new rgg fans will never know what they missed back in ye olden days of the fandom (like, 2019), doubly so now that scott strichart's deleted his twitter and jon riesenbach's privated. twitter was so fucking fun and then whatever-the-hell at sega of america happened and caused a fucking snowball effect and now we have shitass localization and resulting discourse that makes every release nigh unbearable, misinformation, confusion, people complaining about "bad writing/mischaracterization" not realizing it's because of the shitass english loc, i'm sitting here like jesus christ these loc bitches massacred saejima's character voice, people will never see him as he was intended, as original yakuza 5 localization Correctly painted him, and now they're coming for kiryu. god help us. we used to be a proper fandom. before everyone was subjected to the remastered localizations and shaky eng characterization. no one had even played yakuza 3-5, people still called morning glory "sunshine" orphanage, kiryu was our only protagonist and people still called him "boring", it was beautiful...

anyway gaiden uses affective instead of effective because the current localization team is full of careless dumbasses who don't give a fuck about ensuring they're using correct english grammar and this is not an isolated incident

Ok I just watched @patricia-taxxon's new video [On the Ethics of Boinking Animal People] and I noticed that most of what she discussed were ideas I both understood and had assumed were intuitive with furry art.

So 3 years ago I made a video review of the manga Beastars (it's not public, wanna make a better version) and what I thought was so interesting about that story was the implication of a world where the animal aspect wasn't just symbolic in nature but a genuine attempt to present a "realistic" interpretation without compromising the symbology of the characters. Like having a YMCA for animals who get the zoomies is adorable. Or the way a seal reacted to watching someone trip in the same way a russian painter I worked with reacted to me saying "ope" here in the midwest. We even both made the exact same point about the infrastructure of Zootopia overcomplicating that story's world too!

At the time I had assumed folks understood that the appeal of furries was the abstraction and fantasy in the same way no one questions the animal people in a cartoon. The main appeal is aesthetic with the added bonus of imagining what it'd be like to be a fluffy little guy. As a result I figured the logic of that appeal could be transferred to adult content without causing any issues. So Beastars introducing anything that acknowledged them being animals without going too far like Zootopia, toeing that line between fantasy and "reality" felt novel. But now that I know I'm trans, autistic, and a furry I guess I shouldn't be too shocked there... idk, watching an impassioned defense of something I was already on the same page with, even before I had the words to describe it myself, was surreal in a fun way ^^

I'm learning Pathfinder 2e, and I haven't played it yet (but I might this Friday!) but so far it feels like in most ways, it's like D&D 5e, but cooler

Hachi was named for the time of her birth- born precisely at 8:00 am according to the medical staff (as "hachi" is also the pronunciation for the number 8 in Japanese). Hachi's name is written with the katakana ハチ. It is worth noting that names written in hiragana or katakana do not hold specific meanings as names written in kanji do; they are purely phonetic.

While it's not uncommon for given names to be written in the phonetic-based katakana or hiragana rather than kanji, and while Hachi has no issue with the name or the set of characters selected on its own, it occasionally becomes a point of insecurity for her when contrasted to her sister Emi's name, which is written in kanji--specifically, the kanji 恵美 (恵 meaning "blessing, favour, benefit" and 美 meaning "beautiful, pretty").

For Emi's name to so deliberately note her as beautiful blessing while Hachi's name is much more simply based off of the time of her birth, well, it's prime fodder for (over?)thinking when Hachi gets caught up in trying to analyze it.

I would have also liked to include the scenes where Atsushi hurt Naomi and Haruno and the one where he saw Sigma die, but I couldn't make them fit without disrupting the flow of the edit (╥﹏╥)

Sigma's scene in particular, since - if I remember correctly - Atsushi still doesn't know that Sigma is alive. So as far as Atsushi is concerned Sigma is just another person who died as consequence of being close to him (´;︵;)
