Note
I would just like some clarification if you can help! I see you post excerpts from the web novel and say uncensored on them. Does the web novel follow the books with extra info or are they the same? What is the difference between the two?
There is a lot of new content in practically 80% of the novel revised version, right? In the uncensored version there are only the scenes that were actually censored. Some new content in the revised version:
Characters like Lang Ying (the ghost child) and Prince An Le were cut.
Xiao Ying recognizes Xie Lian and calls him "prince" before she dies, so I have a theory that she replaced Lang Ying's role (I haven't finished reading it yet).
Xie Lian chose Lang Qianqiu as a disciple to protect him from Qi Rong, who chased and haunted him when he was a child. As for the Gilded Banquet massacre, Xie Lian knew that it was Qi Rong's work, and at the time, he suppressed him.
Xie Lian cannot enter the Xianle Imperial Mausoleum because the place's enchantment recognizes Xie Lian as the prince who destroyed Xianle.
Xie Lian's feelings towards Hua Cheng are also much more intense, in the Ganbler's Den arc, for example, their interaction is hotter than in the original, with lines like Xie Lian asking Hua Cheng to spend a night with him and Hua Cheng replying that "it would be my first time".
In the Qi Rong arc, Hua Cheng doesn't take Xie Lian straight to his lair, but rather takes him to wander around different cities for days under the pretext that he needed Xie Lian's help with something. It's in this new content that we have Hua Cheng competing for a golden flower and, upon winning, he gives the flower to Xie Lian.
Mu Qing appears to be much more concerned about Xie Lian as well, he's always teaming up with Feng Xin to help and protect him. When Hua Cheng "kidnaps" Xie Lian, for example, in the original the only one who appears together with Shi Qingxuan is Feng Xin, in this version he, together with Mu Qing, ask for Shi Qingxuan's help disguised as Nan Feng and Fu Yao to find he.
Jun Wu's influence is also sharper. For example, his influence on Ling Wen is more apparent than in the original, with her always saying that he's good and fair and that he is "someone who forgives easily", always trying to convince Xie Lian that everything will work out for him cause the final decisions are in Jun Wu's hands.
The censored version cuts kissing scenes and other hot scenes, while the uncensored version has more freedom, although it's still a little censored. In the Mount Tonglu arc, for example, in the uncensored version, Hua Cheng is practically touching Xie Lian's entire body, while Xie Lian cries during the kiss.
The audio drama even adapts this revised version, so if you've seen any scene from the ad, or are following the updates, know that it's the same.
For now this is all I have :)

