kyle doesn’t tell you when he’s back from deployment.
one day you’ll be waiting at a cross walk when you suddenly feel a tap on your left shoulder. you’ll turn but nothings there and then you feel it. a firm, warm hand grabbing your right one.
he’s on your right, interlacing your fingers and giving you a lopsided smile.
“miss me?”

「𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆: 𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐒𝐓, 𝐍𝐎 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐓」
Hello, Y/n!
How are you doing, My Love? I know you’re over at your family’s, but I can’t help but worry. I’m just really nervous for you and our little girl. The hashira training is going well. I do miss you though! It’s cold without you next to me.
Tanjiro made me spend more time with his other friends. There’s a weird kid who seems obsessed with Tanjiro’s little sister Nezuko, and a guy who wears a boar head. The two can NOT stop screaming, but it’s nice. It feels full in one way, almost like if I was lost, as long as I can hear their bicker, I know I’d be safe. Like, I’m not really alone. I still miss you a lot. I’m not alone, but I feel a bit lonely without you.
I went to Lady Kocho’s estate for my annual checkup. Did you know Aoi’s growing vegetables? She promised that she’ll let me take some back to you when I’m done with training! I’m at the last stage, so I promise I’ll be over as soon as I can! I’ll make all the food, as much as you want. You already do so much just by simply carrying our baby girl and I’m so proud of you. I can’t even believe it myself. Our little baby will be here with us in less than 2 months.
I really regret being unable to stay with you through this stage. I wish I could hold your hair back when you have morning sickness, and despite how much I complain about it myself, I miss massaging your feet. Make sure to stay in bed rest like you’re supposed to!
The demon attacks have significantly reduced, and although it leaves a lot of time for us to train and grow stronger, I can’t sleep properly. I’m scared, My Love. I wish I was there to protect you. Remember the thunders? I still think about it a lot. It was one of the first nights we spent together. You were so scared and clung to me. I think that triggered something in me to a point I feel discomfort when I’m not with you at all times. I wish I could be of arm’s length to you.
I’m going to finish this entire thing as soon as I can. I had to run a few errands recently during one of my breaks, and I came across a shop which sold the most adorable baby clothes. I want to go to it with you before all the good stuff is taken. Imagine our little baby running around in a red kimono as tiny as hers.
It’s late right now, and I’m really tired. I’m saving all the stories so I can tell them to you when I come back. I’m going to go to bed, My Love. Remember, I’m away physically, but I’m still with you. We’re under the same stars.
Goodnight, Y/n. I love you so much, forever and always. Please tell our baby that her papa also loves her beyond worlds and he’s really sorry he can’t be there to tell her himself. I really love you two. Sleep tight♥︎
Your One and Only Darling Husband
Genya Shinazugawa
How many times have you read that same letter? Too many times. You lost count. But it wasn’t enough, somehow.
You read it again so many times you memorised the whole thing. Hell, you even wrote it down so many times you perfected his handwriting on it.
You just missed him so much.
“Ma.”
A tiny hand touched your cheek where a fresh tear was rolling on.
You looked down and looked at your 1 year old daughter, Hana, gazing up at you with her father’s eyes. It was so funny how the way she looked at you was exactly the same as how Genya looked at you.
“Hey, baby.” You smiled, quickly wiping your tears before kissing her forehead. “Sorry.. mama just misses papa so much.”
Hana toyed with your kimono slightly. She took interest in the smooth silk.
You leaned back on the pillar of the porch on your backyard of the house you and Genya purchased when you two were newlyweds. The night sky was pretty, and luckily enough, the stars were all visible.
“Hana, baby.” You kissed your daughter’s cheek to get her attention before gently turning around and slowly guiding her head up, letting her look at the stars.
“Whenever your papa was away, he always said that he was never truly away because we were under the same stars. Smart, isn’t he?” You smiled. Hana was gazing at the stars with her mouth slightly ajar in awe, her gaze fixed on one particular star which shone brighter.
“You see that? That star?” You whispered quietly. “That’s papa. He’s up there, looking over us~ As long as he’s there, we’re safe.” Tears started to fill your eyes again, but you fought them back. “He loved us so much that he became a star so he could protect us. Heroic, isn’t it?”
You turned your daughter to face you again before cradling her against your chest.
“Your uncle, Sanemi..” you grunted slightly as you stood up and started walking inside. “He’s coming over tomorrow. He’s going to tell you all about your father~ So get some rest, okay?”
It barely took any effort to lull your baby to sleep. You simply bounced her a bit and she was out cold.
Hana had her own separate crib, but in the same room as yours. You kept her warm and all snuggled up in her blankets before getting in the futon yourself.
You read Genya’s letter from habit. It had become a tradition to do so every night, and let one singular tear fall on the paper.
You read the letter for the nth time as the nth tear fell on the paper.
“Damn right you’re my one and only…”

Scarborough Fair: 8/?
I apologize for the long wait for this chapter! We just moved into a new house, and at first we didn't have internet. I also felt that every spare moment needed to be spent unpacking and getting the house all set up. I finally escaped to Barnes and Noble to write because I just can't do it at home right now! Anyways, I hope the contents of this chapter make it up to you. We're getting to the good stuff ;)
Is the situation Emma is in as a pregnant foster teen accurate? I really have no idea, but it's in the book Impossible that this is based on. I also have no idea if you can make a shirt like that. Again, I'm going by the book Impossible. I'm not following it exactly, but those two plot points were kind of important, so I left them in. Anyways, things are going to keep getting steamier from here on out, though our lovers are far from out of danger. Plus, we've still got Snow, David, and their kingdom out there somewhere, so hang on, folks! It's gonna be a romantic yet bumpy ride.
Summary: Seventeen-year-old Emma Swan has had a charmed life, despite being a foster child. She has a wonderful family who loves her, and the best friends in the world. The only thing that mars her idyllic existence is her birth mother: a homeless woman who mutters nonsensical rhymes and claims to be Snow White. One fateful night, however, Emma’s world is shattered. Perhaps her mother’s rhymes aren’t nonsense after all.
Rated: M for date rape, dubious consent, teen pregnancy, and sexy times (the good kind!)
Words: Over 3k in this chapter

Chapter Eight:
The entire family jumped right in to help Emma solve the riddle that had defeated her mother. Liam dove back into every bit of research he had accumulated about the song Scarborough Fair. He and Ingrid met with the art professor he had mentioned who had done her dissertation on textiles. Elsa talked to the scientists on board ship and zoomed with the family every single day. Even Anna found her niche, taking Emma to the library and helping her check out every book available about pregnancy and childbirth.
And Killian? He was the rock she could lean on. The one who made her smile or laugh just when things got too heavy. He also ran whatever errands he needed to: taking Emma to her first prenatal appointment, shopping for a long list of different types of fabrics at the craft store to make this impossible shirt, and going for a late night ice cream run when Emma’s cravings started. In some ways, nothing changed.
Yet his declaration of love still hung in the air. He hadn’t brought it up again, hadn’t treated her any differently, hadn’t asked her on a date or tried to get physical. He was giving her space to decide what she wanted, and it honestly was the sweetest thing anyone had ever done for her.
At the same time, Emma was confused. She had always loved Killian, of course. But was it romantic love? She could even admit she had been physically attracted to him at times, but did that mean she was in love with him? Did she even want something like that right now, when she was processing having a kid of all things and still healing from a violent rape? Did Killian fully understand what he would be getting himself into? Did she want to burden him with all her crap?
She was just completely and utterly confused.
Then, as if she didn’t have enough to worry about, Ingrid came home one day from work visibly shaken. The entire family stilled in the process of getting dinner on the table when they saw her standing in the kitchen, her face ashen.
“What is it?” Liam asked, his voice filled with dread.
“Emma,” she said, her voice choking on her foster daughter’s name, “Liam and I need to talk to you. Immediately.”
Killian found Emma later, sobbing in her bed. When she poured it all out to him, he was livid.
“This is absolute shit! I can’t believe they would do that!”
“They would, and they can,” Emma explained as she hugged her pillow to her torso. “Because I’m still technically in foster care, my baby automatically is, too.”
“They can’t just take it away from you!”
Emma shrugged. “Ingrid and Liam are no longer licensed to take in infants. I either have to find somewhere else to live, or my baby will be put in a different foster home.”
“Can’t they just get licensed?”
Emma shook her head. “It’s a year-long process of paperwork and visitations from social workers. I’m due in five months! Killian, what am I going to do? Where am I going to go?”
She began to sob again, and when Killian eased into the bed next to her and put his arms around her, he could feel the small swell at her abdomen where her baby was growing. He felt a strong desire to protect them both.
“We won’t let them take you or the baby away from us. We’re a family.”
“That’s what your brother said. Exactly.”
Killian chuckled. “Of course he did.”
“But Killian,” she choked out, “what happens if I don’t solve the riddle? I was comforted at least knowing my baby would be safe and raised by Ingrid and Liam, but now . . .”
She sobbed again against his chest, and he held her tight. “I won’t let that happen,” he vowed. “You aren’t going to go mad, Emma, you won’t. We’ll solve this. All of it. Together.”
*************************************************************************
The only time Emma’s family ever used the formal dining room was on Thanksgiving. Someone always had to actually dust the table and air out the room, but Ingrid always insisted they “do Thanksgiving right,” even down to the old chipped china plates with the maple leaf border.
So it felt odd to be in here now with the warm summer sun spilling through the window and shining on the ancient area rug. Assorted fabrics littered the table and a sewing mannequin stood in the corner, the headless and limbless torso sending an ominous shiver down Emma’s spine.
“So this one is probably our best bet,” Ingrid explained.
She cradled the bundle of scratchy, thick fabric and held it out to Emma who reached out and ran her hand over the coarse woolen felt.
“That feels like it would make the most uncomfortable shirt in the history of the world.”
Ingrid shrugged. “Does it really matter? You wet this fabric, mold it to that torso over there, and according to Dr. Freemont, when it dries, it will hold together.”
Emma took the fabric and nodded. “So then we have it. A shirt made without needle or seam.”
“Who’s gonna wear it, though?”
Ingrid and Emma whirled around at the sound of Killian’s voice. Emma’s mouth went dry immediately. He stood there, his hair wet with sweat, and his chest bare. Emma couldn’t stop staring at it. She used to think chest hair was gross. She was wrong. Killian’s was thick and dark, and it set her pulse pounding. Realizing just how long she’d been ogling him, she dragged her gaze up to his face. He gave her a knowing grin as he lifted a carton of milk to his mouth and took a swig.
“Where the hell is your shirt?” Emma snapped.
“Where the hell is your glass,” Ingrid added drily. “You’re not the only one who might like some milk, you know.”
“I just got home from work, and I’m hot,” Killian responded, as if that explained everything.
Emma tried really, really hard not to think of the other connotation of the word hot, but she was failing. Killian hadn’t brought up his declaration since that fateful dinner last week, and Emma was still trying to process it. Yet ever since, she was hyper aware of Killian’s presence.
His lack of a shirt didn’t help, either.
“Pour that milk in a glass, Killian, I’m not kidding,” Ingrid said in her rarely used mom voice.
“Sure,” Killian said, sauntering back towards the kitchen. He gave Emma one more backwards glance with a delighted smirk on his face. Emma’s face heated several degrees.
“I think I know what he means, though,” Ingrid sighed.
“What?” Emma asked, her head still a little fuzzy.
“Is it really a shirt unless someone actually wears it?”
Emma sighed in exasperation. “So have someone wear it.”
“I’ll do it.”
They whirled back around to find Killian standing in the doorway again. He had a glass of milk in one hand and a stack of Oreos in the other. He still hadn’t donned a shirt. Emma found herself staring again, admiring the way a summer working in construction had toned his muscles. She dropped the fabric she’d been clutching in her hands and swore under her breath as it rolled across the floor. Killian smirked at her, and she wasn’t sure if she wanted to slap it off his face or kiss him senseless.
“Well,” Ingrid said, seemingly oblivious to the sexual tension in the room, “if Killian’s going to wear it, then that makes things a little more complicated.”
“Why?” Emma and Killian asked simultaneously. He had stepped further into the room, and his close proximity almost made Emma lose hold of the fabric she’d just stooped to pick up.
“Well, if we mold the shirt to that torso over there, and it dries, I don’t think it will fit him.”
“So measure me,” Killian said, taking a bite of a cookie. His back was to Emma now as he addressed Ingrid, and it was just as distracting as the front of him. He had freckles across his shoulders, and a few along the small of his back.
“That won’t work.” Ingrid shook her head. “The fabric doesn’t work that way. Not if we’re trying to make it without needle or seam. We’ll have to mold it to your body.”
Emma gave a little squeak at Ingrid’s words and nearly dropped the fabric all over again. To Killian’s credit, he didn’t acknowledge her reaction.
“What would that entail?” he asked casually, taking a sip of his milk.
“I’m not sure,” Ingrid mused, tapping her finger on her chin.
Silence fell for a moment, the only sounds from Killian snacking on his milk and cookies. Then Ingrid suddenly clapped her hands together.
“I’ve got it! Duct tape!”
Killian’s eyes widened. “If you wrap me in duct tape, you’ll never get it off. Not without taking my skin with it.”
“You could wear a shirt,” Emma said.
“You made that clear already,” Killian smirked at her. “I told you, I’m hot.”
Emma rolled her eyes. “I mean for the duct tape. You wear a white undershirt, I wrap it in tape, then I can put the shirt, molded to your torso, on the mannequin. Then I make the shirt.”
“You’d need to be wearing the shirt when she tapes it,” Ingrid clarified.
“I figured that,” Killian nodded.
Emma’s throat went suddenly dry. She’d have to put her hands on his body. She’d have to be in extremely close proximity to him. She was equal parts giddy at the thought and terrified. She was light-headed just thinking about it.
“Perfect,” Killian announced with a grin. “When do we start?”
Emma wanted to ask Ingrid if she would do it for her, but she couldn’t risk that. The riddle implied that Emma had to make the shirt herself. She steeled herself and turned to Killian.
“Shower so you don’t stink, and then we’ll get to work.”
“As you wish,” he told her with a mock bow before he turned from the room.
Ingrid, still oblivious to the fact that Emma was practically swooning and trembling simultaneously, turned away from the dining room table and grabbed her purse from a nearby chair.
“Since you’ve got this under control, I’ll head to the supermarket. Anything you need?”
Slightly dazed, Emma managed to shake her head “no.”
“Great, I’ll see you kids later.”
In the kitchen, Killian rinsed his dirty glass and put it in the dishwasher. He smiled to himself as he headed up the stairs. He hadn’t pressed Emma in any way since his declaration. Whether she shared his feelings or not, he’d told himself, he would still be there for her. Yet the way she’d reacted to him just now gave him hope. Maybe he would win her heart after all.
*******************************************************************************************
“Sit right here,” Emma instructed, pointing to the dinner room chair directly in front of her. Killian obeyed, and when he looked up at her, his eyes didn’t hold teasing as she’d expected. They were tender and vulnerable. Emma swallowed nervously.
“Don’t be nervous,” he told her.
“I’m not,” she scoffed.
“You’re holding that roll of tape so hard, your knuckles are turning white.”
Emma scowled at him and pulled a long strip of tape from the roll. He blanched, and she laughed.
“Don’t worry, I won’t hurt you,” she told him.
He swallowed, and she followed the motion of his adam’s apple. She licked her lips as she drew closer, touching his arm gently as she raised it.
“I’ll start with the sleeves,” she explained unnecessarily.
She had to slip her fingers beneath the fabric to make sure she didn’t accidentally tape his skin. She thought she heard an intake of breath from his throat as her fingers skimmed his bicep, but maybe she’d imagined it. She wound the tape around and around the sleeve of his shirt, but when she began to wrap it around his shoulder blade, she had to step closer to him. He spread his legs to allow it, and she leaned over him, her breasts pressing against his collarbone. The sharpness of breath this time was impossible to ignore. She paused and locked eyes with him - he face was so close to hers . . .
“Did I hurt you?”
He pressed his lips together and shook his head, so she continued. Was his breathing becoming shallow, or was that her? Was that his heart thumping so fast, or her own? When she wrapped the tape around his chest, she could feel a “thump, thump” beneath her palm.
“Um, Emma, give me a second.”
Killian grabbed a throw pillow from the wingback chair in the corner of the dining room then resumed his seat. He clutched the pillow in his lap, and his face flamed all the way to the tips of his ears.
“Oh,” Emma breathed softly.
Killian swallowed thickly. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be,” Emma said, her own cheeks warm.
“I just don’t want to freak you out . . . or scare you or anything. You know, because . . . because of him.”
Emma shook her head, tendrils of hair brushing her cheeks where they fell from the messy bun on the top of her head. She bit her lip as she got lost in his eyes; darker than usual and stormy. She stepped close again, between his legs, and she almost laughed when he clutched the pillow tighter.
“Emma,” he groaned, his eyes falling shut.
“I’m glad,” she said, her own voice deep and trembling, “that I have that effect on you.”
“You do?”
He opened his eyes, and she nodded. Her hands shook as she lifted them and rested them upon his temples. She threaded her fingers through his hair. It was softer than she had imagined. He tipped his head back and watched her intently. She thought of him the other night, stating so matter-of-factly that he loved her. He had said it as something unshakable and infallible. Something as predictable and steady as the seasons. Then they had gone on as they always had, with no demands that she respond to his declaration in any way.
“And you could never scare me, Killian,” she clarified.
Then, suddenly, she was kissing him. She was kissing Killian in the middle of the dining room. His torso was half wrapped in duct tape, he was helping her make this crazy, ridiculous, magical shirt . . .
And she was kissing him. He was kissing her back. He was kissing her back after declaring his love for her at the kitchen table. He was kissing her thoroughly, his tongue exploring her mouth, even though she hadn’t said it back. Or maybe it didn’t matter, she wasn’t sure. After all, this was only the second boy she’d ever kissed. But no, she wasn’t going to think about that or him. Not when Killian was kissing her within an inch of her life.
The pillow he was clutching fell to the floor when he wrapped his arms around her, and Emma could feel his arousal through his jeans and pressing into her. For a split second, fear tried to grab hold of her, but it was banished quickly. He wouldn’t just take her; he wasn’t like that.
Killian pulled away, and Emma was shocked to hear a whimper slip past her lips, especially when he stood up from the chair and took a step back. Why was he pulling away, when they - oh.
He was sinking down on one knee, and she suddenly wondered if she were dreaming. It all felt so surreal, and he was still half wrapped in duct tape. Maybe Snow had whacked her in the head with one of those bottles after all, and all this time she’d been in a coma at the hospital. It would explain so much, honestly.
“Emma,” he said, (and were those tears gathering in his eyes?), “I know this is a lot to ask of you, since you haven’t even told me yet how you feel about me. And this is something I think I always knew I would do eventually, just not now.”
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath before opening them and continuing. His words reverberated in her soul, and she knew he was right, they were always going to arrive here, somehow. She knew it the same way she knew her own reflection.
“But with everything going on, I don’t want to wait. I know you face an uncertain future, Emma, but I always want to be by your side. So, will you marry me?” He didn’t even pause for her answer, but plunged ahead. “It makes so much sense, if you think about it. I mean, we’re going to break this curse, Emma, we will. We won’t give up, ever. But, I know you worry, and if I’m your husband, you won’t have to. You’ll know I’ll be there for the baby. It will be mine, legally. It won’t end up in foster care. Not that anything’s going to happen to you, I swear to you it won’t, but if I can ease your burden . . .”
He trailed off, and Emma sank to her knees right along with him, reaching out to cup his face in her hands.
“And if I do go insane -”
“You won’t!”
“But if we don’t break the curse . . .”
“I’ll take care of you,” he said solemnly, “always and forever.”
It would be selfish of her, she knew that it would, to ask that of him. Nevertheless, his vow felt like the sun breaking through the darkest of clouds, and she knew she couldn’t refuse his gift. Her hands slipped down his shoulders, then his arms, and she clasped his hands tightly in hers.
“I love you.”
It wasn’t, she discovered, difficult to say. It was just so true, so undeniable, like how she knew the sun would come up each morning. His smile was bright and blinding, and she smiled too at the sight of his dimples. They had been so rare lately.
“Does that mean yes?” he asked her teasingly.
A tear slipped down her face, and she found she couldn’t speak. She nodded, and he understood. Everyone would say they were crazy, of course. He was nineteen, and she was seventeen. It was absolutely insane. Ingrid and Liam wouldn’t like it, she was sure, but she also knew they wouldn’t stop them.
He dried her tears with his thumb, then traced her lips before kissing her tenderly. The kiss continued as they clung to one another in blissful, shining faith and hope. In that moment, she believed him: They would break the curse.
Emma and Killian were so wrapped up in one another, they didn’t notice the slight shaking of the house or the rainbow colored light that swept through the room.
**************************************************
It wasn’t the first time Robert Gold had entered the Swan/Jones home when the family was gone. He had explored every nook and cranny, flipped through photographs, smelled their clothes. He knew this family; every weakness to be exploited had been sifted and examined.
Yet the house had never protested like it did today, and when he turned towards the dining room, he could clearly see why.
It was a shirt. Hideous, smelly, and dripping wet, but a shirt nonetheless. When it dried, it could even be worn.
“Well, well, well,” he muttered, reaching out a hand towards it.
Almost immediately, he recoiled, the shirt burning him before he’d even grazed it. Magic radiated from it. The glamor spell he always wore faded, and his hands turned a scaly green, nails yellowed and gnarled at each finger tip. It wasn’t just the shirt, he realized. The entire dining room reeked with the magic, and he was in pain from the top of his head to the bottom of his feet.
“Of course you’re in pain, Dark One.”
He writhed on the ground and cried out as a much younger face pulled away from his ancient, twisted one.
“Stop fighting me!”
“I’m doing all this for you, son!”
“Are you, Papa?”
“I got her for you, didn’t I?”
“But I can’t keep her!”
The Dark One could no longer hold onto the shared body, and the younger man stood to his feet, opened the front door, and walked out onto the sidewalk. Neal Cassidy was the name he preferred in this realm, a name that Rumplestiltskin hated. Baelfire was his name: a strong, powerful name.
“Oh Papa,” Baelfire - Neal - whispered, “settle down and cooperate.”
“You know I’ll take over again eventually.”
Neal didn’t argue. Instead he clenched his jaw and gritted his next words through his teeth.
“This won’t work forever. You’re losing, and you know it.”
“They only finished the first task. They’ll never complete the rest. Not in time, anyway.”
“But that magic - you know exactly what that was.”
Ah yes, he did. True love. He wasn’t worried. The Dark One had defeated true love before, and he would do it again.

