Do you have any advice on how 2 not overwork a drawing? Over-detailing my art (to the detriment of the final result) is a big weakness of mine, and ive been working on it lately, but simplifying my art is way harder than I thought itd be. I keep getting stuck in a mentality that less detail = less effort, even though all my struggling should prove that isnt true lol. & I almost always like my simpler drawings better, even though that makes me feel kinda lazy…as long as it’s fun tho, right? [1/2]
I’m asking here bc one of the things I adore about your work is how confident and striking your paintings feel. I really admire the way colors and shape language interact in your art…I always want to keep looking to see what I can find hidden in the details, but they don’t take away from the main focus of the image. How do you manage to strike that balance? [2/2] (sorry for the long question lol)
honestly this is still something i struggle with at times! but some things that have helped me are:
- identifying which parts i tend to overwork the most. for me thats faces so i have made it a conscious habit to render faces last. that way i can match my level of face rendering to the rest of the piece.
- working on all parts of the painting at once. some artists are able to work on a painting from section to section. this is not me, regardless of detail level. jumping around all over the place keeps me from focusing too hard on one section above others. i even take this one step further by working on 2+ paintings simultaneously but there is something wrong with me for this one i'll admit.
- staying zoomed out for as long i can. this goes in hand with the previous point but when you're zoomed out its easier to lay down the biggest/primary color blocks without the temptation to detail. once the main color blocks are nicely balanced its easier to pick out a few points of interest to add spots of detail to, and restrain myself to them. (easier said than done! but i try!)
- getting comfortable with backtracking / deleting overworked sections and layers. this might seem scary but this has saved my ass more times than you might think. i always save a version of my drawings before i merge everything / start rending so i can always copy over earlier sections if needed.
- cold turkey removing details from the equation for a while. i did this more from necessity than choice, because i was struggling with my health a few years back and had zero energy to sink into art for long hours. but looking on the bright side it helped me realize what details are/aren't necessary and how to build my features from big -> small. this progression of my patho art shows pretty well how i introduced details back into my work over time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
but yeah! sometimes i do still find myself creeping a little too close to overwork territory for comfort, even with all these safeguards in place. in that case i have to accept that not every piece i put out will be my 'best' and that perfection has no place in art. that's not the point of it!
simplifying forms isn't easy, the same way abstract art isn't lazy. but with all things it can be learned with enough practice. and if you decide at the end of it all that you still like drawing a lot details, it might be a matter of readjusting how / where you implement them. best of luck <3

glamrock bonnie theory!
ok hey fnaf fans! my brains been brewing with a theory about exactly what happened to glamrock bonnie for a while so i wanna share what ive come up with !!
now i know theres a lot of people under the opinion that monty had decommissioned bonnie a short time before the events of security breach, but in my opinion most of the evidence people had pointing towards monty being the perpetrator has been rendered prettyyy baseless after the release of ruin.
so now im beginning to point fingers elsewhere.
specifically, fazbear himself.
OK but just hear me out because i know what ur all thinking !!! but a close relationship has been established between bonnie and freddy in both the base game AND in the ruin dlc !!!!!! how could he possibly become suspect to these claims !! and to THAT i say... Motive.
now by no means am i implying that there was malice behind my theory of events, i know freddy and bonnie were obviously extremely close before his decommissioning (gay robots hehe..) but id like to draw attention to how much emphasis was placed on bonnie and freddy throughout the game! i have a feeling that this was intentional.
one thing that caught my attention in particular was the fact that there are now confirmed to be 2 glamrock freddys.
at first glance, a second freddy seems to make sense considering that in the majority of the base game endings, freddy ditches the plex alongside gregory. of course they would need to use a second freddy after all that happened in security breach! but even so, this is easily disproven by the fact that all of the animatronics remain in the state gregory left them in, implying that fazbears immediately went out of business after the events of the game.
this implies that there must be another reason for the existence of 2 freddys.. now i KNOW this still seems a little skeptical considering that prototypes arent often used in the final product, but at the same time it does seem like the prototype freddy had been used as the main attraction before, a clue towards this being the gift in his stomach hatch. and anyways, would fazbear entertainment really spend all that cash on a whole other model after creating a functional prototype..?
but regardless of whether or not u think that theres another reason behind the existence of 2 freddys, there was clearly some emphasis on fazbear - like the graffiti along the vents, the intentional prototype print on the bottom of his paw, the focus drawn to him and bonnies relationship.. this along with monty's origin story, which seems to subtly shun freddy throughout, gives me the feeling that there must be more to it than what we initially assumed.
now to shift our focus to the possible motives of bonnies decommissioning.. what if he had been the first target of glitchtraps virus? this would make more sense now that glitchtrap is basically confirmed to have been the mimic all along because of COURSE the mimic would have a rabbit bias if its basing its behaviour off of afton!! and now that bonnies body has been found in bonnie bowl, monty being the aggressor seems to be off the table. sure his aggressive nature initially would place him under suspicion, but this flaw isnt any different to chicas food cravings and roxys perfectionism, i dont think his temperament is anything more than just another flaw displayed to show off the ai's sentience. under this premise, i have a slight suspicion that monty was simply used as a sort of red herring to cover up the truth of what happened.
so what actually happened?
what if while spending time with bonnie in the bowling alley one day, freddy was suddenly presented with the impossible task of facing off against the first victim of the virus. while attempting to fight off the unknown virus, maybe bonnie had begged freddy to put a stop to it for his own sake in order to save his best friend from destruction during the small moments of clarity he experienced while fighting for his own autonomy. the amount of damage on bonnie suggests a struggle, so maybe freddy was forced to obey bonnies request when he realised it was too late for him, grabbing a bowling ball and following through as a very last resort. perhaps this is why a second freddy had to be built, what if the aftermath of losing his best friend by his own hands, as well as the damage he wouldve sustained in the struggle, rendered freddy beyond repair.