i feel like i should make a post saying what my blog is about. i mostly use tumblr on mobile (i know), and mostly i just kinda use it casually, lurking around, and saving/rbing stuff that i like. so don’t expect too much organization or original content here. but the stuff i do make myself, i tag with #made by suna.
i’m (currently) into danmei/bl, which this blog is mostly dedicated to. but again i am a disorganized mess so i will probably like and rb other stuff on here too.
if you know any good gl media set in ancient asia, please please please let me know because i am desperate for it but cannot find it anywhere :C
i consume most danmei in chinese since i grew up in china and am a native speaker, so sometimes i may be confused about the english names of places/things/people’s titles in these works. please be gentle ^_^
if you scroll down far enough you can find random stuff i rb’d before i really knew how tumblr worked and before i got into danmei so you can just ignore them :’)
under the cut: what i’ve watched/read, what’s next on my list, and my sloppy tagging system. i might update it whenever, or not. we’ll see c:
here is the list of things i’ve read/watched/am into:
mo dao zu shi / grandmaster of demonic cultivation by mxtx
i’ve watched chen qing ling / the untamed (live action adaptation)
i’ve read the book
i’ve watched the q animation
i’m a few eps into the animated adaptation but i need a subscription to continue so i put it on pause for now
have not listened to the audio dramas
my ships:
lan wangji/wei wuxian, lan xichen/jin guangyao
my no-no ships:
jiang cheng/wei wuxian, jiang cheng/wen qing, wei wuxian/wen qing
ships that i don’t feel too much about either way:
jiang cheng/nie huaisang, 3zun
any of the junior ships (they’re all so cute together, any pair would work well tbh lmao)
tian ya ke / faraway wanderers by priest
i’ve watched shan he ling / word of honor (live action adaptation)
have not watched the shl concert
have not read the book
started a little bit on the prequel book qi ye / lord seventh
my ships:
wen kexing/zhou zishu, ye baiyi/rong changqing, cao weining/gu xiang, jing beiyuan/wuxi (basically all the canon ships)
du pusa/qiao luohan (the two ladies out of the four scorpion assassins)
luo fumeng/liu qianqiao (tragicomic ghost/beauty ghost)
my no-no ships:
ye baiyi/wen kexing (seriously who came up with this? no judgment to people who enjoy it but personally it’s really not for me lmao)
ships that i feel neutral about:
hanwenzhou
tian guan ci fu / heaven official’s blessing by mxtx
i’ve watched season 1 of the animated adaptation
i’m looking forward to the live action adaptation!! (hopefully airing in 2023) i’m not sure what name it’s going by yet
i’ve just started on the book
and a long time ago i’ve watched nirvana in fire / lang ya bang, which is not bl but is still a great period drama. 10/10 recommend
on my list next, in no particular order, are the following:
svsss
2ha
sha po lang
qiang jin jiu
love between fairy and devil (bg, not bl)
kinnporsche (thai, not chinese)
hannibal (also not chinese)
feel free to send recommendations my way!!
i have an awful tagging system, but basically:
#woh -- word of honor/tian ya ke stuff
#wenzhou -- wen kexing/zhou zishu
#woh gifs, #woh fanfic, #woh fanart, #woh fan comic
#mdzs -- mo dao zu shi/chen qing ling stuff
#wangxian -- lan wangji/wei wuxian
#mdzs fanfic, #mdzs fanart, #mdzs fan comic
#tgcf -- tian guan ci fu stuff
#hualian -- hua cheng/xie lian
character tags: #wen kexing, #zhou zishu, #wei wuxian, #lan wangji, etc
my stuff: #made by suna

Note
okay so this is completely random ig but? I just read that the voice actors of the donghua (&audio drama) were actually voicing the characters from the web series? But I'm unsure of what they actually mean by that (because when I looked it up there were two different results I got and now I'm confused if it's now WYB's voice playing LWJ or the voice actor from the donghua/audio drama??) I'm sorry if this is a dumb question
hi there! no worries, it gets tricky when there are three forms of moving media with individual casts. Let's see if I can get some comparison lists up:
Wei Wuxian:
CQL: actor - 肖战 Xiao Zhan / VA: 路知行 Lu Zhixing
MDZS donghua: 张杰/阿杰 Zhang Jie (a-Jie)
MDZS audiodrama: 路知行 Lu Zhixing
Lan Wangji:
CQL: actor - 王一博 Wang Yibo / VA: 边江 Bian Jiang
MDZS donghua: 边江 Bian Jiang

EDIT: for those of you unfamiliar with the practice of dubbing in Chinese media, check out this post!

