Hi!! Recently I was asked to compile different pieces of non literary media for students to analyze (Iām not a teacher Iām a ex student working part time at my old school while I wait for uni), and one category is song lyrics. I was thinking of choosing some Mitski songs bcs from what Iāve listened to, thereās quite a bit to unpack.
However, Iām just a casual fan and I donāt know her as a artist very well. Iāve read some of her interviews and from what I can garner she seems to pride herself as not as someone who pours all of herself into a song, but rather someone who crafts it all carefully.
At the end of the day though you seem to know more than me. I donāt want to misinterpret her. Could I ask if there are any songs you would recommend to choose? Especially if there are themes like women in patriarchy or other global issues (though this isnāt a requirement!). Thanks, and please donāt feel obligated to answer this for whatever reason šš» <3
ohhhhhohohohhhhhhh you've come to the right person
-
one of her more popular songs is called "liquid smooth", where it talks about how women of color are sexualized in the eyes of society and feel as though that once they are past their "prime", then society deems them as unlovable and useless.
those first few lines discuss how women of color are sexualized whether they want to be or not, and how they are considered "full of life" when they're at their "prime". mitski explains that she's at her "peak" and that she's "ripe", but she's "about to fall", and that shows how after she hits her "peak", society deems her as unlovable or unappealing just because they're unable to sexualize her in a way that they used to. and this is very much apply to mitski's life, as a japanese woman. we all know how japan became "trendy" in recent years and how the sexualization and infantilization of japanese women has been a very prominent thing amongst weaboos and the like. so this song primarily dicusses how society is very harsh towards women of color and disregard them after it is deemed that they are unattractive past their "peak".
-
another song of hers is "stay soft", and while it is a bit harder for me to understand, my personal interpretation of the song is how society forces women, particularly women of color, to "stay soft" and stay appealing for others and not complain when they are degraded and abused by that same society.
when it says "only natural to harden up" i believe it refers to how society tells women to toughen up and deal with how they're being treated, but while still being told to "stay soft" to stay appealing. i think this song is more about the hypocrisy that society places on women of color, because they are told to "stay soft" and "harden up" at the same time. many woc understand the whole "scary and mean woman of color" stereotype and are constantly trying to fight against that form of racism. i think this song discusses the hypocrisy of society for demonizing women of color when they stand up for themselves, and it discusses how woc are abused but still told to be appealing and toughen up, or else they will be outcast and deemed, again, unlovable.
-
my current favorite song is "happy", and this song does take a bit more time to analyze, since a lot of the message goes well with the music video. that being said, the music video IS. well. disturbing. so i'm going to summarize it and describe it, and link it if you want to follow along. so general trigger warning for gore, blood, abuse, etc.
youtube
so we start off with a woman of color. she is an asian woman, and she's the one explaining this. she's talking about a man, who she calls "happy". she discusses how he visits her and how she feels as though she is loved by him. she explains that he "lays her down" and makes her feel happy.
"happy" in the music video is a white man. happy gives her a pearled bracelet. she is very much in love with him. in the video she is serving him tea, and she trips and falls and apologizes. he rolls his eyes, scoffs, and disregards her. in the next few shots, you can see that he is with another woman. a white woman. multiple. with blonde hair and blue eyes. you can also see that the woman of color is alone in bed at night, with happy's bedside empty.
in the video, it is another morning, and she bids him farewell. she is cleaning the house and looks in his bag, where she finds a chunk of blonde hair. she realizes he is cheating with a white woman. she later confronts him while crying, and he comforts her.
i think this the the point to discuss how women of color are often disregarded or put to the side. it's very obvious that happy is only using her for sexual reasons, since he doesn't care about her past that, as shown with the tea scene and with the bed scene. woc are often abused by white men while they favor a white woman instead.
in the video, probably a day later, she finds a red purse with a note from happy that says "i love you". she's very excited and opens it up. she not only finds a blonde hair chunk, but on the inside it says "for my blue-eyed cookie". she is not blue eyed. it's obvious that he took the bag that he gifted to the white women he was cheating with and gave it to her. she looks at herself in the mirror. her eyes are dark. they are not blue. she realizes this.
later that night she goes down into the basement, and finds happy with a bloody corpse of a white woman. she's horrified, as the body is mutilated, and the scene is incredibly gorey. she sees happy removing pearls off of the body, and she looks down at her own hand and notices the pearl bracelet. she realizes that she was his next victim, and screams and runs but trips. he attacks her, she falls again, next to the body. he's choking her, and she grabs the axe (?) on the body and kills him. the next scene we see is her in the car driving away, crying.
so. there is a lot to unpack here. i don't think it's so much about the gorey parts but more so about how women are often victims to men, and how women of color are typically pushed aside and into the shadow of white women, who are favored more by white men in this western society. this song talks about how women of color are abused in this society by being manipulated into thinking they are loved, when they are really just being used for white men's own personal gain, and how ALL women, even the white ones, are victims to this horrible system.
man there is so much to go into here, but i think you get the gist. i'm sure you can do a deeper analysis if you'd like, i'm just pointing out the main theme of the song
-
another one of mitski's songs is "your best american girl", where it talks about how often times, people of color become white washed or forget their own culture in order to "fit in" with the american, or western, "culture".
this "don't wait for me, i can't come" part is what i assume is her realizing she is different and does not fit in with western society.
"your mother wouldn't approve of how my mother raised me" is referring to the difference between the cultures of her and her lover, and how they were raised differently. i want you to notice how she says "i think i do", because i'll be coming back to that in a moment. when she says "i guess i couldn't help trying to be your best american girl" it refers to how she tried fitting into american society and disregarding her own culture and heritage in order to feel as though she belonged in that society. she uses past tense though, so clearly she is past all that, or at least starting to moving on from it.
this refers to how she still loves this "american boy" and still wants him, though i think it's less about a lover in this moment and rather referring to how she wants to be part of the american society to not feel like an outcast. i'm unsure about what she is "regretting", but it's either she is regretting ever discarding her heritage for the american society, or regretting leaving american society to return back to her heritage (and therefore being treated like an outcast in that very same society).
notice how she says "i finally do" instead of "i think i do" ? this is where she finally accepts her identity and feels comfortable enough to be proud of her heritage for a moment, long enough to show how she decided to stop pretending to fit in with american society. it does return to "i think i do" in the last line, where i believe it means that she's still unsteady about her identity. but i still think she took that big step in returning and appreciating her heritage and her culture.
