silly rant<3
hey so what is the cutoff between whats considered masking and whats considered lying i am asking this as a liar lol. like i find it interesting as fuck genuinely where is the line meant to be drawn. i do believe a lot of autistic people who mask and cant discern this line end up overcorrecting severely and developing what's called a personality disorder and like there are studies around this diagnosis massively being a thing that people get when theyve gone their whole lives unsupported for autism/adhd because sometimes the response to that is i need to do absolutely anything to be perceived as a human being and i dont know what it is about me thats so inhuman so ill just become an entirely different person for everyone i meet i guess. because u get to a point where u realise that social cues are not a static thing and that every allistic person actually has their own seperate set of rules for how to act and they all act like that is inherently the way ur meant to act but fucking somehow simultaneously all of them know how to abide by each others social rules even though theyre all different, and u go fucking insane and then come to the conclusion that the only way to be able to speak the same language as these people is to completely lose ur identity to whoever u are talking to in the moment. and then the more u hang out with anyone the more you lose of yourself and u do it so hard and for so long that you end up not being able to shut it off for people who genuinely dont care how u act and u cant actually tell when youre lying anymore and you dont even know if you lied about being sick in the first place and just made urself this way and when u try to get help for this all of the resources are like "this is an evil manipulative thing that evil people do" and its like. so first of all people who are traumatized into defaulting to manipulative behaviours are not evil people and they dont deserve to be demonized but also i never lied to make anyone do anything for me i lied to protect myself from being treated like a monster how could i ever possibly explain myelf how do u undo a damage like that without making someone come to the conclusion that u were using them. it is such an intricate process untangling all the little strands of lies with someone u know and is it even possible to do it fully without making the person feel like u were only friends with them to make them adore u or get them to give u things. like i swear to god no lie i have ever told anyone about myself was for any ulterior motive i dont even like being around people. i just didnt want to be a freak anymore. and then being a freak was cool so i was a freak but not a REAL FREAK i still was just some other person my entire fucking life has just been observing peoples interactions and going oh that got a positive reaction ill try that. and then i try it and its like oh no one liked that. what were the variables. i need to know the variables but i can never repeat this experiment again because i cant actually deal with getting another negative reaction my heart cant take it when they look at me like that when they realise im a fake person just pretending to be human why did it work with that other person and not me what the fuck did i do wrong. and u cant exactly go and tell this to ur therapist who smokes freuds cock for breakfast because u will just get "liar" put on ur file and lose even more of ur autonomy and make it even less likely for people to believe u when u report psychiatric abuse. anyway peace and love on planet earht the camera zooms out to a blue sky and polka dot house and i am waving at u from below with my dog goodbye!!!!!!!!!!!!bye!!!!

I ride or die for gang orca, god
Can you just imagine how surprised he’d be at someone else defending him /getting upset on his behalf??? He’d melt if it was his S/O as well ahhh
YEAHHH like. He’s so big and scary, and plays that up so much in his hero persona, that I think a lot of people r too afraid to say anything directly to him. And he’s used to it, knows it’s not worth the fight, because if he’s perceived as aggressive in any way it’ll only make things worse and any kind of push back will be seen as aggressive from him.
But once the pair of you become involved enough that he’s bringing you to hero galas and other events, people realize they’re free to make snide comments where you can hear; if it’s not implying you’re only with him for the money and social standing (because how could you possibly be genuinely attracted to someone so inhuman) then it’s horrible, invasive questions about ur sex life (he‘s surely so animalistic, you must like it rough) or, worst of all, condescendingly expressing concern that he might be forcing you into a relationship somehow (because he’s so villainous, really, and if u need help just ask) and it’s that last one that makes you snap the first time, mostly because it happens right as he’s returning from getting you a drink and you haven’t been dating very long but you can see the way his face falls as he catches the very end of the question—
And you see red. Really, you don’t feel calm until hours later—not until after you’ve screamed yourself hoarse and called the offending party every rude name under the sun, after Kugo finally managed to drag you far enough away that all you could do was keep glaring at them as if you could make them burst into flames with a look, after he sheepishly told your host that you both had better make it an early night and head home. You’re still buzzing in the car, and he’s agitated too, and you think you should probably apologize to him at least for making such a scene but you’re not sorry, not really, because more than anything it was that look he’d made, involuntarily, that had broken your heart.
(And you shouldn’t have been worried, because once he ushers you into his apartment he doesn’t even let you say all of that. You get out a single word and then he’s kissing you, pressing you up against the door he’d just closed, growling into your mouth about how much you drive him insane. You realize, as his mouth moves from your lips to your jaw to your neck, that his agitation had never been disappointment or anger with you)
So it’s not until you’re laying in his bed with your head on his chest and his arms around you, the both of you lax and satiated, that you finally feel calm. You can feel his steady heartbeat beneath your ear; it’s soothing. It’s human.

God bless your soul, honestly. But can you explain to me why this felt like your responsibility, more than, say, an explosion of rabbits in a similar space and timeframe? It's confusing to hear you simultaneously upset about the many births and the many deaths. Are cats not allowed to undergo predation? Were they not feeding the very same ecosystem they were feeding from? I understand it was very hard for you, but why undertake trying to control wild animals then?
I really don't want a future where all animals are either in enclosures or homes, seperated to prevent natural ecosystems that we find distasteful. I adore my little Zucchini, and keep her inside exclusively because we live in Urban/apartments, but I so wish for her that she could have had a life in nature, meeting other cats, hunting, breeding, and yes, experiencing danger. Cats are honestly just one small example of how humanity is continuously extending our reach and control over the Earth. How will it all end?
These are honest questions that cannot be answered on an individual basis. I know everyone is doing their absolute best to take care of the animals they steward in their homes and environment, but it is genuinely very difficult to know what the best way is. But we must also be willing to ask difficult questions about what we want humanity's impact on the Earth to be. Do we want animals confined to smaller and smaller spaces, eating only food we pre-kill and provide for them, unable to breed outside of our manipulation, never engaging with other species? Zoos only work as "protection and sustainability" if there will eventually be an ecosystem to return them back to. Are we committing the felis catus to a life indoors? That is a space they have only very very recently been confined to. Same with dogs, birds, fishes? How well are we able to replicate what animals need to thrive? We are barely able to create conditions for humans to thrive! Why are we assuming a sexless, threatless, huntless life is whats best for them? Simply because fewer die, but also fewer are born? Are we really so sure that a kitten, killed by a snake a month or two into its life, would rather never have existed? Again, why do we think its fine for a snake to eat birds, bunnies, and mice, but not cats?
Humanity has an existential and dangerous fear of death. This has lead us to push animal slaughter into the industrial shadows, out of average experience. As well as push human death into the institutional and sterilized environment of a hospital. I found myself shocked to realize that I eat meat and plants with no guilt, but feel deeply bad about killing a bug or even picking a wildflower or stomping grass. The alienation of humanity from death is causing environmental and sociological devistation, as we put the prolonging and protection of the individual human life over all other factors, including health, happiness, connection, sustainability, sanity, and more.
I’m sorry this has gotten so big and ranty. But I myself am struggling with these issues all the time. It is so painful to watch my beloved kitty go between laying under the bed and looking out the window every day, with the occasional break in routine of running as fast and chaotically around the room as possible. I start to feel crazy, anxious, and depressed after being stuck in this small space for only a day. She is only allowed to leave when she is stuffed in a carrier and moved to another small, inescapable room when we move every year or so. I suffer at the inhumanity of it all. I considered getting a chameleon but after hearing of someone who regretted it after feeling incredible guilt that all he wanted to do was stare out the window, I decided against it. It is honestly insane hubris to think we can create any substitute for the life they get in the wild.
I am not trying to guilt anyone for their choices: like I said, I love my exclusively indoor cat very very much. I know that if I dumped her in the wild in a fit of guilt she would certainly die. There are no easy answers in a world where our influence involves the rapid destruction of every single natural habitat on earth. But I know that if we continue our trend of increased control, one day we will be burdened with the consequences. Specifically, the few natural ecosystems we have left will be completely reliant on our support to stay alive, and we will not understand them enough to actually provide them with what they need to thrive. Will we one day have to seed clouds to keep the rainforest from turning to desert? Inject probiotics to keep soil from turning to dust? Is there any amount of support we can provide to undo the destruction that we have caused? And how much harder will that support be than the destruction was?
I’m sorry again, perhaps this was a talk that was better made for its own post than a reply on a well-intended post about cats. But this is the topic that brings these questions to my mind almost constantly. There are no easy or independent answers available. I know some people may get mad at me for even bringing all this up. But I hope anyone who reads this will lend me their honest and good-natured thoughts.
Blessings to all beings. Peace and love everywhere, forever.
i'll tell you what converted me to being all-in on keeping cats indoors only:
living for a year and a half in a rural area with a sudden feral cat colony explosion on the property.
i moved in with my folks for a bit and at that time, one (1) stray cat mama had taken up residence on the property, but was too feral to let my mother anywhere near her. but especially after she brought three kittens around, mom fed her and the kittens in hopes they'd grow trusting enough she could catch for spay and neuter at the minimum. momcat stayed mean and hella wary, but the kittens would hang around a little nearer and play with my mom via long stick, but still wouldn't come close enough to touch or catch.
unfortunately, two of the three kittens were girls and started having kittens of their own before further progress was made, shortly after i moved in. and that was pretty much instant doom.
there were so many kittens. SO MANY. multiple litters. every time we turned around, more kittens.
we fed them. we hunted for and located the kittens every time anywhere on the property and would move them to a repurposed doghouse anytime a mama cat had them somewhere else, so that they could grow up human-socialized and we could spay/neuter them when they were old enough. (also it was a handy tactic to push the issue of the mamas getting more used to/trusting of us themselves. only really worked with one of them, though.)
and we watched them die.
we watched litter after litter of kittens never make it to the age they could be spayed or neutered. the moms stayed, for the longest time, too skittish to more than briefly touch, much less catch and crate for a vet visit.
it sounds like a silly joke to say i have kitten-related ptsd, but i absolutely do.
too many goddamn times i'd walk out of the garage and find the carport and gravel drive strewn with tiny bodies. others simply went missing, never to be found.
one in particular, i wish i hadn't found, and the visual literally haunts me still, almost a decade later.
i saw so many kittens die of snake bite, spider bite, wild dogs, birds of prey, hit by cars, respiratory illness, covered in fleas and eyes crusted with infection.
and we loved them all. scrimped for antibiotics if the vet could be convinced to give it to us despite our being unable to bring them in. bought flea collars and ointments. we cared for them and fed them and petted them and played with them, brushed their fur and cleaned up their little faces, put ice in their water in hot summer, rigged a heating lamp in their house in the winter.
and they died. horribly. that property is pocked with unmarked graves of kittens and cats.
all the best intentions, not enough resources, and it didn't matter anyways because the population went from three to almost twenty (at times, over thirty) in the blink of an eye.
they died and died and died. our hearts broke over and over again. the stress and anxiety wore us down like sandpaper. i think, by the end of it all, we managed to find less than 10 of them all homes, including batman the disabled kitten i found a home across the country through tumblr.
it was carnage and tragedy, frankly. and we were helpless.
it only ended because they started dying faster than they could be born, and because we finally caught the two remaining mom cats in traps and got them spayed.
the points about outdoor cats being invasive predators devastating to local wildlife populations is true and valid and important.
but i know cat people, and cat people who don't know better than to let cats outdoors. what matters to you is the cat itself, generally. the cat being happy and taken care of.
keeping cats outdoors, letting them outdoors, is not taking care of the cats. it's not protecting them. it's not giving them any happiness or invigoration that couldn't be provided to them as indoor-only pets with just a little research and effort.
they die. they get ill. they get hurt. they're at risk of predators, and cars, and disease, and carelessly cruel children and deliberately cruel adults. they're at risk of disappearing on you because someone else saw a cat outdoors and intervened to give it a better, safer life not in conflict with the local environment.
and if that offends and angers you that someone would just take a cat they saw roaming outdoors, even collared, and that it sounds like i'm endorsing that, i am, but not if you intervene and be that person yourself for your own cat.
if what matters to you is doing right by your cat because it's family and a living creature whose happiness and health and safety is important to you,
keep them indoors. not part time. always. exclusively.