Ficlet prompt: acofaf, any characters, an accidental meeting in the mortal realm
(I am not entirely sure that by "any characters" you meant "Chirp and Suntar running into each other," but this scene got stuck in my head and here we are!)
Chirp is getting very good at running errands, if she does say so herself. Why, she hasn’t brought back a tisane made of dewdrops and starflowers when Esmé just asked for bread and wine in months, or possibly weeks (she always does get those two mixed up, in the mortal realms, time always does move so strangely, straight ahead with no pauses or skipping). She even remembers to pay with money, most times! She’s practically indistinguishable from a mortal, really, nobody at any of the markets she visits has ever said otherwise.
(It does possibly help that Chirp likes to go to all sorts of markets, because she never knows when one will have some special treat for Peep or Esmé. The last time Squak came to visit they traveled for ages and brought back some very exciting things. Peep does keep asking for that candy again, Chirp had better find a way back soon. Not being able to fly on her own is very inconvenient.)
Today, Chirp is going to be especially good at errands, because she’s going to deal with an interloper. There’s another fairy in the market.
It’s not, of course, the first time. Coming to the mortal realm isn’t exactly a fad, though anything the Lords of the Wing do becomes fashionable very quickly—it takes bravery, to visit the mortal realm when Binx is very honest about what happened to the Court of Craft. Still, Andhera and Binx and the real Gwyndolin and their funny mortal friends have come to tea a time or two, and Squak visits with a lover or two at times, and even Hob and Rue have come by.
This isn’t any of Chirp’s friends. That’s clear from the glare she’s getting from behind the glamour the fairy is wearing. They’ve gone for being an old woman in a threadbare cloak, which is so traditional as to be cliché, but they’re not very good at hiding there’s something odd about them, so the bowl they’ve set up looking for money is empty.
If Chirp has an enemy this close to Peep and Esmé, she wants to know who, and she goes over with a coin and drops it in the bowl. “Here for me? Or just passing through?”
“I’d have avoided this place if I’d known your shadow had ever touched it,” says Princess Suntar. “I’m begging for scraps, which you reduced me to. My beloved betrothed.”
That’s probably fair, though Chirp would contest that she was much nicer than Suntar deserved, under the circumstances. “Is that my fault? Plenty of fairies find their way here and thrive. Those of us who don’t think we’re too good to make friends with mortals, anyway.”
“Friends? With these thieves?” Suntar snorts. It is very unattractive, and Chirp would tell her so, except she suspects if Suntar gets too mad at her there might be some extremely boring swearing of vengeance and then Peep and Esmé might be in danger. Before the silence can stretch, Suntar gives her a keen look. “You didn’t push me. You know I’ve got as little power in our realm as I do here, thanks to my dear brother, but I won’t risk starving or disappearing, there. If you help me to the portal, I’ll owe you a debt.”
A debt from a princess of a powerful court, even a disgraced one, could come in handy. “The kind of debt where I could trust that you wouldn’t turn around and try closing the portal again?” Suntar may have been doing it for power, but she believes in it too, if she’s still calling the mortals thieves. “No. Not yet.”
“If not now, when?”
It’s not Chirp’s place to teach people lessons. That’s always been the Court of Wonder, only giving their miracles to the people they call worthy and apparently scheming all the while to no longer have to do that to maintain their reputation. “That doesn’t seem like my problem.”
“The Lords of the Wing are declining in power. You would have had it. The mortals matter to you so much?”
Chirp laughs. It takes more effort than she’d ever want to admit. “Goodness, rumors do soar, don’t they? Grandfather must have invented those too. I shall have to congratulate him.”
“You don’t deny it.”
“I don’t need to. I’m the one with the power right now, or you wouldn’t be asking me favors.” The bowl inviting coins isn’t, Chirp suspects, wholly for show, though it isn’t money Suntar will be missing most, it’s magic. “I’ll give you one, but not the one you want. I have alliances I care about more than I care about your favors.”
“What favor will you so graciously bestow on me, then, Lady Featherfowl? And what do you ask in return?”
That’s as familiar as bargaining for bread at the market, or maybe bargaining for bread at the market is as familiar as dealing with other archfey. Chirp smiles. “I’m going to give you a little magic. Just a little, mind, I don’t want to have to go back from my visit too early, but dear Andhera would be so disappointed if I allowed you to dwindle into a bundle of rags or a shadow on a lake or something equally lackluster.”
“And in return?” Suntar’s voice is shaking with rage. Chirp does so miss this kind of thing in the mortal realms, Esmé keeps things so quiet. “For your gracious charity?”
She could ask for any number of embarrassing things. She could ask Suntar to write Andhera note of apology, except then Andhera might actually want to speak to her, and then Binx would be mad at Chirp, so that’s an unproductive line of thought. “Stop looking for the portal until this dose of magic runs out. Pay attention to the mortals. They’re funny, but they’re not as different as you’d think. Things are changing in our realm. You’ll get along much better if you understand a few things.”
“So I’ll be no closer to home than I am now. Just a stay of execution.”
Chirp shrugs. “Maybe you’ll find another way to get some magic. Or I’ll see you again. I’m in markets in this region often enough. Do we have a deal?”
Suntar glares at her for a few seconds. “We have a deal,” she finally says.
Much as Chirp loves to make a production of things, Peep and Esmé are waiting at home, and Chirp still has to do the rest of the shopping. She doesn’t draw it out, but gives Suntar a dose of magic, a decent amount of her portion for the day while reserving enough to defend herself from any threats, Suntar included. “There. Enjoy your vacation in the mortal realms, dear. I’ll see you sometime, I’m sure.”
“Sleep with one eye open,” says Suntar, but her shoulders are relaxing and her eyes are already brighter, which in her case means more shadowy.
“Some birds do that, you know!” says Chirp brightly, and wiggles her fingers at Suntar in a wave before she goes off to do the rest of her shopping.
Esmé shakes her head when Chirp turns up with a hair ribbon made of moonlight as well as the cheese and vegetables she requested, but Chirp kisses her and ties Peep’s hair up in a bow and keeps the rest of her adventures to herself.

Bloodbang Chronicles - Chapter 10 - Halsin
Chapter summary: A reunion with an old friend, and some sweet, tender memories of getting railed by him
Chapter word count: 4k
Chapter CW: F/M/M threesome, anal (and just so we’re clear, Astarion is the one who gets dicked down)
Previous chapter | Series masterlist | AO3 | Overall masterlist
Series summary:
Five years have passed since the confrontation with the Netherbrain. Astarion and his warlock lover, Asmodea, are living it up in Baldur’s Gate, running a cabaret. Their life of decadence and debauchery seems idyllic, until Asmodea’s patron disrupts it with a proposal. One that seems too good to be true. One they cannot refuse.
Pairing: Astarion x Original Female Character
Genre: Humor / adventure / smut
Rating: Explicit
...I feel I should do an additional disclaimer before we start.
As you may or may not remember from a brief mention all the way back in Chapter 1, Asmodea, Astarion and Halsin were once a throuple. Their relationship begins in A Night at the Inn. I have also just posted Sweat, a companion fic for this chapter, which talks about the progression of their relationship. Both fics are, of course, heavy smut. Check them out!
Anyway. Enjoy!
“Where is home?”
“Elversult,” said Asmodea. “Or, as everyone I’ve ever mentioned the town name to likes to joke, Elvenslut.”
As the sky began to colour an alarming (for Astarion, that is) shade of pink with the approaching dawn, Astarion and Asmodea stood before what appeared to be a massive patch of stinging nettle, admiring Asmodea's handiwork. No one in their right mind would set foot anywhere near the towering, sprawling growth.
“This is hag magic,” said Astarion. “Is there something I need to know about you?”
Asmodea snorted.
“Hag magic is fey,” she responded. “A clever trick, thank you,” she added, the latter words clearly not meant for Astarion.
Astarion took another look at the brightening sky, sighed and walked into the nettle. The illusion around their tent dissolved for him, and he entered what would be his shelter until dusk. Asmodea followed him, to ensure everything worked as intended, before retreating again to finish off some errands in the daylight.
They would proceed this way for the majority of their journey, whenever they couldn't take shelter for the day elsewhere.
Astarion and Asmodea reached Reithwin the following night, without any mishaps.
Halsin had been informed about their arrival ahead of time, and would be waiting. He had stayed in the area, helping to rebuild the city, and creating a community for orphans and misfits who did not otherwise have a home to return to. He found himself, once again, in a leadership position, though this time it seemed to provide a sense of fulfilment.
They had fallen out of contact with him, somewhat. It wasn't for their own lack of trying - the druid was simply abysmal with keeping up with written correspondence, and loathed visiting Baldur's Gate despite the proximity. Still, any time they did see him, it felt as though no time at all had passed since their last encounter.
They found him on the road at the outskirts of the reclaimed city. An elven woman stood with him - also a wood elf, from what Asmodea could make out of her hair and skin colouring in the fey lights surrounding the pair.
“Must be his new ladylove,” she commented.
Astarion made a non-committal sound in response, hastening his step as they approached the other pair - Halsin all open-hearted smile, his companion likewise holding a genuine-looking amiable expression despite, Asmodea hoped, knowing who they were. Asmodea was about to say something, but was cut short, as the next thing she knew, Astarion had flung himself at Halsin and was being held against the druid's massive chest.
Asmodea smiled at the woman, with a little apologetic shrug. The woman smiled back. Her hands, Asmodea now noticed, were held atop a bump on her abdomen.
Asmodea frowned, quickly flicking her eyes between the woman’s face, her stomach and Halsin, in rapid succession, before meeting the woman's gaze again, and lifting her eyebrows in silent question.
The elven woman's smile widened, as she nodded, also still not having said a word.
Halsin had finally released Astarion, who had been blubbering some nonsense that he probably intended to come off as nonchalant, and approached Asmodea, arms held out in an offered hug.
She shoved him back, hard but with an uncertain level of success, pushing against his chest with her hands.
“Halsin, you ridiculous bloody oaf, I can't believe you didn't tell us you were having a baby!!!”
Five years ago, after the defeat of the Netherbrain
There was a romantic spark between Astarion and Halsin - there was no disputing that. It wasn’t merely that Asmodea was involved with both of them at the same time. However, whereas Astarion’s relationship with Asmodea had begun with commitment-free sex, and gradually unfolded into a genuine intimate connection, it followed a completely different route with Halsin. Asmodea wondered if there may have been some elven courtship at play, the rules of which she was simply unaware of.
Astarion was often going on about the promiscuity of wood elves, as though his own morals were any different, but thus far he and Halsin had only shared kisses and embraces, seeming to draw the line at that and the occasional lingering caress. They had both been present whilst the other was intimate with Asmodea, but they rarely touched each other remotely sexually, not counting the inevitable semi-involuntary grinding and groping when Astarion drank from Halsin.
Until that night, that is.
They had taken to sleeping in a cuddle pile, at least when their sleeping schedules coincided - Halsin was needed during the day, whilst Asmodea had started keeping more to Astarion’s hours, and stayed awake all night with him.
It was mostly for Astarion’s benefit - Halsin was like a walking furnace, and although Astarion was almost impervious to cold, he did not enjoy it in the least. He was very much like a cat that was always trying to cozy up in a warm spot.
It was early morning hours, the light barely dawning. Astarion lay on his side between Asmodea and Halsin, his back against the druid’s chest, and his own arms wrapped around Asmodea. That was what she had fallen asleep to, at any case.
She awoke some time later to some slight movements and the feeling of an erection poking into her stomach.
She opened her eyes to see Halsin’s fingers tracing the muscles of Astarion’s arm. She heard Astarion sighing softly, and tilted her head slightly to see Astarion lying with his eyes closed and his head thrown back, as Halsin slowly licked and nibbled on Astarion’s ear. The look on Astarion’s face was that of pure unabashed bliss.
She almost felt like she was intruding on a moment being shared between the two elves.
Astarion opened his eyes, noticing she was awake.
“Having fun without me..?” she asked, innocuously.
Halsin met her eyes with a small smile but didn’t otherwise stop what he was doing, and Astarion gathered her more tightly in his arms, drawing her up into a kiss, his breath quivering.
Halsin continued to caress Astarion, moving his hand from his arm to run along the side of his torso, as he placed soft kisses down his neck and shoulder.
Astarion’s hands began to roam Asmodea’s body, as he closed his eyes again, leaning back against Halsin.
“Touch me,” he whispered, shakily.
Asmodea felt Halsin’s hand brushing against her skin as it gradually slipped lower and lower down Astarion’s stomach. One of her own arms wrapped around Astarion’s waist, while the other trailed feather-light down his neck, dipping down past his collarbone and into the ridge between his chest muscles. It followed the outline before trailing up until she brushed a hardened nipple, making Astarion release another sigh of pleasure.
“Do you desire only her touch..?” the druid breathed against Astarion’s ear. “A single word from you and I will stop, if that is your wish.”
“Both,” Astarion managed, swallowing hard. “I want both of you.”
Asmodea kissed down his neck, pausing at Astarion’s bite scars.
They were as sensitive as his ears - it was almost unfair to use this knowledge, though he usually wanted her to.
“Here..?” she whispered, smiling, stopping just short of the marks, leaving slow, soft kisses around the perimeter of the sensitive area on his neck.
“Don’t you dare stop, you tease,” he murmured, angling his neck so she had easier access.
She chuckled and ran her tongue in a light stroke over the scars. Astarion gasped and shuddered, entwining his fingers within her hair. At the same time, Halsin, who had resumed nibbling softly on Astarion’s ear, lowered his hand further, slowly, until he reached Astarion’s cock and began stroking.
“Gods…” was all Astarion managed, eyes shut, melting in pleasure between his lovers’ caresses.
Asmodea slid the hand that had been playing with one of Astarion’s nipples lower, trailing her fingers over his abs.
“Keep going,” he whispered, whimpering.
His own hands had been wandering aimlessly over her body, wherever they could reach. He now turned halfway around, and reached back to tug on Halsin’s hair behind him, urging the druid toward him, until he pulled him into a greedy kiss, moaning into his mouth.
Asmodea’s hand continued towards his hips. It was only when she reached them that she realised that Astarion’s underwear was still on. The two elves seemed entirely too preoccupied with each other to take a moment to deal with that, so she slid it down Astarion’s hips herself, until it was low enough for him to be able to impatiently kick it the rest of the way off himself. The druid did the same with his own.
Asmodea observed them for a few moments, watching Astarion grinding his hips back against the the druid’s; Halsin’s impressive, hardened length pressed against the cleft of Astarion’s ass.
“Come back here,” Astarion murmured, noticing that she was lingering just watching them.
She smiled and fell back onto the bed, letting herself be pulled into Astarion’s arms, flush against his body, again.
“Just keep touching me,” he whispered, hoarsely.
Her hand joined Halsin’s on Astarion’s cock, running her thumb along the slit of its head, spreading his precum, as Halsin continued to massage his shaft. Astarion released a wanton, throaty moan.
“Like that?” she purred, teasing, as she rubbed a sensitive spot on the underside of the head.
“Yes,” he groaned. “Everywhere.”
Asmodea hummed and let her hand slip lower, gently cupping and tugging on his balls. Halsin had taken over massaging Astarion’s now seeping cock, sucking on his earlobe.
Astarion thrust into his hand, his moans mounting.
“Everywhere..?” Asmodea whispered, watching him.
Astarion made no verbal response, instead just bending his knee at an angle, giving her better access.
She continued on with her hand, slipping further until she was fingering his hole, applying pressure and rubbing circles around it.
“Yes…” Astarion mustered, whimpering, his breath shaking, rutting harder, faster, into Halsin’s hand, until abruptly his eyes flew open. “Wait… Wait. Stop.”
Halsin and Asmodea immediately ceased what they were doing. Halsin tried to lean away and sit up, but Astarion caught his arm before he could do that, and urged the druid back, holding the arm wrapped around himself.
“Too much?” Asmodea asked with concern.
Astarion only pulled her into another kiss, his breath still ragged.
“Just not like this,” he said.
He rolled his hips back against Halsin’s, grinding against Halsin’s erection.
“I want to be fucked,” Astarion said in no uncertain terms, albeit with a slight tremble in his voice.
Halsin hesitated before answering.
“I might hurt you,” he said, to which Astarion only exhaled a sharp laugh.
“Have you considered that perhaps I want to be hurt..?”
“It is not in my nature to do that deliberately, my moonlight,” said Halsin. “But perhaps our bodies will find a compromise regardless of our wills.”
Asmodea had lost no time in retrieving a vial filled with an oily liquid. They had used it often enough for her own needs.
The elves stayed on their sides, as Halsin applied the liquid onto his fingers. Asmodea lost sight of the druid’s actions and could only guess what was happening, as Astarion pulled her into a kiss, again, holding her tightly against himself.
Astarion’s breathing quivered as he rolled his hips, gently, keeping his leaking cock pressed between himself and Asmodea’s abdomen.
“I’ll stop if you w-” the druid began to murmur, until Astarion interrupted him.
“Don’t stop, godsdamnit.”
Halsin only chuckled, resigned, and shortly thereafter Asmodea felt a deeper roll of Astarion’s hips, as he moaned against her lips, his cock twitching between them.
“More,” he groaned, before long.
“As you wish,” the druid breathed, returning to nibbling on Astarion’s earlobe.
A sharp intake of breath, followed by a long, drawn out sigh and a whimper. The way Astarion clutched on to her had Asmodea doubting Astarion’s apparent bravado, if not his resolve. She shifted to lift herself higher on the bed, so his face was at her neck. He promptly buried his nose in it, breathing in her scent, and kissed it.
“More,” he repeated stubbornly.
“You are rushing, there is no need.”
“You know I’m not new to this,” he retorted. “Please… I want to feel you. All of you. I need to.”
“Very well, my eager cub,” Halsin said in a low rumble, reaching for the vial once again, this time to coat his cock, before returning to lay against Astarion.
“Why is your heart racing so hard, darling?” Astarion murmured to Asmodea, just before stilling and driving his fingers hard into the flesh of her hips and her back, burying his face in her neck again. A breathless groan escaped from the back of his throat as he gradually loosened his grip on her.
The druid lay flush against Astarion, breathing hard as he gently, slowly, rolled his hips in subtle movements. Before long, he stilled, simply lying pressed against Astarion, kissing up his neck as both the elves’ breathing calmed. After some moments, he reached to bring Astarion’s leg up by the knee, whispering something into the vampire’s ear in elven, before beginning to thrust his hips at a slow but steady pace.
Astarion’s moans sounded like a plea, as his hips rolled back to meet the druid’s, greedy and impatient. Meanwhile, he reached for Asmodea, bringing her back down until he he could place more breathless kisses on her lips.
As the druid thrust into him, Astarion reached to grasp Asmodea’s hand, in a movement that was almost frenzied in its need, and brought it down to his cock, guiding it at the pace he wanted for a few strokes, before relinquishing its control to her.
His moans and kisses grew increasingly frantic as Halsin picked up his pace, and eventually Astarion move her hand away, grabbing her hips instead, and drawing them towards his own.
“I’m so close,” he whispered shakily. “I want to be inside you when I come. Please…”
Asmodea would not, could not, deny him. It wasn’t the easiest angle, that with the druid’s own ministrations, but she managed to hook her knee high enough to allow Astarion access. He gripped her ass tight as he plunged into the tight warmth of her channel. He couldn’t thrust much, beyond the rocking caused by Halsin’s movements, but she felt his cock twitch inside her, with need and promise of release.
Astarion arched, subdued gasps and whimpers giving way to desperate moans.
“That’s it, my heart, let it out,” groaned Halsin.
As Astarion’s hands searched for anything to hold on to, Asmodea returned her attention to his neck, licking and sucking on his scars.
“Gods,” he moaned, shuddering, fingers of one hand tightening in her hair, the other gripping her ass ever tighter, pulling her as close as he could. “Don’t stop, don’t stop, don’t stop, don’t stop…”
His entire body began to tremble, his hips jerking but with no place to go, secured as they were between his lovers’. A few more harder thrusts from Halsin, and Astarion let out something between a scream and a sob, his cock pulsing inside Asmodea. One more languid stroke of her tongue across his bite scars, and she kissed her way back up his neck, as the druid also kissed and nibbled his way along Astarion’s shoulder, letting him ride out his orgasm.
Gasps and grunts gave way to shuddered breathing, to deep satisfied sighs, as Astarion melted into a lax, satiated smile, all but purring in his contentment. Asmodea had to bite her tongue to hold back from any teasing whispers, just letting him bask in this afterglow. Halsin likewise stilled, releasing Astarion’s knee, and simply holding the lither elf in his embrace.
After some moments, Astarion slipped out of Asmodea, giving her a tender kiss, and looked back at Halsin, eyes trailing down from the druid’s face down to his still achingly hard erection.
He twisted, taking the druid’s length into his hand and stroking it, as Asmodea leaned away to find something to clean the mess between her legs.
“Ever so generous, so considerate, so self-denying,” Astarion purred. “Yet you still haven’t given me what I asked for.”
“Whatever could you mean,” Halsin emitted in a low growl, looking into Astarion’s eyes and thrusting into his hand. He groaned with disappointment when Astarion let go of his cock.
“You’ve been making love to me this whole time,” Astarion said with a sly smile, turning to get on all fours. “Now will you fuck me?”
“This is a lovely tea, Elowyn,” Asmodea said, sipping from her steaming mug.
The four sat in Halsin and Elowyn’s simple but cozy kitchen. A fire from the hearth cast a glow on the room, illuminating a homey disarray of pots, pans and utensils scattered across the surfaces. Fragrant bundles of dried herbs hanging from the ceiling beams filled the air with a comforting aroma.
Scratch couldn’t decide whose attention he wanted the most, and simply lay between everyone’s fees beneath the table, thumping his tail against Astarion’s leg.
Astarion too had managed to keep himself from fiddling with any sharp objects, and indeed seemed to be on his best behaviour throughout the dinner he couldn’t quite take part in.
“Thank you,” smiled the wood elf. “All the herbs are from our garden. The twins seem to enjoy it as well.”
“I had meant to send word to you earlier, truly,” said Halsin. “But at first we thought it prudent to wait and ensure all was well with the twins, and then… And then time simply got away from us,” he said, apologetically. “It seems it was only yesterday that we first knew.”
“When are you due?” asked Asmodea.
“Perhaps in another four lunar cycles or so,” answered Elowyn. “The twins are growing fast, and I suspect they will take after their father, but they have only recently begun revealing themselves to me in my reverie.”
Asmodea hummed, not quite understanding what the other woman meant.
“Elowyn would have liked to return to her family to welcome the babes, but like me, she cannot return to her homeland,” said Halsin. “The community we’ve built here is our new home. A new beginning, for both of us. And though we are surrounded by friendly, well-meaning faces here, true bonds are scarce.”
Halsin paused, looking at Elowyn. She met his gaze, placed her hand over his on the table, and smiled encouragingly. Halsin continued.
“It would mean the world for us - for me especially - if you could be with us when Elowyn’s time comes.”
“An honour,” Astarion said, visibly taken aback. “If you are certain. …Are you? Certain? A vampire and a half elf are hardly suitable attendees for the celebration.”
“I am sure,” Elowyn said with conviction. “You will forever remain entwined in Halsin’s heart, and that which is dear to him - is dear to me.”
Astarion only released an awkward chuckle, while Asmodea likewise found herself at a loss for words.
“I know your misfortunes took much from you, but do you still remember your birth, Astarion?” asked Halsin.
Asmodea was about to laugh at the absurd question that had seemingly come out of nowhere, but held back as no one else had batted an eye at the notion.
“I think a glimpse still remains,” said Astarion, with a faraway look in his eyes, as though searching his memory. “A feeling of… being celebrated. Of knowing that my very existence brought joy to many others in that moment. And fragments of a song, though the words and the full melody escape me when I try to recollect them. I would recognise it if I heard it again, I'm sure.”
“…What?” was all Asmodea managed, looking at Astarion incredulously.
“Ah, you may not be privy to this,” said Halsin. “Elves remember their birth.”
“What?” she repeated, looking at Halsin.
He chuckled and took a puff of his pipe, looking every bit a patriarch of a family.
“We do not remember much of the first half century or so of our lives, but memories of our first moments linger. Elven birth is unlike that of other races. It is near painless. It is not something to be hidden. Instead, it is a beautiful, joyous occasion - the community gathers round the new mother to witness and honour the holy miracle of being. Ancient birthing chants and hymns are sung. It is a moment of celebration for all who are gathered.”
“What?!” Asmodea all but shouted.
“Darling, you know this,” Astarion murmured, throwing an apologetic look at their hosts. “It's even mentioned in some of the ballads you've performed - do you remember the one about the elven dragonrider princess? When Wyll roped you into playing at the orphanage? ‘She came at dawn, and hundreds circled round in dance and song of joy’?”
“I thought it was a metaphor,” hissed Asmodea. “I didn't realise the whole town had literally gathered to sing into her mother's dilated cooch!”
Astarion covered his face and groaned, as Halsin and Elowyn laughed, goodheartedly.
“You are everything Halsin told me about, and more,” Elowyn said, her eyes twinkling with warm amusement.
Astarion remained up with Halsin after Asmodea and Elowyn retired.
“What of yourselves?” Halsin asked, puffing on his pipe. “Have you considered it? Now that you know for certain it is possible, with talk of dhampir appearing in the Underdark.”
“There is nothing to consider,” Astarion scoffed. “The thing would kill her on the way out, then return to stake me twenty years later.”
“Not if she is in the hands of competent healers, and not if you raise the child with love,” Halsin objected, studying the vampire.
“We’re not interested.”
“Have you spoken about it? Do you know what is in her heart, truly?” Halsin asked, cocking an eyebrow, as he continued to smoke his pipe.
“Well… I… I mean…” Astarion stuttered and huffed, before sighing and growing quiet. “…Godsdamn you, Halsin,” he said, finally.
They left Reithwin the following night, continuing southeast, towards the Wood of Sharp Teeth. Astarion seemed lost in thought as they made their way.
“You’re awfully quiet,” said Asmodea. “What’s on your mind?”
“It’s nothing,” said Astarion. Catching an annoyed glance from Asmodea, he sighed and continued. “It’s not nothing, per se, but rather I know it’s not important because I already know what you’re going to say.”
“What’s not important?”
“Well, it’s not that it’s not important, it is important, but I feel like we’ve already resolved it, because I already know the outcome.”
“What is this important matter that we’ve resolved without ever talking about?” Asmodea frowned.
“It’s nothing.”
“Astarion,” she said, an edge creeping into her voice.
They both stopped in their tracks, Asmodea crossing her arms and glaring at Astarion. He sighed before cocking his head and giving her a sheepish look.
“Do you want kids?”
“What?” she blinked, taken aback. “Oh. Nooooo. Nonononono. No. …No. …Do you?”
“No! Not at all. I mean, unless you-”
“No! No, I don’t. I… I guess if it was important to y-”
“It’s not! I mean, it would be, if you… But you don’t?”
“I don’t. Unless you-”
“I don’t.”
“No?”
“Yes. As in, no. …And you’re sure? You’re not just-”
“Yep! As in, I’m not. I mean, I don’t.”
“I understand.”
“Okay. Okay, good.”
“Yes. Marvellous.”
“Right. Yes.”
Astarion released a high-pitched chortle.
“Now aren’t you glad we had this talk, darling?” he said, as he continued walking. Asmodea stood still for another stunned second, before shaking her head and continuing after him.
“Why what a ridiculous, bizarre notion,” he went on. “Can you even imagine me as a-” He cut himself off, once he glanced back and saw the grin on her face. “Hey! Stop it. No. Stop. Stop imagining it!”
Their giddy laughter rang long and loud, disturbing the peace of the otherwise quiet night.

