š¦ Has Nokotan āfallen offā? š¦
Seeing a few comments around the web where people are saying theyāve gotten bored with My Deer Friend Nokotan.
And I totally get it, everyoneās got the right to like what they like.
But I figured Iād give my two cents real quick.
#1 - I went into watching MDFN kinda knowing it was one of those shows that got super overhyped on 1) the viral dance and 2) the wacky premise.
That being said, itās still been one of the most fun fandoms Iāve joined in a long while and itās been fun watching the fandom grow and enjoy the show right from Day 1.
#2 - Is it an all-time favorite or even Top 10 anime for me?
Not really, and thatās okay. I think itās good in todayās world where everything has to have a Marvel level of āZOMFG!!!ā hype to have something just be āgoodā and fun.
Itās basically been a fun comfort show for me this summer, where I donāt have to overthink things and can just watch, get a few laughs and cute moments and enjoy.
#3 ā What do I like about it?
1) The jokes are *very* light and dry on purpose and thatās totally my kind of humor. It reminds me of other ārandomā slice-of-life anime like Lucky Star and Nichijou where the best jokes usually get a good āā¦PFFTāšā if you know what I mean.
2) I LOVE all the characters. Like Lucky Star and Nichijou, the cute little cast of side characters you start to identify with makes it feel like such a cozy show. The Student Council, the Deer Club, the old lady, the cafe owner, Tsunoda-san. I love em all!
3) The general vibe of the show is cute and cozy too. Yes, Koshitan inevitably suffers every episode and I get how some people really canāt handle that āsecond-hand cringeā, but I find that thereās honestly a lot of heart and kindness in the show too (just look at the Bashame/Anko scene this week! Or Neko offering Koshi snacks and water last ep!)
4) And like I said, I love the fandom around it too! Yāall are so fun to share the love of this show and these characters with and Iāve loved having my posts get a lot of feedback and attention too! DEER CLUB FOREVER!
5) Also, side note, I appreciate that, relatively speaking, thereās not a TON of weirdness and fan service in the show either. Yes, thereās Anko. But compared to something like Dragon Maid, the pervy jokes in Nokotan are for real few and far between as far as anime goes.
#4 ā Lastly, I read somewhere where someone lightly doubted that weād get a Season 2. I really hope we do cause of all the reasons above. Iāve watched and rewatched the episodes this summer as much as any anime Iāve followed this anime season. But unfortunately it does seem sometimes like if a show doesnāt hit that Marvel level of hype I mentioned earlier that it can be a struggle to get another season. That being said, Iāve seen references to āthe danceā and deer in general a lot around anime spaces this summer, so I hope the attention and hype around the show convinces them to make a Season 2! āØš¦āØš¦
So yeah, just wanted to get these thoughts outta my head and into the world! Keep on rockin through these last 2 episodes, Shikas! š¦āØ

yoshitaka mine! akiyama! fenris dragon age (i think youve rb'd dragon age before right š if not fenris give me any dragon age you like)!
my general perception of them
Mine: He's like if my boyfriend's cat was a person
Akiyama: my blorbo of choice. so greasy. the absolute worst to go on a date with. would stand you up because he fell asleep
Fenris: He transed my gender and made me gay. he's THE reason i started playing dragon age. i couldnt even start with origins, i couldnt handle waiting that long to see fenris. i jumped straight to da2. i played da2 NONSTOP for THREE MONTHS. OVER AND OVER. i finished a playthrough and IMMEDIATELY restarted. if theres any character that is mine, it's fenris.
an unpopular opinion or, failing that, a fun fact
Mine: i think the way ykz fandom fixates on his idolization of daigo is only funny up to a point. like yeah theres no way its not romantic but you know when fandom telephone distorts it too much? i think ykz fandom does that a Lot. also, not enough people played y3 like yeah the combats shitty but i am fond of that game
Akiyama: PEOPLE DONT DRAW HIM RIGHT people make him TOO pretty he loses the grease!!! and people make him too fit. give that man a gut. and BODY HAIR
Fenris: DA fandom does too much and ends up super racist about it, more at 11. too many people fetishize his background, have him ultra dependent on hawke, etc etc. ppl also like never write him as actually funny as he is in canon. he either gets woobified or he's a smarmy prickly asshole 100% of the time. where's his dry humor! dude said hawke stepped in the poopy with a straight face. i love him
music i associate with them (if any)
Mine: sexy naughty bitchy by tata young. no im kidding. unless. but also money by pink floyd bc ofc and your ex lover is dead by stars
Akiyama: The nichijou opening (Hyadain no Kakakata Kataomoi - C) in the context of AkiHana as they r falling in love, and Sometime Around Midnight by The Airborne Toxic Event ALSO in the context of akihana but like she dumped him for being a shitty boyfriend and he never got over it. look they just Go together
Fenris: I'm Not Calling You A Liar by florence and the machine but mostly because i associate it with all of da2, and Putting the Dog to Sleep by the antlers. also no song is ever gonna suit him more than mage pride
if I feel (spiritually) like I could beat them in a fight
Mine: no do you understand how fucking unhinged this guy is? he'd flay me
Akiyama: in theory yeah i dont rly think akiyama is actually That good at fighting like i really just gotta push him down the stairs and he'd be done
Fenris: NO.

Blogpost #9
In this blog post, I would like to engage in a self-inquiry to find my creative voice, as well as attempt to define it.
I have always felt a need to be creative since I was a child, and I have explored various realms of practice to reach what I am currently doingāi.e., animation. I initially prepared to attend architecture college, which later shifted to graphic design and illustration. Recently, I watched three videos on YouTube: Outsider's Guide to Finding Your Creative Voice by Shappi Khorsandi, Find Your Inner Artist by Caroline Winegart, and How to Find Your Visual Voice by Marie Bourgeois. These videos served as stepping stones in my journey toward finding my creative voice. After watching them, I had a few takeaways that Iād like to share.
Freedom to Express and Be Vulnerable
As a creative practitioner, Iāve chosen a profession where I convey my voice through images. As the saying goes, āA picture is worth a thousand words,ā and I wield this power to communicate my thoughts visually. What I want to say is still unclear to me, but I know I find solace in humor. I love making people laugh. I derive happiness and a sense of achievement when the stories or jokes I tell make my audience laugh. I like to think I have a good sense of humor, and I often find myself creating comical narratives in my work. However, I struggle with being vulnerable in my self-expression. Just as humor is my strength, it is also my weakness. I find it difficult to stray from funny topics, which I feel limits me as a storyteller. Humor feels natural to me, and itās my comfort zone when it comes to narratives and storytelling. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but I would prefer not to rely on it as a crutch.
The Idea of Authenticity to Yourself
In her TED Talk, Caroline Winegart discusses how happiness and authenticity are interconnected. She explains that narrowing the gap between who you are and what you do leads to greater happiness. She suggests that being true to yourself and expressing yourself in your own unique ways is key to finding joy.
