Innocent
short drabble
featuring. ambessa x princess!reader
requested by anon
a/n. a short drabble in honor of the new league cinematic video. (not proofread)
Whispers followed you wherever you went, delicate and sweet like the trailing ribbons of your pastel gown. A princess from a distant land, they called you, with eyes like morning dew and a smile so radiant it could disarm even the most hardened souls. You walked beside Ambessa Medarda as you entered Piltoverâs council chamber, her imposing presence drawing wary glances and tightened jaws. But you, oh, you were such the opposite compared to her with your delicate hands grazing the edge of the table as you curtsied. The softness of your voice weaving through the room like silk.
They couldnât understand it. What was someone like you, someone that was the vision of elegance, doing at the side of a woman like Ambessa? A warlord who ruthless and cunning, with a reputation for crushing anything that stood in her way. You looked out of place at her side, like a butterfly perched on the shoulder of a lion. But appearances, as Ambessa had taught you, were the first weapon in your arsenal.
âYour Highness,â one of the councilmen greeted, his tone dripping with condescension as he rose from his chair. âIt is truly an honor to have such a distinguished guest among us.â His gaze lingered a moment too long on your soft hair and the glimmering jewels that adorned your wrists. You smiled, tilting your head ever so slightly.
âThank you, my lord,â you said, your voice so sweet it bordered on saccharine. âI must confess, I find Piltover to be⊠overwhelming. Such brilliance and innovation, but so complex. I hardly know where to begin.â You laughed softly, the sound drawing smiles from more than one member of the room. Ambessa remained silent beside you, her sharp gaze watching, as you worked your magic on the men.
âYou need not worry, Princess,â another councilman intersected, his voice laced with eagerness and a touch of pride. âWe are more than happy to guide you through anything you wish to understand. Perhaps⊠I could offer you a private tour of the academy?â His tone was almost gallant, but the hunger in his eyes was unmistakable.
Your cheeks flushed, as you clasped your hands together. âThat is so kind of you, my lord,â you said, casting your gaze downward shyly before glancing back up through your lashes. âI wouldnât want to impose, but Iâve always been so fascinated by Piltoverâs Hextech. Perhaps I could ask you a few questions later? I wouldnât want to take up too much of your time.â
Ambessa fought the smirk tugging at her lips, her arms crossed as she leaned back against the far wall. You were perfect. Every tilt of your head, every soft-spoken word was calculated to pull strings you werenât even sure the men knew they had.
The council meeting proceeded, but you hardly paid attention to the broader discussions. Instead, you focused on planting seeds into the minds of the men. Compliments so subtle they felt like afterthoughts, questions that seemed harmless but dug at the roots of Piltoverâs inner circle. By the time the meeting was over, you had gathered more than enough information to satisfy Ambessaâs expectations.
As the members filtered out, one lingered, his gaze fixed on you. âPrincess,â he began, a nervous chuckle escaping him. âI couldnât help but notice your⊠curiosity earlier. If you truly wish to learn more about Hextech, I could arrange a demonstration for you. Something private, of course, so you could see its full potential.â
Your lips curved into a soft smile, even as the words you spoke were sharp enough to cut. âYou are too kind, my lord,â you murmured, stepping closer until you were just within his space. âI would love that. Perhaps tomorrow evening?â
The man nodded eagerly, his face alight with excitement as he stumbled over his words. Ambessa cleared her throat, her presence suddenly oppressive as she stepped forward. âHer Highness will have a full schedule,â she said, her voice like the edge of a blade. âBut Iâm sure sheâll find time for your⊠demonstration.â
As the man hurried off, you turned to Ambessa, your expression dropping the moment he was out of sight. âAmateur,â you muttered under your breath, your sweet demeanor melting into something sharper. Ambessa chuckled, resting a hand on your shoulder.
âYouâve done well,â she said, her voice low and approving. âTheyâre all wrapped around your little finger.â
You looked up at her, a small smirk playing on your lips. âOf course they are,â you replied, your tone light but edged with pride.
Later, as you sat on the edge of the bed in Ambessaâs quarters, she watched you from her seat by the fire. You were still the picture of sweetness in your pink nightgown, your hair falling in over your shoulders, but she knew better. Beneath that façade was a mind as sharp as any blade she wielded.
âYou were perfect today,â she said finally, her voice breaking the silence. You turned to her, your smile genuine this time as you padded over to her chair.
âOnly because you taught me,â you said softly, kneeling at her feet. Ambessa reached out, her rough hand brushing against your cheek, her touch surprisingly tender.
âCouldnât be prouder,â she murmured, her voice softer than youâd ever heard it. You leaned into her touch, your eyes closing as a contented smile spread across your lips.
Innocence was your mask, manipulation your weapon, and loyalty to Ambessa the thread that bound it all together. You were exactly what she had shaped you to be. It was easy to manipulate others when they werenât expecting it from a person with such a sweet demeanor. Clearly you proved them wrong, well eventually.

This is related to this post which is so on point it hurts. I wasnât going to write this but yet another one of my mutuals had someone be super racist again directly to their asks so here we go.
I go super hard on the Veilguard positivity a lot not out of an urge to stan for BioWare but because parts of the fandom have gotten so unbelievably toxic Iâm not even sure why theyâre still playing the games. Legit if youâre actively in mourning about this franchise because of a, at worst, competent game you need to find something else to do. I have been told I donât know how many times I just donât like âcritiqueâ of Veilguard which is fecking hilarious and I should show you my dmâs. Youâre not actually showing âloveâ for the DA franchise when youâre overly negative and reductionist.
We absolutely should be able to critique Veilguard and I do attempt to do this from time to time. But to be honest we canât even discuss the actions of the antagonist in an honest way. It is actually laughable how far away from the source people have gone when analyzing this game and its characters. It might be my favorite game in the series but that in no way makes it perfect or flawless and Iâm aware. Not gonna share the critiques here cause yâall canât handle the base plot of the game without bullying other fans.
I keep seeing people complain about the lack of fan engagement and fanworks while directly being the reason artists and writers donât want to be anywhere near the space. Again if youâre not commenting or reblogging or otherwise supporting other creators in the fandom you are the problem Iâm talking about. If youâre being super vitriolic then yeah, no one wants to make stuff for you for free. Theyâre too afraid or exhausted and we are all culpable, myself included.
The media literacy problem, the bigotry, and the lack of engagement are all related issues and until the most vitriolic amongst us reckon with that nothing will get better. And yeah, if youâre going super hard against a game that stands this hard by its queer, disabled, and POC characters thatâs a huge red flag. Unpack it. Offline. Away from the marginalized members of your fandom.

