actually, the mom (rachel) does survive but pretty soon after the crash, her mom breaks up with the dad and the two of them move to another city.
rachel does show up in the present storyline (the one that doesnt read like a bad dr seuss book) and she like, apologises to the guy? for "what she did to him" which youd hope would just be leaving him but its implied its also their baby dying which was not her fault but okay colleen.
she specifically appears to help the main guy (miles) get over his manpain and get together with tate who is meant to be the protagonist.
other highlights include:
miles thinking "it's the saddest door ive ever had to close" in regards to not fucking his stepsister and not his mom dying.
tate regularly unloading all of her relationships drama onto the bellhop for her apartment building instead of idk talking to her friends about it or a counsellor
miles also lives in the apartment building so the bellhop also knows miles, and also his relationship drama thanks to tate
the name rachel appearing 294 times in a 336 page book
tates brother being called corbin collins
miles gets tates number out of corbins phone. tates inner monologue tells us this as such: "nana nana boo boo he stole my number"
most of the conflict revolving around miles deciding he will never love again after rachel but he does want to fuck tate and makes that clear to her, and tate being like cool, lets do that while being in love with him and expecting him to come around after they fuck for a bit.
"somethings going on in my chest. a kind of flutter flutter thing. i dont like it."
the interrupting cow knock knock joke.
the thanksgiving homosexual misunderstanding where tates brother and mom are like oh hes gay but her dad being like no hes not. the misunderstanding is entirely reliant on man not have girlfriend = must be gay logic.
the prose being very the poison for cuzco/mojo jojo esque but like, bad.
tate thinking "its as if two different creators were involved when he was made" about miles.
theres a character in the book called dylan but his name is spelt dillon because colleen hoover is Like That. in it ends with us - the book that is very much about domestic abuse - the main character is a florist named lily blossom bloom.
miles' apartment is undecorated because manpain or whatever. hope youre excited for the subplot dedicated to the undecorated apartment.
tate specifically infers that women must not be in his apartment often because of it.
"brain equals liquid. heart equals butter."
the pain and trauma of his baby dying and step sister wife leaving him apparently making it so it doesnt hurt when miles has to get stitches.
miles' crotch is referred to as a secret bullseye.
the minnie mouse scrubs.
the big balls car wreck happening because they were taking their kid to be circumcised and miles tells his kid "im so sorry clayton, i know it's emasculating, but you'll thank me when you're older and getting involved with girls"
a blink and you miss it subplot relating as to whether miles' dad cheated on his mom. his dead mom. the one whose death is less sad than him not being able to fuck his stepsister.
tate asking miles to say "ox" to see if his voice would make the word sexy.
it makes the word sexy. the word "ox". tate thinks miles saying the word "ox" is sexy.
miles' full name is miles mikel archer
in the epilogue of the book, tate and miles are married with a child which they named after the bellhop. you know, the guy just doing his job that tate spent the whole book treating as an unpaid counsellor?
tates immediate reaction to learning miles hasnt done the fuck in six years being "oh, do you have stds?"
incidentally, tate is a nurse. it is almost entirely immaterial to the book.
just the fact that miles and rachel werent like together before their parents got together. im pretty sure they hadnt even properly met.
"he touches her gently like he knows shes made of lava"
also, in looking up names to make sure i spelt them right, i realised that this book also exists in the same universe as november 9th which is another colleen hoover book.
thats the one where the love interest essentially tricks the protagonist into falling in love with him after he set fire to her dads house with her inside which led to her receiving serious burns to half her body. oh and also the books end with her apologising to him for it :)

Oooh, I'm so here to spill the tea.
So the book It Ends With Us was written by Colleen Hoover. The only nice thing I can say about the book that it was the best trashy entertainment while I was having a bottle of wine and that the writing flows actually nicely. The main character is Lily Blossom Bloom who owns a flower shop (shocker) and meets this rich neurosurgeon, and they insta fall in love. (Their first sex scene starts with her saying no and him still putting his hands in her panties, btw, so yea, great book). Everything is picture perfect until the MC guy starts being abusive over the smallest of things (like her laughing at him accidentally burning himself with the stove), and we learn that Lily grew up in an abusive household and she witnessed her dead hurt her mom multiple times. During her childhood, Lily wrote letters to Ellen Degeneres (???) and every letter ended with "just keep swimming" because Ellen was the voice actress for Dory in Finding Nemo.