It was no secret that Tony loved talking about his work. When he got excited, he tended to ramble on and on about his projects until someone stopped him.
Some people thought it was annoying. That he was a narcissist to be so proud of his work and to want to talk about it.
Rhodey remembers him doing it when they were still kids, babies compared to the others in their class. He was so small, hands flailing everywhere, almost smacking Rhodey in the face once or twice or even dozens of times because Tony never learned to rein his movements in.
He came to learn that this was a freedom, an excitement Tony never got to experience at home. His parents expected professionalism from him even before the age of ten.
It took weeks of Rhodey expressing genuine interest in his work for Tony to show even the slightest amount of enthusiasm about it.
Almost overnight, there was a change. It was like going from a drizzle to pouring rain and forgetting your umbrella at home.
Thankfully, Rhodey never minded the rain.
The older they got, the more complex Tony’s projects got, which meant there was that much more to listen to when he wanted to tell people about it.
Unfortunately, because they were older, Rhodey wasn’t home with Tony as often as he used to be. Tony ranting on phone calls never quite matched up to the real thing.
There was a period of time when they were in their 20’s where they almost never saw each other. The few times a year Rhodey was able to take off, he had to choose between going home to see his mom and sister in Philadelphia, or following Tony wherever he was.
It was never an easy decision, but phone calls started to be his saving grace. He loved listening to Tony talk, and even if he couldn’t be there, he could still hear him.
Now, they were approaching old age, but Rhodey was with Tony almost all the time.
Finally.
It was a long time coming, for them to be able to be together, happy and content in their years, and just get to relax without the pressure of deadlines and constant travel.
No deadlines meant being able to spend the days however they wanted too.
That included catching up on lab days.
Lab days where Tony would talk and talk and talk about his work, and Rhodey was happy to sit and listen.
“Well first of all, you have to understand that I’m not doing this just to prove that I can. There are real and incredibly valid reasons as for why I’m doing this.”
“Which are?”
“That asshole over at HammerTech thinks he could make an engine that can travel in space better than me.”
“Ah yes. That asshole. Otherwise known as Justin Hammer himself.”
“He doesn’t even do any of his own work, and come on now, even if he did, it’s not like he could beat my work when it comes to engines. He doesn’t even know how solar power works, let alone how to incorporate it into a seamless design that allows it to adapt based on proximity to the sun.”
“So now you’re building a new one just to, what, piss him off?”
“Yes, and I had this idea that since we’re starting to branch out with our space travel, I should make sure that the solar panels can absorb energy from all stars, not just our own sun. Which technically I know most stars have the same sort of gaseous makeup, it’s worth double checking so no one runs out of power in another planetary system, you know?”
“Makes sense. How are you getting the data though?”
“I have Carol and Valkyrie running my errands for me. They turned it into a competition, so I also asked Thor to help.”
“You want to tell me what you have so far?”
That was his ticket in. Even when Tony was clearly aching to talk about a project, that light poke into I want you to tell me all about this is the key to getting Tony to open up.
Of course, Rhodey was an active listener, adding in his own input, and asking questions when he had them. He was no slouch when it came to engineering, and sometimes, like in times like these, parts of his field were relevant.
“No, it makes perfect sense. We understand stars as gas and heat. Hydrogen and helium are part of the base makeup of our universe, along with water right? And we assumed that was a constant for a long time because all we had were the bounds of this spiral galaxy, but we can’t make those assumptions anymore.”
“Right, because we don’t know about any elements outside of our system, and what if those new elements affect the energy absorption?”
“So that’s why you sent Thor to ask Asgard’s scholars?”
“And Valkyrie to all the furthest planets she knows about because somehow she knows a lot about those, and Carol to talk to the Skrulls and any Kree allies she has left. That data should give us a better idea of what we need to adjust.”
On and on he went. At some point, he hit his stride, and Rhodey stopped responding entirely, happy to just listen.
The longer he spoke, the more it seemed like years were disappearing off his face. He seemed younger when he was happy, just talking about the things he loved.
Rhodey could see him at every age in a moment. At 14 with his hand gestures, erratic yet pointed. At 19 with the pacing. At 30 with the way his jaw never seemed to fully relaxed, always ready to brace for another fight.
And then now, in their 50s, he could see the lines around his eyes. A mix of stress and joy and the ever present reminder that they were getting older, and he was beautiful.
When Tony was close enough to him again, having planted his feet on the other side of the table he was sitting at, Rhodey reached up to catch his face in his hand.
Tony stopped abruptly, staring at him.
“You didn’t have to stop talking.”
“What are you doing?”
“Looking at you,” Rhodey answered honestly.
“Why?”
“Can’t I just look at you? You’re very handsome.”
“Thank you, but why?”
“Because I want to. Because your face fascinates me and I like looking at it.”
“What do you like so much about it that it has to interrupt my train of thought?”
“I told you you could keep talking. Do you really want to know?”
“Yes.”
“I like these,” he said, brushing over the freckles scattered over Tony’s cheeks. “You can’t see them unless you get really close, but I like them.”
“And these,” he thumbed at Tony’s lip, “these are stunning. You speak, and the world listens, and sometimes I don’t think you understand the kind of influence you have. Your words bring hope and joy, and I’m honored to listen to you talk about the things that you love.”
“But these are your loveliest feature.” He stood as he spoke, leaning across the desk to press a kiss to the edges of the lines around his eyes. “I’ve known you for so long. I know every single part of you. And these are my favorites. Because it proves that you’ve lived a full life. That you’ve been happy and sad and stressed and you’ve lived, Tony. And you are so beautiful.”
Tony gaped up at him for a moment. “Can I kiss you?”
“Of course,” Rhodey said, already closing the distance between them.
When they parted, Rhodey removed his hand from Tony’s face.
“You’re handsome too you know, even if I don’t always say it,” Tony told him.
He laughed. “Thank you, my love. You can go back to explaining the complexities of Asgardian universities now. I just had to say that.”
“I don’t even remember what I was talking about now, thank you for that.”
“You’re welcome. You were somewhere around graduation and post-undergrad opportunities I think.”
“Right, yeah, so-”
Yeah. This was one of his favorite things.

Second Chances: Johnny ‘Coco’ Cruz
Mayans MC Masterlist
word count: 500
description: Fate works in mysterious ways as they always say but who knew helping a stranger would lead you back to your ex lover?
Out of all the people in the world, she had to be his kid. Y/N was out running a few errands when Letty had come up to her asking her for help. So here she was driving back to a place she had never thought she would ever step foot on.
"How do you know who Coco is?" Letty asked cutting the music down some.
"You could say we're old friends of sorts." Y/N said giving her a fake smile not wanting to tell her that she had a romantic history with her brother.
"Did he ever talk to you about why he gave me up?" Letty asked making Y/N sigh.
"He really should be telling you this but long story short Coco wanted you and your two other siblings as far as way from him and his toxic family as possible." Y/N said trying to read the younger girls' emotional status.
Y/N braced herself as she saw Chucky open the gate for them before pulling in and parking away from the bikes.
"Do my eyes deceive me or has Y/N finally decided to come to us after all this time?" Angel asks walking over and hugging Y/N.
While hugging Angel, her eyes connected with his and everything came rushing back to her and she felt her heart getting torn apart again as he made her way over towards them.
"Can we talk in private for a few minutes?" He asks.
"I guess." Y/N says quietly following him as Angel wishes her good luck before taking Letty inside of the clubhouse.
"Thank you for helping her despite what happened between us, it means a lot to me." He says taking a drag of his cigarette.
"Just because you broke my heart, doesn't mean I don't still care about you or those you associate with." Y/N says taking a seat in the chair.
"You know breaking up with you is still one of the things I regret ever doing." He says.
"Then why did you do it? I loved you CoCo, I just wished you could've understood why I did and why no matter the type of the person you were or the things you did." Y/N says blinking away a few tears.
"At the time I thought I was saving you from all the pain that comes from being with me but these last two years have been hell on me. I'm sorry Y/N I really am." Coco said rubbing his thumb across her cheek as she leaned into his touch.
"So where do we go from here?" Y/N asks quietly after a few minutes.
"I would like to try this again but only if you want to and if you don't I completely understand." Coco says.
"I would love that a lot actually." Y/N says placing a kiss on his lips to which Coco happily returns.

Demolition Lovers (Hargreeves x sibling!reader)
Summary: Klaus and Y/N helps their brother, Luther find a perfect date.
Title Reference: Demolition Lovers x My Chemical Romance
Word Count: 1.6k words
Warning: swearing, mention of sex
✤ · ✤ · ✤ · ✤ · ✤
It was a typical day at the Hargeeves mansion. Klaus and I hanging out as we lay across the couch next to each other, scrolling through our social media and sharing celebrity gossips that was trending that day.
Diego would then barge in, bothering us to get up and be productive but then end up eaves dropping and joining our conversation.
Then we'd have Vanya that'll feed us our daily snacks. She was like a mama bird; Hearing the rest of us complaining and bickering then feeds us the goodies to shut our mouth. It honestly worked every time and now I start to wonder if that was her trick all along.
After our snack was nap time, where Klaus and I would lay there for two to five hours, usually get up when the sun was down. Then we would plan our night, typically out for dinner or a night out if it was the weekend.
But our schedule, our precious paradise time was ruined by the one and only. Luther Hargreeves.
It wasn't supposed to be this way; Allison would go out to run errands, Ben worked all day like the responsible man that he was, and Five would just be Five, roaming town and doing God knows what. Luther would be home to research and dig through dad's old stuff.
Today however, wasn't the case.
He instead came in during mine and Klaus' precious nap time, groaning and yappin' about some girl on an app. Didn't know why he had to do this in the family room but there he was.
'Do you not see us sleeping here?' I complained as I lifted my head from the pillow, trying not to move a lot so that Klaus could stay asleep.
'Sorry, sorry. I didn't mean to be loud.' He apologized as he stared at his phone, depressed and upset.
Klaus rolled his eyes. 'Well you are and you're still here.'
Luther froze in place, continuing to stare at the screen. Klaus and I looked at each other, nudging one another to see who was going to talk to him first.
The both of us got up, sitting down side to side as we looked at Luther and back at each other. Klaus seemed like he was unbothered, so I sighed and broke the silence. 'What's wrong buddy?'
'Nothing.' Luther frowned.
Squinting my eyes, I grabbed the pillow from the couch and threw it on Luther's head. 'You bitch! You woke us up from our nap and you're going to say "nothing" is bothering you?'
'Ow!' Luther rubbed his head. 'Okay, okay. Damn. It's this girl on tinder, she doesn't want to go on a date with me.'
'Well, what did you tell her? Did you say something stupid?'
Luther got up, 'See. This is why I didn't want to tell you guys becau-'
'Sorry, sorry.' I stood up and pulled Luther back onto the couch. 'Mind if I see the conversation?'
His face immediately turned red, 'Uhm. Do you have to?'
'If you want me to figure out why she's turning you down, yeah.'
Hesitantly, he pulled up the messages he had with the girl and then passed me the phone. Scrolling through the messages, I shook my head. 'Luther, she's DTF.'
'Yeah, I know that's why I don't understand why she turned me down. She brought it up first.'
Klaus blinked, 'What do you think DTF stands for?'
By the look on Luther's face, I knew he was confused. He looked over at the ceiling, thinking for a while before he replied to Klaus. 'Don't tell me I was wrong this whole time.'
'So what do you think it says?'
'Uhm... Date This Friday?'
Klaus awed, shaking his head as he left my side and took a seat next to him. He wrapped his arms around Luther, 'Buddy. No. That's not what it stands for. But that's cute of you.'
'Wait, huh? So this whole time me and her were on the wrong page? What did she mean then?'
'She wanted to fuck you.' I blurted, I felt bad that Luther was so confused. 'It stands for Down To Fuck.'
It was a dead giveaway that he had no clue what his whole conversation really meant, his whole face turned redder than ever. He buried his face into his hands. 'Oh no.'
'I didn't think you were talking to girls, honestly.' Klaus chuckled. 'You clearly got game, your noggin is just a little... outdated.'
'I got what? Game? No, I just deleted Candy Crush, it was too addicting.'
Klaus kept his laugh in, curling his lips as he slowly nodded back at his brother. 'Oh my gosh.'
✤ · ✤ · ✤ · ✤ · ✤
It had been about two weeks, helping Luther get a dream girl that he deserved. Despite Luther being the annoying sibling, he had been there for me countless times and I wanted nothing but the best for him.
We've tried talking to the girls on the app, few weren't looking for anything serious, some trolling in the messages. After constant matching and messaging, Luther found someone he potentially saw a relationship with.
'Did you check your message from Claire yet?' Klaus asked.
'No. I'm kind of nervous, actually.' Luther laughed a little under his breath, shaking his legs as he gripped onto his phone.
Resting my hand on his shoulder, I reassured him. 'Don't be nervous, I'm sure she said yes to your date.'
Luther sighed, turning on his phone and scrolling through his messages. As his face lit up, he jumped off his seat. 'She said yes!'
Klaus got up and cheered, hugging Luther tightly. 'I knew it! So what time and where?'
'Ah- Uhm. Why... do you need to know?' Luther paused.
'Cause we're coming to watch.'
'No, no, no. I don't need you two spying on me. I'm already nervous as it is.'
'Yeah, Klaus let's just let him be. He's a big boy now.'
'But-'
'Let's give him the space he needs, Luther definitely needs his alone time with his girl.'
Klaus rolled his eyes, 'Okay. Have fun and tell me everything when you get home.'
A smile hasn't fade away since he saw the text; He was grinning widely than ever, never seen him this happy in my entire life. 'This is going to be so awesome!'
'Good luck buddy.' I smiled as I watch him do his little happy dance going up the stairs to get ready.
Klaus groaned, crossing his arms and pouting like a little child. 'Why can't we go spy on Luther?'
'But we are. I just wanted him to think we weren't.' I wanted nothing but the best for Luther, if it meant that he was going to have a perfect night with his perfect date, I was going to be protective of my brother.
'Perfect! I need to get my spy gear on.'
✤ · ✤ · ✤ · ✤ · ✤
With the binocular in my hands, I looked into the restaurant Luther picked for the both of them. 'Oh my gosh, he looks so cute with his little bow tie.'
Luther was blushing, talking nervously with Claire. It seemed like it was going well, no awkward moment or embarrassing moment between them.
I looked over at Klaus, who was being too quiet next to me in the passenger's seat. He had a rather thick file in his hand. 'What are you reading?'
'Claire's life.' Klaus chuckled. 'She's smart as hell, really pretty. I'd say we did a pretty good job helping Luther.'
'How did you get a file on her life?'
Klaus smiled innocently, 'Ah. I followed Diego into his ex's job and got Ben to steal it for me.'
'You what?' I leaned my head back, staring at the car ceiling as I sighed. 'Klaus, Eudora is my friend. If she finds out that you stole someone's files from the police department, she'd hate me.'
'My bad, Y/N. If it makes you feel better, Ben rejected me a bunch of times. I made a deal with him that he could take over my body for three hours for the files.'
'Whatever.' Looking through the binoculars again, I asked him another question. 'So you didn't ask Diego to get it for you?'
Klaus shook his head. 'Nah, if I ever told him I knew he'd want to come with us to stalk Luther. I wanted some Klaus Y/N alone time.'
'Aw.' I said but immediately stopped. 'Are you saying this to make me forgive you?'
'Is it working?'
'Depends how the night goes.' After a sarcastic smile, I snatched the file off of his hand. 'Why did you want to steal this anyway?'
'You ask so many questions.'
'I know.'
It was rare for Klaus to do "the responsible thing", that was more of a me, Allison or Five's criteria. I couldn't think of a possible reason why he'd go out of his way to take a file to investigate on this girl.
'It's Luther, you know. I wanted to make sure he was going out with someone that won't screw him over again.'
'That's the nicest thing you've ever said.'
'Luther better appreciate this because I'm not going to jail for this shit.'
I smiled at my brother. 'Don't worry. I gotchu.'
A loud scream came from the entrance of the restaurant, Luther approaching us quickly as he eyed the both of us.
'Duck!' I yelled at Klaus as we tried to hide ourselves from his sight.
'Don't bother. I saw you guys from the restaurant!' Luther said as he knocked on the window. 'Why are you guys here? You told me you wouldn't come.'
'I know, I know.' I rolled the window down and squealed as I reached for his bow tie. 'I just couldn't resist! You look so adorable, brother.'
He grunted, 'Stop. Guys go home, you're going to ruin this date with the woman that I love.'
'Woah! Love!?' Klaus and I said in sync.
Luther covered his mouth. He mumbled into his hand. 'Pretend I didn't say that!'
'Pretend?' I laughed, 'Luther. I can't pretend, I'm sorry. That was sort of funny. A little little little bit cute but mostly funny as hell.'
Klaus reached over me to grab onto his hand. 'Dude, you're already whipped but that's okay. But Y/N's right. It's a bit funny not going to lie.'
'I'm whipped?' Luther cocked his head. 'I don't do that sort of foreplay during se-'
'Luther, that's not what it means!'