Wolfgang Akire and the Blackmail Motive
I have so much to say about this blackmail motive, and I havenât seen anyone talk about how itâs both indirectly and directly responsible for what went on with Wolfgang. Spoilers under the cut.
Eva and the Direct Killing
Firstly, and most obviously, thereâs the direct way with how Wolfgang was affected by Eva. When Damon showed Eva the blackmail he had on Wolfgang, Eva says that it âconfirms her feeling that Wolfgang is suspiciousâ. Afterwards, the group explores the pharmacy, including Eva finding the hidden poster that led to her needing to kill someone. Had Damon not confirmed that suspicion, thereâs the slim chance Eva wouldnât have killed.
To go entirely theoretical, without the blackmail, Eva may have countered Damon when he suggested not trusting the others because of her lack of total suspicion around Wolfgang and his dominance over the group, allowing for her to avoid falling for the motive. Itâs also possible Eva would have killed someone besides Wolfgang, though admittedly not likely since she considered Wolfgang the ringleader, and isnât able to see the people who are kind to her regardless like Diana. Considering Evaâs main reason for murder was her victim complex of everyone hating her, she could have killed someone else, especially with how common it became to bully her for her talent near the end, which Wolfgang didnât necessarily do, but did âallowâ (at least, in Eveâs perspective, which was the only one she needed).
2. Wolfgang and Indirect Killing
Now, what I havenât seen anyone talk about, is how Wolfgang indirectly caused his own death! Wolfgang is the one who implemented the âone-on-oneâ conversation policy for blackmail discussions. He even starts to sweat when people start discussing just sharing the blackmail openly beforehand, and he says instead that people need to âgive the person a chance to explain themselvesâ. Given the suspicious contents of Wolfgangâs blackmail, and the fact Wolfgang himself is clearly very aware of it, he implemented this policy not for the safety and structure of others, but for himself. Is this technically, in a roundabout way, implementing a rule for the safety and structures of others, as Wolfgang was aware he had become a leader for most and didnât want to shake their faith in him? Yes, but itâs because of this selfish decision for privacy rather than open discussion that both Wolfgang and Diana were lured to the boiler room, and Wolfgang was killed. He was trying to preserve his image, and statistically he had a great chance of succeeding with how many people he had gathered to his side. It was unfortunate luck that it was Damon, who later shared with Eva, rather than one of the other 13 students who received his blackmail and likely would have actually brought and talked to him about it. Still, had the entire group had an open discussion and everyone explained themselves, what would have happened? Would Eva still have had a reason to find Wolfgang suspicious if he explained himself? Would it have furthered group trust or worsened it? Weâll never know, but it would have certainly been an interesting thing to see, especially since thatâs where it was going before Wolfgangâs interference. We definitely know what happened because of Wolfgangâs decision to discuss the blackmail one-on-one.
3. Bonus Thought: Wolfgang and the Knife
Additionally, a vague foreboding reminder, we have no idea what Wolfgangâs âcome to the boiler roomâ note said. It was ruined by the water, and Eva (its writer) never revealed its contents. The most likely instance is it was a âdiscussion of blackmailâ note, like was used to lure Diana. However, Wolfgang still brought a knife. Considering they were meeting in the dark boiler room all alone, and with what ended up happening, he wasnât wrong to, but was his original plan to bring a knife to a ânormalâ blackmail exchange? What for? What was Wolfgang planning to do with the knife if there was no murder plot occurring that morning? Was it a last resort of sorts, if his blackmailer didnât like his explanation? Was it really just for protection? Regardless, I think itâs fascinating that he clearly brought the knife due to a lack of trust, either for his own protection or his own safety, which goes (again) against everything he was preaching. Wolfgang, who constantly told everyone to trust each other, didnât trust anyone- to the point he brought a knife to a private meeting and refused to share his own blackmail, which got him killed. Beneath the Veil of Hypocrisy indeed.

arcane characters as college staff
Mel
History professorÂ
Refers to all students by (honorific) (surname)
Nothing but praise on ratemyproffesor
âI didnât like history until I took Professor Medardaâs classâÂ
Doesnât write scholarly articles, just giant ass books that she pumps out almost every year somehow
Quickly responds to emails. No response = its in the syllabusÂ
âIs there any make up work I can do to get my grade upââ Absolutely not
But if you go the writing center you can get extra credit
Every year her students ask for an extension on the final project and every year she gives a long and furious rant about how the project was visible online from Day 1 and they had all semester to work on it
She has a beautiful office that looks like a miniature library and she only sees students by appointment
Jayce
Physics professor
Is a prolific author but somehow canât figure out how to set up the course online
Prints cheesy physics memesÂ
Every zoom meeting begins with 1000 messages saying âprofessor Talis we canât hear you your mic isnât onâ every. time.
you can come see him in his office any time, doorâs always open
but his office is so messy you probably wonât be able to sit because he has a stack of papers on every chair
âEveryone got this question on the exam wrong so Iâm going to give everyone credit because that means i didnât teach it properlyâ
Always throws an end-of-year party at his placeÂ
Caitlyn
English Literature professorÂ
would win best dressed of the staff, always shows up in the slacks-and-blazer fit
âTo understand why the narrator wears red shoes, we need to take a look at the sociopolitical state of Edinburgh in 1864.â
if you reply to a discussion board post with just âI agreeâ youâre not getting credit and it isnât up for discussionÂ
Never reads contemporary fiction. The ânewestâ book sheâs read is The Great Gatsby
âWeâre not having a party but if you want to bring snacks and soda to the last day of class thatâs fineâ
Covers a lot of authors but it somehow always comes back to Emily Dickenson
Is that teacher that assigns 400-page books every week
Constantly publishing in lit journals (rumor has it she writes steamy open-door romance books under a pen-name but no one has confirmed this)
Ekko
Art professorÂ
You have to actively screw up to get a bad grade with him
He wrote thousands of letters to the board until they caved and gave the class a proper kiln
âWrite a three-page essay explaining why AI art is not art and insisting otherwise is spitting in the face of humankind. Double spaced. Due Friday 11:59â
Throws back coffee. Has a coffeemaker in the studio. Two of them.Â
âHey guys some of you are submitting assignments at 2 in the morning. It can wait until the next day. Please get some sleep.â
Heâs created awe-inspiring pieces but if you just wanna paint a frog wearing a hat heâll say âthatâs coolâ
Says he knows who banksy is but will never tell
He gets way too deep in the zone. Once reached for his coffee cup while painting, drank paint water instead. Didnât notice.
Jinx
Chemistry professorÂ
If you email her the response will be âkâ or ânoâ and nothing else
Waits until twenty minutes after the class begins to email everyone that class is canceledÂ
Never wears a coat, goggles, or gloves. But will call out students if they donât
takes 5 years to post grades
âLook Iâm not remembering any names. Too many. If Iâm talking to you Iâll just pointâ
Puts a meme on the projector every day. Mostly incomprehensible. Picture of a horse on an beach and it just says âZimbabweâ
lowest score on ratemyprofessor
someone creates a website called ratemystudent and administration has no proof that it was her because technically the students with bad scores being the same students that get bad grades in her class can be coincidentalÂ
Viktor
Biomedical engineering professorÂ
Only professor who still uses chalkboards
First day of class is first day of class. No reviewing the syllabus, turn to page 34 in your textbook.
Puts things in the syllabus to catch people who use ChatGPT. If youâre caught, youâre removed from his class. Immediately. You will not get to plead your case.
Most of his cited sources are himself
Literally begs students to thrift their textbooks online instead of buying them from the school. Provides free PDFs as often as he can.
He reads journals every day and will write personal letters to authors he disagrees with
If a student asks a particularly dumb question heâll step out of the room for ten minutes to compose himself and then resume teaching like nothing happened
Vi
Not a professor, works at the on-campus gym and leads clubs
Constantly curses without batting an eye. Students will leave class with their very uptight professor then come to the soccer club where vi walks in like âsorry Iâm late guys i had a motherfucker of a headache this morningâ
Please donât ask her about anything that isnât club or sport related. If you ask for directions or how to get in contact with student services sheâs got nothing
If she refs for a game and youâre on the opposing team youâd better watch yourself. She will rip you a new one if you break any rules. One time a player grabbed one of her memberâs mask during a game and he left crying after Vi was done with him
Students run into her at the local hangouts a lot but itâs never awkward. just reminds you not to party too hard before the game tomorrowÂ
Leads pretty much every club but dance. Wouldnât admit it but she has no sense of rhythm and refuses to even do it as a student
You can call her coach or captain or just Vi, whatever you want. But if you call her Violet sheâll stare you down until you correct yourself
Heimerdinger
Anthropology professorÂ
Spends the first day of class getting to know everyone. âWeâre going to go around and give our names and a fun fact about ourselves!â
Gives the âNaciremaâ assignment and canât wait to tell everyone the catch
His classroom is filled with artifacts. Donât ask about any of them because it will take up class time
If you canât make it to class he sends really nice responses saying he understands, then checks in when you come back
The only thing that puts him in a bad mood is the âwhy do anthropologists study dinosaurs if anthropology is about peopleâ question. Heâs old and tiredÂ
Keeps thinking about retiring, keeps changing his mind
Silco
Political science professor
His classroom is bare and blank. No life. Just fluorescent lights and chairs.
Brags about how few people pass his class
Very strict on attendance. Too many absences and youâre out.Â
If the assignment is due at 11:59 and you turn it in at 12:00, itâs late
âI am quite interested to hear why you believe you are deserving of a higher grade when youâve spent less than thirty minutes attending all of my classes combined. Please, continue.â
Will straight up roast other professors no problem. Encourages students to pass it along
He encourages debate but the only thing students debate about outside of class is whether heâs hot or creepy af
Final project is a choice between A) A ten-page essay on why there is no ethical consumption under capitalism, or B) a presentation on why the country is doomed
Vander
Education professorÂ
Makes his own series of Crash Course-esque videos
Comes to class in jeans at best. Sweats, sometimes.Â
He has one coffee mug that says #1 Dad and he refuses to use anything else
He puts fun questions on his exams, like riddles. If no one gets it, he actually gets sad
Whenever he erases the whiteboard he always misses a spot. Heâs that professor.
If he catches you plagiarizing, you get one pass before he reports it. But you have to come to his office so he can tell you how disappointed he is and how much potential you have
He gives a seminar about how worried he is for the future of education and the wellbeing of the next generation and everyone leaves feeling guilty. Everyone.
Make a pop culture reference in class and everything will grind to a halt so you can explain it to him. Visuals help.
Sevika
Librarian
If you play music in the library sheâll walk up to you and just go âare you jokingâ
Have a phone call on speaker and sheâs hanging it up for you
Thereâs signs telling you to be quiet every three feet
If you see her outside of school no you didnât
Sheâs in charge of leading classes on accessing academic databases and she fucking hates it
Somehow knows where every book is down to the shelf. Sheâll tell you what youâre looking for before you can finish your sentence
technically sheâs supposed to do a walkthrough before closing for the night but if you canât read the library hours on the signs itâs your fault if you get locked in