BUT of course this is just speculation based off of the hints given to us, so if anyone has any criticism feel free to share! and even if this ends up being disproven, its at least an angsty headcanon i quite enjoy..

I’ve been doing some reflecting on this past year, and I really truly think it is the most artistic improvement I have made in any span of time. Of course, I’m going to be completely insufferable about it and have collected my best piece from each month with a few personal notes, so why don’t we go on a sprint down memory highway together?
January
Tumblr media
At the start of the year, I was both adrift between fandoms and art styles. I was mostly aiming to find which style I could keep using, finish pieces quickly yet still feel proud of. It certainly worked in the moment, but as I pushed my boundaries more it didn't stick. Still, I look back on this style fondly! also proper throwback to my old username that i had for far too long
February
Tumblr media
This was the start of me working on colour palettes. I lay down my main colour in the background and fit the rest of my colours around that. It was a good way to start experimenting!
March
Tumblr media
Then the shift back to finding my style- I particularly like how the hair turned out in this piece! I also started trying more interesting poses here, and actually properly attempting hands.
April
Tumblr media
I didn't finish any pieces in april as I had started working more hours and didn't quite know how to balance myself creatively at that point. I did lean into this style of sketch much more, which was good fun while it stuck around but ive leant away from it in more recent times.
May
Tumblr media
Not much to say about may in particular, lots of the same things as the past few months with improvements here and there! just some steady progress :)
June
Tumblr media
Cue the crunch of getting character refs done before artfight, and then only actually finishing one (which isn't actually complete, even to this day). But hey, more solid reference for My Guy ! I also leaned into drawing furries a lot more and have improved heaps in the difference of proportions!
July
Tumblr media
artfight baybee!! no artistic differences, but it was a lot of fun scouting out other peoples character designs! I do hope to participate more this year :3
August
Tumblr media
back to colours, though this month felt like a bit of a backtrack. Don't get me wrong, I do quite like this piece, but contrast-wise it doesn't have as much visual clarity as I would like. Regardless, a good learning opportunity!
September
Tumblr media
Fun fact, I rendered this one entirely in greyscale! This was the start of me getting back into hatchetfield after being reminded of NPMDs release, and lets be real this part of black friday was chilling so I had to do something about it! I consider this piece a landmark in terms of my art journey.
October
Tumblr media
Once again no real finished pieces, I was too busy watching nightmare time while waiting for the group watch of npmd. I did do a lot of studies of star wars characters from their live-action shows though, which was a fun learning experience!
November
Tumblr media
This was the piece where I applied pretty much everything I had learnt throughout the year. contrast, colour themes, interactive environments and poses, the lot! and also. its them. how could i not
December
Tumblr media
A perfect piece to wrap up the year with! Another step up from november, this applied lots of what I had learnt and pushed my boundaries even more. I have been aiming for more realism to actor's faces and body types, not out of it-has-to-be-canon-sake, but rather learning how to accurately depict someone's likeness from a few photo references. good practice for both live-action and animated characters!
Overall last year was absolutely wild. I can't wait to share my journey with you all as we go into 2024 strong!

!!! 2024 art summaries yayy !!!
is my handwriting legible ??? it doesnt matter this is moreso just for me lol
also i really struggled finding things to put on the timeline bc the beginning of the year i was sooo Artblocked i didnt draw at all and the end of the year all i have are wips and sketches... the struggler
regardless this was a good art year for me i think!!! lots of highlights yay see yall next year <333
(past art summaries and more yapping below if u care...)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
reminiscing and revisiting:
2023
i miss u kirizono........lowk i peaked here
goal: better composition -> tbh no i havent done anything too compositionally difficult... character(s) on colored background galore
goal: let ocs be seen -> i posted One(1) Once...barely... but im working on them more than i was before so i need them to be more fleshed out before i let people see them. But i am so obsessed with them now so i think its a win regardless
goal: do more studies, stop struggling!! -> i havent done many more studies but i havent been struggling that much?? do i have a better understanding of things or have i not left my comfort zone... actually that will be another goal
2022
the last time a variety of colors were seen in my art 😔💔 may they rest in peace
"lineless/rendering! ended up being not for me lol" -> i love rendering now never give up !!
goal: artstyle consistency -> not rlly lol but its fine im exploring <3
goal: better landscapes/backgrounds -> this is once again the goal for next year we'll get it this time for sure 🙏
goal: be cringe publicly! have fun! -> i am having sooo much fun but im not cringe i am so based actually... also the move from twt to here has done wonders for me. I used to be so scared and miserable all of the time about art but its chill here
reflecting:
lowkey i feel like i regressed this year in terms of skill which is kinda sad,,,, i havent drawn a background in ages, my anatomy is still kinda bad and inconsistent, idk how clothing works, etc what ever
but maybe im just being critical bc of the skill/knowledge curve thing!! at least thats what im telling myself <3
however also im trying new things that are like not related just to just illustrations (which i used to be the only thing i drew ever). like im getting back into designing ocs and coming up with aus/stories (ive always been such a bad uncreative writer its not even funny but im trying anyway!!) and im using my sketchbook again and ive tried animation ?!? which i used to say i would never do bc it seemed so hard (it still is) so maybe im just like expanding outward instead of deeper idk if thats a good thing or not ...master of none maybe
but tbh its all good honestly im just yapping bc i really am just enjoying art!! i love drawing and i love sharing my art and i love drawing other peoples ideas and !!!! yippppeeee
soon i hope i get more confident and share more of my own ideas, i feel like the art i draw is ??? not that deep or exciting just characters Who Are There or just like mildly pretty. I wanna be able to tell stories and show emotions and such in my art ykno?? but thats so hard
i wanna share ideas more but i feel like i cant unless i have art attached to it?? (part of why i wanna practice comics, bc some of them are easier to share that way) and also im just scared i guess lol. But maybe i just need to get over myself and just do it!!!!
