Yeah that’s him at all times lmao. he cant say hes mad at anyone in this situation, except maybe the universe lmao. i think he just regards this whole situation has his life’s hugest bruh moment LOL. he’s gotten okay at pretending like everything’s fine when he’s around you, because in his mind, there’s nothing else he can do. there was no way he was going to end his friendship with you, but there was also no way he could confess his feelings to you. in private, he’s talked to some of the boys about it in private - mostly jeonghan and joshua, but sometimes when he’s feeling particularly frustrated with the situation, he goes to woozi, who is able to ground him every time he feels like he can’t take it anymore. seungcheol knows that to others, being friends with you while still being in love with you doesn’t make the slightest bit of sense; but if it meant you were still in his life to some capacity, that was all that mattered to him.

joshua: the definition of smiling thru the pain…like he’s literally katy perry They ask you how you sre and you just have to say that youre fine even though youre not fine like. i think more than anything, he’s not too torn up over this situation than he is irritated. the mention of your partner makes his eye twitch LMFAO. like when you come back from going on a trip with them, you start telling joshua about everything you did together and he’s like THAT’S SO COOL Y/N . I’M SO GLAD YOU GUYS HAD FUN. *eye twitch* LOL. tries his best not to go overboard with it or make it obvious that he’s being sarcastic - he’s aware enough to know that your happiness is important and that unless there’s a legit reason one day, he doesnt have any grounds for disliking your s/o too LOL. i think he’s probably overly cautious if you ever tell him that you and your s/o were having problems as well. like he would be try really hard to be neutral if you ever asked him for his opinion on a situation that happened between you and your partner. i think he would feel guilty about being your confidant while having these feelings for you,,as much as he wants to tell you to break up with them and be with him instead, he knows how terribly selfish of him it would be to put you in that situation. so, he endures it everyday.

dk: dude……HE IS ALSO SMILING THROUGH THE PAIN…..but like HES ALSO CRYING….SO BAD….like. he tries REALLY hard to keep everything lighthearted around you - any time the conversation gets even close to being serious, he always pivots to a different topic. some of the other boys can tell something’s the matter when he’s around you, but they can’t quite place what’s different about him. when he’s around you, he just seems ever-so-slightly…off. his smile is less bright, his jokes are a little less frequent, and he’s actually kind of quiet when people are around you two. it’s a weird sight to see, and dk knows this; he knows that others have noticed, but he’s trying as hard as he can to behave as naturally as he can around you. i think he’s one of the members that would be pretty broken up about the situation, similar to mingyu. i don;t see him being able to deal with something like this well. i think he definitely goes to the other boys for comfort about this, to the point where his feelings for you are kind of an open secret amongst them lmao. (except dino because seungkwan begged everyone not to tell him because he thinks dino would make it obvious that dk likes you so they leave him in the dark!!!) 

seungkwan: bruh seungkwan tries so hard to be normal around you but then he’ll text vernon “im third wheeling y/n again please kill me” in the same breath. sometimes when he’s falling asleep at night he’s just like god how did i end UP in this situation!!!!!  he’s more of the kind of person who’s pouty about it instead of sad about it. he just finds the situation annoying more than anything, and he wishes that you would just REALIZE HE’S IN LOVE WITH YOU ALREADY!! but he’s alright with waiting it out. i think he’s one of the members who would be not very fond of your partner LMAO. every time they greet seungkwan he’s just like “oh hey -___- how are you -___-” and your partner is like babe how do i get seungkwan to like me and you’re like HAHA he’s just like that, he needs to warm up to you!! (seungkwan knows this is not the case with this specific person.) but yeah, i think seungkwan also holds out hope that one day the two of you will end up together. i don’t think he would go as far as to ruin your relationship or influence you to break up with your partner, but i think he would definitely confess if you ever became single again LOL. i think it would be a teary confession too, because he’s been bottling up all these feelings for a while.

chan: oh my lee chan…i think he would fucking die in this situation!!! it would just, Destroy him. and you could tell there was something seriously wrong…he just wasn’t his usual excited self anymore, and he was suddenly beginning to avoid you out of nowhere. dino doesn’t want to do this; he doesn't want to be anywhere but by your side, but that place isn’t for him anymore and he knows that all too well. i think he would be one of the only people who would actually confess his feelings at some point, regardless if you were in a relationship or not. i think one day he would reach his breaking point and ust blurt it out because he just can’t take it anymore. i think part of him, although he feels guilty for it, knows that telling you about it is the first step he needs to take for him personally to move on. the only thing that hurts him more than not being able to be your person is keeping a secret this huge from you.

jun: dude this is the cat version of a kicked puppy. like. jun is NOT ok…..and he’s not very good at hiding it i think. i think you’d be able to tell that something was wrong, but jun is terrified about talking about this with you, so you never really find out what’s bothering him. i dont think he’s one who would ever end up telling you about his feelings. in fact, he might be one of the only ones who lets your friendship naturally drift apart because of his feelings for you. it’s not that he doesnt want to be in your life, but he also wants to get over you more than anything. but i think it would be incredibly difficult for him to see you as just a friend tbh, so for as long as you’re dating your partner, i think he’d keep his distance sadly.

hoshi: the light in this man’s eyes have unironically left. like. the thought of hoshi being sad over you……..I CAN’T BEAR IT!!! yeah i think he would take this all pretty hard. though unlike jun, i don;t think hoshi would be able to stay away from you and keep his distance. you’re too precious of a person in his life, and not to say that you aren’t in other scenarios with other members, but i just see hoshi being firm about still being in your life. in fact, he’s one of the few guys that i think is secretly hopeful that one day down the road you’ll end up together. he doesn’t ever voice these feelings to anyone; he knows it’s ridiculous to feel this way about someone who’s already taken, and he feels that if he voices it to someone that he’s going to get bad karma, LMAO. should you ever become single again though is a different story though….

mingyu: for some reason have this vibe that being in this situation would literally destroy him and eat him alive…i just feel like he’s someone who truly loves really, really hard, and adding in the fact that you’re his best friend magnifies the pain by hundreds. what do you fucking do when the person you love most in this world doesn’t return your feelings? he would be really torn up about this because on one hand, he’s never felt this way about someone before, and he wants nothing more than to be with you; but what he wants more than that is for you to be happy, and if that isn’t with him, he has to accept that. sadly, i feel like at some point this would be too much for him,,,like to the point where he keeps his distance from you a bit. he feels awful, but it’s just too hard for him to hear about you and your partner and act like nothing’s wrong when you’re around :(

woozi: i feel like he might be a little hot and cold about it. he is Not happy in this situation, and it frustrates him that he cant really do anything about it except deal. he doesn't really like talking about your s/o and he tries his best to hide it, but you can kinda tell that there's something wrong. but when you ask him about it, he says he's totally fine! i don't think woozi would dare to ever let his feelings for you come to light, and as unhappy as it makes him to not be honest with you, he just doesn't feel comfortable with telling someone he has feelings for them when said person is in a relationship. as little of a fan he is of your s/o, woozi knows that if he was in their shoes, he wouldn't be happy if someone confessed to you while the two of you were dating. i think he would need some distance to get over you, and i think the only way that it would happen is by throwing himself into his work and begrudgingly spending a LOT of his time with hoshi LMAO!!

