Being upset is so valid, I know it’s just a show but WHATEVER, you should allow yourself to feel what you feel! And you should also be allowed to have opinions and share them on your blog lmao I’ll be honest, I have several friends irl who watch 911 and ship buddie and we aallll cannot stand this show anymore lmao and it’s very liberating to be able to speak your mind. Sadly fandom, especially Tumblr for some reason, seems to be hellbent on making passive aggressive comments on people who don’t like what they like? I totally agree with you, if people enjoy it good for them, I’m not gonna make posts about how you have to be stupid to like it cause I don’t think that’s the case?? We are just looking for different things in a show and that’s okay! Hey, thanks Nonnie! I think for a lot of people (I'm for sure one of them, yay neurodivergency), when you find something that's a source of serotonin, it can be QUITE the crash when it stops, and no matter how low your expectations, if you struggle with emotional regulation, the rollercoaster can be rough. Curating your experience is a MUST, and knowing how to manage when your brain tries to get the best of you is also a must! Sometimes that means commiserating with others who are also unhappy (NOT going into the inboxes of people who clearly disagree with you. stop that), sometimes it means logging off and doing something else, sometimes it means reading or writing fic or making content that makes you happy about the thing, sometimes it means not looking at ANYTHING about the thing. At the end of the day, we're all just trying to do what works for us.

As a survivor of RNM, I thought I could handle this but I think RNM got SO bad SO fast that it was always a lot of "here are 3 good things that people will make AMAZING fics/metas/content about and 85 things you will need to ignore or you will start seething with rage". Where as 911 was so consistent for so long that watching it struggle so hard (across the board, not just with Buddie, though that seems to get the brunt of it on the "nearly unwatchable" scale whereas other stuff is more "meh. they could have done this better") has been really rough because there is already so much love for the show built up and we have SEEN what it can be when it's at it's very best. And disliking certain arcs or story choices doesn't necessarily mean throwing the whole show out! There are LOTS of things I love about this show, and I'm not at the point for me where I'm ready to let the show go and I've never really understood the "don't like, don't watch" attitude every time anyone brings up a single complaint. It seems very "you HAVE to love every single thing and choice or you can't watch the show" when most people have things they both like and dislike about pretty much everything! It's okay to not like every single choice! (though if you legit find nothing to enjoy about a thing then it's maybe not for you and that's okay!)

It's a show??" but hey! Sometimes our brains do whatever TF they want and we just gotta manage as best we can. At on the bright side, tumblr has filters! You can block tags! You can block content within posts! this will let you remove certain stuff from your experience without necessarily having to unfollow people. BUT! You can also unfollow people! You can block people! Make your experience what you want! And learn what works FOR YOU to manage your disappointment. Some people are "gotta get the anger out to let it go" people, and some are "gotta find the positive spin" people and some are both or neither. Find what works. Do that. Don't be dicks in people's inboxes, and don't drag the cast/crew into the drama on public sm platforms, they don't plan out the storylines.

YES, people don't understand or utilize this enough! They think anything they see, they just have to comment on. But unless someone is holding them at gunpoint, they can simply block and scroll away. Then commenting on things shows they think the internet is meant to be specifically constructed solely for their own interests.

YES! Credit should be shared, and links should be freely given. I understand that, maybe at first, they do it to gauge interest for the fic/art and then post the link after. But gatekeeping that stuff is not cool, I'm glad there are people who go looking for these things regardless so they will eventually be found and shared by the right people...but it's still not good fandom etiquette.

This needs to be common sense, just PLEASE look at the tags/filters before reading! It's understandable that some authors may not do this correctly, but it doesn't mean y'all should ignore the tags already given and then complain when you were CLEARLY warned!

I'm 50/50 on this. Some people may want to read fics that are not their usual taste, but if they have certain triggers they should filter them out. And writers should ALWAYS properly tag their fics.

I understand this point, and it's why I write mainly on Quotev for my fics. On that site, I can write drafts all I want and it won't show up on my list until I actually start posting things. I wish sites did this more, because it is super helpful.

Ugh, I hate seeing the spams of 'update plz' and how toxic people can be with it. I remember when Reitanna Seishin had 'finished' Muffins, but people kept on spamming her to write more and she eventually did...then people complained about it. And I've seen this with a lot of SU AU comics, a few good ones were eventually just dropped because people couldn't stop themselves from harassing the artists for the next 'update'. It causes authors/artists to just quit what they're doing, because people feel entitled to their time and work.

I half agree with this. If an author says to not rate, then I understand that (I will respect their request because I know getting rated is a sensitive thing for some). But if it's posted on the internet, someone is going to 'rate' or 'review' it regardless.

This is why fanfic is so sacred, it's in a gray area because we are using already existing (copyrighted) characters for our own writing and not getting a penny for it. Those who fic bind and sell them are absolute trash, they don't care if the entirely of fandom (which is 90% fanfic/art) gets taken down over this.

I agree, but here is my point on it. I use AI Chat Bots to help give me ideas, I don't just copy and paste the text it gives me and say it's my own writing. It's the same as using bases or references in art, or like reading a book and getting a base idea for what you want to write from that. Anyone who just uses copy/paste for fanfic is not a writer, they are using the guise of being an 'author' to be part of a community they want to infiltrate.

I agree. As I am personally ok with any (legal) ships, I have no issue seeing ships I may not initially like or think about. So it baffles me that so many just get so pissy about seeing ships they dislike getting any form of attention.

YES! Authors/artists are people, they are NOT their content. I understand that internet celebs are becoming more prominent in recent years, but this isn't Hollywood. A lot of the creators we follow are just like us, they just so happened to make something that a lot of people enjoy.

It really does feel like fandom is being invaded, and not in a good way. There is specific rules we all follow in fandom culture, but these new people coming in think they can do whatever they want and cause trouble for everyone else. They may be the loud minority, but it's causing everyone else to see us as 'bad'.

fanfic/fandom ettiquite guide

Okay, I've seen some things recently that make me think there is some need to make a master post of some general fandom and fic ettiquite just because some people may not know and I think there's a huge wave of fanfic becoming more mainstream especially on apps like tiktok.

If you don't like it, don't engage with it!! I think this above all, is the golden rule of fandom. The internet is made for you to be able to mute, hide, and censor things you don't like. DO THAT! don't make a career off of hating things. This goes along with the three laws of fandom, which u should check out FIRST OF ALL.

DON'T GATEKEEP!! If you're posting about a fic, art, ANYTHING link it, credit it! Don't post a tiktok about a fic and then refuse to give the name. Not only are you failing to credit the creators of this content, but you're taking away from the fact that fandom is a COMMUNITY where content is meant for everyone.

Ao3 is an archive. You're going to see things you might not like or even find offensive or uncomfortable. But fanfic is not meant to be censored. Ao3 is made to be unfiltered, people can post anything and everything. Posting fics on other sites simply to shame their content not only brings MORE attention to it, but it's pointless. If you want a website that is censored go to wattpad. And of course, if you don't like it DON'T READ. You can filter your tags and warnings on ao3 so it won't show you that content.

Along those lines LEARN HOW TO USE AO3. There is no algorithm, it is not tiktok. You don't need to censor words in your tags. Your fics are not magically getting pushed out to people. Make sure you're using "person 1/person 2" for romantic relationships and "person 1 & person 2" for non-romantic relationships. Make sure things like non-con and underage are tagged under the warnings. AND AS A READER, know how to filter ships and tags to find the content you want. You can filter by kudos, certain tags, exclude certain relationships or characters etc. USE IT.

Do not create placeholder fics or other "non fics" on ao3. This is against their terms of service. You can (and probably will) be reported, this annoys people endlessly. We don't want to find a fic and open it to see "I haven't written this yet, sorry!" JUST SAVE A DRAFT OR DO IT IN A DOCUMENT? this seems like way to rack up hits, and it comes across as disingenuous, I don't see a real valid reason to make placeholders.

HOW TO WRITE AN ACCEPTABLE COMMENT: long is not important. A simple "loved this!" will make an author happy. DO NOT say any variation of "update pls?" regardless of how nice you think it is. Authors update when they can.I'm not the only author I've seen unhappy with this. JUST WAIT, either it will be updated or it won't, and either way you will live. If you have nothing nice to say about a fic?? MOVE ON. Don't leave a hate comment.

Do not rate or publicly shit on fanfic! A lot of authors know many people, and the chances of that author seeing whatever you're saying about their work is very high. If you don't like it, click off and read something else. If it's still living rent-free in your mind, that sounds like fan behavior to me. And there is no standard fics are supposed to meet, don't rate them.

Don't cross-post fics. Don't put fics on other sites, don't put translation on other sites. DON'T DO ANYTHING with a fic without checking with the author first. On that note, also don't post fics on GoodReads etc. unless an author explicitly says it's okay.

IF YOU DO NOT MARK YOUR BOOKMARKS AS PRIVATE AUTHORS CAN SEE THEM!! If you're going to say anything that isn't positive, you better mark that as private or better yet, move on. Don't say anything on a public bookmark you wouldn't want the author to read.

YOU CANNOT PROFIT OFF OF FANFIC, don't sell bound fics! Don't bind fics if the intention is to sell them. You're potentially creating a lawsuit for the authors of these fics and putting the existence of fanfic in danger. I've seen multiple authors debating taking fics down because of binding issues, just don't do it. AND IF YOU'RE BUYING BOUND FICS YOU'RE PART OF THE PROBLEM. it's selfish and I wish bad karma upon you.

You wouldn't think I'd have to say this but don't plagiarize or use AI to create fics/art etc. firstly making ai write something IS a form of plagiarism. bUT ALSO just write your own content. If you can't, then writing fics etc. is just not for you. No shame about it!

DON'T ASK AUTHORS TO BETA FOR YOU!! You wouldn't believe how many people have asked me to beta their fics for them, I AM NOT A BETA. I HAVE a beta because my proofreading skills are shit. If someone wants to beta they will offer, or go find a blog or somewhere where people are looking to beta. Like @needabeta You can even make a post asking around for a beta, but don't go bug your favorite authors to proofread your fics.