Any Way, i love being a drawer next year we will Grow🌱🌱🆙

Ok im probably not the best person to ask this because ive been using krita for YEARSSS. like. last time I used firealpaca was 2018 which is... 6 years ago TT_TT but i did a brief pass-over of what firealpaca looks like now and it seems like the things i personally didn't like about it from 2018 are still present. and also the only computer drawing programs ive used are firealpaca, krita, and a really old pirated version of paint tool sai that was so bad it didn't even have a circle tool. absolutely abysmal for my eddsworld phase. but ya i do really like krita a lot tho. explanation under cut cuz its long
First one's pretty minor, but firealpaca does give you a popup immediately lol. i know it's easy to get used to, but its one of those small things where i'd rather not be asked to buy something or update my fully updated software every time i open the program. Firealpaca also just opens you up to the drawing ui, and krita opens you up to a specific launch ui that i really like
Tumblr media
it shows all your recently opened files with a thumbnail too so you don't really have to go rummaging through your files every time you wanna draw which is super convenient. and as you can see i literally just never enabled news LOL which would probably tell me about any new krita updates idfk i never enabled it.
Another one that's more major to me is that the firealpaca animation system is actually ass omfg. they say like "wowww you can do onion skin !!!" but thats literally it. and i like to animate from time to time so that's a no-go for me. firealpacas animation system is manged through YOUR LAYERS???? AND MAYBE A FOLDER???? jail. awful. and you have to wait for firealpaca to render a preview. if you ever decide to animate, krita is way better. it actually has a proper timeline and hold frames and real-time previews. it might not be the super best professional animation software cuz it does fight with me a little bit, but for someone who just makes small gifs every once in a while, it's wayyy more useful than firealpaca without being overwhelming which i like. heres what the animation workspace looks like:
Tumblr media
the final real qualm i remember having is that the blending on firealpaca was just..... not great. I downloaded it again breifly to check how it's looking and it's still not looking too hot. For the examples I just used my mouse with no pressure sensitivity mostly because i was too lazy to set up my drawing tablet, but also it shows what one consistent opacity/pressure sensitivity looks like
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the transparent bg one is firealpaca and the tan bg one is krita. it seems like the difference in opacity of the brush doesn't affect the blending strength of the brush at all in firealpaca. 1 and 2 are the flat watercolor brush and the blending on that one just looks ugly 2 me sorry. 1 is at 50% opacity and 2 is at 100%. 3 is the fluffy watercolor brush at 50% opacity and 4 is the same brush at 100% opacity. it blends to the same amount regardless of opacity, so it seems like the same brush calculations are happening, just literally at a lower opacity. For the krita one, i used the wet paint brush and 5 is 100% opacity and 6 is 50% opacity. It gives you a lot of variety and control for the amount of blending you want based on pressure sensitivity which is super handy to me; i would not have been able to do those crazy digital paintings i used to do years ago without it (pre-mysn days cuz my style has since changed, but u can find it in my pixiv).
Also idk if im stupid or what but i can't find any method to change the blending mode of your brush in firealpaca. it's a neat feature that lets you just do a few brushstrokes with a multiply blending mode (or whatever blending mode) without having to make a new layer and merge it.
But yeah I'm sure firealpaca has its pros. I saw a bunch of cool pattern brushes on their site which seem like they'd be super cool to use, it's just that for my personal tastes i remember thinking that moving to krita was a huge improvement. the only thing that takes a bit of getting used to is that krita doesn't have a clipping function, you just have to alpha-lock a layer within a folder, but you get used to it (theres a "create clipping group" option that does this for you).
Bonus for if u ever get krita:
Tumblr media
this is my favorite drawing brush in the entire world i can't draw without it. just a basic toothy brush but it's my life blood. and you should totally download the ballpoint pen brush. just search up krita ballpoint pen brush. its not like i use it all the time or anything but it's super fun and i like it and if u use krita i think u should mess around with it at least once X3

reapers
I. OVERVIEW
reapers are beings that serve a single purpose—to uphold the natural order. they do this by keeping souls on their rightful path and ensuring the balance between light or dark magic by returning it after death. while it's thought they originate from the fey realm, they are considered by the fey to be a primordial species, and not much in known how they originated. or who brought them into existence.
they're not required for death to occur, though they must be there after when a soul is passing, and though they do have the power to extend life, they know that in doing so for one they're causing a more horrific death for them soon after, so they typically don't. occasionally in prelude to great destruction, reapers will come in a mass gathering to prepare.
there is only one account of a reaper ignoring the natural order, when that reaper who had been kidnapped and forced to kill was freed, he turned on and killed the person who kidnapped him. this is the only known occasion of any reaper ever being the cause of a person's death directly, and it was in self defense and not seen as an egregious offense but rather as an exception. it is well known in the supernatural world that trying to force or sway a reaper leads to your death, in one way or another, and even in the supernatural world they are often outcasts.
despite appearing stoic at times, reapers are apparently as capable at experiencing emotions as humans, as on many occasions reapers have shown sorrow, annoyance, compassion and anger. they also appear to have free will, although they rarely act upon it because they have been trained to know their calling is their ultimate duty.
II. STATISTICS
reapers are known to be the true neutrals of the supernatural world, immortals with specific given purpose. currently, no one knows that the purpose reapers are given can be anything but the guidance of souls - and the reapers who know are making sure it stays that way.
LIFESPAN
reapers are immortal and can be made between the ages of 18 and 850 years old.
CREATION
reapers are created prior to times of great destruction, such as major natural disasters, genocide, and war.
TRANSFORMATION
a reaper cannot transform into anything else.
PROCREATION
reapers do not reproduce and cannot create other reapers.
III. GOVERNANCE
reapers seem to think of all other reapers as something kin to distant relatives, as they were all created to do one job. there is no known hierarchy for reapers and all seem to think of each other on the same level of respect and courtesy as one another, something almost unheard of in all other species. these beings are dedicated to the natural order and see good and evil as both having a purpose and thus a place in the world, and as such do not see a need for a hierarchy or ruling power, believing they are all under their duties as keepers of the natural order and therefore without any real power.