Lily also had a childhood best friend/first love named Atlas who magically ✨️ reappeared in her life after 10 years, which made the rich guy MC be at his abusive high peak and Lily was about to leave him for the fifth time when she found out that she's preggo (nearly threw the book away at this point). But credit where credit is due, Lily doesn't go back to her abusive baby daddy and decides to end this cycle of abuse - cue the title It Ends With Us.
And now they made a movie adaptation with Blake Lively as Lily, and they're trying to sell the movie like it's some flowery, romancy love story when it's supposed to be about this very deep message about domestic violence. They also tried to pull a Barbenheimer type of marketing with Deadpool (because Blake Lively's husband is Ryan Reynolds, the actor for deadpool) and the tour is all about flowers - and they failed miserably. There's also some drama with some actors getting paid ten times more than others, but that's not new for Hollywood.
I hope this was easy to follow~💕
Oh my god you had me at Lily blossom bloom... like... that sounds like a fairytale name help 😭
Oh so I see the sir is uh.... very big on consent 😐
ELLEN DEGENERES ARE YOU FOR REAL WHAT that is so random i need to how that scene happened.... what went on in the authors head???
Wow okay so what I'm getting is that the book is very questionable and uh... special? (No offense to the dark romance lovers - I am one of you but based on what I've been told just now this book sounds like a bad fever dream)
I fear all of this went past me ENTIRELY and I'm unsure if it's a blessing or if I missed out lol.
All I'm taking away from this is 1) Luma, do not read this book it will trigger you and 2) I will go on TikTok now for more info because this is some delicious drama to fall asleep to 😭
Going back to your initial ask - I can see Kento wanting to just sleep and you start talking about it... and it's just not ending. Next morning? You're yapping. iPad out with pictures, reciting the Ellen letters to him and he's trying HARD to let you go on but it stopped making sense to him at the first sex scene bc he's a consent king. Would have loved to break the guys hand right on the spot and - why is he getting worked up over this now???

Flower Symbolism in Tsurune
Tumblr media
The amount of plant representation in this franchise has considerably increased with the release of the DVDs and KyoAni’s latest spring campaign, so it seems more than appropriate to make this kind of post right now. This post has been bettered thanks to @bowcrazy. Most of the symbolisms refers to individual characters, so I’ve separated them by the official character line-up order.
I’m gonna start with the ones that represent everybody.
Yesterday-today-tomorrow: I’m guessing that this one is the flower that appears during the opening and ending. They seem to also be the ones appearing behind Minato in the DVD bonus artworks as well, so I’ll get to them below soon enough.
Iris: This one is mentioned twice in the novel, and in one of those mentions, they seem to refer to the Kazemai boys. It has many meanings, the most common ones being faith, hope, wisdom, courage, valor and admiration. In Japanese flower language, they’re associated with good news, glad tidings and loyalty. Gifting someone with irises normally means “your friendship signifies so much to me”, and they’re often used in Japan on Boys’ Day.
Now, the flowers below are the ones shown behind each of the characters in the artworks that come with the DVD/Blu-ray sets.
Sen & Man
Amaryllis: Stands for pride and self-confidence. Its message is “if you’ve got it, flaunt it”, and boy, are the twins arrogant. But here’s what’s truly interesting about this flower: it’s normally associated with one-sided feelings, lmao. The red ones, like most red flowers, are linked to passion and love, be it requited or not. I really wanna try to pretend that Senichi staring at Shuu in that artwork instead of ahead like his brother is doing has absolutely nothing to do with this, but damn, it’s hard. I won’t lie; this kind of depiction of the Kirisaki trio (literally every single thing about it) had been on my official art wishlist for a long time.
Shuu
Tulip: Its general significance is “perfect, enduring love”, but there’s also a variety of other meanings to it:
Undying passionate love, whether the passion is spurned or returned
Royalty and a regal nature
Forgotten or neglected love
Abundance, prosperity, and indulgence
Charity and supporting the less fortunate
There’s probably no better flower to describe Shuu’s character. The undying love surely refers to archery *cough* and Minato *cough*. He does have a regal, noble-like nature, and has been overflowing with talent from the very start. The neglected love might be a reference to his family, but it might also apply to Shuu hitting a wall at the end of volume 1. The part about charity and supporting the less fortunate is probably an allusion to Shuu growing softer and helping out the twins after Manji gets target panic. Moreover, the tulips behind Shuu in that artwork are white, which are used to claim worthiness.
