My less popular opinion (and what I believe to be implied by the art in Lost Days) is that rather than waking up in a fully grown body Jason didn’t actually complete his puberty until after his Lazarus pit dip while he was on his murder tour. Imagine you’re tied up in a basement in Berlin getting interrogated by a teenager and his voice is cracking the entire time and if you laugh he’s going to shoot you

#Late puberty Jason truthers rise #Egon calling up Talia like ‘did you send me a middle schooler what is this’. ‘He’s technically high school aged actually’#he would’ve been like 18 when he finally regained consciousness but the way he’s drawn could easily be mistaken for 15 #I know people love the body dysmorphia angst of Jason waking up big but I offer you this: Jason wakes up looking basically the same to a #world that has moved on without him and is unrecognizable. His death/injuries stunted him he existed for years in a state of suspension #while the world passed him by. He was on pause while everyone kept moving on and he didn’t get unpaused until the Lazarus pit and he has #to scramble to catch up. He’s actually 18 but the last thing he remembers is being 15 and his body reflects this state #and then once his mind is finally back online puberty hits him like a truck. Just look at the difference between how Jason is drawn #immediately after his dip in the Lazarus pit vs the end of lost days when his training arc is over #It implies it could’ve been multiple years but in order to fit with the timeline of other comics I personally don’t think it #would’ve been that long. I think he just sprouted up like a weed #Jason Todd #dc #I think Jason is technically still growing by the time he’s red hood. I offer the frankly hilarious scenario of zenos and estinien having to work together (probably because of tataru) and a little bit of headcanon-ing I have in regards to the one main issue they run in to when theyre a duo.

Hello there! I discovered your blog not too long ago and just want to say I am enamored with your character designs and world building! Call me basic, but I'm quite fond of Theo; which begs the question: since Theo's mom is an ermine and his dad is a rat, is he technically a hybrid? Or is he genetically speaking a "pure" rat? If not, are there any physical traits that might separate from a typical rat? Pardon the numerous questions; love your work!

Interesting question! Putting Theo and his his father side-by-side can help elucidate this. Leonard is what you'd call a "normal" rat, but Theo isn't a normal anything.

Comparing the two, Theo has some ermine-like traits: his ears are slightly fuzzy instead of bald, and he has sharp, carnivorous teeth in addition to his more ratlike incisors. Of course, he a variety of other odd attributes, which make it harder to discern if these anomalous features are due to hybridization precisely or myriad other genetic quirks.

Theo has many peculiarities that aren't hybrid traits, but a mix of congenital health conditions (his supernumerary teeth and dwarfism, for example) and what I'd call "basal traits," sort of animalistic throwback features that people usually lack (his more backwards-shifted foramen magnum, which gives him a slightly hunched posture when upright, or his lack of hair). He's also just kind of ugly. These things separate him not just from your "typical" rat-people, but most people in general.

To circle back and answer your question: Theo wasn't identified as a hybrid when he was born, even though you could make the argument that he qualifies. Though hybrids don't face the same degree of stigma in the modern era as they did in the time of the Old Kingdoms, they do still face some scrutiny. Leonard and Jo could get away with identifying Theo as "just" a rat since his other more blatant issues obfuscate any hybridization, which frees him of at least one potentially embarrassing label when he already has plenty stacked on him.

That said, even if he goes along with the non-hybrid label, Theo secretly prefers thinking of himself as having hybridized ermine traits. Probably more of them than he actually has. It's a mommy issue/daddy issue thing.

#i would say that considering what a weirdo he is - liking theo isn't basic. it is ADVANCED #advanced WHAT exactly - i don't know #theo #this isn't an accurate height different for them btw - theo only comes up to leonard's shoulder #also having two different species as parents doesn't guarantee hybrid offspring - leonard has one rat parent and one non-rat parent #and he is “just” a rat - most people born from different-species parents just take after one species-wise #ALSO another tell of some hybrids -- poor health -- also fails to identify theo as one because the Norths are sickly people in general #asks #amaranthine #my draws