minghao: would distance himself by making a bunch of life changes to keep him busy so he can eventually get over you. minghao values you too much, so he figures the best solution is to take time to himself so he can get over you in a healthy way with space from you. he isn’t happy about seeing you less, but he knows that it’s what needs to be done in order for him to heal from this situation. would definitely have a vague excuse ready if you ever asked him why he was distant from you; i cannot see any universe where minghao would ever admit he used to have feelings for you, even if it had been years past. he’s keeping this one in the vault LMAO, not even jun knows!!

wonwoo: bruh…..he’s. he’s in pain. but he’s keeping it all inside. i think he’d feel really selfish for harboring these feelings toward you while you’re dating someone else. your partner was perfectly friendly to wonwoo,,,like it makes him feel WORSE that he’s in love with you. he tries to forget his feelings, even getting into relationships once in a while, but everything always comes back to you. i feel like this is a secret he’s told absolutely NO ONE at all because of how much it weighs on his heart. the only soul who does know to some extent is mingyu, because he caught wonwoo crying one day when he came home early from work. wonwoo didn’t really get into the details, but he did admit that it he had unrequited feelings for someone. mingyu didn’t pry, and he still never has. 

jeonghan: there is Pain behind his eyes lol but he is keeping this secret in the Vault fr. Maybe, M a y b e s.coups MIGHT know, but that’s about it. jeonghan is one of the only people i can imagine is completely normal around you and no one can tell that there’s anything wrong. the only reason that seungcheol knows anything is because he knows jeonghan the best, and he could tell by the way that he hung onto your every word that he had feelings for you. but yeah, i think jeonghan would have the easiest time living with this secret from you. sometimes he does feel a little guilty, and honestly sometimes he does flirt with you lightly, but nothing to arouse any serious suspicion. mostly he’ll just say he likes your outfit or something when you’re hanging out, which is harmless in his mind. it does bother him that the person he’s in love with is dating someone else, but i think jeonghan would just be like “what else can i do at this point??” and continue with his life. not much changes between the two of you, besides jeonghan being a little more quiet when the topic of your relationship or partner comes up, but it’s not something you notice anyway. and such is life, whether jeonghan is truly okay with it or not.

I think people really need to redefine what character development means. Because the core of someone's personality doesn't change all that much, Katniss at the end of the day is still stubborn and impulsive. If you changed everything about a character you might as well be writing someone else, staying true to certain traits your character has is realistic writing. Because as humans certain attributes never really change, we only learn to make exceptions or adapt for certain people or situations.

And that is what happens to Katniss, she leans to stop being stubborn and accept Peeta's love but only for him. In other aspects she continues to be stiff, such as never taking order from authorities, trying run from her squad. All impulsive and stubborn acts, true to her original character.

❌Some Spoilers Ahead❌

Hey guys! I just watched the Barbie movie and absolutely loved it. So I had to write a short fanfic on it but if you guys like it enough I may expand on it. I wanted to write this because it seems poetic that the idea of Barbie and Ken would break apart and she can see that she isn’t confined to him or the gender after it being what was expected.

Warnings: Self-Depreciation

Every day in Barbieland was absolutely perfect. Not a hair was out of place, the sun was shining, the sky was bright plastic blue and not a Barbie was frowning.

Except one.

Stereotypical Barbie was about to leave to head into the real world, find the kid who was making her a ‘weird’ barbie, and make them see the empowerment in Barbie once more. Her Barbie friends gathered around her, saying their good lucks and goodbyes, each sounding more and more similar to the last.

Y/N Barbie isnt gathered around her as she frowned at the idea of not wishing her goodbye. As much as she wished to, her brother was tightly holding her back, albeit unaware, as he bragged to another Ken about Barbie ‘inviting’ him to go with. That’s right. Her brother is Ken, as in Barbie and Ken. The supposed to be power-couple. But the truth is, it’s one sided.

Y/N didn’t notice the longing gaze sent her way from the beautiful blonde. Ken did, and of course he though it was for him resulting in a awkward kissy face being sent her way.

She had been too busy thinking about the outside world. It was so unknown. After all she wasn’t nicknamed curious barbie for no reason even if it’s not her official name.

It was odd being a Barbie without a sense of purpose. Y/N was just simply herself. She didn’t have a specified job, she just jumped around and worked with anyone who wanted a little help in their field. Oddly enough she was good at anything after a little practice.

Finally leaving the circle of thoughts as her brothers grip left her arm and her daydream was back to just that, a dream.

But the frown finally lifted at the sight of Barbie. Y/N quickly rushed down to her as Barbie was close to getting into the car.

Barbie heard the commotion of running footsteps and a slight squeak as the person in question was running too fast and literally ran into Barbie as the women in question didn’t even stumble as she felt herself be pulled into a tight hug. After noticing who it eas not a second went by before her arms wrapped tightly against Y/N’s figure.

No Barbie or Ken questioned their warm embrace. Barbie preferred it that way. She knew how Y/N let her brother get the best of her. If he questioned her too much about it, she surely would get awkward and avoid being open like this. That’s just how Y/N was… and she loved her for it.

Y/N has no idea of Barbies feelings for her, after all she’s stereotypical Barbie. She could never even imagine someone like her even considering the thought. Y/N was just another Barbie in the mix. She wasn’t even President Barbie or Doctor Barbie. Like she thought; Y/N was just her.

But that’s what made her so appealing.

Barbie knew long before she started to get flat feet that she had a crush on the girl. But ever since that happened, the only positive thing that could come out of the situation was that her feelings were intensified. They grew more mature and realistic, just like her.

Their hug ended with a soft gaze before they separated completely and Barbie got into her car. Y/N watched as she began to slowly drove away. When suddenly she slammed on the breaks making everyone gasp. She turned around and in one sentence she spoke

“Y/N… will you come with me?”

Again everyone thought nothing of it. Everyone other than Y/N and Barbie, they just smiled before saying their quick goodbyes as the former of which smiled brightly and nodded before gracefully running up to the car and hopping in.

Y/N still didn’t see the loving gaze as Barbie turned her head and continued driving away.

After all it is Barbie and Ken, not Barbie and Y/N

But with all the changes going on around them, why can’t they make one more?

There is so much I can say about this movie but it’s hard to even put it into words. I give it a major 10/10, even above that if it counted. Watching the movie just gave me a different sense of self. It made me feel like I wasn’t alone. With the Barbie world and our world basically being switched where women are in high standing positions and are respected. Meanwhile our world constantly puts women down and are offered less opportunities. I don’t want to get too deep but this movie was a wake up call for so many people to see the differences in treatment and the expectations of a woman. This is just a tidbit of the deep message within the story of a Mattel doll. Something so small that represents so much more then themselves.

