I’m always a little Meh on people making Cody the same age (or older) than Obi-Wan in AUs that don’t take place in the gffa. Because. Listen.
Hot fresh grad Cody with some impressive job as like... a newscaster or a male model or some military thing... dating a bedraggled rumpled wet cat of a middle-aged Bug Scientist, and thinking this easily-distracted disaster is the hottest shit ever, while his brothers look on in absolute confusion and mild horror.
Obi-Wan can clean up nice and be this refined professor type with perfectly coiffed hair and perfectly groomed beard and perfectly pressed sweatervest combo and a perfectly cultured accent... but then he sees a rare Parasitic Worm in the bushes by the koi pond, and suddenly he’s covered in mud and bleeding and holding up this specimen with demands for a mason jar so he can get it back to a lab and see if they can get this into that one breeding program over in the university three states over.
And 22yo ‘could have literally anyone he wants’ Cody is like 😍
#I'm like... mostly okay with ‘close in age Obi-Wan is less than five years older than Cody’ but I balk at AUs where Cody is older#That's a slap in the face it is#codywan#commander cody#Obi Wan Kenobi#star wars#the clone wars#modern au#phoenix talks#will I ever shut up about this particular tract? No#Take the tropes you see in ob*kin fic and apply it to codywan and your life will become infinitely funnier

Excerpts: [First stints] The opening stint saw graining and high degradation for all runners and lap times rose sharply from around Lap 10 onwards. On Lap 14 [Norris] was called to box for new hard tyres. He then emerged behind Ocon – and Ferrari saw a small opportunity to cover him, and so boxed Leclerc the next lap. Unfortunately for Leclerc, it didn’t work out for him and he was undercut by Norris. Leclerc’s complaints on the radio at stopping to emerge behind the McLaren were met with reassurance that the race was most likely a two-stop, and it was the correct point to box. Piastri then covered both one lap later. In [Sainz’s] opening stint, he was too far behind Norris to attempt an undercut and Ferrari were still considering the one-stop possibility. Therefore Sainz pushed to extend as he thought it was too early to stop. Later, he reported that the graining was improving and lap times may recover. This was important information for Ferrari. Sainz was then called to pit before being undercut by Hamilton so the lap time improvement was crucially not seen by the other teams. [Second stints] As graining emerged on the hard tyre for all three leaders, [they had to decide] when to stop for the final set of hards. Piastri was asked if he thought a one-stop might be possible, but said no. [On Lap 32,] Leclerc is given the ‘box to overtake’ call on Norris as Ferrari looked to attempt an undercut. But Norris then pitted, prompting Leclerc to stay out. He was then told they will extend the stint to build a tyre delta. In the second stint running in largely free air, Sainz pushed Ferrari discussion on the one-stop strategy possibility. The pit wall and Sainz discussed whether they should cover Hamilton’s second pit stop or remain on the one-stop option – with Sainz favouring the latter after reporting that his tyres were still good. At this point the information is given to Leclerc that Sainz is targeting a one-stop strategy. Leclerc agrees that it is the best opportunity to win and immediately begins work on the tyre saving required to pull it off. [McLaren third stints vs Ferrari staying out] [Having boxed with 15 laps remaining,] Piastri needed to average 1.5 seconds per lap quicker [than his pre-stop pace] to make the pit stop beneficial. His first lap after the pit stop was indeed 1.5 seconds faster than before. However, he had five back-markers to overtake as well as Sainz. The back-markers cost variable amounts of lap time and Sainz then cost Piastri around two seconds of race time – which is crucial when considering Piastri only finished 2.6 seconds behind Leclerc at the flag. So although Leclerc then took the plaudits and the glory on the Monza podium, he couldn’t have pulled off such a famous victory without the help of his Ferrari team mate.
#big brained strategist doing bryan bozzi's job for him#carlos sainz jr#scuderia ferrari#f1#monza 2024#interesting perspective i hadn't thought of was ferrari timing carlos' pit so other teams couldn't see his tyres improving#so only they know the recovery potential on the tyres#seems like ferrari considered a one-stop but charles' side of the pitwall balked in reaction to mcl's strat (orange text)#then only after carlos had his discussion with ricky they realised they shd consider it again (red text)#ppl been shitting on mclaren for being too reactive to/worried abt others in their strat and ferrari nearly made that same mistake#carlos strategises his own win and/or has outright pace on everyone: useless driver has never won without ferrari sacrificing leclerc!!!#charles gets wins again after two years because carlos played the team game: renowned professional doesn't know what she's talking about!!!#the real sacrificial lamb#too bad oscar and tom didn't say “they are sacrificing carlos” in his final stint