Catch Up Meme
Rules: answer + tag 9 people you want to get to know better and/or catch up with!
Tagged by @jockvillagersonly 😭💕
Favorite color: pastels, light and dusty pinks, and mint. My aesthetic is so girly. I'm a mixed between kawaii/cottagecore/farmhouse 🤣🌸
Tumblr media
Last song/album: I'm so obsessed with this singer on TikTok named hrishi. You have to go listen to him, ahhh~~~ His song 20somethin (YouTube) is so pretty!!
Also, while I'm linking YouTube music videos, watch this beautiful boy dance and tell me you don't think of Xiao Hua 🌸😍🌸
Last Movie: We had a family movie night last night and watched Boss Baby 2 🤣 It was really cute and ridiculous. I also set up the kitchen like a movie theater lobby and sold my kids popcorn and candy and made them give me coins (that they got from my husband on the other side of the house, lol). It was extra but I am extra so it's fine 🤣
Currently Reading: Qian Qiu and Fox Demon Cultivation Manual. I have a few translated chapters to catch up on but I'm basically at the end?? Chapter 117 I think. I really like it but I'm still waiting to find Yan Wushi a redeemable gong/ML 🤣 He's such an asshole. FDCM is sooooooo cuuuuttteeeee, ahhhh. The ML in this is super sweet and caring and the MC is really adorable. The translations I'm dying for though are Han Shan's Sword Unsheathed. It's my favoriteeee and its only translated up to 34 and I think it got dropped. I'm so saaaaaddddddd 😭😭😭 It has such a cute audio drama too, that goes farther than the novel translations.
Currently watching: L.O.R.D. Critical World. I got distracted by it when it showed up in my recommendations....I'm supposed to be watching Tomb of the Sea!! But I really loved the Movie(s? I think there were two??) It feels like I watched it so long ago but I really liked the main characters (Kris Wu as Yin Chen 😍) so I started watching this series....The fringe on the Qi Ling is so intense lol.
Currently craving: I wish tltr had satisfied my bromance hurt/comfort kink 🤣 You can't have just hurt alone, otherwise its just PAIN, lol. That's all reboot was for me...with copious amounts of PangXie/PangEveryone.
Foodwise, maybe tom kha or curry. 🤤
Coffee or Tea? I love both soooo muuuuuch. 🤣 Prettily prepared tea and coffee and the atmosphere you drink them in. It's like a ritual. I have coffee every morning and then herbal tea with honey at night. Sometimes I'll make milk tea in the afternoons. All my mixing spoons are little flowers. I always have to have my favorite mugs. (I have too many mugs because I'm so obsessed with drinking coffee and tea 🙈)

Thank you for reading!! I tag @jaecomments and @bimiriyas if you guys are up to it!! 💖💕

mdzs rough timeline
this isn’t meant to be definite! I’m mostly posting this so that @thewickling can take a look and see if there’s anything helpful in here while she finishes crafting her frankly incredibly referenced timeline. or so we can debate finer points lmao, though she definitely has the upper hand on research.
here’s what I have put together, though the dates used are re: Lan Wangji’s age, not in relation to Wei Wuxian’s death. Things I’m unsure about are marked with (?), and there are a lot of events that could take place in a range of dates that I’ve kind of just stuck in there for the sake of having them marked. I haven’t cross-referenced this in a while, and it’s working largely off of memory ;;; I just edited a bunch of this on the fly in the text editor HAHA so this may be off in several ways. I may eventually edit this into something more cohesive, but for now. have this mess.
Notes:
Mass Graves” = Yiling Burial Mound Jinlin Tai = Koi/Carp Tower I’m using both novel and audio drama as canon, plus some assorted bits of memory re: mxtx interviews
Approximate Timeline (using Lan Wangji’s age, starting with lectures at Gusu):
Year 15:
Lectures at Cloud Recesses
Year 16:
Wei Wuxian harasses the Poetry Florist lady (?)