-
two other songs that i think is very easy for you to analyze is "eric" and "real men". you can understand pretty easily what those songs are talking about, so if these songs above aren't enough ^^ then i suggest you look into those two songs if you want more. thank you SO much for asking, i was literally vibrating with excitement because i LOVE being asked to analyze mitski's lyrics. i just love her messages so much and i think they're very powerful.

dipper and mabel: piedmont life
also this is borderline a fanfic but i have no motivation or peer pressure to actually write one. also warning there are OCās in this post. this is potentially part 1 of a series?
both of them are autistic but in different ways. dipper is a āi am so insecure of my place in the world that I can immediately notice when thereās a dip in a conversation because of meā who would rather be alone then face social rejection. mabel is a āi think im really good with people because i am so unaware of social cues that i think everyone is being nice to meā who learned how to tell fake vs true niceness.
neither of them were diagnosed as kids, and how they both figured out was due to mabel helping the disabled classroom at her school and noticing similar habits and thought process from them. then dipper did research and they were like āoh okay that makes sense.ā
in their sophomore year of high school, they both had identity crisisā but in different ways: dipper became an overly cocky ātoo cool for anyoneā loner while mabel had a raging emo phase. both of them became deeply embarrassed of those phases the second they got out of them.
in their 8th grade english class, they did a duo project where they explained their entire summer (the prompt was to tell a fantasy three act story). dipper did the reading while mabel did the visuals (aka one of those pop up books but bigger and with her sound effects). their teacher asked them where their vivid imaginations came from and they told some excuse about being bored all summer.
their parents (who i am naming ingrid and robert) are (rightfully) pissed and confused when their kids start showing major symptoms of ptsd and depression. stan has literally no excuse for it and the twins keep dodging the questions.
ingrid is a anxious, stuck up mother who prioritizes education while robert is the relaxed father who expects the world but refuses to give help or support. letās just say the twins donāt stay home as much. especially after the disaster the first week at home was when the twins brought waddles home.
after the summer, mabel gets into the trivia club and also tries out the science/engineering/robotics club (she also plays soccer, golf, and volleyball). her arts and crafts skills become incredibly useful when making a wooden structure with the purpose of finding the exact angle and falling distance for a marble. meanwhile dipper decides to try out for both track and football (heās also in photography club and the school newspaper). dipper is the weakest member on the football team, but heās the quickest runningback theyāve ever had, so the team doesnāt bully him too much for it. heās consistently in the top 5 for his school during track.
mabelās first high school friend is a black girl in her robotics club named aubrey. aubrey has adhd and has basically the same hobbies as mabel (i.e: karaoke, shopping, dancing, art). her second friend she meets at theater auditions (for the school musical, into the woods) where mabel watches her do a 10/10 audition performance and compliments her. she is south asian and named kamini, and her interests consist of theater, soccer, and english. her third friend ends up being the emo loner boy that she talks to on the first day. heās latino and his name is dante. his hobbies consist of skateboarding, karaoke, and video games.
dipperās first friend ends up being the younger brother of the football team captain, which is what makes the team stop bullying him. his friend is this kind of egotistical, yet himbo nerd of a dude named ethanā whoās a white boy with blond hair and freckles. ethan is interested in soccer and track as well as trivia, and they met during orientation week when they were the only two kids being ignored for the track club. dipperās second friend comes from his ap english class, where he watched them cuss out someone for trying to harass a girl in the class. theyāre asian and non binary and they go by paine. they like chess, english, and dnd, which is why dipper gets along with them so well.
dipper is able to convince ethan and paine to start a dnd session together, with dipper as dungeon master.
mabel eventually forces dipper into joining the program and dipper agrees to be backstage crew. it works out fine until they realize that their play has an unusually low tryout for men so mabel begs him to tryout for a lead role. he gets it because the programs desperate. he ends up playing either percy or grover in the lightning thief, and mabel gets casted as clarisse/katie/etc.
mabel loves taylor swift (specifically red, 1989, and lover) and also doja cat. she dabbles in ariana grande and marina from time to time as well. dipper has nightmares when he hears mabel, aubrey, and dante singing karaoke for first time.
dipper listens to cavetown and mitski mainly before paine and ethan lightly bully him into listening to the arctic monkeys and gorillaz. he creates aesthetic playlists for when heās monster/creature hunting. neither of his friends believe him when he describes super natural things until (on two separate occasions) he shows them videos of gravity falls shenanigans and when they run into anomalies in piedmont.
mabel ends up getting a crush on ethan and then dipper has that tragic disaster to deal with.
dipper gets a minor crush on kamini before he learns that she views him as this cute little thing to watch but not dateable.
due to dipperās boost in confidence, girls notice him and try to ask him out. he gets really flustered and confused, especially when girls who bullied him suddenly want to be with him. he rejects them all.
mabel realizes sheās bisexual when she gets a crush on aubrey and has a mental breakdown about it. she confesses, aubrey says that she doesnāt like the concept of dating at all, mabel takes the rejection decently, and they continue being the best of friends.
mabel gets jokingly asked out by a football boy and then dipper gets so pissed off he punches the dude in the face (mabel had no time to react, because if she did, she wouldāve also joined the fight). a fist fight ensues, they both get suspended, and no one messes with mabel ever again.
mabel ends up befriending nearly everyone due to how kind and considerate she is. even girls who hated her from middle school soften because of her. she is a god.
most people are neutral towards dipper due to how he doesnāt really initiate social interactions, but thatās how he likes it.
dipper is an avid buzzfeed unsolved fan while mabel watches danny gonzales, drew goodman, etc.
dipper is trans. he realized he was trans when he was like 8, and heās been a boy since. he was mainly bullied for being trans, but ever since he got confident, learned how to kick ass, and started taking testosterone, people have left him alone. also his name āmason,ā he specifically chose to appease his parents (who wanted two twins with āmā starting names that had 5 letters each), but he goes by dipper because thatās the name he wouldāve actually chosen.
the twins have separate rooms at their parents house, but they keep accidentally passing out on each otherās floors (or on mabelās beanbag, or at dipperās desk). their parents ask why all of a sudden and the twins say they just got closer over the summer. they would never admit itās because sleeping in the same room as someone who experienced the same trauma is relieving.
mabel constantly calls grenda and candy, reassuring them that while she also loves aubrey and kamini, that her gravity falls friends will always be her favorites.
robertās favorite child is mabel because, although he has unfair expectations of them, he gives mabel excuses because sheās more art and people focused, while heās overly harsh on dipper. ingridās favorite is dipper because he also likes puzzles, board games, and higher education, while she looks down upon mabel for being childish and irresponsible.
dipper refuses to give any explanation for having wendyās hat instead of a normal cap. theories range from āhe has a girlfriendā to āhe murdered a man for it.ā he also cried when a bully threw it in the trash once.
the twins have a bet for whoever becomes the tallest by the time they enter the mystery shack the next summer: whoeverās taller gets to pawn their summer chores off onto the other one for the whole summer. mabel gets at least 8 hours of sleep a night to help herself (though her diet is wack) while dipper eats a lot of height-growing food items to help himself (though heās never had a consistent sleep schedule in his life).
