How it started vs how it's going:

Me when characters are so completely, irrevocably changed by their experiences and relationships and trauma to the point where you could hold them at the start and the end of their stories up against each other and they'd be practically unrecognisable, like two different people, and they've changed for the better yet in the process lost their inncocence and gone to hell and back, and yet deep down there's still that undeniable part of them that makes them them.

There are all these streaming platforms with the newest of new shows, and yet the only things I have heavily invested in are old school terrestrial television programming like Ghosts and All Creatures Great and Small.

The only exception was Ted Lasso, but I hate that I can't just buy series one on DVD to watch as many times as I want. I resent endlessly renting , because that's ultimately what a subscription is, being the only option. At least Ghost and All Creatures have had DVD releases.

Don’t mind me just thinking a lot about how in DBK’s flashback Wukong looks shady as heck with that expression on his face, while in the unbiased flashback he looks like that, yet again this invades my brain. 

It’s rare he actually makes that expression that we see in DBK’s flashback, but I can think of one other instance that expression shows up

ok so… lunarry was my first ever rarepair before i even knew that rarepairs were a thing…

so like. what made me so compelled with them is the scene with the thestrals. they’re the only two people who can see them, because they both watched their mothers die.. and then they just form this very sweet and unlikely friendship. ’i’ll ask someone i like, someone cool’ <- harry about asking luna to the slug club thing. he’s just so charmed by her <3

she’s the only one who treats him as just a Regular Guy. he’s never just a regular guy with anyone, not even his two best friends because the three of them are always roped into quests and boy who lived-missions. i love the golden trio more than anything, and harry loves his best friends more than anything, but luna is the only one who treats him as just some guy and he’s constantly drawn to her because of it … they’re so autistic4autistic social weirdos <3

here are some hc’s i have for them post war:

harry becomes a recluse after the war, hiding himself away at grimmauld place and avoiding everyone. his best friends can’t get through to him either because they’re just too close and he’s too traumatized. he’s not going to weasley sunday brunches, not talking to anyone, nearly becomes agoraphobic because whenever he does leave the house there’s always someone there who wants to personally thank him OR someone who blames him

but eventually luna finds him, whether she tracks him down with purpose or just because she felt like spending time with him, and he lets her in. she doesn’t talk about the war, doesn’t treat him like he’s breakable or traumatized, doesn’t treat him like she owes him anything. just continues to treat him like any other guy, talking to him about magical creatures and looking around for nargles, doing silly magic together and drinking tea and watching films and slowly but surely harry starts becoming himself again, starts smiling again, starts respondint to his friends letters, starts actively inviting luna over, starts visiting her instead, coming with her on the avdentures she goes on

i always see them stumbling into a relationship rather than actively asking each other out. harry asks luna if she’s seeing someone and she says ’yeah, im seeing you?’ and that’s that. it’s such a gradual thing, months or maybe a few years of slowburn. neither of them in a hurry to get anywhere because they’re always been friends first. they’ll always be friends first . the foundation of their relationship will always be FRIENDSHIP !!

they move somewhere together, some cottage somewhere away from the wizarding world. just the two of them in a house and lots of land. harry keeps grimmauld place, stays thete sometimes when he needs to, and because he doesn’t want people to know where he actually lives. the only two people he tells is ron and hermione obviously, but other than that no one knows where he is or where he lives. his letters gets sent to grimmauld, etc

’WHERES THE BOY WHO LIVED ?????’ the daily prophet says <- no one has seen him in YEARS. wel!!!!! he’s out counting stars with his dreamer girlfriend and tending to the thestrals they own together. they’re domestic and love working with their hands, growing their own foods, taking care of magical creatures, doing magical experiments, painting and repainting their walls, cooking, etc etc etc. they love their solitude and can be quiet with each other, but they also make each other laugh <3

Congratulations! Welcome to the "I finished tr club"! I actually don't think I can choose a favourite arc though, I just can't settle on one. I think a lot of people would agree with your tenjiku pick though, it is a fantastic arc and is very popular exactly for that reason!

I agree that I would've liked the time leaps, especially the origin of them to be explained a bit more. I would've also really liked it if we got a proper explanation of Hanma's story, thetes been theories about it but it just feels unfinished. However my top pick would definitely be Sanzu and Takeomi's backstory/ relationship. Wakui actually mentioned in an interview that he wanted to go more into it and had a plan for it but he couldn't find the right place to include it so he left it. I do feel like the the two of them could've done with a bit more backstory (especially the incident with Takeomi's scar and Sanzu running away) and knowing we could've gotten it but didn't just makes me want it more. But these are just small things I would've liked and ultimately I loved the ending.

I write about myself to put things in their place.

Herodotus, with an ancient's taste for false etymology, traced "the gods" (theoi, θεοί) to the verb "set" or "place" (thetes, θέντες). 2.52. The gods set things up. The gods put things in order. That's why they're the gods.

Here, text is unsettled. That's how we encounter it, at least. It comes from nowhere, from nothing. There's a name, but no history, no identity, no setting. I write about myself to fix that.

There's a message, 140 or 280 characters there, more here. There are two names attached there, a name and a title here. But we change names and titles often enough to confuse. There's a short biography there and here, perhaps a line or two, usually saying nothing at all.

There's a picture, an avatar image. It's what we read first. It comes before our names, our texts. It's slight. It's a few hundred pixels or so across on our header, fewer on our dash. It's how we know what kind of person someone is before we know their name.

It's not a photograph of our bodies or our faces. It can be representational or abstract, a character or a design. But it's not a thing with weight and place. It doesn't fix us anywhere, except to other signs and texts, to weightless weights and placeless places.

That's intentional, I think. We're a weightless, placeless kind of place. But it makes them hard to decode. Hard for me, at least.

I can identify the text, sometimes. I can identify the character, sometimes. But even then, I can't decode the signification. Not in a way I can articulate. Not in a way I can justify.

If an avatar tells us something about what kind of person someone is before we know their name, how does it tell us? How do we know what it tells us?

In written languages, we have parallel texts, by unitary authors, to give us a map between one sign in one language to another in another. And we have lexicons. We try to be comprehensive, mapping every sign to another sign, to descriptions we can read.

For image languages, we have texts that describe signs in written language. Ekphrases. We have writings that describe functional and formal elements in the image. They identify the parallel texts in written languages, the embedded or represented narrative or logic. They tell us how to write images and to read them.

But we don't have that for avatars. We don't have a parallel text, a lexicon, a description and explanation. We know they say something, but we're not quite sure what.

A lot of Tumblr is like that. It's why I try to put things in their place.
