on the topic of thoroughbreds 2017 - the thing for me is when my depression is at it's worst i often feel that i don't have feelings at all. especially in my teen years i saw myself as a horrible monster who had to, in amanda's words, "work a little harder to be good." when i watch thoroughbreds i see so much of my teenage self in amanda. i also grew up in a suffocating suburb where the paths presented to me were very limited and i did feel as though there was nothing i wanted in life just because i didn't want any of the options shown to me. i felt so lost and hopeless and alienated from my peers despite having it "good" that i concluded i must be the problem and i must be a uniquely evil and maladjusted person to not be happy with my life. and this is a conclusion other people in my life were all too willing to agree with. i think the amount of viewers who take amanda's assertions about her lack of feelings and evil nature at face value is very indicative of the way society misunderstands and mistreats teenage girls. lily is a whole other can of worms but all this to say i find it hard to read reviews that are just like "amanda is a sociopath and lily is a psychopath, this movie is about how teenage girls are sooo crazy."