#gravity falls#gf headcanons#gravity falls headcanons#dipper pines#mabel pines#mystery twins#pines twins#i had to google football terminology for this and ask my boyf a lot of football related questions with 0 explanation#anyways back to my headcanons#bisexual mabel pines#bi mabel#transmasc dipper#bisexual mabel#trans dipper pines#mabel doesnāt have to be pansexual you guys#and if the twins are supposed to be identical#identical twins are impossible for opposite sex#so one of them is trans#and dipper has a lot of sus behavior when in reference to his masculinity#like way more than the average teenage boy#also heās not a misogynistic prick like irl teen boys#autistic mabel pines#autistic dipper pines#idc if you think im headcanoning every character as autistic#here are some neurotypical ppl: wendy pacifica robbie lazy susan gideon-#just dipper mabel stan ford mcgucket and soos are all autistic

Hi dropthedemiurge,
I am one of your new followers who stumbled onto your blog thanks to your metas for Love for Love's Sake. Thank you so much for them, the cultural and linguistic explanations add another layer to already well crafted show and I would definitely be sorry to miss them.
Talking of cultural differences, there is a thing I noticed in several kdramas and always wanted to find its meaning and didn't know who to ask. Maybe you would know?
When characters are drinking (alcohol) together, after toasting one another, they turn sideways to drink. Is there a cultural reason or meaning to this turn? Where I am from (Europe), we just chug it facing each other, no turning away.
Thank you in advance for answering me!
Hey! You're very welcome (I am also so happy to meet so many new people who are interested in discussing shows and Korean language/culture after Love for Love's Sake), and yes, I absolutely do know what you're talking about!!
Turning away after toasting to drink is truly a cultural thing! It has a lot to do with social & age hierarchy that is very crucial to Korean culture (or tbh, to many Asian countries). At the table you follow some specific rules, for example:
the youngest participant is usually setting the table, grilling the meat and pouring everyone's drinks
if you're drinking with someone older/higher than you, you turn away to drink (which is what you asked about, only the younger ones do it! out of politeness!)
to be polite, you hold the glass/bottle with two hands (or one hand supports your other arm); this is also very typical in grocery stores or anywhere where you need to give someone your bank card/cash/etc
the oldest one usually says toasts (like, the final one, but it depends on the gathering tbh)
Koreans also have a fascinating culture for company drinking and drinking games, I'll just show you a good video that talks about all these cultural differences during drinking, I think you'll find this video interesting! (the drinking starts in the second half of the video)
youtube
If you haven't watched Korean Englishman videos, I highly recommend you to! They are really great for showing all those interesting details (and they are also from Europe so you might feel relatable with their reactions :D)
And I'll just post screenshots with some of the rules that they pointed out if you don't have time to watch the video:
Tbh, if you're a foreigner and come to Korea to drink with students, like I did, no one would be scandalized or offended if you don't follow these rules but it's very interesting to exchange your drinking culture internationally and try out new things because Koreans are fascinated when you know some small things that are ingrained in their culture.
Fun fact, my drinking culture (Russian) sometimes clashes with Korean because they pour alcohol to each other mid-air and we shouldn't ever do it :D Also out of habit, I made all my Korean and foreign friends say reasons/speeches for toasts every time we drank because this is what I'm used to and they found it fun xD
Anyway, go watch the video! It's a lot of fun :] And I hope I satisfied your curiosity, now you'll watch dramas and think about this:DD

Call of Duty's Problems
It's important to know the problematic factors to media we consume, and then deciding for ourselves if it crosses the line. Just about everything we can consume in media is problematic in one way or another, nothing is perfect and it's gross and puritan to believe things should be.
But that doesn't change the fact that we still have to acknowledge those problems, and be critical thinkers about it.
I love Call of Duty, but I would be crazy not to admit that it has a dark side, even in recent games.
(I'm not debating the ethics of the FPS genre)
Propaganda
ID: photo of common USA military advertisement, called The Calling.
Being a Triple A video game from the United States of America, it isn't too shocking to admit that US Military propaganda has found it's way into the franchise. After all, Call of Duty depicts the United States' military, and they are very particular about how their image is perceived back home.
Like in many militaristic nations, living the United States lots of military propaganda is shoved down your throat.
Universities and high schools often have recruiters hanging about and running programs of their own. Young adults are tailored to get constant advertisements from military branches. The usual...
Media presenting the US military in bad light is often suppressed in the United States' own sneaky ways. This includes Call of Duty.
Repeatedly Call of Duty has been called out for participating in US propaganda, as well as often being used as a tool by the US military for conditioning teenagers. Some major cases of this include but are not limited to
Participating in a major decade long project of creating a gamer to soldier pipeline
Helping fund military advertisements
Depicting certain historical actions of the United States in skewed pro-US perspectives
Many of the older games including lots of anti-Russian, anti-Latin American/Hispanic, and anti-Asian plotlines. This has gotten better overtime, but it is not completely fixed.
Representing common US media stereotypes
Call of Duty is mostly very open about this, especially in recent years, as they have gotten in trouble for it before. However this isn't a problem sole to Call of Duty and can be seen in the majority of popular military based media in the United States, including shows, movies, podcasts, YouTube channels, and video games.
One game infamous for going against this, as well as going against the glorification of war in the media is Spec Ops: The Line if you're interested.
Harmful Historical Inaccuracies
Being simultaneously a historical fiction, sci-fi, and realism fiction it's expectant that Call of Duty would take advantage of history to tell a story. That's not the problem here.
The problem is when it's not there as part of the story, but instead a straight up historical inaccuracy that's supposed to be a fact. Call of Duty has done this multiple times.
Sometimes it's not only a historical inaccuracy but also a very harmful one, such as propagating skewed US history, lying about important fractions of history, or sweeping major events under the rug.
The most infamous and recent of this example is the highway of death presented in Modern Warfare II (2022).
The IRL Highway of Death is in the Middle Eastern country Kuwait, and was a site for major war crimes committed by the United States. The Highway of Death received its name during the Gulf War. The highway, outside of Kuwait City was viscously bombarded by artillery, ships, and especially air craft by the United States.