IV. ALLIANCES
known for their neutrality, reapers have occasionally been sought for issues that require a party with no allegiance to light or dark magic. but more often, their requested to deal with matters of death, that require a being more knowledgeable.
banshees banshees will occasionally interact with reapers when they are both drawn to a soon-to-be deceased person. as they both deal with death, there is often a mutual understanding and respect between the two species.
ghosts due to the nature of their abilities and purpose, reapers work with spirits pretty often. they are the first seen in the moment a spirit is created, to guide them on their path or to let them continue until they are ready to go.
V. FOES
reapers are misunderstood by most supernaturals. seen as cold and otherworldly, they are the keepers of death and coming across one is a chilling experience, not knowing if the end of the line is just around the corner.
necromancers from a reaper's opinion, necromancers harm the natural order. from a necromancer's opinion, reapers are bad for business. necromancers use spirits that have yet to be guided by a reaper, as once a reaper has finished their job the spirit is gone for good and cannot be called back.
poltergeists due to the nature of their abilities and purpose, reapers work with spirits pretty often. they are the first seen in the moment a spirit is created, to guide them on their path or to let them continue until they are ready to go. however, when a ghost becomes a poltergeist and gives up on moving on, this can mean an inability to do their job on the side of a reaper (or a need to do so with additional means) which can be largely inconvenient for them.
VI. PHYSIOLOGY
BEGINNER
- REAPER PHYSIOLOGY reapers are born immortal, born looking a single age typically between twenty and forty without any change in appearance due to the abilities they will acquire over their time. they are for all intents and purposes dead and unable to be killed, but can be sent to the underworld. they are born with full knowledge of their place in the world, to protect and ensure the natural order.
- DEATH SENSE having this power means the reaper is capable of sensing the coming of death, able to determine when someone is dead or dying or if others have died in a specific location. reapers know when it is someone's time, but their devotion to their purpose keeps them from telling this information usually.
- AFTERLIFE TRANSPORT the user is capable of taking the souls of others, willingly or otherwise, to the afterlife. the reaper can come and go as they please to this life and the one after, transporting the souls they have reaped.
NOVICE
- DEATH INDUCEMENT this is the power to cause death. user can kill anyone and anything using varying means, either instantly, slowly over time, after certain conditions are met, or after a certain period of time has gone. may be used by touch, at a distance, simply willing it to happen, or performing certain ritual.
- WEAPON MANIPULATION this is the ability to manipulate weapons, traditionally a scythe, but swords are common too. regardless of what weapon the user has, it's always sharpened and infused with death. the reaper can summon or create their chosen weapon and are automatically proficient with it, allowing them to both defend themselves and take life when necessary.
COMPETENT
- FEAR INDUCEMENT the power to evoke extreme fear and horror in others. this can be used to enhance any feelings of fear until the victim literally dies of fright, thus making their job easier.
- CHRONOKINESIS (MINOR) at this level, the ability to manipulate time is incredibly weak. the reaper only manages to slow time for a few minutes and it requires most of their energy to be able to perform. they are unable to manipulate time in any other form.
PROFICIENT
- DESIRE FORM this is the power to take on the form of others greatest desire. they can appear as their victim's dead loved ones to ease the transition to the other side, or whatever may help them best do their job.
- INVISIBILITY users can render themselves unseen by the naked eye and become invisible in visible spectrum. the user can move about an environment unseen by others and act without being observed. reapers can choose to let certain people see them, while staying invisible to others, something that makes it easy to interact with souls when in public.
- CHRONOKINESIS (MODERATE) at this level, the reaper is able to manipulate time for longer, though the ability still comes with a massive power draw. the reaper can slow for an hour and pause time completely for a few minutes.
EXPERT
- ETERNAL REST INDUCEMENT this is the power to grant eternal rest to anyone or anything. user can grant death to anyone or anything that is stuck being alive, such as reanimated corpses and users of cursed resurrection, but without actually having to kill them. this can bypass/ignore powers that force the target to stay alive unnaturally and also ensures the target effected can stay dead by granting them peace of mind in the afterlife. this ability is seen as their ultimate ability and saved for special circumstances, such as when a poltergeist is disturbing the natural order, but otherwise reapers typically do not feel it is their duty to interfere with someone's unfinished business.
- DEATH EMPOWERMENT users become stronger, faster, more durable, etc. by the deaths of others, enhancing their powers.
- CHRONOKINESIS (MAJOR) at this level, the reaper is able to manipulate time for far longer and with less of a power draw, the reaper can slow time for a few hours, pause time completely for a few minutes, and can keep time going for an individual while time is stopped.
VII. WEAKNESSES
reapers are notoriously difficult to kill, however they can be trapped using witches' sigils, and be burned using incinerating spells.
while it's not known why, a seelie fey's blood is also deeply harmful to a reaper, and will burn their skin if they come into contact with it.
they also cause electromagnetic interference while reaping a soul or using a lot of power, often causing the lights to flash and other electrical circuits to give out. often, this alerts others to the presence of a supernatural.
reapers who are still training their gifts can also get temporarily stuck in time or stuck mid-teleportation, if they are not focused enough or do not have enough power built up. this can result in a mess; torn limbs, wide open cuts, and occasional decapitation. for a reaper, climbing the ranks is immensely difficult, and often its the eldest reapers that are the most powerful.
(note: we would like to note that we do allow the use of creative weaknesses in play, such as a witch and human coming up with their own decision on how their abilities counteract one another, but we urge you to remember that we are trusting you to keep this balanced and fair. as such, the weaknesses we list will be minimal but are by and far not a full list of possible weaknesses. should we notice a character who seems too powerful, you will be asked to bump that character back down or be denied continued play here on unholy for the sake of creative freedom for all members. this includes the knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of the species that your character would have here on unholy.)

