I'm so tired of nearly all fantasy or adventure video games having giant spiders. I have really bad arachnophobia, and literally had a full blown panic attack whilst trying really hard to fight those motherfuckers, but I was shaking and screaming and crying.
I made my brother do it for me cause I couldn't handle it anymore.
I've always heard that exposure helps get over the fear, but it honestly makes it worse for me šŸ˜šŸ˜

Games... #1
In the video game world, there are games that get the most attention to the public and some games sold 6 million, 10 million or 20 million copies to the public. But there are games that get less attention to the public eye.
Not Baldur's Gate 3, Elden Ring, The Witcher 3, etc.
I'm referring to Palworld and Helldivers 2 in this year.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Welp, both games are getting the hype today.
I like those two games. And I won't do a review them.
Okay, okay. This post was clickbait, but scroll down the page.
Tumblr media
I've seen people were playing Titanfall 2 to this day and how the game wasn't popular back then. I wouldn't mind if that game was popular, while the amount of shooter games was oversaturated back in 2016 and 2017. Many people had noticed and played Overwatch, COD Infinite Warfare, Rainbow Six Siege, PUBG, Destiny and Battlefield 1.
Despite Titanfall 2 sold not big numbers of copies back in 2016, I still love Titanfall 2, but it's not for everyone.
Do you know what underrated game I used to like in 2010, but don't want to play it anymore today?
Amnesia The Dark Descent
youtube
--
Here's another example. Back in 2005, gamers and me got to play Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, Resident Evil 4, Burnout Revenge, Need for Speed Most Wanted or God of War on PS2.
Tumblr media
But not Psychonauts, until gamers have noticed that underrated game years later.
Tumblr media
I'm sure that not every game was made for you. If you bought a game on Steam and you didn't like it for the first 1 hour, you could refund it.
It's easier said than done, but if you're on PC, you can pirate a single-player game and see if that's your vibe. You can't do that on consoles, unless you find a way to download softwares to play an older game.
Can you enjoy the game, even though it's not your vibe or thing?
I could say yes. I played Skyrim in early 2012 and I liked it. I'm biased towards science fiction, but I appreciate any game that's fantasy.
I had a nice affair with a male Argonian in my journey of the game.
Tumblr media
I don't know if Helldivers 2 would be the GOTY in 2024, I don't have big expectations of it.
Despite how good and fun Helldivers 2 is, though the campaign is non-existent
nor Palworldā€¦
Just enjoy either of those two games, while the servers are still running live.

AOT characters + their favorite gamesĀ šŸŽ®
just some takes that I think are chaotically adorable
no warnings
modern au
eren
this man is an absolute champ at guitar hero and beat saber. could probably do it without looking. plays cod with jean sometimes but he cant do it for long bc he loses his mind and talks massive shit in the lobby
mikasa
doesnā€™t seem like a gamer imo, she might have some phone games though
armin
first person shooters make him nervous so he prefers peaceful games, especially farming simulators. him and annie have a co-op farm on stardew valley and itā€™s beautiful. he also plays minecraft with bertholdt but itā€™s always on peaceful mode bc theyā€™re both cowards (I say this lovingly)
connie
this man busts a MOVE to just dance with jean and sasha. they memorized the rasputin dance in less than a day and everyone has to deal with all three of them losing their minds over just dance. I think connie would also be ridiculously good at mortal kombat
jean
all about first person shooters, mostly call of duty. he would also probably like open world rpgs like the witcher 3 and fallout 4
sasha
yall already know she would like hunting and cooking simulators, but sheā€™s ALSO super into open world rpgs and probably has well over 300+ hours on skyrim. her and connie also really love fnaf, they never grew out of it
historia
hates fps games unlike ymir so she plays roblox. will often ask ymir to play roblox with her and ymir will literally stop what sheā€™s doing to play.Ā  ā€œymir play roblox with meā€ ā€œbut Iā€™m playing cold war with jeanā€ ā€œplease I want to play pizza simulatorā€ ā€œ..alrightā€