The US claimed there was a convoy there that they had the right to destroy, but their excessive force destroyed over 2000 vehicles with photos showing the vehicles to primarily be civilian ones. It was an intense massacre that doesn't even scratch the surface of other US crimes in that area.
How does Modern Warfare II portray it? Well it's a subtle singular line spoken by the characters, claiming that the Russians did the Highway of Death.
This is a major dodging of responsibility, and anti-russian/eastern propaganda. For obvious reasons it made many people (especially Slavic players) furious.
It isn't the first or only example of this in Call of Duty games, or FPS games in general, but it's a significant one.
This article from the Polygon does a very good job talking about the Highway of Death Controversy -> [x]
Activision-Blizzard
Oh Activision-Blizzard... What a mess!
If you're unaware, Activision-Blizzard is a large video game mega corporation in the United States. It has ownership of tons and tons of iconic video game series.
And it's had tons and tons and tons of controversies.
Even right now it's major controversy is Microsoft buying it, which would make it into a monopoly of video games as Microsoft owns many series, and electronics (including the xbox console)
In the recent years and past Activision-Blizzard has had many problems with its workplace, video game finance decisions, and more. This includes a lot of employee misconduct, including infamous cases of sexual harassment in the workplace.
(Jesse McCree -> Cole Cassidy)
It's also been caught with lower pay for female employees, gives incredibly difficult deadlines for video game devs to meet, and generally is known to treat its employees like shit.
Call of Duty itself has been guilty for a lot of this activision-blizzard behavior too.
The sole companies themselves have done tremendous work in increasing diversity, and workplace safety in both their casts, developers, and even inside the games themselves.
Call of Duty is currently praised for this as it has made great strides, however this doesn't cover up how terrible Activision-Blizzard is to people. In fact it should be a major worry as Microsoft and Activision-Blizzard can easily regress that progress in name of bigotry, capitalism, and the United States.
What does this mean for Cod fans?
Unfortunately, like most major video game corporations, we are enjoying at our own risks. This is not a "LeTS BoYCotT cOd!" or a call to abandon the franchise.
It's instead a call to bring awareness that this is nowhere near a perfect franchise, and a franchise with many significant problems and a long history.
I'm going to continue playing the game of course
And you can too, except with a little bit more knowledge

Character bio of the Asian Pasifika demigod and Afro Latine Native alien hybrid superhero main character part 3
Bionic and Cybernetic Prosthetic eye:Ā
They have a prosthetic bionic and cybernetic right eye. The prosthetic bionic and cybernetic eye is made out of alien metal and human metal. They have a blue plasma scar that goes from the top of their face on their left forehead all the way to the bottom of their cheek. The scar goes through their left eyebrow. They were blinded in one eye by accident early on in their life as a metahuman and superhuman super soldier and military officer.Ā
However their caretakers managed to craft, buy, or otherwise procure some kind of device that allowed them to see more or less like normal people. He/she/they are physically disabled as someone because he/she/they were disfigured in combat during war. He/she/they were disfigured by a hard light bullet wielded by an alien officer who was a sniper of the Earth military of the Terran Dominion.Ā
At some point in the past he/she/they have lost use and function to a part of himself/herself/themselves. But through study of advanced technology and the help of those who have already done so he/she/they have replaced it with an advanced prosthetic replacement.Ā Without the eye they had decreased depth perception. It was built for them by humans and aliens who were inventors, scientists, engineers. Losing your eye is fairly easy in a world filled with technology and magic. Gaining back your sight is still possible if you have the brass, copper, silver, platinum, & or gold coin, cash, or credits for it.Ā
In the biggest cities in the counties, states, countries, & continents on the terraformed and colonized planetoids, comets, moons, asteroids, & planets of the Federation you can find merchants of all kinds. However to gain your sight back you must approach only the best human and alien mechanics, inventors, & scientists in the city. They can install the device in two days. The first day is spent on measurements and creating the components while the second day is spent installing the apparatus.Ā
Purchasing a bionic and cybernetic prosthetic eye gains your sight back and much more. These devices not only return your vision but also prevent further eye loss with the diamond hard lenses and human and alien metal. Fires powerful optic blasts from the bionic and cybernetic prosthetic eye. Can see throughout the electromagnetic spectrum. It lets them see in the dark with night vision or heat signatures with heat vision. Can help with targeting with guns. Has a gps. Has real time updates about users stats. Can zoom in and zoom out with a binocular vision to microscopic to even nanoscopic levels. Has a red dot laser to help with sniping.Ā
He/she/they can remove the bionic and cybernetic eye to use as a spy eye to record audio and visual. It is detachable and can send images and video to its owner while detached functioning as a spy camera. They have the ability to remove one's mechanical eye and use it to view hard-to-see areas during certain situations after placing it somewhere. The eye is not in any way connected to the owner yet it operates just as well as it was. It functions as aĀ surveillance drone or spy camera.Ā
This artificial eye replaces a real one that was lost or removed. They can see through it as though it were a normal eye. This is truly a luxury item for the blind. While the eye is embedded in their eye socket. It canāt be removed by anyone other than them. The eye upgraded with them. The eye has been customized and upgraded many times now. It gives the user the ability of eidetic memory and memory retention. It can copy anything it perceives. Gives the user near 360 telescopic and binocular vision. It has three blindspots. These blindspots are hard to exploit though.Ā
Biological eye can shapeshift into a supernatural eye (divine eye, devil eye, or draconic eye) with ultimate vision and all ocular powers for a limited time. This magical eye gives many magical and supernatural powers. It allows the user to shoot magical optic blasts in the forms of magical beams or lasers from their eyes. The magical eye lets them mind control other people, but only who look directly into their prosthetic eye, for a few minutes.Ā
The arcane eye lets them see through illusions. These powers are because of a magical eye. The magical eye was upgraded. It gives them the superpower of ultimate vision with magic. They can see throughout the electromagnetic spectrum on a supernatural level. Allows users to see through supernatural disguises. Magic eye gives them superhuman perception, knowledge, charisma, wisdom, intelligence, & luck.Ā
Can summon a third eye for more power for a limited time. Bizarre irises or unusual pupils mark the individual. It is a third magical eye. The third eye blocks unwanted telepathy from telepaths and empaths. The third eye makes the user invisible for several minutes. The third eye lets them hypnotize enemies with illusions but only with direct line of sight. Lets them summon and command low level celestials and infernals such as demons and angels. It lets them summon imps and mustevals as familiars. Allows users to use all elements such as fire, water, storm, rock, & nature as an elementalist. It lets them see magical signatures. It lets them see invisible creatures. It lets them speed up or slow down their perception of time for a few minutes.Ā