The lack of understanding and empathy for cult survivors is really alienating. Because the same people that (rightfully) get upset hearing domestic violence jokes or rape jokes will make jokes about starting a cult.
#i logically understand that people actually mean commune or group or something innocuous#emotionally... all i can hear is 'i have a desire to abuse/harm a group of people'#and like. the same people that would balk at any other abuse joke don't think of it like that when it comes to cults#cults are not just a silly little group with weird beliefs teehee#they do actual harm#and I'm sick of people joking about subjecting others to the same trauma i went through#and i *logically know that people are just not educated*#it still deals psychic damage to see#ex cult#religious trauma#rape ment#i just#nobody feels safe when my trauma is free game to joke about

it fascinates me how often a choice of first or - gasp - second person storytelling can create so much derision and discourse. having preferences is fine obviously, and as a writing choice it Does matter, because all writing choices matter. i don't really... notice?? anymore??? or like, i DO notice, but more in a "what information will the narrative give me access to" kind of way.
i know second person especially can be jarring if you're not used to it, because it's "he would not fucking say that" but for yourself. but it's also like... so many song lyrics have "you" and "i" and to me they're just. a story that exists separate from me. (to the degree lyrics exist to me at all as something other than Sounds that are part of a music piece, but that's the audio processing disorder/'did not grow up with english as a first language and never bothered to decode lyrics' of it all speaking)
i suspect a lot of derision towards first person narratives comes from a derision towards the genres in which it is a staple, rather than that it's somehow uniquely bad. there's really not much difference between a first person perspective and limited third person perspective??
#when i read the night circus by erin morgenstern many years ago the second person interludes were so alien and strange to me#what a bold and fascinating choice!! along with the black edges of the pages the book felt so strange and unique!!!#fast forward to now. reads a good short story. sees comment balking at the second person narration. realises i didn't even notice#also this is just me musing abt stuff i am not trying to discourse or discard anyone's very real feelings n opinions#ive also been thinking abt song lyrics and how many people take them as something deeply personal and by neccessity relatable#and like that's often the intention of the music!!!! it can be something so deeply personal!!!#i rarely think of music as relatable on account of. well mostly i don't hear most of the lyrics#second a lot of the music i listen to is like. folk music as a form of storytelling#and third a lot of music abt falling in love and stuff is just not gonna resonate with an aroace person and that's. so much music#my personal music priorities are Vibes and Banginess. i#am so sleepy rn

OOC this, OOC that, have you ever considered "To be loved is to be changed"???
#fanfiction#writing memes#I'm just kinda worried people won't like what I'm doing with a character#like tbf it will be an alternate timeline where he doesn't *literally fucking die* so like it'll be moderately justifiable#but I also wouldn't really blame people for balking at it#(this is for my The Mummy 1999 fic but feel free to tag your own!!!)

I love trans headcannons as much as the next person but there are times where it circles a little to close to being homophobic
#like a bit of it is a 'cannabilism as a metaphor for love is so overdone its not even reloutionary anymore <- spent too much time on tumblr'#but it does also leave a bad taste in my mouth when the skinnier weaker disabled and more effeminate part of the pair is hc as trans#esp when theres not really much in the story that would like make it a proper possibility#if ur wondering yes ive been trying to read jayvik fanfic and balking out of 70% of them cause its either#viktor disably disabling himself all over the place while being disabled and not able to walk on his own (cause hes disabled)#or fics where you can just *tell* that they decided to hc viktor as trans cause then they can just write them as a het stereotype