InXile Entertainment’s The Bard’s Tale IV uses its heart on its sleeve: Starting a brand-new game throws you right into a full-motion video cutscene of four actual human individuals– 2 of them equipped with clearly phony fairy ears– sitting in front of exactly what looks like the interior of a hand-painted inn. Three of the stars pay attention intently as the fourth plays a tiny harp, introducing them to the tale of the video game you’re regarding to play. The whole thing is saturated in a cozy sepia tone, and at the cutscene’s close, the stars tighten as if they’re reversing into a still picture. It’s weird and unpleasant, but lovely.
Offered the collection’ old-school origins, it makes good sense that The Bard’s Tale IV really feels deeply timeless. It reminds me of the old computer system games I utilized to play on the chunky Windows COMPUTER in my family members’s basement work space. Its presentation might be mediocre, but below the surface area lies a fascinating battle system as well as fascinating globe.
Right here are four points I picked up from playing the game’s first 2 and a half hours.
Tumblr media
1. The World Is Interesting, Even If You’re New To TheSeries Prior to you reach the major menu( and prior to the marvelous FMV “fairies” ), a cutscene gives you with a guide on The Bard’s Tale’s world: Some gigantic plant-Cthulu gods called the Famhair turned apes right into people, that went to battle with the elves as well as dwarves. The plant-Cthulus were eventually defeated as well as sealed away by a song, sung by a human lady cursed to sing it for infinity.
I’m not sure how the humans proceeded to exist in harmony with the remainder of the races regardless of being built by evil gods, yet with any luck that gets discussed in the lore elsewhere in the video game. As somebody who’s never played a Bard’s Tale video game previously, I appreciated exactly how the video game opened up with a tale that established some interesting tension for the world and presented the power of track. It made me hope I will get involved in something in a similar way impressive.
As soon as you’re in-game, the story you’re greeted with is different. A team of spiritual activists called the Fatherites has been implementing non-humans as well as magic individuals, which places the modern, magic-using travelers guild you’re a part of on the chopping block. The guild is struck, and also you’re compelled to take off below ground to the damages of the old guild.
You quickly start to learn that a strange team has actually been sending out representatives disguised as participants of the non-human races to harass people in order to prompt even more persecution from the Fatherites. The Bard’s Tale IV left me legally interested to discover more concerning how the in-game tale and also the opening cutscene are linked.
Tumblr media
2. There’s A Potentially Deep Combat System The Bard’s Tale IV’s fight happens in on a four-by-four grid. Your party has accessibility to the eight areas directly before you, and your adversaries inhabit the 8 opposing spaces. Your positioning figures out whether you could reach adversaries with your strikes, and also whether the opponents can reach you. There are directional attacks that do damage to all opponents within a certain column, as well as strikes that push or pull opponents within their grid. This suggests you could establish intriguing combos like tossing caltrops into the field before adversaries with your rogue, after that drawing them better with your boxer’s ridicule, making sure that they take damages as they conform the spikes.
Positioning your celebration additionally impacts the outcome of the fight. It’s possibly a negative suggestion to put your rogue and your magic-user ahead, so you have the capability to relocate your competitor or your bard to the cutting edge between battles. Also the best-laid strategies could go awry. If your opponents get the decrease on you, your event’s placing will certainly flip, placing your squishiest members in damage’s method.
Tumblr media
3. There Are Some Cool Exploration Elements I had a good time with the game’s systems. As you obtain event members, you access to Songs of Exploration, spells that can be utilized to public knowledge doors and also address problems. In the opening hrs, it was evident which song I was expected to make use of. An ability called”Hidey-Bide”reveals hidden thing caches, and also”Jarnel’s Eyes “exposes concealed corruption in the atmosphere, such as shadowy figures disguised as villagers, as well as a huge location of the map. These capabilities made me feel a little a lot more connected to the fantasy of being a bard.
Locked doors worldwide sometimes require brief problems where you relocate gears around to produce a functioning system. These problems are a basic addition that could typically be finished by just relocating the equipments back and also forth up until I discovered the option, yet they were much more intriguing than conventional “locate the trick” doors (though I located some of those, also).
Tumblr media
4. The Presentation Is … Mixed The Bard’s Tale IV’s voice acting isn’t half negative, but whatever else is mediocre. There are a number of kinds of cutscenes: the hand-drawn/painted cinematic that presented the globe’s lore, the FMV intro, as well as in-game animated scenes where characters stroll about as well as speak to each other.
Many bizarrely, the video game’s major scenes are built with flat, fuzzy pictures of the character versions, removed as well as plastered in front of pre-rendered histories. These pictures do not relocate (no lip-synching) besides being deformed and stretched gradually to create the impression of life. If you require assistance imagining this, imagine the Hearthstone motion picture trailers, yet made with flattened 3D assets … and poor.
The video game’s in-game visuals aren’t the very best, either. Lights is fine, structures are sloppy, as well as character designs are chunky and also lack range.
It additionally wasn’t as amusing as I anticipated given the series’ reputation as one that attempts to make players laugh with all type of drunken debauchery. There were a couple eye-roll generating jokes, like a pocket-picking skill for the rogue called “dental caries search,” yet I generally really did not hear or review a lot that felt like it was aiming to make me laugh. Oh, except for when your opponents transform about and wave their asses at you. That occurs in some cases. Yeah …
The Bard’s Tale IV’s opening hours really felt a little harsh around the edges, but there sufficed interesting suggestions to leave me curious concerning the last game. We’ll see if InXile Entertainment will make the most of The Bard’s Tale IV’s prospective when the game releases on COMPUTER on September 18.
One point’s for certain: I’m eagerly anticipating more of the fake-elf-eared guy. Allow’s obtain more cheesy FMV in computer game, please.