So if it is MEANT to be a villain route...Why are the villanous actions NEVER ADDRESSED by ANY of the characters outside of "Huh. I wonder if there was a better way to do this."
Why did they have Rhea go insane and torch a city? Why make potray Rhea as a villain when you could potray her as the hero whos genuinely trying to do good? Why have a majority of the characters still be able to be recruited regardless of if it makes sense? Why have the ending narration mostly be possible? WHY have Edelgard succeed and somehow turn her tyranny into a society that "ensures a free and independent society fot all."
If it's REALLY a villain route, why is there not a single character ending mentioning things like rebellions and conflict? Hell, the ending narration shows not a hint of villainy and potrays its ending as heroic.
"Embracing her newfound power, Edelgard could at last set about destroying Fódlan's entrenched system of nobility and rebuild a world free from the tyranny of Crests and status."
Again, if it was TRULY meant to be the villain route, it would have been POTRAYED as such. Instead of a villain route, we got "A route where one of the villains is made the protagonist and her views and villainous actions are never questioned OR addressed and outside of the conquest and starting the war, everyone is mostly happy."
Alright so this is going to seem like a nonserious answer, but I'm 100% serious when posting this image as part of a genuine answer to this question:
Tumblr media
On CF, your actions are never addressed because of ignorance. On the surface, your actions seem like they've helped Fodlan, but as soon as the player looks any deeper it starts to become evident that something isn't right.
If Edelgard made a free and independent society for all, why are the people spied on in Hubert's ending with Dorothea? Why are rebellions secretly being put down in his ending with Shamir? That's not free, in a general sense or from specifically tyranny. That's a direct contradiction from two of the characters that can only be played on CF, and this is only found on CF.
Rhea is portrayed as a villain because she is Nabatean, and Edelgard hates Nabateans, and you are playing a route that emphasizes her ideals - which include wiping out all of the inhuman, bestial, vile, cruel Nabateans that have been plaguing humanity’s world. Rhea goes insane on CF because unlike all of the other routes, where the player and the lord never go out of their way to trample and spit on their enemies' trauma, that's what you are doing the entire time you play CF to Rhea - for months once Byleth returns, and that’s being extremely generous and not counting the entire war. You help drive Rhea and the other Nabateans away from their homes when taking over Garreg Mach - like Nemesis did to Rhea after the Red Canyon Massacre! You're helping someone try to kill off the rest of her people - like Nemesis did at Zanado! You're trying to kill Rhea with the Sword of the Creator, her mother's mutilated corpse - like Nemesis did! You're doing so with the descendent of Wilheim - spitting on the legacy of the one human Rhea could trust during the War of Heroes! You're literally recreating the single worst moment of Rhea's life, all so that you can help the one who views her as less than human.
Portraying Rhea as "the hero who's genuinely trying to do good" goes against Edelgard's viewpoint of all Nabateans being evil, and you're never meant to question Edelgard or make her change her beliefs. You as the player are actively discouraged from talking back to Edelgard, as she will noticeably get upset whenever you do - many times you will even lose support points with her, and this is especially bad for specifically Edelgard because you have to get to a certain support level with her to enter her route, with you having less chapters to do so because she won't talk to you until after Byleth achieves the Sword of the Creator in Chapter 4.
Look at how Rhea, Dimitri, and Claude are portrayed on CF. Rhea and Dimitri are demonized, while Claude is given some leeway from Edelgard. Now notice who of the three of them always speak their minds over Edelgard's villainy to her face, and which of the three of them bends to Edelgard's view of them as the bad guy. Dimitri and Rhea never allow themselves to bend to Edelgard - they call her out and call her actions evil. Claude, on the other hand, will remove himself from Fodlan and then afterwards make himself out to be a bad guy whom Edelgard managed to take down. He puffs up her ego, and he gets to live, while the two that don't must die. Edelgard is the one always out for the kill, and only by submitting to her is anyone allowed to live - which, I don’t think needs to be said, isn’t very heroic of her.
I've had my fair share of complaints over the characters that can be recruited over to CF, but even with those complaints... look at how those characters behave on CF. None of them are Felix levels of negative character development, but they all act noticeably worse on CF vs how they are on the other routes. To name some notable examples: Ignatz goes from wanting to paint Garreg Mach as it stood five years before to preserve its beauty to wanting to paint the violent downfall of the Alliance, Lysithea wants to abandon House Ordelia, which is in direct contrast to her core character motivation, Ingrid is willing to throw away her lifelong dream of being a knight of Faerghus, which she herself says is her spitting on her dead betrothed’s dreams, Leonie works with Jeralt’s killers, etc. etc.. And mind, CF is the route that locks out the most units - there's the obvious ones like Dedue and Gilbert who were already route exclusive, but then there's Seteth and Flayn, Catherine, Cyril, and Hilda. CF is the only route to have even non-exclusive units be completely unavailable no matter what.
Edelgard doesn't make a society that is "free," like I said above - having a secret police monitor the people's actions, or is ready to put down anyone who tries to rise up against her, is literally the opposite of free. Edelgard can and will ban plays she doesn't like - not free. Edelgard only allows state-sanctioned religion, if she does allow it - not free.
CF is a route that wants to make the player believe the lie that you're not the villain, because you are playing from the perspective of someone who herself doesn't think she's the villain, but like. Look at what you're doing. You're invading two countries for the express, explicit purpose of taking them over and making them your own. You're working with someone who's been trying to reunite Fodlan back under Adrestia as early as the prologue when she tried to have Dimitri and Claude assassinated. You're helping TWS. Your Imperial presence makes Church people flee - which, given that Edelgard wants Rhea and those involved with the Church dead, I don't blame them. You're working with someone who is starving her people so that she can carry on with her war.
CF lies to the player - Edelgard lies, constantly. She says she's willing to let Rhea live, but literally the scene before she says she seeks to fuckin' Exodia Rhea. She lies about Arianrhod. She lies - or is flat-out wrong, which isn't much better - about the Church hoarding wealth and about the Church splitting up the Empire. She lies about not knowing about TWS pre-ts. She helps spread the lie of Duscur being the ones who killed Lambert. She lied about not knowing where Flayn was when she was kidnapped. She lies to her people by making them believe she’s making the orders during the war, not Byleth. There's a student who doubts all of what Edelgard says right before the timeskip happens and who isn't sure about his decision to stay, and then there’s a man who calls Edelgard “a tricksy one” on the last explore section for lying about attacking the Kingdom capitol. She’s wrong about the history of Nemesis and Seiros, calling Nemesis killing all of Rhea’s family a “simple dispute.” She lies to her people about an entire war against a group who just a little bit ago were her allies. Lies and ignorance are staple points to CF as a route, it’s baked into it, so the idea of the CF going “oh no you totally are the good guys” literally as the city burns down around the players doesn’t come from nowhere.
And like... the ending narration “shows not a hint of villainy?” Um.
Tumblr media
Her stepping on the flags of the Alliance and Church? Her recreating a painting of Napoleon - that little known imperialist - down to the hand of justice? Her denouncing gods constantly and then being ushered in by a statue with heavy resemblance to Nike, Goddess of victory? Hubert plotting away from the sight of the rejoicing people? Yeah, there’s a lot of hints to villainy.
Again, CF isn’t “portrayed” as a villain route because it’s you falling for the lies of Edelgard. You have a wool over your eyes. You accept everything Edelgard says as fact, even when she actively contradicts herself - sometimes as radically as in back-to-back scenes. You view yourself as a savior to humanity, even when you plunge it into darkness. You don’t think you’re the villain, so your actions aren’t going to be put in an explicitly villainous light - at least, not by anyone on your side.
This post showcases the difference between non-recruited characters fighting non-CF!Byleth vs CF!Byleth. Characters are mostly saddened by having to fight Byleth in the former, while they are mostly betrayed on CF. Byleth is very clearly seen as being wrong for having sided with Edelgard on CF by the non-recruited characters - Edelgard’s actions may not be directly criticized (save for by Dimitri and a few others), but it makes no sense for these characters to be this shocked and betrayedby Byleth siding with her if her actions were so good. Leonie deadass calls you a traitor to Jeralt, Ingrid says that you are not fit to rule Fodlan specifically for siding with Edelgard and the Empire after all she and they have done, and Dimitri questions you as to why you chose Edelgard and her “savage, bloody path,” just to name a few notable examples. You, as the player, are being criticized for siding with Edelgard. You say that the villainous actions are “NEVER ADDRESSED by ANY of the characters,” but what else are these reactions but characters addressing your villainous actions?
And like... “a route where one of the villains is the protagonist” bro that’s a villain route. Like. I’m not trying to be mean, but I am genuinely confused as to what you were trying to get at here.
Like. In a vacuum? I might can get the idea of CF not being a villain route a little better, were it the only route available (though even that is a very big stretch). But you have three whole other routes where there’s no conquest, there’s no working with TWS, there’s no using Demonic Beasts, there’s no killing/exiling the remaining (immediately known) Nabateans, there’s no continuous and long-standing lies that never get outed, the lords never stay flat out wrong about the events of the game, non-recruited characters aren’t shooting Byleth up the ass with accusations of being a traitorous lemming who’d follow Edelgard off a cliff... and they achieve peace. Those endings, with Dimitri Claude and “Rhea” (SS ain’t really her route even though it should’ve been but ye), lack the following in any of their endings:
Censorship
Tumblr media
Spying on the people
Tumblr media
Constantly putting down rebels in secret
Tumblr media
State-sanctioned religion
Tumblr media
(mind, this last one is in direct contradiction to CF’s ending narration that says that Church is destroyed)
None of this happens on AM, VW, and SS. They all have peaceful endings. They all have Fodlan see the light of dawn, and that is never contradicted in their endings. CF is the only route to have all of these things happen in it - I think that’s enough for it to be considered a villain route lol

Our girl is thriving this season, but what the fuck is this Wyatt plot? I need your thinks about this one. I just knew you'd be six posts in on this by now. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
*sighs* For fk's sake, nonny. I don't even like talking about it because I get ranty.
What do you want me to say? Honestly, everything you can imagine I would feel about this, you're probably right. Because you know, I'm that b*tch always getting ranty about racism and stuff.
In short, I hate it. I think it's unnecessary, tone-deaf, random, pointless, lowkey offensive, and illogical. I legitimately find it triggering AF. And it doesn't make sense.
It's Unnecessary. There is a fraction of a chance that it will connect to something more significant, but even if that's the case, I'm confident that end result or connection could've taken place without this random reform racist Wyatt storyline. This series has struggled enough as it is properly utilizing all of its primary characters as well as providing them with decent screentime and arcs. It literally makes no sense to spend any of that time that could be used elsewhere on primary characters on a recurring guest star.
This isn't actually about Rosa, it's about Wyatt. Following up on the previous point, this specific arc caters to Wyatt. Revolves around Wyatt. Rosa is just a passive participant and vessel for this Wyatt storyline. So again, the arc itself is about a recurring character. At least when they did something similarly bringing back Cam to siphon time and arcs away from its main cast they found ways to implement it better and tied her to multiple main characters, so it wasn't a total waste.
The intended Wyatt/Rosa parallel is illogical. I know what they're intending to do with this storyline, drawing parallels between Rosa's experience coming back from the dead after ten years and trying to make sense of that and atone for things before and having this second chance to make things right and go down the right path and so forth and Wyatt losing his memory and his racist ways and having to reconcile with who he was to who he can be and all of that. I understand the concept they're trying to sell. It just doesn't work. Rosa's addiction is not equivalent to Wyatt's racism and violence. Her mental illness isn't either. It's dangerous to invite the comparasions with this storyline.
It's not successful redemption. True redemption is Wyatt knowing and remembering his actions and then trying to atone for them. It's not the convenience of amnesia wiping out his memory only giving him distance from his actions rather than really facing up to them. Because of the amnesia, to Wyatt, it's like he's hearing about another person. It's a cop out. He doesn't Actually have to do the work to redeem himself or atone or learn or grow. IF we're supposed to compare it to Rosa, she knew what she did and remembers and knows how she hurt her loved ones or whatever and she's actively trying to make amends for that as part of her program... a program that Wyatt isn't working or anything BTW.