Old pals. Bucky Barnes x Reader
In which the reader and Bucky misses each other after being appart for many months and during the current events, he has been secretly looking for her.
*Very much inspired by Episode’s 3 of TFATWS*
Enjoy! 💗
Bucky has always been the type to be cautious about his surroundings and to whoever intended to enter into his life. The constant fear of losing someone became to much of a habit for him needless to say, he was very found of you the first time Steve has ever introduced you to him. The smile you flashed at him almost hitted him, feeling a sudden rush of adrenaline he wished wanted to erase. Of course, not having to experience such emotions by the decades his cheeks turned into a shade of pink rather visible to which Sam in later events was his favorite thing just to tease the poor lovable boy.
After everything happened, everyone grew apart, first with Sharon offering you to stay with her in order to recover and of course to get your mind off things, especially since the new Captain America recently presented to the whole nation. You knew for a fact that neither Sam or Bucky was going to like it. “I wonder how they are taking the news.”
“Probably horribly,” Sharon knew the look on your face suddenly changing to quickly closing the TV. “You do realize you’ve been rewinding the same old scene over and over again, your making yourself more crazy.”
She was right, you couldn’t even remember the last time you spent without having to clue yourself in front of the TV screen. Since that day, Bucky’s face vaguely reoccured in your mind letting yourself as a distraction in hope he would come back one day.
“On earth to, Y/N.” Sharon’s voice woken you up to reality before quickly turning the TV off giving her a forced smile. “Don’t play the : I’m fine with me, tonight we have some guest and I’ll need more than my assistant to help.”
With a sigh you couldn’t really complain after all. If only there was one thing to keep you distracted from it all, it was definitely tonight’s party. At least you could stress over what to wear instead of what Bucky nor the new Captain America is up to.
Hours of preparation, Sharon decided to run for a last errands. “I suggest you get dressed right now. For my sake and yours, please Y/N.” And with that she left by giving you a quick peck on the cheek. “And brush that hair!”
Laughing softly to yourself, you were quite great full to have such a friend like hers. Heck if it wasn’t for Bucky’s and yours sake, Steve, the moment he knew what was the best, Sharon was his first instinct to keep you under her wings and that was also for the both of you sane.
Remembering the first day you ever met Bucky has always become your source of comfort. The smile he never once had shared with much people only Steve and you only showed how he was for the people he deeply cared. And deep inside, he felt every guilt for letting yourself go. Now if he could only see you again...
Hours passed and strangely Sharon’s errands felt like forever. You tried to call her only to be her voice call on the other end. All dressed, you decided to treat yourself with a little glass of wine that poorly sat there unused.
Taking your first sip you hear from afar few voices that seemed strangely familiar, with another voice with a sentence such followed. “It’s good to see you again.”
“I’m guessing someone will be more eager to see you both.” Sharon replied as the footsteps became more clearer and clearer. Frowning with confusion you tried however, to hide such little known about who might be behind the door and quickly sat down with a magazine in hand. “Y/N, Already dressed I see?”
Looking up from your current read you couldn’t really form an expression. That is when you saw the three men standing just before you. And one in particular seemed more troubled about seeing you here.
“Y/N? I thought...” Sam’s confusion was writing all over his face. Yet happy to see you but quickly cut him up.
“Dead? Guess I am not.”
Silence corrupted the room, that is when Zemo requested for a drink to Sharon whom served him right away. You smiled softly at both of the men, giving a warm hug to Sam first. “I missed ya,” He murmured in which you said the same in returned. “And grown to.”
Chuckling softly by his compliments you nudged him by the arm. On the other hand Bucky remain strangely calm. “How’s the cat?”
Sharon knew the relationship between you and him and you were great full that at least she was trying to break the discomfort between you two.
Groaning like usual Bucky rolled his eyes, “Doing great, thank you.” With not so little emotions shown his eyes remained on you. A little longer and you could feel a shade of pink appearing in your face. That is if you tried to covered it which failed by Zemo’s remark. “Are you okay, Y/N? You seemed a little flushed.”
“Shut up.” Bucky’s response caught everyone on guard including Zemo in whom he quickly of course chuckled.
Sharon gasp by looking at the time. “Shit, guest are coming soon. I recommend you all to not make a damn mess. Your also welcomed with me.” And with that everyone including Bucky decided to show a little tour before the party could even starts.
Throughout the tour, Bucky remained by your side. You could feel his soft eyes on you as if to make sure you were okay. As Sharon, Sam and Zemos were listening or admiring the place at all, Bucky leaned to whisper a few words. “You look good tonight.”
Your eyes snapped at the scene in front of you, and looked at him. That soft smile you remembered is back and all you could do was to thanked him. “Thank you... you look not so bad yourself with that new hair cut.”
Chuckling softly you looked at him with confusion. “Guess everyone was right, we’re not the greatest with words ugh? And yet everyone seemed to be saying we have a thing for one another.”
“A little to optimist much?” You teased him and he simply shook his head laughing along with you. This little interaction of course didn’t last long, Sam with a smirk called the both of you. “Come on lovers! We have a party to attend to!”
With a smile on your face you took Bucky’s hand. “Shall we?” He nods and you lead him to the party.
Lights, music being blasted and people having a blast. Bucky couldn’t remember the last time he had a dance, and by over the years he knew he had to get himself on trends but of course that failed quickly.
“Dances in my days sure did changed.” He looked at everyone and met your eyes, in which sparkles through the colored lights. Feeling almost lost into them, not wanting to let go of such beauty in front of him. Before soon being woken up to reality by your voice, he dearly missed. “Well old man, let me show you what you’re missing.”
Your bodies getting closer and closer by the sound of the music, hips moving and his hands gently gripped itself around your waist. Seeing you this happy was probably a first for him and he sure wasn’t going to destroy such happiness not only you but for his own sake.
Feeling your lips brushing on his the moment you grew slightly more closer and a sudden blush crept on both of your cheeks. “God damn I’ve missed you, Y/N.”
He couldn’t take it any more, his lips soon kissing yours in return. Corrupted with such lust and hunger that whatever was around you seemed to have faded.
Not so long after it, Sam’s voice interrupted your moment in which a Bucky looked at rather irritated. “What? I was having some unfinished business here.”
“Sorry to break it to you both, but we got some business to do.”
With a sigh Bucky with his thumb wiped his moist lips, chuckling softly by the atomic duo you leaned to whisper. “I can wait.”
Shaking his head Bucky refused to do such things. “Sorry Sam, but we will have to wait a little longer.”
“I haven’t seen Y/N in ages and I need to show who she belongs to.”

*Thud*
*Creaaaak*
Yui: ( Nn... )
( Huh? What time is it...? )
*Rustle*
Yui: ( Last time, I somehow had trouble sleeping, so I didn’t get much rest... )
( ...? Huh...? I can’t move...! W-Why...!? )
???: ...
Yui: ( Someone’s...here...? Wait...!? )
ー She opens her eyes in the hotel room
*Rustle*
Yui: ーー S-Subaru-kun!?
( Huh, hold up? Why is Subaru-kun on my side of the bed...!? )
( Did I fall asleep on the wrong side by accident...? ...No, that shouldn’t be the case... )
Subaru: ...Nn...
Yui: ( Wah! Oh no! Is he waking up...!? )
Subaru: ...Ah?
Yui: Um...Well...Good...morning...?
Subaru: Yeah...Hm?
Wait, y-you!? Why are you here!?
Didn’t I tell you to stay away from this side!?
*Thud*
Yui: No! This is my side...!
Subaru: Haah!? Yeah riーー
Yui: But look! My Rosary is placed next to the pillow...
Subaru: ...
Yui: ( What now? He went silent... )
Subaru: Aah...Right...Yesterday...
Haah...
Yui: Um, Subaru-kun...?
Subaru: ...How are you feelin’?
Yui: Eh...? How I feel? I’m totally fine though...
Subaru: ...Good.
Yui ( I wonder what he means...? )
Anyway...Why were you sleeping on my side of the bed...?
Subaru: ...Well...
...Oh shut up. Why does it matter!?
Yui: Eh? ...I’m curious...
( I mean...He’s the one who kept on telling me to stay on my side... )
Subaru: ...
Yui: ...
Subaru: ...Che! Aah, fuck!
Fine! I just gotta tell you, right!?
...You were...grunting in your sleep last night.
Yui: Eh...?
Subaru: I could hear you suffering all the way over on my side so...
So...I decided to check up on you.
...Got a problem with it?
Yui: Ah...
( So the pain in my chest from last night didn’t just occur in a dream... )
( So that’s why Subaru-kun joined me... )
You were worried about me, weren’t you?
Subaru: Wha...I wasn’t concerned or anythin’...
Yui: Fufu...
Subaru: Fuck! Don’t you dare laugh!
*Thud*
*Rustle*
Yui: Kyah...!?
Don’t pull me by my arm all of a sudden...!
Subaru: Shut up! Let’s get some more sleep.
Yui: Eeh...!?
Subaru: Now shut up and let me hold you...!
*Creaaak*
Yui: ( Geez. We should really hurry and get up though...However... )
( I’m sure he watched over me all night yesterday... )
( I guess just a short nap...should be fine? )
*TIMESKIP*
ー The scene shifts to the main street
Yui: This antique dealer you mentioned yesterday...Do you know where we can find him?
Subaru: Yeah. ...If I’m bein’ honest, I’d rather not get anywhere close to him though...
Yui: Is he that much of an oddball...?
Subaru: Rather than odd...He’s just a plain freak who always finds something to call you out on.
He’s just some stupid old geezer who doesn’t even hold back towards my Old Man.
Yui: Come on, no need to say that...
Subaru: Hmph...
However...He’s probably the only person in the whole Demon World who would dare to defy our dad.
I have to give him credit in that regard.
Yui: Heeh...I see...
( Going against Karlheinz-san...That’s quite the impressive feat... )
( I wonder what kind of person he is...? )
Subaru: I’m pretty sure it’s somewhere around here...
Aah, right here! ...Let’s go in.
ー The scene shifts to Aizen Stahl antique shop
Subaru: ーー Oi, anyone here?
Antique dealer: Hm...?
Ooh! Well if it isn’t the Sakamaki’s little one!
Yui: ( So this man is the antique dealer... )
Antique dealer: You used to be such a wee little fella!
But you’ve scored yourself a girl in the meantime, I see?
Antique dealer: ...Well, seems like she has a bit of a shovel face (1) though.
Yui: A-A shovel face...!?
( How mean... )
Subaru: Che...
...Don’t let it get to your heart. I told you he’s a disgustin’ freak who only knows how to insult others, remember?
Yui: Y-Yeah...
Antique dealer: So? What brings you here today? You sure don’t drop by every day!
Are you here to run an errand on Karlheinz’s behalf? Hehe...
Subaru: I’m not. The Old Man has nothin’ to do with this.
...Do you know Count Walter?
Antique dealer: ...
Subaru: Let’s just say I ended up wreckin’ a few of that guy’s furnishings yesterday.
Antique dealer: ...You did?
Subaru: ...Yeah.
Antique dealer: Hooh...Furnishings which belonged to Walter, huh...?
Heh...Hahaha! Right, I see! You destroyed them!
Splendid!
I have to give you props, little one.
Yui: Eh...?
( He burst out laughing for some reason...!? )
Subaru: O-Oi...?
Antique dealer: I won’t hide it, I loathe that guy.
Yui: You do...?
Antique dealer: Yeah, of course! He actually stole something very precious to me in the past.
Ever since, I’ve had a strong hatred towards him...
So hearing what happened just now made me very pleased.
Yui: ( I see...So that’s his reasoning... )
Antique dealer: I’m pretty sure I should be able to cover for pretty much anything he has in his manor aside from the stuff in his treasure storage?
Subaru: For real!?
Yui: Thank god...!
Antique dealer: If it’s to give that guy a run for his money...I’ll gladly lend you a hand.
What are you looking to replace?
Yui: Vases, sculptures and paintings...
Antique dealer: I see. I might be able to help out then. Wait one second, okay?
ー The antique dealer walks away
Yui: Seems like we might be able to fix things somehow, Subaru-kun...!
Subaru: Yeah, you’re right...
*TIMESKIP*
Antique dealer: Sorry for the wait. What do you think about this?
I assume the items which were destroyed were similar to the ones lined up here?
Subaru: Yeah, pretty much.
Yui: In which case...The Count might just forgive us if we bring him these...!
Subaru: Yeah, thanks for the help. Well thenーー
Antique dealer: Halt!
*SMACK*
Subaru: Ow...! The fuck was that for!?
Antique dealer: I never said you’re gettin’ this for free, did I?
Subaru: Haah!? Weren’t you gonna help us out!?
Antique dealer: If you’re gonna complain to me, then you can forget about getting these!
Subaru: Guh...
...Right! I’ll have the Old Man arrange the money from the human world.
So can’t we make a trade?
Antique dealer: Hmph! I can’t imagine Karlheinz will pay for something like this.
Subaru: ...Ugh...
Yui: Then...What do we have to do to get these...?
Antique dealer: Let’s see...
If you bring me the three items I want, I’d be willing to exchange.
Well, in other words, you two will be my personal servants!
Yui: Servants...
Subaru: Che...It’s a drag...but guess we have no other choice...
ーー Fine. We’ll fetch them for you.
Antique dealer: ...Is that a yes? We have a deal then!
Yui: What should we look for first?
Antique dealer: ...A clown mask. An antique one.
Subaru: Haah!? Why do you want that!?
Antique dealer: Sometimes we just want things without a specific reason, right?
You don’t have to if you don’t want to? Although that also means you won’t be getting any of these.
Subaru: ...I said I’d do it, didn’t I!? I’ll find that crap in no time so just wait here! ...Fuck!
ー The scene shifts to Saint Nore Park venue
Yui: It’s even more crowded than I thought...
Subaru: Yeah...This sucks...
Yui: ( It was to be expected with the ongoing Parade though... )
ーー Ah! But there’s a clown over there! I wonder if some sort of performance will start soon?
( Seems like we made a good decision by coming to the amusement park. Now if we can just ask him about the maskーー )
Vampire Child A: Ah! It’s a clown! Hurry up!
Vampire Child B: Wait for me!
Clown A: Now, now, don’t push!
Yui: ( Wah, he’s really popular...We can’t even get close... )
Subaru: Oi, what are we gonna do now? We can’t get to the clown ‘cause of all these lil’ brats who are in the way.
Yui: Yeah...At this rate, the show will start...
( What now...? )
Clown B: ...What should we do?
Clown C: It’s not like asking that question will get us any further...We’re in quite the pinch...
Yui: ( Hm? Those people over there... )
Say, why don’t we try talking to those two clowns preparing for the show over there?
They seem to be struggling with something...
ー Yui and Subaru approach the clowns
Yui: Excuse me...
Clown B: Yes?
Yui: What’s the matter? Is there a problem of some sorts...?
Clown C: Ah...Well...The clown who was supposed to be the star of today’s show, you see...
He injured himself and can no longer perform...
Vampire Child A: The show’s still not starting!?
Vampire Child B: We’re tired of waiting!
Yui: ( Ah...The children... )
Clown A: ...I don’t think I can buy us any more time! What now!?
Yui: Excuse me! Could we perhaps help out in some way?
Clown B: Eeh!? But...
Subaru: Hah? Oi, you, what are you...!?
Clown C: No...This might work. Even just some help with the fountain show would be much appreciated...
Clown B: ...Now that you mention it...They should probably be able to handle that much...Guess we have no other choice, huh?
Subaru: What are you thinkin’!? There’s just no way we could help out...!?
Yui: I’m sorry for making a rash decision, but...
If we help them out, perhaps they’d be more willing to return the favor afterwards...
Subaru: ...
Clown A: Will you do us this favor?
Subaru: Good point...It’d probably speed things up a little...
...Fine. We’ll do it.
Clown C: Thank you so much! Well then...We’re running short on time, so let’s get straight to it.
Yui: Yes...!
*TIMESKIP*
Clown A: Attention, everyone! The long wait is over!
Clown B: Allow us to take you to a world of dreams and fantasies!
Yui: ( Okay...Let’s give it our best shot...! )
Explanation: Press the arrow keys at the right time, following the instructions on the screen to complete the fountain show.
You can play this game in EASY, NORMAL or HARD mode.
*Clap clap clap*
Yui: ( I suppose...it went well...? )
Vampire Child A: Ohー! Amazing!
Vampire Child B: The fountain was awesome too...!
Clown A: Thank you very much! It was a grand success!
Yui: Really...? We did it, Subaru-kun!
*Rustle*
Subaru: Uwah...!?
Yui: ( Thank god...We pulled it off...! )
Subaru: O-Oi! Move back!
Yui: Eh?
Vampire Child A: Ahー! It’s a couple! They’re dating!!
Vampire Child B: You’re right~! Look at them being all lovey-dovey!
Yui: ...!
( I was so happy, I acted without thinking...! )
Ah, Subaru-kun. This is...You see, I didn’t...!
Vampire Child B: Couple! Couple!
Subaru: Che...Shut your damn mouths!
Vampire Child A: Wahー! He got mad! Let’s make a run for it!!
ー The children run off
Subaru: Fuck...!
Yui: ( Uu...What am I doing...? How embarrassing...! )
I-I’m sorry for doing such a weird thing out of nowhere...!
Subaru: Geez...
Clown C: Gosh, we were only able to hold our show because of you two.
On top of that, it got an even better reaction than we expected!
Clown B: Thank you so much!
Yui: ( I’m glad we managed to help them out. )
*TIMESKIP*
Clown A: ーー Allow me to once again thank you both for your cooperation.
Clown B: Please let us give you something to show our thanks!
Yui: U-Um...Actually, we happen to be looking for something...
ー Subaru shows them an image
Subaru: ーー This is it. Does it ring any bells?
Clown C: This is...
Yui: ( Ah...That picture... )
Subaru: Apparently it’s a clown mask. If you have it, could you give it to us?
Clown A: Ahー ...This is a rather old mask. I just hope we still have one left in the storage...
However, you were such a great help to us earlier, so we’ll try our best to look for it!
Yui: Really!? Thank you so much...!
Clown A: We’ll go search then...Could you wait for us for a while?
Yui: We’re counting on you!
ー The clowns walk away
Yui: Good news, right?
Subaru: I just hope they find it...
Yui: ( ...We’ve got some free time on our hands. What should we do? )
Ah...Say, Subaru-kun? Why don’t we go on some of the rides while we’re here?
Subaru: Aah?
Yui: I’m sure it’d be boring to just stand around waiting...
Subaru: ...Which one do you want to ride?
Yui: Um...Let’s see...Ah, how about the merry-go-round?
Subaru: Haah!? You really think I’m goin’ anywhere near that childish crap!?
Yui: Ah...
( Guess that’s a no...I would have loved to go on a ride together now that we have the chance though... )
Subaru: ...
...Che.
ー Subaru walks away
Yui: Subaru-kun...?
Subaru: ...Why are you spacin’ out over there? Hurry up.
Yui: Eh? ...Hurry for what...?
Subaru: That thing...You want to ride it, right? Then come here before I change my mind.
Yui: ...Yeah!
*TIMESKIP*
Yui: Haah, that was so much fun...!
Subaru: In what world!? ...The only thing I felt was shame!
For one...I was goin’ to sit down in one of the carriages...
But that darn employee...How dare they seat us on one of those stupid horses...!?
I’m sendin’ them flyin’ the next time we meet...!
Yui: ( Well, it was a little embarrassing to ride the horse together... )
I enjoyed riding together with you. Thank you, Subaru-kun.
Subaru: ...
Well...I guess it’s fine if you had fun...But I’m never gettin’ on that thing again!
Clown A: ーー Sorry for the wait!
Yui: Y-You’re the clown from earlier...
Subaru: Did you find it?
Clown A: Well...As we feared, it’s too old of a model so we didn’t have any left in stock.
Subaru: Haah!?
Yui: N-No way...!
Clown A: However, they might still have it over at the dress shop in town!
Yui: Dress shop...
( I suppose we should try heading there then. )
Thank you for the valuable piece of information. We’ll try our luck there next.
Clown A: Yes. Be careful...!
ー The scene shifts to Aizen Alleyway
Subaru: ーー So where’s this dress shop?
Yui: Yeah...According to the map we received earlier, it should be around here.
I suppose it could be that place attracting a crowd over there...?
Subaru: A crowd...? I’ve had enough of those.
Yui: Ahaha, right...
( However, is this bad hunch just overthinking on my part...? )
ー They enter the dress shop
Yui: ...
Subaru: ...
Why is it this crowded in here as well...!?
Yui: Y-Yeah...
( The bad feeling I had became reality...! )
Um...Excuse me. Is something going to happen here?
Female Vampire A: Yes. The fashion show is about to start.
Yui: Fashion show!?
If their show is about to start, I’m sure the staff will be busy...
Subaru: Yeah...This crowd is getting on my nerves as well. Let’s wait somewhere else till it’s over.
Yui: Yeah...Guess we should...
( I’m kind of curious what a fashion show in the Demon World looks like thoughーー )
???: Ah! Hey! Wait, you!
Subaru: Aah?
Yui: ( Hm...? )
???: Come with me, please!
ー She pulls Subaru along
*Rustle*
Subaru: Aah!? The fuck do you want all of a sudden!?
Dress shop owner: I’m the owner of this place! I’ll explain the details in the back, just come with me for now!
*Rustle*
Subaru: Oi, wait!
Yui: Ah, hey...!
( What is going on...? Guess I’ll follow them for now... )
ー The scene shifts to the changing room
Yui: ( We were taken to the back of the store... )
Dress shop owner: I’m sorry this is a little sudden, but could you please change into this outfit?
Subaru: Haah!? This is more than ‘a little’ sudden! The fuck do you want!?
Dress shop owner: ...Right. I suppose I was a little too pushy...
We’re actually about to get started with our fashion show...
However, I’ve been in quite the pinch since I was unable to find a model to wear my best creation.
We did find a substitute, but they just don’t fit the image I have in mind.
Then you appeared in front of me! You’re the perfect fit!
Yui: ( Subaru-kun...A model... )
Subaru: Fuck off! You must be mental if you think I’m doin’ that shit!
Dress shop owner: Oh no! I will have you be my model!
I’m sure my clothes would be overjoyed to be worn by you as well!
Subaru: Hmph, bullshit. Oi, we’re leavin’.
ー Subaru starts walking away
Yui: Ah, but...
( We have to ask her about the mask... )
( And above all... )
( I’m very much interested in seeing Subaru-kun take part in a fashion show...! )
Say, Subaru-kun...Why not take this opportunity to participate?
Subaru: Aah!? Have you hit your head as well!?
Yui: ...Oh come on, please?
Also...Lend me your ear for a bit?
Subaru: Aah?
*Rustle*
Yui: It might be a good chance to ask about the mask...!
Subaru: ...
Dress shop owner: I don’t know what you’re whispering about but...
I’d like to ask you for your cooperation as well. I’m convinced you’ll be the best model for this outfit!
Subaru: ...
...Gimme that. I’ll go change.
*Rustle*
Yui: Subaru-kun...!
Dress shop owner: Oh my! Thank you so much! This way, please!
Yui: ( I can’t wait to see what it’ll look like...! )
*TIMESKIP*
ー The scene shifts to the main street
*Snap snap*
Yui: ( All of the models have such great figures. (2) I can only dream to look like that... )
( I wonder when it’ll be Subaru-kun’s turn...? )
Dress shop owner: Well then, to wrap up the show, we have none other than my pride and joy!
Yui: ( Ah, there he is...! )
*Snap snap snap*
Monologue
Subaru-kun’s appearance as he set foot on the stage,
was so handsome,
he made the whole crowd swoon.
...He did seem somewhat grumpy though.
Perhaps it’s due to the different style of clothes,
but it felt refreshing to me.
Standing next to him,
was the shop clerk from earlierーー
who looked equally stunning.
However...I could not help but grow a little curious,
as this seemingly picture-perfect duo,
seemed to be whispering something to each other.
Dress shop owner: Just look at how ecstatic everyone is...!
Come on, you should wave at the crowd as well!
*Smack*
Subaru: ーー Get your hands off me.
Yui: ( Ah...! He slapped away her hand. )
Subaru: I’m already taken. (3) Go try your luck with some other guy.
Dress shop owner: Oh dear...
...Fufu, could it be that young lady?
Subaru: ...Hmph.
Yui: ( I just hope he won’t start another fight... )
*TIMESKIP*
Yui: ーー Subaru-kun!
Subaru: ...Ah, there you are.
Yui: Ah...You already changed it seems.
Subaru: Well, duh. You really think I was gonna stay in that get-up forever?
Yui: ( I’d love to tell Subaru-kun my thoughts on his performance from earlier while I have the chance...Now how to put it? )
Selection
→ You looked interesting
Yui: Um...You looked interesting just now, you know!
Subaru: Funny...Aah? Are you makin’ fun of me!?
Yui: Eh!? Ah, I didn’t mean it like that...I just thought you looked very precious while going down the catwalk wearing something you usually wouldn’t.
Subaru: Please make it clear whether you’re complimenting or insulting me...
Yui: ...Sorry.
( I should have just genuinely complimented him. )
Subaru: Then what were you tryin’ to say?
Yui: Well...You know, I just thought
→ You looked handsome (☾)
Yui: You were very handsome just now!
Subaru: Y-You think so? I didn’t do anythin’ special though.
Yui: That’s not true. The clothes fit you to a T as well...!
Subaru: ...Thanks.
Dress shop owner: Thank you so much for earlier. Thanks to you, the show was a big success.
Subaru: I did as you asked earlier, so now you have to listen to one of our requests.
Dress shop owner: What could that be? I will gladly help where I can.
Subaru: ...Does this picture ring a bell? We’re lookin’ for it.
Dress shop owner: ...Oh my, we have this in our storage room. I’ll go get it so wait here, okay?
*TIMESKIP*
Dress shop owner: ーー Is this it?
*Rustle*
Yui: Ah, that’s it!
Dress shop owner: I don’t see myself using it any time soon so...If you need it, you can have it.
*Rustle*
Yui: Thank you very much! We did it, Subaru-kun!
Subaru: Hmph...I honestly have no idea why that guy even wants this relic of the past...
Whatever. Anyway, we’re goin’ back to that geezer’s place pronto!
Yui: Good idea. Ah, thank you so much, truly!
Dress shop owner: I’m just glad I was able to return the favor. Please feel free to drop by again anytime!
*TIMESKIP*
ー The scene shifts back to the antiques shop
Subaru: ーー Here! Happy now?
*Thud*
Antique dealer: Ooh! This is it! I didn’t think you’d actually be able to find it!
Subaru: Honestly, I don’t get why you want this crap.
But...We cleared the first hurdle now, right?
Antique dealer: Yeah, of course. I’ll be counting on you two again tomorrow!
ー The scene shifts to the Diamante Fountain
Subaru: Haah...I’m beat...
Yui: We haven’t been able to catch a break right from day one, huh...?
Ah, I got us some churros from that food truck over there. Want some?
Subaru: Yeah...Nn...
...Guess it’s true that sweets are the best thing to eat when you’re tired...
Yui: Fufu...
( Still, so much stuff went down today. )
( I hope we can get through tomorrow as well... )
Subaru: Don’t look so worried. ...I’m here with you, remember?
Yui: Yeah...!
( Right, as long as I’m together with Subaru-kun, I’m sure everything will turn out fine...! )
( Okay, I’ll try my best again tomorrow! )
ーー TO BE CONTINUED ーー
Translation notes
(1) In Japanese, he calls her チンクシャ or ‘chinkusha’, which is a very rude term used to describe women who have a flat/small nose and are therefore considered ugly.
I looked up similar slang terms in English and ‘shovel face’ seemed like the best fit.
(2) スタイルがいい or ‘style ga ii’ actually refers more to someone’s body type/figure, rather than their fashion style, even when talking about models.
(3) Literally he says that he has already been booked, using the word 予約 or ‘yoyaku’, which you would also use when booking a hotel room or a restaurant.

