red flag- o.piastri
===========
===========
summary: you get in an accident on track.
pairing: oscar piastri (no.81) x fem! driver! reader
===========
“Red flag, red flag, safety car coming on track to retire all cars, too dangerous out in sector 3, drive with extreme caution,” his race engineer called over the radio.
“Is everyone alright?” Oscar questioned, slowing the car, the other drivers behind him doing the same.
“We’re not sure, Y/l/n crashed in sector 3 and hasn’t gotten out of the car just yet. We’ll keep you posted.”
What? You’d crashed and you weren’t out of the car yet? What the fuck? He knew you, he remembered what happened back in f2, back when you’d had the worst crash of your career and you jumped out of the car with a broken leg. Then, you’d at least gotten out of the car. Now? You were in the fucking car. Still. Minutes after your crash.
“Race is off, conditions are too dangerous.”
Fuck.
As he pulled into the pitlane, he jumped out of his car, following the other drivers to the briefing room as they all pulled off their soaking suits and damp helmets.
They sat, waiting for news as none came through. All they knew was that you had to be pulled out of your burning car and airlifted to the nearest hospital. Which meant that you weren’t conscious when you got out of the car. Which meant fucking terrible things.
Time passed and nothing really happened, so they were all sent back to their hotel rooms.
“Hey Osc, you want us to come with you? We don’t want you to be on your own right now,” Logan smiled softly, standing at the exit to the McLaren motorhome. Beside Logan was George, Lando, and Alex.
“Thanks guys,” he mustered up some half-smile and they shared a car, then hung out in his room for a few hours.
Oscar’s phone rang after about an hour, an unknown number. Usually, calls like these would go ignored, especially at a time like this, but something told him to pick it up.
“Piastri speaking,” he asked quietly.
“This is Oscar Piastri? Y/n Y/l/n’s emergency contact?” a female voice asked.
“Yes, yes it is,” he blurted out, grabbing the attention of Logan, Alex, George, and Lando beside him. They held their breath.
“Well, Y/n was in an accident on the track and she suffered extreme internal bleeding from a broken rib, one that broke during the early laps of the race. She passed out from a lack of oxygen, and crashed into the barrier at a very high speed, meaning that she has a few more broken bones and issues. We'd ask you to come to visit her, she’s been asking about you non-stop since she woke up.”
“S-she’s awake?”
“Yes, Mr. Piastri, and she’s refusing to take any medication unless you come down here.”
“I’m on my way,” he hung up the phone without questioning and grabbed his coat and shoes, as the boys followed. Oscar didn’t even bother putting on his shoes as he ran through the hotel and out into the pouring rain. Logan hailed a cab as the other boys tried to get him to calm down.
“You need to slow down,” George soothed, getting a grip on Oscar’s shoulder. It was strange for them, seeing this much emotion from Oscar. He’d always been so level-headed, so calm. Well, it wasn’t strange for Logan to see it. He was there in f2 when Oscar started crushing on you, and when you two got together. Every summer break you three (and a few other ex-f2- current f2 drivers) go on a week-long trip, just to stay in contact, Logan got a front-row seat to Oscar’s devotion to you. It was sweet, and it brought Oscar out of his shell.
“She’s refusing medication, if I don’t get there fucking quicker, George, so no, I don’t plan on calming down-” he cursed, brushing his hand off his shoulder.
“Hey! That was shitty, apologise Oscar. Everyone’s fuckin’ stressed right now,” Logan called back as the taxi pulled up.
“Sorry George,” Oscar added and George nodded, unaffected by his comment.
The car ride was tense, all of them wanted to get to you, needed to get to you. The hospital came into view, and the boys ran out, George paying the driver and following the rest of them into the foyer.
“Oscar Piastri, I’m here for Y/n Y/l/n?”
“Oh yes! Are you family?” the nurse behind the desk asked.
“I’m her emergency contact,” he replied.
“Yes, but are you family?”
“I’m her fiancé?” he answered.
“What?” Lando gasped. “You two got engaged?”
“During the summer break,” Logan answered. “He was planning on telling you after today.”
“All her family is in another country,” Oscar explained. “I’m the closest thing- we’re the closest thing.”
The nurse nodded and handed them visitor badges, and led them up to your room.
“You go in first,” George nodded to Oscar. “You’ve got this.”
Oscar tried to look positive, but it was difficult when the love of his life was in a hospital bed behind the door in front of him. He pushed open the door and when he saw you, he wanted to scream. Hooked up to machines, but you were awake and bothering the nurse about him. Who gave a shit about him? You were important, you were the most important thing on the planet.
“Baby, take the meds please,” he barely whispered, but you heard it and almost cried at the relief. She administered the drugs and left you to be. Your engineer left the room to give you privacy, he’d gone in the helicopter with you and had been the first to notice something wrong with you during the race.
Oscar listened as the nurse explained your condition before she left. They suspected that you’d broken a rib during the first few laps, but it had punctured your lung, and you’d passed out in the car. Then you went straight into a barrier at almost 250 km/h. You broke 3 more ribs, 5 vertebrae in your back, your right hip, your right leg, your left arm, and you fractured your collarbone, as well as all the bruising and cuts you’d gotten. He felt sick to his stomach. The nurse left to inform the others.
Oscar stood at the end of your bed. “What were you thinking? Why would you refuse medicine?” He asked, his voice tense but calm.
“I wanted to see you,” you shrugged. “I needed to talk to you.”
He looked up to see you. The bruising, the cuts, the bandages, all of it, it was almost too much.
“I lost the ring,” you admitted, choking up. “When I woke up it was gone. I’m so sorry Osc-”
“I dont give a fuck about the ring baby, I care about you. I care that you’re alive, alright?” He sighed, moving closer to your face. “I’ll get you another.”
You started crying as you held him close. It was all too much, the pain, the stress, thinking about what would happen after you got out, wondering if you’d ever be in an F1 car again, it was too much. Oscar always seemed to calm you down, to settle you, not this time. You’d never seen him this stressed, no one had. It was unsettling, unnatural, and it made you more worried, it made you think more, and it made everything too real. Every sob that left your body caused another surge of pain through your back and chest, god, broken ribs were no joke. You kept crying and he kept holding you, pleading with you to stop because he knew how painful it was, and he knew you’d pass out, and he’d be alone again.
You passed out in his arms and the nurses ushered him away and back to the boys.
“How is she?” Alex asked, standing from his seat.
“She passed out,” Oscar answered. “She’s in so much pain.”
Logan clapped a hand on his shoulder. “She’ll pull through. She’s the strongest person we know.”
Oscar nodded as tears filled his eyes. “This is so fucking unfair,” he cursed.
“We know mate,” Lando agreed. “We’re fucking livid.”
“Did she at least take the meds?” George asked.
Oscar scoffed. “Yeah,” he rolled his eyes. “She wanted to talk to me because she lost the fucking ring I gave her. Like I’d ever fucking give a shit about a ring over her.”
Logan chuckled softly. “Well, that’s your Y/n for you. Loyal.”
They all cracked a smile, even Oscar (kind of).
“She’s going to be ok, alright?” George reminded him. “She’ll be back in that car in no time. She’s a fighter.”
“I don’t know if I’ll be able to keep going if she doesn’t,” Oscar answered. The weight of his confession sobered the other three to the somberness of the moment.
“Well, it’s a good thing she’ll pull through,” Alex said.

requesting an f1 fic inspired by the song “reckless driving” by lizzie mcalpine ft ben kessler? 🙏🙏 (any driver & i adore your work)
never felt this way with no one
★ : feat :: oscar piastri x reader ★ : genre :: flufff, mature ★ : word count :: 1k+ ★ : a/n :: i love lizzy so much, this was so fun to write
you were driving while a slow song was playing on the radio and as soon as there was a red light, you stopped and smiled before turning your head to look at—
oscar held your face in his hands before slamming his lips against yours. you eyes widened before you closed them and kissed him back.
he tasted sweet like the dessert you guys got before leaving the restaurant.
he deepened the kiss as his hand slipped from your face to the back of your head. it was too consuming but good.
as you got lost in mingled breaths and soft lips, the light turned green and a loud horn from behind had you stumbling backwards.
oscar cleared his throat as you started the car again. refusing to face you because his face was tinted and his heartbeat was so loud he could hear it in his ears.
what he missed out on was your own cheeks that were burning as your mouth stayed in an upright position. hard to stop smiling because this— him. it was exactly what you you were expecting from today through all the nervous getting ready for the date.
"i'm sorry..." he started before you shook your head.
"i'm glad you did, don't apologise." you murmured trying to breathe and get rid of your smile.
"i wouldn't have... i mean i wanted to but—"
you stumbled over your words but finally looked at him as oscar's hand squeezed your hand that was closest to him.
"i wanted to do it more." he admitted. "i've been thinking about it all night. i just... i wasn't sure if you'd want me to."
you chuckled as you shuffled to get comfortable in your seat, your eyes on the road, feeling a little braver now.
"oscar, i've been hoping you'd kiss me since you picked me up."
he laughed, the sound light and full of relief. "really? i've been so nervous. i kept trying to find the right moment."
you turned onto a quieter street, feeling the tension from earlier melting away. fuck, where were you even driving to? one kiss and the man had turned you into a mess
"i guess the red light was the perfect moment."
oscar nodded, his thumb gently stroking the back of your hand. "yeah, it was."
you glanced at him to see why he trailed off and were satisfied to see that he was already looking at you— at your lips and your skin felt like it was on fire.
you knew what he wanted because you wanted the same— more.
oscar sighed as you pulled into a parking lot, putting the car in park before turning to face him fully. your insides burning with the desire to feel his skin again.
"well, we're not driving anymore." you whispered, not knowing where this recklessness was coming from.
oscar grinned and shook his head as he leaned in close once again. "no, we're not."
he kissed you again, this time slower, more tender. you wanted to be careful, not wanting to kill the flame before it was even lit but as his hands found your waist, pulling you closer, you melted into him, your hands threading through his hair.
and you decided that just this once, you’ll give in and let him take the lead even if his hands are off of the lead.
the kiss deepened, becoming more urgent. your breaths mingled, the car feeling both too small and too intimate. but you guys were too far gone now when he pulled you over onto his lap.
oscar's hand slid under your shirt, his touch feather-light against your skin as you gripped his thigh. you gasped softly when he rubbed circles on your waist and kissed down your neck, the sensation sending shivers down your spine.
you broke the kiss, your forehead resting against his as you both tried to catch your breath. "oscar," you whispered, your voice trembling with need.
he looked into your eyes, his own dark with desire. "god you’re driving me insane," he admitted, his voice low and husky.
you nodded, suddenly you brain too foggy to reply coherently, feeling the same burning need. "i want you too."
his hands continued roaming over your body, exploring, caressing. your own hands were busy, fumbling with the buttons of his shirt, wanting to feel his skin against yours. you managed to get it open, your hands sliding over his chest, feeling the hard planes of his muscles.
oscar's lips found your collarbone, kissing, nibbling. you arched against him, a soft moan escaping your lips as you realized that he was leaving a mark. the heat between you was almost unbearable.
but then, as you both tried to maneuver in the cramped space, you couldn't help but laugh. the steering wheel, the gear shift, everything was in the way.
"i'm too jelly, i can't drive," you admitted, breathless and laughing.
oscar grinned, his own laughter joining yours. "you know i can drive," he said, a teasing glint in his eye.
you cracked a joke, unable to resist. "would i be worried about your driving skills off the track?"
"i think you'll be safe with me." he laughed, the sound rich and full. “won’t let anything happen to you baby.”
you leaned in for one more kiss, slow and sweet, savoring the taste of him. when you finally pulled back, you were both smiling.
oscar took the keys from you, and moved to the driving seat, still feeling the lingering heat of his touch on your skin.
you didn’t know how this happened, but you were glad it did. that it went this far. feeling like a teenager when you noticed that oscar couldn’t keep his eyes on the road.
“eyes on the road,” you joked, your breath hitching suddenly when he leaned over to squeeze your thigh in reply.
you sneaked your hand towards his vacant one and intertwined your fingers, blushing furiously when he pulled the joined hands towards his mouth to leave a kiss.
"want to go back to my place?" he said shyly, expecting you to turn him down.
but you felt a warmth spread through you at his question, the simplicity of it making your heart swell. "yes, i would love that," you whispered, your voice soft and full of affection.