Already said this but since everybody is too busy on the failmance happening im gonna say it again: Vi starting their confrontation by saying “never thought [my sister] would orphan kids” only to be stopped from killing jinx. By an orphan kid.
#its about how jinx specifically calls vi her sister. thats WHY she has to kill her she wont balk from that#but vi disowns her as a sister (crazy bc she was her only blood family but thats nbd in zaun) bc thats the only way she can kill jinx#vi just GASSED zaun and is a COP now jinx should be disowning her#it wouldve been SO good if jinx flipped the s1 finale situation#and started asking what vander or mylo or claggor would think while wearing his stolen goggles#if vi wasnt so hot yall would actually call out her bad decisions or red flags but go off ig#bc this scene is also after she watched jayve KILL a kid. not even orphan one! and she was LITERALLY like ‘so? kids be dying.’#anyway the fact that isha is also aware of cait trying to shoot jinx so she hugs her. puts her head in the mf WAY on purpose#and vi has to have the same moment as jayce. ‘what have we done’ you became the very thing you swore to hate sweetheart :))#to have a child from zaun. your home btw. look at you in an enforcer uniform and shes full of fear and rightous fury.#its that day on the bridge again. vi had that same look in her eyes when vander carried her away. when did her lines and her values become#so easy to sway. well bc she loves someone of course. but she betrays you too. i can only laugh#its stupid bc s1 jinx is literally only doing what vi grew up wanting to do for vander. like actually.#bc its the same that they cannot steal from topside so it wouldve meant stealing and fighting and eventually killing people in oposition#like your sister was building nail bombs at 9 years old. you encouraged her. ‘theyll work eventually’ and then she kills and vis like 😰😰🤢🤢#bc she only sees silco. ugh kill me#can somebody talk about THEM please yknow one of the main focuses of the show#arcane#netflix arcane#arcane season 2#arcane s2#arcane spoilers

small but favorite Rana (slash Neve slash Neve/Rana) moment #2 - after Knight-Commander Lennos lets Bataris walk because Bataris' magister father bought him off, they both glare after him for a moment before Rana turns to Neve and promises, "I'll find a way to fix this."
Which I find a) hot and b) an impactful way to phrase it. It's not just "I'll fix this" but "I'll find a way to fix this". It makes the promise not about the fixing, but about the finding of a way - it's a vow of effort and commitment, despite expected challenges, not just guaranteeing a result...
Something that Neve would feel conflicted about, because at this point in the story, she doesn't trust that people will follow through on the good they promise to do [for her]. She knows that good intentions don't always mean a person will show up [for her!] when it counts.
So I find it Interesting TM that this promise and the lingering shot of Rana walking away are delivered through this over-the-shoulder angle, hiding Neve's reaction while also inviting the player to see Rana from her point of view and also wonder: will Rana follow through after all, or will she, like Lennos, turn her back on not only Minrathous, but Neve herself?
#by Interesting TM I do mean homosexual among other things#tangential but:#in Tevinter Nights Rana does fail to show up for Neve when she needs her#Neve approaches Rana for help hoping that she'll eschew her orders to do the right thing and support her#and is disappointed when Rana balks#and as a result Neve is nearly killed by Aelia#but at the 11th hour Rana does show up and with help in tow#winning the day after all#I don't necessarily think that Rana is *thee* person who hurt Neve so much that she's Like That in her romance#but I would expect that this adds to the tension between them to this day#rana savas#neve gallus#neve x rana#dragon age#veilguard spoilers

Ya know, coming across posts like this is really an experience of "you're so close to the answer yet so far away."
Like, how detached from reality are you that you can actually wonder this? It's like the second someone who's in the working class actually breaks the mold and begins to earn probably still not even half of what their labor earns for their employer, all of sudden these sorts of bad unintentional-actors decide it's time for them to voted off the island.
It's even worse when they (appropriately) get dragged in the notes and this is their reply:
"Hmm actually I was just speculating this whole time haha devils advocate ecks dee 🤓🤓"
These are the same people who will be like "the working class needs more affordable housing!" and think the solution is more rent-serfdom to landlords but they just aren't charging as much.
#Also I'm assuming op is a lib since they seem to balking at gun ownership#Like bro how do you think the working class ever got any sort of collective comeuppance?#They shot at the ruling and wealthy class#No member of the landed elite respects or fears an unarmed peasent