Really just don't harass authors. Of course, don't be afraid to send nice dms, asks, or comments if their inbox is open, but don't spam them especially if they don't reply. Respect boundaries! Don't send nasty anons, everyone knows this is a sign of jealousy and obsession. You're only succeeding in making yourself look bad. Ask yourself why is this author living rent-free in your mind, hm??

If you don't like a ship, stay away from the content geared towards that ship. There's no reason for you to be in people's inbox harassing them over a ship. It's never that deep. If you truly hate it so much, go consume the content for ships you DO like.

Stay grounded. This goes to both fic authors and readers alike. Hits and popularity are not the mark of a good fic. Getting a lot of hits doesn't mean it's good and NOT getting many doesn't mean it's bad. I'm tired of seeing tiktoks asking "so what's the next big fic?" WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE A "BIG FIC"? go look through the ao3 tag and find something you like to read, it doesn't have to be what everyone else is reading.

Headcanons are not law. People can think whatever they want about the characters. If you disagree with someone's hc, just move on... and just because a headcanon is popular, doesn't mean everyone has to abide by it. Be creative!

Don't treat artists and authors like celebs! We're all in this together! We're all losers who like the same characters and ships. Of course, compliment and be kind to all creators because we put a lot of time and effort into creating fan content for you all, but don't worship anyone. Don't treat them weirdly or make a post like "omg x followed me!" that's a bit weird. If you want to be excited, dm your friends and giggle together, but acting like authors and artists etc. are celebs only creates the room for people to stop seeing them as normal people and start acting rude or entitled. And many people are uncomfortable with it!!

TLDR; stop creating so much negativity in fandom spaces. At least in MY fandom it's just constantly shitting on ships, fics, art. It's hate anons, antis, and constant fighting about every headcanon. I'M TIRED OF IT! Learn to filter out content you don't want to see, and move on with your life instead of spreading more negativity.

I really don't think Vegeta and Bulma was a great ship. It felt like it was out of nowhere and just done to justify the existence of another Super Saiyan in Trunks for the sake of the whole Terminator reference. I think Gohan x Videl is cute but that their relationship in Z was underdeveloped, which also leads me to question why so many seem to dislike the idea of Krillin and 18 for the same reason? Idk. I think it's weird that GoChi gets so much hate because Goku's "always gone training" and Chi-Chi is "always complaining about it" when we see literally the exact same stuff happen with Vegeta and Bulma and no one questions that relationship at all. I think Krillin is very shippable and think it's kind of bizarre that the guy who's the most caring, least self-focused, and most attentive s/o in the entire cast somehow is determined to be the least-deserving of any romance, even his canon one. I feel like people in the fandom really try to erase Goku and Krillin's bond, between the weird push to declare Vegeta as Goku's "real best friend" and also the weird claims I've seen lately that Vegeta's death on Namek and more recently Meerus' death in the Super manga motivated Goku more than Krillin's death did, to say nothing of seeing people think Krillin has zero skill as a fighter and no real value as a fighter (which has a very, very weird similarity to what the guys who used to abuse him at Orin used to say.) I think that Tien is asexual. Like, canonically, I think he's asexual. I think shipping Piccolo is a bit weird but mostly harmless so long as it's not the weird "cheating" context some like to use. I think we need a Krillin slice-of-life comedy spinoff.

This is a lot to unpack but legit legit I agree with most of it—

Vegebul was pretty random I agree. We saw none of the actual development. I think the fact that Toriyama had initially planned for vegeta to stay dead on namek (or so I’ve heard) might actually play into that. There are only two saiyans of age and so vegeta was really the only one that made sense to have bulma’s bb daddy be … I guess. Like I understand the logic but I agree that it was pretty random. At first it was less of a ship too and mostly like baby daddy vegeta and rich irresponsible mom bulma and they don’t interact ????? In my opinion …. Bulma is kinda a character I’m shocked doesn’t get shipped more randomly since she is the one who canonically is kinda comedically thirsty over hot guys she sees (like zarbon or uhhhh the blue guy from red ribbon army) love that about her though

Hanvi is cosmetically very cute but I won’t lie, I didn’t ship it ever like at all. As a kid I didn’t like Videl and as an adult I didn’t really have any feelings towards her. Gohan is like. I grew up next to him he is my brother.. so I want the best for him … so I don’t know I was always miffed about it but then pan in the new movie finally turned me around I like pan ….. so basically I don’t ship it but I would feel bad to erase son pan from existence in an AU (which I would do anyways sorry)

Uhh gochi haters are *weird* like Fr. I don’t get the hate ??? Like I understand thinking it’s mid and not caring for it or thinking they fit with other people more but other than that there is literally nothing to hate unless you’re jealous ??? Like jealously wish goku was with someone you self-insert better into or something. Because 1. Chichi and goku are both hot ??? 2. They clearly love each other and their temperaments fit each other and they’re both into it. … 3. Everyone complaining probably got into the series years AFTER it was already canon and gohan was born so like it’s all they know why are they so upset ? Makes no sense. The match with vegebul I feel though I can agree that the situations are different especially financially.

Uhm honestly personally I only ship krillin with 18 because they are so obviously perfect and love each other but. I agree so much … krillin is literally the perfect guy and everyone passes over him for what ???? He’s ideal man and everyone acting like he don’t exist .. logically I know it’s because he’s kinda normal in a world of really strong personalities but like. Wtf y’all he’s the perfect character and person and everything in every way.

Having seen my blog and how much I talk about krillin and goku being besties (or at least reblog and talk in tags) I’m sure you can guess my stance on this but. I am SO SICK AND TIRED OF PEOPLE SAYING VEGETA IS GOKU’S BEST FRIEND. KRILLIN IS THE BEST FRIEND ALWAYS HAS BEEN AND ALWAYS WILL BE. Y’all okay I’ve never seen people say vegeta’s death in namek meant more to goku than krillin’s but like Fr that’s the most incorrect cold turkey take I’ve ever heard of in my whole life Fr. Like ??? Goku was just kinda lookin at him and then buried him with hardly any real remorse. Like obviously he was effected but it was mostly by the “okay so suddenly this is my heritage and I am a saiyan and my whole birth family was killed by this guy huh” and the shock of watching this bastard arrogant bastard cry to his death. I love vegeta but there is no way that made goku snap or anything when goku instantly went ballistic when krillin was murdered in front of him without a trace to take back him. Absolute BS. Also anyone saying krillin has no skill as a fighter can meet me in the streets 💪🤧

Okay yeah okay I also headcanon tien as aroace, actually. I wanna say I think it feels pretty canon too considering everything about where he is in canon like … he disappears for training like a hermit right ? His worldly desires are not present methinks

Piccolo ships weird me out too but actually since they lay eggs and fertilize them too, apparently, they are canonically asexually reproductive beings and therefore I don’t think their genetics would need romance to continue populating? So I just cannot get behind namekian ships or piccolo ships. It doesn’t help that the bigger piccolo ships feel morally gray ? I don’t know

And lastly. You’re right. If I don’t get a wholesome slice of life krillin spin-off I might have to raid the toei offices.

Dimitri's Supports

I have waited FOREVER for this. Let's go. And I decided to put my patience to the test, saving Dedue for last.

Since it's Dimitri and I love him, and like Dedue who I also love, he's the only one unlocking all his A-Supports, I'm going to blog all my reactions to them like I did with Dedue. Part of me wishes I thought of this for the other characters, but honestly it would've taken forever lol. Plus Dimitri and Dedue get special treatment because I said so.

Starting off with something light hearted, I hope. I do wonder if I'm going to regret not saving this one for the inevitably heavy-handed stuff coming later.

I'm seriously betting this is a support you're supposed to get in part 1 lol. Dimitri sounds young (or maybe I'm just haven't heard non-growl part 2 Dimitri enough yet?)

Dimitri's training made Raphael think he was dying lol. Dimitri's strength is really meme tier.

I need fanart of Dimitri and Chrom co-miserating their mishandled strength breaking something. And Lucina.

Lamo, Raphael has never felt a cramp before. Lucky bastard.

Raphael is a sweetie, going to apologize to his muscles. I really wish they gave him something else to talk about other than muscles and food. Not everyone needs Dimitri tier development, but I think I'd like Raphael a lot more if he just got a smidge more depth.

Got to say, it's a bit jarring to go from "moments away from a suicide charge in the rain" to "lol, Raphael, it's muscle pain." As glad as I am that I got this support, I do think some should've been locked to part 1.

Like in past games you had Seth for Ephraim and Erikia and Soren for Ike and it's not like Ike, Ephraim and Erikia and etc don't care, but it wasn't the same level, you know? But this is such a two way street.

And I'm so weak for bodyguard with a crush. Like Seth/Eirika? Yes. Geoffrey/Elincia? 100%. Riza/Roy (Fullmetal Alchemist) there again. I'm sure there's more, but those are my top ones. Even Merlin/Arthur sort of counts even if Arthur doesn't know Merlin's his bodyguard lol.

I need to read fanfic for these two. I really don't want to spoil anything, but I'm dying. They're both just so sweet, and I just really love their dynamic. I really want to do a write up on it once I get to the end of the game.

People are getting angry about the Doc sticker in Sunstark's Lion bundle, how ridiculous can Tumblr get?

If you came here seeking for me to laugh at "ridiculous tumblr peeps" you got it wrong, cause I can see the point of both sides and partially agree with both.

On one hand, the sticker is pretty small and easy to miss. I didn't see it until someone on Twitter pointed it out, and imagine my surprise when I discovered that Sau-Siege's skin laso has stickers! Four of them, in fact!

Cav & Twitch on one buttcheek, Doc & Lion on the other 😂 Oh, and a (VIGIL) in one of the pouches!