The Indian Competition Watchdog’s Application of the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index
[Suyash Bhamore is a 3rd Year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) student, NLIU Bhopal]
Background and Context
Economics, more specifically, tools of economic analysis have always been accorded paramount importance when conducting competition analysis. The Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI) is one such econometric tool, which is widely accepted by various competition regulators as a measure of market concentration, with India being one of them.
HHI is used to gauge market concentration in an industry. Computing HHI is a fairly easy task. One simply needs to take out the sum of the squares of market shares of all the entities operating in the relevant market. This will result in a number ranging between (close to) zero, indicating the presence of a large number of firms with each having approximately 0% market share denoting perfect competition, and 10,000 signaling existence of a sole firm capturing complete 100% of the market i.e. a monopoly.
HHI = S12 + S22 + …‥ + Sn2 where ‘n’ is the number of firms present in the market
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) typically weighs the market shares along with the market concentration level in evaluating proposed mergers. The aim of such an evaluation is to ascertain if sanctioning the proposed merger would result in an appreciable adverse effect on competition (AAEC) or not. This is where HHI proves its utility. HHI finds a mention in Form II (the Form) under Schedule II of the Competition Commission of India (Procedure in regard to the transaction of business relating to combinations) Regulations, 2011 (Combination Regulations). The Form prescribes the information to be provided for by the parties for gaining CCI’s approval. Clause 11.6 of the Form instructs the parties to determine and showcase the change in concentration levels in the market that the proposed combination, if given a go-ahead, would actuate. The Form even pronounces the trust that CCI reposes in HHI as a measure of market concentration, by overtly directing the parties to provide an estimate HHI in the Form.
Jurisdictional Practice in India
This section analyzes CCI’s jurisdictional practice and takes stock of its checkered outlook in employing HHI while appraising mergers and acquisitions.
Assessing the merger between Grasim Industries Limited and Aditya Birla Chemicals (India) Limited (Grasim Industries Case), the CCI implicitly banked on the HHI thresholds demarcated by US Department of Justice (US DOJ) in the Horizontal Merger Guidelines. In another order, the CCI categorizes the market for, firstly, fungicides for grapes, and secondly, MAH grafted polyethylene as moderately concentrated on the basis of findings of HHI. In the merger between Airtel and Telenor India, the CCI ascertained a 243-point HHI increase in the retail mobile telephony services, with Gujarat being the relevant geographic market as significant. However, the CCI in the preceding orders never adduces any framework or a schema as its guiding lodestar for navigating through HHI valuations. Further, in a scheme of arrangement notice filed by Aircel Limited, the CCI declared an increase in HHI of 300 in a moderately concentrated market (1800 HHI) not significant enough to cause AAEC, without elucidating upon from where it arrives at such a conclusion.
In the Grasim Industries case, the CCI held post combination HHI and consequent increase in HHI beyond the levels of ‘regulatory tolerance’, but it failed to expand upon what regulatory tolerance standard it is referring to. The point made being is: what guiding principles does the CCI refer to in demarcating markets as moderately concentrated, highly concentrated or whatever the case may be? The CCI being the primary forum of resolving anti-trust issues in India cannot take decisions by leaning on conjectures. This brings into focus the important question of whether the conclusions arrived at by relying on HHI should be attributed to the regulator’s wisdom or a pure exercise of discretion.
Table 1: The motley trends of HHI application in India
S.no. Parties HHI Demarcation 1. Airtel, Tata Teleservices Limited and Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited Greater than 2000 (for the relevant market) Highly concentrated 2. Dow Chemical Company, E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, DowDuPont Inc., Diamond Merger Sub Inc., and Orion Merger Sub Inc. 2070-2075 (for the relevant market) Moderately concentrated 3. Grasim Industries Limited and Aditya Birla Chemicals (India) Limited Greater than 2300 and 2400 (for the relevant products respectively) Moderately concentrated 4. Soda ash cartel (India) under the umbrella of Alkali Manufacturers Association of India 2538.67 Highly concentrated
The foregoing discussion sheds light on the CCI’s polychromatic character when it comes to drawing inferences from HHI. Seemingly, the CCI has placed reliance on HHI on numerous instances, but it never came close to advocating a benchmark of thresholds to be adhered to for construing HHI. It is evident that the CCI had assumed to itself a lot of discretion in interpreting HHI on the pretext of taking hints from developed competition law jurisdictions, but never attempting to expatiate on the same.[1]
This changed in 2016 when the CCI in the acquisition of DLF Utilities Limited by PVR Limited (DLF Acquisition case), consciously laid down an outline of HHI thresholds to be administered in India. The order categorizes markets with a post-merger HHI of below 1000 as un-concentrated; between 1000 and 2000 as moderately concentrated; and above 2000 as highly concentrated. In conjunction with the absolute post-merger HHI, the magnitude of increment in HHI holds great utility as well. A HHI increment of more than 150 and 250 in moderately concentrated and highly concentrated market respectively raises a likelihood of AAEC.
The thresholds laid down in the DLF Acquisition Case concur with stipulations specified in European Commission Guidelines on the assessment of horizontal mergers. It appears the US DOJ has subscribed to a more lenient delineation, according to which a HHI of more than 2500 is required to result in a highly concentrated market, in contrast to a lower-rung 2000 followed in European Union and India. The aforesaid discussion evinces the CCI’s transformation from a body applying HHI haphazardly into a body having a coherent scheme of its in place.
Apprehensions Concerning HHI – Cause for Alarm?
Even though HHI is a highly trusted concentration index, it is not devoid of certain beleaguering issues, which are often cited by critics of HHI. Some flagrant apprehensions relating to the validity of HHI as a concentration index, pertinent to both India and regulators worldwide, have been presented below:
(i) The fundamental assumption underlying the idea of HHI, i.e. that the bigger the firm the more likely it is to engage in anticompetitive conduct, is inadmissible. Such an extrapolation is subject to challenge, as each dominant entity does not indulge in anti-competitive activities. Creation of dominant position is not questionable, only the abuse of such dominance is.
