the more i think abt it the more i realize what a big influence thg was on my taste in stories + my own writing

like a lot of things went into influencing how i gravitate to 'dark' media and tragedies but somehow i never remember to count thg. i was sat there when i was 11 reading the hunger games like 😦

it's not so much the 'dark' stuff itself that stuck with me as it was the extremely realistic trauma responses and the way the books illustrated over and over again how the human spirit endures even as it breaks

and what it had to say about pyrrhic victories and cycles of violence, and how it humanized the capitol citizens too

(and the part where it was a scathing critique of very real institutions, which went over my head a bit at 11 but which i was able to grasp by the time the movies were coming out)

Anyway