They've contradicted themselves too much and are rewriting their own work and thus twisting everything up just to make this storyline work and it still doesn't. The timeline is all fkd up... what they established already all of it..The Longs were racist before Kate's death. Kate was racist. To suggest that a 10+ amnesiac blackout clean slates and erases all of Wyatt's racism is just wrong. As in it literally doesn't even make any sense. That is not how the amnesia works but they keep playing both sides of it trying to make it work. To sell us what they're claiming, he would have to have ALL of his memories wiped and have forgotten who he was completely.
Wyatt is behaving like he's shocked by racism in this town but they're also trying to argue that he was born into it. Wyatt was surrounded by racists and his friends come from racist families but he's acting like the very concept of him ever being ingratiated in it is some huge surprise. Wyatt looks affronted by things like Confederate flags. Wyatt being steeped in and surrounded by racism predates his amnesia period.
Kyle mentioned that line about Wyatt putting Whites Only on water fountains, and it sounded like a school prank. It also sounded like something Kyle was reminding Rosa of as if she was alive when that incident happened. Therefore, Wyatt was doing racist stuff before she died. Kyle would've been out of school by then so how else would he know that or why would he bother retaining it?
IF Wyatt and Rosa really were friends before (which holy retcon), then it makes no real sense that he would get psychopathically angry about his "friend" who does drugs getting into a car accident with his sister who does drugs. He would've mourned them both not jumped to severe racism and violence. But both he and Jasmine's family (who are MIA for all of this) did that... jumped to racism. So was Wyatt indoctrinated by his family or indoctrinated by message boards and shit? And if Wyatt and Rosa were friends than why was Kate such a racist bitch to Rosa?
They're backdrafting history JUST to make this storyline that we don't need with a character who isn't even a main one to work.
By not actually addressing that Wyatt has to unlearn racism and giving him an out through amnesia, there is the very realistic issue of that latent racism to come out at any given time. What happens when he's drunk? What happens when he's really angry at a POC?
Tying Wyatt's redemption with his clear affection for Rosa is again dangerous and irresponsible. I know we would all like to think that love is the way and through love it can heal racism, but that puts the responsibility on the disenfranchised person to be "lovable." Because if Wyatt WAS friends with Rosa once then that means the second Rosa did something unlovable she was just another *insert racist slur of choosing* right? It means that there's a possibility that if his feelings for Rosa dwindle or things go sideways in some way there's a chance that he could revert back to those racist ways. Loving Rosa(linda) and pinning all of his wanting to be better on her because of her makes his actively learning to be anti-racist conditional. Right now he's not doing this for him. He's doing it because of Rosa.
This entire storyline has placed the burden of forgiveness on Rosa, his victim. Without him ever having to actually make amends. It's this turn the other cheek BS that means there's nothing too big or harmful that can't result in forgiveness. It relies on Rosa and all that she represents to extend an inhumane level of mercy and grace to their tormentor and oppressor that was never once extended to them. It's such a consistent and problematic thing projected on disenfranchised parties that ONLY benefits the majority and makes them feel good. It's a narrative of meeting someone halfway when the playing field was uneven and the minorities are in actuality doing more work and making a longer trek. Halfway and meeting in the middle only works if both sides were even. They are not. It's the reaching across the aisle both sidesms when one side was clearly and actively more harmful than the other and than calling that peace and equity. It is not.
This storyline was meant to scintillate some viewers with this "what if" notion and teach others a meaningful lesson or be this poorly thought out gateway to exploring a complex storyline but it came at the expense of other demographics who actively have to deal with racist crap. And because of their problematic approach what is simply "just entertainment" to some who has the luxury of not having to think about it beyond that, is just gross and insanely triggering and uncomfortable to others. The others who deal with the reality of the subject at hand.
They wrote themselves into a corner with Wyatt so trying to dig him out of that no matter the cost or logic is absurd. This storyline could've worked better if Wyatt's racism didn't also include conscious, constant, extreme violence. But they spent all of this time making Wyatt the face of violent racism and now are trying to redeem him with no real effort. He wasn't just using slurs or making microaggressions. He wasn't some insensitive or aloof white person. He is a murderer. He has killed people. He technically murdered Liz in cold-blood. He knew she was in the crashdown when he shot up the place. The lights were still on. He beat up Arturo so badly he nearly killed him well after his friends even stopped. He attacked and intended to kill Rosa. And his handiwork was a constant thing, enough for Jenna to comment on it. And now we're supposed to ignore all of that because he has amnesia and has puppy dog eyes?
The fact that we can entertain (and for some succeed) Wyatt in all of his hot white dudeness' redemption after everything he has done slips into the inherent racism of society in the first place and is enraging. Because systemically and culturally and inherently society will bend over backwards to find a way to absolve a hot white guy no matter his actions. Flint and Noah couldn't get this type of redemption... So their intended storyline about evolving from racism STILL plays into the racist structures set up in society.
And because some people like it, there's this slippery territory of NO everyone who genuinely enjoys this aren't racist for enjoying it. But yes, this entire storyline and how it is playing out is at the very least racially insensitive.
In order for this storyline to work they would actually have to show Wyatt doing the work. They don't have enough time to dedicate to such a delicate storyline. It's been a C and D filler storyline with 45 second to a minute scenes. That's not enough time to explore this properly. We would've needed to see Wyatt returning home from the hospital. We would've needed to see Wyatt with his friends and it not feeling right and his discomfort. We would've needed to see Wyatt going through his yearbook and googling himself and the horror and disgust he felt. We would need to see this through his eyes. But we didn't have the time for that and we wouldn't have anyway because he's not a main character. We only get Wyatt through Rosa's eyes and they haven't even dedicated enough time to that for it to work. Rosa isn't conflicted at all. She didn't struggle to forgive him. She was reduced to a school girl with a crush and an insane level of grace and they just threw that at us with no buildup whatsoever. I don't know where Rosa's head is and how she got to this to place. Not really. And the only thing working about this is the chemistry between two actors who are allegedly dating so of course there's chemistry.
It literally feels like another instance of a favorite actor being shoehorned into a storyline just for the hell of it. Just because they didn't want to let Dylan go or something. Just to give him something else to do.

Experiment 05SB
Alternatively titled “I’m sorry 2B don’t hate me please”
I hath given in to the M4dc0m brain rot at the cost of me now having written a 7k+ word fic because I’m not confident enough in my art skills to draw it at the moment. Here we go!
Oh, there’s also implied fatal in this (it’s of unnamed characters, plus this is M4dc0m, but I’ve gotta say it. I guess you could take it as reformation if you really wanted to.). Mentions of blood I guess?
As always, Vore under the cut :)
“Ey 2b? You there?” Deimos’s voice crackled to life through the plastic earpiece currently jammed into his left ear, yanking the hacker and unofficial ‘team medic’ as he was called once (much to his own confusion. Sure, he knew basic medical but by no means was he any sort of doctor) back into reality. A brief moment passed in the silence of his room, more often called ‘the lab’, of their base before everything came crashing back at once. Deimos, Sanford, and Hank were out raiding a A.A.H.W warehouse at his instruction. Meaning he was alone in their base, also known as a breaking down appartement they had taken shelter in. It had electricity and provided shelter from the harsh hell scape that had once been the state of Nevada. A dark red sunless sky overhead, vegetation and any ecosystems completely wiped out from what they’d seen, bandits and zeds equally ready to eat the nearest person if it meant living another day, the Agency hunting you down if they thought you’d possibly be working against them or with the infamous Hank J. Wimbleton, and having little to no essential resources for days at a time to top it all off like some twisted cherry on this sick cake. Home sweet fucking home.
“Doc? Helllloooo?” Shit, right. Deimos.
“Sorry, I’m here. What is it Deimos?”
“And the medic lives!” The small cheer was accompanied by laughter from the smallest member of the team. Jebus, how was he able to joke in even the most dire situations?
“Just get to the point, chucklehead.” 2b could hear Sanford add in over the static, the man’s laughter just barely making it to tired ears.
“Right right, sorry man. Anyway, if we wanted to get food on the way back would you say no?” Pardon? There was no way he was hearing that right. There were several reasons why he couldn’t be hearing that right. A. food wasn’t by any means the easiest thing to come by in this hellhole, B. restaurants weren’t really a common thing anymore so those were out of the picture, and C. there’s no way they could p- actually, scratch that last one. Robbing a corpse wouldn’t be the weirdest thing that those three had done. Not by a long shot. Still though, how was he supposed to respond to that request?
“…what?” Apparently by asking the first word on his mind.
“We saw that one hotdog vendor on the way here and we’re all starving. Can we or can we not get hotdogs on the way back?” Oh. That’s what Deimos ment. How on earth had that hotdog vendor not been killed yet?
“Is this a genuine ‘we’ or is it a ‘me’, Deimos?” That seemed like a more fair and answerable question.
“Hey I-!”
“It’s a genuine ‘we’ Doc,” Sanford’s voice chimed in. By the cursing in the background 2b could imagine that he had flipped up Deimos’s mic to temporarily mute him in the realm of their earpieces. “Pretty sure one of our stomachs gave us away to the last group of agents we had to take out. Not gonna point fingers but I’m pretty sure it was Hank- Ack! I’m just saying!”
“Thought we weren’t pointing fingers.” There was the third voice. Rough from years of fighting yet still all too recognizable as Hank. The same Hank J. Wimbleton on the wanted posters that scattered the walls of almost every nearby building, wanted dead by the Auditor and his whole agency. He must’ve smacked Sanford for his comment. Well at least he didn’t do worse, whether on purpose or accident.
“We aren’t. Now Cmon Doc, you never answered my question.” Hearing the other hacker’s voice ask for an answer again 2b sighed. Always eager, wasn’t he? How the man had seemingly endless energy on missions would forever remain a mystery to him, Jebus be damned.
“I don’t really care what you do on the way back so long as you all come back in one piece and with the stuff I sent you there for. Understood?”
“Aye aye, Captain Doc! Over and out!” And there they went. The earpiece went dead, leaving 2b on his own once again once he flicked up his own mic. Back to silence. Sweet sweet silence. It wasn’t often they got that in their shared apartment of a base. Someone was always awake, someone was always saying something. It was never really quiet unless you were lucky enough to be the only one awake. 2BDamned had seen plenty of those rare times, if only because he overworked himself and didn’t sleep. So maybe it was one of his less than desirable qualities, when living in a hellscape being ten steps ahead of the agency trying to kill you is always good. He had to keep that up, on top of keeping the others alive and well.
And then there was his little experiment. That also was taking a toll on how little he slept. Not all that long ago the trio had returned from a mission with the data he had requested and more. Specifically a duffel bag full of seemingly shrunken grunts and two only slightly bigger shrunken MAGs. Pft, how funny it was to say that. A shrunken MAG. Hell, he wouldn’t believe it if you told him with no proof. The idea seemed insane. Oh but it wasn't. Not by a long shot if the cages sitting on one of his tables said anything. Normally he’d call such a thing like keeping people in cages inhumane, not that there were many humane things in this hellhole to begin with. He’d expect keeping them in cages that probably used to be for pets to be a move pulled by the Agency, not himself, however he had to make do with what they could find and had access to. Also known as: not much at all. He wanted to study them after all. Letting them free was just not an option.
Now that probably sounds bad, studying living beings like himself, but one couldn’t blame 2b when you considered his situation (at least he hopes one couldn’t). Somehow the Agency found a way to shrink living beings. That’s power that could be used against him and the others to make everything turn for the worst, something which he wanted to avoid at all costs. However, if one of his teammates or himself were to be shrunken on a mission it would be possibly lifesaving to know how to reverse the effects. Plus, having the power to shrink enemies on their side could certainly prove useful. All that being said, he needed these few alive in order to try and figure out what caused them to be how they were. Hence the repurposed, beat up pet cages. Two of them to be exact. One held the grunts and the other for the two MAG agents. None of them had killed each other yet, so that was nice. A few simple experiments and a dissection of a grunt that had been dead upon arrival to him proved that they still functioned as they would if they were their normal size. Just on a smaller scale. He had sent Hank, Deimos, and Sanford out for supplies today, yes, though if they found any information regarding the shrinking of their little ‘guests’ then they were to bring it to him. With no information on that though, he had to continue his other work. Tired eyes met the screen through red goggles. Moments later his head found itself cushioned in the crook of one of his arms.