Iāve always loved to draw, but recently, Iāve noticed this passion slowly fading. Drawing as a hobby is completely different from drawing for assignments or as a profession, and I feel a disconnect between the two. I realize that itās been a long time since Iāve drawn for myself, and I believe social media plays a big role in this. Every time I draw outside the scope of assignments, I often feel like Iām drawing for social mediaāseeking likes and comments. The validation I receive on these platforms starts to dictate the value of my artwork. This has stunted my growth as a practitioner and has muted my artistic voice.
Additionally, social media tends to skew my perspective on the kind of art I want to create. I often find myself making art and following trends that Iām not truly passionate about. A lot of the art I create is fan art of existing characters, which, in itself, is not inherently bad. The issue arises when these fan arts take priority over my original ideas. This is largely because fan art tends to garner more engagement than my original work.
For example, in my third animatic, thereās a seemingly surreal twist where the character gets trapped inside a utensil. However, this wasnāt my original concept. The initial idea was that the character would get frustrated, bang the pan onto the slab, and have the pan scream and emit a laser, burning the characterās faceāsimilar to a scene in the anime Nichijou. It felt inauthentic to deviate from the original idea for the animatic, but I also wanted to explore something that was less about comedy and more about something else.

Closing Thoughts
After this self-inquiry, I have some lingering thoughts and questions. As Shappi Khorsandi says, āAllow yourself to fall flat on your face.ā I must give myself permission to fail. I need to allow myself to try things that resonate with me, without always expecting success. I believe this will help me refine my creative voice. By continuing to engage in self-inquiry and asking myself what I truly want to say to the world, Iāll be able to better define my artistic voice. What is my story, no matter how big or small? These are questions Iāll need to continue exploring in the near future.

you know, I think thatās the trick with japanese manga and anime humor that I like - particularly titles like Nichijou and Ouran HSHC and Scott Pilgrim
they have 1001 ways to depict psychic damage and being ātaken outā by ordinary bizarre crap and juxtaposition turned into literal metaphor
So yeah, their souls were dangling out from their mouths. They lost color. They went robot. Their head is steaming and they need an engine replacement. They have retreated to tend to the mushrooms are growing in their closet. They wimped and limped.
KOād!!!! Meteor Crash!!! āļø
said āhave a good day!ā to a customer who wasnāt actually leaving yet
instant 2d8 psychic damage

gag anime that you need to watch maybe
Ā hi hello my name is juli and i will now gently guide ur attention to some top-notch shows, please pay attanetion
(this list is for people who donāt watch much anime or who are new to it. if ur a fucken weeb youve probably seen it all. dont @ me i want to help the kids)
ONE PUNCH MAN (the obvious 1st choice lol)
Genre: Action/ Shounen
Expectation: OP protagonist with riveting backstory fights to become the strongest hero, makes many friends along the way who recognize his talents and pure heart, big bad scary villains make him stronger
Reality: OP protagonist is already the strongest hero. His backstory? After fighting a lobster-man with nipples drawn on him with a Sharpie, Saitama decides to do a workout routine every day, and somehow ends up becoming the most powerful known being in the universe. His main issue is that now, he literally can take down any villain with a single punch, and heās very bored of it.
Best Qualities: Animation is bomb, music is dope, humor is funnie, and Best Boy is a man whose superpower is riding a bicycle. Also Saitama egg head
If you were in a coma for all of 2015, this is the main thing u missed. Moving on.
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun (Monthly Girlsā Nozaki)
Genre: Romance/ Comedy/ Slice of Life
Expectation: Smol shoujo protag girl grows closer to her oblivious crush through a fated, if awkward, incident which reveals an embarrassing secret that has to be kept at all costs. Through one another they gain more quirky friends, help each other grow, and, eventually, the male lead realizes that what he needs has been beside him all along.
Reality: The crush writes romance manga, and that is literally all the man cares about. Itās not a secret, but when he told people they didnāt believe him. Nozaki and Sakura grow closer, but only because he confuses her confession with a request to be his Beta. They gain quirky friends through one another, but there is zero character development throughout the entire fucking cast. Every episode is run by Idiot Plot. All the characters share a singular brain cell. Thereās a tall butch lady turning every girl in the school gay. Please watch
Best Quali-teas: Everyone is baby, lots of gay shenanigans, and toxic masculinity does not exist, the OP is pretty nice, too
I literally heard about this damn show, like, two months ago. This shit was released circa 2015. Pleeze watch
The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. / Saiki Kusuo no Psi Nan
Genre: Shounen/ Supernatural/ Fucking Everything tbh
Expectation: Slice-of-life supernatural where protag has psychic powers, albeit limited ones, and has to keep them a secret at all costs for fear of his safety. He has a few friends he loves and cherishes, and at least two girls who are in love with him that he has to choose between-- all of which are people he wants to protect from his double-life.
Reality: Kusuo is very aware that he is the protagonist of an anime, and he does not want to be. Born with pink hair? He rewrites the human genome to make colored hair normal. End of the world looming? He just keeps rewinding time so he doesnāt have to deal with it. Harem situation? He actively uses his powers to avoid all love interests at all times (see the above). The plot of each episode is him trying to stop the plot as quickly as possible without killing anyone. The main issue is that everyone around him is either dumb or just generally attractive to plot-driving circumstances, and they all, for some reason, want him to be in on their adventures.
Best Qualities: HeavyĀ āme and the boysā energy, plenty of Idiot Plot, so funny that my 47yo mom who hates anime admitted that itās funny, meta as fuck, occasionally sweet scenes, equally good dub and sub, Saiki is babie
The fandom for this shit is like. Nonexistent. Apparently it came out the same season as Mob Psycho 100, so that might be why. I almost didnāt watch it, but I got bored and it turned out to be a serious gem. Go watch if ur having a bad day, it will make u cry laughing
Sakamoto Desu Ga/ Havenāt You Heard? Iām Sakamoto
Genre: Slice of life/ Comedy
Expectation: God I donāt even know. Iād say a typical slice of life where the quiet kid is bullied but makes friends, thereās a love triangle as they grow up together through high school, yadda yadda, but look at this dude. I canāt imagine him being anything other than what he is-- a legend.
Reality: The entire show is just a question of how extra one man can be, and how well he can pull it off. Sakamoto is anĀ āaverageā high school senior (in the sense that he has no supernatural abilities), but heās....far more than that. Heās Sebastian Michaelis if heād never been a demon. Everything always works out for him in the most ridiculous of ways-- heās just that good. He makes a McDonaldās uniform look like Prada. Heās so smooth his bully ends up having a crush on him (and yes, it is a gay crush. no heteros in this show).Ā
Best Qualities: lots of homo content. the side characters, inspired by Sakamotoās grace, all become better people, and you root for them. The circumstances are always average, but the presentation is fucking riveting. Watch to send ur depression into remission.
Another one no one talks about????? U all were so busy with ur broku no hero macadamias and ur Nartoes that you slept on this. Nowās the time to take back what was lost. Love yourself and binge this shit.Ā
Nichijou/ My Ordinary Life
Genre: Slice of Life/ Comedy
Expectation: Cute girls do cute, girly things and have fun with Their Close Good Friends (TM).