Wen Ning meets Wei Wuxian at Qishan (?)
Meng Shi dies (?)
Meng Yao is kicked down the stairs of Jinlin Tai (?)
Year 17:
Burning of the Cloud Recesses
Lan Xichen flees and takes shelter with Meng Yao (currently working as a bookkeeper)
Indoctrination at Qishan (unclear amount of time: few days to a month?)
Xuanwu Cave (approx. 1 week)
Qingheng-jun dies and Lan Xichen becomes sect leader of Gusu
Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng return to Lotus Pier (unclear amount of time passes: few days to a month)
Massacre at Lotus Pier
Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng flee to Yiling with Wen Ning’s help
Golden Core transfer
Wei Wuxian is thrown into the Mass Graves for three months
Sunshot Campaign starts in earnest
Meng Yao is appointed Nie Mingjue’s new aide
Wen Xu is killed by Nie Mingjue
Wei Wuxian emerges from the Mass Graves and begins hunting Wen Chao
Wei Wuxian kills Wang Lingjiao
Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng kill Wen Chao and Wen Zhuliu
Lan Xichen speaks to Meng Yao regarding his ambition
Meng Yao sets off to meet up with his father’s sect in Langya
Nie Mingjue visits Jin Guangshan and asks after him only to discover JGS has not seen Meng Yao
Nie Mingjue discovers Meng Yao killing Lanling cultivators—Meng Yao flees
Year 19?:
Sunshot Campaign finally arrives at Qishan: Meng Yao assassinates Wen Ruohan
Meng Yao is recognized as Jin Guangshan’s son and given the courtesy name Jin Guangyao
3zun swear blood brotherhood
Year 20:
Nighthunt at Phoenix Mountain (in the audio drama, S3E01, Wei Wuxian mentions that he is 20+ years old at this point)
Lan Wangji goes to Yunmeng and meets Wei Wuxian (flower throwing episode)
Opinions about Wei Wuxian begin truly shifting now that Sunshot is largely over
Four Sects continue hunting down the Wen remnants
Wei Wuxian runs into Wen Qing who begs for his help saving Wen Ning
Confrontation with Jin Zixun at Jinlin Tai
Qiongqi Dao 1.0: Wei Wuxian flees with the Wen Remnants to the Mass Graves
Mianmian leaves Lanling Jin sect in defense of Wei Wuxian
Jiang Cheng goes to the Mass Graves and confronts Wei Wuxian: they set a duel and declare him exiled
After some months, Lan Wangji arrives in Yiling and brings news of Jiang Yanli’s upcoming wedding
Wen Ning regains consciousness
Wei Wuxian has a first family meal with the Wen remnants
Jiang Yanli and Jiang Cheng visit; Wei Wuxian names his future nephew
Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan are married
Year 21:
Jin Ling is born
Wei Wuxian is invited to his one month ceremony and begins working on his present
Qiongqi Dao 2.0: Jin Zixun and Jin Zixuan are killed
Three days later, Wen Qing and Wen Ning turn themselves in to protect Wei Wuxian and the rest
Lan Wangji speaks in defense of Wen Ning and Wen Qing
Wen Ning loses control and begins killing people at Lanling
Wen Qing is executed; Wen Ning is imprisoned
Wei Wuxian rushes to Lanling to try and retrieve their remains and hears about the plans to besiege the Mass Graves
Wei Wuxian goes to Qishan directly and confronts the sects for their hypocrisy
Wei Wuxian loses control and Jiang Yanli is killed

Lan Wangji takes Wei Wuxian back to the Mass Graves
Lan Wangji returns to Gusu and is punished with 33 blows from the discipline whip and bedridden
First Siege of the Mass Graves: Wei Wuxian is killed by demonic backlash; the Wen remnants are massacred and thrown into the Blood Well (except A’Yuan, who hides in a tree)
Lan Wangji drags himself to Yiling to search for Wei Wuxian, finds only A’Yuan, whom he brings back to Gusu and gives the name Sizhui
Year 22:
Jin Guangyao marries Qin Su (?)
*Xue Yang massacres the Yueyang Chang clan
Xiao Xingchen takes him into custody
Jin Guangshan insists on keeping Xue Yang
Mo Xuanyu is invited to study at Lanling
Jin Guangyao begins playing guqin for Nie Mingjue
Xue Yang massacres Baixue Ge and blinds Song Lan
Xiao Xingchen takes Song Lan to Baoshan Sanren and gives him his eyes
Xiao Xingchen disappears
Xiao Xingchen meets A’Qing
Xiao Xingchen and A’Qing take in Xue Yang and begin living in Yi City
Nie Mingjue qi deviates
Jin Rusong is born
*Yueyang Chang massacre is stated to take place 10 years prior to the present, which would put it at year 24, but Jin Guangshan must be alive for at least a time afterwards—Jin Guangshan’s death is stated to take place 11 years prior to the present, which puts it at year 23. I’m prioritizing JGS’s death, because Lan Wangji describes the tragedy of Xiao Xingchen as taking place 1-2 years after Wei Wuxian’s death (being bedridden, he cannot pursue the issue), thus it makes sense that YYC massacre takes place earlier than stated.
Year 23:
Jin Guangshan is killed
Mo Xuanyu banished from Lanling (?)
Year 25:
Song Lan comes to Yi City and is killed
Xiao Xingchen commits suicide
A’Qing is killed by Xue Yang
Year 26(?):
Jin Rusong is killed
Year 34 (Present Day):