except that appledusks behavior isnt multi dimensional, its the absolute bare minimum to not be a total monster.
mapleshade crossed the river because she was desperate and panicking. and they would have made it across had it not been for the sudden wave- they were manging before that, so crossing was in the kits ability. what happened was a terrible accident, and one mapleshade clearly is horrified and grief stricken over. appledusks mourning begins and ends with âyou killed my kitsâ and having her thrown out. the next we see, hes happy with reedshine, whos pregnant.
feeling bad his kids died, not starting a fight with somebody whos clearly deranged and a capable fighter, and taking a hit for his pregnant wife are literally the most basic things he could do to not be an actual plot device. it doesnt make him deep.
as for nightcloud and crowfeather, bonefall and warriorsfireandwater have very good posts analyzing them better than i could ever put into words. needless to say, nightcloud is WAY overblown by the fandom- she does virtually nothing besides feel jealous and pull him away from leafpool, and thats after books and books of him mooning over leaf and emotionally and physically abusing his son to the point of his treatment being what drives breezepelt to the dark forest.
you are affording far more grace to these books than you should. at the end of the day, very very few characters in warriors are complex. before you ask, i would not call mapleshade and nightcloud complex either. the writers clearly want you to take a certain impression of them in mind, but fail to convey it- theyre badly written books all the way to the core!
you also should almost never take a characters sacrifice at face value in these books either. its funny that you mention tom, because he, too, is considered redeemed by the authors. because he died for his daughter, he deserves forgiveness, in kates own words! skystar also dies taking a bullet, and the characters talk about how this emphasizes how he was a good guy, actually, despite being probably the greatest monster of the series (seriously, go read bonefalls many posts analyzing the series. they are excellent). sandgorse is an absent husband and terrible father who dies heroically as well. and what of onestar, again a bad husband and father who- you guessed it!- dies protecting the clans. heroic deaths are used by the writers to redeem the shitty men of this series and make it so the audience feels like they cant criticize them, because look! they did a good thing!
what you really need to ask is why crowfeather is made complex by a woman he knew for 2 weeks being fridged. why is leafpool leaving him such a tragedy that makes him emotionally abusing her as punishment so suddenly compelling. why is nightcloud being âbitchyâ suddenly a defense for his blatant abuse of his son? why is appledusk doing the absolute bare minimum suddenly enough to make him complex? do you feel the same way about nightcloud, who lost two of her children and had her husband become emotiomally absent during this traumatizing time, had to protect her omly living son from his abuse? for mapleshade, who thought she could bring peace through her love and paid the ultimate price for her naivety?
this is ramble-y but i think you get the point. op was not truly discussing how appledusk was one-dimensional, op was aiming to make the point that appledusk was a shitty guy with very little going for him and people worshipped the ground he walked on. and op is right and actually should have gone farther, because op is criticizing a wider trend in this fandom, in which the narrative and fandom bend over backwards to give extreme grace to male characters while female characters get ripped apart for any form of wrong-doing, and if nothing bad enough is present, facts are fabricated to demonize them for.
i think its just something to ruminate on. i advise reading more into the topic. i already heavily suggested bonefall, whos good at analyzing not just the writing itself, but the writing and fandom trends.
anyway if people are allowed to make excuses for bramblestar and fucking appledusk, I should also get to say that nightcloud did nothing wrong
#stellatalks#appledusk#crowfeather#this is actually the calmest ive ever been discussing appledusk because it does bring up an imteresting topic#this is /not mad btw#im autistic so i have a hard time with tone so if i sound mad. im not dw#basically every character in this series is shallow. when i like a character its usually âit could be that deepâ