They canāt time travel using the eye though. It lets them see a few minutes into the future with the power of precognition, clairvoyance, & divination. It protects them from telepathy and telepaths such as mind flayers. It lets them use a penance stare or petrifying gaze on enemies who look directly into the eye for a few minutes. Allows users the ability to see through dimensional rifts or interplane disturbances only for a few seconds. Gives the user the ability to use true sight for a few minutes. Using these magical powers through the magical third eye is taxing on their energy, stamina, & endurance so they donāt use it often. They got the third eye after an encounter with a primordial being as a demigod (who became a true god after being given divinity through heroic deeds, accomplishments, & achievements).Ā
Bionic and Cybernetic Arm:
Automotive Armored Prosthetic Cybernetic Bionic Arm. They have an automotive armored prosthetic bionic and cybernetic right arm. He/she/they are physically disabled as someone because he/she/they were disfigured in combat during war. He/she/they were disfigured by an alien super soldier of the Terran Empire. At some point in the past he/she/they have lost use and function to a part of himself/herself/themselves. But through study of the sciences and the help of those who have already done so he/she/they have replaced it with an advanced high-end prosthetic bionic cybernetic replacement. It is a prosthesis that replaces a missing extremity such as an arm or leg.Ā
The type of limb used is determined by the extent of amputation or loss of the missing extremity and the location of the missing extremity. Artificial limbs are needed for a variety of reasons where a body part is either missing from the body or a body part is too damaged to be repaired. It was built for them by an engineer, an inventor, & mechanic. It was installed on their body through a team of highly trained surgeons and doctors. Having artificial prosthetic limbs comes with a number of complications. Some of which are minor inconveniences while others can be dangerous if ignored.Ā
Due to the constant risk of damage and mechanical failures the mechanical prosthetics require daily maintenance and repair. It is maintained and repaired regularly by a team of mechanics and surgeons. The automotive armored prosthetic bionic prosthetic arm is highly upgradable and highly customizable. The prosthetic is linked directly to the nervous system taking electrical pulses from nerves to regulate the many electrical motors and actuators inside the prosthetic bionic arm. It can be moved at will like a natural appendage. This augment functions as if it were the normal body part. These constructs are designed to replace lost limbs if magical healing is not available or if the user desires to have an improved replacement.Ā
The automotive mechanized bionic prosthetic arm has electrical motors, gears, & springs. The bionic arm is made with a full skeletal titanium frame with steel armor plating to protect the wires and intricate machinery inside. The automotive armored prosthetic bionic arm moves using synthetic muscles and fibers. It is a fully articulated prosthetic arm with multiple moving parts capable of manipulating even weapons.Ā Once the prosthetic is attuned to its user it will behave and act as the limb it replaces. It moves according to conscious and unconscious thoughts and commands from its user. This was a prosthetic intended to replace lost limbs and damaged organs. This advanced prosthetic replaced and enhanced the lost limb. The prosthetic bionic arm was painted to look like their real biological arm.Ā
First perfected by humans and alien humanoids the armored automotive prosthetic bionic arms arms are now built by several master inventors and engineers. The bionic arm provides an almost perfect semblance of full functionality but is quite expensive. The recovery time it took for the user to recover from the automotive armored prosthetic bionic arm after doctors and surgeons installed on their body took three months. It does not require an external energy source. It has a built-in battery. The automotive armored prosthetic bionic arm is electrical and fusion powered.Ā Ā
The prosthetic arm has built in tools. From tools to concealed weapons. Only one tool can be summoned at a time. Summoning another one cancels out the previous tool. His/her/their bionic and cybernetic prosthetic arm comes with a built-in wrist computer, a built-in photon cannon, a built in plasma shield, & built-in wrist serrated blades made out of hard light and plasma.
Has built in hard light wrist blades covered in plasma. The blades take the form of fully retractable extended serrated blades. These blades are twenty inches in length and ten inches wide. They offer greatly increased range owing to their greater size. The wrist blades can be folded away completely when not in use. These are blades that extend over the back of the hand from a gauntlet worn on the userās wrist. Its single gauntlet on one wrist fitted with a pair of parallel blades. The deadly blades are sharp enough to cut through steel and titanium armor. After the upgrade they possessed wrist blades with triple blades. When fully extended, these wrist blades can be as long as a user's leg. Giving the user significant range in melee combat. These are an advanced pair of wrist blades that could completely retract into the wrist gauntlet. They can fire the wrist blades out of the gauntlet like a harpoon as projectile weapons in emergencies.
Has a stowed cannon. A small explosive incendiary ion and photon cannon was discretely built into their mechanical limb. They use it as a portable cannon that fires ballistic and hard light cannon balls. It is able to tear through steel armor.Ā
Has a deployable harpoon gun with grappling hook. They use it to traverse environments when jumping across or jumping up is too far. They use it to pull out obstacles. It allows them to rappel down from high heights. A deployable, spiked grappling hook is built into their mechanical arm. The grappling hook allows their users to make death-defying leaps from point-to-point by latching onto sky lines with the knowledge that they will automatically latch on.Ā
Has a deployable shield. A basic folded, iron, copper, and bronze round square shield was built into the forearm. It was upgraded into a gold, platinum, and silver metal rectangular shield. It was upgraded into a steel and titanium diamond shield. They have to be repaired though. This shield was finally upgraded with a forcefield generator and shield generator. This allows the steel and titanium shield to be covered in an energy shield, plasma shield, & hard light shield. The shields have to be recharged though with a built in battery. These shields were built into the forearm of their artificial limb. They use it to protect themselves.Ā
The automotive armored prosthetic arm is also a cyberware enhanced bionic arm. This prosthetic bionic arm is made of steel, gold, silver, electrum, nickel, brass, titanium, platinum, & copper for durability. However, contemporary technological advancements have allowed certain automotive armored prosthetic bionic limbs to be composed of other materialsĀ as to be less cumbersome and more durable than steel in abnormal conditions. This prosthetic bionic arm is also made with a weave of chrome, fiberglass, aluminum, & carbon fiber for flexibility.Ā
Like wearers of normal prosthetics these users are subject to various aches and pains resulting from drastic changes in barometric pressure. However another drawback to full steel limbs are the adverse effects which occur in extreme conditions such as heat and cold. In extremely high temperatures the metals which conduct and retain heat induce great deals of discomfort to the user. Who must remain with a heated metal object grafted to the skin. In extremely cold temperatures the cold conducting metals cause standard oils to cease functioning as well as expedite frostbite damage to the connecting tissue. This means that the bionic arm is also made of lighter more expensive alloys that is resistant to extreme temperature changes so the armored automotive prosthetic bionic arm no longer suffers the ill effects of certain extreme heat and extreme cold environments.Ā
Having a functional mechanical prosthetic affixed to one's body can be a difficult and painful process. Additional amputations are often required as a prosthetic base can typically only be safely affixed at joints. For an artificial limb to function correctly. A "base" needs to be surgically affixed to an amputee's body. The base serves as both a support structure and interface for artificial limbs.