“What the hell.” 2b grumbled, a fresh headache slowly starting to pound against the inside of his skull. What the hell was up with him? He should be fine. This was only his second day without proper ‘longer-then-15-minutes’ sleep. He’d gone longer before, he should be able to function. Why was the screen giving him such a headache now of all times? He needed to get stuff done. He needed to finish up this…this……what was he working on again? Hold on, no, he should remember. This shouldn’t be slipping his mind like it is. Maybe if he just thought back a few minutes. It would come back to him, right?
“Ok right before Deimos called, what was I doing?” 2b thought out loud to himself, trying his hardest to recall what had happened prior to the call from his allies. ”I was sitting here…then Deimos called in. Wait, no. Go back. From the top. Since…however long ago I’ve been sitting here, working on…what was I working on before Deimos asked about getting food? I sent them on the raid, didn’t eat, got to work and- no. That’s not it. Why can’t I just-“
Gggnnnnnnrrrr…
Oh well fuck him. That’s why he couldn’t focus. 2b groaned, not bothering to hide the noise as of now. He was alone, no one would hear him or tease him. Unless you would count the shrunken men in the cages, however it wasn’t likely they’d say anything. When you’re the size of a rat, spare the MAGs who were more rabbit sized, to your captor pissing them off seemed like the worst thing one could do. Clearly the hacker wasn’t at all in the mood to deal with teasing, so their mouths remained shut. That left 2b alone to deal with his complaining stomach, a feat which proved easier said than done when one was going off a day and a half without properly sleeping. He couldn’t even remember the last time he ate something. It was all just fuzzing together at this point.
Pushing himself off his desk 2b flopped back into the worn chair he’d been sitting in for God knows how long. Relaxing into the backrest was certainly more comfortable than being hunched over a laptop screen typing away like he had been for the past day or two. A hand fell to rest over his stomach while the other removed his goggles. Those were not helping the blooming headache. A low growl from his stomach drew a small hiss through his teeth, the sound being accompanied by a familiar empty cramping.
“Oh you can shut up.” He grumbled at the organ half heartedly, “It’s not like I can eat anything right now. There’s a reason I sent Hank and the others out.” His stomach growled back, the empty sound ringing in the hacker’s ears. He needed to eat, that was undeniable. The problem was getting something to eat. He had few options, none of which he particularly liked. Option 1. going out to look for something even slightly edible on his own, option 2. wait and hope the others found and brought back food, or option 3. contact the others through his headset and ask them to get him something on the way back. The first option was clearly undesirable on its own and the other two weren’t much better. Sure, asking them to grab something for him would probably be easiest and most logical, however he was almost certain that they didn’t want to hear that out of the blue in the middle of a fight. That and he didn’t want to deal with any teasing that might come along with asking. He wasn’t about to take that chance when he had things to do. He couldn’t remember those things at the moment, sure, but they were still things he had to do! So asking was not an available option at the moment. That left waiting and hoping for the best.
Rrrrrrrnnngggggg….
“I know. I don’t like the idea either.” 2b sighed as he spun around in his chair, gently patting his stomach. He needed to get out of his chair, even if it was just a walk around his room. He needed something after a day and a half straight of sitting there hunched over staring at a screen. Maybe it’d help with the headache if he was lucky. Probably wouldn’t but hey a man could dream. With a small grunt of effort the hacker found himself on his feet, his balance wobbling and legs feeling like brittle pasta beneath him. Ah, that's what I wanted to do earlier. Go figure taking breaks gets ignored by my brain. “However, I do believe it’ll end with the best result. I’m sure they’ll be home soon anyway.”
They wouldn’t. That was a lie, to himself and to his stomach alike. He likely had a few more hours alone, maybe two at least. The A.A.H.W warehouse he’d sent them to was big and if you account for fighting delays and them stopping on the way back then the chance of them being back in the next two hours would be some sort of miracle. By the way his stomach reacted every time he brushed over the thought that the trio was getting food on the way back then he wasn’t going to be looking so hot by the time they arrived back. Oh he was going to get the short end of the stick no matter what he did, wasn’t he? Talk about luck. 2b sighed, running a hand up and through his hair as he walked along one of the walls of his small room. His stomach clearly wasn’t shutting up any time soon so the next best course of action would be to ignore it. Maybe that would help him wait it out. What could he focus on? There was work, he could clean up a little bit maybe, or he could focus on the rattling coming from the cages and-
Hold on.
That most certainly wasn’t right. 2b cocked an eyebrow, crossing the room to where the three cages were placed. Quite the interesting scene was playing out before him. From what he could see a few of the shrunken grunts were teaming up to try and break out of the cages. This wasn’t their first little escape attempt, no, but it interested him enough as he stood there watching and attempting to grab his tablet at the same time. Eventually he had succeeded, opening up a new document to scribble down a few notes.
Title: Log 073SB
Time: 6:34 pm, xx/xx/xx
Author: 2BDamned
Note: Grunts working together to attempt escape. MAG agent seems to be attempting to cause a distraction by rattling the wall of the cage. Or perhaps they just want out. Very annoying either way. None seem bothered by my presence.
Satisfied with his little note, 2b closed the tablet and set it down on the counter next to one of the cages. Whether it was him being too rough with setting the tablet down or the low grumble from his stomach that startled the cage of grunts was up for debate, but currently he couldn’t find it in himself to care. Right now he needed to have a chat with the little troublemakers. Without hesitation the unofficial medic reached forward, opening the little hinged door located on top of the cage with ease compared to what the grunts inside were attempting before. He didn’t think twice before he reached in and grabbed the two topmost grunts from the pile of attempted escapees before retracting his hand, repeating the process with his other hand, and finally closing the cage. Hands now full, each holding two fighting bodies, the hacker sighed.
“Escape huh? How many times have you already tried that and it didn’t work?” 2b asked, a less than impressed tone lacing his voice. Sure, he needed a distraction from his stomach but he didn’t want to have to deal with escape attempts left and right for the next however long. “What made you think it’d go any different this time?”
There was a moment of silence before a soft voice spoke up, one that clearly hadn’t been used recently. One of the grunts in his left hand. “W-we figured i-if we actually tried and w-worked together then maybe we’d b-be able to manage a successful…e-escape…”
“Really now? Interesting.” 2b mumbled, looking over the grunt in his hand. They were all so small. You’d think he’d have gotten used to their size by now but every time he held one it seemed to slap him in the face. Offing them if they got too rowdy wouldn’t be hard at all. Wouldn’t need to use anything to begin with. How crazy it was. “Though I’m not sure I can let this slide as I have with previous instances.”
“W-what?” His response seemed to temporarily stun the four in his hands, most likely because of how it was different from his previous comments on their attempted escapes. A shiver passed over them like a wave while the hacker only nodded.
“Your previous attempts at escape. While I can understand why one would try I’ve made it quite clear that successful escapes won’t be happening nor tolerated, correct? I need to prove my point here because you all clearly don’t understand words.” He shifted on his feet slightly, a new question wracking his brain. What could he do to show he wasn’t going to deal with constant escape attempts? It had to be something that stuck, seeing as they clearly didn’t understand his earlier comments about escape not being tolerated. Only a few moments of silence passed before his lips were moving again. “You four are going somewhere else. A stronger holding space. If any of the others try anything they’ll join you. Simple, yet effective.” Or it would be if he knew exactly where he planned to stick these four. What did he have that could serve as a stronger cell for them? The cages were already pretty secure in terms of what he could work with. He just needed something stronger, close to him, hard to escape, and threatening that held a sense of danger with it. But what could that be? His eyes darted around the makeshift lab, trying to find something.
Grrrrroowwwllll…
2b’s eyes slowly scanned down from his shaking captives to his stomach. For a moment he just stared, eyes lacking any readable emotion. Well now that was certainly an option. It fit his criteria. Almost too well. Strong, hard to escape, close to him, and it held a sense of danger. Under his mask his torn and scared lips quirked up into a little smirk. “Mmhm. That’ll do quite nicely, in fact~”
The final moments of peace were shattered as the meaning of his words collided with his captives like a well aimed punch to the gut. Hearts sunk to their feet like rocks in water, despair rearing it’s head in their struggles. Those fortunate enough to remain in the cages simply watched with a muted horror as the four bodies were tossed onto the table and held down with little to no effort. The hacker wasted no time removing the mask and bandages that usually covered his mouth, tossing the fabrics haphazardly beside his discarded tablet. Despite the word fresh being the last thing he’d use to describe the Nevada air, 2b knew he’d be lying if he said it wasn’t nice to just breathe the air in alone and not through the layers of fabric like he often did. With the temporary roadblock now gone his eyes drifted downward to the bodies pinned beneath his hand.
“Well, I believe that eliminates any preventable issues we could encounter here.” He hummed softly, plucking the grunt who was covered by his hand the least up into the air. It certainly was odd to watch the little body squirm and fight against him, all attacks on the two fingers holding it proving futile. Their only hope seemed to be 2b letting them go, something which proved less and less likely the longer they studied the look in the hackers eyes. It wasn’t a look one ever wanted to find themself on the receiving end of. The sight of sharp teeth, glimmering with saliva through grinning lips, certainly did not help to lower the grunt’s heart rate at all. 2b simply clicked his tongue. “Meaning stalling time is up. Stay still, won’t you?”
The grunt did not, in fact, stay still. It was impossible to do so as far as they knew when you had a spit soaked tongue dragging up every inch of your front, sharp daggers of teeth only millimeters from their face. A deafening silence washed over the others, only being broken by a small pleased hum from their normal sized captor.
“Not bad…” the man mumbled, dragging his tongue up the squirming grunt yet again. A small voice in the back of his mind, his voice of reason, yelled out the obvious loud and clear to him plenty of times: this was wrong. It wasn’t right to be doing what he was about to do. This was stooping down to the bandits level, something he never intended to do unless absolutely necessary. He shouldn’t be enjoying the taste of another living being like this. And yet…here he was. Ignoring any logic and reason in his mind to proceed with this. Thank goodness he was alone. 2b didn’t even want to think about what the others might say if they were to see him how he was now. Shaking his head softly he shoved away the thought, opening his jaw as far as the joint and scarred tissue that made up his cheeks would allow. He wasn’t sure whether to be impressed or concerned with how easily the small body slipped into his mouth.
Despite their best efforts to squirm free of their new confinement, the slippery surroundings of the unofficial doctor’s maw proved to have horrible traction. Saliva dropped onto the unfortunate grunt’s head from above while they desperately tried to crawl out of the dark cavern. Feet scrambled on the soaked surface of their predator’s tongue as the muscle moved and flipped them around as if they were some piece of candy, all while their hands desperately tried to keep as little of them between the axe like teeth. One bite and they were done for, a terrifying thought. Through it all only three sounds were ever heard from those lucky enough to not be in the current grunt’s position. The sickening sounds of soaked struggle, terrified yelps from the grunt stuck within 2b’s jaws, and the occasional hum from the man himself. The torture, as those watching from the cage would describe it, seemed to continue for hours and hours on end.
Glk
Glp~
Until it all stopped with two simple swallows and a collective gasp of horror from those watching. The relaxed posture of the man they all watched failed to help their situation.
“H….huhh…that was..” the uncertified medic breathed, breaking the silence. His free hand lazily felt down his throat, tracing where he could feel the squirming body slip further down by the second. It didn’t take a genius to decipher that the less angry sounding gurgle from the man’s stomach signaled the end of the unfortunate grunt’s descent. With eyes widened just beyond his natural look 2b gently pressed his stomach. How interesting it was, as morbid as it might sound, to feel something squirming around inside the organ. Before he could even stop to consider a better way to word his thoughts, he finished his sentence. Just not in the way the grunts wanted to hear. “…incredibly easy.”