ymir
plays call of duty with jean but will spontaneously leave matches to play roblox with historia. pretends to not be super into roblox but takes it very seriously and will bully children on it
hange
absolutely loves just the most obscure simulators. loses their mind laughing over bugs and glitches in games and will actively seek them out to exploit them for amusement. ALSO genuinely enjoys slime rancher unironically
levi
heā€™s literally bad at every game heā€™s ever played like. someone help him. heā€™s the kind of person to mine diamond with a gold pickaxe in minecraft then get confused why it disappeared. connie calls him a normie
erwin
probably thinks crosswords on his phone count as video games
reiner
when he was younger he probably liked rpgs but as he got older he probably stopped caring. now he just reads while bertholdt plays video games next to him and commentates about what heā€™s doing
bertholdt
tried to get reiner back into video games but didnā€™t really succeed. he accepts it at this point. bertl now just plays minecraft with armin and some of his other friends and is always the one to find diamonds first, build a house first, go to the nether first, etc. basically heā€™s really good at minecraft. also really enjoys puzzle games if he just wants to do something relaxing
annie
doesnā€™t play a lot of games by herself but she enjoys doing co-op farming simulators with armin and sometimes minecraft with him and bertholdt
porco
minecraft, destiny, sometimes call of duty, resident evil, etc. huge gamer, loves all kinds of games. though he mostly plays action rpgs, fps, horror survivals, he has a hidden soft spot for farming simulators and open-world adventure games so he genuinely enjoys things like stardew valley and forager as well alongside drastically different games like dark souls 3
pieck
never grew out of her pokemon phase and still plays it often. very efficient at shiny hunting. also enjoys animal crossing, little nightmares, a bunch of indie horror games, various farming simulators, etc
zeke
I canā€™t explain it but he probably still plays clash of clans on his phone

GET TO KNOW THE BLOGGER.
Tumblr media
Can be used for RP and non-RP blogs to get to know a bit about the person behind the screen!
1. FIRST NAME: Syn~
2. STRANGE FACT ABOUT YOURSELF: I pierced my own nose in a snowstorm using a sewing needle. (Do not do this at home, I was 16 going on stupid.)
3. TOP THREE PHYSICAL THINGS YOU FIND ATTRACTIVE ON A PERSON: Hair, hands, forearms
4. A FOOD YOU COULD EAT FOREVER AND NOT GET BORED OF: Sushi
5. A FOOD YOU HATE: Raw tomatoes and red peppers
6. GUILTY PLEASURE: Iā€™d honestly say RP because I donā€™t tell anyone about it outside of my RP circles.
7. WHAT DO YOU SLEEP IN: cotton shorts and a tee
8. SERIOUS RELATIONSHIPS OR FLINGS: Iā€™ve had good experiences with both, but currently seriously committed. (Stealing HMRā€™s answer)
9. IF YOU COULD GO BACK IN THE PAST AND CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT YOUR LIFE, WOULD YOU AND WHAT WOULD IT BE: I wouldā€™ve gotten more tattoos when I had the means to get them.
10. ARE YOU AN AFFECTIONATE PERSON: Not particularly, but I enjoy it from time to time. (Half-Stealing HMRs answer)
11. A MOVIE YOU COULD WATCH OVER AND OVER AGAIN: Willow
12. FAVORITE BOOK: "Lullabyā€ By Chuck Palahniuk
13. YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO KEEP ANY ANIMAL AS A PET, WHAT DO YOU CHOOSE: Raccoon
14. TOP FIVE FICTIONAL SHIPS [IF YOU ARE AN RP BLOG, YOU CAN USE YOUR OWN SHIPS AS WELL]: All my ships are my top ships, I donā€™t play favorites here. As for outside RP, Iā€™d say Seifer x Rinoa (FFVIII), Garrus x Commander Shepard (Mass Effect), Yuna x Tidus (FFX), Mickey x Ian (Shameless), and the friendship between Tyrion and Lord Varys (Game of Thrones), a bonus -- my new favorite is also Geralt x Yennifer (Witcher)
15. PIE OR CAKE: Depends on the season, mostly Cake
16. FAVORITE SCENT: Fresh lilacs
17. CELEBRITY CRUSH: I donā€™t... know if I really have one... :/
18. IF YOU COULD TRAVEL ANYWHERE, WHERE WOULD YOU GO: Everywhere.
19. INTROVERT OR EXTROVERT: Introvert with some slight extroverted tendencies (Consider this answer snatched)
20. DO YOU SCARE EASILY: I only get scared with psychological horror and auditorial horror. Silent Hill is probably the one game series that has genuinely terrified me.