Reality: Cute girls get into very bizarre situations with extremely manic energies. Sometimes, the situations are normal, but the girls react in a bizarre, manic fashion. It will make you alarm-laugh.
Best Qualities: Adorable art style, little continuity, relatable as fuck
A nice little watch if youāre bored. I think the eps are on YouTube.
Pop Team Epic/ Poputepepiku
Genre: Only God Knows
Expectation: Probably a cutesy 4koma-type thing with 2 schoolgirls having shenanigans.
Reality: A regular acid trip withĀ lesbian icons Popuko and Pipimi who are not schoolgirls, but gods. Like if Eric Andre and Hannibal Buress were turned into omnipotent anime icons. Watch at your own risk.
Best Qualities: Lots of unexpected parodies and references amongst a shitpost of a show. The OP is a bop. Popuko terrifies me, but also empowers me as a young woman because she will not hesitate to kill a bitch. She and Pipimi love each other a whole lot, so it is LGBTQ content, which is always a plus.Ā
Iām sure youāve seen this one floating around. It will make you feel fear, and then laugh. Now, finally...
Ouran Highschool Host Club
Genre: Romance/ Comedy
Expectation: The protagonist is a girl who is mistaken for a boy and must be the servant of six rich, handsome young men, all of which are in love with her, and her secret must be kept at all costs. A reverse harem anime with plenty of fanservice.
Reality: Haruhi is a genderfluid queen who doesnāt give a fuck what others think she is. Because she broke a Conveniently-Placed Vase and is relatably poor, she has to pay off her debt by being a host herself-- which means male-presenting when flirting with her female classmates to make her dough. The six rich, handsome young men all share three brain cells, and most of those cells go to the character who has one line per episode (usually, itāsĀ āYeahā. I hope that VA got paid well). The only love interest-- theĀ āleaderā and most popular of the six men-- is so dead-set on their club being his Found Family, he confuses his romantic feelings for Haruhi with paternal ones. This is obvious to everyone but him. He never gets the brain cells.Ā
Best Qualities: Trans characters!! Lesbians!! ExtremeĀ āme and the boysā energy, except theyāre all rich, so shenanigans skyrocket. Many 4th wall breaks. The most powerful Host looks like heās 5. AnyĀ āfanserviceā is never played straight. Takes the Found Family trope to a whole new level. Nice Parks & Rec-quality balance between hysterical and sweet. Everyone is in drag at some point.
I know all of us senior citizens grew up on this shit, but you younguns need to watch the classics to appreciate the newfangled stuff. I recommend watching when youāre in a cheesy rom-com mood.Ā
Honorable Mentions:
I canāt count these as gag anime, but theyāre still ridiculously funny.
Mob Psycho 100
Scissor Seven
Kill la Kill
Cells at Work!
Jojoās Bizarre AdventureĀ
Ones I havenāt seen but have heard a lot about
Osomatsu-san
Himouto! Umaru-chan

Hey miss wonderful taste in everything, can you recommend us some of your favorite KyoAni productions?
Sure! I love doing recs and Iām literally taking any sort of positive content related to KyoAni lately because we truly need it at the moment. Long post alert, though. Here goes my top 10:
1. Hyouka
This one will probably be my first choice forever. Itās KyoAniās most brilliant work so far and easily one of the best animes Iāve ever watched, hands down. Itās also their finest novel-to-anime adaptation in my opinion, and one of the very few animation series that actually turned out better than their source material.
The books are extremely interesting, but theyāre also bland. The alterations made to the anime added visual value to it in order to make it more alluring and appealing, turning ordinary situations into rather unique and thought-provoking settings, while managing to never deviate from its novel counterpart. The changes on the charactersā designs were also a very good choice in my opinion, as they fit more into the character archetypes and the impressions they give off.
This one is honestly an example for the whole anime industry and a timeless gem. Iām pretty certain that it was one of the studioās turning points in terms of animation style. Surely will become a classic in the future.
2. Koe no Katachi
KyoAniās most well-done movie, as far as I can tell. Iām specially fond of the symbolism of every scene and the effort put on the scenery, which gave an effect of depth to the frames. The studio managed to portray the mangakaās art style while staying true to its own trademark traits as well.
Animation quality and sound design aside, itās also loyal enough to the manga. There were cuts in order to fit the story into the time limit, but KyoAni made up for the gaps with later released specials. The movie is also considerably less dramatic than the original, yet Iām certain that the alterations in that regard were made so that the transition between the phases of the story wouldnāt feel rushed. Albeit in a much more uplifting way, it nevertheless managed to transmit the charactersā essence and emotions.
What caught my attention the most in this movie was the soundtrack, though. There was a lot of care in its production, and it was clearly made to be gentle and almost imperceptible, with glitch-like repetitions here and there, as if it means to put the viewers in the shoes of the deaf heroine. It certainly did its job well.
3. Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu!
First anime from KyoAni Iāve ever watched, aside from the Inuyasha movies. Easily one of their funniest series, if not the actual funniest. It has a very special place in my heart. I dropped Amagi Brilliant Park on the first episode, but Iād cry internally every time I saw Bonta-kun in it. The nostalgia is strong, kids.
Itās got excellent animation for the year it was made, and I dare say itās more decently animated than many current animes. The pacing is dynamic and the jokes vary from over-the-top to smart and witty in a smooth way. I also give this one kudos for not relying nearly as much on fanservice as more recent titles.
For the people who didnāt watch the first Full Metal Panic, I suggest doing so before trying this one out. Anyone who enjoys the two should also watch the second season, Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid, which comes right after Fumoffu and was also animated by KyoAni.
4. Clannad
This one I deem as the best out of KyoAniās most notorious classics. I also recommend the other titles related to this one, such as Clannad: Another Story.
Much like Hyouka, itās a masterpiece in every aspect. It has a very non-clichĆ© and unconveninent plot that deals with delicate themes in a sensible way and tears your heart apart at the same time. Frankly exemplary to the drama genre and exceptional as a visual novel adaptation.
5. Free!
The franchise became lackluster after the first director left, but the first two seasons were fun enough in their own right. Unlike most novel-to-anime adaptations, Free! started with original content through creating a future for the main story, which was turned into the not-so-distant past in the anime. This is unusual enough, but it worked out well as the anime maintained itself as loyal as possible to the first book and never went off the rails with the plot. The main charactersā personalities did suffer many alterations, yet itās obvious that they meant to make the two more charismatic and likeable. As far as fan responses went, it worked.
I find very interesting that the creators were aware the story took itself too seriously at times, and they made this clear by compensating the heavy melancholy with heavy comedy. They also compensated the overdramatic atmosphere of the first season by picking up the pace and getting a little more serious in the second season. Everything was intentional and designed to be a hit amongst women, which I think had served the purpose until the first movie came out.
