Oh boy the papers I could write just about the line “Dean, does it bother you how well you fit in here?”
There is so much nuance to Dean’s character in that one line

Sometimes I wish we would start calling out the performative radicalism on this site for the poser bullshit it is. "Remember, it's always morally correct to kill a cop!" "Don't forget to firebomb your local government office!" "Wow, it sure would be a shame if these instructions on how to make a molotov cocktail got spread around!"
Okay. But you're not killing cops or firebombing government offices. You are posting on a dying microblogging website to a carefully-curated echo chamber that has radicalized itself into thinking that taking the absolute most extreme position on any subject is praxis but that anyone discussing the most practical way to effect actual change is your sworn enemy. You do not have the street cred OR the activist cred to be talking about killing cops, babe.

Big news from the criminology trenches. Did you know that if you treat someone like a human being rather than Someone Who Will, We Know, For Sure And Undoubtedly, Commit A Crime, So We Must Lock Them Away Before Their Foul Words Can Infect Our Pure Minds, then conversations about cybercrime are more successful? I want to underscore that the creator of the audio has stated multiple times in their other videos (and in the full length video this audio is from), that she recognizes that voting/demonstrating/calling your reps DOES indeed have an impact, however, they go on to explain that the impact is simply NOT ENOUGH at this point; that by itself, protest is ineffective without making other disruptions to the system. I highly encourage you to check out his other videos. She has a lot of great content that breaks things down.
You can find their videos at this link:

Batman is not "pro-police" and is sure as hell not a Republican
Some people are under the impression that Batman is pro-police, but that is literally so inaccurate. Batman is for police reform and accountability, and he will personally do it himself if he has to. He is anti-gun and believes a police officer should never shoot unless absolutely necessary. He wouldn't have become Batman if he thought the police were competent. He only works with Jim Gordon, because he thinks most of the police are incompetent. He would and has fist fought with dirty cops. He thinks that getting rid of corrupt cops (and politicians) is an important part of making Gotham a better place. He prefers giving petty criminals jobs and social resources rather than having them arrested.
He is not just for police reform but also prison reform, because he believes the point of prisons should be about rehabilitating inmates. He believes that no one is beyond rehabilitation. That is borderline one of his character flaws. He hires former inmates so they can make a living without turning back to crime. He even has a halfway house that former convicts can stay in until they get figuratively back on their feet. He prefers eradicating crime by addressing the root cause, which is often poverty and a lack of social resources.
AND ANOTHER THING- There's this idea that Gotham is a shithole because Bruce isn't doing enough with his wealth, but that doesn't take into account that he is nowhere near the only billionaire in Gotham. He's up against the Court of Owl elites, and a lot of them are board members for Wayne Enterprises and have a say in what the company can and can not do. The Court of Owls plays a heavy roll in politics and most politicians are puppets of the Court and mobs. Politicians that aren't corrupt get killed by the bad guys for refusing to obey. Look at what happened to Harvey Dent. Look at how much money he has funneled into Arkham to no avail. Bruce can not own and control every aspect of every major business in Gotham. No person should have a monopoly on an entire city.

Trying to write a post about the treatment of prisoners in Golden Kamuy, especially relating to some of the conditions we see through Shiraishi's backstory as well as the use of prison labor relating to Anji Toni and the other prisoners blinded by said unsafe working conditions. But every time I do I just hear

— Are you sure Burke wants to buy Collinwood? — Yes, he said so. I'm just afraid it's only the beginning of what he wants.

(i think all the same day?)#it's just so... impactful. that this is blocked in the threshold.#lingering between burke and roger; the drawing room and foyer; pulled to either side by two versions of what happened ten years ago.#roger tugging (forcefully) at her loyalty to the collins family and her gratitude for giving her a home and family;#burke tugging her sympathies because he also wants a home; roots; a big house to raise his kids in — he's alone in the world like she is.#[heathcliff] is more myself than i am!#and you can see the realization on his face that should burke tug her too far;#roger's cord of communion will snap and he will take to bleeding inwardly.#vicki by nature of her character not only responds to truth with her favor — but; conversely; by giving her favor creates truth.#when she likes and trusts and wants to spend time w/ roger he fares very well: a breakfast date where she supplies him with an alibi —#a dinner date that covers up his perjury meeting. vicki's good opinion is indispensable for his survival —#the very minute he loses that — when she is certain he's bill's murderer — she turns on him and so does everyone else and he immediately#loses his freedom (albeit only temporarily held at the police station rather than 5 years in prison)#she's not literally taken laura's place with them — but it's remarkable how much her romantic intentions influence the outcome of that#decade-old case; in just the same way that laura choosing roger as her husband and supplying truth through her testimony lead to#burke's condemnation before. it's much the same game roger is playing at this point in the story (at a significant disadvantage#to last time; because he can't offer vicki — penultimate Good Girl — a ring)#vicki's heart; affection; attraction; tied up fundamentally in Justice. and her position as narrator#making it all the more compelling that she writes Truth as vicki is navigating who *very literally* holds the Pen.#burke's story or roger's story? burke's [redacted] or roger's [redacted]?