The last thing any of the remaining grunts wanted to see was those eyes scan up slowly before locking on them as if they were some sort of dessert. The clearly out of place smile on the man’s face didn’t help the feeling of impending doom either. If anything it only made it worse as a rough hand plucked another grunt from the selected three that had remained under his hand. Down, beneath his newfound curiosity and odd urge to continue what he was doing, 2b knew he should have been more concerned about how easy this was coming to him. No sane person would take so calmly to swallowing living beings, especially not of his own kind. Yet here he was, smirking as he licked over his scarred lips with cold eyes locked onto the small shaking body like a cat would after spotting a mouse. Looking at their sizes in comparison to one another? The simile was scarily accurate. Through his whole little mental debate the hacker found it all too easy to slip the small body into his mouth, licking it over to draw out as much of that strangely addicting taste before slowly beginning to nudge it back. Just bit by bit until it was far enough.

“Two down…haahhh…two to go…” the hacker sighed as he traced the lump down his throat. There was a waiting period once more but it didn’t last long before the shiver inducing gurgle signified where the poor soul had ended up. How the man hadn’t gotten sick yet was beyond the understanding of those who witnessed the event and even the man himself. Surely he should feel at least a little nauseous with two rat sized bodies squirming within his stomach. Nausea and fullness were the two sensations he had expected by now and yet neither had shown their face yet. Deep within his mind, from an area he didn’t even know existed until it spoke, a voice urged him to test his limits. 2b had shaken that idea off nearly immediately. As….enticing as that idea was, he still needed a few of the shrunken grunts alive and well to continue his attempts to recreate and reverse however the Agency had shrunken them before. Four however….well that wasn’t the biggest loss in the world if something happened to go wrong. Leaning a little more heavily over the table he grabbed one of the last two grunts, shoving the struggling body into his mouth head first. Quite the sight it was to watch flailing legs be slurped into someone’s mouth like nothing more than wet noodles. Interesting and horrifying.
Glp
Glrk~
Though compared to seeing someone who had been beside you ten minutes ago disappear down your captor’s throat as nothing more than a barely visible lump would top it in the scarring scale. Nothing could compare to that sight. Good god was it terrifying. The reality that escape was impossible was all but cemented into the remaining grunts' brains now, as that had been what had gotten their companions into this situation in the first place. This was happening because their capturer wanted to prove his point that attempted escape would not be tolerated. At this point they were convinced they’d have to have a death wish to attempt escape now. Especially when their conditions weren’t horrible compared to what they could be in, something which hadn’t crossed their minds till now. Now don’t take their words wrong, by no means did they want to stay here. Especially not now. However, if it meant living another day and not ending up as lunch? Staying definitely was the preferable option.
“One to go. Damn.” The hacker's voice snapped all attention back to him. His position had changed, now leaning back on the table as he looked over the struggling form in his hands. The words seemed to flow from his mouth without too much thought needed behind them. They just felt…right. It was a feeling he never expected to experience in such a context that he was now, much less to have it almost piloting him as it felt now, but he was nearly willing to say he welcomed it. He wasn't well acquainted with the idea of eating living beings after all, so the subconscious help to ease the process along wasn’t something he’d push away. Not unless it were to cause an issue that is. However, nothing of the sort had happened yet, meaning he was going to keep letting his actions flow naturally.
Just as he had with the three before this one, 2b wasted little time starting towards his goal. Raising the grunt just above his head the man dangled the flailing body over his open mouth, a sight that he could assume would terrify anyone in the grunt’s position. All went smoothly as he lowered the small body in. That is until the grunt, having seen an opportunity and taken it, grabbed and yanked down his mic. While he tried to react as quickly as possible, he could only pray the microphone had not managed to pick up the gag he’d made after panic and shock had caused him to jolt forward and send the grunt to the back of his throat. He flipped up the mic as fast as he could, trying to determine the best course of action one could take with a squirming body halfway down their throat and a possibility of having just been ratted out to the others by their lunch. He was screwed were they to find out, what with how at least two of the three always seemed to be looking for teasing ammunition. That and this….well this wasn’t exactly normal, you know.
“Doc? Is everything ok over there?” Fuck. That wasn’t good. Ignoring the sinking feeling of dread in his chest the best he could, 2b took a deep breath and forced the fourth grunt down with a swallow that took a little more effort then he felt it should’ve. Flipping down the mic, he answered.
“Damnit- yes. I'm fine, Sanford. Don’t worry.” The sentence had to be his least convincing lie yet. Between his heavy breathing and dryness in his throat he could tell his voice wasn’t helping him in any way. Now he didn’t take his teammates for idiots, despite how it sure seemed like they were sometimes, but in the moment he found himself wishing they were.
“You sure? You don’t sound all that fine. Did something happen back at base?” The worry beginning to lace the man’s voice through the static filled earpiece only served to worsen the feeling of dread in 2b’s chest. He needed to get Sanford, and the others who were no doubt listening, off the idea something had happened. He needed to deal with the whole I-just-swallowed-four-people-alive thing before they came back, so them returning early was not in the plan.
“No, nothing happened.” He shot back, only realizing the speed in his voice wasn’t too reassuring after he said it. Ok, what was a believable excuse for why he sounded like he did? “I just…spilt coffee on my legs after burning my mouth. Must’ve knocked the mic down in the process.” With a hand to his chest the hacker forced a soft swallow, trying to at least get rid of the uncomfortable dryness that had settled in the back of his throat. Please say they believed that.
“Pft, really? Damn, wish I could’ve seen that. Think you looked like one of those old cartoons, Doc?” Phew, crisis averted.
“Real funny, Deimos. Get back to your mission.” 2b shook his head at the comment. At least they seemed to believe him. It was worth it, even if the mental image of those over exaggerated cartoon characters was now going to show up whenever he even slightly burnt his mouth on coffee. Oh well, some sacrifices must be made.
“Alright alright. We’re going.” The man on the other end laughed. Those idiots. Damn his heart caring for them, now he was attached. “See you when we get back. Over and out, Doc!” And there they went.
Fighting off his own soft laughter, 2b flipped up his mic. A soft sigh escaped him before he could even think to stop it. That could’ve been horrible. While one hand softly rubbed at his neck, sore from what he had to guess was the miniature disaster that just took place, the other gently laid itself over his stomach. The four inside never seemed to stop moving, constantly squirming and slipping about. There were a handful of reasons he could assume was the cause, though the most likely was that being shoved into a soaking wet moving sack with three of your colleagues provided little traction or ability to get comfortable. That and panic. Panic was probably a rather big factor in how they were feeling. 2b, on the other hand, had to be feeling the exact opposite of how they were. The warm weight of his four ‘victims’ was a welcome sensation within the previously empty pit of his stomach. As twisted as he knew it sounded, he would’ve been confident saying that what he was feeling was honestly satisfactory. Why having living beings stretch and actually round out his stomach in a barely noticeable way was causing this feeling was a mystery to him, but at the moment he couldn’t find it in himself to care. Not when it felt this nice.
“I hope I’ve made my point clear.” The unofficial medic hummed, looking over to the grunt filled cage. They had backed away from him by now, huddled in the back most corner of their confines. The sight drew a genuine laugh from the man they all seemed to fear ten times more than before. Well that was proof if he’d ever seen it. Looks like their escape wasn’t something he had to worry about any more. So maybe he sacrificed a little of his ‘I’m not going to hurt you’ act for this. It was worth it in his eyes. And besides, he was probably the most gentle with them out of his whole little gang. If they wanted to be left with one of the others then go ahead. Although being left with the mercenary who you were created to kill didn’t sound like the most fun time to him. Smirking, he collected his goggles, mask, and tablet from the table. “It seems I have. Glad we could have this little -hic!- chat. Heh.”
He gave the cage a pat, the rattling of the metal only serving to scare the grunts further back in the ball of bodies they’d curled into, before turning to walk back to his desk. He needed to sit down. Standing apparently became a lot harder when you had four people fighting against your insides. Thinking back, he didn’t know what he would have expected. Did he stumble a little bit trying to get back to his desk? Yes, he did. It was like he forgot how to walk in all honesty. Another reason he was glad he was alone in their base. Like most things though it proved worth it when he finally collapsed into the worn chair he used for work. Without thinking twice he opened his tablet and started a new log.
—————————
“Doc! We’re back!” The call rang out through the appartement, followed by three sets of footsteps marching their way in and the door slamming shut perhaps a little stronger than needed. As the hinges of the door stopped rattling the three expected to hear a displeased groan, followed by the ruffled form of 2b appearing in the hallway to scold them for being so aggressive or something like tracking blood into the base. Honestly, why he still bothered was a mystery to them, at least Sanford and Deimos for they had zero clue what went on in Hank’s head, for the most part. They were mercenaries, fighters, people looking to not end up with their brains splattered on the wall or something worse. They were going to be bloody upon returning, even if that blood wasn’t their own. It wasn’t like their floors were carpet or anything either. In the end though they never bothered to fight the scoldings. No use making the unofficial medic mad, especially if they needed help. The lack of disgruntled medic in the hallway or at least yelling when silence returned to the room was worrying. After a minute or two with nothing spoken and no ruffled hacker to be seen, Deimos tried again to call him.
“2b?” He called out, peering down the hallway which led to their rooms. There wasn’t any blood on the walls, a good sign to start, and no bullet holes that weren’t there before. Unless the Agency suddenly learned how to do stealth missions, something he and he knew the other two were hoping wasn’t the case, he had hopes. Again, no response from the man. Gun still in his hand he took one glance back to the others, a silent ‘follow me’, before continuing down the hallway. Although Deimos had made it to the closed door first he’d been pushed past by the red goggle wearing giant as he reached for the doorknob. Hank had been the one to open the door to 2b’s room. He’d also been the first of the trio to feel the tension in his shoulders drop. It wasn’t long after he had relaxed that he was shoved into the room by two bodies trying to get in and see any damage that could’ve been done while they were gone. The sight of 2BDamned softly snoring away in his chair, nothing in the room seeming out of place, was most certainly a welcome one.
“Ah. So that’s why he isn’t barking us up a tree for your entrance, Dei.” Sanford hummed with a laugh, careful to watch his volume. If there was one thing he didn’t want to deal with after their mission it was a cranky Doc who got woken up by them. It wasn’t a secret he didn’t necessarily sleep after all and there was no way he could survive off coffee like he seemed to silently claim he could sometimes. They all had times when their sleep schedules were fucked.
“Oh shut up, ‘Ford.” Deimos shot back with a playful punch to the man’s bicep. “It’s not like I’m the one who slammed the door. That’s what he would’ve been on our asses about.”
“You slammed it open then yelled loud enough for all of Nevada to hear you. Don’t act like you’re innocent!”
As the two’s words morphed into friendly bickering Hank took it upon himself to deliver the bit of what they got that couldn’t stay in the duffle bag slung over his shoulder at the moment. Buried in the pocket of his jacket was a small object. Something he hadn’t expected to find, but had snagged nonetheless when it had been pointed out by Deimos. For a second as he walked over to the man a rough hand dug around fabric, fingers gripping plastic as he arrived at his destination. Without thinking he tossed the USB onto the hacker’s desk, eyes wandering over small things like the empty coffee mug or discarded goggles. Behind red-tinted goggles they landed on the man’s tablet, the screen now illuminated thanks to what he could assume had been the small drive hitting the desk. Prying wasn’t something he often did when it came to his teammates, respecting their privacy as they often did his, but after a certain word caught his eye he couldn’t help but read the log that had popped up.
Title: Experiment 05SB
Time: 7:42 pm, xx/xx/xx
Author: 2BDamned
Note: I…cannot believe I’m about to write this. This is update one of Experiment 05SB, an experiment started without much if any bit of a proper plan behind it. Phase I, I suppose you could call it, was a success. The shrunken grunts are, in fact, small enough to swallow whole and…alive. MAGs have not yet been confirmed to be the same way, though I’m sure that answer will show itself one day. I am unsure why I am able to keep four of them down without feeling nauseated, but I can. I will update at a later time when more information has presented itself.
The log ended there, eyes falling away from the screen as Hank’s mind worked to process the information it had just been given. According to what had been written before the man had fallen victim to sleep, it was not only possible to swallow the shrunken beings sitting in one of the cages behind him, but the unofficial doctor had done it himself. Four times to be exact. Curiosity grabbed control of his eyes, slowly panning them up to the cage of grunts who looked noticeably more terrified than they usually did. Had they seen the whole thing go down? His mind continued to wander, finding new questions like how on earth the hacker had managed to keep living and no doubt moving beings down like the log said he did. That is unless he’d spit them up before falling asleep. However that seemed highly unlikely-
“Snooping around Doc’s stuff, are we Hank~?” When Deimos had appeared behind him was beyond the mercenary, though the shock of hearing his voice out of the blue was enough to startle him into quickly powering off 2b’s tablet and whipping around to face the two that now stood across with him with far too smug looks on their faces for his liking.