Nanao
Osmanthus: The flowers that represent the Kazemai boys have very similar meanings and I’m pretty sure that’s on purpose. The osmanthus signifies happiness, good fortune and prosperity. This flower is known for being attention-grabbing due to its strong scent, and that may refer to Nanao’s popularity with girls. It’s also nicknamed “emperor’s flower” and “emperor’s jasmine” in some languages, which might be a reference to how Nanao is depicted as prince-like in the novel.
Kaito
Cornflower: This one also stands for good fortune and prosperity. However, it has a special focus on friendship as well, and considering that “friendship” is the keyword of Kaito’s character arc, it only makes sense. This flower comes in a variety of colors, but there are only blue and pink ones behind Kaito. The main people of Kaito’s character arc and development other than Kaito himself are Nanao and Seiya, so the colors surely represent the two of them respectively. The fact that the crushing majority of the flowers is blue is without doubt a purposeful detail.
Ryouhei
Peony: Yet another good fortune and prosperity flower. They also carry the meaning of bashfulness. The ones behind Ryouhei are red, which is considered a symbol of luck. The message of peonies is “striving to act honorably” and “sharing one’s love with others to improve their lives as well”.
Sunshine child exists to bless everyone. No news here.
Seiya
Daisy: This one has different meanings depending on its variations, but the generally accepted meanings are innocence, purity, new beginnings and true love. Giving daisies to someone also normally means that the sender might be keeping a secret.
Daisies are often used to represent motherhood as well. The ones behind Seiya are English daisies, which are often paired with primroses in order to symbolize motherly love.
Minato & Masaki
The symbolism resolving around these idiots comes in a set and it’s literally impossible to separate them since one either also applies to the other or is about one’s feelings regarding the other.
I’ll start with the flowers on the DVD/Blu-ray’s artworks.
Jersey lily: Lilies carry a variety of meanings, but red ones stand specifically for passion. Jersey lilies, on their own, normally represent:
Perseverance and resilience
Happy memories
Brilliance, radiance
The messages of jersey lilies are “you have a lovely smile” (Minato would tell you about it, lmao) and “I look forward to when we meet once again”. Now the last one was a punch to the gut.
Yesterday-today-tomorrow: This one is also known as kiss-me-quick, and the irony is ridiculous. It’s a flower normally associated with the stages and the passage of time, as the name denounces. In Japanese flower language, it carries the meaning of:
Good fortune, just as everyone else
Inconstant, fickle person
Passionate
That’s a very Minato-like flower, considering how much he wavers and how open he is to doing the unexpected. The passion part goes without saying.
Now on with the novel stuff.
Oak: The trees surrounding Yata Shrine. It stands for wisdom and strength.
Bamboo: Minato compares Masaki’s shots with bamboo sprouts at some point. They symbolise resilience and inspiration.
Cherry blossom: The story begins with the first day of school, which means spring, which means cherry blossoms everywhere. There also seem to be cherry flower petals raining all over the DVD/Blu-ray artworks, which makes me believe that this flower applies to all the main characters. Still, Kirisaki doesn’t show up until the cherry blossoms are already gone, and Minato meets Masaki for the second time when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, so I dare say the flower applies to both of them in a very particular way.
This flower is used to remind people that life is short yet beautiful, often represent gentleness and femininity, and symbolize the short-lived beauty of youth. They’re also an allurance to new beginnings and the start/renewal of a cycle, since they are a common symbol of the coming of spring. They’re usually an allegory for romance as well, but plot devices aside, I don’t think this one should be considered.
Azalea: Amongst other things, they mean “remembering your home with fondness or wishing to return to it”, “caring for yourself and your family”, “temperance and emotional evenness”, and “delicate/developing passion”. The part of remembering home with fondness and wanting to return to it definitely refers to archery, and I’m pretty sure that this is emphasized by the fact that the chapter of the novel in which azaleas are mentioned is titled “Home”. “Caring for yourself” surely refers to both Minato and Masaki, but “caring for your family” might refer to Masaki alone in this case, since he was shooting in order to send his grandfather’s soul to rest. Temperance and emotional evenness surely refers to Masaki alone, lmao. Delicate and developing passion, though, refers to the two of them without a doubt.