(ii) A database of precise market shares of even the smallest of firms is critical to arriving at a true and fair HHI. Gathering accurate data when it comes to minuscule firms is subject to errors and omissions, which obstructs meticulous calculation of HHI. Similarly, a minor fault in determining the market shares of eminent firms can also lead to a highly distorted HHI.
(iii) The numerical thresholds guiding application of HHI are unsubstantiated and bereft of an economic or mathematical sanction. There even lies uncertainty as to why the shares are always squared and not cubed when calculating HHI. This divests HHI of its authenticity as a tool of economic scrutiny.
(iv) HHI places sole reliance on numerical values in disregard of the qualitative aspects of markets. Important peripherals like entry barriers, operating costs, geographical dispersion of the undertakings and economies of scale are not accounted for, rendering HHI nugatory after a point in time.
Undermining the usefulness of HHI on the basis of few shortcomings, which are applicable to virtually every measurement index in existence, would be similar to throwing out the champagne with the cork. It needs to be realized that HHI is to be conceived only as the first filter regarding the character of the proposed combination and not be-all and end-all of the merger evaluation process. Such a line of thought has been advocated by the CCI in its still-afresh order on Ultratech’s acquisition of Jaiprakash Associates Limited and its subsidiary Jaypee Cement Corporation Limited. Therein, even after assessing a post-merger HHI of 5588 with a considerable increment of 400, CCI decided against finding dissemination of AAEC in the market. This came in light of, firstly, the underutilization of Baga Cement Plant’s capacity owing to lack of environmental clearances; and secondly, the countervailing increased economic efficiency in cement production. This is indicative of CCI’s progressive outlook in defining the contours of HHI by aligning HHI with other relevant elements and not solely relying on HHI.
Regardless of the infirmities experienced by HHI, it is a convenient index, often hailed as the successor to the four-firm concentration ratio and an ideal measure of market power. There is a greater need to supplement HHI with qualitative data, like information on the entry barriers existing in the market, to reinforce HHI’s position as a dependable tool of competition analysis.

Bradley Wright-Phillips’ new account; and Frank Lampard hems into relevance
Plus: the Rapids triumphing operate terminates unexpectedly; Torontos good is back to his best; and Jason Kreiss triumphant return
A record-setting darknes started in atypical pattern for Bradley Wright-Phillips.
The Red Bulls striker invested most of the equal in emptines, unable to get a clear stroke in a hazardous caste, thanks in part to a suffocate Chicago Fire defense. But as has been the case since he assembled the team in 2013, a little bit of space was all he needed to show his form.
And on Sunday, it served to break records.
Wright-Phillips extra-time equalizer was his 63 rd as a Red Bull player, putting him past Juan Pablo Angel as the all-time franchise purpose scoring leader.
Of course, I wont lie I like to break records, right holders of MLSs single-season goal scoring record said after the equal. I try not to think about it, but when you say these kind of things, it makes me proud.
A streaky striker by nature, Wright-Phillips has once again begun to warm up, tallying three goals in his last two competitions, violating the double digit goalscoring threshold for the third largest season in a row. But regardless of Sundays record, it is the nature of his latest aim that has Red Bulls boss Jesse Marsch excited.
Ive been defying him to draw more performances belatedly in video games. They did a good job of being hard on him. Every team we play knows Bradley is important. They focus in on him and Sacha, and Brad still manages to find ways to get goals, Marsch said.
As good as Brad is, we are trying to encourage him to have a cut-throat attitude, that even if he doesnt have a lot of suggestions in video games, he simply needs one to make a difference.
On Sunday, thats all it took for the Red Bulls to salvage a degree from near cataclysm in the unfriendly confines of Toyota Park. I made a lot of work into what I do, Wright-Phillips said. And when they are able to make an accomplishment like that, it builds me glad and proud.
Welcome back to Major League Soccer, Jason Kreis
The two-time MLS Cup win and former NYC FC boss rejoined the tournament after a short sorcery away from video games. His wage? A 3-1 succes in Orlando against the New England Revolution.
In some lanes, Kreis astonished with his approach to the match. In others, “hes having” stayed the same. The hallmark of a Kreis side the diamond midfield was shunned for the conventional 4-2-3-1 that Orlando has employed for most of the season. His decision to start Antonio Nocerino and Servando Carrasco over Darwin Ceren and Cristian Higuita was surprising, as was his alternative to start Brek Shea on the bench. All starting decisions, he said, were based on formation in training.
But most of his lineup decisions followed recent precedent. The back four remained intact. Molino, who has lined up across every midfield statu during Orlandos recent gauntlet of fixture congestion, detected a home on the left. Kaka rendered centrally behind Larin, with Hadji Barry giving his third consecutive commencing from the year on the right.
New England searched poised to play-act spoiler, putting in an excellent road effort through the opening 45 minutes. Kei Kamara opened the scoring, waltzing his method past the Orlando defense and learning the net exactly 18 instants in.
But Orlando saw their model in the second largest half. It took Larin less than a instant to score, drumming Bobby Shuttleworth at the far berth with a calm finish. Second half sub Shea transmitted in a cross in the 63 rd, observing Kevin Molino to double the make. Molino capped off the nighttime with a brace.
But the darknes belonged to Jason Kreis, who managed to reignite a sleepy Orlando side to their firstly succes since June 26 th.
Obviously[ Im] extremely, very happy, Kreis said after the pair. I ponder the week of toil that the players and staff have put in was excellent. One of the best weeks Ive ever been involved with. To see that work terminate in a really strong accomplishment reaches me extremely happy.
Frank Lampard margins into relevance for NYC FC
Frank Lampard is the worst Designated Player signal in Major League Soccer record: that was the narrative six short weeks ago. And with good reason. After all, his sketchy stay with New York City FC has been defaced by false-hearted starts, contractual fluster, fitness matters and questionable harm concerns.