“Woah there, big guy! We didn’t mean any trouble.” Sanford cooed, the fucking Chad cooed, holding his hands up as if he was under some sort of arrest. “Just wanted to know what you were reading over here is all~.”
“Yeah, exactly. I never expected to find you clicking through Doc’s diary.” Deimos added on nearly flawlessly. Sometimes he really hated how well they worked together. Namely when it was against him. “So, was it a love confession~?”
Hank sighed, glaring at the two through his goggles. He sure fucking hoped they could see the look on his face, despite most of it being covered by bandages and his mask. Because he was not amused and he wanted them to know it.
“No, not a love confession, you morons.” He groaned, shaking his head. Telling them straight off what it said would probably be horrible. At the moment he was still having a few difficulties understanding parts of what he read. Lying just seemed like the best choice overall. It wasn’t like he’d be the only one doing so, after all. It sure seemed like 2b did to them over the mic. Speaking of the man, Hank turned around to take a good look at him. At first glance he seemed like he normally did when he passed out in his chair from overworking himself like this. It was only when Hank took an extra second to look and let the information in his brain guide him did he see the slightly out of place softness around the sleeping hacker’s stomach. Unable to help himself Hank felt his ruined remaining lip quirk up into a small smirk under his mask as he turned around to shove the Dumbass Duo out of the room so 2b could sleep.
“Bunch’a nonsense, is all. Now move. I don’t wanna deal with him if you idiots wake him up and we still have shit to put away.”

5 and 12 :D
heyy!! hope ur doin well :D (dteamblr ask game)
5. when did you first start watching their content? what got you into it?
I’m gonna be real honest and say I really didn’t like Dream when I first got into their content in early 2020, not bc I specifically disliked him or anything, but because I was a bitch about liking the same mcyts as my sisters—my younger sister was actually the first one to watch dt content in my house! Eventually I got one of the death shuffles recommended to me and I caved, albeit in the middle of the night with headphones on so no one would hear. Got hooked on the dnf dynamic from their duo videos, then the dteam dynamic off their challenge vids, and here I am 2 years later still going strong off the same 3 losers even though my sister’s lost most interest lmfao
12.  talk about your favorite dynamic that they have with each other or someone else
Oh this could be a long one, I could talk about dteam dynamics for ages and go on and on, I don’t really have a preference because they’re all wonderful
First off, Dreamnap, the ultimate brothers from another mother, partners in crime for a decade, and absolute soulmates. Their dynamic is crude and hilarious and so full of love that they even have their own little nickname of “brother” when they want to convey all of their care in just a word—from the tweet after Sap had surgery to Dream’s 30k donation on stream, you can tell that behind the angry gamer exterior they’re a couple of softies! Dream gives the world and more to Sapnap and Sapnap acts like he’d defend the guy until his own lungs give out, so as long as Dream isn’t directing his anger towards him. They’re toxic in the best way possible where behind every jab is a bastion of history and trust. Their friendship has been through ups and downs and from what it seems, they’d lay down their lives for one another if it came down to it.
Secondly is SNF, the original duo of menaces to their tired keepers. I remember back in the day during early dteam content where I genuinely thought they hated each other, especially after they “bonded” to annoy Dream during one of the dteam videos. In retrospect I was an idiot 😭 their antics came from their kindred spirit—even now, they egg each other on to do the worst things possible and act like actual siblings. Sapnap looks up to George like an older brother (and has apparently said as much, to George’s chagrin) and George could give less of a shit about a brotherly dynamic, and sees in Sap someone he can drop his guard and be himself with like the gremlin he really is. Ofc, the two of them do genuinely just have fun together and can spend just as long as any other dteam duo, evidenced by their apparently characteristic long calls in teamspeak that Bad alluded to in a past stream. Idk I just love that they’re so in sync about all of their shenanigans and bits (mcc roleplay…) but when it comes down to it they do just genuinely find comfort in one another’s presence and can build each other up just as much as they can knock one another down :]
And finally the elephant in the room, the shitshow of DNF. Idk where to even start with these two, I feel like Dream’s tweets honestly sum it up better than I ever could—their dynamic and teamwork started the entire Drempire of content, with George putting all of his trust into some 20 year old from Florida despite having a lucrative degree and what sounds like an insanely competitive level of talent, and Dream working like hell to make sure that George didn’t waste his shot. They started the empire, roped all their friends in, and managed to create one of the most successful content groups in internet history. The trusting bond they share seems almost inhuman. That’s not to mention the amount of care and love that goes unsaid but not unheard. We’ve seen them tunnel vision within calls filled with upwards of a dozen people. Despite never having met, they know each other scarily well, knowing the intricacies of how each others’ brains work, how to annoy each other, and especially how to fluster the other. There’s just something particular about the ways that the two of them constantly gravitate towards each other, use those disgustingly sweet voices, and, well, play into the dnfing. I don’t think anyone is advocating harder for dnf to be real than dnf 😭 from fanart likes to quips to lord knows what kind of off-camera conversations they have, no one is doing it like them. Anyways. I said SNF are in sync and while that’s true, it doesn’t hold a candle to the shit that these two pull with the equally horrible sexts and fond reactions to each others’ voices and presences. They’re obsessed with doing things together sometimes and it makes everyone in the local vicinity want to gouge their ears out and I can’t say I blame them! I’d do the same 😒😒 Idk I just adore the dynamic capabilities of their relationship that can be pulled and interpreted in a million different directions, when at the end of the day it does just come down to them having an insanely strong love for one another :>
and all together they are just complete menaces needing parental supervision, egging each other on to do the dumbest shit or working in duos to fuck with the other person. but like all the other duo dynamics, their bond is immeasurable and a delight to get to witness, and I can’t wait to see that translate to them irl!

Right now, people are speculating if tomura has lost his humanity which includes his attachment to the league now that he was awakened with his new quirk as a ‘transcendent being’. I wonder how he will interact with his team when he returns? Will he question how the heroes managed to get the jump on them? How will he react to twice’s death? To Dabi letting in a hero spy into their lair and causing this raid and twice’s death? Is the tomura we have seen grow disappeared or is he still the same?
Tumblr media
SHIGARAKI TOMURA - A VERY HUMAN VILLAIN
People may question if Shigaraki Tomura has lost his humanity since acquiring AFO’s power, however I would like to point out that it’s a running theme in the manga for characters to frequently question the humanity of Shigaraki and see him as something less than human, or a force that only exists for evil and destruction.
However, despite the fact that the heroes and Shigaraki’s enemies insist that Shigaraki has lost his humanity, the story shows the opposite. As much as Shigaraki has changed over the course of the story, he has also stayed the same.
Shigaraki started out as a kid who wanted to be a hero who saved others, and specifically a kid who would go out of his way to play with the bullied kids. Everyone knows this by now, I would say however growing up in that household shaped Shigaraki to have core values that don’t really change no matter how much he changes as a person.
Tumblr media
Number one, the most important thing to Shigaraki is freedom. In a childish way he sees it as the freedom to do whatever he wants, because that is how All For One influenced him.
Tumblr media
All for One specifically told Shigaraki that being born with the power to destroy means that he should use it without restraint, and never try to hold himself back because in doing so he’ll only hurt himself. AFO tried to influence him to be an unstable manchild because that would make him more dangerous and fearsome to the general public.
However, Shigaraki’s destruction is always a response. He always destroys for a reason no matter how much he insists his destruction is completely random. One of the key themes of My Hero Academia is that in times of crisis you will remember your origin. Shigaraki’s origin is a household that oppressed him to the extent that he wasn’t allowed to become a hero. All he wanted was someone in that household to agree with him rather than deny him. He wanted people to stop telling him he was wrong.
Shigaraki values freedom, specifically freedom from oppression. Oppression that specifically denies the needs of an individual just because they disrupt society. For example, the opppression that had Himiko’s parents turn abusive on her calling her a demon child because she was born with a strange quirk.
Tumblr media
In that way Shigaraki fights for a kind of true liberation, different from what the liberation force fights for. The Meta Liberation Army while wanting to overturn society also repeated several of society’s oppressive attitude, juding people’s worth based entirely on the strength of their quirk whereas Shigaraki is willing to accept people like Compress, and Spinner who do not have super powerful combat efficient quirks and value them just as much as all the other members from his team.
Tumblr media
Shigaraki also knows the feelings of someone who has not been saved. He’s reflected on this several times, even as early back as his conversation with Deku. He knows that the way the current society functions, it ignores the plights of victims like him that are either too inconvenient to save.
It’s what Shigaraki says to Deku word for word: “I could hurt you right now and not a single person would come save you. They’ll all walk by and pretend it’s none of their business, because they all think a hero is going to come save them.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shigaraki is willing to give people like Twice a chance, even though he was insane and his quirk no longer worked as well as it once did. Not only that, but when people make mistakes Shigaraki never throws them away. Giran is captured and ratted them out, and Shigaraki went to go save them. Twice makes a mistake and because of that Magne is killed, but rather than get angry at Twice, Shigaraki simply asks Twice to do his best to make up for his mistake, and that he’ll be doing his best alongside him.
Shigaraki understands the feelings of: “If only somebody had saved me” better than anyone else in the manga. This is something that even the kids don’t question. The kids in their complete and unwavering faith in the hero system can’t even respond to questions like “Who should you really be saving?”
Tumblr media
Shigaraki also goes out of his way to save people even after they’ve made mistakes, or betrayed the league. Giran ratted on them and got nearly every member killed, and yet not only did Shigaraki walk right into a trap to save him, he also took special care to make sure he was alive, and rescued safely when he was in the middle of getting pounded.
Tumblr media
The final is also somewhat of a paradox. Shigaraki has been manipulated to think that he hated his family, and  wanted to kill everyone.
Tumblr media
However, all of Shigaraki’s actions show the opposite. Not only does Shigaraki feel guilt for killing his family several years after the fact. Not only did he intentionally hold back his quirk at first because he was afraid of killing again. The words of his family stayed with him. Shigaraki only ever remembers his family in a mostly positive light.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In his heart, Shigaraki holds himself accountable for what he did to his family even though it was an accident. At the same time, it’s revealed to us in his dream sequence that he already forgives his family for what transpired today, he remembers his grandparents being kind to him, he doesn’t resent his mom for just watching what his family did to him and even reassures her, he tells his sister he doesn’t care that she tattled on him anymore.
Tumblr media
His family is someone he can never forget in both senses of the word. He doesn’t forget the times his family household was kind to him, the genuine love his mother, grandparents, and sister all showed to him, and he hasn’t really stopped mourning them ever for a single moment. He even still keeps Nana’s hand, the last hand that wasn’t broken and wears it after his so called “liberation” from his past memories of them. Yet, at the same time he doesn’t allow his family to deny who he is.
Tumblr media
Shigaraki is someone who has been influenced by people all of ihs life, his abusive father, AFO, and then all of AFO’s constituents and the other villains he’s fought against so far. However, at the same time Shigaraki has remained the same kid throughout all of this. Always Shimura Tenko. Always the kid who wanted to play with the kids who got bullied. Always the kid resentful he didn’t get saved.
2. Shigaraki is better than what created him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eri is referred to as a cursed inhuman existence born only to destroy, simply because of the quirk she was born with, completely neglecting who Eri is as a person. Deku however says that just by slightly changing your perspective, you can see how kind and gentle Eri is.
Shigaraki is a character much like this. The people around him, mostly heroes always insist that he’s inhuman and again and again that he can only want destruction because of his quirk. Yet, the people closest to Shigaraki know how kind, and gentle he can be.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So we have characters like All Might, Mr. Completely Ignores Endeavor’s abuse of his own family, constantly saying that someone like Shigaraki can’t possibly have a cause for all of his destruction. Ignoring what Shigaraki says when he tells them that heroes can be violent too just like villains, their violence is just categorized differently.