I legit didn't notice any of them, and seeing as most of the time, while playing, the best moment to see that is if one of your teammates wears those skins, I'm pretty confident most of the players will never notice these stickers nor the supposed meaning. It's pretty un-intrusive, imo. And if you're that bothered by it, you can always not claim the skin and not use it. Easy peasy!

However, I also agree that ships shouldn't be in official skins. If it's not canon, it has no place there. It's not only people in tumblr I've seen complaining or being upset about it, I have friends in Discord who think the same. And you know what? They have every right to be unhappy with this. Why should a not-official ship be implied in an official skin? Not everyone likes it/ships it, and it's not the same as people equipping charms/chibis on operators' guns to signify ships, you can't unequip these stickers from the uniform. They might be community artists (although in Sunstark's case she is actually working for Ubisoft, so technically she isn’t a community artist anymore), but if they're getting official skins in the game, they should put their ship preferences aside for that particular project, imo.

I hadn't planned on touching upon this "controversy" cause I personally don't care about it and I don't think it's that much of a big deal, but this whole attitude of "how dare they have a different opinion" hits a little too close home with some experiences I've had. Let people dislike things, especially if they aren't attacking anyone. And this goes for both sides: don't target or badmouth the artist(s), and don't do that either with the people expressing their opinions. I don't know if anyone has done that yet, but it never hurts to leave a reminder.

Why Solangelo Isn’t A Good Ship (Sorry)

The amount of love I see for Solangelo is honestly kind of surprising???

1. It was only for publicity. The House of Hades- which is when Nico came out as gay- came out late 2013, and the spike for LGBTQ+ supporters and allies was mid-2013, and there was absolutely no foreshadowing or even hints to Nico being gay beforehand. Riordan only confirmed Nico gay to avoid backlash. And in The Blood of Olympus, Nico is openly gay to the readers, Reyna, and Jason, then comes out to Percy and Annabeth afterwards. Then he’s introduced to Will and- in the very next book they’re seen in- they’re in a loving relationship. It’s as if Riordan didn’t believe that having Nico come out as gay was good enough but had to give him a boyfriend to ‘validate’ or ‘confirm’ his sexuality like so many assholes ask LGBTQ+ people to do.

2. It happened way too fast. Will and Nico meet for the very first time and start dating within only five months. What? Not only is that too fast for normal people to actually get into a legit, real relationship that isn’t something out of a cliche high school movie, but Nico came out as gay after being scared to for years, just started slipping out of his isolated and depressive state, literally had to learn how to socialize after being alone for 3+ years, just came out of a war and even Tartarus with truck loads of PTSD that would take years to fully recover from, and just started gaining a family and friends and had to learn how to accept help and comfort from others. Tell me- how many soldiers who just came back from war are concerned about getting a boyfriend/girlfriend/datefriend? Nico’s story in BoO should’ve been about his recovery, not getting a boyfriend. I mean, he met Will for the first time and immediately started liking him, and they didn’t have any meaningful conversations whatsoever. All they did was bicker. Even in The Tower of Nero, they didn’t show any actual mutual understanding of or true affection towards each other. They didn’t talk about anything deeper than the shallow end of a pool, about each other, or even how they got to be in a relationship. They were just kind of there, reminding the readers that ‘Hey, I’m Rick Riordan and I added a gay couple to the main cast! I’m great!’

3. It was too fast for the readers. People often forget that the speed of relationships in books aren’t only about canon, but what the readers see as well, cause what good is a relationship if the fans didn’t see any of it? That’s not going to help us like it, it’s just going to confuse and annoy us. We want to see how the relationship formed, grew, and developed from a platonic friendship, acquaintance, or ally into a mutual romantic liking. If we don’t see that, the relationship is just boring and dull. Seeing the development of the relationship is what helps the readers gain a true connection and emotional bond to it. If we don’t get that, the relationship is as good as a blank page. And it’s not only that, but it’s also flat-out bad and lazy writing. Will and Nico met for the first time in BoO, talked like twice and only bickered and argued (as if that’s the start of a super healthy relationship), then in The Hidden Oracle, they’re suddenly a loving couple? What?

4. The mental illness problem. I’m sure most of you know of the disgusting and ableist stereotype that the struggle and trauma of people with mental illnesses (especially depression, anxiety, and PTSD) magically wash away after they meet their romantic partner, right? Like the teenage girl who’s having a panic attack in school, gets noticed by her crush, and is all of a sudden fine cause he touches her hand and they make eye contact? Or the girl who’s super insecure about herself but gains confidence after her boyfriend compliments her? Or the person with depression magically gets happy again after getting a partner? The same thing happened with Solangelo. At the end of The Blood of Olympus, Nico isn’t yet fully happy, but has gained the things that can make him so- a family, friends, acceptance, support, love, etc. But, after talking to Will (who’s a doctor, may I add) for the first time, all of Nico’s negative thoughts, anxiety, sadness, depression, etc. vanished and all his thoughts were replaced with ‘Will this’ and ‘Will that’. And in ToA- only five months after the war with Gaea- Nico is perfectly fine? As if all that pain and trauma could wash away in only five months? And this isn’t the first time this has happened in HoO. The same thing happened with Leo- he struggled with anxiety, depression, PTSD, etc. but after he met Calypso all those internal struggles magically washed away and he was happy only after getting a girlfriend, so it’s obvious Riordan isn’t exactly avoiding this hurtful stereotype.

5. It ruined their characters. Before meeting Will, Nico had a lot going for his character, a development that didn’t need to be completed with a love interest. He was realistic, relatable, and overall one of the best written characters in HoO, and his trauma and struggles were actually really well-written. But, after he met Will, the entirety of his character was ‘Will Solace’s boyfriend’. That’s all Riordan wrote about after he and Will communicated for the first time. Nico didn’t even talk to Reyna, Hazel, Percy (besides telling him he had a crush on him, which- again- is just another part of his love life), etc., and the only time he did talk to someone else (Jason), all he thought about was Will and how he was ‘disappointed’ that it wasn’t him. All of Nico’s character arc, struggles, relatability, and everything else Riordan worked up to his character was destroyed to make room for his love life. As for Will, he was actually quite a cool character- driving around Manhattan on a motorcycle, fighting in the Battle of Manhattan, protecting Camp Half-Blood, sewing Paolo’s severed leg back together, healing Annabeth’s poison knife wound, etc., plus all the cool powers he must’ve had as a son of Apollo. Even his personality was interesting- extremely caring, too dedicated, intelligent, calm, patient, etc., and I was really hoping to see him at his full potential in HoO. But Riordan ditched all the potential Will had for ‘Nico di Angelo’s boyfriend’. Even their personalities were washed away for cute pet names and teasing.

6. The fandom ruined their characters. This was really annoying. At first I mildly disliked Solangelo, but after the fandom’s take on it, I couldn’t stand it. The fans completely destroyed Will and Nico. I mean- is there any post about Will that doesn’t involve Nico in it at one point or another? And there are barely any posts about Nico that doesn’t involve Will or some other male character like Jason or Percy or that doesn’t mention his sexuality. I get that they’re dating, but that doesn’t mean they’re completely dependent on each other now. Another problem is their personalities. The fandom portrays them extremely inaccurately. Will isn’t a super upbeat, cheerful, bright, outgoing, happy-go-lucky guy. He’s actually a serious and determined hard-worker who just cares a lot about people. Just because he’s the son of the sun god and has blond hair and blue eyes doesn’t mean he’s the definition of ‘happiness’. As for Nico, the fandom just gave him a whole new personality as well. I mean- Nico swooning or blushing cause Will called him ‘Sweetheart’ or some other cliche pet name? What? Since when? Solangelo was bad on its own, but the fandom just ruined it completely.

7. Y’all only like it cause it’s gay. Sorry to be the one to say this, but if the majority of you hate Jiper after reading a whole series on them where they actually talked to each other besides about their physical health because it happened ‘too fast’ (which, I agree, it did) but love Solangelo after barely two paragraphs? Why aren’t any of you guys complaining that that went too fast? The reason is pretty obvious. This is a problem most fandoms have- they only like ships (especially canon ships) no matter how unrealistic, unhealthy, or toxic it is because it’s gay. If Nico was straight and Will was a girl but everything else went exactly the same, y’all would’ve hated on it in a heartbeat, but because it’s two guys... yay Solangelo???

5. What is/are your least favorite trope(s)?

HMM! Idk if this counts as a trope, but I CANNOT read anything with public sex (MAYBE semi-public but even then it depends). Like idk bajdjsjs I'm super squicky about the idea of someone stumbing in upon or watching the MCs of the fic. Like- MAYBE if its one person watching in a confined space, otherwise, if its like a crowd or smth then nuh uh I'm not reading it. I think maybe part of it comes from a strong sense of second hand embarrassment or smth lol.

Next- I wouldn't say I 'dislike' this trope, but hurt/no comfort. I mean- maybe I'll read it, but I'm a godamn sap, so even in stuff like darkfic I need some kind of closure ;-;. Even if the ending isn't "happy", I prefer bittersweet to just... bitter akdjskd. I need some relief, otherwise it's just Torture Porn? Which can be enjoyable ig but very very very rarely for me.

Oh another one is when a ship is put in the main tags... only to break up/not be the main pair ajdbsj. Like- I read a bkdk fic (bc i was in the bkdk tag) that was about Deku cheating on Bakugou w Todoroki and breaking up, and then the following fic was Kiribaku. LIKE hsjdjasj it makes me so mad! Why couldn't the break up have been referenced in the kiribaku fic?? Why make a new fic! Doesnt make sense to me. It's even worse if your ship is a rarepair/not that popular. Like- I ship Reibert, which isn't exactly a rarepair, but it always shows up as a sidepair. I have to legit filter out the jeanmarco tag bc it takes up the reibert tag, and just has them in the background and it annoys me sm >:/ Wait does that count as a trope-? Whatever.