OP: i can’t complain but i will
pairing(s): oscar piastri x mercedes driver!reader; oscar piastri & driver!reader & lando norris; lando norris x oscar piastri
word count: 2.4k+
an: here’s a little bit of angst a little bit of fluff and me holding myself back from making osc x reader x lan a poly ship😭 disclaimer: this isn’t an accurate reflection of the events of the Hungary GP. i take creative liberties as usual! and sorry to lewis. it’s still a mercedes P3 i guess😭 also here are my thoughts on the race so nothing is misconstrued here. AND gif credit because it keeps disappearing!
I. I choked on such longing I couldn’t spit out
Oscar crosses the finish line in Hungary and it’s fine.
It’s fine.
Y’know, fine in the way where there’s this feeling in his chest. This thing gnawing at his insides. At his gut. And maybe it’s his helmet, maybe it’s the temperature, but there’s something on his cheeks. Heat. Something burning. Maybe.
His mind goes immediately to those clips he’d seen of Lando’s onboard in Miami. The shrill little giggles, the high-pitch of his teammates voice, the cheer of the crowd faintly in the background. Crackle hiss—
No one’s cheering for Oscar—
Tom is on the radio.
Oscar’s not stupid, not by a long shot. He can hear the strained quality of it, the forced cheerfulness.
Yeah. Oscar apologises before he can think twice about it. It just slips out of him. He thinks of you telling him— on a Tuesday night two weeks ago— that he needed to “stop saying sorry so fucking much, Oscar”. The way he’d been distracted by his name in your mouth. Oscar. Not Osc like he’s used to, or the occasional Oscie you’re prone to throw out. Oscar. Like you were serious.
Whatever. He says something to Tom that his publicist would be proud of. Waves at the grandstands. Tries not to think, not like this. I didn’t want it like this.
A sigh leeches out of him. Lando’s car is in his periphery and you’re trailing behind him as the three of you turn. The three of you on a podium… it’s a dream come true for him. But— yeah— not like this.
He’s in the car for too long. Helmet on his head, where no one can see his face. He’s okay, he thinks. He’s fine.
He thinks of being a little kid at Albert Park. Watching F1 in the living room late at night. Getting in a kart for the first time and feeling alive. And okay—
Yes, there’s a sour taste in his mouth. Words unsaid sitting on his tongue. But he’s starting to feel the smile tugging at his lips. The feeling is his chest starts to ease, just a little. Just a bit.
He’s looking up and there’s you and there’s Lando. You’re on opposite sides of the car, Lando’s reaching for him, for his hand. Clutching it tightly. Lando squeezes once, his helmet covered face bobs in a nod that says something… part of Oscar hopes it’s I’m sorry. Another part of him is mad that it may not be.
And you, well you have no idea the half hour he’s just had. But your hand is on his shoulder and then on the top of his helmet and you’re whacking it with a gusto he hadn’t expected. He thinks you might be crying. You keep reaching in through your visor to wipe at your eyes and it’s making Oscar feel sick. You’re crying and he’s sitting here feeling sorry for himself because the win wasn’t perfect.
Fuck.
So Oscar grins and he bears it.
He gets out of the car and he smooths it over until everything is okay again. Because that’s what he’s good at. Because that’s how he’s made it here. Oscar Piastri is a team player, sometimes more than he is anything else. And that’s okay, that’s fine for now, because one day, eventually, Oscar is going to be the reason they need to hire a team player. One day he’ll be the beating heart of some Formula One team and he won’t have to win a race because his teammate had to let him by—
That’s not Lando’s fault either. Lando is…
He’s Lando. Oscar gets it.
Oscar gets it more than anyone.
II. I am obsessive. I contain nothing but the replay
Lando is trying so fucking hard not to have a tantrum.
It’s this infuriating feedback loop where he thinks I had it and then something cuts in to say but Oscar deserved it and then it starts over again. It’s making Lando feel like shit, for losing, for being a bad friend, for jeopardising the relative peace of the team. He’s trying to temper the angry, selfish little spoiled brat voice in his head but it’s so fucking hard to keep that dog on a leash.
He’s trying to be okay.
He’s in the post-race room with you and he’s trying to be fine.
And okay, so he knocks the stupid second place cap to the ground in front of the camera that’s broadcasting you guys to the world. Always second. God. He’d tasted a win in Miami and it’s almost like he’s worse off for it. It’s a win or it’s nothing and it’s tearing him apart from the inside out. There’s a voice in his head that’s saying, you’re just a one trick pony, Lando. Do it again and you might be worth something.
It’s making him crazy.
He bites his tongue. Turns to look at you, lounging in the third place chair like it doesn’t matter, like you’re happy to just be on the podium.
You raise an eyebrow at him, face blank but he knows what it says anyway. Be happy for him. He would be happy for you.
Fuck, and he would—
He would. Selfless and kind above all, Oscar.
Lando frowns, his back to the lens.
Your gaze flicks from him, to the hat on the floor. Pick it up, it says. Pick it up and pretend.
Lando picks it up. He’s the one who gave Oscar the position back after all. He’s his own worst enemy right now. Not you, certainly not Oscar—
Speaking of Oscar.
He’s here. He’s holding the first place cap that Lando wants to be his, he’s putting it on his head and Lando’s okay. Lando’s fine. He’s watching the race replay and seeing Max turn into your car and he’s trying desperately to look at that, pay attention to that, and not Oscar.
Because it hurts.
Not in a good way, not the way Lando looks at him sometimes and feels some yawning sun in his chest.
Instead there’s something bitter and snarling.
Some chained, angry dog on a leash.
Lando turns, goes to sit in the chair he doesn’t want to sit in, and catches Oscar’s eye. He feels the snarling thing strain, it goes to bark, to bite. Then Oscar smiles. It’s not much— it doesn’t reach his eyes exactly. But it’s effort. It’s thank you. It’s I know what that meant.
It’s enough.
III. He forgives you, dogs are like that, so loyal
You know something is off the second that you get out of the car. This isn’t what Oscar’s maiden win is supposed to look like— or it almost is, but the picture is wrong.
It’s not ecstatic, it’s not crowds chanting his name, it’s not Oscar getting out of the car like a shot and jumping into the arms of his team.
Instead, you see grim faces plastered over with smiles, McLaren engineers huddled into groups and talking in hushed tones. Lando’s sulking, you can tell by the set of his shoulders, the way people hover around him, keeping their distance a bit. You blink— there’s something in your eyes, your nose tingling with some emotion—
Whatever. You push it aside, go to Oscar’s car before anything else, before even taking your helmet off. It's you and Lando on opposite sides and whatever the case, whatever happened out there that you're not aware of, Lando's here. Lando's sucking it up.
You find out bits and pieces over the next hour, from your race engineer, from the post-race interviews, from Lando's attitude in the cool down room. The tension between them is bleeding into everything and they orbit around each other all afternoon. They can't quite look at each other, they keep making eye contact for a split second and then letting it slide away. They keep smiling these strained things at each other. Lando keeps reaching out to touch Oscar, but always at arms length. Like an apology neither of them can quite commit to.
You know it's the team that are the issue and it's also this hurt that Lando can't quite get over, and an Oscar who is trying to just be happy but needs more time to get there.
It's making your heart ache.
You've dreamt of this, stupidly enough. Oscar on the top step of the podium, that bunny-tooth grin of his spreading and spreading. Champagne and confetti. You're there, of course you're there. Lando is too. So it's painful to have that dream actualised and to realise it's not perfect— because, well, nothing ever is.
And it's fucking unfortunate.
But it's them. So it's fine.
You're baffled by that sometimes. You still hold grudges against old teammates. There are things you'll never forgive them for, wounds that will never heal. But you come back from your frustratingly long debrief and find them doubled over outside their driver's room, giggling their heads off at something. It's not perfect, there's still something between them, something in the air.
But they're trying.
And Oscar is smiling wider than you've seen in a long while.
So for Oscar's sake you push it aside—
It's always a little different away from prying eyes, away from rolling cameras, in front of which you feel pressure to act like Oscar and Lando are first and foremost your rivals. When they're gone they can just be your friends. Your boys.
Naturally, you're thudding into Oscar before he really notices you're there. Too busy throwing his head back at something Lando had said. He's still in champagne wet fireproofs as you reach your arms around his shoulders, but so are you. He smells vaguely like a wet dog and lets out a soft oft noise as you charge into him.
"Hey, race winner," you say as he threads his arms around your waist.
You put your forehead on his collarbone, close your eyes as a laugh flutters out of him. You hear it rumble in his chest as he rocks the two of you gently from side to side. It's giggly, light and joyful like the one he does when he's tipsy. But he's not tipsy, just happy you think.
"Race winner," he mumbles, low, quiet, to himself more than anything, "Yeah."
"Yeah," you whisper back.
You're like that maybe for too long. Longer than people who are just friends should be. You can hear Lando moving around behind you, asphalt grinding under his feet. His gaze prickling the back of your neck. Eventually, you pull away. You slide your hands to grip Oscar's shoulders, fingertips pressing into warm skin, lean up and press a kiss to his cheek. Accidentally, your lips land too close to the corner of his mouth, brushing against stubble and sweat. You hear something soft escape his lips, barely audible as his brown eyes bore into yours. Pupils blown large, gaze drifting momentarily down to your lips.
"Good job today, Osc," you say, trying not to let your breath hitch.
You pull away a little before he does something in the heat of the moment— and right in front of Lando, of all people. He's high on adrenaline, that's all. That's all.
"Thank you," he smiles, all teeth.
You feel hot all the way down your neck, into your chest. Hm, premature menopause, you think, rather than the obvious— which is that it makes you mega nervous to be that close to Oscar Piastri.
Lando clears his throat.
In a jerky, surprised movement you step away from Oscar, while Oscar fumbles awkwardly for his phone in his pocket. He holds it up, says something stumbling about calling his family and then takes only maybe five steps away before you or Lando can say a thing.
You laugh, just a little.
Then do a pleased little spin to face Lando.
Who seems better, lighter. At least in comparison to how he was immediately post-race. Which you’re glad to see. Especially after catching bits of his team radio from a brief conversation with George. You’re not particularly happy about it, but it’s not really your place to be upset.
“Hey,” you smile warmly.
He smiles back, tighter than you’d hoped.
You move a bit closer into his personal space, watching him carefully. It’s okay you think. He’s more subdued than usual, but you can’t see the seething thing that was under his skin earlier. That would be fine of course, he’s entitled to that, but his sake you’re glad it’s gone.
“You okay?”, you ask.
Lando nods, eyes falling closed momentarily as he hums contemplatively, “‘M okay. Happy for him.”
You nod, stepping closer to pull him into a one armed hug that’s not quite as energetic as the one you’d given Oscar before.
“Yeah,” you say quietly, pressing the side of your face into his cheek, “Upset too?”
He hums again, sighs, “Yeah. ‘Course.”
“Yeah,” because you get it,
Maybe not in these exact circumstances. But you know what it’s like. To chase a win with everything you have, to fall short after it’s been in your grasp. You understand that. So does Oscar—
Speaking of.
Oscar’s back, footsteps crunching asphalt behind you.
“They’re asleep,” he explains, “I’ll talk to them later.”
You half let Lando go, moving to accommodate the race winner into your little circle. They’re a bit weird about it, shuffling into place awkwardly, you’re not surprised after a day like today, but you persevere— wrapping arms around both of them and pulling them simultaneously down into a haphazard hug that you’re in the middle of.
Lando’s face is in your neck somehow, mumbling something about you being overbearing while his hand clutches at your waist to keep himself upright. Oscar’s arm is tight around your shoulders and your face is squished up against his chest. You squeeze tightly— let them go when it’s been a minute too long—
You can feel yourself almost getting caught up in the tangle of limbs. The warmth of your friends. The emotion of it. You think there’s something stuck in your eye again, something wet in your tear ducts.
You sniff, try to ignore it, hope they don’t see.
Then, stupid observant Oscar, “Are you crying?”
You let out an offended noise and shake your head to deny it, but instead something that’s almost a sob, but not quite, slips out—
“No,” you declare, but it’s unconvincing—
and then you’re back in the hug. All sweat and sticky champagne residue, Lando’s too-strong cologne and Oscar who smells like burnt rubber. And it’s not perfect, because nothing ever is, but it’s enough for you.
this was really cathartic for me to be honest. just needed my little driver!reader to hug landoscar after that race. needed to get some big feelings out and then needed a sweet little fluff section to make me feel better.
ALSO DISCLAIMER: this was a work of FICTION it does not reflect the entirety of what i feel about the events of the hungary gp. i am simply playing with dolls! thank you and goodbye!