21. IPHONE OR ANDROID: Android
22. DO YOU PLAY ANY VIDEO GAMES: Not as many as I used to. I stick to classics, I seldom branch out. I usually play Final Fantasy, Mass Effect, Skyrim, Dragon Age, Sims, Saints Row, Assassins Creed, etc.
23. DREAM JOB: Portrait Photographer~
24. WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH A MILLION DOLLARS: Fix my head, fix my body, travel.
25. FICTIONAL CHARACTER YOU HATE: Hannah Baker of 13 Reasons Why and intellectually dumb cartoon characters like Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin.
26. FANDOM THAT YOU WERE ONCE A PART OF BUT ARENā€™T ANY LONGER: I used to be big in the Silent Hill and Resident Evil fandoms, but not on Tumblr. I lurked on forums. I was in pretty deep with the Sims fandom -- was a CC creator and machinima director.

Julie I can't believe I've never asked you this question BUT since you were doing headcanons recently, what do you think would be the party's favorite modern day video games? Like games from the past 10 years or so. Also like what kind of gamers are they? Fave genre? Developer? Give me all the lore Julie, I'm really interested to hear your thoughts!!
Lucy, omg, I think this is probably my favorite question Iā€™ve EVER received. So buckle in, folks, this is gonna get LONG.
Mike: Loves story-driven games, doesnā€™t care so much about first person vs third person. I can see him loving the Bioshock series, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, The Witcher, etc. Narrative stuff. He also likes playing RPGs like Final Fantasy and stuff, partly because El likes to watch him play those because she gets invested in the stories.
El: Animal Crossing, The Sims, STARDEW VALLEY. You know homegirl loves these cute immersive sim games. She also plays Kingdom Hearts because she loves Disney and she SOMEHOW understands the story.
Max: If there was ever a person who loved horror games, itā€™s Max. SheĀ  cut her teeth on Silent Hill and now she just loves anything horror (Resident Evil, The Evil Within, Prey, SOMA, Alien Isolation, etc). And she especially loves Until Dawn for being the video game version of a slasher flick. Also, sheā€™s the queen of Metroidvania games (Hollow Knight, SoTN, Ori and the Blind Forest).
Lucas: strategy games, my friend. He starts with XCOM, but moves on quickly to Civ, Warhammer 40K, and Star Craft. He also likes COD and Battlefield - heā€™s probably the biggest fan of FPS games in general among the Party.
Dustin: CRPGs. Dustin LOVES Skyrim. Just loves it. Loves the freedom of exploration, the expansive quest lines, ALL OF IT. He eventually gets into playing Fallout and some of the bigger narrative games that Mike likes (Dragon Age in particular).
Will: Minecraft, baby. He loves building things in Minecraft. Also, Will really likes smaller indie games. He gushes over Kentucky Route Zero and What Remains of Edith Finch, loves the aesthetic of Transistor and the Banner Saga.
Also, donā€™t get me started on how they like to get together, get a few beers in each of them, and then try to play Overcooked. Like that shitā€™d be hilarious.

2005 - An underrated year in gaming
2005 easily is the most overlooked year in gaming in my opinion. Don't see many people praising it like they do for years like 1998, 1997, 2007 etc. But I thought the year 2005 for video games was great.
ā€‹
Good Movie tie in games?
So movie tie in games back in the day always had a tendency for being dogshit with only some good ones however 3 really good ones released in 2005, SW Episode III a fun dueling game, Batman Begins & King Kong released in 2005 and were some of the better movie tie in games of the time in fact SWEP3 the game is probably the best lightsaber dueling game of all time. Playing these while the films were coming out added to the excitement of the time. 2005 holds the record for best year of movie tie in games for me.