To be honest, Iām not fond of the exaggerated fanservice, but it gets easy to ignore it after a while if you only pay attention to the storyline. I donāt consider myself a fan of Free!, and I actually took very long to start liking it. I only did get into it at the last scene of episode 8, back when the first season was still airing. It was only by this time that I could see the true value of the series, so I recommend anyone who tries it out to go at least that far with it. I know it might be a lot of work, but in my honest opinion, itās worth the trouble.
I deem the High Speed! novel awe-inspiring because of its nostalgic tone and the awfully realistic depiction of childhood crises. The most serious situations of it are a little out of reality, but the rest is absurdly relatable in levels that I myself donāt know how to put into words. Yet I also appreciate Free! for its strong tone of encouragement. It feels like the creators are trying to cheer up the viewers.
6. Kyoukai no Kanata
It starts becoming a mess from episode 4 onward, yet the beginning was quite promising. This one relies heavily on fanservice, often makes use of nonsensical tropes for the sake of comedy and sometimes goes overboard with the jokes. However, it doesnāt fail to deliver emotional value and the action is pretty neat. Anyone who hasnāt read the novel will definitely be able to enjoy it as a standalone.
I donāt think I need to mention it, but the animation is stellar. I in particular love the blurry movement effects of when the characters draw their weapons and the geometrical spectrums in the colorful power barriers. I also recommend the OVA, as well as the second movie Iāll be Here, although the latter is 100% original content. It was actually cute and fun to watch. The first movie is merely one huge recap.
7.Ā Hibike! Euphonium
Truly dazzling take on slice-of-life. Itās healing and heartrending at the same time. The way that characters are portrayed allows the viewers to feel their passion and dedication without it occasionally feeling unrealistic. Everyone has their own problems, but none of them are taken out of proportion. Miscommunication happens, just not in a frustrating shoujo manga way.
The soundtrack and scenery are breathtaking, yet the forte of the animation in this one was the huge amount of detail put into the eyes and hair. Everyoneās hairdos are remarkably glossy without ever looking weird, and I especially like how their eyes all glinter in different colors.
The author published another volume of the novel after the anime, saying it had inspired her to write more, and itās no wonder. I also recommend season two and the OVA. The first two movies are just recaps and the third was to me a disappointment, so I leave those to peopleās own discretion.
8. Tamako Market
Rather odd but nice story. It blends iyashikei elements with a peculiar plot and actually manages to do that in a cute way. All of the characters are likeable and the visuals do a good job in transmitting what they have to transmit in a very relaxing manner.
This show caught me off-guard by how unproblematic it was. It has trans, gay and dark-skinned characters, but none of them is ever used for fanservice or jokes and their respective circumstances are portrayed as 100% normal, which is sadly still rare in anime even nowadays. The romance is pretty not-dramatic and filled to the brim with fluff, and I very much like that the main guy treats his female love rival as a serious threat.
I recommend the specials and the movie as well. Especially the movie, which is basically the same as direct sugar injestion and gave me diabetes.
9. Munto
Also has a special place in my heart. Cheesy but good, actually. Iād be lying if I said there arenāt some surprises in it, though, but Iāll refrain from giving too much info on the story itself.
It was firstly an OVA, but then got adapted into three movies. The animation was done finely enough, but thereās a drastic change in style from the first to the second half, though I myself didnāt really mind it. The characters are all well-stablished and the plot is consistent. Thereās a present quality of feminist shades in it and the relationships are very endearing.
10. Nichijou
Not really one of my favorites but certainly one that I recommend for people who are in need of a laugh. Itās got some pretty creative and iconic humor. Its imaginative retakes on routinely affairs manage to transform the most trivial real-life situations into Oscar-worthy wit. It also gets nonsensical every so often, but this fits within the showās own narrative.
It has a very unique animation that sometimes mixes different styles of art, which only makes every scene a hundred times funnier for being so soft and adorable. It varies from hyperrealistic to surrealistic at the speed of light and sometimes even becomes abstract as hell. Itās full of notes on Japanese culture, not only about daily life but also about media, which adds up to the fun.

27, 28?
27. anime you plan to watch in the future
oh boy. i genuinely canāt think of any. i actually very rarely watch anime (last time i watched an anime was over a year ago?). i know yesterday i couldnāt even come up with 9 anime that iāve seen, but i know that i had forgotten about some. however, iām 100% positive that the total number of anime iāve actually watched is no more than 15.
that being said, there is a general formula for anime that i enjoy. fanservice is almost always an automatic strike out, and the anime that i typically enjoy the most are either just completely wholesome and sweet (shirokuma cafe), or just totally stupid humor (danshi koukousei no nichijou, disastrous life of saiki k).Ā
i never go out and actively search for new shows to watch, but if i come across something that meets these criteria, then iāll give it a whirlĀ (*ć»ā-)ā
28. most upsetting moment in anime, whyĀ
okay, so i watched like the first couple episodes of anohana and then dropped it, but i skipped to that one sceneĀ at the end bc i heard how sad it was, and...... jesus christ iāve rarely cried that hard with media.Ā
itās just really so emotional and bittersweet to me, and i didnāt even watch the anime orz. (fun fact! if thereās something in my eye that i canāt get out, then i just rewatch that scene to make myself cry and clear my eye LOOL)
thank you for asking!
#answered#i really want that yakuza househusband manga to become an anime#i would watch that in an instant#i'm honestly extremely picky with anime#i vastly prefer games to anime so when i *do* have free time i just spend it playing video games

You've got me curious now as to what anime youve seen, enjoyed and why.
Oof, I donāt track that type of thing. Iāve been asked about anime I like previously, and I feel like I always forget something. I suppose I should start a MyAnimeList one of these days, just for reference.
So letās list everything I can remember, as well as a pithy reaction.
Baccano! This one is just so much fun. Itās violent and crass in a classy way, itās funny in a weird way, and itās a great example of a non-linear narrative. I love it.
Code Geass (Season 1)Ugh, I only watched this one because people solicited my opinion on it. Well, my opinion is that itās not as smart as it wants to be, thereās too much contrived melodrama (and considering the wild premise, thatās saying something), and Kallen would be a wonderful and interesting character if she wasnāt always being demeaned for fan-service. I quit when the first season finale kicked off, because I felt things were just getting too contrived. I hear it really fell apart in the second season.
Cowboy BebopI found this a bit pretentious. It had good episodes and bad episodes. The production quality is good. But I'm not sure why it's legendary. Still, I liked its sense of humor, and enjoyed it when it wasnāt trying to be super serious. My favorite character is Ed.
Demon SlayerI'm mainly watching this because my brother wanted to give it a try on Toonami, but I kind of checked out when it unceremoniously removed everything difficult about the sister being a demon and made her into an order-following sidekick that fits in a suitcase. Now the latest episode introduced a loud annoying side character, so we may quit. I have no idea why this one is so popular.