The prosthetics themselves are affixed to the base and must be customized by a team of a tinkerer, inventor, surgeon, doctor, scientist, and or trained mechanic in order to correctly fit the frame and body size of their wearer. As a result, the prosthetics themselves come in a large variety of shapes and styles depending on the team constructing the piece and the client's own personal tastes. This metal mechanical prosthetic. Once attached to a functional prosthetic base. It allows the user the same range of motion and functionality of the arm or leg it is replacing.
This is a high quality prosthetic bionic replacement that is made to look life-like (at least at first glance). This artificial prosthetic limb is much less bulky than its counterparts. Since its frame more closely follows the contours of an organic biological limb. The exterior and interior of its chassis is lined with precious gemstones, crystals, metals, and complex alien engravings. Engraved with intricate decorations and animated with holograms. A powerful sensor provides full sensory feedback to its user allowing all sorts of tasks to be accomplished with the limb.Ā
Having artificial prosthetic limbs comes with a number of complications. Some of which are minor inconveniences while others can be dangerous if ignored. Due to the constant risk of damage and mechanical failures the mechanical prosthetics require daily maintenance and repair. It is maintained and repaired regularly by a team of mechanics and artificers. The automotive armored prosthetic bionic arm is highly upgradable and highly customizable. The prosthetic is linked directly to the nervous system taking electrical pulses from nerves to regulate the many electrical motors and actuators inside the prosthetic bionic arm. It can be moved at will like a natural appendage. This augment functions as if it were the normal body part.Ā
It was upgraded with large glowing red, blue, green, gold, silver, & violet bold alien crystals. The bionic arm comes with a built-in sonar to detect nearby enemies and allies. Some of the more creative and talented prosthetics inventors, & engineers have been known to include all sorts of devices in prosthetic limbs. Some ranging from helpful tools to dangerous weapons. Including some with questionable legality. Some intrepid amputees have even been known to tinker with their limbs on their own time. However you go about it, modifying an artificial limb requires great expertise and tends to be costly.Ā
The prosthetic bionic arm was later weaponized and upgraded with human and alien metals for combat situations as a military grade augmentation. This makes the prosthetic arm built with a lot of durability and so would not break easily even with high output performances in combat. Based on the technology used to construct a robot, power armor, or an exosuit using alien metal and human metal is shaped into a single limb. These constructs are designed to replace lost limbs if the user desires to have an improved replacement. Once the prosthetic is attuned to its user it will behave and act as the limb it replaces. According to conscious and unconscious commands from its user. These limbs are of a stronger and lighter design. Designed to serve another function in addition to their use as a limb.Ā
Usually these limbs have a hidden compartment, concealed weapon or a set of tools. Such as a hard light arm blade and a plasma cannon. These additional functions can be used at will. These limbs are designed to shift, adjust and grow. Prostheses made of alien alloy can grow organically and form so many things if reasonable. Metal limbs can shift to form whatever other form the host can imagine, but cannot gain or lose mass. While deactivated, these limbs seem to be little more than simple alien and human metal plates, but once attached and active these limbs appear as masses of energy forming whatever shape their host imagines.Ā
The armored automotive prosthetic bionic arm comes with a built in injection system with multicolored serums. These serums are contained in vials that are unknown glowing cardinal, cerulean, emerald, silver, tangerine, gold, & violet fluids.Ā
These serums are made from human and alien materials found throughout the federations, empires, & confederacies of human and alien humanoids of the multiverse that are then ground up and mixed into concoctions, brews, potions, & elixirs. That when injected from the bionic prosthetic arm into the biological body through the injection system greatly enhances the user's strength, dexterity, constitution, durability, perception, awareness, intelligence, endurance, stamina, agility, flexibility, reflexes, dexterity, & speed at a supernatural level.Ā
The serum injection system also has a separate glowing obsidian vial that when injected into the user through the bionic arm with a time limit of a few minutes turns the user into a controlled berserker. Allowing them to fight at their fullest potential at a superhuman level without limits by weaponizing their inherent biology as a metahuman demigod and superhuman alien hybrid. It lets them release themselves of all rational restraints in battle. It lets them go into a controlled induced rage mode and combat enhanced mode but without the side effect of a berserker rage.Ā
It lets them immerse themselves completely in combat as a controlled berserker becoming a powerful ally for friends and a dangerous enemy for foes. As a controlled berserker they can tell the difference between ally and foe. They can ignore physical damage with pain suppression and injury immunity as if it never affected them and continue fighting past their limits but only for several minutes. It makes them unpredictable when fighting enemies and hard to counter. As a controlled berserker the userās intelligence is not affected like a regular berserker.Ā
However the side effect is the severe backlash when the controlled berserker rage is over. The main side effect is while a user is only able to ignore the effects of pain and injuries while sustained in the berserker state. These injuries take full effect when they come out of the induced berserker rage once these chemicals wear off. They have to heal from the damage and pain on their own with their healing factor. The other side effect is that it leaves the user exhausted for several minutes as they run out of endurance and stamina.
This is based on the magical humanoid technology of the world of the Afro Asian Native variant human, fae elvish, goblinoid, & giant kin ancestry adventurer whoās a spellcaster, sword fighter, & gunslinger. It was created when the Afro Asian character came to the near and far future from their own modern but not futuristic world with magic (imagine 1950s but with magic) on a magical giant planet. They came over through a singularity or anomaly that bridged their worlds together.

Stellar Rogue
This week I found a game ready 3D character breakdown article on 80. LVL by Ida Faber, a 3D Character Artist.
Ida Faber, an artist from Latvia, she began her journey into 3D art in 2019 while studying Law and Diplomacy. Ā Driven by her love for video games and Asian design influences, Ida focused on making human characters and eventually decided to work independently, inspired by a mentor who guided her in areas like rigging, sculpting, and texturing. Over time, she transitioned into selling her 3D models online.
