rodya does have a need to feel special. i do think this is core to her character. but sonya insisting that thats the only reason she cared to kill the pawnbroker is just very clearly an attempt to make her feel worse about the situation and prove that her way is wrong while his is correct. he insists thats the only reason she did it. she agrees because she is so full of self hatred shes just waiting for someone to say something, and its her childhood best friend, he must be right. of course she cared about her village. of course this was for them too.