Events at Mo Village
Dafan Shan; run into Jin Ling and Jiang Cheng; Wen Ning appears
Lan Wangji takes Wei Wuxian back to the Cloud Recesses
Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji set off on their quest to find all the body parts
Jin Ling at the Nie clan’s saber hall
Nie Huaisang shares information

Lan Xichen tells Wei Wuxian the story of their parents
Jin Guangyao tells Lan Xichen that Wei Wuxian has kidnapped children in Yiling
Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji go to Yiling to rescue the kids; meet Wen Ning along the way
The adults arrive afterwards and Su She’s plot is revealed
Wei Wuxian makes himself into bait, the Wen remnants rise from the Blood Well and save him and the kids

Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji have a confrontation with Jiang Cheng; Wen Ning reveals the Golden Core situation
Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji and Wen Ning travel to Yunping

Approximate relative ages at the start of the story, as I understand them: Wei Wuxian: 15 Lan Wangji: 15 Jiang Cheng: 15 Nie Huaisang: 15 Jin Zixuan: 15/16 (I like to think 16) Jiang Yanli: 17/18 Lan Xichen: 18 (at most) Nie Mingjue: 19/20 Wen Ning: 13/14

February Progress Update, March Goals:
(Updated as it’s now the end of the month) How February went:
Chinese novel chapters read in February (so far): 27 (a huge amount! Last month’s was 8. This month - 4 were Guardian, the rest are 寒舍)
Chapters I studied with Listening-Reading Method: 2 (Catch me barely doing L-R and just reading Guardian instead...)
Chinese shows watched: 6. (I expected this number to shoot up and I was right! Word of Honor - tian ya ke adaptation - is airing and I am watching the raws first then the English subs as they release. I’m also maybe going to start Anti Fraud League since I finally finished ep 1. YouTube recommended me another Zhen zhehan drama - he plays Zhou Zishu in woh. It’s called Demon Girl and I’d had it in my list to practice anyway with when I got bored since it’s set 1920-1940s, one of my fave drama settings, featuring a demon heroine in which demons are like mutants who live among us. Which happens to be my LITERAL favorite story setup - mutants/monsters/etc sci fi or supernatural setup in which the story uses it to tell fantastical tales while also commenting on real social issues. Some stories do it better than others - In The Flesh and Bureau of Transformer do excellently, Love and Redemption and Guardian do some fascinating stuff with it, Heroes touches on it only a little compared to Xmen which is known for it, and Merlin often failed to commit to a strong message. But regardless - if a story has this Setup I will ultimately wanna see. So that show definirely has 3 selling points now: my Fave story setup, a heroine as the lead, and an actor I like as the other lead. I also found Mystic Nine and LORD Critical World in HD on a chinese site so I’m very tempted to just watch them in chinese only since it’s more convienient then the english sub links I have for the shows. An interesting update: trying to watch a show this month was easier than in the past - last month I could barely watch Any shows, and before that I distinctly remember shows being harder to catch the details. I watched Anti Fraud League ep 1 fully this month and caught all details roughly without pausing - and like 3 sentences of exposition on main character Mi Huo I paused and replayed the scene just to catch all the chinese subtitles and clarify I understood correctly. I think I got about 90% of the details - because I was a little vague on some word meanings and just guessed on those. And grasped 100% of the overall