Stellar Rogue - Game Ready (Faber, 2024b)
Currently, Ida focuses on creating game-ready characters for platforms like Unity and Unreal Engine. She employs a detailed workflow, starting with sculpting in ZBrush and progressing through retopology, UV mapping, texturing, and rigging, using various software tools like Maya, Blender, and Substance 3D Painter. She emphasizes the importance of understanding each step of the process and staying committed to completing projects without getting negatively affected by perfectionism. Idaās work is heavily influenced by her interest in video games, particularly those with Asian aesthetics, and she continues to refine her craft while also mentoring others.
Ā I think Ida Faber's journey as a 3D character artist emphasizes the importance of passion, adaptability, continuous learning, and persistence for aspiring artists. Her experience shows that discovering and following your true passion is crucial, as it drives commitment and growth. She highlights the value of being adaptable and willing to learn new skills, which is essential in the rapidly evolving 3D industry.
Ida also underscores the significance of completing projects, rather than getting down by perfectionism, and the impact of finding good learning resources and mentors. Her career path illustrates that there are various ways to succeed in 3D art, whether through studio work, freelancing, or selling your own creations. For aspiring 3D artists, Ida's journey offers valuable lessons in staying motivated, continuously improving, and exploring different opportunities in the field.
This article will serve as an important foundation in my 3D art career, to keep me focused and motivated through different challenges. Perfectionism not always the best approach in a project development, which will be significantly important in this FMP period.

Cultural Appropriation- Yang Hyun-suk and so many early YG Entertainment groups.
Cultural Appreciation - Park Jin-young (JYP Entertainment)
YG Entertainment likes to take directly from R&B and Hip Hop. Like so many of the early acts under that company are cringe worthy. They even had a girl group that released a video that was a shot by shot remake of TLC's No Scrubs music video. They put out acts like Masta Wu, 1TYM and even Big Bang. These acts did nothing but copy black American musicians. Even the ones who came from America were cringe worthy. Cause these Asian men were actually trying to be hard, when in reality they probably were brought up in an racist household that hated black people. (LA Riots)
Park Jin-young on the other hand has a great appreciation for black American musicians. He actually respects their hard work and their craft. You can see it in his music that he puts out and his artists. Rain sung with the same passion that many 90s R&B acts had, but JYP never dressed him up to "look black" or made him do outlandish things. Now, JYP has definitively made some mistakes, but I think most people can tell that those mistakes were culturally insensitive and weren't done with malice.
So even though Yang Hyun-suk isn't involved in YG Entertainment, it doesn't surprise me that YG Entertainment is still chugging out wannabe black Korean idols. The ones who think in order to like black music, they need to wear a durag and shout the n word. The ignorant idols that don't even bother to actually learn the history behind the n word or the history of hip-hop. Cause in reality their love for hip-hop and R&B is surface level only. They just like the way they talk, dress and act. They don't wanna study the real meaning of lyrics. Meaning they will dance to We Gonna Be Alright by Kendrick Lamar, but won't look up the lyrics and find out what the song actually means. Also, many of these idols don't behave this way around their parents or family.

The Origins of Nuggets:
Nuggets have come a long way since their inception, and understanding their origins adds a layer of appreciation to these delectable treats. The concept of nuggets, particularly chicken nuggets, traces back to the 1950s in the United States. Fast-food establishments started to capitalize on the appeal of bite-sized, crispy chicken pieces, creating a phenomenon that quickly spread worldwide. Over the years, the term "nuggets" has expanded beyond poultry, encompassing a myriad of ingredients and innovative cooking techniques.

01.04.24 in front of a giant monitor that isn't mine, playing decluttering & mealprep youtube videos
today i wore a puffer jacket that is slightly too big for me and have been using my old intern backpack, and i felt like 2019/early 2020 me of several lifetimes ago, the me that i was when i first moved to the city, and it feels like it's changing my brain chemistry -- it takes me back to the version of me that mostly steadily moved through the week with a purpose, though i know now that it was borrowed for the time being.
i also drifted to the museum to work for the day, where i strode around a bit, startling european tourists upon turning corners. afterwards, i set up at the cafe to read through the shortlisted submissions to the creative section, and picked my favorites and maybes, with brief comments. i'm still reading through the food issue of the kenyon review, and i'm happily gutted by how my favorite pieces end up being the essays -- i loved reading about people's experiences with food, the kind of solace it brings them, and in some instances, how it is a site of exacting control. it reminds me of how i said to someone once (or maybe i just tweeted this somewhere) how food felt like one of the first places i could continually practice taking care of myself, could be wholly self-indulgent and self-concerned. [afaik i have not felt like i've had a disordered relationship to eating, just that solo meals are one of my simple pleasures, in the way solo reading time can be too.] while i'm reading, someone sat across from me for a bit with a sketchpad, and we both sat there silently, scratching away at our respective surfaces of paper.
at trader joe's i pick up protein-laden things; a protein smoothie made with chai, almond, coconut; a pack of salmon; frozen bowls of chicken shawarma, vegetarian bulgogi, chicken sausage. i've missed having a grocery shopping routine, missed getting to wander around the aisles, picking specific bites alongside staples for the week. i like to imagine myself in one of those cozy slice of life animes, basking in the whimsy and pleasantness of a routine that brings me so much delight.
there's a whole slew of girls on youtube, asian and not, who film themselves going about their days solo, working on their laptops, mealprepping, decluttering their closets, remaking their apartments, crafting, and it feels like a kind of digital parallel play when i'm trying to get myself to do the thing that they're doing on camera. i've heard several of them, including a distant friend i first met a few years ago, speak into the camera the feeling of loneliness that their 20something existences in their respective cities are permeated with, and i'm reminded of this image on twitter, an illustration juxtaposing solitude and loneliness: one is a dog carrying its own leash with a look of contentment; another is a dog snarling and straining against its leash, tied to a post.
even if both involve being by oneself, one feels at ease in solitude, and trapped by loneliness. and the out-of-illustration mechanics that produce either feeling: perhaps the ability to choose, which means access to steady connection, shared presence and time. i sound like a broken record when i say -- i am so grateful -- but i am so grateful! the last week has been so quiet, and i've spent almost all of my time by myself, with a handful of hangouts with friends, and it has felt so good to recollect myself in a way i only know how when i'm by myself.
oh! and because the city still feels visibly empty, like people have yet to get back from the city, i think it's been some kind of inadvertent placebo guard against fomo -- or, it's a come down from all of the (wonderful) holiday gatherings that were planned around the same time -- or, i'm in a rare moment when i know what my next month or so of classes (!!) & social plans will be (i am wondering if this is what my older friends whose calendars seem much more set's lives are like - plans with longtime friends, set much more deliberately and farther ahead in time hahaha)
amid this afternoon, someone from the arts commission called me to remind me to update my grant application before tomorrow in order to continue on in the consideration process, and i'm both thrilled to know i'm still in the running and can add more information, and daunted -- i want to intellectualize reasons why i'm daunted, but it all chalks up to, i've never done something like this before, and i care very much about it. so i shift from "why am i daunted" to "what youtube videos will i play in the background that somehow appeases whatever part of my brain doesn't want to do this?"