Fullmetal AlchemistCovered
Gatchaman CrowdsI was asked to watch this one, as well, but it went a lot better than Code Geass. Itās a bit weird, and I think it's naively optimistic about the internet in many ways, but I still found it's exploration of Internet-age superheroes to be interesting, and it's the best, most mature take on the Power Rangers-style āsentaiā genre that I've seen. I don't know how well it matches up with its Gatchaman legacy, but as its own thing, it's pretty good.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (including 2nd Gig)This is another legendary one that I think is good but a bit over-rated. It's a good piece of modern Cyberpunk, but it's very talky, and very jargon-filled. I'm almost convinced that the viewer is not meant to follow half of the conversations, that they're just part of the ambiance. I tended to like the stand-alone episodes better than the storyline episodes. Still, itās a very smart series, and probably the best thing in the franchise, from what Iāve heard.
Log Horizon (first season only)Iāll tell you what- I think itās possible to make a good anime with the premise of people from the modern, real world entering a fantasy realm (either another dimension or a VR video game). Log Horizon did not end up being that ideal. The main character is a Gary Stu, his romances with girls who are either ten years old or just look like theyāre ten years old are creepy, and it got boring seeing the protagonistsā plans always succeed without much of a hitch.
Lupin III (series 4 and 5)I like this franchise when it's being clever, when it's springing a twist while playing fair. Sometimes, though, it doesn't play fair with its twists, leaving me underwhelmed. And while the regular cast is amusing, they're fairly shallow characters; this isn't always a bad thing, as that allows them to slot into all kinds of genre fare, but does limit the storytelling ambitions. Itās fine.
Macross franchiseSuper Dimensional Fortress MacrossI still like the original, despite how dated it is. It's probably the best possible implementation of 'soap opera in space.'
Macross PlusI'm not sure why this one is so revered. I feel like it doesn't play fair with its mystery, despite being such a short story, and whole thing with the killer popstar AI just left me cold.
Macross 7I like the music, but the story really drags for the first half with a formula thatās repeated far too long, and then falls apart in the end. The love triangle isnāt resolved, and in fact Iām of the opinion that two of the participants didnāt even know they were in competition. The bad guys are allowed to sail off into the sunset, forgiven, despite still inhabiting the bodies of kidnapped humans. But this isn't a series you watch for the story; this is a series you watch because you like the idea of a rockstar flying into space in a transforming mecha, controlled by an electric guitar, to sing at alien invaders. Personally, I think the idea is dumb. Plus, this ruins the premise of the original series by adding in what is effectively magic.
Macross ZeroThis is pretty good and has the best dogfights in the series, but it has one of those weird arty endings that anime sometimes likes to do where no one can tell what actually happened and we need to find translated interviews with the creative team to get it explained.
Macross FrontierBy this point, I was wondering why everyone is so eager for the Macross franchise to get American distribution. Itās better than Macross 7, but feels like a first draft of the intended story, and the creative team lost track of their own subplots. The two AU movies do a more satisfying take on the same basic story, but sometimes they come across like an abridged recap of the series, so you really need to watch everything to get a satisfying experience. That said, the final experience was indeed fairly satisfying, making this the second best thing in the franchise for me. Still, I wouldnāt say it lives up to the original in any way.
Macross DeltaBoy, this one was dumb. Everything wrong with Frontier is worse here, with none of the good stuff.
The Melancholy of Haruhi SuzumiyaI still want an ending for this, despite nothing worthwhile coming from it since 2011. It wouldn't even be hard to pick it up again; set it in modern times, and explain the fact that everyone has smartphones now to be a result of some weird off-screen Haruhi antics.
Mobile Suit Gundam franchiseMobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded OrphansI've only ever experienced the Gundam franchise because my brother wants to get into it and he keeps trying to find a vector. This was my first experience with it, and I found it very 'teenage boy,' in both tone and story. I was underwhelmed.
Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn RE:0096Another case where the storytellers reached the end only to have forgotten the rest of the story. Why does that happen so often in anime? And I think it assumes the viewer is familiar with the whole rest of the franchise, because there was a lot that just went straight over my head but didn't seem like it was supposed to. Nice animation and art style, though.
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin - Advent of the Red CometEverything I said about Unicorn, only more.
My Hero AcademiaCovered
NichijouThis thing is still hilarious, even after a rewatch. Stick with the sub, as the new dub's voice-acting doesn't have the same range and power of the original, losing a lot of the humor.
Outlaw Star I'm struggling to remember a lot of this one. itās another I watched because my brother was interested in it. I do recall that it was a fairly standard Space Western that ends in a way that's more like serious science fiction, and that for some reason a Japanese swordswoman in classic clothing was part of the cast. Now I wonder if that was an homage to Lupin III. Or maybe Japan just really loves throwing classic samurai into everything, regardless of setting or genre.
Pokemon (part of first series)I was in high school when this franchise first came to America, and for some reason all the geeks in my high school thought it was the greatest thing. The games were good, yeah, but the anime? I don't think it's bad for a kiddie cartoon, but it obviously has no greater ambitions than pleasantly occupying the kids for 22 minutes. Personally, what I really want is a series about Team Rocket done in the style of Cowboy Bebop.
Princess TutuCo-owner of the Best Magical Girl designation. I forget who asked me to watch this, but I owe them.
Puella Magi Madoka MagicaCo-owner of the Best Magical Girl designation. I still haven't bothered with anything but the original series, and I continue to be happy with that choice.
Samurai ChamplooI liked this better than Cowboy Bebop, but only because its ambitions were lower. It leaned more into its genre, had fun with its style more even when being serious, and as a result became more enjoyable. I overall liked going on a journey with these rascals, but I think it ended at a good point. I donāt need more.
Spice & Wolf (first season)I watched this on someone's suggestion, and found it a little underwhelming. What I really appreciated were the two main characters, especially that they seem to be into each other, romantically and sexually, and aren't freaked out by it while at the same time not being in a hurry to become a couple. It was just a kind of, "Yeah, this could really be something if we ever find the time." It was so amazingly mature and real. Too bad the main Economics plotlines just wound up being tepid.
Tekkaman BladeMy thoughts haven't changed on this.
Tiger & BunnyI'm still fond of this one, and I'm actually kind of curious to revisit it in light of My Hero Academia.
Transformers āUnicron TrilogyāThese three cartoons are true anime, produced by and for Japan. (The other cartoons in the franchise were written, and sometimes animated, in the west.) It's garbage that assumes its child audience are morons, and on top of that the first two series wound up with laughably bad dubs. How this trilogy revitalized the franchise, I have no idea, and thankfully I'll never have to worry about it.
Volton (original)Either this or Robotech/Macross was my first anime; I was too young to say which I discovered first. I'll admit that the original Voltron isn't good, despite the toy being neat, but I have a soft spot for it. I tried the Netflix reboot, watching the first three episodes, and found it to be vacuous junk. Maybe some day a version of this will come along that will do justice to the toy.
And I think thatās it. If I remember anything I left off, Iāll reblog with the addition.