plot. which is well beyond where I was at month 10-11ish last time I tried watching shows. Also yay! A detective show felt as easy as watching a fluff romance which is so great, because I like this genre much more! Although I am going to give a grateful shout out to Granting You A Dreamlike Life because... while the shows first 15 eps I did watch are Not My Thing, I watched it like 8+ months into learning and it was both a challenge and easy enough TO watch and keep watching. Which made it great for improving. I really think it helped a lot. And I also think... at this point I probably could rewatch guardian without eng subs and be fine. When I watch shan he ling today I guess I’ll find out if I can handle a wuxia plot though without eng subs lol)
Japanese Audio listened to: 14 (no change, this is since start of year)
Personal books read: 11 (since 2021 started - so 6 books in February. I have been reading SO MUCH lately, I’m really excited? I’ve been meaning to read so many of my books I just hadn’t gotten around to it. This is also likely to increase as I’m about to finish dmbj 2 next time I pick it up).
Some other things:
@a-whump-muffin u inspired me and sometime soon I will be trying to play KH in japanese again, and looking at ur super amazing grammar guide u made ToT (I might try nier automata if its bearable just because I’m playing all the drakengard/nier games right now but... the language is a lot more sci fi so i’m not sure that’d go well... also i want to check if my final fantasy type-0 has japanese language settings...). But like... I am definitely up for looking at a grammar guide, and looking up words on my phone as I play. Now that’s a study method i could DO maybe ToT and also like!!! ultimately i want to do it anyway!!! i just figured it would be drowning and chickened out! but like. to study doing what u wanted to do anyway in the language??!!! wowwww ;-; i mean that’s basically why i’m reading chinese but u get the idea
Other japanese updates: I’m still listening to quickleur I just haven’t done any listening lately (u can tell by the L-R status above lol). It did help a lot though even the bits I listened to, as far as refreshing my mind on particles and verb endings. And the explanation on sentence structures u gave @a-whump-muffin !! (who is god tier if ur studying japanese they are <3 <3 )
Part of the ‘personal books read’ goal - I’m counting any textbooks I read in that category, in the hopes if I frame it in my head as reading for personal interest instead of studying, I will do it. Ideally I would LIKE to read my DeFrancis Chinese books, Chinese Nature Method grammar book, Chinese Sentence Patterns book, 2 books I just ordered, my japanese reading books (the 1st one a good refresher the 2nd one literally could be... my textbook for years its got so much). Those chinese books in part because WOW I am so used to so much grammar in context when reading, but when I go to produce language I’m a hot MESS. And I think just like... I really should read those books and fill in the gaps in my understanding and like solidify the correct understanding of what I can comprehend. Sometime.... I ALSO should read my Alan Hoenig chinese characters book. But will I???? AHA. I forgot to mention in my last reading post - but brute forcing learning the hanzi has been going fine actually. I was concerned just looking up hanzi when reading, that I would struggle to learn the new ones. But I can confirm that reading has gotten easier, and I’ve picked up a LOT of hanzi I was previously brute force looking up repeatedly while reading. So like... as long as this keeps working, I’ll keep doing it. I’m very lazy and the path with least resistance and mental exhaustion is what I’ll keep doing, if it works, even if it might be slower. (Although I do think the hanzi books I have are very useful and have helped me speed up progress when I used them).