GOOD MORNING!! Sorry that this is so late, my professor assigned some super hard assignments smh🙏 I honestly find it very interesting to think about the bsd characters in some vampire au so ty for this ask:3

I don’t normally write for Fukuchi but because this is just a small blurb I figured why not! Bram is also different from the others, as his doesn’t take place in an au and instead takes place in canon. Everyone else’s takes place in an au where their vampirism has a completely different set of rules from Bram’s!! You won’t become mindless if they bite you ty

I feel like Fukuchi has the most control out of any of them? He doesn’t really bite you often because he feels like it’s immoral. He’s already committing enough immoral crimes that completely go against everything him and his image stand for. He’s a war hero after all, why would he want to hurt more people than he already has to, especially when hurting you isn’t even going to save anyone. The only real exception would be if he was quite literally starving, and if you’re in poor health? Forget it. He’s never biting you. He would never bite you recreationally, it would only be if he was hiding from another organization and hadn’t eaten in multiple days.

If he were to bite you though, it wouldn’t be very different. He is a man with a lot of willpower and control. He’s able to control himself better than anyone else on this list, in all honesty. He’ll drink the amount he needs to be sustained, then he’s finished. No more no less.

He would enjoy eating nice meals, like perfectly cooked steak, or other things similar. He wouldn’t be very fond of roadkill, because he has the funds to eat at 5 star restaurants pretty much every day. Why eat things he sees on the side of the road?

Bram is similar in the sense that he has self control. He’s aware of the fact that if he were to bite you, you’d be subjected to becoming nothing more than a mindless, blood sucking creature. That isn’t what he wants from you. He wants to be with you for the rest of his days, even if he knows it isn’t realistic because you’re merely human. He’ll try to simply come to terms with the fact he won’t have you for very long, but it’ll only take him maybe 4 months after he’s gotten his body back for him to go on the hunt for something that can make him human, or safely turn you into a vampire. He’s aware of the page because of Fukuchi, and it’s his number one goal to get a hold of it now. He’d prefer to get it by teaming up with whoever is in possession of it, but if that doesn’t work out, he isn’t afraid to take a more villainous approach. Anything to keep you.

In terms of biting you, he never has because he knows what will happen. But oh god has he fantasized about it. It’s all he thinks about. You’d look so pretty with his fangs in your neck.

He didn’t really eat much before he got his body, only being fed whenever Fukuchi had someone he wanted turned, but that didn’t happen much until the vampirism outbreak. Now that he’s gotten his body back, he doesn’t bite people as one, he would feel unfaithful to you, even if nothing became of it and it was purely for feeding. He also wants to make a conscious effort to be good for Aya’s sake. He eats food you make for him. He doesn’t really like going out in public often, so he allows you to cook for him. You’ve made plenty of meals with blood in them, like animals, but you’ve also introduced him to other types of food, and even if they serve him no nutritional value, he finds them delicious.

Fyodor would love to bite you. If you’re just another pawn on his comically large chess board, then he’ll drink your blood with no real intent of giving you anything in return. Sure, he’ll toss you a rag, but you have to clean yourself off! He’s so horrible. If he cares about you, however, he is strangely tender. He has a sense of self control, but sometimes he gets so desperate for your blood he can’t help himself! He’ll hold you down and nibble into your shoulder. He likes biting your shoulder a strange amount. He can’t explain it, it’s just a nice, convenient spot to bite. This is why he loves it when you wear tops with thin or no straps. Makes for east access! Also let’s not forget that this man is anemic. He’d like to bite you to help get his iron levels up, so at least him constantly asking for you to let him bite you has some practical use? If you say no to him biting you, he’ll respect it. He cares about you, he wouldn’t do anything against your will. You’re the light of his life, after all. You’re perfection, therefore, what you say goes.

Whenever Fyodor does bite you, he’s quite literally on top of you, straddling you. He likes the power it gives him, even if in your opinion, he looks rather pathetic biting you while literally straddling you and trembling from how good you taste. He also likes to bite you from the back sometimes. He’ll walk up behind you, hugging you and swaying from side to side before grazing his fangs over your shoulder, awaiting your permission. He is capable of pacing himself, but if he begins ti notice you're getting dizzy more frequently, or you're getting woozy while he's biting you, he'll stop and clean up your bite, wordlessly cleaning you up and cuddling you.

He also likes to eat fine dining. Nothing can quite compare to the taste of your blood, but there are some fair substitutes. He will drink your blood whenever the opportunity presents itself, but he'll also take the two of you out to a nice restaurant and let you order whatevee you please, while he'll order something simple and bloody.

Nikolai is certainly the most strange when it comes to his behaviors. When he bites you he’ll take the blood left over and wipe it on your cheek or something weird like that😭 he also likes biting you in weird places because he finds it funny?? Like he’ll nibble on your fingertips and shit just for funzies?? Similarly to Fyodor, he would bite you whenever given permission. He doesn’t try to limit himself, if you give him permission, why stop? He’d treat you like fine dining. You’re sweet and yummy and Nikolai can’t get enough of it! If you were to tell him no, say that you don’t want him to bite you, he’d roll his eyes playfully but agree. He obviously wouldn’t want you to leave him because he bit you without asking! Then he wouldn’t be able to drink your yummy blood anymore. He also does care about what you have to say, even if he doesn’t admit it because he feels like it makes him seem less free.

As I said earlier, he likes biting weird obscure places, like your fingertips. He’ll lean down like a gentleman and kiss the top of your hand, slowly trailing down and kissing your knuckles, then your fingertips, before finally nibbling your finger tips. As he kisses you he places him hands on your stomach to press you down onto the nearest couch or bed, so you’ll be sitting up comfortably while he leans ahead of you. He also likes biting places like your collarbones, arms, etc. as much as he likes biting in weird obscure places, the neck is nice too. It’s simple, but affective.

He pretty much only drinks your blood..he’ll go a few days without eating (luckily vampires can last sufficiently longer without food that normal humans can), so once you’ve rebuilt your energy he can drink your blood again. Rinse and repeat that process over and over again, and you’ve got Nikolai’s eating habits. He’s also a messy eater..there will be blood pretty much dripping from wherever he bit you when he’s done so he can wipe it on your face or body.

We’ve already talked about Sigma a fair amount, but I’m down to cover the basics. He loves to bite you, in fact nothing can quite compare. He’ll bite you and once he’s done he has this appreciative look on his face. He loves that you’re willing to let him bite you, but he also feels bad. He tends to space out when he bites you, and he prefers biting you in places that have more fat so it hurts less. He’s already a thigh guy but he especially loves biting you there.. your neck is also a good spot to bite though. It’s a little more painful for you, though, so he tends to not bite you there often.

When he’s finished biting you he’ll just lick up the blood, and get a towel. If you’re too tired he’ll just set you down and take a bath with you, bandaging up wherever he bit you. If you’re not, he’ll treat you real good to make up for it. He may love biting you, but somehow, seeing how you’re attached to him at the hip, clinging onto him for the rest of the day is even more satisfying. He finds it cute.

He loves eating stuff you make for him and stuff from nice restaurants, and despite the fact nothing can quite compare to you, he knows he can’t realistically drink your blood every day. You’d get sick, and not to mention it would cause a lot of swelling and bruising. He’d rather space it out.

