some process photos of me blending my all natural lemon room and linen spray! there is lavender in there too to add a bit of softness to the bright citrus mist. after this tincture has infused for at least 4 weeks it will be ready to bottle 💛💜

i also chose lavender to blend with lemon because they’re both immunity allies, with a penchant for perking people up when they’re feeling blue

this was so much fun to make, and so calming. yesterday i crafted *so* many new medicines and creations for Bloom Again. i prayed over the medicines throughout the whole day and told them how i love them✨ i thanked each of them for the joy of collaborating with their essences to craft blends that can help people 💓

herbal medicines have been a deep part of how i take care of myself for a while now. but there was quite a while when i was studying herbalism where i *knew* what medicines would be so helpful - but i couldn’t afford them. and that taught me why they are so important, what it’s like to need what you don’t have. one of my main missions within Bloom Again is to help that person - whoever they are and however divine need may express itself

it’s the anxiety tinctures that soften my frayed edges and keep me rooted firmly in myself. it’s the hydrosols that center me with fragrant beauty while i take care of my skin. it’s the spoonfuls of lavender honey in my tea. the hawthorn tincture that holds me when i Grieve and feel alone. it’s the herbal ghee that calms me down so i can sleep in true peace.

and sharing these things with others is what brings my heart to life ❤️‍🔥

More handspun linen blanket work. Feels super nice, even though theres lots of, idk what it would be called but bits of undesirable vm that ought to have been threshed out. When im finished ill give it multiple good beatings and thrashings that should soften it up, and then im hoping to dye it with some oregon grapes.

I actually have a whole ton of dyestuff ive been collecting in the freezer that i need to turn into dye, bc im moving very soon and i dont want to be bringing bags of frozen berries and pits and peels with me.

Also gonna go harvest this in a minute--its a horrifically overgrown patch of oregano, and i read a few days ago that you can get a dark, almost black dye out of the dried stems. And i dont even like oregano as a spice, so... just gonna get the stems.

Yeah I looked on your website it’s made by the lyocell process, which means-

-wait for it-

It’s fucking rayon!!

Listen. There is a list of actual plant fibers that are directly made into fabric: cotton, linen, ramie, some hemp. I’m sure I’m missing a couple.

But if you’re wondering “huh how did they turn that plant material into fabric,” 99% of the time? It’s RAYON.

All rayon is made by putting plant material in chemical soup, dissolving out everything but the cellulose, and turning the cellulose into filaments/fibers.

The source of the cellulose has zero effect on the eventual fabric.

Rayon made from bamboo or eucalyptus or seaweed is not any better than rayon from any other sources.

Don’t let companies mislead you!

Buying vintage/used or making your own (!) garments from natural materials will last way longer.

And it's not just about eco friendliness, but natural fibers are better at what the synthetic fibers attempt to do.

Ex: wool. Synthetic wool / acrylic fabrics won't do as good a job as real wool in keeping you warm. Also, of course, the plastic isn't breathable so you sweat. A big problem with polyester in general. People wonder how old timey folks didn't die in long sleeves/dresses and the answer is they were not wearing plastic garments, but light breathable fabrics like cotton.

So yes. We love natural materials that humans have learned through the centuries to purpose into useful garments that aid in keeping warm/cool and, despite the claims of corporations, cannot be perfectly imitated by synthetic plastic fibers.

But also, yes, let's get more regulations in place to keep plastic and harmful chemicals OUT of the entire process of manufacturing products made of natural materials.

i love fur, i love leather, i love wool, i love long lasting materials without plastic in them that will decompose and go back into the ecosystem after serving me well for several decades.