I learned how to make gifs this month and I’m overwhelmed with all the stuff I could try to do? Idk its very cool i’m very excited about it.
Goals for March:
Basically, we’re sticking to the quite steady study plan I’ve had the past few months, which has boiled down to: read chinese, L-R, listen/watch if desired, do something listening related in japanese if desired. It’s not well rounded or anything but I’m making steady progress and its easy to keep doing.
Anything in bold is what I’m doing right now/likely to do (although we know how often I just derail).
Read chinese novels. (This can include Guardian. Currently includes: hanshe, guardian. On hiatus: Tian Ya Ke).
Listen-Read Guardian. (Reading guardian in Any way is the priority so if this happens yay, but if it doesn’t I’ll be happy if I’m still working through guardian and just postponing the listening part).
Optional. Play video game in japanese, use a dictionary and grammar guide when confused af. This one’s imminently likely just because the instant I get Nier remastered I’m playing it, and also playing Nier Automata etc games, so like... the opportunity and desire to play the japanese versions of games I want to do that with WILL hit me.
Optional. Watch chinese shows. This one’s also likely because a priest novel drama adaptation just dropped (Word of Honor, shan he ling, tian ya ke/Faraway Wanderer’s adaptation) and I don’t want to wait for the english subs.
Optional - unlikely (I’m not in the mood to listen to stuff lol). Audios. Keep listening to Japanese Quicksleur when there’s down time (like playing games), and Chinese Spoonfed audio if I feel like it.
Personal. Keep reading while I’ve got the motivation to. I am really enjoying getting through all these books I’ve wanted to read for so long.
BELOW I will eventually link a list of story recs (also see tag rec list for more):
Poyun 破云 (recced)
Poyun 破云 2
一级律师 by 木苏里 (recced)
盗墓笔记 series
默读 by priest
他们的故事 by 一根黄瓜丝儿
寒舍 by 夏灬安兰 pingxie supernatural au
818 (pingxie)
鎮魂 by priest (chapter 4)
天涯客 by priest
Qi Ye 七爷 by priest
六爻 by priest
FGEP
犹记斐然 foxghost rec
一受封疆 foxghost rec
女主大人 我错 gl
将军府小妾生存报告 gl
夜半衣寒 by 夏灬安兰 pingxie (can u tell i like this author)
In progressing difficulty, books I want to read and should be ready to read now, a la foxghost’s recommendations:
那些風花雪月 by Gong Zi Huan Xi (took 14 months of study before I tried to read this, did try, did not click with me lol)
不正當關係 by Gong Zi Huan Xi (foxghost said this was the same difficulty as the story above, so I’m probably ready for this one too).
*SCI 谜案集 by ErYa (I’ve heard this somewhat easy to read, is a good story, and since its case-centered I think it would be a good intro to later reading books like Silent Reading by Priest)
龍圖卷集  by ErYa (There is an audiobook on Ximalaya!)
黑風城戰記  by ErYa (sequel to novel above)
Then the recommendation says you should probably watch a lot of shows for some vocab (I sort of do so I’ll see how that helps me out), and you can start tackling xianxia, like Priest’s “六爻, and then 鎮魂, then 殺破狼, and pretty much any other of GZHX’s works.” I would guess this point is when Tian Ya Ke would be more my reading level, when 六爻 is, at the beginning. I would guess after 鎮魂 is when I could try to tackle Can Ci Pin. Sha Po Lang is steampunk and fantasy, so I would guess it has some of the sci fi type words - so if I’d be ready for that, I might be ready for Can Ci Pin at the same time.