In Japanese flower language, the message of azaleas is “take care of yourself for me”. Now this is an extremely fascinating piece of information, because Minato and Masaki basically act like that with each other all the time, both conscious and subconsciously. Masaki is always giving Minato advice on how to improve not only his technique but also his life, and all Minato learns from him never fails to turn out useful for very personal matters, and normally serves as Minato’s trigger to solve each and every one of his problems. In contraposition, Minato never shies away from showing how important Masaki is to him, which always instigates optimistic changes on Masaki as a person and influences on big decisions in that have impact not only in his life but also on Minato’s (because literally everything one does affects the other at some point). In a way, one usually takes the initiative to care for himself after receiving positivity and affection from the other.
Spotted bellflower: Bellflowers are a symbol of gratitude and unwavering love. For some reason, the author specifies spotted bellflowers, which are known for their heart-shaped leaves.
Primrose: Minato seems to be holding a bouquet of primroses in the newest art for KyoAni’s spring campaign, and rather than representing him, they most likely represent his feelings. This one has the connotation of something special and of telling somebody you can’t live without them. Its main meanings are youth, love, new beginnings, rapture, new life, blindness, birth/rebirth and supertition, and if this shit doesn’t make y’all flashback at the speed of light to Minato and Masaki’s encounters at night in Yata Shrine, I don’t know what would.
But wait. It gets worse.
Primroses are a representation of the many stages of life, but they mostly stand for youth due to also representing the incapability to have a realistic image of the world when we are in love, as the initial moments of love have people in reverie and blind them a bit. Another meaning that it carries is the fact that there’s an end to each life on this planet. All of that seems to bring back not only the nights in Yata Shrine but also the truck accident and what happened afterwards.
These flowers also seem to apply to volume 2, since they symbolize our fallacies about love and other people, which both lead to disappointments and teach us important lessons. It also stands for protection and safety, and that might as well refer to the entirety of both volumes.
Victorians consider primroses as a symbol of bashfulness, inconsistency, young loves, and neglected merits. The message of primrose is “I cannot live without you”, and Minato literally can’t live without a certain somebody, so it seems legit enough.

Red Spider-Lillies (Lycoris radiata)
So check this out; Red Spider-Lillies (aka red magic lily/equinox flower/hurricane lily/resurrection lily/corpse flower) have cultural significance in the far east as symbols of loss and separation.
Tumblr media
They are native to central asia and bloom in summer/autumn with good rain, but only retain their bright red luster for a short time before fading to a more muted pink.  Although they can grow in a variety of locales, they are commonly associated with rivers and with cemeteries. Their bulbs are potently toxic and were commonly used to keep wild animals from digging up crops and corpses.
They are also associated and named Higan-bana:“OtherBank-Flower” after the Japanese holiday of Higan[彼岸], a celebration of the dead.  The name “other bank” refers to the mythological river Sanzu, which divides the worlds of the living from the dead.  Although Higan is a Buddhist holiday, it is also curiously a Japanese exclusive one, not having any real equivalent in Chinese or Indian practices.  The associations however do trace back to core Buddhist texts, where its red color links it to a mythical flower in the underworld.
Some folklore spefically says that the flowers bloom along the path where two people are destined to meet for the last time before never seeing one another again, often with implications of death. Others, that they trace the path to the underworld.  In China a myth tells of two spirits that embody the petals and leaves of the flower, but because the leaves and blossoms grow out of sync, the two spirits never see one another, but meet in death.  They promise to find one another after reincarnation, but tragically never do, meeting again only in the underworld in between reincarnations for eternity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All in all they are really neat and a very common icon of the season and of themes of death, separation, and rebirth. But the culture gap around them is almost startlingly wide. The Japanese understanding of the symbol is ubiquitous, but entirely obscure in the west, which makes otherwise loud and clear constructions of a scene read muted to an ignorant audience.