ā€‹
Tackling Genres
2005 was a year which tackled many genre-a-game, in RTS games Age of Empires III & Civilization IV it's the greatest year in all of racing games with Mario Kart DS, Gran Turismo 4, Forza Motorsport, Project Gotham Racing 3, Burnout Revenge, need for speed most wanted among others. Psychonauts my favorite platformer of all time, The Movies a good business sim game, Shadow of the Colossus & God of War both defining games of the adventure genre, the Guitar Hero series go started in 05, Tekken 5, Fight Night Round 2 and WWE SVR '06 3 great fighting games, the horror genre had 2 of best horror game of all time Resident Evil 4 & Condemned Criminal Origins plus F.E.A.R and the shooters to come out in 2005 will get it's own category.
ā€‹
The PlayStation Portable
While it came out in 2004 in Japan, everywhere else saw the PSP release in 2005, while the games at first weren't that special the PSP would evolve into my favorite handheld of all time and it all started in 2005, plus there was still SVR '06, Socom Fireteam Bravo, Ridge Racer & GTA Liberty City Stories at first which is still pretty solid.
ā€‹
E3 2005
E3 2005 is the greatest one ever, the PS3, Xbox 360 & the Wii were all first revealed here (ok the 360 was shown off days prior but still), Alan Wake, The Witcher, Oblivion, Spore & Oblivion as well as Battlefield 2, Prey, F.E.A.R, CIV IV & AOE III among more were all at E3 and E3 '05 holds the record attendance in E3 history. Plus I was there.
ā€‹
Shooters
2005 had some phenomenal shooters, SW Republic Commando/SWBFII, Brothers in Arms Road to Hill 30/Earned in Blood, TimeSplitters Future Perfect, F.E.A.R, Call of Duty 2 and Battlefield 2, and it wasn't one of those years where shooters became unbearable. Battlefield 2 is a great game even now, it blends tactics, fun and over the top action really well and is imo the greatest military fps ever made.
ā€‹
The Xbox 360 & the dawn of the 7th gen
Don't get me wrong the red ring of death was a very big problem but the Xbox 360 is still one of my favorite consoles ever, and I'm not gonna pretend it was perfect right out of the gate but the simple fact it got started in 2005 is good enough plus I remember being so hyped for the console and sometimes the hype makes the year. It did have Condemned Criminal Origins, Call of Duty 2, King Kong & NFS Most Wanted right out of the gate. The 7th gen started in 2005 and that doesn't even need an explanation.
2005 wasn't the single best year ever in gaming but it's top 5 definitely. Here's my top 5 list with my favorite game from that year.
1998 - Metal Gear Solid
2001 - Halo Combat Evolved
1997 - Star Fox 64
2005 - Condemned Criminal Origins
2011 - Skyrim
So how 2005 isn't held in higher regard baffles me.

Miuā€™s Games of the Decade
Hello all! Wishing you a Happy New Year wherever you are in the world! Itā€™s already January 1st where I am, but Iā€™m sure people are still counting down in other parts of the world. But anywho! I wanted to end the year with a celebration of some of my favorite games released this decade. The 2010ā€™s have been an incredible year for video games, I think. With strides made in graphics, scale, and storytelling, I think this has been easily one of the most innovative eras on all fronts. I hope you enjoy this list of a few of my favorites, and hopefully some of your favorites are here as well! If not, make a list of your own and share it with me! Iā€™d love to see some of your opinions.
But without further ado, on to the countdownā€¦
2010 ā€“ FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS
This game, for me, set the standard for what every RPG game should be. From its worldbuilding, to character interactions and on-the-nose commentary, to the way it expands the Fallout universe both mechanically and through storytelling. Of all the Fallout games, this is the one that left the biggest impact on me, and itā€™s the one I still reflect on to this day.