I was tempted to make this sufficiently more nsfw, but I decided to refrain from anything sexual outside of biting as I didn’t wanna deviate from the original prompt too much..

Waluigi and Rosalina may seem like such different characters, but I think beneath the surface they’re actually a lot more similar than they appear to be…and that there’s actually a lot of hidden potential between them as a ship.

I should preface this by saying that I do NOT think they work realistically if they fall in love at first sight. I think Rosalina — especially after interacting with Mario and friends after so long being alone — would be quite guarded and very hesitant to be close to/befriend anyone right away, much less fall in love with them…this is also more of a feeling based on her character but I don’t think she’s the type to really be attracted to anyone based on looks alone. I feel she’s the type of person who falls in love with someone — albeit very slowly — because of who they are on the inside. (For this reason I view all Rosalina ships as somewhat slow-burn, at least on her end).

As for Waluigi, he would probably be attracted to Rosalina based on her looks and what he’s heard about her at first glance, as well as fascinated with her mysterious aura, but he wouldn’t love her in a deeper way until later. I think his initial impression would be that she is beautiful but too unattainable — even more so than Daisy, with how reserved, secretive, and how otherworldly she looks. He doesn’t know much about her, but he’s heard bits from Wario about her being a very powerful being/guardian from space that Mario met while saving Peach yet again, so I feel like with this info he becomes interested in knowing more about her and (eventually) becomes more fascinated with her than with Daisy. He does pursue her a bit romantically at the start, but not too seriously.

Anyway, first thing is I think they would relate to each other over the fact that they’re both incredibly lonely for different reasons and that they are outsiders.

Rosalina is lonely because she’s never interacted with this many humans since she left with the Luma to find its mother and is getting used to being on earth again after so much time. I feel like just before she met and befriended Mario, she longed for human connection she hadn’t had in centuries as she felt that the Lumas couldn’t fully relate to her feelings sometimes, but didn’t know how to go about it. She is also obviously an outsider as she has lived in space for most of her existence and is just getting used to how modern society works, including modern slang and technology, so she feels a little out of place even if Mario and her friends like her presence.

On the other hand, Waluigi is lonely because he’s always overlooked and overshadowed by everyone as well as seen as so much of a loser that no one believes in him. Outside of the kart/party/sports events, he’s never really invited to anything and isn’t particularly close with anybody except for Wario, but even then, Wario kind of goes off to do his own thing a lot. He never really belongs anywhere and is just…there most of the time.

This moment where they end up relating to each other wouldn’t happen right away — I don’t see either of them as the type to instantly befriend each other upon their first meeting — but I like to think it happens after Rosalina has gone to a few of the sports/kart/party events. At this point they would be aware of each other’s existence, and would have interacted a few times (with these interactions mostly being Waluigi either doing his usual grumbling or flirting with Rosa because he thinks she’s kind of attractive, she would be a bit taken aback but not really think much of it), but they don’t really see each other in a particularly positive or negative light, kind of more neutrally. Waluigi would kind of like Rosalina because of his attraction to and fascination with her, but would be a bit suspicious of her intentions because of her connection to Mario and the gang. Rosalina would think Waluigi is an…interesting character and isn’t as disgusted or as repulsed by his nature as others (she doesn’t let stuff like that bother her), but she wouldn’t really think much else of him.

However, when it does happen, Rosalina happens to catch Waluigi in a rare moment of weakness when he thinks no one is looking, one where he seems kind of...sad, which is quite uncharacteristic of him. She sees a crack through his usually carefully crafted persona he has of being vain, rude, conceited, and overconfident — which is all a façade. He actually isn’t very confident in himself at all, and has very poor self-esteem. No one — not his (former) crush Daisy, not his rival Luigi, sometimes not even his brother/friend Wario as he can be a bit self-absorbed and dismissive of him sometimes — seems to really care about him…

Rosalina is incredibly perceptive, so she happens to pick up on this small moment and that’s how she ends up confronting him. (She usually isn’t one to approach others first, but she felt compelled to since being the naturally nurturing, comforting person she is, she just couldn’t watch him being sad.) And through this moment — though they don’t get overly personal about their pasts yet — Waluigi somehow ends up being honest about his feelings of worthlessness and not belonging, and Rosalina assures him that he is worthy and that she relates to the feeling of being an outsider, having not spent too much time on this planet. This marks the beginning of an unlikely friendship where Waluigi ends up not playing up this persona as much when around Rosalina and ends up feeling supported for the first time in his life. As for Rosalina, she would feel less weird about being an outsider knowing he is too — I feel like Waluigi would be surprisingly supportive during her weak moments especially after she showed him so much kindness. Through this friendship, they’d slowly begin to trust each other more, share more about themselves, and (eventually) fall in love.

The next thing is, I feel like they would bring the best in each other. Rosalina would bring out more of Waluigi’s calmer, more mellow self; Waluigi would bring out more of Rosalina’s childish, whimsical self. I feel that because of their past experiences, these parts of their personalities don’t really shine through as much anymore…

For Waluigi, this is more headcanon than anything, but I imagine he has been dismissed all throughout his upbringing and childhood by his parents/family, so his persona is a way for him to deal with these negative feelings of worthlessness. This part of his past brings up negative memories which I feel like could be one reason he is quite secretive about his personal life…so I feel like Rosalina is helpful in reassuring him and calming him down when he feels especially angry or bitter about himself.

For Rosalina, I think deep down she still has a bit of unresolved grief over losing her mother and family as well as feels the weight of the responsibilities as the mother of the Lumas and protector of the cosmos so she lost a lot of the childish whimsical self that she had…she easily gets stressed and forgets to enjoy herself…I like to think Waluigi is a prankster even if he’s acting in a more good natured manner so he always tries to find a way to make Rosalina smile/laugh. I love thinking about them doing goofy things together from time to time…

There’s a bit more to it than this but like. These are the two big reasons that I feel they can work. I know it seems very strange and I hope it doesn’t seem too out of character for them but I hope you can see my vision 😭

I definitely get your point but the toxicity in fandom spaces really does make it difficult to enjoy it now especially on here. I’ve seen so much discourse in the last 24 hours in the jjk fandom and I know you say you’re trying to curate a safe space or positive space without someone looking through the tags to find new content to reblog so others can reblog in your circles it’s almost impossible to keep that ideal going? Because how would new non-toxic people ever get their work seen if it isn’t found through main tags? And it sounds like you don’t bother looking for or reading new writers work either if you said there’s no point with tags

i will answer this even though you ended it on—what sounds to me like—a passive-aggressive note. maybe you didn’t intend for it to come across that way, but it did.

i would like to start by saying that i am not a timeworn, well-established blog; i’ve been here since july 2023, which is about 10 and a half months at this point, and never shared fanfic or actively participated in the animanga community until then. a lot of people that i’ve met have been on tumblr for years. so relatively speaking, i’m a “new writer” in fandom.

i’m not going to talk about discourse or the abuse of the tagging system because i think this is an issue on any and every social media platform. unless there are mods who go through and ensure that all posts are relevant to the tags they’re under, there will always be irrelevant content in certain tags; many people are more interested in their work being seen than in abiding by any sort of organizational standards.