pairings: levi ackerman x reader
themes: enemies to lovers, slowburn, angst, fluff, smut
tw: violence / explicit sexual content
word count: 2006
When you woke up, the sky was so dim you almost would've said it was still night. The softest of light poured into the room and lit the shelves, the sheets, and the outline of Levi's face elegantly. Your vision danced around the room a bit, still dazed. Your hair surrounded you in a mess of tangles. Your eyes grew heavier the more you forced them open. Sleep still partially blinded you, leaving the room a bit fuzzy-looking -- but you could tell he was still awake. "Levi?" you croaked out softly, your voice still dressed in fatigue. "How long have I been asleep?" You tried to lift your head, but the pillow pulled it gently back down.
"Not long enough. A few hours," he replied quietly, as you noticed a teapot and cup on the table next to the both of you, still fuzzy -- maybe blue? Your eyes tried to flutter back shut, but you held them open a bit longer.
"I don't sleep much," you told him, your consciousness half gone. "I have nightmares." You let your eyes shut this time, still listening for his reply.
"You haven't seemed to have them tonight," he answered. You heard the teacup clink against the pot, then the sound of him sipping it slowly.
"No, not tonight. Not sure why." With that, you began to drift, his words molding into your dreamworld until you were entirely submerged.
---
Hange squealed with joy as you took another step, one hand holding on to Jean's shoulder and the other on Connie's. "You'll be back in training within two weeks, tops! You've healed excellently!"
You stopped for a split second, your grip tightening a bit on your friends' shoulders as you processed what she just said. "Two more weeks? I thought I just finished the two weeks. I'm supposed to be fine now." You groaned, leaning on Jean a bit.
"Two weeks to heal. We can't have you back in combat training tomorrow. That would be absurd," Hange said innocently, excitement still dripping from their voice. "But this is progress! If we keep doing this kind of thing everyday you'll be just fine. You'll be walking on your own in a week!" Connie ruffled your hair a bit, and you tried to shake it back into place.
"Can I sit down now?" you asked, unable to hide the disappointment in your voice. You used your friends for support until you could plop defeatedly into one of the chairs against the wall. The two of them sat next to you, Jean's arm propped up behind your back and Connie's behind his head. You ran one hand through your hair, smoothing it from Connie's abuse, while the other gripped the arm of the wooden chair. "Can I at least sleep in my own bed?" you requested, smiling halfheartedly at Hange.
They frowned a bit, like they felt bad. "I don't think that would be wise. Were there an accident, it would be dangerous for it to happen when no one was in the barracks. It's best if you stay there; it won't be too much longer." You let your head fall back onto Jean's arm and let out a deep sigh.
After a while longer, Jean carried you back to your infirmary room, complaining about your weight for at least eight minutes of the ten-minute walk. The sky was orange and pink as the sun began its trek downward; it was beautiful, but it reminded you of the dark and lonely night ahead. Two more weeks felt like years.
As he laid you down, you huffed. "I have one hell of a bone to pick with you, Jean Kirstein. I should have let the titan eat your scrawny ass," you told him, smacking his arm lightly. "I take care of the damsel in distress, and I get a broken leg out of it. It's fucked up."
He snorted, a grin running across his lips. "Yeah, I hear you." He rubbed the side of your shoulder gently. "You need me to stay tonight, or are you okay?"
"I'm good, Jean. Levi actually stayed with me last night," you said, yawning. You were confused when his eyebrows fell together and his mouth drew up in disgust.
"Is this an Eren situation? With Captain Levi? That's so gross. He's, like, old." You watched him hold back laughter.
You gagged jokingly, utterly confused on how he came to that conclusion. "Dude, no. What the fuck? He just helped me get to the bathroom. Don't be weird." You almost started to laugh with him. "And I don't even think he's much older than us, dumbass."
"Seriously, though, spending the night with Captain Levi? You can't expect me to believe nothing's going on there. Since when does he --"
"Since when do I what, Kirstein?" Levi's voice came from the doorway, a teacup and pot in either of his hands. "Do you always come up with such repulsive theories, or is this a joke?" With his voice unchanging, you were unsure of if he was joking or genuinely angry. When it's Levi, it's often safer to assume anger.
"I was just kidding, sir," Jean replied, small laughs still hidden behind his tongue. "But I was wondering -- since when are you infirmary security?" You chuckled under your breath, putting your arms under your head and getting comfortable. Jean's hand still rested on your shoulder.
"Since I found her alone last night on her ass in the hallway, literally dragging herself to the restroom. It was an embarrassing show." You frowned, imagining how you must've looked in front of him. Jean looked back at you mockingly, eyes wide and a smile covering his face. You groaned as you watched Jean improvise a replay of the event in his head, a chuckle bubbling up from his throat. "I carried her the rest of the way and back, and when we got here, I elected to stay with her since no one else was for her safety. It would be inconvenient for her leg to be injured again." Levi started inside, getting his tea set up on the table dividing the bed and the wooden chair. "I don't really sleep, anyway. I have nothing better to do."
"I would've stayed, if you didn't kick me out," Jean said to you, the corners of his lips pulling down minutely.
"You can't sleep in a chair every night for a month. You'll be in here with a bad back in no time," you replied. He nodded, his lips creeping back up into a grin.
"Get to sleep, okay? Lots to do tomorrow." He leaned down and kissed your forehead before turning and walking towards the door.
"Night, Jean. See you tomorrow," you called as you saw him shut the door behind him. you looked over at Levi, pouring a fresh cup of tea. "You're here early tonight." You watched him pick up the cup by the rim and swirl it around a bit before lifting it to his pursed lips.
"Moving my things from my suite last night was a pain. I preferred to just have a seat and not have to run any errands. I thought Jean wasn't your boyfriend? Your social life is a bit confusing, you know," he sipped from his cup again, holding eye contact with you and intently waiting for your answer. When you laughed, one of his eyebrows raised.
"Yeah, Jean definitely isn't my boyfriend. We're just close. If you keep making assumptions like that, you'll have to run me to the bathroom so I can puke." You watched one corner of his mouth turn up ever so slightly. Was this his version of a laugh? "And it was super fucked up to use the word "repulsive," you know. I plan to tell my therapist that you impacted my self esteem." You didn't see a change in his strange little micro-smile. It felt nice to see some expression in his face.
"I guess I wouldn't use the word repulsive," he told you. "I'm trying to think of a better word -- disgusting?"
"Fuck off," you snorted, giggling.
Levi wasn't the most talkative person you knew by any means, but you managed to get a bit more conversation out of him before you drifted slowly off to sleep.
Again, you weren't met with nightmares. Nor were you the two nights that followed, as long as he sat quietly at your bedside. On the fifth night, you noticed a second teacup in his hand as he entered the room. It was a small gesture, but it made you smile. Levi had moved the table so it sat directly between the two of you. He sat across from you as he poured the tea, careful not to spill a drop. You sipped it lightly, finally having enough strength to sit straight up in your bed without any pain. The two of you chatted briefly before returning to the comfortable silence you had started to grow accustomed to. These nights with Levi were strange, of course, but they were also peaceful. Loneliness was your worst enemy, especially as you stared at the ceiling in the dark infirmary room by yourself all those nights. He, at the very least, curbed that terrible feeling.
You lifted the cup to your lips yet again and frowned as you looked down to find it empty. "I'm all out," you said, reaching for the pot. He had the same thought, and your hands brushed momentarily as your eyes met. You pulled back, somewhat quickly, and allowed him to pour you another.
"You aren't nearly as insufferable as you were a few weeks ago," he commented bluntly as he set the pot back on the table. You chuckled, growing used to his dryness, causing that small upturn of one corner of his lip to return.
"Neither are you, Levi. Still insufferable, but not nearly so," you replied, leaning forward and resting your chin on one of your hands.
"I still don't appreciate your disrespect," he said. You rolled your eyes half-heartedly.
"It would be weird to call you Captain while we're having tea. You can be casual once in a while, you know." You grinned into the teacup as you saw him raise an eyebrow. You knew it didn't warrant a reply.
Back to the silence. The two of you sat there quietly for a bit, finishing your tea. You started to begin the process of turning to lay down and get comfortable, but Levi's calm voice interrupted you. "You were half asleep the other night; I'm not sure if you remember. You told me you usually have nightmares, and you don't sleep much."
You shrugged, nodding your head. "Yeah, that's true. It's been that way for a few years now. You're right though, I don't remember." You felt a bit of blood retreat to your cheeks, embarrassment flooding you.
"You also said you didn't have them that first night, and you've slept well each night I've been here. They must not be too bad," he said, his voice almost hinting at inquisitive.
You furrowed your brow, recounting the dreams of the previous four nights. "No, no, they're usually awful. I wake up in the night pretty often, if I can get to sleep in the first place. It's strange, I haven't had any since you started sitting with me." You thought about that for a moment, then smiled. "Maybe they're afraid of humanity's strongest," you teased, a yawn erupting from your lips.
You watched his little grin again. "Perhaps they are."
You turned over and burrowed under the thin blanket that adorned you. You nuzzled your head tightly into your pillow and allowed your eyes to shut, breathing out in comfort. You opened one eye ever so slightly, seeing Levi looking at you absentmindedly. His teacup hung gracefully from his fingers. He took a sip from it before setting it down quietly, then pushed the table back into its place.
"Goodnight, Levi," you said, not expecting an answer. You shut your eye again and started to feel yourself drift. As everything faded to black, you heard him reply.
"Goodnight."

very suspicious minds
at the heart of the suffering with avpd is suspicion. suspicion of the world around us, the people around us, their actions and what they means for us and potentially our safety. every micro-expression, unconscious body language is taken apart and evaluated.
in my case, it is from here that everything else fans out. avoidance, hypervigilence, anxiety to do the simplest things such as run errands, talking on the phone, sending job applications, interacting with people, epecially new people... at the core of it all is the suspicion that nothing is as it seems. that there is some plot i am unaware of and need to stay away from.
pre-avpd, i was still a child, i never thought i was important enough or had done anything egregious enough to warrant anyone “plotting” against me. it just didn’t make sense. i was not a bully, i was not popular enough to warrant jealousy from other kids. i was just average and had no enemies to speak of, who does at eleven?
i think it is because of this (and my trigger, explained here) that my mind grew overly suspicious of everyone and everything. if there had been something to explain the behaviour of my bullies, outside of the fact that they just didn’t like me, i think i would have been able to stomach it better, i don’t know. but there was no reason behind their bullying, which meant from then on, my brain was going to watch out and try to protect me from anyone and everything. whether i liked it or not.
it is normal to be nervous when interacting with new people, whether we’re kids or grown ups. after all as humans, we natually do not want to be rejected or abandoned by the group. as a “former” extrovert i still remember the thrill of walking up to kids on the playground or at family gatherings excited that i had found someone to play with. however, the thrill/fear that i felt then was small and didn’t stop me from interacting, i just pushed through it. and even if there was rejection and they didn’t want to play, the rejection didn’t linger, i would simply find someone else, or play on my own in the meantime.
however, post-avpd, my mind has never been the same and it started slowly. after that summer, we moved again and i changed schools again. i remember telling myself that this time things would be different, after all i had finally left those insufferable girls behind me. in fact i remember walking up to them, after all that had happened, and telling them that i would be moving away soon and wouldn’t have to deal with their bullshit anymore. lil eleven year old me actually told off her bullies, can you imagine?!
anyway, the new school full of new kids was upon me, but i just couldn’t stop the programing that was suddenly running in the back of my brain. suspicion.exe had been started and there was no way to turn it off. every friendly face i encountered felt like it might be hiding a smirk, like it might just be a ploy to get me to let my guard down. after all, exactly that had just happened and it had nearly cost me my life. how was i to know what was genuine and what was a plot? i kept my guard up and slowly turned cold.
i’m sure puberty hormones as well as age played into this as well, but i also became extremely fearful of humiliation and embarassment. not exactly the best thing when you’re at an age where you’re supposed to be learning to make mistakes, grow up and do many things for the first time. but mistakes = embarassment and potential for humiliation. and that meant possible rejection, abandonment or even worse, so the avoidance slowly crept in. i started avoiding other kids, activities, places, etc... unless i was 100% sure i would be safe somehow.
my mother said she observed me, the playground aficionado and lover of swings and slides everywhere, back away from one and insist on going home when i saw a group of kids there. this had been unheard of before, but she just assumed i was growing older and didn’t want to play childishly anymore. little did she know that everything had become a potential trap for humiliation to me, speaking to other kids, speaking to boys, saying something in class, etc...
a few years after that, i viscerally remember being afraid to order something from mcdonalds on my own. this is coming from someone who had spent every visit as a child in those god forsaken ballpits. but suddenly, i just couldn’t, couldn’t even go inside the restaurant. just picturing myself going to mcdonalds, set me off and made me feel ill. if it hadn’t been for a friend who unknowingly gave me a tutorial on how to do it, i would never have stepped foot in one ever again.
making friends became hell, because i seemingly couldn’t read people anymore, couldn’t decide whom to trust and whom not to. in fact, pre-avpd trust had never even crossed my mind. we either got along or we didn’t. if we did we were friends, otherwise we weren’t, no hard feelings. now, i suddenly found myself trying to figure out whom it was even safe to even talk to and whom not. all the while suspicion.exe rattled away in my brain, constantly making me feel i was in danger. looking back, i can say that every friendship i have ever had since (an they are not many), has been somewhat onesided from my end. i never revealed my true feelings, fears and problems, since those too were potential sources of humiliation. and i didn’t trust anyone enough to not use that against me. even though i had several bffs during my teen years, girls with whom i hung out one on one for years on end, i can say that non of them knew what was actually going on in my head, because i never told them. i wore a mask, a mask that was essentially me but watered down, and nothing real ever came to the surface. in fact this level of trust, that you could just tell your friend what you are really thinking and feeling or whom you have a crush on or some other secret thing, is alien to me now that i think about it.
a lot has happened since then obviously, i’ll probably return to this subject again, to explain how suspicion has affected me since. but i can sadly say that that programing is still running today. with other settings of course, but it’s still there. i should also add, none of this was conscious. i was doing all these things, but i wasn’t even aware. only in looking back am i able to connect the dots like this.