Honorable Mentions ā€“ Bayonetta, Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect 2, Bioshock 2
2011 ā€“ DRAGON AGE II
So I looooove Dragon Age. Itā€™s, in my opinion, one of the best RPG franchises ever made, and this game in particular is easily my favorite in the series. The writing is at its best, and every character is so loveable that I found myself playing it multiple times just so I could romance everybody. Despite some structural issues in the overall story, I still consider it to be one of the most memorable in the franchise, and I donā€™t regret a single hour put into this campaign.
Honorable Mentions ā€“ Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Dark Souls, Portal 2, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
2012 ā€“ DISHONORED
As RPG-heavy as this list is, I do wanna give some love to immersive sims. Another favorite genre of mine, and Dishonored is by and large one of the best. I found myself entangled in a number of sticky situations that I had to sleuth and stealth my way out of one too many times. Yet they somehow managed to make that the best part of the game. Player freedom and creativity are practically the foundation of this game, and itā€™s something that made this game not only an enjoyable and unique experience the first time around, but its replay value is through the roof. I do think that later installments in the series, as well as other immersive sim games like Prey, definitely improved upon this one in a lot of areas. But regardless, I still really enjoyed Dishonored, and Iā€™m holding out hope for the future of the series.
Honorable Mentions ā€“ Sleeping Dogs, Mass Effect 3, Borderlands 2, The Walking Dead
2013 ā€“ THE LAST OF US
Iā€™m sure youā€™re all surprised, but yes. The Last of Us is my GOTY for 2013, and possibly my favorite game of all time. Before playing this, Iā€™ve never had a game put me in such a state of emotional duress for an extended period of time. Not even MGS3ā€™s ending did what this game did to me. And even as Iā€™m typing this, I realize that the technical aspects of this gameā€”the graphics, mechanics, level design, etc.ā€”arenā€™t what makes it stand out in my opinion. My favorite part of this game has to be the journey. The connection between Ellie and Joel (two characters so brilliantly portrayed by Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker). My love for these characters and my desire to see them succeed despite all of the hardships and challenging decisions they were faced with. Thatā€™s why I love this game. It is, for me, the most incredible storytelling experience Iā€™ve ever had.
Honorable Mentions ā€“ Grand Theft Auto V, Tomb Raider, The Wolf Among Us, Injustice: Gods Among Us
2014 ā€“ BAYONETTA 2
The Queen has made it onto this list, and I have nothing but praise for the greatest hack nā€™ slash game ever made. Character design? Stellar. Combat system? Robust, intricate, and absolutely flaw-fucking-free. Improves upon its predecessor in every way imaginable and still remains as stylish and fun as ever? 100%.
If you havenā€™t played this game yet, please stop reading this and go play this game. It isā€¦ phenomenal.
Honorable Mentions ā€“ Dragon Age: Inquisition, Dark Souls II, Alien: Isolation, Tales from the Borderlands
2015 ā€“ THE WITCHER 3: WILD HUNT
What can I say about this game that hasnā€™t already been said, like, 9 million timesā€¦?
Itā€™s legendary. Simply put. A flawless and unforgettable RPG experience that simply cannot be replicated. Also, I would die for Yennefer. And Ciri of Cintra is the love of my life.
Honorable Mentions ā€“ Bloodborne, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Life is Strange, Mortal Kombat X
2016 ā€“ HYPER LIGHT DRIFTER
The only indie game on this list, but its spot is well deserved. What has always set video games apart from other storytelling mediums is interactivity. Despite this, I feel like most games still rely on heavy dialogue and cinematic cutscenes in order to spin its narrative. Which is why Iā€™m so appreciative of games like this, where art and exploration are key to understanding the world and the happenings around you. Hyper Light Drifter is a gorgeous game, with challenging combat and beautiful, stylish music and design that will have you feeling both nostalgic and mesmerized. Even in its quieter moments the game remains so rich and thoughtful, and even now itā€™s hard to decipher my feelings afterwards. A mixture of melancholy, delight, and solace. Itā€™s a journey I thoroughly enjoyed taking.