reading
as a user, i think the magic link system is very annoying, but i also get that they don't want to fuck around with holding and protecting user data. they have been very firm but polite about various bells and whistles people want added to their site that do not contribute to their main goal of reporting various news beats. i DO really appreciate how they put in the time to create a private RSS feed for subscribers with the full text of all the articles so you don't have to log in with the magic link every time, or rather i will really appreciate this once i have a job and can subscribe.
i need to set myself a project and i keep forgetting i moved all this vintage gay and lesbian erotica from massachusetts down to texas with me, so we're going to read one a week until i get bored or we (heaven forbid) run out of gay or lesbian erotica.
the second purpose, and look, i hate the word normalized, but texas politicians are constantly working themselves into a screaming froth about protecting children from gay sex and gay books. i think we can look at various gay sex books each week in a calm and reasonable manner and ask the normal questions i try to ask of every work discussed in the tuesdayposts. since moving, my instinct is to be more stealth and less visibly gay, which is not the way i would like to live. this is the absolute babiest of baby steps since the tuesdayposts (to date) have never put me in any physical danger.
the main questions i will be trying to answer each week are:
is there anything cool about the physical object?
what's the author's deal?
did i like it/did it deliver on its premise?
the sex?
i don't know. chime in if there's some fifth thing you want regularly answered?
this is a 1997 british-printed perfect-bound paperback by The Gay Men's Press (a short history by one of the founders here). i'm not sure if this copy had ever been read, because i managed to break the spine in a very ugly way while trying to gently break the book in. this is either from a goodwill just over the border in ct or from bookends in florence (which you should go visit if you're ever in western ma, one of the few brick and mortar lesbian bookstores in the country).
not for me but i appreciate what it is and what it's trying to do. i have very rarely read something so clearly written by an author for an audience of themselves.
Growing up at a coaching inn on the Great North Road in the early 1700s, young Davy Gadd is enthralled by tales of the greatest of highwaymen, Claude Duval. Seeking his fortune in London, he is entangled in the machinations of Under City Marshal Charles Hitchin and the infamous Jonathan Wild, in their battle to divide up the spoils of the criminal underworld. At last, equipped with horse, pistols and velvet mask, he sets out as a Gentleman of the Road. But not before he has been loved by a Jacobite lord, dressed up by Lucinda and Aunty Mary, and been married at Mother Clap's Molly House. And at the end of the road, will he Pass into Legend, or does his fate lead to Tyburn tree, where so many glamorous adventurers have been hanged?
i think i would have enjoyed this book more if i were a gay man, really into daniel defoe, stuart restoration/early georgian england or very specific bits of historic london nightlife history. there are three hundred and sixty eight of god's own pages and we certainly do meander. it is a little bit of a slog in the dissatisfied middle portion of our hero Davy's young adulthood, but you are rewarded for sticking with it by all the important threads getting neatly tied off. it wraps up nicely if bittersweetly. the ending deals with community and vulnerability in a way that makes sense for a book written by a gay man in 1997. i wish i could explain my thoughts on this better. i think it is a perfectly fine ending that suits the book but again, overall, the book is not for me.
there is period-typical homophobia and gay bashing, but very little of it actually affects Davy. he is generally in fear for his life bc of some crime he committed unrelated to being gay. i think this is a pretty sensible way to make sure your historically accurate novel remains fairly historically accurate without being a fucking downer to write and read. on a related dealbreaker for many people, there is a good deal of phonetic dialect in this book, although it is mostly relegated to dialogue and slangy or shortened forms of words in dialogue spoken by people more connected to the criminal underclass.
i wrote all that and then i had to employ some stringent search techniques to find out anything about the author, who was not a very public person, and his feelings about homophobia vs historical accuracy. about three quarters of the way through this 1997 article about gay fiction from The Independent (interview conducted by letter!) we discover he also considers this a fine line to walk, and perhaps the only paragraph on the internet about his background
"The greatest influences on my writing to begin with were the swashbuckling films which I saw as a child in the Fifties," he says. "Errol Flynn and Stewart Grainger were particular heroes. Also around that time, John Buchan, whose Richard Hannay says, 'I have always had a boy's weakness for a yarn.' Later I acquired an English degree, and was influenced by medieval and Elizabethan literature, Thomas Hardy, Dickens, various historical novelists, Mary Renault and Daphne du Maurier."
"but kay, what about the sex?" my dear readers are probably crying out right now. i don't think this is a great book to jerk off to, even if you are a gay man and not a bisexual woman with the briefest passing familiarity about various periods of english history. davy fucks, a lot, don't get me wrong-- the fucks are not generally instrumental in driving the plot forward or delivering cool facts about london so they're all quite short, usually less than a page.
i don't know if including an example of a sex scene is interesting or useful information to anyone else but it feels strange Not to include it in a reading project about gay and lesbian erotica? gentle reader, i would love to hear your thoughts

watching
at about 11:30 PM on new year's eve i like to start a new-to-me black and white classic film to take me into the new year. this year's was Filibus (1915, dir. Roncoroni, widely available in various niceties of restoration)
youtube
summary from wiki:
Filibus is a 1915 Italian silent adventure film directed by Mario Roncoroni and written by the future science fiction author Giovanni Bertinetti (it). It features Valeria Creti (fr) as the title character, a mysterious sky pirate who makes daring heists with her technologically advanced airship. When an esteemed detective sets out on her trail, she begins an elaborate game of cat and mouse with him, slipping between various male and female identities to romance the detective's sister and stage a midnight theft of a pair of valuable diamonds.
i found out about this film through the @hotvintagepoll scrungly poll, and i think Valeria Creti should have gone all the fuckin way. girl hobbyist detective/nobleman by day, gadget-loving gentleman thief by night. i support women's wrongs, and she causes so so many of them on purpose. there are some things that carbon date a film, like russian antagonists or gland problems, and this film is carbon dated by sleepwalking as a serious psychological event. she comes very close to taking a detective completely out of the policing game by drugging him and staging elaborate series of events to plant evidence that he did all her crimes while sleepwalking.
she LOVES being in boy mode and she's very good at it! it's never treated as a joke! she stages a rescue of the detective's sister in order to gain access to his house, but then the actual building of the relationship and courtship is completely on her own merits and charm!
this is a charming (if poorly paced for viewing all in one sitting) early gay serial film. if i saw this in the cinema in 1915 i would have been institutionalized for imitating filibus