Mo Dao Zu Shi Card Game Translation (joke trailer from audio drama)
“Oh I’m cackling there’s a joke video in Season 1 of the audio drama where they made a fake trailer for a card game with all the main characters and it’s ICONIC I love it so much.
Here are my very bad translations, along with the original text for each card. If someone has better ideas for how to make these more poetic, or more accurate to a game (I don’t have much experience with video game terminology), go ahead and fix my mistakes.

This is a fake game by the way, the trailer was made as a joke and is in the extras for Season 1 of the audio drama. I greatly appreciate that they made this though.

I think resentful energy as a force for corruption is meant to be a biased assumption on the part of people who hold too tightly to tradition - everything about wwx's mental and physical state can be explained easily by trauma and lack of golden core, and he had v dark moments post-LP massacre and pre-burial mounds too, eg when he contemplated killing Wen Ning to be on the safe side. That said, I also think this is more clear in the book (not sure about the audio drama) and cql has scenes 1/?

(a follow-up to this ask, and also vaguely related to this one on cultivation worldbuilding)
whew, okay, got a lot of asks about CQL worldbuilding that I’m going to attempt writing a response to but might totally fail, because 1) CQL worldbuilding makes my Brandon Sanderson-loving heart cry actual tears of blood, 2) I’ve only watched CQL and listened through the audiodrama once each so I’m definitely forgetting details and moments, and 3) worldbuilding questions can only be definitively answered by the original author of the text, rip.
on cultivation + immortality:
so the assumption that cultivators are working to gain some kind of immortality is pulled from reading the practices and goal of spiritual Daoism into the cultivation of CQL (you should also check out this post, which is an incredible resource on Daoist influences in CQL). I don’t know if the show itself ever explains why people cultivate; they just kinda do, y’know. They’re born into it. And this is also a world that regularly deals with vengeful dead, so to a certain extent, it’s a valuable societal occupation.
the show leaves it pretty vague as to how resurrection affected Wei Wuxian’s golden core; in the book, I believe, the author confirmed that Wei Wuxian eventually succeeded in forming a new golden core with Mo Xuanyu’s body, so that opens the possibility of wangxian both becoming immortal cultivators together. The show changes these aspects of the novel by questioning whether or not Wei Wuxian was ‘truly dead’ for those sixteen years (see: Wei Wuxian’s line about not knowing where he was, the lack of a confirmed dead corpse, the ineffectiveness of Lan Wangji’s Inquiry), and also bringing him back in the same(ish) body (the qualification is for the extremely upsetting realization that @cangse-sanren smacked me over the head with, which is Wei Wuxian’s post-resurrection body doesn’t appear to have the same scars as his pre-resurrection body does -- check out the scene where he’s scandalously/scantily-clad post-Jin Ling stabbery).
Basically, there’s enough ambiguity in the show that you could make an argument for Wei Wuxian successfully forming a new golden core after the end -- enough of his physical body changes visibly onscreen that you could make an argument for his capacity for spiritual cultivation to return. Likewise, his usage of Suibian in the confrontation at Jinling Tower can be read both ways: on one hand, he can use his spiritual peijian without a golden core (Wen Ning says as much in episode 46 -- he just can’t wield it effectively for very long). On the other hand, Wei Wuxian unsheathing Suibian for the first time since the Burial Mounds might suggest that he now has the ability to wield a spiritual pejian once more.
Again! Super ambiguous! Could go either way!
how tf does cultivation actually work?
ya got me there; I’ve got not clue.
My working understanding of cultivation is that you perform various cultivation-related tasks -- meditation, training, etc etc -- to boost your spiritual energy reserves, which can be used for various tasks including but not limited to 1) talisman usage, 2) sword surfing, 3) various spells, 4) magic music. At some point a golden core is formed, which rapidly accelerates your power gain. Presumably, this process could truck along indefinitely, except for the risk of qi deviation (explored in this post). As far as I can gather, the more power you have, the more controlled you have to be of your mental/spiritual/emotional state because a large disruption could cause you to slide sideways into qi deviation.
how resentful energy/demonic cultivation factors into this:
so anon makes a compelling point in their essay up there that Wei Wuxian’s instability post-Sunshot pre-Nightless City could be caused by the immense trauma he goes through rather than his cultivation with resentful energy. This is true! We don’t know how much of Wei Wuxian’s downward spiral can be attributed to either factor! I doubt Wei Wuxian himself knows!
I’m still inclined to believe that resentful energy possesses an inherently higher risk of corruption, because like the anon mentioned in the original discussion on demonic cultivation, it’s like working with radiation, or other dangerous substances. The odds of spiritual energy pushing you over an emotional/mental/spiritual cliff into qi deviation are much, much lower than the odds of resentful energy pushing you over the same cliff. I’m pretty sure Lan Yi says in her infodump that Xue Chonghai was actually an illustrious cultivator, powerful and disciplined and famous and respected, who went dark when he started experimenting/exploring the possibilities of demonic cultivation with the yin iron.
Could Xue Chonghai have been a power-crazed megalomaniac with superb acting skills from day one? Sure. Might he have underlying trauma that caused his mental instability? Absolutely -- we see him for approximately twenty seconds, go wild with headcanons. But just like the way journalists who report from warfronts often get slammed with powerful depression from seeing so much death and destruction around them all day, I think resentful energy cultivation also does the same to a person. Is corruption inevitable? Well, no -- but it’s overwhelmingly likely.
I think anon is absolutely right in that resentful energy is not inherently a force for evil -- it’s just another force in the world, as Wei Wuxian says in episode 4, that can be used. It’s a riskier, more dangerous force to work with than your run of the mill spiritual energy, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t work with it -- just that you need to be careful, and follow your ahistorical fantasy China OSHA guidelines about it.