Honorable Mentions ā€“ DOOM, Uncharted 4: A Thiefā€™s End, Titanfall 2, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
2017 ā€“ HORIZON: ZERO DAWN
This year was a solid year for games, which made this decision insanely difficultā€¦ but after a lot of deliberating, I decided to go with my gut. Aloy stole my heart the moment she came on the screen. Sheā€™s an incredible leading lady whoā€™s strong, determined, complicated, and layered in ways that both intrigued me and that I could relate to. But beyond just my crush on the gameā€™s protagonist, the scope of this game is justā€¦ fantastic. The way they mixed post-apocalyptic tribalism with futuristic technology, the physics of every monster you encounter being so dynamic that every battle feels viscerally intense, even just the combat mechanics and how much effort was put into designing Aloyā€™s bow and her diversity of combat options, Iā€™m just so!!!! In LOVE with this game!!!!!!!
Honorable Mentions ā€“Tekken 7, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Butterfly Soup
2018 ā€“ GOD OF WAR
Yet another game that Iā€™ve showered in so much praise that I donā€™t think thereā€™s anything left for me to say about it anymore. This game is flawless for a number of reasons. Its meticulously crafted combat system, amazing graphics, beautiful character and game design, gorgeous score, and seamless transitions from action to story that make it feel like a film taken in one single camera shot are all key selling points. But what sold me on this game, and makes it my top pick for this year, was its compelling narrative. The story is one thatā€™s very personal to me. I felt for them and their loss at the very start of the game. I resonated with Atreus and his struggles to connect with his father. And I understood Kratosā€™ inner battle with coming to terms with who he is and the things heā€™s done, and trying to be the father his son deserves. I related to these things, as they resembled all to closely the relationship I had with my own mom. God of War moved me in more ways than one, and Iā€™m very thankful that this game exists. I felt like it was my own story being told on that screen as well.
Alsoā€¦ the boss fights are just so fucking fun.
Honorable Mentions ā€“ Spider-Man (PS4), Red Dead Redemption 2, Gris, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
2019 ā€“ RESIDENT EVIL 2: REMAKE
This may be a more controversial pick considering the amount of quality games that came out this year, and I know most of my viewers were probably expecting Control or The Outer Worlds to be here considering how much I hyped those games up. But in my defense, Resident Evil 2 was already one of my all-time favorite games, and this remake nothing short of a masterpiece. To me, itā€™s what every horror game should be. The atmosphere is dark yet engrossing. Every aspect of design, from sounds to levels to enemies, make this one of the scariest horror games Iā€™ve ever played, all without relying on jumpscares, or grotesque imagery (although thereā€™s plenty of that as well, itā€™s not what makes the experience so horrifying imo). Itā€™s one of the most beautifully crafted survival horrors, while manages to improve upon the original while still remaining faithful to it. I consider it a masterclass in how to approach any remake. Capcom truly earned back my trust with this one.
Honorable Mentions ā€“ Control, Katana ZERO, The Outer Worlds, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
And so concludes the list! I hope you enjoyed reading, despite how lengthy it got. I wanted to get out as much praise as I could because every game listed here deserves it. Iā€™m in love with every single one, including so many more that werenā€™t mentioned. It was truly an amazing decade for gamers and game developers alike, and Iā€™m nothing but optimistic for the future.
See you all next year.

I have been watching gaming youtubers for so long and suddenly this just came up to me, what if the chocobros were gamers like:Ā
Noctis and Prompto will play maybe the same kind of games like RPGS and Indies like skyrim, NieR, dark souls, the witcher but Noct will be willing to play horrors like FNAF, Ā Amnesia, Outlast (and ended up traumatizing himself), Dead space, Residents evil, Little Nightmares and scream at the screen when jumpscares appear, lots lots of cursing too while Prompto will be playing sci-fi like Prey, Alien Isolation, X-com
Ignis well I imagine he will more on puzzles, strategy, tactical, stealth like Hitman, Assassinā€™s Creed, Tomb Raider, Uncharted, Insurgency, etc etc
Gladio well giving how he likes survival that much I guess heā€™ll play survival games like Rust, Forest, PUBG, Subnautica
But sometimes they go all co-op mode together like maybe playing GTA, maybe a bit of PFS like CS, COD, oh and that new mp game golf with your friends (Noct being a lil shit messing on the settings ended up everyone including himself getting rage likeĀ ā€œSTOP BOUNCING WILL YOUā€), maybe Prop hunt
and i donā€™t know... Iā€™m just rambling again sorry.............