genshin is not feeling as jazzy or fun lately. i think i have two issues. one is that Fontaine, the last major nation's main questline was a truly delightfully crafted (and fair! we had all the pieces just not all the context) murder mystery with a lot of lore. this nation, Natlan, is functionally a sports anime. not that one genre is better or more complex than the other, it's just. different. and recalibrating my expectations has been a little wonky.
the second kind of weird calibration thing is the rate of additions to the world map. genshin runs on a six-week update cycle, where every six weeks you get something major and new to progress the game story. usually there are nine patches, starting at X.0 and going up to X.8. you iterate up a full number with major patches introducing a new land, so with the introduction of Natlan we started the 5.X patch cycle and left Fontaine's 4.X cycle behind.
this is important bc there's usually there's new and fun and exciting stuff and puzzles to solve and new challenges only when they add to the map. in the 5.X patch cycle, there have only been two map expansions: one in 5.0 introducing the land, and one addition about doubling the map in 5.2. 5.3 dropped last week, where the main storyline of the nation typically wraps itself up in the last map update and then we get to fuck around in bonus areas or seasonal events. for example, in the last three nations, so from updates 2.0-4.2, there are typically three big map updates in a row that unlock the entire base map of whatever country we're in, no new map content for a patch, a new bonus area related to whatever area we're in, another break, and then a seasonal map, and then three more updates with no new maps but new events or new battle modes. for natlan, we're essentially "behind" unlocking a chunk of the map.
let's go to the maps: the last nation Fontaine's first introduction in 4.0 (these are all from IGN, they are not to scale with each other):
the second update in 4.1:
the third and final main map update in 4.2:
introduction of natlan in 5.0 on the right (these two screenshots i took are to scale with each other), no underwater regions or major underground areas in this one:
no map update in 5.1. second major map update in 5.2 on the left here, still no major underwater or underground regions. we are currently in 5.3 with no map update, with maybe the third and final map update in 5.4?
again, the problem with No New Map is that typically in genshin you go to new places to unlock more of the story. we're "behind" a map update, if you will. they've kind of shoehorned new story into existing map, and shoehorned new bosses into the existing map, which is very strange and makes the nation feel so much smaller and more limited than other nations.
it feels a lot like part of the map update we got in 4.2, ochkanatlan, an abandoned island city somewhat removed from the rest of the map, was supposed to be the bonus area map, but they didn't have enough ready? the 4.2 update also felt very medium sized- at this point in Fontaine we'd unlocked the Fortress and Institute, which really blow the dragon city right off the island with regards to complexity of exploration and length of quests. it's not really anywhere near the complexity or length of the first desert map expansion in Sumeru, which was honestly a really crazy thing to drop all at once. i will not be putting more nation map screenshots up here bc of the image limit but the desert in sumeru is ENORMOUS and it has an equally enormous underground labyrinth!
not my favorite nation so far! a little bit of it is recency bias bc Fontaine was SO good and is overall my favorite, but it feels off lately. i don't know if the really punishing every six weeks updates are finally catching up to the parent company, or if they're really deep in preproduction for the next land (it Feels like they're going to split the next land into two different X.0 update cycles. there's a lot of chatter in game from NPCs about how different and weird the next port is compared to the rest of the country. i could easily see them building that out to two major updates like natlan and then saving the bulk of the country for the next X.0 update in another year).

Book anon brought up is literally called Trans/Rad/Fem and it claims to be essays on "transfeminism" but the entire basis is how r@dical feminism helped build feminsim, including transfeminism - thus transfeminism couldn't exist without radf3minism, and tries to argue the two types of feminism are actually very similar and should support each other. Just a snippet of the summary: "This series of essays aims to reconstruct and reintroduce the r@dical feminist framework that its misbegotten inheritors seem determined to forget and in doing so boldly makes the claim that transfeminism, far from being antagonistic to r@dical feminism, is in fact its direct descendant. It shows how a comprehensive social theory of transsexual oppression flows almost naturally from r@dical feminist precepts and dares to declare that a materialist, r@dical transfeminism is the way forward to seize the foundations of patriarchy at the root." The author has a bunch of free writing on her site, and it's interesting because she seriously uses the term transemasculation and argues that trans men do face specific oppression for being trans men, but then she's got this incredibly bizarre essay on how trans men aren't allowed to relate to Stone Butch Blues even though she personally knows a lot who do. Her stuff also really only pays lipservice to but is notably absent of anyone outside the binary, which is interesting because she also considers herself 'third sexed'. And she parrots these ideas about "degendering" and "regendering" throughout all her essays that just don't seem to /quite/ line up with the broader social definitions of these terms. I don't know, it's like someone who infiltrates 'the enemy' to try and take them down from the inside and doesn't realize they're slowly being converted. Also, she's actually on tumblr (head's up). Here's her own explanation of her book: https://taliabhattwrites.tumblr.com/post/769862585675825152/im-sorry-if-youve-answered-this-or-if-it-should And for some comparison here's genderkoolaid's reaction to the book summary (with full summary included): https://genderkoolaid.tumblr.com/post/771666069645623296/question-have-you-heard-about-the-book
"but then she's got this incredibly bizarre essay on how trans men aren't allowed to relate to Stone Butch Blues,"
does. does she know that Leslie Feinberg was literally a polygender lesbian who identified partially as a trans man. does she know that Leslie lived as a trans man for many years before accepting being multigender. does she know. anything about what she's talking about. like yes, Jess in the book was written to challenge the idea of what a woman "should be". and rightfully so. that part of Leslie's identity needed to be discussed. Leslie's other genders do not overwrite the fact that ze was a transsexual woman. i want that to be clear!
but it doesn't change the fact that transmasculine people are still gonna relate to this experience whether or not they identify as women. also what about transmasculine women...? that right there is enough to tell me this person has no idea what the fuck they're talking about. Stone Butch Blues was quite literally written by someone who was partially a trans man. like you cannot erase the fact that Leslie literally called hirself "polygendered". that was the term ze used for hirself. Leslie was a trans man as well as a transsexual woman. get fucked, talia. you don't know what the fuck you're talking about. even if the character of Jess wasn't a trans man, it doesn't erase the fact that Leslie was. Jess is just a character based off of Leslie.
wow that's actual bullshit. thank you so much for letting me know about this, i had no clue. i don't read books unless i'm looking into a specific topic so i'll be sure to steer clear of that. this shit is sad. rad feminism has never and will never help anyone. rad feminism is about hating women. it's about seeing women as weaker and inferior to men. it's about thinking that women can never hurt anyone else because they can't hold power in society ever. rad feminism is about painting women as pathetic dainty little creatures who could never hurt a fly, that women are so stupid that they can't think for themselves and are always being taken advantage of no matter what, and it's also about how women can only look and act certain ways or else they're not women.
trans rad feminism hurts trans women. if you're a transradfem:
radfems fucking hate you and want you to die. snap out of it. this will not make them like you. this will not make them see you as a woman. they are happy you are spreading their propaganda, but they want you dead and see you as predatory men invading women's spaces. wake. the fuck. up. all you're doing is participating in trans/misogyny and the faster you realize it, the better off you'll be.

