It’s kind of hard make analysis with comic backstory seeing as how we don’t know what elements spiderverse will adapt/change for their conception of the character, but having read a couple issues so far only makes me more curious about what Miguel’s injection in the character intro is about.

I don’t think it’s Rapture or something designed to mitigate the effects of Rapture because of the spider dna visual and man. That would just be kicking the guy when he’s down. Not to mention he doesn’t show anything similar to battling it’s side effects.

Probably something to stabilise the genetic rewrite then???

hmmmm i like a lot of their music videos very much but i do think my like favorite of all time is probably thunderous... just. the everything. also chan with the like bandage wrap uh. yeah. another reason i really like that one is also because i love the trailer, i love when they give stuff a lot of story and i really like their stuff with stories and aesthetics the way thunderous, maniac, back door, god's menu etc do, like pretty much all their stuff does have stories and like connections to other music videos but i just like those kinds of stories a lot.

also i try to pretend like "ah i love them all (i do) it's so hard to pick :(" but my bias is definitely chan lmao close second is felix but chan is just my special guy... and i very much love all of them of course but i'd say changbin and han are tied for 3rd behind felix. but i also have an extra soft spot for seungmin after having seen them in concert because there was like 1 row between me and the barricade of the like extended stage and seungmin came over to my corner a lot and he was just so smiley and his smile is so fucking adorable it was just amazing to get to see it irl.... but yeah if u see/listen to the videos i took at the concert u can tell that chan is like extra special for me based on.. uuuhh my volume lmao – ❄️

At first blush, Miguel punching cannibal Vulture is not like. the most revolutionary moral stance. It may even feel self evident, obvious. BUT! examining the ways in which Vulture explicitly aligns himself with the hyper-capitalism of Nueva York, and thus the ways in which his cannibalism can be read as a commodification of the body offers an interesting dimension to that fight imo. You hit back at not only a cruel product of this system, but a man engaging in the most literal representation of what that system does.

so fucking wild how miguel also just. told miles about what happened with gabriella’s universe. he just tells the story with no excuses in front of everyone and even has a simulation to show the lowest point in his life. i would be throwing up and shaking from shame and guilt.

fr head in hands it makes me so mentally ill. The fact that he has a simulation at all implying that he’s sat multiple people down for this explanation?? He’s stood up there and detailed what he believes to be his life’s greatest fuck up over and over again?

God Miguel’s mental health is so down the drain even in the first issue of his comics. Dude gets spliced into half a spider when a colleague tries to kill him during a procedure to cure Miguel of a coerced drug addition, and he’s like I don’t even have the guts to kill myself for ending up like this 😒

honestly the singular bone I really have to pick w atsv writing wise is that I think casting suspicion on the go home machine (w the ominous tonal presentation) is kind of like. a bit of a convoluted way to try get your audience (through Hobie pointing this out to Miles) to start thinking about the harm Miguel stands to perpetuate by doggedly pursuing canon conformity. I think that’s already demonstrated well enough through how he pursues Miles, and just. The entire thing about allowing Jeff’s death to play out.

Because it starts to kind of. Flake apart when you think of it from what the characters are seeing. “Isn’t the Go Home Machine kind of ominous regardless of how it’s being used?” the tonal presentations says when it’s like. Not really???? If Miguel leaves the villains where they get slingshotted out, they will literally die, in addition to causing damage to civilians like with Vulture. What exactly is the alternative? What is it exactly the characters themselves are taking issue with? Rhino’s perceived pain that also isn’t replicated with Miles’s exp, implying he was just scared and wasn’t in pain at all?

I’m just confused as to why the CHARACTERS find it suspicious or something that pricks at their conscious. I, tumblr user fellhellion, can go oh yeah I think this is what they’re trying to do with this visual, given the general arc trajectory I read within the various members of the cast. But it just feels so odd to me to try to present the go home machine as an inherently unsettling marker when like. Miguel has committed far more morally grey actions than kicking villains back to their home dimension shdhdjfjf.

Ngl, I’m not entirely sure where the “Miguel and Hobie hate each other” reading comes from, when from their like. One interaction i don’t personally get the impression they think much about each other at all shdhdjfjf

Miguel seems kind of exasperated with Hobie sure, but the tone of that interaction is relatively lighthearted. It’s more of a joke that by virtue of Miguel being a stringent rule follower, Hobie not caring overly much about those rules exasperates him. And Hobie knows it annoys Miguel and thinks that’s funny, thus prodding him again with the “I’m not even here/nah still here” routine. But there doesn’t seem to be like, genuine personal anger on either side. Just an ideological divide that actualises even further when Miles’ very existence provides another answer to the overhanging stakes.

these spiderman 2099 comics look fun but also i cannot get over how much comics!miguel is Just Some Guy appearance-wise...normal height no distinguishing characteristics havin ass just some guy.....and somehow the spiderverse movie character design people were like "okay okay what if we took this painfully average-looking man and made him the most attractive animated character of all time and also SIX-FOOT-NINE? this makes sense okay trust me" like holy adaptation glow-up eh