Grand Prix Morning (Oscar Piastri x Reader)
Congratulations Oscar on his first win!!
Summary- After watching the Hungarian GP and seeing Oscar apologise after his first win, you wish you could make him feel special and that he deserved it. So, you go to bed and wake up on the day of the GP!
{Reader's POV}
I wasn't sure if I should be happy or sad right now. Oscar Piastri just won his first race in Formula One and in his second season. That was such a proud moment until you remember the actual shit McLaren pulled on their drivers. I had been watching the race today, Oscar was pretty good in the beginning and being his fan I obviously hoped that this was the race he finally got his first win. But after the pit stop and Lando leading I didn't think possible; until I heard the radio message. I had mixed feelings. I rejoiced watching Oscar cross the chequered flag. But then I heard his message, apologising. It broke my heart into a million tiny pieces. But what could I do? My voice would be a tiny whisper in the sea. I shut my TV off, not in the mood to watch any of the post race stuff; because I felt bad for Lando too. I couldn't bear sitting through the interviews. So, I made myself some dinner, watched a rom-com to get my mind of things and went to bed, earlier than usual. I would deal with my emotions tomorrow.
Now when you normally sleep, you expect to wake up in your own bed, as an adult at least. When you were kids, that was a different story. My eyes were adjusting to the dimly lit room and a figure in front of me, walking around the room as quietly as possible. The room looked like a hotel room and the figure in front of me was Oscar Piastri. "Oscar" I said out loud. "baby, did I wake you up?" he asked like a deer caught in headlight. "No" I replied tentatively. Was this a dream? Was I this sad that this is how I was coping? "What's the time?" I asked reaching for the lamp. "It's 6 am. I'm gonna get some exercise done before I head to the paddock" he said while tying up his shoe lace. "I'll come with you when you leave for the paddock" I stated; scared to be alone where ever I was. "Sure babe" he replied, striding up to my side of the bed, leaning down and leaving a peck on my lips before whispering a bye against my lips and heading out.
My brain had short circuited. Oscar Piastri kissed me and called me terms of endearment. This has to be a dream but those pink lips were so real, warm and slightly dry and peeling. The way his hand cupped my cheek when he pecked me, the warmth still lingering against my skin. I reached for my phone to check what weekend it was; to my surprise it was the Hungarian Grand Prix today. The race Oscar won, maybe I'm here to wrong the right. I quickly showered and got dressed. If I got to be a WAG even for a day, I was gonna enjoy it. I wore a pretty coral midi dress. As I sat there in the room waiting for Oscar to return, a smile etched on my face as I went through my gallery.
We had been dating for a while, since his F2 days. He was all the bit romantic as I imagined him to be. My parents loved him, his parents loved me. This felt like a fairytale. There was one problem, Oscar would probably know that I was someone else and not his 'girlfriend'. I don't know how this version of me acted. The jig would be up so soon.
Oscar walked through the room, all sweaty and red from the work out. "Lemme shower and then we'll get breakfast" he said not even looking up while taking his shoes off. The moment his eyes travelled up from my legs to my face, a smirk plastered across his face. "You look gorgeous" he said almost breathless. I couldn't help but giggle. "You look hot" I replied. "Only for you" he shrugged. I felt the heat rise up from my cheeks. "Can't believe I can still get you this flustered, even after so many years" he smiled with amusement. I got up from where I was sat, "You'll get me flustered even when I'm an old lady" I muttered. "That's the plan" he grinned.
A freshly showered Oscar was proving to be the bane of my existence like out of the gym Oscar was. I wanted to jump him, but it didn't feel right and I wasn't taking advantage of him like this. The way to the paddock was filled with casual talk. Who knew Oscar could talk. At the paddock, we greeted the other drivers and fans we saw along the way. The McLaren hospitality was bustling with both pole and P2 starts were McLaren's. I tried to speak to their race engineers to gauge the strategy but I wasn't allowed. I even tried to talk to Lando and Oscar about the race, but they were busy discuss the details amongst themselves to pay much attention. I spent the majority of my time trying to figure out what I was supposed to do to change the scenario. I wanted Oscar to win but not with the mess McLaren created.
As the race progressed, like I had watched it play out. I realised, I wasn't meant to change the process or outcome. I was just here because I hoped and prayed to be able to comfort Oscar and celebrate his win like I hoped he was supposed to enjoy his first win. I watched McLaren fuck it up whilst I stood there next to him. I heard Oscar apologise for the second time, shattering my heart again. I rushed to see Oscar with the staff in tow. Oscar got out of the car and looked around, our eyes met. He came running with his helmet in hand, "I won" he whispered, only for me to hear. "I saw" I replied with tears in my eyes. "I'm so proud of you. You've come so far Oscar. You're the Hungarian Grand Prix winner, don't apologise for your win whatever it may be" I whispered. Oscar's face inches from mine, his eyes glistening with tears at what I said, "I love you, Y/N Y/L/N" he said out loud while wrapping his free arm around my waist and pulling me in for a kiss. The kiss was a mixture of tears and sweat, since the two of us had started crying. I cupped his cheeks, deepening the kiss, our emotions were all over the place. "Go and get your trophy, I'll wait for you" I said while pulling away from the kiss. "Be right back" he grinned and left to get weighed.
The podium celebration was bitter sweet, but I was not gonna let this over shadow his win and do what I was here for. I quickly got flowers delivered to the hotel and some sweets. I waited for Oscar to be done with the media and stuff while scrolling through my phone. The discourse was on another level, but the pictures of me and Oscar kissing were circulating every where. I wish I could take this back with me. Oscar's mum called and we were on the phone for a while. My parents called us to congratulate him as well. It felt so weird to hear Oscar was my boyfriend.
Oscar found me in his drivers room. "There's my grand prix winner" I stated. Oscar wrapped his arms around my waist, lifting me up in the process. My hands stabilised myself on his shoulders. "I'm so happy we got to celebrate this together" he mumbled against my skin. "Me too" I muttered. "By the way, your mum called. You should talk to her later" I said urging Oscar to put me down. "Are you angry with me?" he asked, placing me on the ground. "What? no" I replied. "You've been calling me Oscar or nothing at all the whole day. I didn't think much of it before but now you said your mum when you normally say mum" I was caught off guard, "It's nothing like that" I tried to diffuse the situation. "My mum texted me too about your win and yours called. I just wanted to clarify" I said. "Oh" he hummed. "Now, let's go. Let's have a Oscar Piastri worthy celebration" I continued. "Like what" he asked. "Dinner in bed and a movie of your choosing." I answered. "Finally, I get to choose." he laughed.
We got back to the hotel, where there were quite a few flowers. I may have gone over board. We entered the room which looked like a botanical garden at this point. Oscar smiled taking the scene in. "For me" he whispered. "For you" I whispered back. "I wanted to show you how much I love you and how proud of you I was. This is just a small token of my happiness Osc" I said. "You're the reason Lando calls me Osc. Find a new nickname. I don't like sharing it with him. But thank you for this" he remarked. "Sure darling" I announced. He walked through smelling all the flowers. We spent the rest of the night watching a movie Oscar had picked and eating our hearts content.
I was scared to fall asleep, what if I woke up back where I was supposed to be. What if this 'reality' ceased to exist? As my eyes got heavy, keeping them open was a task. Oscar had started succumbing to sleep having switched the TV off. "Thank you for making my day even more special then it was." He mumbled. "Thank you for letting me show how loved and appreciated you are. I love you Oscar. Today, tomorrow and always." I whispered kissing his forehead; letting sleep take me. If I woke up back in my world, so be it. At least I made Oscar's day.
When my eyes opened to the bright sun shining from my window, no Oscar in sight. A silent tear fell from my eye. I wiped it away. Happy that at the very least I was able to heal my heart, and maybe his in another universe.
my heart wanted to write this for a while