hey ever since i finished saiki i haven't found any decent comedy series do you happen to have some recs? have a good day
i got a similar ask before but i donāt mind repeating myself so here goes:
sakamoto desu ga, 100/10, a masterpiece
detroit metal city, VERY vulgar but the funniest thing iāve ever seen
arakawa under the bridge, has a main het storyline i donāt care about but otherwise hilarious
gintama, if youāre in the mood for something longer. the first 30-40 episodes are a waste of everyoneās time but it gets much better and has top-notch comedy. eventually it falls down a slope and becomes a regular boring shounen tho, sad. but halfway thru s1 to s3 itās super good
hoozuki no reitetsu, intellectual comedyā¢ as they call it. itās one of my favorite titles overall
yondemasu yo, azazel-san, the exact opposite of that. vulgar, but funny
saint onii-san, was written by the same lady who wrote arakawa
gekkan shoujo nozaki-kun, chockablock full of str8 romance which i donāt care about but moderately funny
tono to issho, i keep telling everyone to watch it but they wonāt listen even tho itās fucking HILARIOUS
sakigake!! cromartie koukou, had me in stitches. FREDDIE!!!
masuda kousuke gekijou gag manga biyori, each episode is like 5 minutes. the only problem that you canāt really find it anywhere online in good quality, but the content is hysterical
sayonara zetsubou sensei, has an ecchi side which i donāt care about, and is lowkey a harem, otherwise itās more satire than actual comedy but it has its bright moments
level e, A MASTERPIECE
nichijou, i hate kyoani but this is their only redeeming title. one of the funniest things iāve ever watched
jinrui wa suitaishimashita, again satire + intellectual humorā¢, but i found it to be very clever and light-hearted. itās vibrant in color and has a good feel about it
jojoās bizarre adventure, i donāt think itās listed as comedy but its sheer ridiculousness makes it outstandingly hilarious
gokusen, i like the yakuza theme
angel densetsu, nobody knows about this title which is sad bc i was screaming at my screen while watching it
kachou no koi, just hilarious
beelzebub, it was funny in the first like 40 episodes but the last like 20 ones are meh. worth giving a shot tho
gakuen handsome, another masterpiece
oruchuban ebichu, mainly sex-themed. itās an anime about a hamster who constantly talks about sex
thermae romae, like 5 episodes 15 minutes each. ridiculous is the word to put on it
sekkou boys, same as above. a title about a bunch of statues who are in an idol band
ixion saga DT, vulgar and ugly but funny. one of the main characters is a trans woman who is not a caricature but actually a thoroughly written character
Ā ore monogatari, mostly boring str8 romance with a bit of humor to spice it up if you will. the humor part is funny tho
handa-kun, meh. everyone was gushing about it when it was on-going but i found it annoying bc of the mc. there were like 3 times when i laughed out loud so iām including it
i hope you find something to your liking!

So Iām just gonna spit out lots of words from a quick idea I had that turned into a full fledged idea Iāve decided to stick to...
Yāknow, I had the thought of a Smash Bros anime yesterday (probably a split between action and mindless, random comedy like Nichijou or something. Iām thinking the comedy aspect would be more prominent, and more obvious in certain ways, like character personality trait exaggeration), and the thought of Snake being one of those outwardly unemotional but internally fawning kuuderes flooded my head.
I specifically thought of Arin from Trinity Seven and Mai from Nichijou at first.
As for mannerisms...
Gendered bathrooms and showers donāt matter to Snake since he doesnāt see gender and sex of a person as something to divide anyone, so he just goes to whatever one he wants to when he needs to use them, without a second thought. If heās caught by a girl in one of the girl bathrooms/showers theyāll ask him why the hell he isnāt freaking out like they are, and heāll just goĀ āOh.ā then heāll be quiet for a minute before taking a breath and doing a normal volume and blandĀ āaaaaaaaahhh.ā with a straight face. Every time heās confronted about his blankness or density to others and their own emotional responses, heāll just state how difficult the situation is. Female character: YOU SHOULD BE MORE EMOTIONAL ABOUT THIS! YOUāRE TOO MONOTONE!
Snake: This is difficult.
Or...
Female character: Hey! You canāt follow me into this bathroom! Go to the boyās bathroom!
Snake: Iām fine with it.
Female character: WELL IāM NOT!
Snake: This is difficult.
Though, there ARE times where heāll show some open emotion, especially if he finds a crude joke funny, in which heāll chuckle like he usually does, then get blank again after heās done having his laugh. Also heāll openly show negative emotions, like anger, annoyance, disappointment, etc, like his actual self.
I also think Snake would be super prone to inwardly fawning over cute things for comedic value, animals especially. A particular scene from Hetalia with Japan sitting there with a grin and a happy blush while a bunch a cute animals love on him and very much enjoying the moment is something Snake would be doing at least once. It would throw everyone off since he jokes about eating pretty much everything he sees, but Otacon would be the one of the group (the other fighters as well as Mei Ling, and Colonel Campbell too since they show up in Brawl in the codec talks for Snake) watching from the sides with everyone else with a fist up to his mouth and a blush on his face as he thought about how adorable the situation was to him.
Over time, maybe Snake would get more openly reactive to things he finds cute for the common kuudere humor plot progression, starting out small and something to make that peak for certain cute things. Like Sargatanas from As Miss Beelzebub likes towards Gossamers for example, though not as animated and loud (at least outwardly, but might be in his head on occasion), probably just a bit giggly and sighing happily a bit. Cute people will get an almost shy reaction from him once he reaches the peak of showing fondness of cute things, like a cute boy or something and it tugs right on Snakeās heartstrings, and he doesnāt really know how to approach the boy properly and makes crude statements instead since itās all he can really think of to do. Boys with longer hair (or from the neck down) and/or pretty eyes would probably elicit a quicker reaction from him. Not just boys can manage it, girls can too (I headcanon Snake as bisexual so I apply it here too)
Cute boy: *does something, especially something like a little giggle or a curious look*
Snake:Ā *hearteyes.exe*
Snake: *slides over with a semi-shy posture, holding out whatever heās holding if he is holding something at the moment* Y-...You can call me whatever you want. Maybe da-
Cute boy, in a cheerful tone: Iāll just keep calling you Snake if thatās okay!
Snake: *bites down on the thing he might be holding if itās something like a pillow and lets out a quiet and struggled noise* This is difficult...
Or along the outward blankness and inward cute things love situation:
Peach and Palutena: *talking about something and both holding little pink hand purses with designs on them based on what theyāre happily discussing*
Snake: *comes in the room* Whatās up.
Peach and Palutena: *look at him in surprise*
Peach: O-oh, hello Snake! W-we were just talking about Super Fluffy Fantasy Friends!
Palutena: *holds up her hand purse to show an array of fantasy creatures resembling cats and dogs* Itās about these cat and dog type creatures that go on a bunch of adventures and fight evil with magic and the powers of love and friendship.
Snake: Oh. I see. Snake, in his head: I LOVE IT. THAT ONE CAT THING IN THE MIDDLE IS FLUFFY AND THE GLITTER ACCENTS FIT THE ITS COLORS WELL.