SYNOPSIS: Exasperated removal men give up on a tardy client, leaving their possessions in a snow-filled street. Gyeol is left to single-handedly move her worldly goods, including a mattress, into an apartment where her boyfriend Yoonlies sleeping. The mattress has a label attached promising a āfantastic combination of sleeping science and human engineering.ā A mysterious mold starts spreading across the surface of the mattress, a sentient creature begins to take shape from within. The countdown begins, 337 days before birth. When the couple subsequently break up, they leave behind the mattress with the fungus that continues to grow. The creature grows stronger, finding nourishment not only in the bones and sinew it assimilates but seeming to feed on the emotions of the humans who come into contact with it.
REVIEW: THE FIFTH THORACIC VERTEBRA is a creepy, surreal quest of an awakening mattress fungus that is stealing bits from humans to complete its transformation. Kind of like a Frankenstein monster in training, with a bit of the proposition posed by āInvasion of the Body Snatchers.ā What I found even more shocking is the lack of mattress hygiene in South Korea, where the filmmaker is from and is set. As the story progresses, clearly the mattress becomes grungier. At one point it falls off a truck and still makes its way indoors, stain and all. In its travels it also picks up some of the karma from the humans it encounters. Also, as it grows, what it requires for its evolution/transformation has more dire consequences on the humans it runs into. Those stories add some interesting moments to the tale. They all focus on stress filled, emotional relationships. They are compelling of themselves but it is interesting how it imprints on the fungus, and how it inevitably results in the mattress ends up moving on. As you watch the film the title of the film will in the end make sense.
Filmmaker Park Sye-young wears multiple key hats in crafting the film. I wish I could provide more details of the talent in front of and behind the camera but the credits were not translated in the release I screened. I very much enjoyed the cinematography, the lighting, the edits, the angles, the creepy concepts and animation of the fungus and the mattress. The offers a variety of feels that vary from organic and gritty, to surreal and dreamlike. The sound design added depth to the uncomfortable feel of the film. I wish I could tell you the composer's name for the film, but it is an excellent composition that enhances and adds a variety of elements to the film.
The film features a solid ensemble cast. It feels like the horror equivalent of a Niel Simon movie/play, an anthology film with several stories revolving around a single location or element. The cast feels organic, drawing the viewer in and taking them on their journey until they pass it off to the next performers, the mattress serving as the baton. The stories are engaging and the performances feature a rich emotional palette.
THE FIFTH THORACIC VERTEBRA is one of those creepy, quirky and thought provoking Asian films you end up hearing about and end up going on a quest to seek it out. The film will be available on Indiepix Films, Amazon Video and coming to DVD December 12th, 2023. In light of the game āThe Last of Us,ā THE FIFTH THORACIC VERTEBRA will leave you never looking at the mold on food or anything that shows up around your home the same way again. Oh, and Iāve become a bit suspicious of my mattress.

Film Journal #3: WWII & 1940s
Disney's "Pinocchio", released in 1940 has been known as one of their "most beloved classic", known for its fantastic animation and captivating story.
Based off of C.Collodi's book, it's about a wooden doll named Pinnochio and his creator Geppetto, who wishes Pinnochio's a real boy. A fairy miracously does, in fact grant his wish though - giving the wooden doll life. However, there's a little bit of a catch, he must prove himself worthy to be a real boy whilst having the challenge of holding the burden of a large wooden nose that grows whenever he lies. Having the consequence of a growing nose will sway him away from deceit when earning his right to be human. He ends up venturing through many adventures whilst having the aid of a cricket named Jiminy.
It's a beautiful story of human nature which is displayed through a stunning array of colours and soulful animation. The writing and dialogue itself is also applauded and taken notice of as its humour is spliced with tragicness and suspense throughout.
"The film has been deemed "culturally significant" by the Library of Congress in 1994 and was thus selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry." The themes and morals that are discussed throughout really hit hard with many, to not be selfish and to act on brave and kind virtues instead of only looking after one's self's needs.
The music of course too, as in most Disney films, became timeles classics, like "When You Wish upon a Star".
During its production it was put off for some time as "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" were put on as the most current priority to get completed. It took about two years to complete, attempting to master not only the technique needed for the movie but Disney was heavy on wanting everything to replicate real life as much as possible. So they even crafted their own 3D wooden Pinniochio doll, as well as Geppetto's cuckoo clock, in order to help them achieve realistic and believable qualities.
As for the theatrical release of Pinnochio, "It premiered in New York City on February 7 and in Los Angeles two days later." It actually fell abit short at first, as American audiences were a bit startled from the heavy themes that they were going over in the film. It after all was adapted from an Italian book, so European audiences probably would have reacted more positively however Eurpoean and Asian access to the film was cut off due to the World War II. People worried that maybe the movie was too frightening for younger viewers especially with how many villainous forces there are placed throughout.
So financially the movie didn't benefit as much as they foresaw, but in the end it was at least recognized for its hard work and did earn some criticically acclaimed praise from others. It also did end up winning some awards too, like for its music score. So it definitely was a mixed bag when it came to the audience's feedback as it seemed it was moreover 50/50, teetering more to the positive.
"The film has been deemed "culturally significant" by the Library of Congress in 1994 and was thus selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry." It truly left a lasting impression on the animation world.

Similarly to many other fairytales and Disney adapted films, a lot of those childhood beloved characters have been returning in the 20th century in almost every media you can see. It's been very popular recently to give the well known classics a big twist and play around with already familiar themes into a different genre. Video games in particular like to make the big shift of bringing them into a more dark realm. Much like the other blog post I wrote about Alice in Wonderland which was adapted into a horror game, Pinnochio currently is going to turn into a dark fantasy story, called "Life of Pi" in the video game format. Admittedly there is something so fascinating about recycling an old idea and giving it life once again, and seeing how different the original concept can become as well as adapt to an older audience. I'm very excited to see that game come out soon, it looks great - plus I'm a big dark fantasy/horror game enjoyer so this seems right up my alley!