a while back I had lunch with a couple of coworkers, one of whom asked me why I like public transit and public libraries—in a genuinely, sincerely interested fashion. it was not the first time I've been asked—or had people express bemusement about this—and so, despite being caught totally off-guard the first time, I did actually have an answer this time, which was I try to support things I want to see in the world.
and i felt (and feel) like this is extremely obvious. if we all assume that someone else is going to make sure the things we care about exist and exist well, so that we don't have to do anything—chances are good they're not going to get the support they need and they, in fact, won't exist or improve. So, the counter to that is to take the steps you can to provide that support. (duh)
but I feel like there is this mindset (that is heavily class [and likely race and gender] influenced) of like....someone else will take care of it. And it's about public transit or libraries and independent bookstores and it's about voting and advocacy and community. All these important things that require maintenance and perpetual engagement—the same way that you can't just wash your dishes once in your life and never have to do them again (unless you switch to disposal dishes, but then you still have to take out the trash).
I get that there are a lot of reasons why people feel disenfranchised and fatigued but...at the end of the day, life is composed of an endless series of actions that influence what options are available to you in the future. whether it's voting or going to the library instead of amazon or taking the bus instead of an uber....like. yeah you're gonna have to keep doing it if you want to have an impact. there's no silver bullet that's going to magically land us in utopia with only perfect choices, so you're just going to have to keep choosing the best option you've got to get you that next step closer.
if there isn't a bus that takes you from doorstep to doorstep, you still take the bus that gets you closest. if the dishes are dirty, you wash them. if you want the benefits of society, you show up.
#and like yeah sometimes i still take an uber or i order something online because it's faster or cheaper or easier#this isn't meant to be like. idk self-aggrandizing or whatever#but i guess i'm just.....tired?#of people wanting change wanting things to get better#and then balking at the idea of showing up in even the most minimally low-effort ways or the most important#fucking vote#and then protest and advocate and bother the fuck out of your representatives#and some days you're going to be too tired or busy or just not want to give them a call and that's okay#the point is progress not perfection#we will never ever ever live in a perfect world because that doesn't exist#we can work to make the world better through conscious action#blech okay getting off the soapbox#this has just been bothering me for weeks lol#i had this conversation in like. march orz#personal

There is soooo much in this beat, from the literal lampshading going on between the lamp and Lestat's tie being the same colour (incredible mise en scene), to Louis trying to downplay the fact that he went to an opera and enjoyed it, to Lestat's look of betrayal at that downplaying, to Paul immediately seeing that as leverage around Louis' sexuality and Louis and Lestat's relationship, and just !! Mess! I love it!
#it's honestly so insightful on so many levels#lestat takes that diminishing of the opera like a hit to the heart#i know i've had asks before abotu louis hating theatre being fanon (sorry you sent that amidst other Stuff and i didn't answer it#i will though)#and you're right in a lot of ways because i don't actually think louis hates it#but i think he probably has mixed feelings about it#and i think it's pointed that he doesn't seek that particular artform out in the way that he seeks out books and photography#even over time#i tend to think he likes what lestat took him to because lestat was very selective about what he took him to#and it goes more to the fact of knowing what louis might be open to#as opposed to louis liking theatre broadly#like i do that with a lot of friends / have done it with partners before too#where they've told me they don't like theatre and i've taken them specifically to shows i think appeal to their interests#which they've most of the time enjoyed#but i'd never take them to 90% of what i see and wouldn't call them theatre-enjoyers y'know?#which i think we see with him and the theatres des vampires in s2#which i also think is a part of him balking here#iwtv 1.01#sophie rewatches iwtv

that being said it IS true that at this point, spoken french & written french are practically two separate languages
#possibly rendered even harder by the advent of social media & the internet because nowadays even writing uses the spoken/oral rules#there's such a big gap between the written language & the oral one that it sounds (and looks) jarring to switch from one to the other#so actually it's not such a big leap to realize that some people are only fluent in one language (oral french)#is this why people balk at the idea of reading anything that was published before like 1990? because of the genuine language barrier?#that'd be interesting. who knows
