What is your opinion on artists claiming the comparison between Asha and Isabella is racist? That they think it had to be racist that Asha and Isabella are described as to being alike.
It would be one thing if these are real life people and actors that are going through the "all brown people look the same" treatment, in which yeah that of itself would be racist
But they aren't. They are pixels. Animated characters that do in fact resemble one another when they really shouldn't. Disney animators designed these characters, meaning they of all people would understand the fundamentals in design philosophy. When it comes to creating character designs, there are a lot of factors to consider that most people in the industry had to learn. Although looking through concept art again, you can really tell Disney executives meddle with the overall look of the movie and the character Asha. (Although I will say one concept art was literally Isabella’s face but I digress)
I kinda explained what I mean in some of these reblogs and posts I made
But yeah, overall Asha’s design is very unoriginal and disappointing given the concept art we see of her in Amazigh clothing. If anything it’s racist on Disney’s parts for not pushing that mold just to play it safe