KO x Chase. 6 (Bookshop Au) and 16 (Prison Au)
Gelu me puso a chambear😔
Two for a Lie
Context: humanformers.
Notes: I'll use the original names but all happens in Earth, normally
---
The ring chirped, calling the bookeeper and barista's attention, who recieved with a smile and a greet, Chase went again on his book and his coffee, not noticing who it was until the person sit at his side
"It took you long enough" Chase commented, low as it should be in a library
"You promised you'll stop insulting me if I helped you" Knock Out sat next to Chase, he, for once, dressed normaly with a simple shirt, simple jeans and shoes, but his flamboyant attitude was still a clear hint of his over-flavored personality "watcha reading?"
"I know you tend to talk faster but I would be glad if you change that manner"
"Pfft, you're such a killjoy" Knock Out yelled, putting his attention of a cup on the little table, taking it and drinking it with confidence
"That's not yours!" Chase exclaimed with frustration, keeping his voice low
"But yet you're unfortunate our taste in coffee is the same" Knock Out ignored Chase's demand and took another sip
"Idiot" Chase murmured angry
"Prig" Knock Out said with no remorse
"Here's your second order" the bookshop keeper brought to Chase's table with a cute smile "are you enjoying our recomendation?"
"A lot, thank you" as if nothing happened, Chase changed his behavior into a smiley, educated man
"I'm glad to hear that! If you need something just call" the barista and bookeeper said and then went away, Chase took the cup of coffee and gave a sip
"You knew I would do that, right?" Knock Out made a funny, yet dobious smile
"I like my coffee complete. The whole cup" Chase gave Knock Out a piercing look, at which KO reacted at it with a low laugh "now, the actual manner. How are you going to convice you're a convenient criminal?" Chase returned to his neutral face and asked his fellow, Knock Out waited for a pair of seconds before raising his hand a showing a pair of keys with a blue tamagotchi on the keychain. Chase spilled part of his coffee in surprise
"How did you-?"
"I have my methods" Knock Out made a funny smile and threw the keychain to Chase "so, what's the real plan?"
"You enter, you get information, and you get out once a week as if you're talking with a lawyer to really get out" Chase saved the keychain, this time on the other pocket, the one Knock Out wouldn't reach without getting on feet or surrounding him
"And you'll be the lawyer?"
"I am, yes"
"And of all places, why to meet here?"
"Because I like here" Chase closed his book and went to his bag, searching for another and gave it to KO "and because of this"
"Pride and prejudice? In prison?"
"Limited edition with comments, hardback with golden features and illustrations. It is not for prison, it is a thanks gift for helping me"
"Aw! You wanted to give me something pretty?" Knock Out took the book in hands and got closer to Chase "illustrations did you say?"
"Drawed by hand with ink and colored in watercolor"
"Really?!" Knock Out opened the book, which was indeed big, the paper felt soft, and as expected, it smelled like a good new book, KO and Chase's favorite smell "how did you knew?"
"Know what?"
"What book to give me"
"Remember the time you started that bar fight?"
"Eh eh eh, I was doing my part of the deal, you said something you shouldn't"
"Whatever it was. You said you would prefer being reading in your house rather than sitting in the cold alley with a black eye. And I remember you once said you lost a copy of this one"
"Aw, Chase" Knock Out expressed, looking again at the copy "...You know I hate you, but thanks for this. Is beautiful"
"No worry about it" Chase looked at KO by pure instict and education, nonetheless, a cute smile and soft eyes met him "but-! I hope this works as fuel for you to do your job"
"Pfft! Prig. Always thinking on work. I'll make the best job you had ever seen! For nothing I'm the best informant of the city"
...
"..." Knock Out waited for Chase to say a word... or a sound, but nothing came of Chase's mouth "so-"
"In what were you thinking?!" Chase shoted in the low as much as he could, cleary mad at the situation
"Oh, come on! It is not my fault! I mean, it is but there was no other option!"
"To fight in the middle of the hall was your only option?!"
"Yes! Chase, I know you like things to happen as you want and like but this is real life! There's no ethical way to get someone to like you in prison"
"To fight is NOT a way to do so"
"Is not the fight! Is the manner behind that"
"...I made a mistake-"
"Give me two hours and I'll let you know I was right" Knock Out interrupted Chase clear and steady, no doubts on hand or eyes, despite one of them was again black and all his knucles had a redish color
"...fine!" Chase let out, with lots of doubt but no other option but to trust in the process "get out of here" Chase gave up, while Knock Out with half a smile went out of the room
And fuck the process, Chase thought, mostly on deception, on himself of course, because despite he hated to admit, KO's plan worked... fuck, it really worked

Last semestre of English I was technically supposed to read Kafka's the trial. I didn't but managed to write a great paper on humour and authoritarianism and The trial and Milan Kundera's Žert as a way of coping as well as resistance but that paper isn't the point.
Anyway seeing discussions about Kafka's Jewish identity and how it explains his writing makes the trial quite relatable especially now.
Like dealing with antisemitism it's like being on trial without knowing why. Endless and constantly changing, forced to play by rules that have no rhyme or reason. The absurdity of the process and accusations would be funny if it weren't for the fact that I could end up dead like Josef K.