Character Story - Nishikiyama (Junior High Student) [RGGO]
Wow, 3 stories in 1 week, I’m on a roll! But I’m slowing down now, cuz the Daigo one’s pretty long, and I need to get back to studying to make up for the oral revalida I bombed XD
Anyway now it’s time for Baby Koi Boi, the partner card to Baby Dragon! I’ve always loved Nishiki, but I think I love him even more now because of this, he’s just so much more emotional and passionate than anyone else in the series <3
Also! According to this, Junior High spans from 13 to 16 years of age (cuz its 1984). Sooo it’s slightly less weird to imagine 16-year-old-pornstached Kazama buying a porn mag in Kiryu’s story XD
Story: Yuko, who STILL doesn’t get a character sprite even in RGGO, tells her big brother that she has a boyfriend. Nishiki freaks out.
Nishiki, beating up a poor civilian: “That’s for dating my sister!!!!”
Innocent civilian, getting beaten up by an angry teen: “I don’t even know who you are!!!!”
Note: In Chapter 3, the term “jealous of jealousy” or ヤキモチを妬く is used. Based on this article that took me ages to search, it means something along the lines of “gaining a crush on someone you’re jealous of” (kinda like tsunderes in anime I think) or “having a crush on someone who has a crush on someone else” or “wanting someone all to yourself”, with a hint of “love is blind”. But all of those are phrases MUCH too loaded for me to be including in here on the shaky basis of one google-translated article, so I’m leaving it as is. (But if someone who knows Japanese can confirm or deny it, please tell me so I can edit and put in the right term!)
.
CHAPTER 1
.
|One day in 1984. When Nishikiyama Akira and Kiryu Kazuma were still in junior high school . . . |
[Theater Square]
Junior high school girl A: “Ah, Nishikiyama-kun! Yoo-hoo!”
Nishikiyama: “Hey.”
Junior high school girl B: “We’re all heading to the arcade. Come join us, Nishikiyama-kun!”
Nishikiyama: “No, I can’t. I have somewhere to go today.”
Junior high school girl B: “Ehh~! . . . Oh, that’s right. Sorry for disturbing you.”
Nishikiyama: “I’m sorry, please invite me again some other time.”
Junior high school girl A: “Yeah, see you next time!”
{Nishiki leaves.}
Junior high school girl B: “. . . That’s right, Nishikiyama-kun is visiting his younger sister today.”
Junior high school girl A: “Nishikiyama-kun really cares about his sister. I’m a little jealous~.”
----
[Hospital]
Nishikiyama: “Yo.”
Yuko: “Onii-chan.”
Nishikiyama: “How are you doing?”
Yuko: “Same as usual. Onii-chan, won’t you be in trouble with Kazama-san?”
Nishikiyama: “That’s nothing to concern yourself about.”
Yuko: “Is that so. Good luck-”
Nishikiyama: “Easy, easy. Just lie down.”
Yuko: “But . . .”
Nishikiyama: “I just dropped by to see you. I’ll go home soon.”
Yuko: “. . . I really worry for my Onii-chan.”
Nishikiyama: “Shut up, it’s not like that. . . . Hm? Yuko, what’s with those live flowers?”
Yuko: “Oh, these? They’re called Phalaenopsis orchids. Aren’t they beautiful?”
Nishikiyama: “Yeah, they look really extravagant.”
Yuko: “Yup. . . . Y-You know what?”
Nishikiyama: “Hm?”
Yuko: “Th-This is . . . a gift from my lover.”
Nishikiyama: “. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .”
Yuko: “A-Ahaha. What do you think, Onii-chan-”
Nishikiyama: “. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .”
Yuko: “. . . Onii-chan? You’re suddenly quiet, is everything okay?”
Nishikiyama: “. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .”
Nishikiyama: “. . . Ha! Y-Yeah. I was spacing out a little. Okay, okay. I’m perfectly fine. 100 percent. Perfect. Yup. Everything’s fine. There’s no problem at all. Onii-chan’s not going home yet, I just remembered a little errand I have to do.”
{Nishiki runs out.}
Yuko: “Eh?! A little- Onii-chan!”
----
[Pink Street]
Nishikiyama: (A lover? To Yuko? Yuko and a lover? A lover and Yuko? Lover? Lover? Lover? She has a lover???? She’s still a kid? But she has a lover? A lover? I can’t believe it. I can’t believe it . . .)
High school girl: “Kyaa! Please stop!”
Hooligan A: “You want me to do something good to you, don’t you?”
Hooligan B: “Yeah yeah, come feel good with us!”
High school girl: “I hate you! Let go!”
Nishikiyama: “A lover . . . to Yuko . . . mumble.”
{Nishiki distractedly walks into the hooligans.}
Hooligan A: “Hey! Watch where you’re going!!”
Nishikiyama: “mumble . . . mumble . . .”
Hooligan B: “Hey, bro. You can’t just bump into someone and then ignore them-“
{Nishiki swings around to throw his fist into the guy’s face.}
Hooligan B: “Hgugh?!“
Nishikiyama: “Shut up!!!! I’m dealing with something right now!!!!”
Hooligan A: “Huh?! Th-Th-This bastard . . . don’t think you’ll scare us off by yelling!!”
Hooligan B: “Punching me out of nowhere . . . I’ll kill you!!”
{Nishiki beats the crap out of the hooligans and sends them running.}
High school girl: “U-Um, thank you very much!”
Nishikiyama: “. . . mumble.”
High school girl: “U-um . . . ?”
Nishikiyama: “No but, Yuko with a lover . . . she never said anything about it and then suddenly . . .”
{Nishiki wanders off, still mumbling to himself.}
High school girl: “I-I wonder what’s up with that person . . .”
----
Nishikiyama: “. . . Damn it. I can’t get my head straight. Calm down. I need to calm down . . . ! Inhale~. Exhale~. Inhale~. Exhale~. Okay, taking a deep breath to calm down. I’m perfectly calm now. Now that I’m thinking with a calm head, I can clearly see what I must do. Yuko’s lover . . .”
Nishikiyama: “I’m going to find that guy and kick his ass!!!!”
.

.
CHAPTER 2
.
Nishikiyama: (Yuko’s lover . . . what an arrogant bastard with a bouquet . . . Well, it was Phalaenopsis orchids. The flowers look expensive. Maybe he’s a criminal whose modus is a bouquet of flowers! Wait, I can use the bouquet as a clue-)
Drunk A: “So? What happened to the woman in question?”
Drunk B: “It’s perfect! Women are simple after all . . . it was easy!”
Drunk A: “Seriously? But I feel sorry for the woman though. Doesn’t she know you have a second?”
Drunk B: “Idiot, it’s not just two, I have five! It’s my technique so I can drop a woman anytime!”
Drunk A: “Five?! You’re the worst! Gyahahaha!”
Drunk B: “Hehe, I even gave one of the women a bouquet! That’s right-“
{Nishiki suddenly punches the five-timing drunk.}
Drunk B: “Bgyagh?!“
Nishikiyama: “You gave the bouquet . . . ? So you’re the culprit!!!!”
Drunk A: “Eh? Eh . . . ?”
Nishikiyama: “Playing with Yuko’s heart is a sin . . . I’ll make you regret it!!!!”
{Nishiki beats up the drunks.}
Drunk A: “O-Oi! Of your five women, are any of them this guy’s little sister?”
Drunk B: “No way! All five of them are older than me . . . !!”
Nishikiyama: “Oi . . .”
Drunks: “Yes?!”
Nishikiyama: “Didn’t you deliver that bouquet to Yuko’s hospital room?”
Drunk B: “W-W-W-W-Wrong! I gave that bouquet to Machiko, a cabaret girl!!”
Nishikiyama: “. . . I see. Don’t be so misleading next time. Jeez.”
Drunks: “We’re sorry!!!!”
Nishikiyama: (Damn it. If I don’t do anything, the culprit won’t be revealed. How do I figure out the criminal . . . )
Nishikiyama: “No, wait a minute. There IS a clue . . . !”
Drunks: “Yes?”
Nishikiyama: “You bought a luxurious bouquet to give to a woman, where did you buy it?”
----
[West Shichifuku Street]
Nishikiyama: “It should be in this area. Here . . .”
Nishikiyama: (According to the drunkard, there’s a flower shop in this place. I have no idea who Yuko’s lover is, but maybe if I find out where he bought the bouquet that he gave her . . .)
Nishikiyama: “What was the flower again . . . a Phalaenopsis orchid? I suppose I should ask who bought them.”
Flower Seller: “Welcome! Oh? . . . I have a lot of cute customers today.”
Nishikiyama: “. . . Do you mean me?”
Flower Seller: “Ah, sorry for saying that out of nowhere. Earlier today a boy in a school uniform around your age came to the store.”
Nishikiyama: “Hey . . . is that unusual? A customer of my age . . .”
Flower Seller: “Yeah. Unless it’s Mother’s Day, a child your age has no reason to come to a flower shop, isn’t that right?”
Nishikiyama: “Definitely . . . if you ask me, then yeah. I wanted to know, did anyone come by today to buy Phalaenopsis orchids?”
Flower Seller: “Phalaenopsis orchids? I think that boy I mentioned just now bought some?”
Nishikiyama: “! I-Is that true?! What kind of guy is he?! Do you remember his name or what he looked like?!”
Flower Seller: “He’s just like you, a strong-looking kid who seems like he gets into fights. His name was . . . ah, right.”
Flower Seller: “It was Kiryu-san.”
Nishikiyama: “. . . ha?”

CHAPTER 3
.
[Champion District - Empty Lot]
Nishikiyama: “Yo, Kiryu. I’ve been waiting for you.”
Kiryu: “Nishiki . . . why did you call me out here all of a sudden?”
Nishikiyama: “Kiryu . . . do you have something to tell me?”
Kiryu: “Something to tell you . . . ? No, nothing in particular . . .”
Nishikiyama: “Is that right . . .”
Kiryu: “What are you angry about? Does it have something to do with what you want me to say?”
Nishikiyama: “Kiryu . . . earlier today, did you deliver a bouquet to Yuko?”
Kiryu: “!”
Nishikiyama: “. . . the look on your face tells me I’m right. Since when did you start sneaking around?”
Kiryu: “I wasn’t sneaking around . . . it started the day before yesterday.”
Nishikiyama: “What, that’s quite recent.”
Kiryu: “Yeah.”
Nishikiyama: “. . . Was it your idea?”
Kiryu: “No, it was originally Oyassan’s idea.”
Nishikiyama: “O-Oyassan?!”
Kiryu: “Yeah. He said he was sure it’ll make you and Yuko happy.”
Nishikiyama: “Why . . . did you keep quiet about this?”
Kiryu: “I was . . . going to surprise you.”
Nishikiyama: “I see . . . certainly, I was surprised to death . . .”
Kiryu: “Then what are you angry about? Did Yuko not like the bouquet?”
Nishikiyama: “No, she was very happy with it. Did you choose those flowers yourself?”
Kiryu: “That was also Oyassan’s idea. Phalaenopsis orchids mean ‘happiness soars’, apparently.”
Nishikiyama: “Tch! You keep saying Oyassan this, Oyassan that . . . Kiryu, what are YOUR feelings on this matter? You aren’t saying that’s ‘Oyassan’s idea’ too, are you?”
Kiryu: “It’s not like that. I followed Oyassan’s suggestion because it aligned with my feelings.”
Nishikiyama: “Is that right . . . so it really was you . . . to think I thought you were a good guy . . . damn you . . .”
Kiryu: “Nishiki, what on earth are you so angry about?”
Nishikiyama: “. . . Don’t you know?”
Kiryu: “I don’t know, I’m drawing a blank. . . . Could it be? Are you jealous of your jealousy for me?”
Nishikiyama: “Yeah, that’s right. I’m jealous. I’m burning you with my jealousy, Kiryu!”
Kiryu: “So you’re jealous . . . because the other party is your sister?”
Nishikiyama: “Yes because she’s my sister! And my sister is important to me, so that’s why I’m angry with you!”
Kiryu: “I see . . . I get it now. Yuko is your dear sister, so I should have consulted you properly about this. My bad . . . the line is different in matters like this, and I crossed it. How can I make it up to you?”
Nishikiyama: “Duel with me, Kiryu . . . !! A no-holds-barred, one-on-one battle!! I’ll use my fists to make you pay for this . . . !!”
Kiryu: “Okay, I understand. If this will make you feel better, then I’ll accept your challenge with my whole power!!”
Nishikiyama: “Let’s go! Kiryu!!!!”
{Nishiki and Kiryu duke it out in the lot.}
Nishikiyama: “Jeez, as usual you’re still stupidly strong . . . Oww . . .”
Kiryu: “Haa . . . haa . . . So, are you done . . . Nishiki?”
Nishikiyama: “Yeah . . . thanks. It’s regrettable, but I have to admit . . . you being Yuko’s guy, she really does have a discerning eye for people!! To be her lover . . . no one would be more suitable than you!”
Nishikiyama: “I’ll accept it!! You and Yuko . . . dating!! . . . I’ll have to ask Yuko about this matter . . . kyoudai? From now on, call me Onii-san.”
Kiryu: “. . . Nishiki. What are you talking about?”
Nishikiyama: “Huh? Oi, oi. Yuko’s bouquet of flowers in the hospital room, that was given by you. Isn’t that true?”
Kiryu: “Yeah, that’s right.”
Nishikiyama: “So that means you’re Yuko’s boyfriend. . . . Am I wrong?”
Kiryu: “Why would that make it so?”
Nishikiyama: “Aren’t you Yuko’s lover?”
Kiryu: “L-Lover . . . ?! Oi, what are you saying?!”
Nishikiyama: “. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .”
Nishikiyama: “. . . I’m sorry, could you give me a minute, Kiryu? I’m going to make a phone call.”
Kiryu: “Y-Yeah. Go ahead.”
----
[Phone Booth]
Yuko: “Hello, Onii-chan?”
Nishikiyama: “Hey, Yuko. About that lover you mentioned earlier-“
Yuko: “. . . I’m sorry. Onii-chan, that was all a lie.”
Nishikiyama: “! S-So that’s all it was . . . But- But why did you . . .”
Yuko: “I’m really sorry. . . . I was reading a book.”
Nishikiyama: “A book . . . ?”
Yuko: “Yup. A story of a sick girl like me getting a bouquet from a dreamy boy and falling in love with them . . . When I read that, I got jealous . . . I’m a fool. There’s no way something like that will happen to me. I lied so that even for a brief moment, I could be like that girl in the book. You were so shocked. I’m really sorry . . .”
Nishikiyama: “. . . So it was all a lie?”
Yuko: “Um-hm . . .”
Nishikiyama: “. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .”
Nishikiyama: “Haaaaaaa~~~!! I’m so relieved~~~~~~~~!!!!”
Yuko: “Eh?!”
Nishikiyama: “My hair was turning white already . . . No, what you did was bad and it’s good that you told me, but . . . Anyway, can you make things clearer next time? And if you do meet a really good guy . . . tell me first, okay?”
Yuko: “Okay . . . Onii-chan, thank you.”
Nishikiyama: “Oh! I’ll come see you tomorrow.”
Yuko: “Okay, see you tomorrow.”
Nishikiyama: (Haa~. I got absolutely played by my sister’s cute lie . . . )
Kiryu: “Nishiki, you’ve been gone for a long time. Are you alright?”
Nishikiyama: “. . . K-Kiryu.”
Kiryu: “Hm?”
Nishikiyama: “Kill me~~~~!!!! I’m sooo embarrassed~~!!!!”
Kiryu: “???? What is it, Nishiki . . . ? Ah, no, I mean Onii-san . . .”
.

“What are you handing me those for?” you asked when the man you had arranged to meet with at eleven shook your hand in greeting and then placed a pair of gumboots up on the hood of your car. You eyed the footwear and then looked back at Avery McConnell with interest.
Avery chuckled. “I know how expensive those boots are.”
“It’s not muddy, though. I’ve come at the end of spring.”
“You’re in for an awakening, Y/N. Trust me, put them on.”
You took Avery’s advice and followed him over to his truck. Climbing inside, you then glanced at your guide. “Thank you for meeting with me today.”
“Hey, it’s my pleasure. Always nice to see a new face once every three or so years,” he teased, and you laughed with him.
“So I’m learning. Not many venture out here.”
“It would be nice if people did.”
“Right?!” you enthused instantly, gesturing to the mountain ranges in the distance. “This place has so much untapped potential.”
“You won’t get to un-tap it, Y/N,” Avery told you upfront as he swung the vehicle out onto the main road. “But I wish there was a happy medium. If we could create more jobs and better housing, it would improve our farming. It’s hard to get help to come out here when services like Amazon don’t.”
“Wait, they don’t?!” you groaned heavily at the concept of not being able to order coffee pods in bulk.
“You’ll have to set up a PO Box in the township over. And if you need to have any internet meetings, it’ll be best to do them there too. The internet reaches out here, but the signal drops so frequently that no one bothers.”
“Why hasn’t anyone asked for services to be improved?” you asked and Avery smiled at you knowingly. “What? You can request cables to be laid, and I’m sure if you pay half the cost-”
“There’s not a huge focus on the internet out here when the sun rises in the morning for outdoor productivity. Most of us just have mobile phones to ring one another when we’re out on our property. And even then, the signal can be dodgy.”
“But there could be improvements,” you insisted, and Avery nodded.
“You’re persistent.”
“Well, it’s not the primitive age. I appreciate there’s a historical factor and a tight-knit community here, but this land is capital, and you could all win from some modern intervention.”
“I’m not your enemy,” Avery admitted, parking the car up on the side of a country lane. “I went to the city to escape how plain Blayne is.”
“You did?”
Avery nodded.
“Then how come you’re back?”
“It’s my home. It’s strange. Not a lot of people get why we live like this, but to us, it makes the most sense. Plus my old man got sick and needed me to help take care of the steer.”
“Okay, I’m going to sound really ignorant for a moment, but is a steer some kind of deer?”
“You came out here without knowing your basic farm animals, Y/N?” he asked with a laugh, and you rolled your eyes. “Come on I’ll show you why we need gumboots around here.”
Holding your nose, you attempted to listen to Avery’s speech about how the pigs of Blayne were some of the best meat pigs in the country. However, you were overstimulated by the smells and the sounds of the barn that you couldn’t quite keep up with the knowledge he was passing on to you.
“Ah, so this is where you were,” a voice mentioned, and you spun around, letting go of your nose and gasped for air. The newcomer smirked, his dimples deepening.
God, you wanted to hate him for being so attractive.
“You know me. I’ve got to help any damsel in distress out.”
“Where is she?” he teased, and you rolled your eyes. “Oh! Miss City, are you getting snippy with me?”
“Thank you for the warning about the owl.”
He grinned. “You’re welcome. So, seen enough pigs and want to go back to the city yet?”
“Not a chance.”
“That’s a pity, should we take her out into the cattle fields, Avery?”
“No need to be that eager to get rid of me,” you bit back and Avery, who had been watching the two of you, started to laugh heartily. You realised then how similar it sounded to May’s laugh. You pointed at him. “Wait, are you two-”
“Sadly, I’m related to him,” Avery admitted dramatically, and you glanced at the scowl on the other man’s face. “Come on Jaehyun, who wants to be your cousin anyway?”
“I never asked to be related to you either but here we are!”
“Jaehyun,” you breathed, and the man in question blinked at you curiously. “Oh, I didn’t get your name last night, you see.”
“I thought you had,” he answered back, grinning again. “Mr Cowboy, isn’t it?”
“Well, you do look like the typical cowboy in the movies when you go around in your boots and hat,” Avery defended, which you couldn’t help but snort a little at.
Jaehyun folded his arms across his chest. “Cattle fields, next. Right?”
You followed them out onto the field, watching where you stepped. Now you knew the reason for the boots. If there hadn’t been enough dung and muck in the pig barn, you certainly had seen more than enough of it out in this field. Climbing up the hill after the two men, you huffed at how easy it was for them.
“I guess there’s no need for a gym membership out here,” you muttered, sucking in a deep breath.
Jaehyun turned and looked at you then. “Come on, Miss City. The cows are over here.”
“I never wanted to see a damn cow, I came to survey the land for suitable resort spots,” you grumbled out of earshot, grateful when the slope evened out, and you reached the top of the field.
Stopping to catch your breath, you blinked at the view. In every direction you looked, the mountain range was so beautiful. All you could see was an expanse of land, which held a lot of possibilities. A golf course, a swimming and spa resort were merely two of the possibilities for Blayne’s development. Being close to nature whilst enjoying leisure pursuits could really put this place on the map.
You turned again, smiling at the wondrous thought of redevelopment until you saw what had come upon you. Backing up from the impossibly large beast, you raised your hands in defence.
“Nice cow.”
“She sure is a beaut, isn’t she?” a voice mentioned at your side, and you yelped in surprise, slipping on a cow patty.
Strong arms reached out to balance you before you hit the ground and you looked up into the face of your saviour, Jaehyun washing his gaze over you momentarily.
And then he started to laugh. “Wow, Miss City, you sure are jumpy! Feeling a little scared, are we?”
“You scared me first!”
“Was it me or the cow?” he questioned with a chuckle, and you yanked yourself free from Jaehyun’s grip, skirting around the curious animal and dashing over to Avery’s side.
He seemed equally amused. “You sure this is a place for you?”
“I’m adaptable,” you muttered, blinking rapidly.
Even you didn’t believe your words now.
“Wow, I’m exhausted,” you mentioned when you arrived back at your residence, falling down onto the couch with a groan.
Jaehyun had joined you for the rest of your exploration with Avery, much to your disdain. Every time you got close to discussing some sort of loose plan with the man, Jaehyun would distract you or shoot down your ideas entirely.
You glared up at the ceiling. “Stupid Cowboy. What would he know?”
The phone rang then, and you whined childishly, hauling yourself up from the couch and going over to answer it. “Oh good, you’re there!”
“Ah, yes. You have a nice home here, June.”
“You think so? It was once the home I raised my children in until we built the one we’re in now. Ah, that’s why I called you. I’ve made extra food and wanted to invite you around for dinner.”
“That’s too generous of you.”
“It’s the least I can do after knowing how long the boys had you out for. I told them to take it slow since you weren’t used to our ways yet. I bet your feet hurt.”
“They do, I’ll admit it,” you confessed and June giggled down the line with you.
“That’s it then! I’ll send Jaehyun around to fetch you!”
“Oh, it’s fine. I can drive myself there if you give me directions.”
“He’ll be there shortly, dearie. I pushed him out the door long before making this call.”
“Well, he should be here then,” you mentioned, glancing outside the house with some unease. “I’ll get ready!”
“See you soon, Y/N.”
After placing down the phone, you dashed upstairs to freshen up your appearance, pulling out a floral boho styled maxi dress that you had bought specifically for your country adventure. Picking up a straw hat and accessorising your middle with a woven belt, you laughed at how carefree you looked out of your usual business attire.
“He should be here by now,” you guessed, looking down the drive for Jaehyun’s truck. Collecting your bag, you stepped out of the house and locked it, slipping the keys into your purse and then jumped when you heard a loud whinny.
Turning to the field adjacent to the drive, you gaped at the sight before you. Jaehyun watched you for a moment before leaping down from the wagon. “It’s a good thing I had to run errands for Dad and didn’t bring a horse for you to ride instead, huh?”
“You didn’t bring the truck?”
“You asked if it was legal yesterday. I doubt you would have gotten in it.”
You eyed the large animal warily. “And you expect me to get up there?”
“Miss City, don’t tell me you’re scared of a mere horse. Back before any car, they were man’s best friend.”
“I thought that was a dog,” you murmured as Jaehyun leapt back up onto the cushioned seat of the wagon, his hand reaching down for yours.
“Ever seen a dog plough a field for crops?” Jaehyun asked with a chuckle, his grip firm around your wrist as he helped you up.
You sat down and looked around yourself hopelessly. “Do I need a seatbelt?”
“You really haven’t experienced much in life, have you, Miss-”
“Y/N,” you interjected, smiling nervously. “Please, call me Y/N.”
Jaehyun stared at you again and then smiled, picking up the reins. “You can hold onto me if you get scared, Y/N. I won’t tell anyone that our city slicker is frightened to ride on a horse wagon.”
“Why did I agree to go out tonight?” you wondered with a groan, shrieking and grabbing onto the front of the wagon when it started to move. Jaehyun laughed at you before eagerly asking the animal to move faster, your hands gripping on more tightly to the bar. “You’re working too hard to get rid of me, Jaehyun.”
“Really? Is it that noticeable?” he wondered and smiled when he watched you loosen your grip. “You’re adapting to this pretty well, though.”
It was your turn to look at him, a smile forming on your lips. “I am, huh.”
He glanced at you and nodded. “Who knows, maybe you’ll last more than a week.”
“Talk to me again when I make it to a month.”
“You’ll be riding a horse by that time,” he suggested, and you scoffed loudly.
“No, thank you. I’m not here to play farm. I’m here to work.”
“Farming is one of the hardest jobs out there. I thought you were here to see how us Blayners tick?”
“Well…”
“I guess you better think about what you’ll wear for a horse riding lesson tomorrow then.”
“I never agreed to it,” you objected and then sat back in your seat when Jaehyun leaned towards you.
“I like your dress by the way. It’s pretty.”
“Still full of yourself,” you mumbled, fanning your cheeks with how hot they grew with his compliment.
Jaehyun grinned. “Still enjoying it, aren’t we?”