I’ve noticed that no one seems to have pointed this out yet and I hate to be the one to do it, but I think we need to fully accept the level of manipulation in play on Sunday.
McLaren went into that race planning they would not swap positions after the 2nd pitstop. If you were leading at the second pit stop, you could win the race.
This is supported by the radio message to Lando of “you are free to race till mid 40s range”.
Everyone talks about Oscar taking the lead but no one seems to remember Max refused to let Lando past till lap 7. By this point Oscar had had the chance to build a lead. So by lap 8 the team are telling Lando his fight was with Max.
Approaching the 2nd pitstop Oscar has an off and Lando is eating into Oscar’s lead, he is on the cusp of getting into Oscar’s DRS.
So the team pit Lando first.
Now I’ve heard several variations of why this was wrong. He had no one really to cover off, Oscar was first on the road. Whoever pitted first was going to get the benefit.
Why now with all the knowledge we have does it feel like they pitted Lando because they couldn’t risk him overtaking Oscar before the 2nd pitstop?
Lando is historically strong as hell in the last third of the race. What happened was always going to happen. Lando would be quicker. It’s why Red Bull went for the tyre delta with Max.
I can’t help but feel Lando knew what the team had done and his driving off wasn’t petulance, wasn’t disrespect to Oscar. It was a message to McLaren, you have actively stopped me winning this race! You have not just issued team orders, you have manipulated them.
It would make sense of Will’s radio message. “He can’t catch you. You’ve made your point”.
The unexpected consequence for McLaren was they then handled this as bad as they possibly could. The manipulative radio messages. Then being seen to actively force a driver to give up a nearly 7 second lead in order to honour what they had agreed pre race. The PR fall out is still ongoing. From the live commentary, to the fans, now the written media is piling on them.
If you want further proof this is the root of what happened on Sunday you have Will telling Lando “as we discussed this morning, plenty more opportunities”.
Oscar apologising “sorry I made that swap more painful than it needed to be. But thank you I appreciate that”.
Then there were the caps. That they miraculously just happened to have with them.
The point of this isn’t to try and blame either driver. They both did the best with what they were given. The issue is, I’m not sure I feel comfortable with either driver being subjected to this for “the good of the team”.
The final straw has to be Stella’s comment “you are either a team player or you can’t be a member of McLaren Formula One Team”. I’m willing to give him some leeway with trying to find the right words in English, but still the implication is clear.
Oscar and Lando have to accept McLaren’s terms or they will be gone.
The way I feel right now. They would be both better off gone, as the team seems incapable of a race strategy from lights out to chequered flag that covers every eventuality.
As I pointed out to someone who was complaining about Lando not spraying Oscar first. No he went to drown the Head of Strategy who was on the podium with them. Given this season. Justified! I’m just surprised he didn’t throw the bottle at him as well!!!

My hot takes on this gp:
1) Donald Trump thing
Edit: I might rewrite this ‘cause I’ve been thinking about it a little bit more.
I know that it was not right of Lando to say nice things about Trump, but I also know that him and all the other drivers on the grid are completely PR indoctrinated, and I sincerely believe that he just went with what the team told him to say.
In top of that, I also sincerely think that he wasn’t thinking at all about his own words with all the adrenaline of the win, which might not be a complete justification, but it’s still a reason why he would say those things.
Apart from that, I also feel like I can’t talk about this in primis because it’s not something I’m an expert in, so this is merely my opinion.
2) Carlos’ penalty
First of all, can we all appreciate the show him and Oscar put on? Incredible racing, just top quality, so so beautiful, I got the chills for every single lap and held my breath every time Carlos tried to make a move and Oscar just closed the doors for him.
I loved it a lot.
Second of all, I won’t say if the penalty was deserved or not ‘cause I’m not a steward or anything, but what I do want to say is that Oscar did indeed push Carlos off the track at first (that doesn’t mean that Oscar is a bad driver, I’m just stating the obvious).
On top of that, Checo not receiving a single penalty for that basically “dive-bombing” is… I don’t even have the words for that, really.
And it’s not only them but also Lewis’ move during the sprint that basically took Lando and Lance out both and finished Fernando’s race.
So, maybe, when these things happen together, you start really thinking that when Fernando Alonso says “Because he is not a Spaniard” then maybe he might be right, you know?
3) Carlos saying that he was frustrated with Oscar
It is like- the most normal thing he could say?
He said the same exact thing about Daniel in the sprint! He appreciates their skills, but obviously got frustrated that he could not get past them (in Daniel’s case, literally, in Oscar’s case, because of a penalty).
He never said he hated Oscar, he never said anything similar, and neither did Oscar! If they did on the radio, then please go in and be calm on a radio in a car going around 200kpmh while fighting another car, let’s see what you can do.
They were both really calm after the stewards’ office and they did not say anything bad about each other anymore, why do you feel the need to stir unnecessary drama all the freaking time?
Carlos even went to the McLaren garage to congratulate the engineers. And for those who are saying “he should apologise to Oscar”, uh, no? Why would he?
It’s the sport, it’s how it works! I sincerely think that Oscar would be more offended if Carlos went and apologised to him for that, ‘cause that’s racing. And also, if you’re thinking like that, then Oscar should also apologise for pushing him off the track and almost causing him a proper incident.
But they don’t apologise because it’s racing, simple as that.
Good God, just please think twice before writing hateful comments about Carlos or Oscar.

