cressida's storyline was genuinely shameful tbhhh it's like they started rewriting it in the first half of the season then completely forgot about the changes they'd made to make it fit the book plot and it just ends up making everyone else look bad😐 every character in the second half got a "penelope did nothing wrong" lobotomy so we ended up with eloise completely ignoring cressida being sold off to an horrible man (when she made every effort to support her in the first half of the season) and for some reason resenting her for pretending to be lady whistledown? Then they somehow frame her ignoring colin's offensively bad pleas as it being her turning away from redemption when all she's trying to do is escape being trapped in the country with her likely abusive aunt... and it ends with her meeting her horrible fate and it still being framed as tragic only to immediately juxtapose it with the bridgerton family winning the idgaf war while gleefully seeing off francesca and her future dead husband. The bridgertons were the villains of the season frfr

no offense but i think when critiquing jay’s (and let’s be real all of the OG four ninja’s) behavior in the pilots and early seasons, a lot of people ignore that the cultural context and attitude about misogyny and especially misogyny in children’s media is VERY different today than it was in the late 2000s/early 2010s

Saw a post abt the Sonic movies that was like "plz filter negativity posts better" which is GOOD AND TRUE you should be doing that. Ok. But then they kept going to imply that the criticisms of the Sonic movies are all entirely Personal and Ignorable and not like. Its important to be able to recognize these things in media and admit that even media you personally enjoy can be deeply problematic, instead of hiding it away and pretending those HUGE FLAWS aren't issues actually....

I mean years ago I really hoped that we might get some coherent dalish lore in this game that actually treated them with some measure of respect, and I was trying to give the benefit of the doubt that maybe people were right and the weird handling of their culture and beliefs thus far was a setup that would pay off when the veil crumbles and shit goes down and we see more of both the dalish and tevinter, and then we'd get some cool deconstruction of both the dalish gods AND the maker/andraste.

but that was years ago and by roughly the third time they re-announced the game I was starting to suspect that development had passed out of the hands of anyone who would give a shit about lore and setting and story payoff long ago.

and based on what people are saying so far it looks like that's true.

Okay so I may be in the minority here…but I’m not a fan of characters dying and being definitively dead…then being resurrected. Death is a permanent and very final conclusion to a character and their arc, and having them brought back to life takes away from that impact.

ESPECIALLY when other dead characters don’t get resurrected.

I think the main problem of the rainwild chronicals stems from the fact tha5 the there isnt enough plot time for the story to properly delve into the psyche of the characters and let them develop, losing much of the appeal most rote books have. Those are annoying teenagers that don't go through all the trauma other rote characters do to change to not-annoying teenagers (like in liveships) the characters do , but neither doe sthe story take place over a long enough period of time for them to develop into adults (like fitz in the farseer trilogy)

When you get to the f&f trilogy you see how much they truely developed and found their place and became adults (encluding some changes that seem drastic, because it has been so long in world since they were who they were in their own series). Its just kind of dissapointing how so many characters we just didnt get to see the development of, because of the lack of time for it in the rain wild chronicles themselves.

like the end was really anticlimactic bummed, there wasn't anything big going on and we really didn't get much of a villain or anything bummed..... I don't really know how I'm going to work with this game when there's so little going on outside of administrative baloney and childhood trauma kjdhfjks

I really wish I could get over all this considering I actually never thought OFMD was amazing television, but currently obsessing over how messy the Jim and Oluwande arcs have been for no reason.

Just... why on earth did they give them a lovely friends-to-lovers arc in Season 1 along with Jim's revenge arc, have them torn apart by circumstance in the finale, and then in Season 2? Oh yeah they're just not together anymore. Yeah, they both have separate brand new love interests we have to get quickly invested in with very little screentime. No, no mention of Jim's family or Oluwande's possible leadership journey either.

And the thing is, I'm easy. I love Archie and Zheng and like both Archie/Jim and Oluwande/Zheng, especially Archie/Jim because there's slightly more time for us to see them interact and get attached. I just don't understand why Jim/Oluwande were broken up and there was never even an in-universe reason given. I could've accepted, for example, that Jim was struggling having thought that Oluwande was dead for months and being deeply traumatized by everything that happened on the break-up boat. Maybe it felt easier for them to be with someone who was also on Blackbeard's crew, or just someone "harder" than Oluwande. But the show didn't even bother. Instead, they broke up because I guess Jim likes Archie now, and I suppose it's too much for us to believe that Jim and Oluwande might be okay having an open relationship, or that Jim might be able to love two people at once.

I genuinely spent 3/4ths of the season delusionally convincing myself that they were in an open relationship and it was just entirely implied and off-screen (also weird and bad writing) but no. They're just exes now and they don't even have any feelings about being exes.