This isn't a trope, but it's rare I like canon ships. Like- if a ship is implied canon it's like meh :/. I think a lot of the fun comes from the knowing your ship won't be canon and the potential there, so canon ships are kinda "boring" to me. With expections, of course, but yeah. Its like a lot of the potential is already gone, and I think its partly due to lazy writing, bc once characters are romantically involved a lot of writers cba to develop their actual relationship and individual characters. (This doesn't go for fic, more canon stuff).

11. What makes a great ship in your own opinion?

HMM. Well, as mentioned, I think the best ships always tend to be the non-canon ones :"). Idk I just feel like when there's only a platonic relationship on-screen, it means there's so much more to develop and explore in fic and fandom. Generally though, I love characters that are opposites (opposites attract 4 life), but still similar enough to flow off each other and have an enjoyable dynamic. Because you ship Rickorty too, I'll use them as an example: I like how they work as a team and balance each other's strengths, but at the same time can be conflicting and bicker a lot. If you look at my other fave ships (Bakudeku, Shizaya, Frostshield) I think I really have a thing for opposites (and blondes... apparently). I love when there's one half who's honest and earnest, and one who's more reseved and manipulative/complicated. I love ships that bring out the best in each other, and again, act as a balance for each other's strengths/weaknesses. I love the "stronger together" shit, I'm weak for it, and I love the whole "x is soft for y, and y is tough for x". Its *mwah* perfection. I love when the ship gives each other a different perspective on life, makes them change for the better.

I think the best ships are, when you put them in a room together, something interesting is bound to happen.

(Fluff and mushy shit aside I love when ships have a lot of potential for angst too >:D)

28. What is your best shipping advice?

This is a vagueish question so I'll answer as "best advice for a shipper".

Imo, ship what you want and dgaf. Someone will share your ship (someone always does, trust me), and if it's a rarepair, be the change you want to see in the world! Even if you feel like you're the only one making content for something and enjoying it, I guarantee, someone else will be searching for it and be very thankful to find it. If someone wants to talk about their ships with you, and if its not a trigger/uncomfortable for you, let them! They'll probably let you talk about yours in turn. Respect other people's ships, and they'll respect yours. If you don't like a ship, you're free to complain about it, but make sure to complain about the ship and NOT the shipper. Block whoever you want, it's literally no big deal, and if people are being jerks you don't have to listen to them. AO3 is a godsend, its tagging system and bookmarks are a godsend, use them! If you really enjoyed a fic, leave a comment! Please ;-; Doesn't have to be big. Write/make what you want, even if it's for yourself.

The most important thing is to have fun! :D

Frost can always do the unbelievable, right? Like I’m sure that in that time period Henry still cared about his appearance to create positive image on the ladies and whole kingdom, not that of a dishevelled lunatic that is incapable of doing anything than having sex and throwing fits actually.

However, I don’t feel sorry (and I can bet neither you Anon) when he keeps crying and complaining how CoA the wanton whore cast him in Hell and made him a sinner. Frost legit made him believe in what he said because he’d lost his mind and I’m here sitting like what does she want to achieve by that? Maybe not to make him sympathetic, but IDK preserve her “grand love story” - Henry loved Catherine, but then he lost his mind after Francis beat him up & I suppose also Wolsey made use of poor Henry for his schemes (replace beating up with joust and Wolsey with Cromwell and we get a too-well-known narrative spread in some circles. Henry was okay until he got hit in the head and targeted Anne).

EF did not even make him hot and made him absolutely unshippable and yet some people still ship Anne x Henry in TSP when we see him clearly abusing his wife both physically and mentally at the same time? And what if she lied, Henry lied too about having slept with Juana, and CoA was actually informed by her father about this and warned about marrying this man based on that. Catherine simply decided that Juana was lying on purpose to destroy her life. It’s weird how this lie was not mentioned again, of course not by Henry because he’s a self-righteous hypocrite, but by CoA herself, or reminded in any flashback? And NGL even this Anne does not look happy to me to be told by her Dad to court this pig, she has to smile and laugh in front of him, but I don’t see her happy at the prospect at all... There is this idea here that Thomas Boleyn is doing everything to keep his family safe precisely because he knows about Henry’s “humours” and it’s not only ambition, but also fear that makes them want to be in the king’s favour. Same with Maggie. He is so visibly crazy everyone just ass kisses him out of fear. It’s... actually really sad? Like I can’t comprehend how people can ship it, especially in TSP, sorry.

Despite Frost’s boyfriend’s comments how “witch” Anne destroyed CoA’s happiness with Henry, there was nothing of this in the show because it was clear all the marital mess had nothing to do with Anne. He turned vile before becoming interested in Anne and yet people still want this gross man, who treats his wife so abominably, for their fave??? I feel sorry for her because she clearly feels obligated to please this asshole for her family’s sake, and if anything we should have all prayed CoA actually killed him in this crazy show when she got the chance and did herself and Anne a favour lol.

CoA was also Henry VIII’s victim and some people (who mostly care about their ship, not fans of AB in general) gloss over the fact that this man dragged through the mud a woman who was a good queen and wife for so many years, conspired behind her back with Great Matter, made a huge drama around her virginity, divulged private information about her and his brother’s private (intimate) lives, humiliated her multiple times, spread rumours about her being “diseased” and being of doubtful reputation etc. etc. and only wake up when he begins to use similar tactics to the other half of their ship (and yes it ended differenly simply because he could not just execute a woman with such powerful connections in Europe). But he got hit in the head and evil Cromwell appeared, I forgot. Poor Henry truly believed in his accusations against Anne and suffered until the end of his days 😭 😭 😭.

IDK some people behave like he just came and politely asked her for a divorce so that he might sire a son with another woman and she simply refused him out of sheer spite because she didn’t want him happy with another. And I won’t even mention people who apparently believe falling out of love with your spouse was enough for divorce in 16th century and I’ve seen takes based on that as well.

And sorry, but I do believe he was well aware of CoA’s virginity or lack thereof when they married and it simply never bothered him until he decided to use this to make himself 100% right and the wronged party in divorce proceedings. He was historically sly enough to do so, unlike his show counterpart. The dispensation definitely covered for such possibility and the English were the party that wanted to have that assurance:

Both sides agreed that a papal dispensation was needed. The couple had become, at least in theory, related in the first degree of affinity when Catherine married Arthur. The issue of Catherine’s sex life raised its head again for, if she had stayed a virgin, there was no real affinity. The marriage treaty explicitly states that a dispensation was required because ‘her marriage to Prince Arthur was solemnised according to the rites of the Catholic Church and afterwards consummated’. Even if we assume Henry wanted to contest the validity of actual papal dispensation & papal authority and just stick to Scripture literally:

It meant that Anne was related to Henry ‘by affinity’. Henry’s ambassadors in Rome, then, were given a double task. Not only did he want his and Catherine’s marriage annulled, he also needed to clear the way for her rival. That would require a papal dispensation allowing him to marry Anne, despite his previous sexual relationship with her sister. The dispensation, it was suggested, should allow him to marry a woman who might ‘be related ... in the first degree of affinity, arising from whatever licit or illicit intercourse’. The double standard was remarkable. On the one hand the pope was being told it had been wrong for Catherine to win a dispensation to marry her former husband’s brother. On the other hand, he was being asked to write a dispensation for Henry to marry his former lover’s sister.

Things that bother me about Percabeth

Warning: this is going to be long and I'm not even sure if this will make sense. Also don't read this if you aren't open to criticizms of Percabeth.

Percabeth is a good ship, or at least has potential as one, but it has many legit flaws (this and this go into the flaws. By the way, go check out @takaraphoenix's Riordan crit) and I have some personal grievances. I'll write this out to understand my stance better because I need to get this off my chest.

I believe most people wouldn't agree with me on all this, but this post is entirely self-indulgent and I'm doing this for catharsis, so don't come at me. This isn't an objective analysis, just me trying to clear my thoughts. But feel free to share your opinions if you want.

Evolution in PJO

This is a pretty general point. I love the evolution of their dynamic in pjo. Their bickering, them opening up to each other and becoming so important to each other, the slow and steady buildup, it's great. Heck, I love slow burn. They have some good moments in pjo: Annabeth opening up to Percy on the zoo express, the scene with the sirens, Percy doing everything he did to save Annabeth in ttc, their conversation after Annabeth took the knife for Percy in tlo. (The underwater kiss is not one of my favourite moments, I'll come to that later.)

The romantic evolution, though, I'm not sure. I enjoyed it in ttc, there were small subtle hints like Aphrodite's scarf, or Aphrodite looking like Annabeth to Percy. But it became kind of tiring in botl onwards. Annabeth was extremely possessive and awful to Rachel. And in tlo things became a bit over-the-top.

I think Rick tried to establish them as the Most Important Person to each other. I don't like that. This is more apparent in HoO. I'll come to hoo later, but there is one instance of this in tlo: Percy seeing Annabeth in the Styx. Like one of the posts I've linked above says, it's shippy nonsense. It comes from the idea that one's romantic partner must be the most important. It doesn't make sense. I think Percy should have seen his mother in the Styx. It would make sense for Sally to be Percy's anchor, considering how much she means to him.

In short, their enemies-to-friends evolution was great, their friends-to-lovers evolution started out fine but became too much for me, and their friends-to-Most-Important-Person-to-each-other evolution was unnecessary and forced.

Luke

Luke and Annabeth's romantic subplot didn't need to exist. This isn't exactly Percabeth, but I'll say it here anyway. First of all, there's a seven year age gap, so Luke returning Annabeth's feelings is creepy. And it seems pretty unnecessary to me. It's also a bit of a mess. In tlt Annabeth blushes when Luke is around, and Luke says 'She's like my little sister.' In tlo Luke asks Annabeth if she loved him, and she says 'You were like a brother to me.' This part feels like Rick trying to add last-moment tension to Percabeth by making Luke a potential 'rival' to Percy. In the Staff of Hermes Percy says Annabeth had a crush on Luke, and as she got older, Luke had a crush on her too. Just ... Why?