loscar prompt!: them with tis the damn season by taylor swift
’tis the damn season (LS2 x OP81)
oscar comes back to his hometown, with a regret he can’t find closure to. w/c: 3402 day 41 of loscar posts until we get a loscar podium! (series masterlist) masterlist title from a taylor swift song a/n: HI! whoever gave me this, if this isn’t what you wanted PLEASE do not be afraid to reach out and ask for a rewrite lol!!!
Oscar drives down the street he used to walk past every day. The town he used to call home seems a little emptier now. It’s freezing, which fogs up his car windshield glass, turning it a foggy, translucent colour.
He gets out of his car after parking it, deciding to go for a stroll.
Oscar can’t remember the last time he came back here, it had probably been a few years. He throws on his coat and walks down the sidewalk, as he lifts his head, a familiar face comes into view.
Oscar avoids eye contact as he walks past, keeping his head down as he walks past him. It sends a shiver down his spine as he walks past; even with his jacket an eerie cold engulfs his body.
An ache covers his heart. Oscar wants to say something. He can’t.
He swiftly walks past, trying his best to suppress the flashbacks that keep coming back as the familiar perfume clings onto his jacket after walking past him.
Oscar can’t do this. He takes off, bolting as far as he can. He feels the eyes on him, piercing into his soul.
Oscar remembers everything. He remembers it all.
—
“You promised.” Logan says, an obvious attempt to hide his tears, “You said you wouldn’t go.”
“Logan. I know, but it’s a really big opportunity for me.” Oscar tries to reason, with both Logan and himself.
“You said you’d wait for me.” Logan continues, a pool of tears brimming in his eyes.
“Logan… I will.” Oscar almost feels like he’s gaslighting himself right now.
“We should’ve been going together.” Logan cries, a heavy emphasis on ‘together’.
“Logan please-” Oscar gets cut off as Logan runs out through the door.
That was the last time they ever talked. Oscar didn’t even bother going back to apologise. He just left… like the jerk he was.
—
When the coast is clear, Oscar walks back to his car, quickly getting in without being seen.
He takes a deep breath and leans back against his car seat.
He quickly starts up his car and drives further into the city, something in his body wants him to leave but he isn’t ready to leave yet.
He reaches somewhere nearer to the city, it has cafes, restaurants, libraries. It’s a simple life, which Oscar will admit he misses sometimes.
He gets out of his car, walking on a sidewalk which he vividly remembers used to be a mud path. They’ve really refurbished the place.
As he strolls around the place, looking back on the places he used to visit so often, and the people he used to always talk to.
Oscar can’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia hit him.
“Oscar?” his voice rings through and Oscar stones.
Oscar slowly turns around and comes face to face with the person he used to know and love.
He’s grown a lot by now, stubble and all. He’s definitely taller and slightly more buff, guess he’s been working out.
He’s so much more… matured.
One thing hasn’t changed. His smile.
It’s still… perfect. The smile that Oscar always loved, the things Oscar would do to see that smile forever. He missed that smile, he’s been missing that smile.
“Hi.” Oscar says as he gulps.
“I didn’t know you were coming back.” He smiles.
“Yea… uhm, well. Here I am.” Oscar manages. He’s not used to being this awkward.
“You have anywhere to stay?”
“My parents.”
“Cool.”
“I gotta… uhm head off.” Oscar says as he quickly walks past him and back into the car.
Oscar drives off.
He turns on the radio, hoping the music would dissolve his thoughts.
They don’t.
Everything they used to do together comes back. They stay afloat, no matter how much Oscar tries to push them down.
All the moments they shared, the memories they had.
The inevitable question finally surfaces in Oscar’s head.
Who replaced me?
“Shut up.” Oscar mutters to himself as he turns into his parents’ house driveway.
Stepping out, he’s greeted with a multitude of hugs. He chuckles as he returns the hugs to his parents.
“Ozzie!” His parents’ affectionate nickname.
They bring him into the house, letting him place his bags down.
“I’ll go get the cookies.” His mother says, “Make yourself comfortable.”
Oscar walks to the display case, it’s probably all really old stuff. It is.
It’s photos of young Oscar with young Logan. They’re happy, innocent, naive. Oscar places his hand on the display cabinet, slightly grazing his hands over the photo.
They were just teenagers when Oscar left like that, how horrible it must’ve been on Logan.
All those memories, the moments they shared, the experiences they shared, everything they shared just shattered to pieces because Oscar was too afraid to face his nightmares.
The road not taken looks real good now.
Oscar feels a wave of regret wash over him. As much as he hates it, he remembers everything all too well, crystal clear in his head.
“He’s not mad at you anymore.” His mother says.
“What?” Oscar asks as he turns around, quickly wiping the tears off.
“I don’t think Logan’s mad at you for leaving like that anymore.”
“He isn’t?” Oscar steps closer.
His mother just shrugs.
Oscar takes one of the cookies from the plate and eats it. He takes a seat on the couch, staring into blank space.
His mother sets the plate of cookies in front of him and sits next to him.
“You should talk to him.”
“I can’t.” Oscar mutters, “I just can’t. I betrayed him, I can’t just go up to him again.”
“Logan won’t hold grudges.”
“He doesn’t look like he does, but I know he holds them close to his heart.” Oscar rants, “I know he doesn’t just ‘recover’ from me leaving without saying goodbye properly.”
Oscar’s mother places one hand on his shoulder.
“Logan hates me.”
His mother takes a deep breath before revealing.
“Logan hasn’t found anyone else.”
Oscar almost freezes.
“He hasn’t gotten any new best friends or… anything like that.” She says, “It’s always been ‘I’ll be waiting for when Oscar comes back’.”
“What?”
“Logan hasn’t replaced you.”
“He hasn’t?”
His mother shakes her head.
Oscar doesn’t know what to think.
“Still has those photos of you two.” His mother says.
He does?
“I’ll talk to him… soon.” Oscar says. He doesn’t know when “soon” is but he knows it’s going to happen.
—
Oscar wakes up at 11am. It’s probably the latest he’s woken up in a few years. He looks into the ceiling.
He spent half his night thinking about Logan, thinking about him and Logan. He misses Logan’s smile, more than ever.
It takes him pretty long to get his morning routine out of the way before he goes down for food.
“You should go out for lunch.” His mother suggests, “Explore the city a little.”
Oscar nods as he picks out an apple and chews it.
He grabs his stuff and walks out the door, bidding goodbye first before walking toward the city. He’s decided not to use his car.
He reaches the city centre in a few minutes, it’s packed and busy. Oscar just brisk walks around the centre, finding somewhere which looks appetising.
God forbid he gets any peace because he runs into Logan almost immediately.
“Good morning.” Logan waves.
Oscar awkwardly flashes a smile, “Hello.”
“Where you headin’ to?”
“Finding somewhere to eat.” Oscar tries to maintain his calm composure.
Logan nods and smiles, “Okay.”
“Want to join me?” Oscar blurts.
Wait. What.
Oscar takes a few seconds to process the fact that he just invited Logan out for lunch.
Logan smiles, “Sure. Why not.”
Damn.
“Do you know anywhere nice?” Oscar smiles, “Haven’t been here in a while.”
Wow. What a horrible joke.
Logan’s smile clearly falters for a bit.
“I know somewhere.” Logan says, bringing Oscar to a restaurant.
It’s not any diner, it’s the one where Oscar brought Logan out.
Oscar can feel his heart clench.
“I remember this.” Oscar chuckles, but the chuckle feels forced.
Logan nods and opens the door for Oscar, letting him walk in first… just like Oscar did.
Both of them sit opposite each other at a table.
Oscar clears his throat, in an effort to disperse the tension building up… or maybe it might be just him.
“I’m sorry.” Oscar says softly.
Logan looks up from the menu, smiling slightly.
“I shouldn’t have left like that.” Oscar continues, the flashbacks replaying vividly, “It was a dick move.”
“It’s okay.” Logan says back.
“No.” Oscar takes a deep breath, “Please.”
Logan places the menu down as Oscar reaches for his hand.
Logan doesn’t shift his hand away, he lets Oscar touch it.
“I’m really sorry.” Oscar holds Logan’s hand, “I destroyed your life.”
Logan shakes his head as he holds Oscar’s hand.
“I’m happy for you Osc.”
Osc.
“I’ll pay for your lunch.” Oscar says, “Least I could do.”
“We can call it even then.” Logan jokes.
It’s a good joke but Oscar can’t bring himself to laugh, he doesn’t really know if Logan has gotten over it or not.
—
When their food arrives, Oscar’s too preoccupied staring at Logan to start eating. Logan hasn’t changed at all.
All Oscar sees is that small teenager which Oscar destroyed in seconds.
Oscar feels like crying, he can feel the tears brimming.
Oscar circles his food with his fork, not eating any of it.
“Are you not hungry?” Logan asks.
“I’m… thinking.” Oscar says.
The years in the spotlight changed Oscar, for the better or for the worse.
“Of?” Logan inquires further.
Oscar can’t form a reply, so he just shrugs.
Oscar doesn’t get many moments to think, he sort of just goes with the flow. Everything’s so fast paced and it all sometimes blurs. Nothing feels real out there, all his “friends” are really just people who will leech off him when he becomes famous.
He’s faked so many smiles, he doesn’t know which ones are real anymore.
Logan shrugs back before placing his hand over Oscar’s clenched fist “Well, you should eat.”
Oscar smiles. This one is real, he knows it.
Logan hasn’t changed.
The lunch ends quicker than Oscar would like.
“Do you… maybe want to eat together for dinner too?” Oscar asks as he walks out the diner with Logan.
Logan nods, “Sure.”
“Where do you stay, I’ll come pick you.” Oscar asks.
“Same place.” Logan replies.
Oscar almost freezes.
“Still… down the street?” Oscar asks and Logan nods.
“5pm.” Logan says, “I’ll be waiting.”
Logan bids Oscar farwell, giving him a pat on the shoulder and a slight hug before running off.
Oscar can feel his entire face flush red. He’s missed Logan. Everyone else in the world couldn’t compare.
He runs home.
—
Oscar is left with his thoughts for a few hours.
Logan’s not changed, everything else has changed, Oscar feels his heart beat faster every time anything reminds him of Logan.
They used to be in love. It can’t be happening again… right?
Oscar hasn’t felt love in a long time, since everything comes and goes so quickly, nothing is really constant, which includes anyone he’s ever tried to date.
Oscar doesn’t understand his own feelings anymore.
He’s only coming back for a week, he can’t possibly get together again and then break his heart again.
Oscar doesn’t get it.
He hates that he doesn’t get it.
—
5pm inches closer and Oscar has never spent this long deciding on an outfit.
He decides to go with casual wear, which is a sweater and long baggy pants. He grabs his stuff and walks out the door to his car.
He starts it up and drives off Logan's house.
It takes him a few minutes to get there. As he approaches, he sees Logan waiting by the sidewalk. It’s just like they used to do, except Oscar’s mum would be the one driving.
In Oscar’s eyes, Logan is still the teenager Oscar destroyed.
Logan gets into the front seat, right next to Oscar.
Oscar smiles as Logan gets in.
“Anywhere you’d like to go?” Oscar asks as he drives.
“Go somewhere, get takeout, sit by the lake and eat.” Logan says.
Oscar can swear Logan is playing with his heart. These are all the things Oscar would do with Logan.
Oscar nods.
“Okay.”
They get takeout and stop by the lake, both of them sitting on the trunk of Oscar’s car.
They eat in silence for a while, Oscar catches the occasional glance at Logan. The orange glow of the sunset makes Logan sparkle.
Oscar shifts closer to Logan and Logan notices it.
“How’s it been?” Logan asks, placing his food next to him.
“It’s…” Oscar thinks, “Been okay.”
Logan nods, “Mine too.”
Oscar knows it’s now or never, “I’ve missed this.”
Logan raises an eyebrow.
“I can’t stop thinking about how I left you.”
Logan nods subtly.
“It’s horrible, it’s been haunting me.” Oscar looks into the sunset, “Believe me I’ve been looking for closure everywhere, nothing has given it to me.”
“And what will?”
“I don’t know… but it still is.” Oscar can’t believe he’s admitting all of this.
Everything Oscar has done just led back to Logan and this stupid place. Oscar’s attempts at finding closure have failed miserably, each making him yearn for it more and more.
Logan nudges himself closer to Oscar and pulls Oscar’s head into his chest. Oscar can feel his cheeks heating up as his heart picks up the pace and butterflies flutter in his stomach.
Oscar sobs.
Logan continues hugging Oscar.
“Logan please…” Oscar says as he hugs Logan back tightly.
“I forgive you Oscar.” Logan says, “I’ve missed you too.”
“I still love you…” Oscar whispers.
Logan nods, which is a sign for Oscar to hug Logan tighter.
“I’ll be yours for this week.” Oscar says and Logan smiles.
“I’ll fix everything.” Oscar says between soft sobs.
Logan pulls Oscar back in.
A few minutes pass and Oscar finally gains back his ability to speak in full sentences.
“What now?” Logan asks.
“We could… go for a drive, in my car… and talk about life.”
Logan smiles and nods, hopping off the trunk. Both of them get into the car and Oscar drives off.
He can’t help but catch a glance at Logan every opportunity he gets. Logan’s never looked better.
Everything brought him back to Logan. Everything he’s tried made him yearn for Logan again.
Now he’s got him back (for the week).
—
“Stay with me for tonight?” Logan suggests.
Oscar nods as he texts his mum about his updated night plans, he quickly drives home to get his clothes and all.
After that, they continue driving around for a bit as Logan talks about how he’s been and all Oscar’s focusing on is Logan’s little smile he has every time he says anything.
Oscar feels Logan’s head fall onto his shoulder and he melts. He feels like a teenager all over again, he’s reignited some old spark which he’s tried to hide for years.
When they finally reach Logan’s house, they both prepare for bed as the night sky gets darker.
Logan throws another pillow onto his bed for Oscar and Oscar feels like his legs might just fail him at any moment. At least Logan will catch him.
They both get onto the bed and Oscar feels like he’s in high school again. He shifts closer to Logan and feels Logan’s warm arms wrapping around him.
Logan pulls Oscar closer in and they hug. The warmest bed ever, the warmest hug ever. For so many years, he’s been hugging but they’ve all been cold and emotionless.
He missed Logan’s hug. He missed Logan’s touch.
“I’ve missed this.” Oscar whispers as Logan chuckles softly. He feels Logan’s warm breath graze his skin.
Oscar melts.
“Goodnight.” Oscar says.
“Goodnight babe.” Logan says and Oscar feels his heart pound against his ribcage.
“You too Logs.”
—
It’s 11am again when Oscar wakes up. It’s his best night since he left Logan.
“I should’ve never left.” Oscar says groggily as he hugs Logan’s waist.
Logan woke up hours ago but stayed with Oscar.
Oscar doesn’t deserve this, he cuddles with Logan. Logan lets him do his thing while chuckling softly.
This is teenage love all over again.
“I don’t ever want to leave.” Oscar mumbles.
“Then don’t.” Logan says.
Oscar wants that too, but he knows he can’t break Logan’s heart a second time. He’s not willing to, he knows Logan deserves so much better.
Teenage love burns strong like tinder, but it’ll burn out fast.
They’ll fall apart again and Oscar will break Logan all over again.
“Can’t.” Oscar says.
The mood of the room darkens but Logan just smiles and chuckles.
“I know, baby.” Logan sighs but still keeping a smile, “I know.”
—
The week is filled with emotional nostalgia, Oscar brought Logan out every day to every place, to fix every scar and to heal every wound.
They kissed in the moonlight, in the sunset. Oscar made sure he didn’t drop Logan’s heart again.
“I’ve always loved you.” Logan says, “I never stopped.”
Oscar can feel time slow down and everything else becomes irrelevant.
“You never stopped?” Oscar says softly, and Logan nods.
“I never did either.” Oscar smiles.
“Love you.” Logan says.
Everything closed up properly, their chapters ending on high notes and the pages not burning up.
The emotional baggage was dropped where they left them.
Long story short, they re-lived all their moments, but Oscar made sure he didn’t mess up the end this time.
Here was the end.
Oscar throws his luggage into his car’s trunk. The week passed by just like that.
“It’s time to go.” Logan says, giving Oscar a slight nudge as Oscar closes the trunk of his car.
Oscar smiles, it’s bittersweet. Logan smiles at him, as Oscar holds back his tears.
“Osc.” Logan says and Oscar looks up, “I won’t ask you to wait for me anymore.”
Oscar knows what this means to both of them.
“Then I won’t ask you to stay here for me.” Oscar replies.
It feels like the final end, the chapter which Oscar had always needed to write but couldn’t. The words in the final paragraph which always stabbed Oscar.
“Follow me to the exit.” Oscar says and Logan agrees.
Oscar’s family joins them.
Oscar drives to the exit of the town, passing through a place which used to haunt him and the place where he first saw Logan, where the ache was ever so present in his heart.
Oscar feels Logan’s hand touch his shoulder and Oscar holds back the tears.
As they approach the exit, Oscar’s family and Logan exit the car. Oscar bids his final farewells to them. Oscar’s mother winks at Oscar before giving him and Logan time.
“I’ll miss you.” Oscar admits.
“I’ll miss you too.” Logan replies.
Logan places both his hands on Oscar’s shoulders, pulling him in for a hug.
“Don’t forget me again. You have my number now.” Logan chuckles.
“I won’t…” Oscar replies, he shuffles his feet.
“Goodbye Oscar.” Logan says, hugging him tightly.
“I never thought I’d get a goodbye.” Oscar says, tears flowing out.
Logan chuckles and kisses Oscar’s forehead.
“Goodbye Logs.”
Oscar turns around and he feels a sting in his heart, like he wants to stay.
He gets into his car.
His life will continue, he’s closed the chapter for this, he’s gotten his closure with Logan.
Logan.
Logan who knew which smiles were faked and which smiles were real.
Logan who knew everything about Oscar.
Logan who knew Oscar better than he knew himself.
Logan who only wanted the best for Oscar.
Oscar smiles again as he looks at his feet, walking toward his car.
Everything just led back to Logan didn’t it.
Oscar stops, before turning around and running back to Logan for another hug.
Logan hugs him tightly, giving him one final kiss on the lips before they part ways.
“I’ll come back.” Oscar says, in tears.
Logan nods, “I know you will.”
It’s a bittersweet moment for them.
Oscar gets into his car and Logan waves goodbye to him as he drives off.
It finally felt like closure, like all the ache and sorrows had been drowned in love. It was their season.
’tis the damn season that left Oscar with a healed heart.