One of my personal favorite uses is in Makoto Shinkai's movie, The Children Who Chase Lost Voices From Deep Below. In it the spider lily appears with a black butterfly(another iconic psychopomp) along a mountain path as the main character races to meet her crush. As she passes it, she startles the butterfly into flying off, a poetic kind of illustration of the soul departing. The boy she is going to meet is of course not there, and she ventures into the underworld to see him again. But the use of highly familiar and highly legible symbolism creates a tone and mood to the scene that doesnt really work without that literacy.
Alternatively in Satoshi Kon's TV series, Paranoia Agent, that fluency is actually used as a setup for a subversion. A character is having a kind of surreal discussion with herself but also the embodiment of her escapist urges as she contemplates suicide. Outside her back door spider-lillies are in bloom. As the spectre grows literally bigger and stronger as she reviews all the reasons she would want to die, she turns the discussion around, finally ending with, "I've decided to have the operation." At which point the heads of the flowers drop off their stems.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But if we're being honest they are usually used mich less tactfully. Downright tacky in fact. Scenes of ghosts or death obsessed characters surrounded by spider lillies in a kinda of excessive, aesthetically decadent way are actually pretty common.  But when a scene already very loudly establishes death as a subject, the use of something like symbols loses all subtlety, and doesn’t really communicate anything effectively at all as it’s being talked over.
But I'll tell you where I didn't expect to see this used with tact and grace and nuance...
Pokémon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah. In Pokemon OmegaRuby & AlphaSapphire, Victory Road's final room is a field of red spider lillies before a bridge over a river that leads out of the cave and out to the Elite 4 building. More over, it is where you encounter your rival Wally for the last time in the core plot.  If youre not familiar, Wally's whole thing is that he suffers a nondescript illness.  He gets his first Pokémon from your father, and fights you once before promising to fight you again some day.  So when you do see him again it’s on the “other bank” of the river sanzu, in the underworld, surrounded by red spider-lilies.  He talks about you keeping your promise together, and he talks about giving you something to remember him by...
I bet you must be surprised to see me in a place like this! That promise that we made back then… Thank you for keeping your end of it.
…But I won't give up! I won't lose anymore. My Pokémon have given me the courage and strength to fight. I have to win for their sake!
I'll give you this to keep. I hope it will always remind you of your battle with me…
I'll stay here and continue training. And one day… Look out! I swear I'll catch up to you one day! When I do, promise we'll battle again! That's a promise I intend to live up to!
Knowing the pieces that make up this scene, this is a really loud and clear kind of artistic statement:  Wally is dying of his illness.  His rivalry with you, and training his pokemon, is what’s giving him a reason to live.  He’s trying to literally leave a symbolic underworld, and he’s going to stay there until he’s strong enough to leave.  You meet for the last time where the red spider-lilies grow.  He promises to see you on the other side,  but all his rematches are in the same place.  So. just like the myth of the spirits of the flower, you’ll never see Wally in the outside world ever again, only in the underworld.

the artist | chapter twenty-four
I kept the drawing to myself for about a week. Joey was the only one who knew about it, but I swore to him that I would never share it with either Lars or Chris or even my parents. He was the first person I had told about it after all; he vowed to be by my side, even if he couldn't actually physically be there by my side. He and I had a video chat every night for about a week, until Lars called me and invited me back to the speakeasy for something.
“Yeah, 'cept he won't tell me what it's all about, though,” Joey told me one evening: he had just climbed out of the shower so his black curls glistened in the blue light of the computer. It also looked as though he wasn't wearing a shirt, either, so his hair sprawled down his chest like the rich mane of a dark lion.
“You just want me to come back up there,” I teased him.
“Well—if it's not too inconvenient,” he said with a shrug of the shoulders. I chuckled at him.
“Yeah, you just wanna see me again.”
“Well—I gotta confess to ya, Hahlls: I miss havin' you up here.”
“It's only been a week, though,” I pointed out.
“A week can make the difference, though. The first time I was away from my parents for a week I started missin' 'em after a couple of days.”
He tucked an inky black curl behind his ear and showed me a lopsided little smile.
“So when's he coming down to get me?” I asked him.
“I think Dave an' Stone are comin' to get ya. I think. I gotta ask him first.”
“I'll be lookin' for them, then!” I was about to take out my earbuds when he stopped me.
“Oh, an' by the way—Hahlly?”
“Yeah?”
“Thank you.”
“For?”
