The first mission the Court send their newly minted Talon on is an assassination attempt on the ward of one Bruce Wayne… Dick Grayson.

Calvin— can’t kill Dick. He can’t.

He didn’t know it would be the boy he grew up in the circus with they want him to murder in cold blood. He didn’t know— didn’t recognize him until the knife was already at his throat.

But he remembers now. And he won’t do it. Never. Never.

He’ll run. Disappear. Dick doesn’t know who he is, it’s better that way, and if he’s lucky the Court will be too busy hunting him to care about the failed assassination.

Unfortunately for Calvin, Dick does remember; Recognizes the Talon.

And he’s not inclined to let his childhood best friend slip through his fingers again after years of believing him dead.

been thinking about deviantart lately and i cant help but remember during the later years of the site's popularity where people would go out of their way to find what was (in retrospect, very clearly) art made by literal children and shit on it and cyberbully the kid about it. what the fuck was that. even shit that was like, well made was subject to overly critical bullshit about being unrealistic or a mary sue or whatever. its frankly bizarre to me as an adult that anyone ever tolerated this culture or even like, participated in it and -wasn't- a child themselves. or even saw it and didnt feel the need to say "hey what youre doing is really fucking stupid and pathetic"

when did the tumblr culture around asks change so much? ive been thinking about it alot recently and its something i already do think about time to time, like... what happened? they used to be such a huge part of the community and suddenly fell off.

i think in 2024 maybe we should work to bring back the larger ask culture. start more random conversations with others, create and share more ask games, maybe say something nice to the people you follow, drop off a silly meme or just pop in and say hi!

Okay I’ve been stuck on trying to make baby blankets for a while now and can’t get myself to just focus on the darn things, so time for a side quest! I had a layer cake of this precut fabric and I’m making two baby quilts from it

Well, I’m definitely making this one, and after this one I’ll see if I’m able to focus on baby blankets again or if my brain still has that invisible wall up between me and the task? So it might only be one of these baby quilts for now

I also don’t know if I have adhd for sure I’ve never been tested #but like. every single member of my family who has been tested for adhd has it #and a lot of the advice for doing things when you have adhd help me a lot so idk if it matters if I have it or not?#like. if the advice helps then it helps #got sidetracked point is: baby quilt!

One of the slightly frustrating things about the entire Tech situation is that if Tech comes back, “Plan 99” would immediately skyrocket into being one of my top ten favorite episodes. I thought it was an incredible episode when if first aired, and I still think that now, but thinking that is entirely conditional on it being a fakeout—not a death that gets reversed later, but a fakeout specifically. It doesn’t read as a death to me. As a departure and a separation, sure, but not as a death. And if a temporary separation is what it is then, well, I think it’s pretty remarkable as both a fakeout and an episode.

But only if that’s what it is. That I’m none too keen on this particular character dying and his death being treated like that aside, and not to be a broken record, but it doesn’t really work as a main character death. At all. As a main character death it’s staggeringly bad, and bad in a unique way that never gets better or less weird as we move through season three.

So even though I’m basically ride or die on the Tech Lives train at this point, Tech isn’t back yet, so I can’t really like “Plan 99.” But I don’t hate it yet, either. It’s sort of floating off in this nether space until I know one way or another for sure what I think of it. And that’s frustrating because I’d like do be able to do one or the other.

#tangentially tech lives #I would actually like to like this episode so #I’d like it to be deeply moving rather than just depressing AF #reason 20000 tech should come back #and to clarify part of the reason I would end up coming back around to really liking plan 99 if Tech comes back #is because I would see it as coming around to subvert a few tropes #subverting the genuinely harmful bury your disabled tropes #and subverting the expectation that the best thing a clone can do is die for his people #we just went through and entire season where what the batch NEEDED was Tech #not just get shit done but to #you know #heal and be whole #Omega and Hunter are okay but the group ends the series still broken BECAUSE Tech’s not there #so how’s about we let this guy live for his people instead #make him coming back have more impact than ‘dying’ did #(not hard to do since that had little to no narrative impact in the first place)#and make living the most important choice he could make #I would love plan 99 if it turns out it was setting something like that up #right now though it remains in the ‘I dunno’ void

proper reupload in the high quality this fantastic segment so deserves; eagle pig and duck bias notwithstanding, this will forever be my favorite variant of the fabled switcheroo (and a reminder that Daffy was first at his own game!) the committal on behalf of both characters--especially the sincerity of Daffy's feigned sincerity--really sets it apart

#that delivery of “don't you believe i'm a fish?” sounds so hurt and it's perfect #likewise i think there are few one-liners/toppers that make me laugh as much as 'i told ya i was a pig'#and that all knowing glance at the audience from Daffy doesn't feel obnoxiously smarmy or self aware #there's a friendly nonchalance to it. a very clear amusement and not in a way that undermines anything this segment is setting out to achie #again. my favorite buzzword: that sincerity! a sincere investment and amusement in watching Porky obliviously and endearingly make an ass #out of himself #and of course the cross dissolve and setup of the composition implying a story/sequence of events taking place within that time...#this short isn't my favorite P+D short--i still LOVE IT A TON but there are so many i revere--but i think it's one of the most definitive #if someone was looking to get a good understanding on their character dynamic this would be one of my immediate recommendations #i haven't had the bandwidth to spread my pig and duck gospel but please #watch Porky and Daffy cartoons #tangential but i've always loved the sound effect Treg Brown uses for Porky dropping the gun #good exaggeration/whimsy while also connoting Porky's stubbornness and that this stupid petty argument is enough for him to lose sight of #his motives and discard his murder weapon. all because of this joyously stupid argument. so i like the self awareness there with how obtuse #the sound effects are #because anyone who is not Porky Pig would have just shot him point blank #and that is everything i love about their dynamic and how Daffy's intoxicating charisma and ability to get people invested even affects the #very characters on screen #gee d'you think i ought to have said more about this scene #lt #duck soup to nuts #freleng #vid