that said, tumblr has a unique issue. sometimes, tagging simply doesn’t work on here. it has happened to myself and countless others on multiple occasions: you tag your post currently and it doesn’t show up in the tags. it can be related to images/banners/dividers or words you use in the tags (i.e. using the word “horny” or putting “tw choking”). but other times nothing is “wrong” but your post still won’t show up! and there’s nothing to do about it except to 1. delete the post and wait it out or 2. keep the post up and let it not show up in the tags.

of course it would be nice if the tags worked and if people would keep relevant posts under the correct tags, but that’s a not realistic option currently, so there are other ways to go about sharing work. also i would like to say that while the tags aren’t a complete loss, they aren’t a reliable way to find new work. i never said there was “no point with the tags.”

this was the crux of my post that you saw: the best way to find artists and writers and individuals is through community. you can search tags and see which specific blogs are popular for those tags, and work your way from there. but writers don’t blow up and get noticed because their works are in the tags; they gain traction once they find a place in the community.

i’ve said this in private before—never on my blog—but in my opinion, there are 3 components to a “viral” post:

it’s about something that’s currently popular

it looks pleasing to the eye (to draw people’s interest)

it’s shared by the right blogs

a new writer will never be popular if they only rely on the tags; they must do digging and groundwork to find blogs that they relate to and enjoy. it’s not an overnight process. it takes time and effort. and the same goes for readers! it starts small: by finding one or two blogs that you adore. and then seeing who those blogs interact with, and working your way outward. again: it takes time and energy. but it’s so worth it.

new writers (and artists) are constantly joining our community, and we usually find them when they follow us or follow blogs that we follow. so, to address your last point: no, i don’t often sift through the tags. but i do look at every single blog that follows me, and i do follow new writers. and i do see what the people i follow are reblogging, and find new writers that way, too.

also you can filter and block words and tags that you don’t want to see, like “discourse” and whatnot. the beautiful thing about tumblr is you can curate your space to best suit you!

My main issue with senti-monsters

Alright, so first of all, this is not an essay about the senti-Adrien, senti-Felix, senti-Kagami, senti-Chloe or any other senti-person theories. There are a lot of complex theories and debates and discussions about the ethics and moral implications around it. 

No. This is an essay about missed potential surrounding senti-monsters, which is probably one of the least relevant things you’ll need to hear about it. This isn’t about poor execution or predicting where the show will go. It’s not about someone who did something right (well, not completely), or anything like that. In fact, I am veering far away from most of the usual senti-monster topics. So, if you’re hear to discuss humans born of senti-monsters or anything like that, this is not for you. Sorry.  

Now, first of all, I have opinions about the name senti-monster. Now, it’s not what you think. I’m not one of those people about to advocate for using senti-being here. No. I’m here because I want to ask: “Where are all the monsters?”

My introduction to the Peacock was a black eyed woman ripping a monstrous butterfly made of grief painfully out of Hawk Moth against his will. This thing was huge, massive, and scary. It’s design was creative and clearly reflected that this thing belonged to Hawk Moth, and he didn’t have any say in its creation whatsoever. 

My next few introductions were promising. A lolipop monster made out of a need for processed sugar from a baby, and I read that very well, and a simple monster made from hunger which was nearly impossible to defeat, which yeah, giant frog that’s basically a moving mouth. I can get behind that. 

But unfortunately, we also had Senti-bug, and that kinda derailed things. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love Senti-bug, and the moral implications behind her and her destruction are beautiful, and it raised the sentiment of “Good God, the Peacock’s ability to create life and take it away in the snap of their fingers is horrifying”, but alas, it set us down the path of human monsters, which is most decidely not monster-like. 

See, what I thought was going to happen was that the senti-monsters would be representative of deeply buried emotions, the dark, forbidden secrets that you shamefully keep locked up and hidden away for no one to find, and that their creations would be a very unpleasant experience for their hosts. 

The design team has proven with it’s design ideas to be more than capable of being up to the task. The akumas especially are amazing design wise. Most of them have a unique silhouette, are recognizable at a glance, and you can tell important character traits with them. (Except Vanisher who does not have a distinct character design and doesn’t even have their own episode). There are some pretty obvious flops, yes, but even those often have a reason. Some of these akumas do not look good at all, but usually there’s a reason behind it. Ie, Aspik’s hood is concealing his hair, reflecting his need to hide himself and a visual reference to Hawk Moth, Reflekta’s design is almost painful, but memorable, and the Bubbler reflects his childnessness of both his worldview and his influence, blowing bubbles. 

However, it was clear that akumas were begining to stagnate. It was obviously getting harder and harder to come up with realistic reasons why a character might lose their cool, and the loads and loads of characters was starting to become worrisome if the series wanted to keep up the momentum and focus on the characters they already had. 

The obvious solution, I believed, was making the Peacock target deeply buried emotions, setting up a one-two punch. Either you could become an akuma, losing yourself to your flaws in a moment that you lose control, or you could bury your feelings until they became strong enough to become a senti-monster, a living embodiment of a feeling you never wanted revealed. This would start a catch-22, either you deal with your emotions in a healthy way and resolve them, hopefully in a way where neither of you lose your cool, or you avoid it and it turns on you. 

This would begin to force people to move things very quickly or suffer the consequences. Long simmering grudges you know are stupid and pointless get brought to the surface. Deep fears come alive. Secrets you keep hidden from everyone come alive. It could also affect the heroes too, without completely incapicatating them. For example, Adrien’s hidden resentments could come to life, or Marinette’s crush may decide to confess regardless of her say so. Even better, you could take inspiration from Fu’s montster and make the host have a strong emotional reaction to them. From panic to anger to fear to hopelessness. It’s rife with drama.

Now, originally, the Peacock was meant to be used for good, so how would it work if they were heroic? Well, the same way Shadows work in the Persona series. Yes, each character rejects their shadows, but when they accept their Shadows, they become allies. Yet, when rejected Shadows are a problem. It’d be a case of Bad Powers, Good People, where the Peacock’s abilities are dark and creepy, but could be used for good, not just for combat, but for self-growth, and it’d absolutely deserve the moniker senti-monster.  

This would let us see the heroes deal with talking people down in their own ways, each with their strengths and weaknesses. Queen Bee could cut straight to the heart of the matter and tell you what’s going on, no frills, but that might also hurt people and she might have to learn how to stop being callous but still use her skill at dissecting people and seeing their flaws. Ladybug may be kind and compassionate, with a lot of people looking up to her, but she might have a tendency to miss the point. Rena Rouge may be confident and have an internal strength that allows for no bullsh*t, but she can also be pushy. Carapace may be calm and non-judgemental, but might need to work on pushing people out of their comfort zone. Chat Noir would be great at this, being that he is very naturally empathetic, and tends to understand what people are dealing with quickly, but he’s also conflict avoidant, and would be screwed if it happened to him. 