Tumblr media
Shigaraki is continually told he has no reason for wanting to destroy things, that there could be no possible motivation behind his actions. This is something that even AFO himself said, that Shigaraki simply lusted for destruction because he was born that way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Characters insist again, that Shigaraki isn’t capable of creating anything, or achieving anything because he can only destroy. This is an identity that’s forced on him by his environment ut it’s not who he is at the center of his being. Even when he’s getting the tar beaten out of him by Re-Destro what he thinks is not that he wants to destroy, but rather that he wanted his family to tell him it was okay for him to be a hero.
Tumblr media
So we reach the most recent chapter with someone once again asserting that Shigaraki cannot possibly want anything other than to hurt the people around him, and destroy what he can.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even ENDEAVOR (lol) of all people accuses Shigaraki of not fighting for the right ideals. Yet, Shigaraki has always shown to be fighting for something.
Tumblr media
People insist that Shigaraki was just born that way, that he just wants to destroy. Yet, there are very specific environmental factors that shaped him into who he is. Shigaraki who apparently has no reasons for doing the things he does, has the longest backstory in the series (four origin chapters in total if you count Shigaraki Tomura: Distortion). Shigaraki’s line against Endeavor also implies that Shigaraki has been fighting for the same thing from the start. That he’s always had a cause, something to fight for (or maybe even just fight against) and that he simply believed what other people constantly told him.
So, no clearly the All For One quirk being given to Shigaraki has not changed who he is as a person at all. Shigaraki’s thoughts always rest with his friends and his family.  Shigaraki’s first literal action upon waking up is to call Machia to his side, and protect the league. Shigaraki’s actions also saved Himiko, because if Machia had not picked her up she likely would have gone on a suicide mission.
Tumblr media
So, there is one last point I want to make: The reason the plan is going so wrong right now is precisely because Shigaraki is someone who chooses again and again to put his trust in others. First, it went wrong because not only did he allow Dabi free reign to invite whoever he wanted to the league, but he also trusted Twice with his location.
Tumblr media
Shigaraki won’t throw Dabi out of the league for saying that he’s only here to use the league for his own benefit, because Shigaraki has always known this about Dabi and lets him work with the league anyway. Shigaraki is someone who puts his allies before themselves and gives them the freedom to be who they want to be.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shigaraki has said mutliple times the league can do whatever they want. He’s not really selfishly minded or motivated like AFO is. If anything, Shigaraki is much more likely to sacrifice himself, or put the group’s needs first. The Shigaraki that we’ve seen right now is the same progression of the Shigaraki we’ve always known: he fights on the front lines to draw the heroes away from his friends, he fights himself instead of needlessly risking his own allies, he needs his allies by his side.
The raid happened because of Shigaraki’s trusting nature twice. Not only because he allowed Dabi to invite Hawks to the league, but also Kurogiri’s capture and betrayal someone Shigaraki was genuinely close to and listened to for counsel led to his location at the hospital being ratted out to both Eraserhead and Mic. So it’s not Shigaraki not trusting others that led to the Hospital Raid, but rather it’s because Shigaraki chose to trust others that this is all happening.
YET, when this happened last time with Overhaul Shigaraki didn’t stop trusting others. He didn’t throw Twice out. His choice back then was to take responsibility and trust Twice even more to fix the mistake he made. Which will likely be his response again.
Tumblr media
Shigaraki also fights against anyone who tries to control or oppress him the same way his father did once. When AFO tries to physically control his own body, he frees himself of the vestiges.
Shigaraki won’t lose his trust in other people, and won’t lose his close relationship with the league, because Shigaraki has already sustained this kind of loss before. Over and over again. He loses most of the Nomus, he loses Magne, he loses AFO. Yet, at those times when he loses these things Shigaraki’s response is always the same.
Shigaraki is struggling to be better that the environment that created him. Shigaraki’s arc is not one of him losing his humanity, but rather Shigaraki keeping his humanity in the face of constant losses.
Tumblr media
His environment is really truly something that should have robbed him of his humanity. There are people like AFO who are out there to make him into a puppet, to rob him of all agency, and identity. Yet, Shigaraki always fights back against those trying to control him and tell him no.
Shigaraki won’t turn on the league, because his connections with the league are what make him human. It’s his connections with others he makes over and over again in the face of his extremely oppressive environment, first with Kurogiri, then with the league that allows him to stay the same at the core of who he is.
While Shigaraki is constantly dehumanized by both the hero system and the villains he fights against, he’s actually one of the most human characters in the whole series. Not only is he very sympathetic and understandable where exactly he is coming from, but he’s also always, always, always, always, struggling against a set of very human flaws.

So, I'm interested in what you think of the Joker. Like, how do you see his character? Do you like the variations where he could be redeemed or no? How do you feel about his relationship with Bruce and how they sort of depend on each other? Which one is your favourite, dark funny murdery Joker or lighter cartoonier murdery joker? -<3
The Joker is an interesting villain because he’s so completely dissonant to everything that the Gotham setting is. In a place where the villains are damaged people who often have sympathetic or even good-intentioned reasons for turning to villainy and then just go too far, the Joker stands out for having no discernable motivation or grievance. He just shows up one day doing absolutely vile things because he thinks they’re funny. I love that, because there’s nothing scarier than someone who’s evil just for the fun of it - they’re irrational. They can’t be reasoned with, they can’t be understood, they can’t be stopped. The Joker is so terrifying because you can’t understand him.
A “redeemable” Joker goes against all of that and makes me sad. The thing about Batman is that he’s logical and rational at all times. He’s a detective, he believes in cause and effect, and even his backstory is perfectly reasonable. He can’t let go of his grief so he adopts the black-and-white worldview that defines his moral code - his bat motif comes from his childhood fear of bats, thinking they’re the scariest thing ever - and so forth. The Joker is the antithesis of that, defying reason, convention, logic, and sanity.
The Joker is also not meant to be morally grey. The Joker is evil, full stop. Stories with him in it are not meant to make the Joker sympathetic or deal with any development, but to explore how the Joker affects those around him, whether it’s corrupting Dr. Harleen Quinzel or attempting to drive Batman insane. The Joker is not really a person, he’s a force. A static character in a world of rounded characters, and it works. The Joker is perversion and corruption of the highest degree - he takes humor and color and fun and makes it evil and dangerous, and nobody comes into contact with him without being tested by his madness. There’s no redeeming the Joker because the Joker doesn’t operate under the rules of humanity - he’s inhuman in his cruelty; that’s the whole point.
His relationship with Bruce is incredibly interesting. Basically, the Joker’s worldview comes down to this - All it takes is one bad day to make everyone just as crazy and warped as him. The world is just a thread from snapping, and it’s his job not to just tip the scales, but blow them up as colorfully and crazily as possible. He depends on Bruce because chaos cannot exist without there being order to oppose it. If everything was chaotic, the Joker would oppose it simply because it’d be different. It’s interesting that the Joker is so interested in Batman, sometimes in a psuedo-sexual manner. The Joker is obsessed with corrupting Batman’s purity, just in the same way that Bruce is obsessed with trying to contain the Joker’s chaos while adhering to his moral code. The way Bruce deals with the Joker really does, for me, bring home that Bruce is not okay. The reason he can withstand the Joker as well as he does is because he himself is not mentally healthy. Bruce can stand up to the Joker’s chaos because of the denial and grief preventing him from processing the world in its nuanced detail.
They’re the unstoppable force and the immovable object. And unless one of them changes, they’re forever locked in a battle, unable to accept that neither of them can win. If Batman dies or is corrupted, the Joker would quickly lose interest and vanish - nobody else matters to him as much as Batsy.
Honestly, I love the campy funny lighthearted Joker because he’s so much more terrifying. Heath Ledger as the Joker was dark and yet still kept up that cartoonish craziness well, but my heart always belongs to the Mark Hamill version of the Joker - the one who blends the realism and camp. That Joker makes puns and jokes and is always so excitable and can at times be genuinely funny - which stands in opposition to his horrible deeds, and that dissonance makes him even more terrifying.
I think the Joker that is less understandable, like a cartoony Joker, is better because while being impossible to figure out, he also has a strange magnetism and charisma Batman lacks. Humor is disarming - the fact that the Joker blends fun and fear is so intriguing. It also very well symbolizes Batman and the Joker themselves - Batman is fear and reason, and we often have good reasons for what we fear. The Joker is humor and illogic, and scientists still have no idea what purpose our bodies have in laughing...

The Cursed book. Chapter 12
Chapter 12: Neal is reunited with the demon and his father and learns about how dire the situation truly is.
Summary: When Belle finds a strange book in an abandoned library she has no idea what hell it would unleash upon the small town.
---
Belle had practically been dragged through most of Storybrooke it felt like by the demon. Not that there was much of an issue when it came to that, because no one seemed to notice them. Another part of the demon’s power, she figured. However… now her arm and legs were getting rather tired.
All of the sudden the demon seemed to find what he was looking for.
“There he is!” he pointed toward a bit of a scruffy looking young man who was standing next to a blond woman. Belle noticed that they acted… a bit different… than the rest of the people around.
Because they were unaffected by the demon’s powers.
“BAE!” the demon exclaimed and not letting go of Belle he hugged the man who seemed to brace himself against impact.
“Ugh…” the young man groaned as his father slammed into him. “Hi dad…”
“It has been so long! I have missed you! What have you been up to?” Rumplestiltskin’s questions came quickly as he let go, but had a hold of the young man’s arm.
Belle had to admit she was rather confused about what was going on. He had told her about his son… or… the son of the man the demon was inhabiting.
“Ah, Bae, let me introduce you to Belle, I love her!” Rumplestiltskin was excitedly mentioning towards her. “Or… well… we are on it… the human dating things are rather… confusing, but… it has been fun so far.”
Neal glanced rather confused over at Belle… she looked like a normal human.
“Uh… nice to meet you,” he nodded towards her.
“Same…” Belle swallowed.
“So… how did you two meet?” Neal had to ask.
“She let me out of the book, and since then we have gotten rather close!” Rumple was quick to say.
“So… she let you out…” Neal began.
“I didn’t know!” Belle felt the need to defend herself.
“She really didn’t… you know how I am quite good at the whole… tricking humans into doing that,” Rumple shrugged his shoulders.
“Yeah… that is not the part which is surprising me… the fact that she is alive is… you tend to… eat the ones that let you out,” Neal continued, trying to speak carefully, so that he wouldn’t freak this woman out… but he had a feeling she knew already.
“Well… she was different… something… drew me to her… which is why I decided to… not do the usual charade. She isn’t quite comfortable with the whole...” he leaned closer to the young man. “... eating people bit…”
Rumple made a slight innocent grimace.
“That explains why there are so many people left…” Neal looked around. No doubt this Belle had saved a lot of people.
Emma stood there just watching this conversation go on as she shook her head in disbelief.
“This is insane, you are aware of this right?!” she had to exclaim. Rumplestiltskin’s attention was then drawn to her, cocking his head slightly.
“Now who is this? I mean… I sensed that you were with someone this time,” he said with a soft tone as he looked Emma up and down. Emma felt the need to take a step back as there was an unnatural glow behind them.
It was… an inhumanity to them which she really did not like.
“Yeah… this is Emma, she is my girlfriend,” Neal explained.
“Emma…” Rumplestiltskin grinned. “Been a long time since you have brought a girlfriend to meet me.”
“Well… hard to explain with the whole… demon thing…” Neal sighed.
“I suppose that is true…” the demon shrugged his shoulders. “Very nice to meet you Emma!”
Neal simply stepped between his father and his girlfriend.
“You have to go back into the book,” Neal said with a firm tone. A practically vicious grin spread across Rumple’s face, Belle feeling as if her heart was about to drop down into her stomach.
“Now… that is not going to be possible…” he then said.
“What do you mean? Where is it?!” Neal was getting a bit desperate.
“Well…” the demon dragged out the word. “Belle might have made a bit of a mistake… it is not her fault exactly she didn’t know better. I seem to have scared her a bit when I first spoke to her after I got out from the book, so…”
Neal looked at Belle with wide eyes. “What did you do?”
“I… I burned it…” Belle let out with a slight whimper in her voice. Neal’s soul looked like it had left his body at this point.
“You burned it?!”
“I didn’t know! I thought it would get rid of him! That is how it usually goes in the stories!” she exclaimed.