Peach: W-weāre so sorry for troubling you with such things, Snake... Weāre sure you arenāt interested in such childish things...
Snake: Nah, itās fine. Donāt worry about it. Snake, in his head: FLUFFY. FLUFFY.
I think a LOT of bromance humor would happen between Otacon and Snake, because...yāknow how those two are and their relationshipās reputation even among the English voice actors. Also because it would be technical OtaSune/Snotacon fanservice... Like Otacon adoring Snake is and thinking heās really awesome, and Snake is completely dense to how Otacon gets with it sometimes while everyone else is just like āDude, are you sure you just think heās really cool and a best friend? Youāre acting like a lovestruck middle school girl right now...ā Maybe one of those common kuudere VS. someone else cooking scenes where the kuudere isnāt good at cooking and finally made something good to who it was made for (this case Otacon), and the kuudere had one of those moments of looking down and smiling, blushing from how happy they were.
-just for a little break out of the postās intended purpose I would find that cooking scene and Snake smiling from cooking something really delicious and getting complimented on it would make me cry from the amount of sheer intensity of the emotion I would release in the squeal of fangirling Iād be releasing from the deepest depths of my existence XD-
Iāve put WAY too much thought into this for not even having this thought in my head for 24 hours yet, my mind is WAY too hyperactive when I like an idea enough LOLOL
#random ramblings#imagines#not meant to be perfectly in character with this so don't take it that way#Metal Gear Solid#Solid Snake#Otacon#Princess Peach#Princess Toadstool#Lady Palutena#Super Smash Bros#character imagines#forgive me for loving the idea of common type kuudere Snake so much...

Top 12 Anime (That I've Seen) in 2018
Happy New Year, one and all! You read the title right, starting off 2019 with a change of format with not ten, but TWELVE entries in this year-end list! Not only that, Iāve actually watched more current stuff than last year!Ā
Allow me to explain...
Just in case you havenāt seen my list from last year, this list will consist of anime Iāve seen this year and not necessarily anime that came out this year. Why? One, because I watch whatever I want to watch. And two, because not a lot of people do end of the year retrospectives this way and itās a fun time sharing older series that many might not have seen, yet (not exactly original though considering that I stole this idea from videogamedunkey). Now that you understand the rules, letās begin!
12.Ā Fastest Finger First (2017)
Starting off the list is a little anime series that may have gone under most peopleās radar when it first came out. I, myself, forgot about it until a random clip showed up on my FB feed via Crunchyrollās page and decided to seek it out. It was a fun enough time with learning about the ins and outs of the Quiz Bowl world while getting behind our young heroes that aim to be the best. Admittedly, this shows rolls with plenty of anime cliches which almost drowns out the few surprises it has. One of those surprises is that these high school characters actually look like high schoolers! Thereās no,Ā ālolz, thatās a freshman in high school, but she has double D boobs! And that one over there is over six feet tall high muscle tone! Cuh-razy!ā
Okay, that was more of a personal note, but itās still appreciated. Anyway, itās a cute show and definitely worth the look.
11.Ā Ray:The Animation (2006)
Starting out is a show that I did a review on earlier this year so Iāll keep this, as well as other shows I reviewed already, relatively short. Ray is about a young woman, whom is an amazing doctor in her own right, tackling medical mysteries as well as her own foggy past. Medical dramas may be present in live-action shows, but itās quite the rarity in anime especially having a woman in the leading role. Unfortunately, the lackluster animation and art keep it from going higher on this list, but all the good it has is REALLY good (albeit with some silliness here and there).
10.Ā Beautiful Bones: Sakurako's Investigation (2015)
Iāve already had my say in regards to this series, but, just to clarify for this list, my feelings have not changed. Holds itself well for a mystery, has an interesting protagonist, and is visually beautiful. I would like to know more about this story, but that would mean reading the light novels. It may be low on the list because of it being a glorified commercial, but I would recommend this anime regardless.
9. Devilman Crybaby (2018)
Once you have seen this list as a whole, youāll notice that most of the stuff Iāve seen last year was on the lighter side. You can blame Devilman for that because I needed some fluff for a morale boost after watching that! However, I didnāt place it at the bottom of the list for a reason and thatās because I recognize this anime as the game changer it is. Devilman is both visually and narratively different from what weāre used to in anime and we, as a community, need more of that. We need more shows that start up conversations on not just meaning, morals or symbolism, but rather on what we want to see and how trends should change. Now, if youāll excuse me, Iāve yet to recover from this show, so Iām going to look at some pictures of adorable puppers.
8.Ā Pop Team Epic (2018)
Apparently, a LOT of people didnāt like Pop Team Epic and the attention that it was getting. I...donāt quite get it? I guess you can be allergic to fun? Sure, it was weird and off the wall, but that OP was a banger, though! Okay, so the humor didnāt jive with everyone, but it sure jived with me!
7.Ā Aggretsuko (2018)
A fun look into the life of a young individual stuck in an average desk job (except, you know, with animals), Aggretsuko was an honest to goodness surprise for me last year and Iām glad itās getting a second season.Ā
6.Ā Violet Evergarden (2018)
Iām sure that there are going to be a lot of people that will be mad at me for not putting this higher, especially since I think itās this high to begin with on its merits of being a beautifully animated show alone. Yes, it had some really good character moments and one episode that got me very emotionally invested, but for some reason I find this spot to be just right. Hey, it beat out six other shows, right?
5. Interviews with Monster Girls (2017)
If yaāll arenāt angry now hahaha!
Seriously, be thankful that my bias only had this anime this far. What bias is that? As sad as it sounds, this show opened up my eyes to the wonder that is Sakie Satou aka my new, overall, waifu.Ā
Sakie aside, this show has a lot going for it. I can just imagine if this kind of story was handled by anyone else our main protagonist, Tetsuo Takahashi, would have been some bland self-insert with no personality, but instead, heās one of the showās strong points. For one, Tetsuo is a freakinā adult and freakinā acts like one. Second, instead of a generic, lean body type, heās pretty jacked which I like to think provides some manservice for those looking for it.
IwMG is a delight and you should check it out if you havenāt already.
4.Ā Hinamatsuri (2018) Ā
Hinamatsuri was considered to be not only the best comedy anime of 2018, but the best anime, period, of 2018. Those claims are easily understood because the show has many things going for it: comedic timing, slapstick, and a variety of interesting characters. Iāve already said my piece when I reviewed it earlier, so all I have to say is to check out Hinamatsuri for a good laugh or seven.
3.Ā Teasing Master Takagi-san (2018)
This show has charmed me so much. It was such a surprise. However, Iām going to keep this short because any longer will leave me gushing over and over again about how freakinā precious these two kids are.
2. Nichijou (2011)
Nichijou is such a delight! The pacing, rhythm, and slapstick are ALL on point! I remember seeing some images back in the day and wasnāt all that impressed, but it wasnāt until one or two years ago that I came across some actual footage and was left impressed. A truly hilarious show with its own style. Go and watch this if you need a laugh.