Plus, I’d be able to see monstrous representations of problems and each character needing to accept terrible parts of themselves or be afraid of others learning about it. And I’d get to see fan material that leans into monsters and that creative side a bit more. Like debates over what Alix’s monster would be or represent, or fan art of Rose’s sick looking unicorn design.

So...it´s complicated. Let´s just say that for now, for the time being, yes - I defo see reader as an unwilling prisoner who is fearing for their life most of the time because I like to write them as realistically as possible and the same goes for Maggot Momma - I want my monsters to remain monstrous. I like to describe things as one might actually experience them and, therefore, things can take a rather dark and twisted turn. But that´s where the appeal lies for a lot of people (myself included).

Exploring the inner workings of someone as twisted as Maggot Momma feels almost forbidden at times, but that´s what makes it so much fun to write and analyze. There´s just something so alluring and sinful about, well, everything Momma represents, really. She´s a deadly weapon which won´t hesitate to snuff out your life and laugh in your face while she does it...except when it comes to that certain someone and THAT´S where the true appeal lies.

What makes that certain someone so different from anyone else? What is it about them that makes a literal monster pause and decide that - yes, that´s the one - and being obsessed, completely smitten with their chosen one which is so untypical for a monster but here we are and, again, THAT´S what´s so alluring about it. A beast turned (somewhat) soft for that one person while everyone else can just rot in hell-

It´s basically Beauty & the Beast gone unhinged you could say.

Also, I wouldn´t go so far as to say reader feels "disgusted", at least not when it comes to Momma´s overall appearance (at least I don´t think I´ve given that impression in my previous posts, feel free to correct me though). They´re simply scared shitless and that breath truly does stink because Maggot Momma´s literally the walking dead and who can blame them IF they felt slightly repulsed by that? Also, have you been around decomposing, rotting bodies over a longer period of time? Me neither, thank god. Because lemme tell you, it would not be pleasant, at all.

Also, you might have noticed that Maggot Momma and her certain someone haven´t actually ticked that box yet. Meaning: anything to do with actual body contact has yet to happen - save for the occasional bite or lick here and a sniff there and sometimes raking those bloodstained hands through their hair. But that´s about it and your ask perfectly explained why I decided to do it that way.

Because, while I do love tapping into darker territory, I don´t want it to get that dark. That´s just not appealing to me as I feel like there´d be no room for that delicious tension or any kind of holy shit that´s hot yknow. (But that´s just my opinion, to each their own.)

So the clothes stay on (for now) and Imma keep sneaking in some lighter moments to balance out all that...other stuff.

But I guess we might be tapping into things like Stockholm Syndrome at some point in the future because I feel like that´s just an obvious consequence of...everything that´s happening in this (cursed) building.

You know? My thought process and my vocabulary increase a lot once I see people talking shit about my favorite things because it gives the motivation to do breakdown on those things and to prove they are better than they might seem so here it goes. 

What Wonyoung did was so wrong on so many levels and it was getting potentially worse because he kept pushing his confession. HOWEVER, I think it's worse because of Tae Joon. If Taejoon hadn't had his heart and trust broken once, this situation wouldn’t look that bad. But it did, but Wonyoung didn’t know. I also feel like Wonyoung is easily manipulated by his boss and he is not truly happy working in Seoul, or even doing the whole spying thing. Also, maybe I got lost in translation, but why is his company asking for something like that? If they knew where Tae Joon was in the first place, why not send someone? And Tae Joon is used to it so …? I don’t know. Many questions, not important. I just want to see gay people happy and doing crafts. 

Anyways, I actually really like Taejoon and him being super mean and distant to his ex. Like, Taejoon shouldn’t act like everything is normal between them and I love the fact that he didn’t forgive him or even forget it happened. Usually, dramas and books take the trust thing very lightly and forgiveness is something very valuable. I really like that by showing how much it takes to earn trust, it is not an easy ride to gain back, and sometimes you are never going to get it back. I really like that conflict. It has substance. It makes you wonder what Wonyoung is going to do to make Tae Joon forgive him. And the fact Taejoon hasn’t forgiven the other one tells you a lot about it. But also, because they are both very different relationships and different people, I think it is easy to see how Wonyoung can earn and have Taejoon's trust back. Like, even if the drama makes it seem like it was easy, you can clearly tell it has layers of character built and strength in the relationship. 

Another thing I see people shitting about is the time they spend together. I am so sorry school hasn’t focused on picking tacit clues and comprehensive skills, truly. I will be here sitting and watching this relationship literally unfold in front of my eyes, and having scenes and words explicitly said that between Taejoon and Wonyoung it has been some time AND STILL READ PEOPLE SAYING THEY ARE MOVING TOO FAST. Babe, this drama is being easily told in at least half a year. Also, people can pretend the relationship had happened at any other moment because they are not explicit in the time except for the whole new year thing. But chill, anyway. 

Last comment. To be fair, the second relationship isn’t that big of a deal to me like the other one is. Like, I can see how their whole drama is going to go if they have more screen time which I don’t think they need. Both Donghee and Hotae are, now, aware of the whole situation between them and I think they both knew about it. I think it is not very complex in terms of how it is going to go, Donghee is very clear in his position and Hotae is just really dumb and doesn’t realize how big of a deal dating is because of his past girlfriends. Also, why bl dramas emphasize so much in having ex-girlfriends instead of ex-boyfriends? Like, if there’s no “coming out” discussion and the focus is not on them being gay, why don't they give them some boys to date? For real, it is like the relationship they show in the drama is the first one of the characters which is not very realistic. Anyways, I hope Hotae finally admits he wants to date Donghee for more than a month. And I am actually excited to see what Donghee is going to say in the end. I will give them that, they are very unpredictable. 

Actual last comment. The amount of hugs Wonyoung and Taejoon give to each other is actually insane. I was bawling my eyes out the whole time because how can they be so cute??????????? Every time I was like “again??!¡!?¡!, stop it, my heart can’t take it”. And also, they looked really comfortable in each other's arms, loving that type of physical touch.

Imagine Lupin’s true death isn’t what anyone excepted it to be.

When you think of Lupin’s death, what’s the first thing that pops into your head? If your like me you’d expect fanfair, you’d expect badasserie, you’d expect explosions and fireworks and a high speed chase to be his final send off; after all it sounds like him doesn’t it? It sounds like how you’d expect Lupin to go out, the live fast die faster but harder and better way that seems all too Lupin, after all the man never has time for half measures, if he’s gonna go out, he’s gonna go out with a bang.

But imagine he doesn’t.

Imagine he dies so quietly it’s almost funny in a way.

Jigen is the one to find him of course. 

Because the routine on that day is as natural as breathing is. 

Another sleepless night of Lupin working into the wee hours of the dawn on some silly project or plan he had in his head. Maybe it was a heist planning or blueprints for some new device who know’s, all Jigen knows is Lupin once again is sleeping at his desk, his head on his folded arms with papers and pens and markers and other such gadgets and tools in disarray around his head. 

And it annoys Jigen because he told Lupin to go to bed but Lupin of course had to be stubborn despite his promise that he would eventually go to sleep. But Jigen shouldn’t be surprised.