Fearless -O.P⁸¹
Not edited or proofread
This took forever and I apologise
Warnings: overuse of words cause I cba to find synonyms , I took lyrics out so its choppy at some parts
I want to thank @rinna0017 for telling me Oscar is fearless by Taylor swift coded because yes he is
Wc:1.5k
There's something about the way
The street looks when it's just rained
Oscar and Y/n were enjoying day three of seven in Portugal , the weather had been great the whole time they'd been there . Well that was until they planned to actually go somewhere and then it rained cats and dogs , but when you're a young couple in love nothing can put you in a bad mood
The pair couldn't stop giggling as they tried to either find some tree to hide under or a hideaway to duck under until the rain stopped
There's a glow off the pavement
Any oil that had leaked onto the pavements before the northern downpour were displaying all the colours of the rainbow as it mixed with the rain water , which made for a pretty sight
You walk me to the car
Oscar was in more of a rush to get to the rental car , probably due to his expensive clothing, practically dragging her
"C'mon baby we're gonna get soaked if you don't hurry up" he basically pleaded as he turned to look back at her
"It's only rain oscar, it's not going to kill you" she said with a laugh
As they approached the quaint Mini Cooper they had rented opting for a car that wouldn't stand out unlike the McLaren's he was used to
And you know I wanna ask you to dance right there
In the middle of the parking lot, yeah
Oscar was confused at first when he opened the passenger door for his girlfriend to get in , but she just put her stuff on the seat and closed the door . As he caught her eyes to question her he saw her stood like the confused emoji(🤷🏻♀️) hands up and a head tilt, of course he knew what this meant as he'd been in this situation before
"We're not dancing in the rain again"
"It was fun last time don't lie , you just want to go back to the hotel and watch Ozark" she accused
"Okay maybe I do , but don't act like Jason Bateman isn't your celebrity crush" he retorted as she laughed knowing it was true
We're drivin' down the road, I wonder if you know
I'm trying so hard not to get caught up now
Y/n will admit that she was one hundred percent ogling/admiring her boyfriend from the passenger seat , but who wouldn't that white shirt was doing wonders for him
"It's a good thing I don't ever let you drive , you'd crash 'cause you're too busy looking at me" he laughed feeling her eyes bore a hole in the side of his head
"Some people take it as a compliment y'know having their girlfriend think they're hot" she tried to sound serious/annoyed, but couldn't help but crack a smile
"You think I'm hot?" He questioned turning to her with a classic "I hate you" with a shake of the head and a grin
But you're just so cool, run your hands through your hair
Absentmindedly makin' me want you
Everyone knows that one of the hottest things a guy can do is run his hand through his hair subconsciously, so when he did it before putting his hand on the back of her headrest her heart nearly stopped due to how hot those two actions were together
Truth be told if she was in that drivers seat they would be parked far enough away from anyone walking by and if anyone from the authorities questioned them they'd claim they didn't know the laws in Portugal
And I don't know how it gets better than this
How could life possibly get any better than driving down some country road wind in her hair , sun shining , her boyfriend beside her , and some Taylor Swift love song playing on the radio as they sang along
"Are you sure we can't just stay here forever?" She asked looking over at him
"I wish, but we both know you'd get bored in a week" he said with a smile and a playful shove in her direction
"Depends if you talk to me about cricket or not "
That statement earned her a scoff and a " don't lie you love it " from the man next to her as she laughed along . She didn't mean it in a mean way , everyone has one subject that they can and will talk about with someone even if they don't care or like it
You take my hand and drag me
headfirst, fearless
The car came to an abrupt stop and
Y/n was confused as to why he'd stopped and where they were , well that was until she looked around and out of the window as he was getting out that she realised they were at a beach that they'd seen what they assumed were other tourists on the first day who looked like they were having the times of their lives dancing a long to music and chatting or sunbathing and taking it all in
"When you said we were going to come back to this beach, I'd assumed it was going to be when the weather was nice"
"Don't act like you don't want to have a fearless moment right now" he beamed at her as he lead her out of the car and down the boardwalk
"You know me so well" she said basically running behind as he dragged her
And I don't know why but with you I'd dance
In a storm in my best dress, fearless
As they swayed in the heavy rain and powerful wind Y/n realised that she wouldn't want to dance in her best most favourite dress with anyone else , he is also the only person she'd run through an airport for but that's a different conversation
It was a stupid thing to do and both parties knew it would probably lead to a cold in the following days , but they couldn't have cared less in the moment , cause when life starts to feel like a Taylor Swift song suddenly nothing else matters , and even if they did get sick Oscar had been meaning to catch up on some Netflix show anyway so it was a win win situation
After about 2 and a half minutes when the giggles and adrenaline had wore off and the cold and wind were starting to affect them , they made a run for the rental as they tried not to slip and tumble over curbs on the way
So baby drive slow 'til we run out of road
In this one-horse town, I wanna stay right here
Back roads had quickly became on of their favourite places and today was no different , they had to drive slower than usual due to the rain (top tips) but they didn't have anywhere to be so they could easily spend all day driving in circles round and round just basking in each others company
"Are you sure they can't just let you race exclusively in Portugal forever?" Y/n said looking out the window at the beautiful scenery
"You say this to every place we visit" he chuckled " we can always come back for summer break" he tried to bargain
"I will be holding you to that Piastri"
She said pointing an accusing finger at him
In this passenger seat, you put your eyes on me
In this moment, now capture it, remember it
The sight of him looking at her with the utmost adoration, as they made their way back to the hotel because it was getting late , she knew she had to capture it and probably post it on her Instagram account later or just keep it to herself until his birthday or he did something worth celebrating either way she knew she needed to have a photograph of it
"No paparazzi" he said covering the lenses with his palm with the biggest grin on his face knowing it was such a bad joke but he said it everytime his girlfriend would try to take a video or photo of him
Well, you stood there with me in the doorway
My hands shake, I'm not usually this way
After a long day of being fools in love they arrived back at the hotel they had called home for the last few days . Y/n couldn't help but stare at the button up he was wearing and how he had the sleeves rolled up and the top couple buttons undone (an almost deathly combination to any woman)
"You know you don't have to stare at me until I make the first move ? You can just kiss me whenever" he half joked
But you pull me in and I'm a little more brave
Despite him saying that he was the first to make a move , but she was definitely the more eager of the two and desperately wanted out of those wet clothes one way or another
It's the first kiss, it's flawless, really somethin'
It wasn't the first kiss they shared or even the first of the day, probably the first in half an hour , but that didn't make it any less special and exciting as they stepped into the elevator and headed to their room