“Everything. Being you, cuddlin' with me, bein' a friend to me—y'know. All the things that warrant a thank you.” He flashed me a wink and kept the lopsided smile intact even as we both signed off in unison.
I woke up the next day to a clear crisp morning and the aroma of fresh coffee. All my conversations with Joey had given me some peace of mind but I was still in need of something more. Some sort of relaxation method. I hoped that, whatever Lars had in store for me, I could take the chance and reconcile with myself in the meantime.
Indeed, it was Lars himself who picked me up at about a quarter to eleven and gave me a little thing of donuts in the meantime, even though I assured him I had already breakfast.
“So what'd you wanna do with me?” I asked him. “Especially since I thought Dave and Stone were coming to get me.”
“You shall see,” he assured me with a wink; even underneath his mask, I could make out the sight of his smile. Lars drove me all the way down the spine of Washington: at one point, I spotted Mount Hood off in the distance, a large cold stone point against a flat plane and with nothing more than pure white glaciers and wispy clouds surrounding it.
We crossed the cold bluish gray Columbia River and the stateline into Oregon and the north side of Portland. I peered out the window to behold the sight of the rich green rolling forests as they stretched out towards the coast. Lars took the exit leading into the northwest side of the city: I made out the sight of the river as it wound its way through the heart of downtown. We reached the first stoplight and I spotted a lush green garden at the end of the block.
“That's where I am taking you,” he informed me with a point of his finger from the rim of the steering wheel.
“That garden up there?”
“Yes.”
“What's in there?”
“You shall see.”
The light turned green and we rolled forward down the block. I wondered what was behind that fence as the morning sun dipped behind the wispy clouds as they wafted off of Mount Hood. Lars pulled up into the parking lot and swung a right so the passenger door faced the front gate. I recognized Dave's streaky blond hair as it cascaded out from underneath his ball cap. He grinned at us as we climbed out in unison.
“Hey, you two,” he greeted us.
“So what's going on here?” I asked him, and he gestured for me to follow him into the garden. I ambled up the sidewalk with my hands stuffed in my pockets.
“Where's Stone, by the way?” Lars joined in; I noticed he had taken off his mirrored sunglasses to speak to Dave with some courtesy.
“He's—over there somewhere.” Dave pointed to the stretch of chain link fence at the end of the parking lot: the links struggled to hold back bunches of oleander bushes and a couple of weeping willows. Lars nodded and put his sunglasses back on; meanwhile, I followed Dave into the gardens. It was a lush maze of thick dark green shrubs and rose bushes: I noticed some bits of neon embedded in the branches of all of the plants. Little glimmers of bright blue followed us all the way to a section of dark soil in the midst of everything.
Large white and pink lilies sprouted all around the spot: their bases glowed with bright yellow tendrils which seemed to pulsate, like they were experiencing a heartbeat. To the right stood a low heavy stone bench with a few gardening tools: a small handheld shovel, a handheld rake, and a broom made of what appeared to be sticks.
Dave gestured for me to kneel down on the ground with him. He had dug a small hole in the dark soil.
“In the heart of the pandemic,” he started, “I found more solace in this than anything. It especially helped me after Nirvana and I felt like I was in a fog. It helped me 'ground myself' so to speak. I needed some grounding before I went ahead and even considered doing music again.”
I knelt down before him. The soil was soft but not too plush from the previous watering.
“What's this?” I asked him, and he nodded to the bench. I peered underneath it to find a small ceramic flower pot containing some near black soil.
“That?” To which he nodded again. I reached for the pot and held it out before me.
“What's in here?”
“Sunflowers. Two of 'em. And they're special 'cause Stone and I named them 'Hollywood sunflowers' after you.”
I gasped at that.
“There's four in the main garden up the road—they're all blooming like crazy right now. And we called it the 'Hollywood sunflower' after you because you're such a bright and sunny character for us. Bright and sunny even in the midst of a returning pandemic. Bright and sunny even in the midst of cold, burgeoning darkness.”
I felt my face growing warm and a firm lump forming inside of my throat. He then lifted himself onto foot so as to reach for the handheld shovel on the bench. I set the pot down on the ground before me. I then noticed a couple of small black buds rising out of the top of the soil: the morning sun made them glow that faint neon color. Careful so as not to break the soil, he used the shovel to dig out the wad of soil and transplant it into the earth. I watched him with intent for a moment, and then he stopped.