1. My Hero Academia [S1] (2016)
So, yeah, I was about two years late to this party, eh? But after two years of seeing a lot of my friend fall head over heels for MHA, I thought,Ā āEnough is enough, time to see if all this hype is merited.ā
It was, it so freakinā was.
I paced myself as best as I could thinking that I could space out the (current) three seasons because Iām not huge into binge watching, but I practically watched the first two seasons back to back. I enjoyed it that much! Heck, it got my brother to start watching it and heās not that big into the anime scene! However, between the first two seasons, I felt that the first season was the stronger of the two and thus its place on this list.Ā
Sorry for this being WAY late, but Iām glad to have finally finished this. Hereās to another year of being a huge nerd! Hooray!

I watch anime, night 2
Nichijou: I still have no idea what the fuck is happening and I love it. I think I came in with a better understanding of what the show is, and I think that helped me appreciate it more. Its sense of humor is weird as hell, and I very much enjoy that it puts me in a constant state of not knowing what's going to happen in the next five seconds. I'm here for it.
Konosuba: Yeah, I really don't like the protagonist. I'm going by the three-episode rule, so honestly I might only give this one more episode. I do like the rpg references and all the characters who aren't the MC, but the dude himself is just bleh to me, and it's hard to really get into something when the person you're supposed to be following doesn't click with you.
I'm not even giving this man a visual. š¤
Nagatoro: WHY. THE FUCK. DO I. LIKE THIS SHOW. By all logic I should absolutely hate this girl, and yet here I am looking forward to episode 3. I really don't want to think I can be so easily swayed by cute character design, but goddammit if I'm not engaged in this one. There's something about her that's kind of fascinating, and the segment in the restaurant where she just absolutely shuts the dudes down was great.
AND LOOK AT HER SMUG FUCKING FACE.

Do you have any anime recommendations?? I just finished Noragami and I'm dyinggggg. (I would prefer if they had dubs because I have a really hard time watching the show and reading subtitles, but it's ok if they dont tho! I'm kinda desperate š
)
OH BOY;;;
Welp, idk if youāve thought of watching bnha (boku no hero academia, or my hero academia) after seeing me talk about it so much here, but obviously itās the first thing Iād recommend!! Overall itās a shonen action anime, but itās not 100% fighting all the time lol! The overall sense of humor and how different the main character Izuku is from most other shonen anime protagonists drew me in, and after that, it was a wrap lmao
Nichijou is one of my favorite series too! itās a slice of life/comedy, so itās not very action-y (in a traditional sense), but itās really funny and Absolutely Wholesome!
Mob Psycho 100 is another great one, especially if you like psychic stuff!! I aināt even got the words to explain it!! And season 2 is coming out soon!! YEEHAW BABEY
Macross Delta is great too, itās a mech/space drama anime sort of combined with an idol anime, so it might seem a little weird at first if itās not your usual genre, but BOI?? IT GOOD (And you donāt have to watch all the other Macross series to understand whatās going on! They reference them from time to time, but you could easily watch Delta without having watched the others lol)
I know bnha and mob psycho are dubbed in english, but nichijou and macross delta arenāt, which is an OUTRAGE, but theyāre definitely still worth checking out, I think! ^^
#I've got more but I don't want to stretch this post out more than I already have lmao#txt#Anonymous

Nichijou: Series Reflection
You know, I feel like Iām repeating myself on this particular point a lot, but throughout my watch of Nichijou I was constantly thinking back to Daily Lives of High School boys. Because conceptually, theyāre pretty much the same show: a bunch of loosely connected comedy segments with the slightest nods at continuity that exist to find meaning in the meaningless, to, as I put in in my reflection on Daily Lives,Ā āhighlight the little odds and ends in life that we may not remember as readily as, say learning an instrument or getting into our favorite college, but in some ways are the true defining moments of our lives.ā But I never felt like Daily Lives ever managed to find that meaning in the meaningless, and ended up feeling just kind of meaningless itself because of it. It never got over that first step of figuring out what it was supposed to be once it had tossed out the rulebook.
But now, I understand. All this time, the show it was trying to be-the show that actually captures that ethos- was Nichijou.
Nichijou finds that meaning in the meaningless that Daily Lives never could. It understands why the little moments matter so much, and it understands how to convey that feeling in the most humorous way possible. Make no mistake, this is probably the funniest straight-up comedy Iāve ever watched (with exceptions made for the works of Jun Maeda, which arguable have made me laugh harder but donāt primarily exist to make you laugh in the first place). Aided by some of the most stunning animation and direction Iāve ever seen, pretty much every joke hits, and plenty of them had me all but choking on my own spit. I will remember moments like the temple in the rain and āGOD IS DEEEEEEADā as some of the best jokes in anime history. But the reason these jokes are able to hit so hard so consistently is because Nichijou understands the emotional logic behind them. It understands how we interact with the world and its many absurdities, and how we can see ourselves in these situations no matter how bizarre they may get. In other words, it understands the millions of tiny miracles that make life matter.
And it extends that understanding beyond the realm of comedy to create one of the sweetest, most genuine atmospheres Iāve ever seen. Everything about Hakase and Nano is the most pure, wholesome wonderfulness ever, and their infectious camaraderie spreads throughout the entire show, dousing every character in a warm, welcoming sheen. I canāt remember the last time Iāve seen a cast this unreservedly lovable in every conceivable fashion. Every character works, even the tiny bit parts. I get invested in their petty, overblown issues, from hopeless crushes to parental misunderstandings to the simple desire to make friends. And the show imbues them all with such nuance and charm, expressed in a million subtle animation details, that I feel like I know them as well as my own friends at this point. THIS is what makes Kyoto Animation the king of anime. Literally no one else operates on this level of raw, unfiltered humanity, with this level of respect for every individual spot and scar, with this level of understanding of the complexities and mundanities of ordinary life and why they matter so damn much. The fact that all of this still comes through in a production as unapologetically daffy and cartoony as this is proof that everyone who just dismisses their work asĀ āmoe trashā has no idea what theyāre talking about.
In fact, I really have nothing to criticize about Nichijou. At all. Like, maybe some of the jokes and segments couldāve been a little funnier, but in terms of serious storytelling flaws, Iāve got nothing. And that so rarely happens. But itās proof of just how wonderful a show this was. So when I donāt end up giving it a perfect score, understand that itās just because a 10/10 for me is so special and important that I only give it out to the rare few shows that I donāt just love, but that hit me on such a deep personal level I canāt imagine my life without them. That said, Nichijou is worth all the praise in the world, for its humor and heart alike, and I happily award it a score of:
9/10
Man, Iām gonna miss this show. Thanks for joining me on this ride, and I hope you stick around for the show that will take its place! And according to the random number generator, that show will be:
Kimi no Todoke
Whatās that? I finally get to talk about a classic rom-com? HUZZAH! See you all next time for the start of a new adventure!