Oscar Piastri x Reader: (CW: f1 crash (non descriptive), angst, fight)
One day you’re gonna need me and i’m not gonna be there to fix it
Keep fighting, i can’t lose you.

“Oscar!” Y/N called from the bedroom. “Can you come here a minute?”
“Sure, darling, what’s wrong?” Oscar walked into his bedroom that he shared with his partner, smiling when he saw them on their phone in their bed.
“I saw Alpine’s announcement. Congrats! Can’t believe I’ve signed so many NDAs and you still couldn’t tell me!” Y/N looked up with their excitement evident. Working as an Alpine race engineer meant that they couldn’t wait to eventually be talking to their boyfriend over the radio.
“What? What did Alpine announce?” Oscar looks so confused. Yes he is the reserve driver for Alpine, but he hasn’t extended anything with Alpine, unless it was a sponsor announcement, but he didn’t think he’d announced any of those either.
“Oscar…what… Alpine announced that you’re driving for them to replace Alonso. I’m going to be your race engineer! What…why are you looking at me like that?” Y/N’s smile started to fade, their confusion evident. They could see that Oscar wasn’t comprehending what they were saying.
“Because… I’m not driving for Alpine next year. I’m driving for McLaren.” Oscar looked at his partner in confusion. What was Otmar on? Yes there had been some contract negotiations and honestly Oscar and Mark hadn’t been able to find any fault in the contract. It was just that what McLaren had offered was a lot better. And their data looked better.
“But…both Daniel and Lando have contracts for next year and Alpine just announced the damn thing. What do you mean you’re leaving me for McLaren?” Y/N’s face looked like they were about to cry
“I haven’t signed any contract with Alpine… I- I need to talk to Mark, I need to sort this out.” Oscar pulls his phone out of the charger and sees that he’s already had about 10 missed calls from Mark - considering it’s about 5am where he is, this is a slight surprise. Although maybe not, considering how big of a fuck up this is. Then Y/N’s last words dawned on him.
“I-I’m not leaving you for McLaren. You’ll always be my girlfriend, regardless of what team I’m driving for.” Oscar started panicking as he saw tears starting to fall down Y/N’s face as they furiously tried to rub them away. They then got up from the bed and started repacking their suitcase, not too hard considering they’d only arrived here last night.
“Really? How am I meant to make sure you’re safe when you’re driving for another team? Oscar, listen to me, one day you’re gonna need me and i’m not going to be there to fix it.” Y/N finished zipping up their bag and looked at Oscar. Both of them had tears streaming down their faces that they looked at each other before Y/N kissed Oscar softly on the lips and walked out.
—
Y/N saw the crash from the pitwall, but didn’t fully register what had happened until halfway through her message to Gasly ‘Box, box Pierre, red flag, it’s Oscar… sorry, it’s Oscar off.’
“Is he okay?” She could hear Pierre’s worry through his voice.
“No response yet, the team is working on it and the marshalls are working on getting him out, but his vitals appear okay, likely just unconscious from the crash.”
“Okay, copy, box box.” Similarly she could hear his resignation and determination as he came into the pitlane.
Y/N just sat there, listening to the rain pattering on the roof of the pitwall, feeling the tears fall down her face rapidly and her breaths becoming shallower. She could feel some people giving her a little comfort and rubbing her shoulders, nearly everyone had known about their relationship last year and nearly everyone knew how it had ended mid last year due to the chaos of Oscar’s contract woes.
Pierre came up and comforted her, but she refused to take her headphones off until she heard through the radio that the race had been abandoned to unsafe conditions, as it should’ve been hours ago.
When Y/N heard this she ran from the pit wall towards the medical centre. Everyone got out of her way, the exception being Mark, who had clearly been waiting outside the garage for her appearance, who also sprinted through the paddock with her to the medical centre, where a quick check of IDs had granted them access to Oscar’s room, where he had been left and they had been told to call a doctor or nurse should he wake up. Y/N pulled up the plastic chairs and sat next to Oscar’s bedside, as Mark excused himself to grab them both some coffee. She looked at Oscar and whispered, half choking on her words, voice cracking ‘Keep fighting, please Osc, I can’t lose you.’

the mclaren pitwall gaslighting norris by trying to make out his tyre management was bad was appalling enough, but them outright blackmailing him with the whole if you want to win a championship you'll need oscar's help and the team's helps was probably the most atrocious bits of team to driver radio i have heard in 25 years of watching the sport. especially to a driver who they already know struggles with imposter syndrome and self-esteem because he has openly talked about it. i can't remember the last time i've been so disgusted by a race engineer and team principal.
then add to that to have fucked up so badly that piastri felt the need to apologise over team radio at the end of the race because he couldn't keep up in the final stint, instead of fully celebrating as he should be. and people all over social media hating on one or other driver (mainly Norris but I've seen some at Piastri too) when the only people to blame are the McLaren pitwall.
SAY 🎤 IT 🎤 LOUDER 🎤
this is what angers me the most, fucking hell we all know how hard lando is on himself, we all know he’s been getting so much shit for not getting p1 in every race with the fastest car on grid currently AND them pulling this manipulative stunt on him is just atrocious. don’t even get me started on “doesn’t matter” thing when lando fairly pointed out that they should’ve let oscar pit first - this clear dismissal is so disrespectful, i’m ready to fight that guy if he drops his location.
oh, oscar :( that radio was heartbreaking - i thought we might hear some cheers, some excitement and instead we got his apologies (and i get that he’s not overly reactive in general, but “sorry” was definitely not what i expected/wanted to hear)
AND that message from Zach? “that decision might looked controversial” like buddy, nothing looks controversial here, you just got everything wrong my dude

If we really get into it, Lando didn’t even initially ask for team orders. So many messages weren’t broadcasted vs the ones that were. If you listen to the onboard radio:
On lap 20, his race engineer tells him to stop pushing and not risk his tires and Lando responds he’s not pushing at all.
The next thing that is said between them is on lap 21. Lando’s engineer radios him that because of tire age, Oscar will not make it difficult for him when he catches up to him(nothing was said to Oscar on his own radio at this time).
Lando doesn’t respond and the next communication to his engineer is on lap 22. Lando asks if George has pitted yet. Lando is informed George is on a one-stop and is a threat if Lando does not preserve his tires. Oscar is also informed that George is on a one-stop(and has still not been radioed to not make it difficult when Lando catches up.)
By lap 24 lando has the fastest lap, has caught up to Oscar, was told earlier that Oscar wouldn’t make it difficult, and is worried about his tires in dirty air because of George’s one-stop. This is when Lando tells his engineer the longer he spends behind, the worse the race will be for him.
On Lap 25, Oscars race engineer informs him the car behind is Lando, don’t make it difficult, they have different tire age.
A minute later Lando is once again told by his engineer that Oscar will not make it difficult for him. Oscar’s engineer radioes something to him but there was too much static for me to make out exactly what was said.
Lando attempts to pass Oscar at turn one but is shut down. Lando goes on the radio to ask what he’s doing, asks if you(the team) want George to beat us(never said “he” like it was written on the broadcast graphic). Lando’s race engineer informs him he’s working on it. Lando responds that he is quicker and in dirty air.
Lap 27, Oscar’s engineer instructs him to let Lando by at turn 1 and they swap positions. When all is said and done, Lando finishes the race with a 17+ second gap behind him and Oscar gets his first f1 podium.
This whole thing really blew up on such a happy day for the boys and the team. Wether or not they should have been allowed to fight it out is up to personal opinion. At the end of the day, the team makes those decisions and we got the best possible result. Oscar and Lando have both expressed that as their opinion on the matter.
People do love holding the drivers(some more than others) radios against them in such a high stress and high adrenaline environment.
Lando was already frustrated about Checo holding him back and costing him so much time, was told by the team, without even asking, that Oscar wouldn’t make it difficult for him, and was warned about George’s one-stop and the tire degradation. I think it’s okay that he was a little frustrated over the radio.
Oscar was not even told to not make it difficult until way after Lando was informed that he would. I consider that a failure of communication by the pit wall, not at the fault of either driver. I also think Oscar was in his right to hold his position until explicitly told not to. At the end of the day it’s a balance between team results and individual results and those are not always going to be prioritized equally. That’s just the way these races go.
Anyways I’m waffling now. I agree with everything you and the last anon you posted have said as well. So sorry about how long this is got🙈🧡
And there you have it folks. A completely normal swap of positions.
Thank you so much for going through the trouble of getting all of that context anon🧡
Never apologise to me for getting longwinded, i love reading peoples thoughts!