“Go right ahead,” he beckoned me as he handed me the shovel. I swallowed and then I took it for myself. Using the edge of the shovel head, I spread the soil over the clump and then smoothed it out.
“Now, watch this.”
Dave stood to his feet again and ambled over to some of the lilies on the right. He picked up a watering can with a narrow spout and returned to the patch of soil with it in hand. He crouched down next to me, and tipped the can over the soil, and some bluish clear liquid flowed out. It might have just been dyed water, but when it hit the patch and darkened the soil even more, the neon glimmers flared up and the buds expanded. They took root in the earth and raised out into the open air at the same time.
They didn't flower, but they did grow about an inch off of the ground.
“That was just a little bit, too,” he told me as he set the watering can down on the ground in between us. “Thing with these ones is they grow quickly with this liquid. Stone came up with the formula and we were able to grow more of those sunflowers up in the main garden in a matter of days. They blossom and adapt quickly... kinda like you.”
“Wow,” I breathed.
“The neon inside of them holds onto the earth really well, too. We both noticed that so we were like 'yeah, let's come up with sump'n quickly because these things are growin' quickly.' This one right here is all yours, if you wish.”
“I do!” I turned to him and threw my arms around him, and he returned the favor. I guessed it wasn't all bad after all. I had to take a picture of it and share it with Chris and Joey, and my parents, too. They had to at least know that I had a flower named after me.

A Silver ETF Worth Committing Today!
Water features both inside and also outside Egyptian landscapes positioned an important duty in day-to-day routine of religious lifestyle. The best old of hairdos were actually an end result from the use of knives, combs and also hairpins. The Ancient Order from Druids was revitalized in 1781 in Greater london and that is exciting that Sir Winston Churchill was actually triggered right into the Albion Lodge in 1908. Synopsis
Lily hasn't always had it easy, but that's never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She's come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up - she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily's life suddenly seems almost too good to be true. Ryle is assertive, stubborn, and maybe even a little arrogant. He's also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily, but Ryle's complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan - her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened. With this bold and deeply personal novel, Colleen Hoover delivers a heart-wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. It Ends With Us is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price.
Review
Warning: This review contains spoilers and also trigger-warnings for domestic violence.
Okay, so I have very mixed feelings with regards to this book. At first, I'll be honest, I couldn't stand it. I loved finding out about Atlas, but that was it. For the first half of the novel, I crawled through it. I hated Ryle, I hated who Lily was when she was with Ryle - but I hated all of this more in the second half of the novel, and this was a good thing.
Imagine all the people you meet in your life. There are so many. They come in like waves, trickling in and out with the tide. Some waves are much bigger and make more of an impact than others. Sometimes the waves bring with them things from deep in the bottom of the sea and they leave those things tossed onto the shore. Imprints against the grains of sand that prove the waves had once been there, long after the tide recedes.
Writing about domestic abuse isn't easy. Hoover should be commended for writing this in a sensitve, hollistic way. The only thing I didn't like was how everything worked out so easily. Lily had money, she wasn't forced to go to work. But this would have been a whole different novel of its own.
I don't think this is a romance novel. This isn't about either of Lily's two love interests. This is about Lily Blossom Bloom (yes, that is her real name) breaking the cycle of abuse, and I've never been more proud of a fictional character.
Cycles exist because they are excruciating to break. It takes an astronomical amount of pain and courage to disrupt a familiar pattern. Sometimes it seems easier to just keep running in the same familiar circles, rather than facing the fear of jumping and possibly not landing on your feet.
It's easy to love someone, slightly less so after they've wronged you, but it's harder still to love yourself enough to leave someone who has hurt you. Lily got there eventually, and it was no easy feat, but she demonstrates the devastating effects of abuse, both from the experience as a bystander, and as a survivor.
Just because someone hurts you doesn't mean you can simply stop loving them. It's not a person's actions that hurt the most. It's the love. If there was no love attached to the action, the pain would be a little easier to bear.
I'm not sure that this is a book I would read again, but it's certainly one that everyone should read and take lessons from, which, as Hoover says, is the purpose of the book. It's not so much for entertainment, but a journey of personal growth in itself.