But when he goes up to Lupin, to shake him at the shoulder awake like he has done for years, to get him up and either order him to go get proper sleep in a bed or wake up for coffee, imagine his shock when Lupin doesn’t wake up at all. Lupin is a deep sleeper, so Jigen just thinks that’s it. He’s seen Lupin fall off a couch enough times to know that.

But as seconds turn to minutes, he begins to realize that no amount of yelling or shaking or pleading helps in rousing up his buddy. It takes him to long to finally realize what has happened but he can’t accept it cause it’s not natural.

But it makes sense when you think about it. For Lupin’s body to just. . give and buckle. 

Over the years, Lupin has accumulated a substantial amount of injuries and trauma, maybe even more sothen his friends have over the years and that’s saying something when one is a hard-trained samurai with a killer sword and the others been a hit man for many years even before Lupin met him. Fuck even Fujiko and all the danger she’s gotten herself into, has gotten pretty lucky, she’s still scarred of course, they all are, but nothing like Lupin.

Lupin on the other hand hasn’t been so lucky over the years. He’s been lucky to make it out alive yes and he’s still relatively young, but the business he’s in is a dangerous one, all those cuts and shots and trauma and broken bones no matter how much they heal,  builds up over the years and even while he’s still young, he’s old on the inside, his body constantly healing and breaking and healing and breaking all over again and again in a vicious cycle that leaves him vulnerable even though he feels like he can take on the world.

His other habits, his broken sleep schedule, his consistent worrying’s, and his lack of eating properly don’t help much either. The stress that leads to on the body itself can be devastating in and of itself. 

So when Lupin does die, you would think it wouldn’t come as a shock to anyone when you think about it. He had been driving his body into the ground for years, just long enough that sooner or later something had to give . . .something had to finally say enough is enough and quit.

But it doesn’t come to a shock

Because he doesn’t die like they expect him too.

It’s almost kinda funny.

Because a coroner would label the death as natural. 

After all, whats more natural then peacefully passing in one’s sleep.

But everyone else would probably disagree. No they would disagree. Cause Lupin was anything but natural. And a peaceful death is about as unnatural as they come for someone like him.

Especially for him.

So as most of you guys are aware I’m currently going through cloud 9 with Buck being a CANNON BISEXUAL AHHHHHHH. Now, with this being FINALLY being canon I have a list of things I except from Bucks new storyline

1. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONT RUSH BUCKS STORYLINE! 911 was already renewed for a season 8 (because they’re just like that😝) so there’s absolutely NO need to rush his storyline. Sooooooo many people feel seen by 911 doing this, so their main priority should be to let this storyline actually be realistic and relatable because let’s be honest by doing this I’m sure 911 views have sky rocketed (by not only old fans coming back but by other people seeing this show has bi reputation) so their best choice is to keep fueling that passion from those specific group of people

2. Buck should have trouble with his sex life. NOW HEAR ME OUT PEOPLE. Buck has never been with a man before, only women, which means he’s never had gay sex before. Now there’s not a huge difference with straight sex and gay sex but if you’re used to only being in a straight relationship and suddenly you’re in a relationship (somewhat) with a man IT CAN FEEL LIKE IT! 3. Him and Tommy should atleast make it though this season. Like everyone I really want Buddie to happen, however, I really want Buck to be truly COMFORTABLE with his sexuality and used to being in a relationship with a man. This kinda ties in with not rushing his storyline. Not to mention Tommy isn’t even that bad fr, like people are kinda pushing it by hating him so much 💀

4. This is more of a personal want but I CRAVE a good love triangle, hear me out yall. Buck is finally getting used to being with Tommy and Eddie has slowly started forming a crush on Buck. One night Buck and Eddie are talking and Buck starts talking about how happy he is with Tommy. Eddie walks closer to put his hand on Bucks shoulder and say how happy he is for him but after a while they just stopped talking and stares into each others eyes then slowly lean in for a kiss. They could either kiss (Buck starts leaning into it) but stops and says this isn’t right he’s with Tommy OR before they could kiss Chris shows up screaming about wanting pizza (Eddie plays is off like nothing happen BUT Buck stands there deep in thought ‘holy shit we almost kissed”

Ok, just asking if you are open minded to it but…

What if the story goes around between God and Lucifer’s romantic story? How will they become so close and how will the other angels react to their relationship? Would you even like the relationship if they get along so well?

Hmm I’m a bit unsure what you’re asking. Do you mean, basically, what if ABM was about God x Lucifer (or, rather, what if God x Lucifer worked out) and what would happen?

To be honest, I don’t think it could have ever worked out. In ABM, their relationship is never more than predatory, though other angels don’t see it as that – why would they? Everything is good and perfect and wonderful in Heaven and God is good.

I mentioned a long time ago (?) that I was inspired by the story in Ezekiel 16 where God grooms Jerusalem (in a very literal way by making her enter puberty), marries her, then becomes wrathful when she falls in love with someone else and discovers her beauty, then assaults her in punishment.

But this is’t really the only instance where God has a weird romantic/sexual relationship with someone that is very obviously unhealthy. Mary comes to mind. Since I was young I always found the story of Mary’s pregnancy to be very odd (in Mexico, Mary is especially very very venerated.) Some people argue that Mary was too young; I haven’t seen the sources for that, so I can’t say if it’s true, but regardless of her age, I feel creating a perfect girl without sin to carry your child once she’s old enough to be uncomfortable. Some argue that it was all consensual, (Gabriel asked Mary and she said yes), but realistically, why would a young and impoverished woman say no to what could have changed her life for the better? Isn’t there a very obvious and clear power imbalance here? Mary having been born pure also leads to the conclusion that this was all pre-ordained anyway. Catholics’ obsession with her “perpetual virginity” (despite biblical lines that reference other children (Matthew 13)) and purity make it all feel borderline predatory on God’s part, in my opinion; I’m not even going to get into the fact that he’s also her Father.

On that note, there’s not a healthy way for God to have a relationship at all, is there? He can make you do anything, his safety as a partner is entirely contingent on his mercy, he knows everything about you, and he made you. He made you knowing you’d love him, he made you love him.

But the question is about Lucifer x God, and I think there’s an alternate ending where Michael doesn’t exist, Lucifer never learns any basic self respect, and he falls in love with God romantically. I think this would be a horror story. God is incapable of being a good partner, Lucifer acts like an obsessed servant, and the other angels would justify God’s actions because to say God is being, in easier terms, a creep is completely unimaginable. They don’t understand it, don’t have the language for it. And that’s it. An eternity of abuse with no one able to call it out. (Except Uriel, but Uriel would probably look away and pretend it isn’t happening).

You asked if I’m open-minded to it, and well, it’s definitely something I think about. The romantic idea of God making a most beautiful and perfect creation (like a lonely Dr. Frankenstein desperate for a lover) isn’t lost on me. I’m always struck by how Satan and God chat in the Book of Job (it feels very cute to me). But God is God and there is only one God and love can’t be unequal (in my opinion). Maybe if Lucifer indeed became a god, maybe.

do they have any phobias? i’ve been thinking about that. i think the only ones likely to Be Relevant are she’s got some degree of fear of dogs, and she is very afraid of being sedated / anesthetized. she does not like doctors at all.

what is one way to earn their trust? you just have to be persistent. and CONsistent. it takes a certain kind of person, i guess, because she does not make it easy.