They and Thalia were each other's first friends. Annabeth looked up to Luke and Luke was fond of Annabeth. That is enough reason for Annabeth to be hurt and for Luke to care about Annabeth. That is enough to set up their post-betrayal dynamic. The romance thing was completely unnecessary.

Rachel

I absolutely hate the way Annabeth treated Rachel. If there is one thing I despise about romantic subplots, it's justifying bitchiness with romantic jealousy. I guess it's okay to feel a little jealous or even possessive, and I can kind of see where Annabeth was coming from, but treating someone like shit because of that, especially in the middle of dangerous quests, is not okay. It's petty and immature. (It could be argued that Annabeth was mad because Rachel got to lead her quest, but let's be honest, she wouldn't have been that mad if it were anyone else. She specifically treated Rachel like that out of jealousy.) It was never called out and Annabeth never seemed to regret it. This bothers me so much. Fanfiction is a good coping mechanism, I suppose, but I'm here to complain about canon, not cope with it.

Speaking of Rachel, Perachel could have been a good ship. A demigod looking for a normal life and a mortal with clear sight. This elaborates on that pretty well. At the end of tlo it really felt like Rick had to get Rachel out of the way to make way for Percabeth.

Annabeth seems to be too demanding

Annabeth's attitude towards Percy bothers me sometimes. She's a good character and has a strong dynamic with Percy, but she's a bit tiring with regards to Percy (in a romantic sense; she's fine as his friend). I mean look at this quote from tlo:

I can't pretend I hadn't thought about Rachel. She was so much easier to be around than ... Well, than some other girls I knew. I didn't have to work hard, or watch what I said, or wrack my brain trying to figure out what she was thinking.

Percy feeling that way about Annabeth - his best friend of four years - just doesn't sit well with me. Percy straight up admits he's more comfortable with Rachel than with Annabeth.

There's more: Annabeth punching Percy when he asked who he should dance with in ttc, the way she treated Rachel, the way she behaved towards Percy regarding Rachel in botl, judo flipping him in moa. It's pretty tiring in general. Now that I think of it, this wasn't a thing before the romance showed up. Their dynamic was better in the earlier books in general.

Also personally I'm not a fan of Annabeth constantly calling Percy Seaweed Brain. This and this nicely sum up how I feel about that. Annabeth making fun of Percy's intelligence even after getting to know him makes no sense, especially as he was insecure about his intelligence. (And yes, I know she thought he was intelligent, as she said in the Demigod Files, but that doesn't cancel out the million times she called him stupid to his face.)

They became too couple coded

I've seen people say that Percabeth is better as friends than as lovers, and honestly I agree, and I've done some thinking to figure out why. I think it's because of the way they were written after they became a couple. They could have been fine as a couple, if they were written differently.

They started out not being able to stand each other, then gradually, they went through a lot together, got to know each other, learned to work together, and became a team. That was a great evolution, like I said before.

And like I also said before, everything I dislike about Percabeth showed up with the romance. Annabeth became catty and possessive. They became a couple. And it was as if the friendship wasn't there anymore, just the romance. They became like a cliche unreasonable girlfriend and clueless boyfriend. This is especially obvious in the beginning of Percy Jackson and the Staff of Hermes. Where's the friendship? Where's the comfortable bantering? Where's the known-each-other-for-years soundness? Hoo Percabeth just doesn't live up to pjo Percabeth at all.

(Also this is a personal bias of mine, but I'm partially romance repulsed. I can't stand cheesy romantic coded stuff. I only like lovers if they're also friends. So I guess I'm kind of pissed about Percabeth becoming so couple coded after becoming a couple.)

Their HoO dynamic

This is a related point. Like I said, hoo Percabeth doesn't live up to pjo Percabeth. All they care about is each other. They literally don't think about anyone else at all. Percy loses his memory and he remembers Annabeth. Why? Does Hera ship Percabeth? If he remembered anyone, it should have been his mom, like in the Styx. The only reason Percy remembered Annabeth, i.e Annabeth was made out to be more important to Percy than everyone else (including Grover and Tyson and Sally 'best person in the world' Jackson) is that she was his romantic partner. Again, it's shippy nonsense.

And there's this reveal that Annabeth had a crush on Percy all along. Are you kidding me? It completely retcons the enemies-to-friends development. Are you telling me that the Percabeth evolution in pjo where they learned not to hate each other was a lie? That Annabeth gradually opening up to Percy and coming to appreciate him was her acting out of a crush? I'm not believing that, no way.

I'm probably not making any sense, but my point is that Percabeth in hoo in cheesy and can't go one day without each other and people love it but I don't. It kind of messes up their previous dynamic, which is a shame because I liked pre-hoo Percabeth.

Rick seems to go overboard sometimes

I'm about to get a little controversial here. Many of the Percabeth posts in those tumblr screenshots going around social media are about the campers shipping Percabeth, or Arachne making Percabeth fanart, things like that. My theory is that part of the reason Percabeth is so popular is that the characters ship it. And Rick kind of goes overboard with that - not just with the in-universe shipping, with the ship itself.

Prime examples of going overboard are Percy seeing Annabeth in the Styx and remembering Annabeth when Hera took his memory, which imply that Annabeth was objectively the Most Important Person to Percy. I've already ranted about these above so moving on to the part about the in-universe shipping. Like I said, I'm not a fan of the underwater kiss. It's because of the situation involved. The campers just won a war and lost their friends and siblings, Clarisse just lost Silena, you'd think they'd have other things to care about than Percy and Annabeth kissing, at least for one day. And why did Arachne make fanart of that? How did she even know? There was also the matter of moving to New Rome - them wanting to move halfway across country to live together, away from New York, doesn't really make sense to me. This post elaborates on that and suggests better alternatives.

Of course, the author has complete control over the narrative, and the author wants you to believe they are making sense. And when the characters believe that too, it becomes harder for readers not to. When all the campers ship Percabeth, it's enough to convince half the readers to ship it too. (And of course, the pjo fandom has an unhealthy thing with canon ships.)

It's pretty much kept up by the fans

While we're at it, let's talk about the out-of-universe shipping. The fandom has always shipped Percabeth, partly just because they are the male lead and female lead of a series. Percabeth was set up to happen, so when Rick introduced Rachel, who actually made Percy feel good about himself and let him be himself around her, and whom Percy was interested in, he had to get her out of the way. I'm not sure I can explain it, but the Percabeth ending in the first series feels very fan service-y to me.

Platonic Percabeth vs romantic Percabeth

I think everything I've said above just explains why Percabeth worked better as friends. The had a great friendship arc and became two friends who know each other inside out, butt heads a lot but love and respect each other deeply. And then when the romance happened, Annabeth began to show these romanticized but actually toxic girlfriend stereotypes - being jealous and possessive, expecting Percy to read her mind and getting pissed when he can't, etc.

The fandom thinks those traits are okay, because they are normalised in society. People think that's how couples should work (it's not). And so the reasons I don't like Percabeth are the same reasons many people do. The date in the beginning of Staff of Hermes makes me cringe, because they were friends first and friends don't work like that. But no doubt there are many people who find it cute because society loves to romanticise the unreasonable girlfriend and clueless boyfriend trope. There are plenty of people who romanticise Annabeth judo flipping Percy or treating Rachel like shit, because things like that are normalised but I personally can't stomach them at all.

Anyway, those toxic traits come with the Percabeth romance as a package deal and there's no getting rid of them. That's why Percy and Annabeth worked better as friends, and why I feel things would be better if they just stayed friends. There was none of that tiring crap pre-romance. I can't stress this enough, I really loved their friendship in tlt or som. But when their dynamic evolved to romance, it messed up their friendship. There was a specific moment in botl when Percabeth began to feel off for me.

'She will calm down,' Chiron promised. 'She's jealous, my boy.'

'That's stupid. She's not... it's not like...'

Chiron chuckled. 'It hardly matters. Annabeth is very territorial about her friends, in case you haven't noticed. ...'

I don't know why this moment specifically, but this kind of marked a change for me. This is where Percabeth became seriously romantic, and I didn't like the related developments. This was the beginning of Annabeth's jealousy.

So what would I prefer?

I'll be honest, I shipped Percabeth for a while, probably because I love some friends-to-lovers. So I was going to make a list of things I'd change about Percabeth. I wanted to make some self-indulgent UAs (universe alterations) to fix the things I don't like. But then I started writing this thing and read up on other posts and stuff and I realised the list of things that bother me is huge and I could never make Percabeth work for me without messing everything up. So I just gave up shipping it entirely.

What I would prefer is an AU where Percabeth stays platonic forever (@elf-loving-dragon has been encouraging that idea as well). They were great as friends and I want that back. It would be so refreshing to have the male lead and female lead not end up together. Annabeth could end up alone, and still get her something permanent with her friends and camp. It would be so beautiful if something completely romance-free was specifically stated as permanent, because friendships in media deserve as much love as romance.

As for Percy, he could end up either alone or with Rachel. I don't ship him with anyone else rn. While I have made it obvious that I like Perachel, I still don't know if I actually ship it, and the idea of Percy ending up alone is not too bad either. (Update: I stan platonic Percabeth and qpp Perachel now.)