The Double
Great to see Horizon Zero Dawn getting great reviews almost across the board, although I see some of my concerns about it being all graphics and no gameplay have some basis in reality. Itā€™s going to be very interesting to see how this compares to the new Zelda as both games seem to have a lot in common. But there are of course the tables will be turned and itā€™s decent graphics and (hopefully) amazing gameplay.
It really is a shame that we never get both at the same time though. Nintendo games always have great art design but theyā€™re never working on top notch hardware so itā€™s never going to be them that does The Double. Maybe Guerrilla will improve with a sequel but I think theyā€™re just too focused on graphics. On the other hand Bethesda just donā€™t seem to care and their Fallout and Elder Scrolls games seem doomed to always be one generation behind in terms of graphics.
Even something like The Witcher 3, which is an excellent game that looks amazing, still has some pretty obvious flaws in terms of gameplay, specifically combat. For an action role-player in particularly I donā€™t know that weā€™re any closer to seeing both sides of the equation equal out. Armalyte
Across the pond
The thing that strikes me about the Horizon Zero Dawn reviews is that, yet again, the UK sites have marked lower than the Americans. Eurogamer didnā€™t give the game a recommend, and GC, The Guardian, and Videogamer gave the game an 8/10. Most other European sites seem to be in the 8/10 range too, with the high scores dominated by the big US sites.
Weā€™ve seen this happen before with other games but my question is whether this is because Americans like the game more or because of a fundamental difference in how American reviewers do their job. It used to be that American sites would always mark much higher and generally not give a bad review to any big name game. I thought that had changed in recent years though and they were generally more reliable.
Ignoring any conspiracy about being paid off is maybe just the graphics being really good that makes the difference? Are Americans more drawn to state-of-the-art graphics and we Europeans are less impressed? Itā€™s not something Iā€™ve noticed to be honest, but there is definitely a pattern here when it comes to big games. Xane
Two good reasons
After reading your review of Horizon Zero Dawn, Iā€™ll certainly be getting it. Iā€™d prefer to play it on the PS4 Pro, as you said it makes the graphics even prettier, but I canā€™t justify buying a new console just for that. I would, however, fork out a few quid to upgrade my PlayStation 4 to Pro standard, but you canā€™t do that. Why not?
I know the cynical answer, but is there a technical reason why Sony couldnā€™t release a hardware upgrade to the original console? Nintendo did it with the N64 expansion pack, and Sega did with the Mega CD and 32X! Tim Keeling
GC:Ā Weā€™re not sure if thereā€™s a technical reason but the success, or lack thereof, of the Mega CD and 32X is one reason. And your cynical answer covers the rest.
Canā€™t go back
Been playing DiRT Rally on PlayStation VR over the weekend and itā€™s fantastic, I found it much easier on the eyes than Driveclub due to the graphics being sharper. Iā€™m getting quicker times than when I played it in 2D, due to it being easier to judge corners and bumps. On a wheel it feels so natural and Iā€™m going to struggle playing racing games the standard way now.
just wondered if Codemasters were adding a VR mode to DiRT 4 when itā€™s out? Hope so, because I donā€™t know if I will get it now if it has not got a VR mode.
Iā€™ve also really been enjoying Steep, but it would be awesome if that was in VR. Especially when using the wingsuit, itā€™s nerve wrecking in normal mode but in VR it would be a real adrenaline rush! robbie.j
GC:Ā Theyā€™ve hinted at VR support for DiRT 4, but not confirmed it. It seems a no-brainer if DiRT Rallyā€™s VR support proves popular.