EPILOGUE â poly 141 x immortal gn!reader
<not proofread or anything, been sitting in my draft for the longest time! i hope someone'll enjoy>
The blood that painted your body itches, you noticed. It irked you, really, so the idea of spending one more hour on the same clothes you had on when you left for this mission was a torture by itself. As the helicopter shook one last time while landing, you immediately started making your way to the community bathroom, ignoring every greetings of other soldiers, previous mission partners and privates in the way. Muppets.Â
âI thought the military taught basic etiquette, soldier. Been looking forward to making it home?â A voice not so strange called after you, slowly turning around as if scared to scare it away, Kate Laswell enters your vision. âHappy?â
You make a false discontent face. âLast time I saw your face I had 7 less lives in my hand, happiness is not the right feelingâŠ. More like a bad omen?â
âIâm glad You're here and alive, then. You even taken a bath yet? There's subjects to be taken care of and I need you available as soon as possible, and, yes, I'm making the proposal againâ, you take notice of how she avoided the responsibility and somehow proved your âbad omenâ point, Kate's proposal didn't mean good things to come. âThis is not the place to talk about it, Spook, but it is the right time. We need y-â
You bark out a laugh. âFuck no, Laswellâ, patting her on the shoulder, you turn around and start walking. âCoronel is not agreeing, plus, I have no interest in your suicide inhibitions against the US. Give up!â
âSpook. The time is running out. You know why you'd be the most important thin-â
âThing?âÂ
Laswell makes a disapproving sound from getting interrupted again. Aware of the sudden seriousness of the moment, she grabs your arm to go further into the corridor away from the crowds and recruits.
âYou are not a 14 year old girl, Spook. You are a soldier, a soldier responding to one of the biggest special forces in the world, and you have the ability of doing what I could only wish to doâ, she stopped walking abruptly and stared down into your soul, this discussion is your least favorite one to have. âYou can fuck up. Has this not internalized into you yet? Dead boys are sent to their mamas everyday for a tiny mistake but you have the ability of throwing it all into the air and walking away unharmed, so why not use who you are for the better cause? We need youâ
Her words punctuated your gut, your frustrations boiled up deep in your stomach and revealed itself by the shaking in your hands; they've gotten worse recently, you've come to notice. There wasn't much to do about it except put them into fists and dig your nails deep into the palm of your hand until it made you grounded enough to find your voice, stuck in the back of your throat. This subject, this proposal and its implications had enough force to make you crumble easily, Laswell of course knew nothing about it â just that you were stubborn and kept refusing.Â
âI am here because you asked me to make you useful, because you wanted to help. I know you're a human, Spook, but you're in the military and not a playground. What you want is not what you're getting sometimes, not because you don't matter, but because you are a useful trick we could have up our sleeve. So I'm going to ask you again, are you going to fucking help or not?
Staying in silence, you bit your tongue to stop from getting an insubordination letter. Part of you, the human part you guessed, felt talked down still. Did you ask for this life? Who made you this way? Wanting to help didn't mean killing yourself on purpose on missions, didn't mean getting used by superiors like an unbreakable toy. You're here because you wanted to be a hero, but right now, you're afraid of having more blood on yourself than the villains.
The other part, the freak one as you called, knew that that's exactly what you were. A puppet. From the moment you joined the military, it was better to devoid yourself from feelings, needs, or any basic thought. You liked it, even. Getting pushed to the limits of morality, treated like a piece of a big chess match. A cold air passed through you both until you finally had swallowed enough ego to speak.
âLet me at least change clothes and then you can go through your little plan." That was the closest thing to a yes you could've gotten before puking bile, but it was enough for her.
âThank you, Spook. 1700 sharpâ nodding, you let out a sigh you weren't aware of holding.
âYou're a bad omen, Laswell. After today, I hope it'll be a long time until we meet again.â Even with the harsh words, a project of a smile showed in your face. Kate Laswell was probably the closest thing to a mom you'll ever have in your life. âI agree.â

Hello. I saw you offer help for newbies to the WH40K rigamarole with lore details. Anyway I'm writing a thing and I would like to know if there's like. Tried and true ways for Space Marines to be interrogated? Specifically, by the inquisition and the relatively squishy Inquisitors. I was thinking maybe something that would use their heightened senses against them like high frequencies and such. Anyway, I would truly appreciate your help. Best regards âšïž
HmmmmmmmmâŠ
Full disclosure, I havenât read too much about space marines being tortured, by the Inquisition or others. But I do know a fair amount about Astartes physiology and Imperial culture, so letâs start with that. Obvious content warning: discussion of torture, mutilation, people doing horrible horrible things to other people, and Imperial Fists.
Firstly, the obvious: Astartes are much more durable and have a much higher pain tolerance than a baseline human. Lash a human with a whip, and heâll scream in pain; lash a marine with a whip, and he wonât even blink. The whip might not even break skin, and if it does, the wound will clot and heal before your eyes. 40k regularly depicts Astartes taking serious injuries (broken bones, lost limbs, bad burns) without much thought beyond the inconvenience.
Nearby, Colnid was cauterising the ragged stump that had once been his leg with the hissing barrel of Duolorâs plasma pistol. âI heard that, sergeant,â he said through gritted teeth. âWhereâs Apothecary Drekos when you need him? Iâm making a real mess of this.â
From Blades of Damocles. The guy subsequently splints on a different leg (it makes sense in context) and keeps going with the rest of his squad. Thatâs pretty typical of an Astartes.
That said, we also know Astartes do have limits, thanks to uhhhhh rigorous testing by the Imperial Fists using the Pain Glove. What is the Pain Glove? Iâll let the Lexicanum take over here:
It is a "glove" of electrofibre mesh suspended in a vertical shaft, covering the entire body with the exception of the head. It fits the body like an intimate second skin. The glove stimulates nerves to inflict the most agonizing pain throughout the body, without causing physical harm. The device ensures the individual is kept conscious throughout the ordeal by suppressing reflexes which cause fainting.
The Pain Glove is used for meditation (lower settings, shorter exposure) and punishment/torture (higher settings, longer exposure). The phrase âstimulates nervesâ implies that the glove plugs into a marineâs ports and thereby accesses his nervous system.
Which brings us to an important point: you can literally interface with a space marineâs nervous system. Thatâs what the ports are for. Thatâs why they move so easily in their armor. Space marine armor literally plugs into its wearâs nervous system, so when the brain sends âmove move moveâ signals to the rest of the body, the signals go to the armor, too. Very cyberpunk.
But as the kinky bastards in the Imperial Fists have demonstrated, you can plug other things into those ports and send other signals to the body. Signals like pain. Lots of pain. Pain beyond comprehension. I kinda doubt inquisitors use the Pain Glove themselves, but Iâm sure they have other devices they can plug into the ports and blast the unlucky brother that fell into their hands.
It is also worth noting that torture goes beyond physical torment. Loyalist space marines give a hell of a lot of weight to their honor, their duty, and their chapter, far more than they do for their own well being. Theyâre heavily indoctrinated fanatics. How do you think theyâd would handle being told that they are heretics, that theyâve betrayed the Imperium, that their chapter has cast them out, that their name is mud and their honor worthless? NOT WELL! And how much worse would they get if they were convinced that this was true?
If youâve played the Space Marine games, youâve seen the long term effects of this kind of questioning (internal and external) on an Astartes. In SM1, Titus is pretty warm and outgoing by Astartes standards. In SM2, heâs the opposite. Heâs far more close-mouthed and defensive, and he initially insists on returning to the Deathwatch. The man is convinced that his chapter considers him scum, and is miserable. And this is a guy who has always believed in his own innocence. What do you think would happen if he came to believe he was heretical scum? I think he might lose his mind or kill himself.
This reaction isnât limited to Titus. Thereâs a point in the Uriel Ventris books where Ventris and his friend Pasanius are convicted of a severe Codex Breach and sent on a Death Oath. At the start of Dead Sky, Black Sun, theyâre both spiraling as a result. Pasanius has even begun to self-harm. Convince a space marine that heâs been abandoned by his chapter, that heâs betrayed his duty to the Emperor and the Imperium, and you take away everything that gives his life meaning.
Now, of course this is a task more easily said than done. Space marines are heavily indoctrinated to make them as mentally resistant as they are physically resistant. But an inquisitor, especially a full-blown Lord Inquisitor, is positioned to make those charges far more convincing.
The Inquisition are the secret police of the Imperium. They act in the name of the Emperor, so by the Throne youâd better jump when they say jump. Okay, okay, itâs more complicated than thatâthereâs a lot of different power centers in the Imperium, and a wise inquisitor (admittedly something in short supply) will not march into the office of a Chapter Master/Archmagos/High Lord/etc. and expect the occupant to start cringing and bowing. In fact, thereâs historically a lot of tension between Astartes and the Inquisition. But individual Astartes will carry a healthy amount of respect for the Inquisitionâs authority. Even if they donât believe an accusation of heresy is true, they know that the Inquisition can make it true.
Incidentally, this is why squishy inquisitors can torture big strong space marines. A space marine who tries to escape, much less get revenge, is a heretic. Period. Heâs resisting the authority of the Emperor. Thereâs no coming back from that. But if he stays and endures the trials the inquisitor puts him through, then maybe, just maybe, heâll prove his innocence.
But itâs a pretty small maybe.