I promise I'm done now. Whew. If you've made it to the end of this long repetitive introspection, congratulations. i am slightly gayer for janai because her character design is my favourite in the whole show and she’s a sword gay whereas amaya is a shield gay; that being said, this is the gayest amaya screencap be still my beating heart

also janai is my 2nd favourite minor character and while i don’t know where amaya falls ranking wise every time she’s on screen it’s a delight, so. one day i will write that meta about them i keep meaning to because even in a short amount of screentime they really are such a well developed pair with so much room to grow and i do have a lot of thoughts and feelings about it. i also feel very strongly about them having cats (one the big fire cat and one a small ordinary one) and happily ruling queen lux aurea together. and a couple of oneshots i want to write someday soon 👀

however sometimes i struggle with having inspiration/motivation to do jana.ya related projects bc of.... (and this got long and if you think it’s too long sucks to be you sweetie)

now, i’m sure that 98% of janai/amaya shippers are lovely, amazing people. and i’m not saying that the handful of shippers and their more general attitude that i dislike belongs to people who aren’t. i’m sure they’re great people! that just... isn’t reflected online. this is just what personally bothers me.

the three issues i’m going to talk about also aren’t unique to the jan.aya corner either - also see it in some hardcore vi.ren stan corners and in other fandoms past. it may exist elsewhere in tdp fandom and i just don’t know (i curate the content i see heavily bc it’s my responsibility to handle my own online experience, so i’m surprised any of this even got through) but it is where i have seen it the most in the past, so:

1) consistent complaining. have you ever had a friend, or known a person, who complains about everything? even the things they’re supposed to like or say they enjoy? enough is never enough. and you can see this bias in particular because people will complain about things are either nonsensical (ie. the novelization not being written to your standards even tho you are 100% not the age demographic for it) or just being angry about things that aren’t true (i had it pointed out to me that someone complained about tdp’s head writer not doing a BLM livestream and like. she did. what are you doing with your life?)

and in fandom, this is a really counterproductive attitude to have. like, i have been in fandoms and watched legit core main characters be sidelined. i have been in fandoms where my ship didn’t get any screentime and wasn’t canon and wasn’t even popular fanon wise either. and they were het ships. and guess what? i didn’t complain, because i knew the story didn’t revolve around that relationship. i measured my expectations appropriately and learned to work with what i was given and i had a good time. you don’t always have to be angry.

and that’s not to say you can’t complain in fandom. that’s kinda what i’m doing right now! there are definitely things in fandom and canon for any material that can and should be called out. but like, if for some good reason, callum and rayla had completely separate arcs in s4 and barely had any screentime together next season, i’d be okay with it because i actually like/love everything else in the story. i’d learn to make it work. i didn’t complain. i’ve worked with otps that were just as big for me on even less.

and this is just general like. if you spend over 50% of your time in a fandom being angry, you either need to channel your energy differently or you need to leave. they’re fictional characters. you’re a real person. it’s not worth it.

2) entitlement + superiority complexes. but from what i’ve seen, what a lot of this complaining stems from isn’t expectations, but entitlement. it’s the expectation that someone has to conform to whatever it is that you want because clearly, that’s the best content, and if they don’t, that’s a moral failing. and usually this is wrapped up into some kind of “wokeness”. janai/amaya are tdp’s best couple in terms of representation, no doubt. it’s something i’ve ever seen before, of a wlw interracial relationship between two women of colour, one of whom is also deaf. but that doesn’t actually mean they’re the best couple in the show, because that doesn’t exist. because there is no Best™ - there’s just your favourite, and that’s entirely subjective.

but people want to feel good, and want to feel in control. that’s why i see this sort of entitlement most commonly in queer ships online by queer people, and i can see the routes of overcompensation it stems, because i’ve lived it. i’m queer too. and not only does it lead to a lot of asshole behaviour, but it’s also really isolating. there’s already a lot of issues with gatekeeping within the community, which boil down to people not being “gay” or “insert [x thing] here” enough, and not only is that one hell of a shitty feeling, but it can and absolutely exacerbated in fandom. how many times have you seen things of “maybe the hets do have rights ;)” or “i like this character too much so they have to bi” - how do you think that makes queer people who for whatever reason mostly have m/f ships feel? how do you think that makes people in “straight appearing relationships” like for trans straight people, enby couples, bi/pan/ace people, etc., feel? how do you think it makes bi people feel to know their identity is a consolation prize awarded to an otherwise straight character so they can be part of a same sex ship? what blind spots are you developing, such as actually talking about race in fandom which is still a massive topic and under-addressed issue, by privileging gender and ‘queer rep’ above all else?

if you honestly think an interracial m/f relationship between two cis characters doesn’t matter as much on a representational axis as two white same sex characters being in a relationship, then you actually need to re-evaluate. and then you need to remember that people ship dynamic over gender any day. if you make a purpose to consume diverse media, you’ll probably have more diverse ships. but unless someone doesn’t ship a queer ship specifically because it’s queer, then it’s not homophobia, and it’s not homophobic for people to share other fictional avenues in a fanon space with each other.

but now onto the big one.

3) anti shipping & fandom policing. the jan.aya corner is the only corner i see in the tdp fandom that has what we call antis. and before anyone gets up in arms about any of that (although realistically, if this bothers you, you’ve probably have already been bothered) read this post and then come back. there’s a lot more links to posts that have said it better than i ever could on their way.

also keep in mind that i am an english major. i am getting a degree in how literature across like, the past 600+ years is discussed and how it impacts culture is literally what i write university level essays on and i’m an honours student.

antis believe that there’s a certain moral standard we have to hold all media, included those that are created by teenagers for free on the internet to certain moral standards. often that certain ships are inherently problematic no matter the au or fanwork, or that characters being child soldiers are okay but if fictional teenagers think about sex? incorrigible. not only does any of this hold up under a microscope when you think about the purposes of fiction, exploration of the human condition, and more posts here, here, here, here, and HERE. if you only read one of these, have it be the last one.

but because of this type of fandom policing, i was a questioning queer 16 year old who was called a homophobic pedophile by adults on the internet for which two fictional characters i thought would be cute together. that is not an exaggeration. that is literally what happened to me. i was a teenager being told by complete strangers what was okay or safe for me to look at it and none of them wondered how i was supposed to develop critical thinking skills, learn to cope with upsetting things in fiction that is decidedly a safer place to do so before i had to cope with upsetting things in real life, or the fact that sometimes, it really isn’t that deep and people do just want to have fun. by all means, disagree with me. i want you to think for yourself.

and yeah, those people at the time didn’t know i was a minor. i’ve been very private about my personal information, including my age, online until very recently. but you cannot tell me those people were entitled to my age or any of my personal information to determine whether i was worthy of respect in order for me to able to write fucking fanfiction for a children’s cartoon show without having my entire morality put on the line.

and the main reason why i hate seeing so many teenagers in particular be antis is because it forces them into a dangerous mindset that they have to share private, sensitive information about themselves in order to avoid harassment. that they feel shame for their preferences or ideas they want to explore in fiction, the shame that used to be given to people for their edgy Mary Sues, the people that are probably going through shit and don’t even know it and are trying work through it. you are not entitled to anyone’s personal information online. ever. especially people who will be hostile to you, otherwise, if you don’t give it.

as someone who almost doubled majored in european history, and i know a lot of you are coming from a similar western background, current anti rhetoric and purity culture are like, three steps away from samuel johnson and puritan culture. and i would much, much rather have teenas writing smut about characters that are or they’ve made their age to explore that side of themselves in a safe place than have them engaging in sex themselves where there are actual fucking risks.

this is not to say that no fanon material is ever worthy of critique or concern. racism should be called out. actual transphobia and homophobia should be called out. but let’s be honest: that’s not actually the conversation want to have.

antis want to stick their heads up their asses and argue that characters are frozen in time at a certain age (say 15 and 17 respectively) and if you dare picture them in their 30s and write smut of them then you are a terrible person who’s going to hurt “the children” even though you could easily be one of those “children” yourself and game of thrones fucking exists for mass consumption. but no. your enjoyment of something that’s ultimately harmless is the hill they wanna die on.

anyway some more sections from other posts i agree with:

just realized the intersection of aphobia and purity culture, namely the aphobic claim that children and teens can’t/shouldn’t be thinking about sex and therefore can’t be asexual LINK

Antis have never once, to my knowledge, come up with a reasonable test for whether a work is “romanticizing” or “fetishizing” a topic, or treating it “properly”. They aren’t able to say how they’d ban “bad” works without also banning real, vital, and necessary works that let people recognize and talk about abuse and assault. We NEED to shift the conversation from getting rid of “bad” works to learning how to recognize, find, and create “good” ones.) LINK

We can have conversations about patterns we see in fanworks. We can discuss how we portray characters and relationships, how to effectively convey what we want to in writing, how to sensitively approach representations of marginalized characters. But having those conversations productively requires that we approach each other in good faith, and it requires the ability to self-regulate–including recognizing that often there is no hard line, no black and white answer, and we won’t always come to the same conclusions.

It requires an understanding up front that eliminating all fanworks we don’t care for is not the end goal of these conversations.

If you are deliberately seeking out content that you know will upset you and reading it anyway and then feeling that you need to take those bad feelings out on the creator, you are not taking care of yourself. You are not engaging in healthy behavior or productive coping mechanisms. You are not keeping yourself safe, and you are not helping to make fandom safer for others. You are not engaging in good faith. LINK

And again: a lot of this is about a general fandom attitude that exists online, not necessarily specifically about jan.aya, and 99% of jan.aya shippers are lovely amazing talented people. even the ones who get on my nerves are all those good things too.

but these are the things i hate in fandom that i don’t like to see, and this is where i see it, and this is my experience. take it or leave it.

So, Squiggles :) What do you think of the newest episode?

Hey Mizu. I’m not sure if you’re asking me for an overall review of theepisode or one that’s more in depth which potentially goes into more spoiler territory. Just to be safe, I’m going to do it both ways. I’ll give my generalspoiler-free thoughts on the episode before I go into the specifics of somethings I liked and didn’t like about the episode. But undercut for obvious spoilers.Cool?

Overall, chapter 3 was another solid episode. Similar to how V6 started off, CRWBY Writers really aren’t giving any room for downtime with these episodes as we’re immediately chucked into the meat of the episode— the mission with the Aces. I figured we would have at least gotten to seeing our heroes settling into Atlas and adjusting to their new surroundings before the big mission but…NOPE! Mission time! So I’ll at least give you that bit about the episode since it was highlighted in the synopsis for this episode.