The Fifth Season

When a book has so many good things going for it, where do you even start?

I’m still reeling from the ending. Fuck, I knew it’d be a bit bitter but it got me, oh, it’s got me wrapped right around it’s finger. The Fifth Season is definitely my favorite book now and I have a feeling that Jemisin is going to be one of my favorite authors along with Le Guin.

1. Style

First thing’s first, I love mythology styled stories. The Stillness operates around these stone tablets called “Stone Lore” that aid people in surviving a world regularly wrecked by earth quakes and tremors.

It starts out with this almost story book field then blooms into a very harsh fantasy setting but even that does it a diservice.

It’s like trying to grasp sand with your hands. Nothing feels adequate to describe just how vividly Jemisin describes Stillness with a combination of direct description, how people interact, the vocabulary, and the unique conventions like the view of orogenes as inherently bad.

2. Storytelling

Non-linear story telling but you don’t even know it. I must’ve gotten to 3/4s the way through the book before the Damaya is Syen discover hit and FUCK! That was made cool, on top of that, revealing where the obelisks came from???? Very radical. Loved it!

Then just how all the storylines converge just— it is so satisfying. If someone is reading this— go read the book (research tws first) but - i can’t sing the praises loud enough of how amazing Jemisin did with this.

It’s not because it felt like a surprise but just how Jemisin took the time threading together these three perspectives in such a careful intricate manner that you feel it so hard. It’s one of those books best taken 50-70 pages at a time because anymore and it’s overwelming.

You just can always feeling the weight that is hanging on this characters, even in those happy moments and damn do those moments hit so well.

3. Racism

Like I said, I’m white so I don’t feel like I can comment on this except to say that fantasy/scifi dealings with it are interesting and I hope to read more about it cuz like wow, in a different context it really highlights a lot of things I never considered. Like how ingrained it would be to the point of regularly picking out the “desired” traits of a person cuz I’m sure I do that subconsciously but seeing the subconscious conscious is trippy.

That’s all I feel like I can say without putting my foot in my mouth.

4. QUEER STUFF! FUCK YEAH!

Not sure what Innon, Syen or Alabaster’s sexualities are but it is certainly fun seeing strong charismatic folks like Innon being interested in both men and women. I feel like there’s not much of that in media with stereotypically masculine folks. I bet it’s even less for POCs.

On top of that, we have some polyamory! And they raise a kid! TvT and it’s like a situation where the whole village helps and it’s cute and adorable.

Some of my favorite chapters since its such a ray of sunshine in a pretty intense book.

Though, if I could tell my past self anything before reading I’d warn about

1. Non-Con Breeding: it isn’t violent in the stereotypical sense but it gets under your skin. First time it happens especially since it looks consensual even though it’s coerced by the Fulcrum.

2. Child abu*se: you kinda see it coming with Damaya and Scaffa but not to the extent, plus with how eerily realistic it feels, it hits hard. Had to stop for a bit.

3. Child loss: self explanatory.

Normally I can read a book of this size (480~ pages) in 3-4 days. This took me over a week because I had to pace myself, especially in the beginning 200 pages.

I’m super glad I read it. First book I figured out to pace myself too which helped. I definitely plan to co-read books like this with something lighter (def can’t fall asleep reading The Fifth Season).

Overall, like I said, loved it. The writing, characters, storytelling style to the little quotes from the verses and other in-universe scripts made it feel so alive.

Sequel: The Obelisk Gate

You know, I really think that one of the biggest difference between sasamiya and kagihira is that Sasaki and Miyano both have read a lot of romance stories and Hirano and Kagiura hasn’t.

Consider the experience with romance each of the four have had when they meet their love interest:

Sasaki has never been in love, but has read/seen heterosexual romance stories

Miyano had a crush in middle school and has read a lot of BL

Kagiura had a girlfriend in middle school but wasn’t actually in love with her

Hirano has neither had romantic feelings nor dated anyone before

They’re all newbies at romance, but at least Sasaki and Miyano have stories to help them. And their prior experiences have a big impact on how their romance plays out. Because sasamiya are the only ones with an idea of what it’s actually like to be in love. Even if Miyano’s “I don’t want BL to happen to me!” mentality got in the way for a while.

Sasaki, despite never having been in love, recognizes his thought of “oh he’s cute” as romantic early on. But since he only has met it in context of hetero romances before, it takes a little while for him to reconcile it with Miyano being a boy. He’s an open-minded guy, though, so it doesn’t take long. (And didn’t even need BL for it - he recognized it before Miyano lent him his first BL.)

Miyano takes a long time though, because while he is arguably the most experienced of the bunch in both real and fictive romance, he, aside from shipping kagihira, kept BL and his own life very separate. While he recognized gay couples as being a real thing, BL was something “not real” so it mostly confused him when figuring out his own feelings. He still recognizes how easily it would be for him to hurt Sasaki once he knows Sasaki is in love with him, though whether it’s because of BL or his own past experience is debatable. Still, the BL has DEFINITELY made it easier for Sasaki to flirt with him. And sasamiya’s ability to spot misunderstandings and resolve them early is almost definitely in large part due to both of their experience with romance stories.

Meanwhile, while Kagiura has more experience with people having romantic feelings for him than any of the others, this is the first time he’s had them for anyone else. And it turns out that he’s actually incredibly naive about romance. Because here’s why I think that sasamiya’s experience with romance STORIES is so important. Because Kagiura does have a lot of experience with romance, but only from the outside. Romance stories, while rarely very realistic, DOES show what romance feels like and often show some of the ways being in love can hurt. I think that the reason why Sasaki seems to understand his romantic feelings better than Kagiura from the get go is because he’s been in the head of characters that’s been in love, while Kagiura only ever has been on the outside, guessing about what it feels like.

Hirano... Honestly, I think he’s barely ever even TALKED about romance before Kagiura’s third confession. Where Kagiura at least knew what it looked like even if he didn’t know what it felt like, Hirano doesn’t even have that. And honestly? I can’t really blame him, as frustrating as it is to read. Like, consider listening to someone talking in a language you don’t know. You hear the sounds but you gain no meaning from them because you don’t know what the sounds are supposed to represent. To Hirano, that’s what romance is; a language that he doesn’t understand. He’s heard other people speak it enough to pick up some of the words - he knows what it means to accept or reject a confession and what Valentine’s Day is - but he’s had neither interest nor reason to learn it. But suddenly he’s hurting his dear roommate because he doesn’t know the language that Kagi-kun is now insisting they speak. And he’s trying to learn now but romance isn’t easy and because he never talks about feelings with anyone (except Kagiura because he’s forcing him to) he doesn’t have an interpreter like Niibashi sometimes is to Kagiura. Meanwhile Kagiura has to spell everything out because while he is very far from fluent in romance, it’s still more than what Hirano currently understands.