LUKE AND PENNY PHOTOGRAPHED RUNNING ERRANDS - SEE HER BEAUTIFUL RING!
Weeks after their engagement was first announced, we finally get a closer look at Penny’s ring!
A very dressed down Luke and Penny were spotted in the city running errands today. Perhaps hoping to go incognito, the Duke of Holm’s eldest son wore a black cap which he paired with a plaid jacket and white shirt for the casual day out.
Similarly, high-powered human rights barrister Penny -who, nowadays, seems to wear nothing but stylish powersuits and dresses- was also unrecognisable in an oversized vintage shirt and faded jeans. She also went au naturel, flaunting her natural curls and make-up free face - freckles and all!
(Above: The ageless Penny looks remarkably like she did in her high school yearbook photo [r], showing off her naturally beautiful red curls, with not a drop of makeup on her face!)
Penny also managed to show off her latest accessory: her fabulous new (old) diamond ring! The piece is reportedly a family heirloom that originally belonged to the Duke and Duchess of Ennisford, Lady Beatrix’s parents. It was given to Lady Beatrix, who in turn gave it to her eldest son.
The ring features a large radiant cut central diamond, surrounded by a halo of smaller diamonds. It’s mounted on what looks to be a yellow gold, triple split shank ring.
The couple was later spotted picking up some groceries before heading back to their shared home.
As expected, the super private lovers have managed to keep everything about their upcoming wedding a closely-guarded secret. While sources claim that the couple are currently still at the “planning stage,” we do know that the two have picked a venue: Ennisford Chapel, located inside Ennsiford Park, the Ennisford Family (Lady Beatrix’s family) estate. The small chapel is also where The Duke of Holm and Lady Beatrix were wed, but Luke and Penny reportedly picked it for practicality’s sake, since the chapel is small and secluded, perfect for the intimate wedding they want.
Hopefully, these two fare better than the last high-profile couple who married in Ennisford Chapel (Luke’s parents!) But seeing as these two have gone through some really tough times and managed to emerge together and stronger than ever, we’re willing to wager that they’ll do just fine!
Can’t wait for the wedding! Here’s hoping we get an invite!