guess who just logged in!!! yes its me 🏁 anon!!! its like you summoned me fr. im sorry, i started my summer class and have been having to do stupid school work and i want to end it all BUT i have been seeing all the drama and am suffering being a mclaren fan now. its really embarrassing how mclaren acted over those radios, they need to get it together! who do they think they are?? ferrari ??? still so proud of the 1-2, they ate that up, and oscars win!!! it sucks that its getting overshadowed but all this mess (all mclarens fault, no blame on the drivers) but my best friend is coming to visit me this weekend and i havent seen her in forever (its been 2 months) we are planning on watching the race this weekend and im hoping that things are better this weekend. ANYWAY, how are you queen, how are you feeling about all this icky drama ?? - 🏁 anon <3
hi angel!! don’t ever apologise for being a boss and working hard <3
yeah I am one of many very embarrassed mclaren fans right now. just so… unnecessary. uncalled for. out of line. let’s hope spa is better (or else i’m going to have to evaluate my life choices lmao)
the thing that has gotten under my skin the most is the manipulation of lando and their lack of faith in him. I knew from the minute they asked that he’d give the place back, and I don’t even know the guy. he’s been a loyal teammate, always a team player, he’s been nothing but devoted to that team, and he really genuinely seems to respect oscar. he’s not going to mess that up, he never was. he was simply making a point and teaching them a lesson, which was deserved
but the way will was begging him, the way andrea was telling will what to say, all that shit about the sunday morning meetings and I know you’ll do the right thing… that was manipulative. the guilt tripping really did upset me actually, because they put lando in that position in the first place. he’s been nothing but loyal to that team and now they’re playing mind games because they made a mistake? yeah I hated it
also hated that what should have been the biggest moment of oscar’s career got overshadowed by drama that was avoidable. it’s a real shame for him honestly, but still so so happy for him
also I am so sick of this “lando didn’t spray oscar with champagne on the podium because he was bitter” narrative I am seeing all over twitter. lando didn’t spray oscar because oscar was busy holding onto the trophy for dear life while lando did his champagne pop. they were both clearly thinking about the trophies, so lando sprayed lewis instead. twitter always makes lando the bad guy, and i’m not saying he hasn’t made mistakes in the past because by god he definitely has. but he really does get hated on for breathing on that app
omg i’m so sorry for all this. think I needed to get it off my chest lmao, i’m still raging apparently

... Oscar apologised, for making the switch more painful than it needed to be, thanking the coordination as well. It was so sombre, no celebration in the radio or anything.
As much as I wanted to pop the champagne and be merry, this feels like... a very bitter pill to swallow. On one hand, Oscar did great - the start, maintaining race position and even gaining position, leading the race for laps until all the shits McLaren pulled start to kick up. But, just know that by perception alone, people are going to say that the win was fucking gifted to him by Norris.
On the other hand, we have a racer who finally tasted a win. That fight against the Word Champion, to be on the frontline - to feel like he's the big deal.
I'm thinking that Norris might pull that friendship card again, this time against Oscar. But hey, no friends, wasn't it?
Oscar would be fine, I think. He's not going to grovel for forgiveness, or something like that. On that note, Logan! Come up here, and congratulate your bestie!

okay so here we go JDKDKD. Carlos was kinda mean to oscar at the start but we saw the majority of it during Oscar’s first f1 race. he ran oscar off the track but blamed him and basically said he’s a dumb rookie😭 JDJDKDKS it’s so funny I literally love them both. carlos got hated on for weeks bc he said “a more experienced driver wouldn’t have done this😒” and everyone was like “blame the rookie why don’t you” and “a more experienced driver would’ve known not to push oscar off the track” and whatever but it just escalated from there
oscar was polite about it but carlos didn’t apologise and since then, almost every race they get into a fight or start yelling at each other via their radios djdjdjdjd it’s really funny tho because it’s so silly😭
AHHH not everyone blaming carlos bc HES the experienced one!!!! i have to agree /: i mean oscar could literally run someone off the track like its mario kart and im so far up his ass i would still be like oh my poor baby ):

Maybe you'll give a sane response to this because twitter surely isn't lol
If someone likes Lewis for everything he does outside of the sport like his advocacy for the wrong in the world but can't stand him on track and the way he answers F1 questions is that underlying racism?
Okay I’ll start this off with a big disclaimer- I am white, I am not the primary voice you should be seeking about racism, and if a POC person gives their opinion about a matter of racial bias- you should be considering that ahead of mine because it comes from a primary perspective, I can only repeat what I’ve learned.
That said, what I would say is while TECHNICALLY it could be entirely possible to have genuinely divorced opinions on off vs on track behaviour— in all likelihood, yes it is underlying racism, at least on some level.
Not all racism comes in the form of active and direct bigotry, sometimes it’s about the biases it builds up in you.
I would encourage you to consider that if you only support Lewis in the off track actions he does you approve of and agree with, but don’t give him the dignity of being human and not answering things in a way that benefits you or other drivers you like- are you supporting or Lewis, or just what he does for you?
Lewis was a driver before he was an activist, he was a person before he spoke out, if anything it was his isolation as the only black driver in the sport that forced him into a position of advocating - because he had to advocate for himself above all else. All drivers speak from a place of ego but as the most successful driver to ever touch the sport, he’s arguably speaking more from a position of knowledge than most.
Lewis faces a level of pressure and scrutiny that goes above and beyond what other drivers get, both because he dominated for so long, AND because he is POC and faces questions no other driver does.
When he says something out of turn he is often punished for it far louder than others too. Notice how an emphasis is always placed on Lewis to apologise for incidents where other drivers are usually let off. The argument is not “should he apologise” as some take it to be. It’s the fact that max or other drivers can push and shove, but are never expected to own up to it (and when they do, they are are held up high for being ‘good sports’) but if Lewis is involved in a regular on track incident, the daggers are turned on him if he doesn’t publicly go out of his way to say sorry (such as the Oscar incidents).
This is even applied on a sporting level, such as the jaywalking incident in 2023 where the FIA directly stated they wanted to hand out a worse punishment to him as a “role model”
What you need to ask yourself is- why don’t you like Lewis on track/how he answers questions, what specifically don’t you like about it. Did you like him before when he was winning and less controversial to listen to? And is it only now when he is in a position of understandable turmoil and frustration that you’ve started to dislike him? If so, why is he not allowed space to express regret and frustration with what’s happening even if it’s not tactful?
If you never liked him at all, what drivers DO you like, and are you treating their on track behaviour the same as his? Lewis is not crash happy, he’s far from the most radio vocal, he’s aggressive and non passive like all drivers but he is not particularly dangerous on track. I can name multiple drivers who are fan favourites with far worse behaviour- if you don’t like Lewis, do you dislike them too, or are you at least acknowledging that behaviour.
I’d also point out that a lot of our beliefs about sports come from not just our own observations but from the mouths of pundits and journalists we then internalise- it’s why when the head of alpine spoke discouragingly of ocon in public, abuse of him skyrocketed, people put words to feelings you might have already had or not have thought about at all.
So if you dislike something about lewis’ driving- is that because someone told you that’s how they felt, and you followed it? A lot of pundits around f1 have had almost no training around racial bias, they might have barely heard of the concept. I’ve heard some of the most rancid, biased takes come out of the mouths of paid sky presenters without a single thought to the impact, even presenters I traditionally LIKE, such as Ted Kravitz, have been guilty of asking Lewis alone about political issues and no other drivers.
Like I said earlier, racism is not always an overt act of bigotry, but singling out one driver to ask certain different questions without considering why you aren’t asking the others, IS racist. Many pundits also know about as much about the inside of the garages as you do, but they are given more credibility because fame carries their voice further. Lewis has also been in the sport a long time, and has his past brought up constantly despite his efforts to move on and do better - and it doesn’t help that he often has to compete with voices of people he hasn’t spoken to in close to a decade or more coming back to act as if they can see inside his brain.
Now, you don’t have to like everything he says, I have 3 drivers I like, and I’d say I only like about 70% of what comes out of their mouths surrounding their attitude to sport. But they are independent people who are in massive positions of pressure. They also make mistakes, have flaws, and will react to things based on their own experiences. I don’t have to always agree with them to like who they are at their core, or believe they are doing the right thing.
I also don’t have to agree with everything they choose, to still like them. I adore Yuki and he’s a Redbull driver, sportspeople exist as humans beyond their job no matter what many “not political” drivers may try to act like.
But additionally If you’re going to say you like what Lewis does off the track- examine what that is, because despite what a lot of people say, even some fans, Lewis will ALWAYS be a racer. He will tell you himself that racing is his blood and bone, it made him who he is, it’s what he revolves his life around, it links and sticks to the core of his being. People can’t be easily split into things you like and don’t like, their experiences and occupations make them. It’s pretty impossible to separate Lewis into two distinct beings and say you like one or the other.
If people can break down every aspect of why they dislike him and comfortably come away with a genuine belief it’s just how he acts as a driver entirely divorced form any form of bias, then they’re welcome to continue to hold that belief, but I’d say people should consider why they feel the need to talk about their dislike rather than just doing their best to ignore him. There are drivers I don’t like for vibes alone, but I don’t exactly spend much time thinking about them, I couldn’t care less what they’re up to, or justifying why I don’t like them but I’m still an alright person.
I can’t imagine I’m the first person to say all this, and if there were poc folk saying this on twitter (I don’t use twitter, I have no idea what’s been said) and I’m the voice you chose to ask, I’d also encourage you to to examine that. Self examination isn’t a one time thing, it’s a life long process, and I’ve had to do it myself plenty of times and will continue to. Just because you don’t like the WAY someone says something, doesn’t mean they’re wrong.
It shouldn’t take a white guy mainsplaining a topic to make you comfy with it, there’s far, far too many of those already. Listen to primary voices