But his recital on Saturday against the Colorado Rapids introduced an exclaiming symbol on one of the most remarkable comeback floors of the MLS season.
Since rendering from a calf hurt, Lampard has been on fire. Donning the captains armband in place of the suspended David Villa, the Chelsea great rekindled his past species, tallying the first hat-trick in NYC FC history en route to a 5-1 win over the Colorado Rapids.
This was no small feat for Lampard or NYC FC. The Rapid were undefeated in 15 accords pate into Saturdays encounter an enormous achievement within the frameworks of the parity-laden MLS. Their protection granted a paltry 14 aims through 20 matches leader into the weekend, the best evidence in the conference. Eight of their first 20 coincides was concluded in shutouts. Likewise , no crew has been able to score three against the Rapids backline all season long with or without Tim Howard.
And no single musician has scored more than two goals against them, either. Until Lampard devastated the working party. The Englishman, who has been the top scorer in MLS since his yield as a starter on 18 June, “re opening the” scoring in what was initially a drab liaison.
Lightning immediately put a pause to the equal, but NYC FC accompanied abundance of energy on the restart. A second wayward fumble from Michael Azira threw the Rapids down a person in the 37 th minute. With Colorado reeling, Tony Taylor redoubled the extend before the half, and Steven Mendoza saw it three shortly after the second. But “its been” Lampard who induced an memorable curtain call. First he curled a shot past Howard and then completed his hat-trick with fines and penalties. He is now among the top-1 0 goalscorers in the league.
Not bad for a guessed has-been, right?
He demo true-blue leadership today, team-mate Jack Harrison said. He was a true captain at Chelsea and he demonstrated it today. He supported everyone incorrect showing that we do need him and hes a key part of our success.
An abrupt resolve to a good thing
The Colorado Rapids forgot ugly against NYC FC – and that is putting it mildly.
We shot ourselves in the hoof, said Howard. Its a small tone, its easy to get around, easy to defend properly and we didnt do that as a group today. Once the red-faced poster happened, the game was finished.
Despite the result, the Rapids should still be proud of what they have accomplished this season. After all, they continue to second in the West with one of the stingiest securities in the league.
Now tells placed their achievements in context. Compare the teams current success to their woes in 2015. They have already overshadowed their win total last year with 10 wins in 2016 compared to nine in 2015. Their defense is actually comparable this year: in 2015 they allowed merely 22 aims through 21 competitors as opposed to their current 19 tolerated. Their offensive wasnt all that different either, with the 2016 Rapids tallying 24 purposes, compared to the 19 through 21 scored last season.
So whats the difference? For starters, Colorado are scoring first and regarding on to acquires a key factor for any hopeful. Last-place season, they managed to tally first in eight of their opening 21 accords. That was key to their fleeting success on the year( 4-1-3 ). This time, it has been the bedrock of all the teams success, with the Rapids becoming a solid 10 -0- 3 when feeling that first destination. Merely NYC FC have opened the tallying more frequently( 14 of 21 accords ).
The team have also learned how to use residence battleground to their advantage, exiting undefeated at DSG Park (8 -0- 3 ). That wasnt the action last-place season as Colorado extended 3-4-4 in the same time frame.
Jermaine Jones must really been a part of their success. The team is undefeated when the midfielder starts( 4-0-3 ). But Pablo Mastroeni has been a key catalyst as well. Continuity and identity is already foreign words for the Rapids under Mastroeni. Now, key offseason acquisitions have bolstered the golf-club, and Mastroeni has effectively molded his high press method to his actors strengths, may be required for his young roster to cheat resists on turnovers in the attacking third.
The result has been unfettered success and no single loss can take that away from them.
Torontos best is back to his best
No team in Major League Soccer razz their fates on the back of a single musician fairly like Toronto FC and their golden goose, Sebastian Giovinco.
On Sunday evening, the Italian striker borrowed the maestro tag from countryman Andrea Pirlo, orchestrating and executing on each of Torontos purposes in a 3-0 shutout of the Columbus Crew.
It took all of eight times for him to show his form. A long-range bomb ricocheted off the back of team-mate Tsubasa Endoh, pulsating Crew keeper Steve Clark for the early extend. Endoh was credited for the goals and targets – but Giovinco stirred it happen.
Just 16 a few minutes later, the Toronto offense began weaving their road through the Crew defense, terminating on a hand and proceed between Jay Chapman and Giovinco. The former Juventus star took a curling fire on the outside of his hoof to double Torontos advantage.
And he wasnt done there. Giovinco forced Steve Clark into a diving save in the 55 th hour. One instant subsequently, a dangerous criticizing string watched Giovinco smack the same post not formerly, but twice, scarcely missing on his chance for a fortify. Unable to find two seconds purpose, the Italian striker reverted back to the role of distributor, this time connecting with Jozy Altidore for the final goal of the match.
His 12 th goal of the season sets him exactly one behind conference leader David Villa. His two facilitates on the night delivering his season total to nine as well, tying him for second tournament broad. Those stats are all the most impressive when you conceive his nine-match scoreless shortage.
Weve said it before and we will say it again: the success of Toronto follows the success of Giovinco. Toronto are 5-1-2 when Giovinco tallies. When he doesnt? An humiliating 3-6-4. His most recent, highly publicized nine-match tallying drought resulted in a paltry 2-3-4 record for the expected playoff challengers. With last weeks hat-trick and this weeks yield, the team have already been strung together two triumphs for the first time since April, putting them four items clear of the ruby-red line.
The Seattle Sounders can tell you the dangers of relying on a single outstanding chassis to move the squads fortunes. Two thirds of the channel into this season, and they are still trying to find a solution for the loss of Obafemi Martins.
Toronto may find themselves in a same blot. But for now, Giovincos brilliance continues to grace the Great White North and they will follow his lead, for better or for worse.