Part 2
“Yeosang, you might have to skip on meeting with them today.”
He looks up from his screen, peering at San several feet away from him. “Why?”
The good thing about San is that he’s unfazed when Yeosang uses that tone on him. He doesn’t cower when it comes to it, besides, there’s a special voice he uses when he’s genuinely angry. “Looks like there’s something special going on in the museum’s garden at night.” San explains. He already learned the hard way to not speak in riddles to him, but there were things that were better off spoken with mind games. “Check your email, I sent you the notice.” He says, shifting his attention to other matters on his plate.
There’s something in San’s voice that makes Yeosang want to groan. Usually, this means San’s got some sort of trick up his sleeve when some sort of misdemeanor has been happening-- though the last time San had to speak in riddles over something serious was a few thousand years back. To cut the agony short, Yeosang shifts his attention to his emails, already the email San has forwarded sits at the top.
It’s been a recurring incident for the past few weeks now. It’s only now that the museum have found the source of the smell. There’s been a peculiar flower that only blooms at night, emitting a scent similar to lavender, despite not looking like the mentioned plant. Though no one knows what flower is, the only response the staff has at the moment was to leave it be and wait for further instructions from the board. The photos attached to the notice made it easy for San to recognize it, all the man was waiting for was for Yeosang to see the photos too.
His demeanor changes almost immediately once it registers in his head. That’s his lover’s flower, the Neve Jewel. It’s blooming again. Truthfully, Yeosang didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He didn’t really think they would’ve kept their promise after all this time. He stares at the images. He knows that glow, the shape, the colors all too well. All that’s left is the scent, it’s been so long since he smelled those flowers, now all but a lingering feeling in his dreams. Deep blue eyes lay unmoving on his computer screen as he tries to process waves of emotions in him. San waits in his seat quietly, even if his fingers tap away into processing permits and other papers, he worries for how Yeosang would take this. “I’ll let them know that I’ll be late today.” Yeosang states, already writing a message for you.
Did San think he’d do anything different? Not quite. Even with the change of schedules, he knows how much Yeosang looks forward to seeing you everyday. He also knows how the man will do anything for those he loves. He can’t comprehend how he’s been able to have such self-control since their passing. He would always visit the tombstone of his lover up until the earth had decided to give birth to new life.
[ Yeosang to You ] My dear, I’m afraid I won't be able to see you until after your closing hours.
“San, can you get me the iced cafe latte along with a slice of their strawberry cheesecake?” He would have to wait until night falls for him to catch sight of the flowers. He has feelings for you, that much he is sure. Whether or not you are who he thinks he is, how you’ve been towards him.
“Now?” San asks, rising from his seat and about to grab his jacket.
“That would be nice, yes.” He says as he busies himself with an email, for the changes in the schedule for today. With that settled, San’s already off to your shop.
---------
Just as San enters your shop, he’s amazed at the booming activity. All the tables were filled with various groups of people. He wondered what was so special about today. As he approached the counter, you had just finished packing up an order for takeout. While you seem to manage just fine on your own: taking orders and making drinks, it’s definitely not an easy task.
“Today’s bustling I see.” San says as you immediately rush over after washing your hands.
“San!” You exclaim, a little relieved for some sense of familiarity after the hectic peak hours. He sees your shoulders drop a little and he flashes a wide smile, glad to be of some relief to you. “Yeah, I asked some of the regulars what’s going on today and it seems like they have finals week coming up so everyone’s just been so busy with their studies.” You shrug as you explain. You were done with university so that aspect of those years are long behind you now. “Anyways, the usual?”
“Not quite? Two iced cafe lattes, one slice of chocolate mousse and one slice of the strawberry cheesecake.” You nod and after the transaction’s made, you let him wait by the far end of the counter as you get to doing the coffee.
He leans against the counter as he waits for his purchase. As time passes by, he looks around the place, watching regular humans go about their daily stresses. From the corner of his eye, he spots a familiar insignia on someone’s laptop. The owner’s hunched over, visibly lacking sleep as they seem to try beating their deadlines. He gazes at them for some time until he turns away, not wanting to think too much about it especially in front of all these people.
“Here’s your order. I added some cookies as well, those are on the house.” You explain upon seeing his confused expression. He flashes a bashful smile in thanks.
“Yeosang might come by later tonight.” He states. The sight of your flustered expression makes him smirk. “Has he already asked you to be his?” His light laugh rings in your ears and he stops teasing you.
“Wooyoung might be here instead later. I have to run a few errands today.” You relay to him to which San acknowledges to send to Yeosang. Just feels like the old days.
He should also probably relay to Yeosang the symbol he saw earlier.
--------
“Yeosang, we need to--” San’s words are cut short when he’s greeted by the sponsors in their office. He sets aside the food bought from your shop and greets the visitors properly, throwing out any sense of concern in his body.
“Ah yes, Mr. Choi just came back from an errand. Mr. Choi, I would like you to meet the representatives of the Museum of Ancient Art. I’m sure you’ve talked with them through the emails?” Yeosang says, voice going a little deeper as it usually does in front of formal visitors. If they weren’t in front of him, he would’ve laughed at how Yeosang still tries his best to assert himself. An eons old god, still trying to assert himself, if Yeosang only knew how much respect and intimidation he exudes.
San approaches the two that he has constantly talked with through their online exchanges, relieved to have faces to their names. That’s right, he remembers now. A meeting with the Museum of Ancient Art to see which collections they can exchange with and how to promote each other in their respective areas. He just hopes this meeting ends as soon as possible because he finally recognizes the insignia from earlier.
--------
The meeting lasts for two hours. Thankfully, it was a meeting that wasn’t the type that could’ve just been over email. The four of them rise from their seats, delighted to have finished a fruitful meeting on time. After San walks them out of the building, he hurries back in, and already Yeosang’s eating his slice of cake with his coffee.
“We have no other meeting after that right?” San says as he brings his share to his table, leaning against his seat after such a tiring discussion-- not even a museum tour for students had worn him out that much.
“None, so we will be here until after closing to check on the discussed flower.” Yeosang after sipping his coffee. “There was something you wanted to tell me, yes?”
This gets San back into business mode, stern lines on his face as he faces Yeosang who busies himself with his cake. “Yeah, I saw someone in their shop, with the same insignia as the one that did a break in a few weeks back.”
Yeosang’s eyes are on his coffee and half eaten cake as he listens to San’s encounter. This doesn’t feel right. Once he catches a glimpse of the flower, he’ll rush over to your shop. “I’ll drop by their shop afterwards.” He simply says.
San takes the chance to look at his companion carefully. Behind the calm eyes already a storm rages, there’s tension in his neck and arms. If he’s right, then it’s only a matter of time.
“We’ll discuss this at my place after tonight’s activities.” He simply ends the conversation there, taking another bite of his cake.
“We’re still visiting their shop after?” It was a bit of a surprise for San to hear Yeosang wanting to go out of his way. Then again, why was San even surprised by anything anymore. This is Yeosang, he’s talking to. Also, with what San saw, archons know just how much turmoil there is inside Yeosang.
“If it’s possible, yes.” Yeosang closes his eyes as he drinks his latte. That’s enough for San to know to leave Yeosang to the privacy of his thoughts. Now all that’s left to do is wait until closing time.
As San looks away from him, he shifts his view to his computer, then to his phone. It’s a little odd that you haven’t replied to his messages. Despite his calm facade, he’s stressed. If his assumptions are right, you’re being targeted, for reasons that are yet unknown to him.
[ Yeosang to Wooyoung ] Are you working in the shop right now?
[ Wooyoung to Yeosang ] on my way to the shop! Need me to prepare an order for you guys?
He stops for a moment, wondering the proper wording to make sure Wooyoung doesn’t panic as much as he is right now.
[ Yeosang to Wooyoung ] Maybe later should San and I make it after today’s itinerary. I was simply wondering since they haven’t replied to me today.
He stares at his phone screen for another moment.
[ Yeosang to Wooyoung ] We’ll let you know.
He has thirty more minutes before the museum is deserted. For now, he’ll make the most out of his cake. He’s not quite sure anymore if peace will last long from now on.
--------
San takes the lead tonight. He asks one of the security guards to direct him and Yeosang to where in the garden was this strange flower located. Yeosang follows the male a few steps behind. His hands hidden in the pockets of his coat, he doesn’t want anyone to see just how tense he was.
“It was spotted in this area, sir. The smell leads you to the plant.” The security guard informs them as he gestures to the general area.
San nods, taking note of his advice, already he catches a waft of the scent. He doesn’t need to look at Yeosang to know how on edge he was. “We can manage on our own from here. Thanks.” San promises, as he dismisses the guard, to return to his duty. As the security guard leaves the two alone, he glances at Yeosang. “Do you want to be alone?” The archon shakes his head. He sniffs the air for a moment. The scent takes him back to the memories of eons past. Simpler times, he assumes.
From there, the two of them follow the scent. It’s a sharp contrast from all the turpentine and antique materials they’ve been exposed to since the museum was built. In today’s standards, the Neve Jewel would remind the regular people of an untouched field in the mountains. Though it is similar to lavender, it is still something that would even make those who love the said herb doubt that it is lavender that they’re smelling.
From there, they see a faint glow against the dim lighting in the garden. A soft glow of cool blues bounce onto the ground from where the flower resides. San sits by the bench across the flower as Yeosang approaches the plant.
It’s just like how he remembers it, just like the painting he showed you. It’s still the same after all these years. Yeosang hears nothing but the rush of blood in his ears. He’s too scared to touch the flower, fearing that it would be reduced to nothing-- that this would just be a sick dream his mind conjured.
“It’s real, Yeosang.” San says softly, as he watches his friend gaze at the flower in disbelief.
Yeosang snaps out of his thoughts and stands up. “I think I got all the proof I need.” He says softly. He stretches his legs, now reaching his full height. “Let’s go visit the shop.”
--------
Yeosang parks his car a few steps away from your shop. The warm glow from the lights lets him hope that you’re still inside. He and San enter the shop, only to be greeted by Wooyoung mopping up the floor. “Oh, thought the two of you wouldn’t come. Want the usual?” He asks, the surprised look on their faces doesn’t slip by him. “Looking for Popsicle?'' Wooyoung asks, leaning his hand against the top of the mop.
“Popsicle..” San repeats, thoroughly confused but Yeosang catches his reference fairly quickly.
“Didn’t think you’d give them that nickname.” He muses, already handing his card to Wooyoung who is already making his way to the counter.
“Man, they call me Sparky, it’s even.” Wooyoung counters. He didn’t really think he’d reveal himself like that but alas, it’s been done.
“Creative nicknames.” San comments, amusement in his tone.
“Happens to the best of us.” With that, Wooyoung busies himself whipping up their orders. “Popsicle left early for personal errands and to try out some personal recipes, to see if they can add it to the seasonal menu.” He explains above the whirring of the coffee machine. “Also, apparently it was a busy day so they weren’t able to reply to any of our messages.”
Yeosang, unaware of some of the changes, inevitably trips against a potted plant. From the sudden cold feeling against his leg, Wooyoung probably had watered this just a few minutes ago. His resigned sigh catches San’s attention and notices his trousers have been, quite literally, soiled. “Uhhh, Wooyoung?” San calls out, a little concerned for the cleanliness of his peer’s outfit and the shop’s.
“What-- Oh.” Wooyoung sees the mess and Yeosang says nothing but an apologetic bow. “I can clean it up once it dries up. Cleaning up wet soil just makes a bigger mess.” He points out. Unfortunately for him, this means staying in the shop longer when he can be in his bed, underneath his comfy blankets.
“I can be of assistance.” The archon speaks up. San looks at his friend in alarm, hoping that he won’t give away what he really is but he pays him no heed. Wooyoung eyes him in confusion.
With a flick of his wrist, his watch extends into a double ended scythes, his reflexes this time faster than earlier. He dips the edge of the blade against the spilled mud then against his pants, making sure to not nick at the fabric. The water from the damp dirt envelops the blade quickly, turning from an opaque brown color to clear and clean water.
He lifts one end of the scythe from his pants and tips into the pot, the water dripping in as carefully as possible. Once successful, he taps the end of the scythe’s pole against the ground and immediately returns to a watch.
Wooyoung watches the entire scene, speechless and confused by the entire spectacle-- though more of the fact Yeosang knows how to wield a scythe. “Does San know how to use a weapon too?” This wasn’t what he was supposed to ask but it will do for now.
“Just a sword staff.” San returns in equal nonchalance as Yeosang, in hopes that it wouldn’t make Wooyoung lose his mind. Instead though, Wooyoung lets out a low whistle, impressed at the two’s experience of handling rare weapons-- well he assumed they were rare. For he went with a great sword while you were something along the lines of a mage. To be honest, you didn’t really know how to describe your choice either.
“Okay but, Yeosang, your pants are dirty and you used the blade against the fabric. Aren’t they expensive?” Wooyoung’s not entirely sure at this point of how to remedy the situation, one foot already at the direction of the broom to clean up the now dried soil. He’s not entirely shocked that Yeosang knows how to deal with water, his hydro vision hangs by his waist. He was more shocked with the scythe and the possibly damaged clothes. How he did that so willingly, maybe it’s the perk of being rich.
Yeosang waves his hand dismissively about his concern. “Nothing to worry about. I know someone who can clean this without sacrificing the quality. To ease your wary heart, I barely touched the blade against the pant leg. It’s still perfectly fine.”
Of course, he’d know someone. The rich always do.
“What brand are you even wearing?”
“Cucinelli.”
With that mentioned, Wooyoung stands up and leaves the two for a moment. The abrupt exit leaves the two surprised and concerned. He returns with a broom in hand, cleaning up the soil and putting it back into the pot. The brand name alone tells him everything he needs to know about how much the pants were. “Is it really that expensive?” Yeosang asks, a little surprised by Wooyoung’s sudden lack of response.
He doesn’t answer for a moment. “It’s enough to cover rent for a few months yeah.”
This makes the archon ponder for a moment. Truly there were things that he forgets from time to time about the differences in the lives of humans.
---------
For the next hour the two of them fill in Wooyoung on what has happened in their day, when all of a sudden Yeosang perks up in alarm.
Yeosang looks around, can never be too careful after all. “Did you see anyone with a symbol that depicts three intertwined knots?” Wooyoung just gives him a perplexed look. WIth the amount of people Wooyoung sees on the daily, it was rare that any of them would stand out to him. It was easier to spot people who stand out in a studio than in a coffee shop.
“Huh? Maybe our Popsicle did but I don’t remember seeing anything like that, why?”
This time, he wasn’t sure if he should be concerned or not. The things the two have talked about, especially in the art scene, doesn't faze him anymore. For all he knows, the insignia they’re asking about is an anonymous artist they want to work with.
San shakes his head. “Just a hunch about something. One of these days, we can tell you but for now, we need to go home. It’s late.” San reminds them as he glances at the time.
By now, Wooyoung was already finished cleaning everything up. The paper and plastic packaging for their orders were in their hands and it’s on them to throw it. His reasoning? He already worked hard to keep this place clean and he’s stayed beyond work hours to wait for them just like you’d always do.
Now that the lights were closed and the doors were locked with ample protection by Wooyoung, San looks around and sees an odd being a few feet away. “Yeosang.” He murmurs softly, eyes flitting towards the direction he needs to face. The amulet in his pocket feels a little heavier.
Across the street stood the members from the Abyss Order, their eyes glinting in the dark with a plan that would put Wooyoung in danger should they not act quickly. “Wooyoung, I need you to get in the car now. I’ll drive you home.” Yeosang orders, tryinggnn his best not to sound on edge to not scare the guy. Usually, he and San can take care of these members without anyone around them becoming collateral damage. He’s not sure either if Wooyoung has his sword with him.
“What? Nah, it’s okay. I can just walk or get a taxi.” Wooyoung reassures, standing up twirling the keys in his fingers.
“Wooyoung, it’s an ord--” Before Yeosang could complete his sentence, San already has his sword staff up, creating a sturdy shield to block out the bullets that were fired at them. The boom and the lack of sound from impact makes Wooyoung look over immediately. San’s weapon stands at a roughly twelve feet tall pole alone, add the sword and it could have been eighteen feet in length. The human’s not quite sure as to how that happened but questions might be better put for later.
“Ah shit.” Your friend mutters, unclasping his bracelet and already it shifts into a greatsword, taking up a length of six feet easily. “I don’t know what they are but they are not damaging this shop.” What’s scarier: these unknown threats or you screaming?
He manages to block a few of the projectiles coming their way, much to the shock of the two immortals. “Got any plan? Preferably something that makes sure this shop is unscathed?” Wooyoung growls, returning the projectiles, with much more strength towards the perpetrators. This time, the heated projectiles combined with his element, exploding upon impact. His vision glows a sharp purple as he continues to use his element.
Yeosang looks around, trying to figure out a plan. “Watch my back” He simply says. Immediately, San shifts to take his usual position behind the archon. Wooyoung on the other hand, still throws damage against the strange figures. “Wooyoung, keep exposing them to electricity.”
The human grunts in acknowledgement, slightly frustrated that he can’t move around freely as he has to make sure the shop takes no damage. San jumps into action, using the bladed end of his staff to take out what seems to be a burly figure wielding an electro hammer who was lunging straight towards Yeosang. It doesn’t take much to know that the figure’s near gone with how hard it staggers back from the impact.
Yeosang spins his scythe, and the blades start to get enveloped by water. As he swings his scythe, blades of water hone in on the figures, knocking them back upon impact and damaging their own weapons. This gives enough time for San to push forward and drive his staff down onto them: pinning them against a sudden burst of wind currents. The pressure making it hard for them to wriggle out of, yet they twitch insistently from the exposure to electricity and water. “Leave if you want to see another day.” Yeosang warns in a strange voice. Wooyoung’s not sure if his goosebumps are from the static on his sword or from the change in Yeosang’s attitude.
The men-- from what Wooyoung can only presume, submit to his order, speaking of promises to not return to the area and other words that he can only assume were pleas of mercy.
“Whoever sent you here, tell them of my regards.” Yeosang growls. He doesn’t need to lean forward to look them in the eye. From where he stands, waves of his power come off him slowly. Something in Wooyoung runs cold when he sees his eyes and the tips of his hair glow an intense blue-- a blue that reminds him of the deepest trenches in the ocean, as he restrains their movements even further with water.
When the promises are made, San makes sure to look each perpetrator in the eye, memorizing their faces and features for the future. They can never tell when the tide changes. The male then loosens his restraints on the men, despite the blood and bruises they have he lets them go. Though personally, he would’ve sliced them into ribbons for coming into this part of the neighborhood.
Once the three have scrambled away from them, Yeosang heaves a sigh. It’s been a little too long since he had tapped into his archaic abilities. He carefully switches his scythe back into a watch, clasping it around his wrist. Once it’s snug around his wrist, he checks the time. Past midnight. What a tiring day. San heaves a tired groan, tapping the end of his staff against the ground and it becomes a weaved ring on his pointer again. The archon walks to his car, unfortunately with a few dents and scratches. It will be a matter to be taken cared of for another day, for now: safety.
“Get in the car.” He has already put up a protective layer of water against your shop, making sure that any damage against your shop would be minimized. The three figures have already retreated but to leave Wooyoung alone would be a death wish. Wooyoung scratches his thumb against the base of his sword and it turns immediately into his bracelet. He makes sure everything else is clear then hops into the car, swinging the door shut as Yeosang steps on the gas.
“Who were they?” Wooyoung exclaims as he falls back into his seat with an exhausted whine. His clothes were definitely a mess and the adrenaline’s starting to wear off “Shit, Popsicle.” He worries for your safety, especially after tonight’s run-in. He’s not sure if you’ll be able to fend for yourself on your own.
“San will take care of them. It’s too dangerous for us to go get them right now.” He promises yet the edge in his voice doesn’t leave. He knows who they were but why they were there is what’s making him grip the steering wheel harder than he should. “Yeosang.” San’s voice immediately reminds him to breathe. “To answer your question, the ones we fought earlier are from the Abyss Order. They haven’t been making their presence known in years.”
“So why now?”
“We don’t know.” San replies in place for Yeosang. “That’s why we asked if you saw a three intertwined knot insignia earlier because I saw something when I went in during their shift.” The rest of the drive is quiet. The car slows down to an acceptable speed to avoid any road blocks along the way.
“You’re staying the night in my place for now.” Yeosang explains much to Wooyoung’s shock. “It’s not safe for you to go back yet. Not until tomorrow morning at least. San will pick them up. He knows his ways around the roads here.” He continues, as he slowly parks his car in the complex’s parking lot.
Wooyoung explains to San where the two of you live and San already has a mental image of it. “Any landmark?”
“A convenience store right next to a grandmother’s ramen shop.”
“Okay, I’ll see you guys later.” San then jumps out of the car and onto the scaffoldings of the buildings.
Wait, this is where Yeosang stays? Wooyoung looks around the area: the cars look timeless, expensive as well. On the ground seems to be the numbers of the respective owner’s place. He shuts off the engine and unlocks the doors. “Tell them to bring what they need for the next few hours. I have a lot to explain.”
---------
That’s how Wooyoung ended up staying in Yeosang’s place for the night. Yeosang cooks up a simple pasta for them, knowing that even San will sleep over for the night. Wooyoung offered to help but Yeosang had been stubborn enough to make him sit down and drink his tea after updating you with what had happened.
The needed conversation had to happen with you around so to kill time, both men decided to know the other a little more beyond the coffee shop and art museum.
“... I basically got my vision after realizing what I wanted to do with my life.” Wooyoung explains. It happened after having a conversation with you in high school. “We were fighting about whether or not I should try for the competition despite my injuries..” Go figure. He went all in for it, of course with your help to keep him grounded but it would seldom work as he tunnel visioned into his goal. The difference between your two favoured medium is in the longevity of the works. He accepted that dancing is one of the shortest living works. Three minutes on stage is different from three minutes through a screen. Yet, there he was wanting to make his name known for years to come despite the short lifespan of dance. “It was when I told little Ice Cube about it that my vision formed in my pocket.”
“I did get my name out there, once we started studying in university.” He continues. “I rose up the dance crew quickly. Things are always different in real life as compared to recorded performances, yet there’s always something beyond as they would say.” He shrugs, trying his best to not sound like he’s bragging. “Now here I am, teaching some idols choreography while teaching passionate dancers in a studio with a part time in your shop.”
This makes Yeosang mull for a bit. He’s met the Electro Archon, with Wooyoung’s story it did fall in line with the Archon’s belief and virtue: to go beyond what Time can limit. It took a few thousand years to remind the mentioned Archon of their humanity though. Fortunately, they have thus the influx of electro users in the succeeding years. He wonders then, when did you get yours? The archon does not want to pry yet curiosity pesters his mind. “I’m assuming that they have gotten their vision prior to yours then?”
The mortal looks at him with wide eyes. “They never told you how they got the cryo vision huh?” Wooyoung notes as he takes his time to study Yeosang’s place.. Yeosang busies himself by making himself a cup of tea, while Wooyoung an americano. He knows his skills in creating coffee would be sub-par compared to yours but for now, it will do for him.
“I’m afraid not, though I am aware of the similarities of the lives led by cryo users.” Yeosang returns as he hands the mug to the other male. Each Archon hands a human or an adepti with a vision, usually done when the subject of interest has reached a point in their life that exhibits values worthy of their attention. For the Pyro archon, it would be due to the passion one carries despite all odds. For Yeosang, the hydro vision is gifted when the human exhibits the desire to better themselves. The Cryo archon was an oddball even after the changes, for those who receive the cryo vision are those who have gone through a certain loss that changes them in the long run. As if to help them survive what the world has done to them.
What did you lose?
Wooyoung eyes the coffee in his hands with worry. Your story is not his story to share, but he can share parts of it from his eyes. “They started living with my family at a young age.” He starts. “It took them awhile to warm up to the family but no one forced the lil Popsicle to be happy.” The dazed wary look you would give his parents pained him even until now. “Despite that, they’ve been deadly protective of our parents and brothers. You were always willing to fight any one that tried to bully me or any of our other classmates.” He says with a soft laugh. Yeosang listens intently, the mere image of you, a small child, willing to protect those who were suffering, it would’ve been a sight to see. Wooyoung takes a careful sip, making sure to not burn his tongue. “Their family was known for their ventures in history, usually through art and any written records.” Wooyoung adds, looking up at the male across from him. There’s something in him that tells him that Yeosang isn’t any regular vision holder. “Can I ask something?”
The question surprises the archon slightly but he gestures for Wooyoung to continue. He supposes that not everything can be told from another pair of eyes, best to be told by someone who has seen it all.
“You’re not a regular human are you?” Wooyoung’s question makes him chuckle.
“What made you ask?” Yeosang starts, eyeing the human with curiosity.
“For starters, no one’s hair glows at the tips.” Wooyoung points out, tipping his head towards the fringe that frames his face. “Nor should the eyes” he adds, referring to the run in earlier. He doesn’t add the words Yeosang spoke of, thinking it could be twisted easily into his favor. “Also, this amount of money cannot be amassed in such a short year unless you’re from a rich family.” In the back of his mind, he was already making a plan of how to escape and warn you should this become a worst case scenario. He was about to list more before Yeosang cracks up.
“Well, yes. You are correct. I am not.. A human entirely.” Though he does plan to live like one after this.
“But you’re not.. An adepti either then? You don’t look like Ganyu.” Wooyoung points out. At least that removes the possibility of him being associated with the bad guys. What memories that name brings him. It’s been a long time since he’s heard from Ganyu. The last he’s seen her, she could pass off as a woman in her early fourties if it weren’t for the ruby horns that curled upwards from her head. Maybe he should pay her a visit in the near future.
“An adepti can take on a form like Ganyu yes, but there are also adepti that can take on the forms of animals or look like regular humans. My dear friend San, is an adepti as well.” Yeosang counters calmly as he sips his tea. “Now, I trust their judgement, you are a trustworthy human, especially to have the electro vision. Dear Wooyoung,” he starts. The ways of proving that he was the archon without annihilating an entire area is usually limited for a human’s mind can be picky. He lets his eyes turn into wide saucers, too wide to be considered human, and for his skin acquires scales like that of a dragon. Wooyoung’s reaction tells him enough and he reverts himself back to that of a human.
“You’re the hydro archon.” Wooyoung sputters out.
“That is correct.” Yeosang nods calmly.
“Can I swear?”
“Carry on.”
“Holy shit.”
--------
The way San entered your apartment as well was enough to scare you for the next three days or so. He doesn’t tell you much, even in the safety of your own home. Only a “Let’s go. We’ll explain somewhere safer.” By then, you already had your things ready and kept everything in place. Your vision is securely strapped around your waist while your Regalia is on your wrist.
You arrive in one piece thanks to San. He had you running through small roads and hidden spots around the city, to avoid prying eyes and wandering ears from seeing the two of you.
At first glance, you assume that this was another regular apartment complex that maybe you staying at home was the better option. But when you enter the lobby, the smell alone tells you this more than a regular building. There’s a receptionist with three guards around the place, the pristine interiors softened by the warm lighting. You feel out of place in your regular sweats and hoodie, San on the other hand might be in a worse position. A wrinkled jacket, dress shirt that’s been dirty with his tie loosened, his shoes lost their luster and his hair was in slight disarray. A rare sight indeed.
“Let’s go. They won’t mind you anyways as long as you’re with me.” San reassures you, sensing your discomfort when the staff pass a glance at you. He walks with you to the elevator and once the two of you are in the small box, he heaves a sigh of relief and exhaustion, leaning against the wall for some sense of support.
“What exactly happened, San?” You ask. The concern in your voice makes him look over at you and for a moment, he thought he saw the previous archon in you. No wonder Yeosang’s been hung up about you. Yet, once he comes to his senses, it’s just the same you. A regular human who carries the cryo vision, yet he could also see why Yeosang would like you regardless of your potential history.
The rising elevator makes your ears pop, thankfully you manage to hear him say, “We’ll talk about it in Yeosang’s place. Wooyoung’s there as well.” He repeats. There’s no hint of unperceived danger in his voice yet it puts you on the edge.
The lift rings, notifying them of their arrival. He gestures for you to walk ahead of him, mostly out of your own safety to make sure nothing comes running at you from behind. “2411” The man behind you says, and so you look for the number. It’s deep into the hallway when you finally see his place. San takes the chance to knock on the door thrice, and without missing a beat, it’s Wooyoung that greets the two of you-- slightly worse for wear but nothing you can’t fix.
He sighs in relief, seeing you in one piece along with San and he lets the two of you in. “I brought your stuff.” You say, handing his duffle bag to him and he manages to let out a sound of relief.
“Yeosang! I’ll go ahead and shower!” He calls out, leaving you and San alone with him. The way Wooyoung has become so casual and comfortable with him doesn’t surprise you anymore.
San takes up the stool Wooyoung left, you sitting next to him as you try to make sense of his apartment. The wide view of the skyline from wall to wall in the living room was enough to make your head swim with a fear of heights. The colors were on the whites and browns with the occasional accent of black. His kitchen didn’t really help quell your curiosity of just how rich he was. It’s only now that Wooyoung’s words were settling into your head. He’s rich and if your guess is right, he’s probably part of the 0.5% of society. There is no way he can pay for the upkeep of this apartment easily unless he was part of that aspect of society.
Your eyes return to him as he serves the two of you some of the pasta he had made earlier. “Eat while it’s still hot.” He says for now. San doesn’t mind your questioning gaze on his friend but Yeosang tries not to cave in. Not yet. “I will explain everything once everyone’s cleaned up. It will be a long night for you and Wooyoung especially.” He leaves no room for arguments, and it takes a moment for the archon to realize that he’s using his business voice again. He rubs the back of his neck, albeit uncharacteristic of him as he tried to assert his calm nature just moments ago. “I will take a shower for now, don’t rush your meal for tonight.” Thus leaving the two of you on your own.
---------
The water runs hot against his skin but the temperature doesn't faze him, steam has already coated the mirrors and the glass tiles. He just stares blankly at the murky rivulets that run down his body and to the drain. Questions still ring in his head as to what could’ve happened, why did it happen, and what had happened. You’d think an aged archon such as he could see the answers easily, yet there’s one thing he can never get right. Humans and their “sense” of logic, the claimed hardest to sway yet here he is wondering why things went the way they did with the adrenaline from the battle wearing off as the hot water relaxes his muscles.
What was in the store that the Abyss Order thought was of importance? Was it you?
As much as he loves being with water, he hates how it would remind him of many memories he tries to push away they still come back. Ironic really how water always is in motion, yet he can’t seem to just move on from what has happened years back. He snaps out of his thoughts and finishes washing up for the night, his dirty clothes tossed into the hamper as he changes into his sleep wear for the night.
One day, the memories won’t hurt anymore. For now, he lets them hurt until the pain ebbs away. He lets himself mourn the pain for a few moments before coming back to reality. He can’t let himself mourn more than needed, there are things he needs to attend to first.
When he comes back to the kitchen, it’s Wooyoung who is now keeping you company and from the looks of things, he was filling you in on what had happened to the best of his ability.
“Really,” you sigh, drying your plate as you eye him with concern. “Thank goodness, you had your bracelet on you today. Let me check you for injuries.” You chastise him, not taking a no for an answer as you give his body a quick scan.
“Ice cube, I think you should be checking on San and Yeosang-- Ow!” He yelps, when he feels your hand press on his shoulder.
“Did you handle your sword the wrong way again?” You ask, spreading a thin layer of ice on his skin, akin to a muscle relaxant strip.
The way you know him so well makes him pout. “Maybe..” He mutters, he waits for an earful that never comes. Instead, your attention shifted to Yeosang who has been watching the two of you bicker for what could’ve been this entire time.
“Oh hey, Yeosang. I was telling them what had happened earlier, well at least the ones I understand.” He changed his seat so that Yeosang could sit next to you.
Little shit.
“You didn’t have to clean up.” He says, thanking Wooyoung for the seat. He doesn’t stop you though, you were practically finished with the job anyways.
“It’s fine. It’s the least I can do. San went to clean himself up a few minutes ago.” You take your seat after cleaning up the dishes, you don’t miss the chance to shoot Wooyoung a glare at his motive though.
“Then he’ll most likely return in ten minutes. Wooyoung, what have you told them thus far? Just so San and I can fill them in on any questions they might have.”
“Mostly the fight, what the guys looked like, and your weapons.” He says, a little too enthusiastically thus causing the two of you to look at him with raised eyebrows. “What? It’s not everyday you see a double ended scythe and a sword staff three times taller than San.”
“I heard that.” A pointed voice comes out from behind the. It was San, fresh out of the shower with an empty look of annoyance on his face.
“Well, now that we’re here. I suppose we can get started.”
The four of you take comfort in the living room as this could be a very long discussion. Well, to be specific, it’s only San that manages to find comfort on the couch, lounging on one side like a lazy cat while you and Wooyoung are still in shock over the quality of the place alone. The two of you sit carefully on the couch, Yeosang decides to sit across the two of you. The archon already seems burdened, wondering how else to go about this.
“For starters,” San suggests. “I think it would be a good idea to tell you that I saw someone at your shop with the insignia on their laptop. It’s safe to guess that they’re part of the Abyss Order.”
You look at him in confusion. The name rings faint bells but not quite what you were looking for. “The what?” You ask, shifting your glance to Yeosang. The immortals wonder if they saw a spark of fear flash before your eyes as you try to make sense of the situation.
“The Abyss Order, my dear, they’re a long running organization. They started from wanting to topple Celestia, to wanting to take down the Archons.” It was the simplest way Yeosang could put it. The complete run down of history could take longer than a night and he doubts you and Wooyoung could take so much information within a short period of time. “Their insignia has changed over time. They work in the shadows, feeding opposing ideas to humans in subtle ways that reach the communal consciousness.” There have been certain forms of media that have come out that romanticize questionable lifestyles and choices, that only a handful can tell the Abyss had a hand in them.
“So why were they at my shop? I’m just a regular human trying to make ends meet and make my dreams come true” You say.
“Regular my butt. Ice Cube, we have visions, I don’t really think we’re regular.” Wooyoung snorts. He has a point, vision carriers weren’t that common. “But that is a good question.” He says after a jab to his side thanks to you.
Yeosang cups his chin in thought. “My guess is because of San and I.” He returns calmly. “Well, to be exact, me.”
Wooyoung’s head starts to work into overdrive. “Wait, right.” He cuts his own words off, groaning into his hands. San starts to find his own nails interesting as the conversation shifts to this. Unfortunately you were still unable to make sense out of everything. How could you, your night went from San telling you to pack up, to running through unknown streets, to seeing the three of them in a slightly worse for wear situation to a multimillion apartment.
“Can someone please explain?” You plead, your patience running thin. You don’t like being kept in the dark. You don’t like the familiar feeling of frustration and powerless feeling it brings.
“My dear, I don’t know how else to say this but I, Kang Yeosang, am the Hydro Archon.” As he reveals this, his eyes glow into the colors of the ocean, with his pupils widening more than normal, streaks of ice blue against a deeper blue green hue. If you look any closer, you might be able to see hints of white, just like sea foam in his eyes. His skin forms patches of scales on his forearms, but the metamorphosis stops there. He’d rather not turn into full form and cause property damage. “I’ve been the one responsible for giving Hydro visions for as long as I can remember.” He manages to rasp out, his voice now rather hoarse due to the partial transformation.
Your eyes grow wide, somehow this makes sense and at the same time it doesn’t. This explains his extensive knowledge of history yet at the same time, it’s a struggle to wrap your mind around the mere fact you’ve been catching feelings for an immortal being. Of all beings to fall for, it had to be the Archon. It couldn’t have been someone like Wooyoung but then again, do you really want that?
“He wields a double scythe by the way.” Wooyoung comments under his breath. That part, you can take in stride, your best friend handles a great sword while you used something akin to a floating orb.
“But wait, you said initially, this Abyss Order’s targets were you and San. Is San an Archon too?” You ask. If he was the Anemo Archon, you might have to cut this discussion short-- it’s been a hectic and eventful day.
“I was offered, but I turned it down.” San says with a shrug. “I prefer just being something like a guardian of a region rather than overseeing the entire world.” He doesn’t continue the story and instead stretches his body out like a cat lazing under the sun.
Yeosang slowly transforms back into that of a regular human. “That’s as far as my guess goes, that I’m the primary target. Anything else is unfortunately beyond my knowledge.” He hasn’t kept in contact with the other archons either so it’s anyone’s guess at this point.
“So what now?” You ask. “I really can’t just stay at my shop 24/7. Wooyoung can’t either, besides the shop, he works at a dance studio too, remember?”
Yeosang stays silent for a while, thinking through possible remedies for the time being. “Would an additional hand suffice?”
“I’m not hiring you or San into my shop. I don’t think the salary I can give either of you could compare to the salary in an art museum.”
“Oh no, not me. The art museum needs San and I to continue running.” He shakes his head. It was a lovely idea though, a nice change from the constant stress of files and intensive care. “I know someone who might be able to help, he’s just like San.” San looks over at Yeosang with a raised brow, raising his head from his arm to get a better view of his friend.
“I mean, if he’s a friend of yours and is aware that I can’t give a salary as high as you can then I don’t think I can turn down the offer.”
“Then it’s settled then. I’ll contact Hongjoong tonight to give him the details. If things go as planned, he will be able to meet you tomorrow afternoon.”
“Oh right, Yeosang put up some sort of protective barrier for the night that spans until early afternoon I think? So more time for us to rest and catch up on sleep.” Wooyoung explains upon seeing your panicked face at the ‘tomorrow afternoon’ part. “So I guess, that’s it for tonight?” Wooyoung asks in a hopeful tone, trying to stifle a yawn with his hands.
The immortals remember the limitations of humans and thus decide to end the discussion here. “Yes, we can continue this some other time. For the sake of your safety, feel free to come to the art museum. I’ll let the staff know of you to let you through easily. For now, it is better for the two of you to get some rest.”
San sends him a look, realizing that he had omitted a certain topic out of the discussion. At the mention of rest, you start to feel the exhaustion seep into your bones. Your eyes feel heavy now as Wooyoung’s yawn reminds you of how eventful the day was for both of you. “I’ll lead them to their room.” San offers, much to Yeosang’s relief as he couldn’t handle what San might want to discuss once the two were off to rest.
Yeosang switches the lights off, bathing the room in darkness and night lights once more. The hallway was dimly lit, making sure that none of his visitors bumped themselves to their slumber. He asks himself why he veered away from the topic of you being a potential interest by the Abyss Order. He wasn’t happy with the answer but it’s the only one he’s got.
He doesn’t want history to repeat itself, yet he knows that those who don’t know it are doomed to repeat it. Even with these worries, he can’t get himself to look at the amulet that rests by his bed side.
--------
Something inside you starts turning. “San, do you remember what the symbol looks like?” You ask carefully, voice barely above a whisper. For Wooyoung’s sake, you didn’t want him to hear this conversation.
His eyes glance at you after watching Wooyoung flop over the bed. It’s only now that you notice the green streaks in his eyes. “Of course, something wrong?”
“Can you draw it and send it to me over chat?” You don’t answer his question. “Also, do you have any injuries?” Until you have some sort of confirmation, you won’t divulge any information to him.
San raises his knee as an answer. “Scraped myself when I had to pin the Abyss members down but nothing too worrisome.”
“Can I at least fix it? I wasn’t able to ask Yeosang either of his injuries.” San remembers that you were more adept at healing, you can still pack a punch but you preferred to stay at the back. For both of your peace, he enters the room and lets you check on his injuries.
At least the wound has been cleaned but it’s still very fresh. “This isn’t just a scrape, San.” There’s something in your tone that makes San shrink back like a child. Wooyoung peeks over, your concern catching his attention.
“That looks pretty bad.” Wooyoung comments much to San’s embarrassment. Never did the guardian expect a human to chide him like a parent-- not even Yeosang did that.
“It’s not that--” San’s words are cut off by the jolt in temperature. The sharp cold stings against his wound-- maybe he didn’t disinfect it enough. He hears you murmur words of what he can only assume were spells. The intense drop in temperature made his leg stiffen from the sensation, but it was gone as quick as it happened. The guardian looks at his legs and already it was new skin, as if the wounds never even happened and he had just decided to do an exfoliation. “Makes me wonder how you’d be in a fight.” He muses his thanks, running his fingers gently against his healed knee.
“Please don’t. I might just be the type to cry while fighting.” You plead, much to Wooyoung’s amusement.
The immortal chuckles at the image, for the most part it is endearing but he tries not to wear down the light conversation with the more realistic thoughts in his head. San stands up and heads towards the door. “Good night you two, the next few days might be a little hectic for the four of us.”