Overall, I enjoyed CH3. It was cool and it showed everyone in action. However there were some specific things that stood out to me that I wanted to give my opinion undercut.

[Spoilers Ahead! Nuff Said!]

Rosebuds:

First off, the brief conversation between Ruby and Oscar. With theway how the episode chucked us straight into the mission, ya girl was worriedthat Oscar wasn’t even going to be in this episode since his absence from themission has been highlighted since as early as the V7 Trailer. But thankfully,the little barn prince shared one scene with Ruby.

Turns out we were all right about Oscar confronting Ruby about her stunt in Ironwood’s office. It was a little shorter than I expected but… then again, it wasn’t the key focus of the episode so I gave it a pass.Still it is noteworthy that Ruby entrusted the Relic of Knowledge back to Oscar. This is interesting to me since it brings to light a point of concern I made in my very last theory post from this week. With Oscar now having the Relic back in his possession, I wonder if history will repeat itself with the roles reversed.

Could this moment from the episode be a possible foreshadow to Oscar using the Relic to out Ruby in a similar fashion to how she used the Relic on Oz last season?

Could Oscar simply just threaten Ruby with the Relic leading to the two having a big fight or…could Oscar potentially end up using Jinn to show Ironwood the truth behind Ruby’s back?

All of these are possibilities now to add to the table of events brought to you by this small exchange. It’s quite fascinating really. I don’t want Oscar to come tothis point. But for now, it’s definitely a probability with the Relic in his hands.

Aces:

The Ace Ops were all very, very cool in this episode. I loved their comradery with each other. I especially wanted to point out Vine and Elm’s dynamic. While I’m still unsure if they’re a legit couple, I did like how the chapter paired them off to work with JNR while Bunny Bites—Harriet and Marrow—worked with RWBY.

Clover was also placed to work with Qrow and might I say this—I’m strangely fighting the urge to ship Qrow and Clover now.

There is a moment in this episode where Qrow explains his semblance to Clover only for Clover to confirm what us RWBY theorists predicted. His semblance is good fortune which is excellent.

Clover complements Qrow in a good way. Not to mention that look Qrow gives Clover after he told him his semblance while the camera literally lingers on him for a couple of frames made me wonder.

I couldn’t help but feel as it this moment sparked Qrow potentially being infatuated with Clover or…it could just simply be a respectable man-crush. Y’know a bromance. Nothing really gay about. Not that there’s anything wrong with Qrow being gay (technically bisexual). For all we know, Qrow just loves Clover…in the very heterosexual way. If you caught the reference then y’know what I’m talking about.

Anyways as I was saying about Elm and Vine, this episode definitely highlighted their strong teamwork. These two complement each other so well and the way they bounce off of one another really shines in their pair dynamic. Love it and love these two. This is, however, the least I can say for our favourite little Flower Power pair. This unfortunately which brings to light one of the things I didn’t like so much about the episode.

Wilted Flower Power:

Ren’s sudden change in attitude with Nora—what the f***? I mean he isn’tbeing cold or rude to her. He just feels oddly closed off from her this episodewhich leaves me, as the viewer, asking the obvious question: Where is this coming from?

Sure we caught a glimpse of it in the first episode when Ren suddenly took off in battle while Nora sulked in the background. And while I was correct in this development in their rapport returning in a later episode; regardless, where isRen’s sudden mood change with Nora coming from?

It’s not to say that it’s been built up since V6? I mean I got the feeling that the Writers might introduce some tension between Ren and Nora given that we’re supposed to be learning more about her. But this still doesn’t give any rationale to this behaviour. If the Writers plan to have Ren and Nora break up temporarily due to Ren acting differently with Nora only to have them learn a lesson through observing Elm and Vine and come back stronger than ever as both a couple and a team partnership then…. that’s fine. Ijust wished they had done a better job at introducing this ‘issue’ inthe Flower Power teamwork if you know what I mean. Cause it feels very out of the blue; at least in my opinion.

I just didn’t enjoy seeing Nora being her usual self with Ren only for him to reply in a way that feels so uncharacteristic for him. Yes, Ren has shown exasperation at times with Nora but it’s never been to a level where he comes off annoyed with her. In spite of Nora’s big animated personality, that might tire some people, Ren has always been very patient with Nora often finding her behaviour amusing which was a big reason why I fell in love with shipping Renora.

In spite of their different personalities, the two have always complimented each other and worked well together. Having Ren be like this with her…I’m sorry. If this is how the Writers are going to do things with Renora then I’m already disliking the execution of it. It’s not terrible. Just seems a little forced to me.

Dem Bees:

Another thing that occurred for this episode that I sadly did not care for was the moment between Yang and Blake in this episode where Yang complimented Blake’s new hairstyle.

Some context for the scene: Blake notices Yang staring at her from afar. Yang reacts awkwardly and says, “Sorry. Not used to the new hair yet.”

Blake then asks, while blushing, “Is it bad?” only for Yang to respond many times “No” while fumbling over her words.

This moment. Y’see this moment right here, folks. Do you know what this immediately reminded me of?

It’s like the Legend of Korra Book 4, after Korra reunited with Mako and Asami. In that series, Asami and Korra shared a moment where Asami noticed that Korra had cut her hair and our Avatar blushed at this acknowledgement.

It is literally the same energy. While admittedly an adorable exchange, as I said, I didn’t care for it. As a matter of fact, this moment confirmed my biggest concern for the development of the Bumblebee pair going forward. I was hoping the Writers would’ve taken the time to show these two’s friendship growing a bit more before introducing the potential of romance. Some fans complained about the blatant pandering in favour of actually showing Yang and Blake bettering their friendship last season and it seems like the Writers are adamant on continuing this trend.

Who would’ve expected the CRWBY Writers to take a page from Bryke—the two creative minds who practically created the first most shoehorned LGBT couple I’ve ever seen in an animated series while having the chops to puppet it around as ‘good representation’. While Bryke was praised for what they did with Korrasami since Korrasami was said to be the first LGBT couple in an animated series targeted at children, I didn’t buy into it and didn’t think Bryke deserved their praise at all since Korrasami, in my opinion, was weakly written from the start.

As you can probably tell, this squiggle meister didn’t buy into the Korrasami romance. Not because it was LBGT (as I’ve said before—I have no issue with that at all) but purely because the showrunners didn’t develop the relationship between these two lead girls in a way that felt natural.

Rather than watching a beautiful friendship that grew into a sweet romance over the course of the series runtime, culminating in the birth of a great couple by the show’s finale, instead I watched two characters who were barely friends for two full seasons since they were involved in a ridiculous love triangle only to suddenly become quick besties in the third season. Fast forward 5 years for the show’s final season and now these two girls are in love with each other with their love not being apparent until the final shot of the very last episode. Good shit, right?

Korrasami felt so forced to me in the end which was made even more apparent by the finale. It seems like Bumblebee will be heading in the same direction as Korrasami.

I’m probably digging my own grave here by even talking about the Bees since it’s practically blasphemy now given all the discourse still surrounding this pair and I can only imagine how it is now after today’s episode. But still wanted to give my views on that moment given what it reminded me of.

Marrow’s Semblance:

Getting back on track with things I liked from this episode—Marrow’s semblance man. As I said on Twitter, I really loved the take on Marrow’s unique skill. It’s perfect. He’s a wolf Faunus with a semblance that causes others to listen to his every command. A trained dog treating his opponents to be subservient to him. That is freaking neat as hell. Forget all the other Ace Ops, Marrow’s semblance is the most interesting to me.

What I’m curious about is what the extent of Marrow’s powers are? Does it only work on the Creatures of Grimm since they’re technically mindless monsters acting mostly on instinct or…can it work on people too?

Can Marrow use his semblance to get make another person obey his command? That’s what I want to know. I’m guessing that there is a limit to Marrow’s powers since, we see him using his semblance on the Sentinels earlier in the episode who were probably young Grimm given how easily the group took them down.

However I’m surprised Marrow didn’t use his power on the Geist Grimm. Clover did mention that the Geist they were targeting was an older Grimm. So I figured Marrow’s power wouldn’t work on it even if he tried.

Either way, this episode just made Marrow ten times cooler to me now. The Good Boy continues to impress and he’s definitely the one that stood out to me the most from the Aces.

No Run Forrest, Run:

Whelp, if you saw the episode, y’know what this point means. Forrest, the dreadlocked Robyn supporter we met last episode died by the end of this episode. He was killed off by Tyrian so…RIP Forrest.

I feel so sorry for MurderofBirds since in his last Livestream Discussion on YouTube, he said he was hoping to see more of Forrest.

But in spite of his short time in the story, Forrest’s murder did help me to realize something about Tyrian’s tactics. Since last episode, it was shown by the end that Tyrian has been killing certain people in Mantle. However I couldn’t quite put my finger on a possible pattern in Tyrian’s targets. Now I think I have an idea. I think Tyrian might be targeting Robyn Hill supporters specifically.

On orders from Watts, I think the Scorpion Fauns might be singling out those folks from Mantle who were known to be heavily involved in rallying support for Robyn as another means of turning votes away fromher.

After all, if the supporters of Robyn are suddenly being found murdered thenit could force the People of Mantle from rallying behind Robyn and tank her chances of winning against Jacques.

Now this is just a theory for now. Either way, it’s very, very interesting how the audience receives more and more pieces to the plot with Watts and Tyrian as the episodes go back and it’s only been three chapters.

Very interesting indeed and I’m looking forward to seeing what the next episode drops.

If you love the Bees and you were absolutely over the moon with that little scene from this episode, then that’s perfectly fine, fam. Just don’t mind me with where I stand on this pairing and how the show continues to portray the development of their ‘potential romance’.

Chapter 1: Some secrets cant be kept forever

“Jimin…Are you on Vlive again?” Hoseok sank on the couch beside Jimin. It brought Jimin’s attention to the older boy, he looked breathless probably after a long haul practice that they had today.