Hihi! Im so sorry if this is pushing a boundary or something, but personally, I struggle with an eating disorder. I was wondering if you could write like a Curtis sister imagine where one of them finds out that reader is dealing with an ed and tells the other brothers? Just like a shit ton of angst + comfort. Again, Iâm so sorry if this is pushing some sort of boundary. I hope you have a lovely day đ«¶đ»
Your Brothers Found Out You Have an ED
Curtis Brothers x gn!sibling!reader
An: I wish everyone out there struggling with an ed the best of luck at recovery. Yall are beautiful and deserve the world. đ I hope this is kinda accurate. If it's not and it's weird then please let me know!
Word count: 750
W: discussion of ED, reader with ED, Darry is a bit insensitive at first
"I'm not really hungry, Darry." You stand in the kitchens entryway and mess with your sleeves as your older brother cooks dinner. "I ate earlier."
"Well, you need to stop doing that. You're always spoiling your dinner. When was the last time you ate with us, y/n?" He looks over at you.
Your cheeks flush and you avoid his eyes. It's been awhile since you've eaten dinner with them. You normally just drink a glass of water and talk about your day as they eat, trying to talk over the grumbling of your stomach. But you lie, "I ate that pasta you made a few nights ago." You had taken a bite of the Alfredo pasta, but you felt awfully guilty and regretted it.
Sodapop had been sitting in the dining room and had over heard your conversation with Darry. He'd noticed your lack of eating and was really worried about you. Maybe Darry couldn't see that something was wrong, but Soda could. He couldn't remember that last time he'd seen you eat a healthy amount of food. He's also noticed your abnormal weight loss and how fatigued you've been lately.
"I'll eat leftovers when I get hungry." You lie.
Darry sighs then goes back to cooking. "Okay, y/n."
"Sorry."
"Its fine, but you're eating with us tomorrow."
Damn it. You'd have to ask one of your friends if you could stay over or hang out at their house tomorrow evening to avoid that. But you say: "okay."
You turn around and walk out of the kitchen, heading towards your room. You try not to panic about potentially having to eat dinner tomorrow while you walk.
Soda watches you go towards your room. Hr waits until he hears the door close, then he gets up and heads into the kitchen.
"Hey Darry, we need to talk about y/n." Soda says.
Darry looks up from the pot he's stirring and gives Sodapop a questioning look. "What about 'em?"
Soda hesitates for a moment, then begins. "I don't think they're eating Darry. Like, at all. Or at least, not nearly enough."
Darry's saddened by this idea, and a long, sad, heartbreaking conversation follows. He doesn't want to believe Soda at first.
Ponyboy finally finished his homework and joined his brothers in the kitchen. His heart dropped when he heard what Soda thought.
"You really think... why would y/n do that?" He asks quietly.
Soda shrugs. "I donât know. So, what do we do now? Do we have an intervention kind of thing?"
"Y/n is eating dinner with us." Darry states, then calls your name.
"Darry, I donât know if rushing them into eating is the best idea." Soda counters.
You come out of your room and make your way to the kitchen where all three of your brothers are. "Yeah?"
"You're eating dinner with us." Darry crosses his arms. Soda looks at you sympatheticly and Ponyboy looks worried. They can't know, right?
"I ate earlier though." You say quietly, trying to mask your panic. Soda frowns.
"What'd you eat?" Darry asks.
You pause. "I.. I made eggs."
"Don't be a liar."
"I'm not-"
"Both of you stop." Soda interrupts, "Y/n, you're not eating, and we're worried about you. That's not good for you. I'm no genius, but I'm pretty sure eating a healthy amount of food is super important."
You stare at them, unsure of what to say. They know, so you can't deny it, but you don't want to admit it either.
Darry speaks, "This ends now, this not eating thing."
"It's not that easy." You mutter.
"It's a disorder, Darry." Pony chimes in. He glances at you then looks at the ground.
This sucks. You're feel helpless. You feel cornered. You can't get yourself out of this. Its embarrassing having them know, and its worring. Yeah, you need help, but sometimes you dont want it. You hug your arms around yourself as you look at the ground and tears blur your vision.
Darry sighs, walks over, and hugs you. "It's okay, y/n. You're not in trouble. We just want to help you." Soda joins in the hug, "Yeah, y/n." Then Ponyboy joins in too. You can't help but smile a little with your brothers hugging you. You know they love and care about you, and in this hug, you feel safe.
The group hug eventually breaks up. You sniffle and wipe your eyes. Soda looks at you tenderly. "How can we help you?"
an: argh! I hope this is sweet and lives up to your expectations. I didn't want to have the reader give specifics on how the brothers can help them in the fic, because everyone is different and needs different things.

I think doing shipping through and aroace lens makes things complicated but also interesting. I think one reason I don't enjoy straight ships as much is because it's very rare for people write/talk about them with a queerplatonic dynamic. straight romance is so "normalized" in society, it's hard to get any other dynamic out of those ships from other people in conversation or writing. it's mostly always romantic. (especially when "guys and girls can't be *just* friends" is extremely common and has ruined mamy of my own friendships) but I enjoy a handful of a straight ship with that dynamic. it's just way more rare to see talked about than gay ones from my observation. anyway point is, more queerplatonic type ships and stuff please! those aren't explored enough!
#its really hard for me to describe what queer platonic means to me and how i see it and how that applies to ships i enjoy or even irl#i guess one way to explain it is being life partners without the need for romantic/sexual stuff and they dont date other people#dedicated to each other for life and act like partners but arent romantic/sexual about it.#example are cynonari. they adopter collei togther and are dedicated to each other. but theyre very fun as queer platonic relationship#and for straight version theres himeko and welt. a strong pair. work well togther. our train parents. platonic but life partners#partners in this crazy space train adventure that take care of us gremlin kids#and then theres also the queer straight platonic dynamic that's fun as well. 2 queers who form a straight platonic ship#think kafblade. how i like to imagine it is a lesbian and agender-aroace-gay-in-previous-life come together as platonic life partners#playing with this stuff and going outside the normal gender/sexuality box is fun#lee text#lee rambles#ive seen hi3 fans get very loudly upset about hsr fans shipping himeko and welt. but i never see them discussed as queerplatonic!#it could make everyone happy haha. life partners but not the romance. theyre our train parents but they arent a married couple!#disclaimer: ship your own ships. this is only about my ships and how i feel#before identifying as nonbinary i was subjected to the whole âguys and girls cant be just friendsâ bulshit and lost friends over it#im not even allowed to be friends with people as an aroace if im seem as a binary gender!!!!! it makes me so angry#i think straight shipping as an aroace that enjoys queerplatonic dynamics is a very weird trigger for bad feelings from those experiencesđ
#but its not why i prefer thos dynamic. the why is just being aroace in general and wanting that kind of relationship if i had a partner#but having a side of straight obsessed people ruining our friendships over their straight obsession feels bad#by straight obsession i mean we cant be friends anymore because they decided they saw me as a binary gender opposite theirs đ#and accused me of liking them and said im the one that ruined the relationship#where was i going with this i think im just rambling and info dumping about my brain stuff too much đ