Dare to dream
With all this talk about what Microsoft might or might not be showing at E3, I canā€™t help but get excited myself at the prospect. But then I remember the E3 rule of thumb, that you always end up being disappointed because thereā€™s no way things can live up to six months of your imagination hyping up whatā€™s going to be there.
And then I remember Sonyā€™s Shenmue III/The Last Guardian/Final Fantasy VII show and you realise that sometimes dreams can come true! (They werenā€™t actually my dream games, but I get that they were other peopleā€™s). So does that mean I can imagine half a dozen brand new games and there be a chance thatā€™s actually what happens? I hope so. This needs to be Microsoftā€™s E3. Trooper
Game of two halves
So now that most people have probably had a chance to beat Resident Evil 7, do you wish it was more or less serious than it is? I think they got the cheesiness just about right, but Iā€™d definitely say the game was better in the first half than the second. Maybe they couldnā€™t have sustained that kind of setting and atmosphere for the whole game but I wouldā€™ve like to see them try, rather than go in the direction they did (trying not to give any spoilers here).
Just wondering what everyone else though though? Should it have been more serious? Should the sequel add in more traditional Resident Evil sci-fi stuff or keep the same sort of style? Iā€™m kind of torn. There is some classic Resi stuff Iā€™d like to see in first person (and VR) but the problem with any reboot like this is that you just end up slowly creeping back to what you were trying to get away from in the first place. Very interested to see how they handle the Resident Evil 2 remake given that. Crispen
Time for another
Crackdown is now 10 years old, as it was released in North America on February 20th 2007 and worldwide on February 23rd 2007.
It has been 10 years and I had the pleasure of playing this and Crackdown 2. Letā€™s hope we see something to celebrate this milestone, in the future like backwards compatibility with other Crackdown titles on Xbox 360 via the Xbox One, or a possible remaster of the previous two games. gaz be rotten (gamertag)
GC:Ā Or, you known, some news on the new sequel?
Gaming unplugged
Iā€™ve yet to delve join this generation of gaming ā€“ party because Iā€™m skint and partly because all of the stories I hear of the capers that have hampered the majority of games that have come out the last few years. Most games apparently are released half-finished and require ridiculously huge updates that you need the Internet for (which I donā€™t have) before you even get to play the product you paid good money for.
This is incredibly off-putting to me as it sounds like a lot of hassle and doesnā€™t seem to be slowing down (referring to a recent letter about Hitman, which also requires an Internet connection to play to its fullest, eugh).
I really want to join this generation, as there are quite a few great single-player games being released (which I would have thought impossible in the age of online multiplayer) and with more to come in the future it seems it would be a great time to take the plunge and I was wondering how bad it ACTUALLY is. Do most games work after the updates? Do the majority of games require updates? Is it worth buying a PlayStation 4 without Internet connection? Iā€™d ask around the net but find most gaming forums/comment sections full of *insert swear word* and GC and its loyal ā€“ and decent readers ā€“ are the only folk I trust.
Ahh, I just wish game companies would just start charging 70-80 quid per game. The cost of making games gone up but the price has pretty much remained the same. Yes, people will moan, but any game that has literally hundreds of hours worth of content (Skyrim, The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, etc.) more than deserves a higher price tag.
It would also allow companies to produce better quality products that actually work, as we all know money (or lack thereof) is the reason they ainā€™t working right in the first place. GrandaddyGrenadeMan92
GC:Ā Most games will work, but almost all have updates ā€“ sometimes very important ones. We really wouldnā€™t advise getting any next gen console without an Internet connection at home.

This weekā€™s Hot Topic
The subject for this weekendā€™s Inbox was suggested by reader Sarge, who asks what game would you find it impossible to play without its original soundtrack?
For many people a video gameā€™s music is an intrinsic part of the appeal, but what soundtrack do you love so much you wouldnā€™t dream of playing the game without it? Sometimes having the sound on is a problem, and sometimes people like to use custom soundtracks ā€“ or just turn the soundtrack down and their own music up. But what game would you never do that with?
Have you ever been upset with remasters or other versions that change or remove the original soundtrack? And do you own the soundtrack separately, either digitally or on CD or vinyl?