Bangtan’s schedule was hectic ever since their comeback last week, even though they were only doing a one week promotion for Spring Day alongside Not Today.

It was more challenging to wrap up promotion in one week knowing they needed to focus on their Wings tour after this. They were busy promoting new songs at music shows and it didn’t end with that, they still needed to attend meet and greet after each show ended.

Yesterday was their second last fansign in Sincheon. As soon as Music core live broadcast ended, Bangtan went straight to their Sincheon fansign. It was indeed tiring, as it drained their energy. However, the overwhelming support from Army that they received all these years was everything if they were to compare with their fatigue.

Jimin gave Hoseok a playful smile “I saw the comment you left about me. Since Armys are making fuss about it on twitter, I decided to fire you back” he smug.

“NO NO WHAT DID YOU SAY NOW JIMINIE?” Hoseok shrieked dramatically and pulled out his phone. Jimin shoved his wet towel in Hoseok’s face, walking up leaving the guy dumfounded. He approached busy Jungkook who seemed engrossed packing his bottle and wet towel inside his bag pack.

“Kkukkiee~~ When are we leaving?” he stretched a little.

Jungkook looked up at Jimin, while fixing his wet bangs aside “In five minutes, other hyungs are waiting for us at the lobby. We still have one last stage tomorrow then we are off to our tour” he stifled his yawn.

Jimin threw his arm around Jungkook “I will make sure to flirt you during our fansign tomorrow” he teased him while wiggling his eyebrows. He frowned in disagreement as he rose from his seat, leaving Jimin no choice but to pull his head between his arms again.

“You are not doing that. Didn’t you see there are tons of JiKook rumours circulating around?” he eyed Jimin with his not so scary glare.

Jimin shrugged with lips lower lips poked out a little “ I like JiKook. That is what we call a legit fan service. I heard Armys shipped you with everyone, but we are the popular one kkuk ah~~” Jungkook cringed in annoyance disliking the idea of them being a real thing.

“Oh god, don’t you see I am already an adult. I need to appear manly, not turning me into a baby. Your baby” he palmed Jimin’s face, pushing him away from his body. Jungkook walked ahead Jimin exiting the room to find others.

Jimin chuckled playfully “That hurts Jungkook. I thought I am your favourite hyung” he grabbed his stuff on the table and strutted after Jungkook.

Before heading out Jimin called out Hoseok “Hobiee we are going home, quick!”

Yeoul’s shift ended an hour ago, and she was still wandering in the market doing her grocery shopping. It had become her habit every time she received her wages, she would do grocery shopping for that particular month. That was the least thing she could do, since she stayed with her mother and her five years old son, Minyeoul.

She got pregnant at a very young age, but she was not ashamed of it. Yeoul would never be ashamed of having Minyeoul at this age. Minyeoul was the fruit of love between two individuals as well as the extension of her life.

Her mother was upset upon finding out the truth behind her pregnancy and she obviously couldn’t accept the fact that her daughter life would turn out that way for having a baby at such young age. But, she never despised Yeoul. Instead, she had become the biggest supporter in Yeoul’s life. Her mother understood the sacrifice that she made to raise Minyeoul’s alone without a father.

It would be a lie if Yeoul didn’t have the urge to tell the father of his son about Minyeoul’s existence, but she knew it was impossible. Her sanity was still there. She did not want to ruin anyone’s life especially the man that he loved few years ago. He was in no position to be a father just yet. He had a better life, a life that she couldn’t touch.

Yeoul made a sharp turn to the left while pushing the shopping cart grabbing the last item in her list, and headed to the counter. After she paid all the stuffs she bought, she exited the market making her way back home.

She felt a warm presence beside her “Lee Taehwan..Didn’t I warn to stop stalking me?” she raised her eyebrows with a frown. Taehwan’s lips broke into a wide smile as he raised both of his hand in defeat.

“Na Yeoul, do I have to remind you this is my route back to my house?” Yeoul rolled her eyes, nudging his torso with her elbows. Taehwan was definitely taller than her; if people were to compare their size Yeoul was so tiny and small beside him.

Taehwan took the shopping bags from Yeoul, before she could say anything he gave her a meaningful gaze with a nod. Yeoul knew it was a waste of time to fight Taehwan, he was stubborn and wouldn’t listen to her. Therefore, she was immune.

“I thought your shift ended three hours ago? Did you purposely lurk around to walk me home” Yeoul diligently studied his handsome face waiting for answer. She was aware of his feelings for her, but she was not ready to open up to anyone just yet.

Her meeting with Taehwan two years ago was like a fate. If it weren’t for Taehwan, she had no idea if Minyeoul could live his life like a normal child now. So she owed him big time. Despite the confession that he made few months ago, it didn’t put them in awkward situation. Taehwan made it clear that he would wait for her answer until she was ready to accept him.

Yeoul was not pressured but still she felt bad to see him around her without having definite answers from her. She did not want to get tangle in messy love life again; all she cared at the moment was to raise Minyeoul.

“Aww I think I am falling for you again Yeoul-ah. How did you know my shift ended three hours ago?” he had this cheeky smile on his face teasing Yeoul.

She snickered “Do I have to remind you that you practically tell me everything to the extent when your shift ends every day Mr Lee” she shook her head.

Taehwan used his free hand to pat his chest “Can you hear my fiery heartbeat Yeoul” she smacked his arm cringing over his cheesiness but she laughed it off. She was used to his little tease so she had no complained.

They exchanged stories along the way, making fun of each other and she was no longer tired after the long shift today. It took them 20 minutes of walking to reach her place; Yeoul took the shopping bags from Taehwan and flashed a thank you smile for accompanying her.

“Thank you and you can go home now!” she grinned while hushing him away.

“You are no fun seriously. Fine, see you tomorrow Yeoul” he shot her a playful wink before walking away. She watched his body disappeared in the darkness and made her way inside. To her surprise, her ears were greeted with Minyeoul’s loud cries.

She placed the shopping bags on floor and quickly went to the living room “Minyeoul ah.. why are you crying?” crouching down beside the little boy, she pulled him into a hug.

“Mommy…” he sobbed in her shoulder and his cries got louder.

Yeoul blinked in confusion as she averted her eyes to where her mother sat “After I picked him up from the kindergarten, he was asking me about him” she heard her mother purposely stressed the ‘him’ part.

She flinched uncomfortably “Na Minyeoul… Tell me, why you are crying?” she stroked his cheeks wiping away the tears. Yeoul didn’t take her eyes from Minyeoul even though she feared of what might come out from that kid mouth.

“I miss…daddy” he sobbed softly. Yeoul heaved a heavy sigh as a small smile spread on her mother’s lips. It had been months since they last talked about him, but this bound to happen sooner. Therefore, they were always ready to hear this from him.

Minyeoul rubbed his red nose with his small hand and continue “My friend said daddy doesn’t love me anymore. That is why he doesn’t pick me up at school” he sniffed.

Yeoul softened to see her son cried this hard even though it wasn’t the first time he looked for his father. She had to make up tons of excuses to calm him down back then and it was not easy to lie to your own child.

“Minyeoul.. Your daddy really loves you; didn’t I tell you he’s busy? Remember we watched him together on television. Isn’t he look cool?” she smiled softly, stroking his hair.

Innocent Minyeoul nodded with a pout “But.. you promise to bring me meet daddy. Can I meet him soon?” tears started to well up in his eyes again. She knew he would cry again if she made up more excuses this time.

Even though, it had been five years since they last saw each other Yeoul never missed any day missing him and following his new updates. She was happy to see his success. And, she was not sure bringing Minyeoul meeting him would be a good idea.

She remembered there would be a fansign held tomorrow, before he left the country for an overseas tour. Yeoul had no choice but to promise Minyeoul he would bring him to meet his father tomorrow.

“Will you stop crying if mommy promises to bring you meet daddy tomorrow?” Minyeoul round eyes lit up as he clasped both of his hand together. Her mother gave her a hard stare as she didn’t mean to decide this without her consult.

“We will meet daddy for real tomorrow?” his cute grin melted her heart.

She nodded with a genuine smile “ Yes we will met daddy tomorrow. So Yeoulie want to draw something for daddy? So we can give him the present tomorrow” she tapped his nose softly. Minyeoul jumped while clapping his hand giddily, he then ran into his room leaving with cute giggle.

It was a heavy silence between the two women until her mother broke it with a deep sigh.

“Yeoul-ah, are you sure you are ready to bring Minyeoul to see him?” she gave her daughter a concern look.

As a mother she didn’t want to see her hurting again, Yeoul had gone through a lot of things in life. And, at the age of eighteen she didn’t even have a normal life like a normal girl around her age. She had to take care of her child without a husband.

Yeoul took a seat beside her and took both of her hands in hers “Omma.. Don’t worry, it will be fine. He will not know about Minyeoul. I will find way to tell Minyeoul. We will be seeing him as a fan tomorrow” she was smiling on the outside but her belly twitched in fear.

Years passed since they last saw each other and she was not sure if she had the strength to face him this soon. But, she couldn’t keep on lying to her own son. She didn’t want to tell Minyeoul the truth about him. However a year ago when they were watching his performance together the younger kid was so excited to see him on screen.

Without she realized smart Minyeoul questioned her about his father and it hit her hard. She lied all over again to cover up the truth until that one day she told Minyeoul about him. Ever since then, Minyeoul would watch his performance, his appearance in reality show and she even bought all the albums that he released to distract Minyeoul from asking more questions.

Her mother gave her a light squish with an encouraging smile “You have all my support Yeoul-ah. At least, get that poor boy meets his father. Even though you have to lie to him again because Minyeoul has the right to meet him” she sighed softly.

It seemed like she couldn’t hit the bed early tonight, she had to find information about the fansign and a way to participate it. She never left her hometown and this would be her first time to leave Busan. Yeoul would do anything to keep her son happy even she had through all the troubles.