so fucking upset. i looked up what's considered concerning weight loss and got a statistic. i looked up the same question but specified teens and i got a bunch of articles about how to lose weight. what the fuck
#tw weight loss#? idk if that tags necessary but better safe than sorry#past this point there is discussion of ARFID and stuff#LMFAO also ive had a medium to mild case of ARFID my entire life and no one noticed past concern for my pickiness#i say medium to mild because ive gotten better recently#i even ate half a bowl of the noodles i dont like the other day. AND they had been touched by shrimp & cabbage juice & soft peanuts#i mean i did drown them in soy sauce first and got nauseous thinking about it the rest of the day. but progress#i mean. im the type of person to skip a meal or barely eat because i dont like the food available or its too loud where i am#my adhd impacts it too like sometimes ill forget to eat or wont be able to make anything that day#but like goddamn. a growing child should be gaining weight. 'we should keep an eye on that' every single time and then no action#you know maybe thats part of why my body hurts sometimes and feels weird and shaky other times#its hard to tell based on how bony i am or whatever because i also naturally am a string bean and im not. like. starving myself#i get the same comments about how i should eat more and how im so skinny when im healthy and when im not#or i used to. people are generally less intrusive now that im older#gosh i need to flex my metaphorical brain muscles more i put way too much thought into the wording of this

just saw interstellar in imax. love this movie so much. literally any critique of it that i see just shows that the person critiquing it didnt actually watch the fucking movie or havent seen it in ten years and think they remember it perfectly still
#âwhy didnt they just not grow crop monoculturesâ#are you fucking stupid the whole first act of the movie is about how theres a disease that infects all living plant life#and year by year it completely eradicates crop by crop until corn is all that they CAN grow#and even THEN corn is still set to go extinct within a few years too#âwhy do they have to leave the earth instead of saving itâ bc they HAVE NO FOOD#you can critique WHY the movie necessitates space travel over saving the earth. like why its written that way#but any critique of the setting that leads up to the space travel in te form of âwhy didnt they just do xâ is so stupid#especially when all those other options were already discussed in the film itself !!#anyway and dont even get me started on the đ€ erm actually nerd physicsbros who hate this movie because#OHHH THE TIDAL FORCES ON MILLERâS PLANET WOULDNT BE THAT EXTREME#THIS RUINS THE WHOLE MOVIE FOR ME#FUCK OFF!!! have you even HEARD of artistic liberty BY GODDDDDDD#would the tidal forces be that strong? NO. DOES IT MATTER WHEN IT MAKES AN ICONIC CINEMATIC SCENE? NO !!!!I#its science FICTION. FICTION !!!#brot posts#or âthe movie literally proves itself wrong because they fixed the earth in the end without needing a new planetâ#ARE YOU STUPID. THEYRE LIVING ON A GIANT SPACE STATION#THEY STILL HAD TO LEAVE THE EARTH TO SURVIVE.#or the physicsbro who hate on the wormhole paper analogy scene because oh thats such a cliche analogy#i'll admit i always kind of agreed. i thought it was a necessary evil because these are high physics concepts for most audiences#but upon rewatching it now? i realize it was not an analogy to explain wormholes. they literally admit in the scene that its a cliche#bro literally uses it instead as an analogy for DIMENSIONS. he says the common wormhole analogy presents wormholes as 2d holes#but we live in 3d hence a 3d hole is not a circle but a sphere#he literally does not use it as a tired cliche analogy for wormholes he uses it as an analogy for dimensionality !!!!#all you bitches who throw these critiques around havent even watched the scene you're critiquing !!!

i started school again recently after taking a really long break to figure my shit out.
and my first assignment literally has me emailing the teacher because it feels like she's asking us to divulge trauma on a discussion board post for our peers to consume.
and that feels weird. and i'm trying to give her the benefit of the doubt by emailing her to get more explanation about the assignment. but am excruciatingly terrified i'm gonna make an enemy out of her by mistake during my first week.
(also for context I'm taking an Intro to Literature course. No idea how that connects)
#the discussion post is called understanding humanity#and she gives us an npr snippet about codeswitching and asks us to discuss a time when we felt excluded or left out and why#like codeswitching itself is a trauma response#so i can't imagine why she'd think discussing why we felt excluded by our peers in the past wouldn't be us divulging trauma#its like thinking masking by autistic people isn't a detrimental trauma response like#and like I could talk about how I was bullied for being autistic and I had to learn how to mask when i was in elementary school but#no one fucking needs to know that about me like????#and i guess its a way to empathize with the black experience of code switching but like??

When I was in vet school I went to this one lecture that I will never forget. Various clubs would have different guest lecturers come in to talk about relevant topics and since I was in the Wildlife Disease Association club I naturally attended all the wildlife and conservation discussions. Well on this particular occasion, the speakers started off telling us they had been working on a project involving the conservation of lemurs in Madagascar. Lemurs exist only in Madagascar, and they are in real trouble; theyâre considered the most endangered group of mammals on Earth. This team of veterinarians was initially assembled to address threats to lemur health and work on conservation solutions to try and save as many lemur species from extinction as possible. As they explored the most present dangers to lemurs they found that although habitat loss was the primary problem for these vulnerable animals, predation by humans was a significant cause of losses as well. The vets realized it was crucial for the hunting of lemurs by native people to stop, but of course this is not so simple a problem.
The local Malagasy people are dealing with extreme poverty and food insecurity, with nearly half of children under five years old suffering from chronic malnutrition. The local people have always subsisted on hunting wildlife for food, and as Madagascarâs wildlife population declines, the people who rely on so-called bushmeat to survive are struggling more and more. People are literally starving.
Our conservation team thought about this a lot. They had initially intended to focus efforts on education but came to understand that this is not an issue arising from a lack of knowledge. For these people it is a question of survival. It doesnât matter how many times a foreigner tells you not to eat an animal youâve hunted your entire life, if your child is starving you are going to do everything in your power to keep your family alive.
So the vets changed course. Rather than focus efforts on simply teaching people about lemurs, they decided to try and use veterinary medicine to reduce the underlying issue of food insecurity. They supposed that if a reliable protein source could be introduced for the people who needed it, the dependence on meat from wildlife would greatly decrease. So they got to work establishing new flocks of chickens in the most at-risk communities, and also initiated an aggressive vaccination program for Newcastle disease (an infectious illness of poultry that is of particular concern in this area). They worked with over 600 households to ensure appropriate husbandry and vaccination for every flock, and soon found these communities were being transformed by the introduction of a steady protein source. Families with a healthy flock of chickens were far less likely to hunt wild animals like lemurs, and fewer kids went hungry. Thats what we call a win-win situation.
This chicken vaccine program became just one small part of an amazing conservation outreach initiative in Madagascar that puts local people at the center of everything they do. Helping these vulnerable communities of people helps similarly vulnerable wildlife, always. If we go into a country guns-blazing with that fire for conservation in our hearts and a plan to save native animals, we simply cannot ignore the humans who live around them. Doing so is counterintuitive to creating an effective plan because whether we recognize it or not, humans and animals are inextricably linked in many ways. A true conservation success story is one that doesnât leave needy humans in its wake, and that is why I think this particular story has stuck with me for so long.