“I tried to tell her not to do it… but… she didn’t listen to me…” the demon could not hide that satisfied grin on his lips.
Belle felt her stomach turn again. “I… I thought he was lying…”
Neal was now clutching his head, letting out a desperate groan. “That was our only way to contain him! Now…”
“Well… it wasn’t perfect, I still got out rather often,” Rumplestiltskin shrugged his shoulders.
“But at least there would be a couple of decades between each time you got out!” Neal exclaimed. “And if I found you quickly enough I could…”
He didn’t finish the sentence, just going to his knees for a moment.
“Bae…”
For a moment Belle imagined that she could hear genuine remorse in the demon’s voice. It was clear the last thing he wanted was to hurt this man… but…
He did.
And she imagined he had done so for a long time.
Emma clutched the shoulders of her boyfriend, trying to show that she was there for him, even if she was still unsure of what was going on.
“So… we cannot get the genie back in the bottle it seems…” she swallowed.
“Eh… demon, not genie,” Rumplestiltskin felt the need to point out.
“Turn of phrase,” Belle whispered to Rumplestiltskin as he was still holding her hand.
“Ah… well… I just think there is quite a big difference between…” the demon then noticed how the rest looked at him.
“Suppose it is not a big deal…” he then shrugged his shoulder.
“I need to speak with my father…” Neal’s voice broke through as they all looked at the man standing himself up tall again.
“I am right here Bae,” the demon pointed towards himself.
“Not you, my real father,” Neal bit back at the demon, the anger for this malevolent entity showing in his face. Rumplestiltskin cocked his head.
“As you wish… Let me fetch him for you.”
Neal shook his head.
“No… I want to speak with him, WITHOUT you,” his teeth was grinding together in order to keep his voice from trembling.
The demon let out a long sigh.
“Bae…” his voice was lacking that jovial tone, which sent a chill down Belle’s back. “That is not good for you.”
“You do as I say!” Neal remained firm.
“As you wish son… but don’t take too long,” the demon’s eyes turned black as an agonized scream came from Rumplestiltskin’s mouth as it stretched almost impossibly wide as an oozing black smoke poured forth.
It was a horrifying thing to see this massive blackness of a demon make its way out of the body of a human, long clawed limbs digging their claws into the pavement with those three eyes staring down at them over several sets of salivating jaws.
Most of its body was too dark to see any features and it practically blocked out the sun once it finally left the poor man’s body who collapsed on the ground shivering.
“Holy shit…”
It was all Emma could say as she stared up at it.
Neal was clutching his chest, in clear agony, but reached out towards the man.
“PAPA!”
“I am sorry… I am so… so sorry…” the man whimpered.
“It is not your fault… it was never your fault!” Neal attempted to comfort his real father, who clutched his son close.
“I…” the man gasped as he looked up at Belle. “I am so sorry for what you have been put through… I…”
“It was my fault… I brought it forth… I burned the book… I…”
“No… it does that… it tricks you into thinking you are doing the right thing and then…” the man looked towards his son, who looked about ready to pass out.
“Bae?!”
“Neal?! What is happening to him?!” Emma grasped at Neal’s shoulder who was looking very pale.
“The deal…” the man… was that still Rumplestiltskin… or was that what the demon called itself? Belle wasn’t certain, and now was certainly not the time to find out. “It… it was that as long as the demon possessed me… Baelfire… my son would not die… and… it is not possessing me now…”
“He is dying…” the realization struck Emma deep, as she stared up in horror at the demon who was observing them closely.
“I… I can handle it…” Neal groaned.
“Bae… I should…” the man met the demon’s eyes.
“Not yet… I need to know… is the book truly gone?” Neal managed to get out. His father gave a shaky nod.
“Yes…” he swallowed.
“Have you learned about any other thing which can lock it away?!” Neal was clutching his chest.
“No. Bae… I… I am sorry…”
“Then what should we do? That was… that was our only…” Neal looked like he was about to pass out.
“I don’t… I don’t know… Bae… BAE?!”
It was clear that the young man was slipping. The man turned towards the demon who had been slowly running one of its black claws against Belle, having moved its infernal face close to the young woman.
It was a terrifying sight as those many jaws let down globs of saliva while two of those three eyes seemed to practically undress her. The last was watching what was going on.
“Belle…” the man caught her attention. “For all of this… I am sorry I dragged you into it…”
“I am sorry I destroyed everything…” she whispered, trying to keep herself from being pushed into one of those open maws. It seemed to be more… playing? rather than wanting to actually eat her.
The man then snapped his fingers to get the demon’s attention. “Get back inside now!”
The demon let out almost a huff, but gave Belle what she assumed was its attempt at a kiss with one of those drooling jaws before moving towards the man and turning mostly into smoke forced its way into the much smaller human body.
It looked… agonizing.
With the last part of the massive demon having pressed itself into a much smaller human body.
At once the demon had gotten inside, the man’s very countenance changed, he was straightening his back, more confident and intimidating from the man who had been nearly broken.
He moved his back, a wet snap being heard.
“Ngh… always such a tight fit…” he let out a slight sigh. The voice was the same, but the cadence had changed and the tone was darker than when the man had been speaking.
Neal took a deep breath, and it was clear that color was already returning to his cheeks.
“I told you that is not good for you,” he said with a soft tone.
“I…” Neal groaned as the demon helped him stand up, even straightening his hair slightly. “So… there is no way to lock you up anymore?”
The demon shrugged his shoulders slightly.
“There aren't many relics like that in the world anymore. Humanity spread all over and we… well we faded into the shadows… along with how to beat us I am afraid,” the demon explained with a shrugging of his shoulders. “Strange how humans forget huh?”
Neal looked practically defeated.
“So… there is no way to stop you?”
A wide grin spread across his father’s face as the demon inhabited his body leaned closer and whispered in the man’s ear.
“Never was.”

The Traveler’s Gift Deleted Scene
It’s funny how writing works sometimes. I thought for sure this deleted scene was going to make the final cut. No-so-spoiler alert: it did not. So, have some fun, non-spoilery deleted content in which Louis may or may not be jealous of his roommate’s flirtatious attitude.
Harmon hills psychiatric Hospital was an ancient, sprawling brick building on the outskirts of Chicago. Ivy clung to the weather-worn brick, the windows were barred, and on the first two floors the majority of the lights had been turned out for the night.
Louis had been here before, but the last time he had seen the ancient sprawling grounds, he’d been walking away from it instead of toward it. He tapped his fingers on his thigh. Maybe he could talk Slater into waiting a minute so he could have a smoke.
“Do it now,” Slater said.
He blinked and looked at the other man. “Do what?”
“Suck on your cancer stick. You might as well do it now because once we’re inside for the night we’re stuck there.”
He looked at him for a long moment. He knew he hadn’t said that out loud. “How did you know?”
“Your fingers twitch when you want to smoke.”
He didn’t waste time. “So,” he asked, the unlit cigarette between his lips, “how did Rick get his hands on a place like this?”
The flame of his lighter was winked back at him in Slater’s reflective lenses. “Papa O’Brien’s funds allowed for the hospital to stay afloat a few years back. In exchange for the money, Rick gets to keep some of his assets here without too many people asking questions.”
Of course. Somebody like Rick would have the finances and power to pull something like that off. As long as the doctors who worked at Harmon Hills stayed content and quiet with their hush-money, he had no reason to fear betrayal.
The scent of lemon floor polish hit him sinus-clearing force as soon as they stepped across the threshold. A massive chandelier reflected light onto the shining floor. Potted plants stood at attention in the corners, a bust of a man—the founder of the hospital—sat next to a large desk.
A woman in a uniform sat at the desk. “Excuse me,” she said, stopping them. “It’s past visiting hours.”
“We’re not here to visit.” Slater leaned on the desk and gave her a charming smile. “Peter called, do you know him? He wants us to come and relieve him. His relief is out with an injury and we’re here to save the day.”
She blushed and flicked a piece of hair that had fallen from her ponytail behind her ear. “Really?”
“Would I lie to you…” he paused to lean closer so he could read a name tag clipped to her shirt, “Julie?”
Despite their obvious ten—if not more—year age gap, she gave him a bashful smile. “I suppose not, Mr.…”
“O’Brien.”
“Do you know where to find Peter?”
“Yes, sweetheart.” He pushed easily off the desk and flicked an invisible piece of lint off of the black t-shirt. “Maybe I’ll see you around, Jill?”
“Julie. I’d like that.”
He winked; behind his glasses, the gesture was just a twitch of his cheek.
Julie turned even more red, if it were possible.
The entire interaction left Louis feeling mildly uncomfortable. He tried to recall a time he’d seen Slater flirting with somebody, aside from someone at the bar, and he was drawing blanks. Sure, he and Virginia sweet-talked to each other, but it was more friendly banter than it was actual “flirting”.
By the time they got off the elevator, any signs of Slater’s easy and flirtatious demeanor was gone. He seemed more agitated and angry than anything else. He jabbed a button on a box that sat mounted next to a set of double doors. “Open up, Pete!”
There was a pause before the doors slowly swung open.
Louis remembered Peter. He remembered his thinning gray hair, the way his round glasses sat low on his nose, and the way his face had been creased with aging lines. He knew better than to be fooled by Peter’s age. He remembered how swiftly his old bones had moved to shove a needle in his neck.
Peter waved a hand and motioned for them to come in. “It’s been one hell of a day, boys.”
Slater had no patience for small talk ninety percent of the time and he had none to spare for the older man. “How many of them are there?”
“Four.”
“What was the last time they were dosed up?”
He squinted at his watch through his bifocals. “About two hours ago. They’ll need it again around two in the morning. Dottie will be up to take care of that.”
Louis remembered the old woman, her hair cropped short and her saggy earlobes weighed down by heavy earrings. He left Slater and Peter alone to hash out the details, drawn to the doors of the padded cells.
He peered through the window in the door.
Whoever was on the other side looked to be asleep. He was wearing the same blue paper-like clothes he’d worn when he’d been held here. He was curled up on the narrow bed, the blanket kicked to the bottom of the bed next to his bare feet.
“That one,” Peter said as he came up next to him, “can imitate any sound.”
That one, like they weren’t people. Like he and Slater weren’t people. It was like they were objects, animals, inhuman.
It was sickening.
Louis moved to the next door and looked inside. Just like the room before, this cell’s occupant was sprawled out on the narrow mattress, mouth open as he slept.
“He can make it windy as hell. I thought he was going to cause a twister when we brought him in. He was hiding in the middle of Tornado Alley, that smartass.”
Louis stopped in front of the third door. He was surprised to see that the cell’s occupant wasn’t asleep.
A woman was sitting up on the bed, her hair a matted and tangled mess. She had scratches down her cheeks, like she’d clawed herself in the face. She rocked back and forth on the bed, her mouth moving as she muttered something too quietly for him to hear. She looked like she had missed a turn on the road to sanity.
“What about her?”
At the sound of his voice, she snapped her gaze to him. Her face lit up, her eyes were feral, and a smile stretched slowly across her face.
Louis’s eyes widened.
It wasn’t a smile he’d anticipated to see from someone so thin and frail. It was the smile of a killer, a predator that had tasted blood and was looking to sink her teeth into another kill. Her teeth weren’t normal. Each tooth ended in a savage point. They were completely inhuman.
“Oh, that one.” Once again, he said it the way a teacher talked about a naughty school child. It was the same way his father had talked about a particular member of his congregation after he’d been arrested for theft. “Keep that bitch drugged. She took half of Deuce’s hand off with those fucking chompers and she’ll take yours off too if she doesn’t get dosed up with Quench every few hours. It’s like she’s part shark or something. I mean, look at her teeth!”
Louis could see them, alright, and the thought of them biting into his flesh left him feeling uneasy.
“Dottie is stupid enough to get close to her?” Slater asked from behind Louis. He was close enough that his breath ghosted across the back of Louis’s neck as he spoke.
“Stupid or brave. I haven’t decided which.” Peter stepped away from the window and grabbed his jacket. “Well,” he said as he tugged it on behind the U-shaped desk in the middle of the wing, “it’s been fun, boys. I’m going home to get some sleep.”
Louis filed all of this information away for later. He wasn’t ready to make his move against Rick yet, but when he was, this place was a good start if he wanted to make it hurt. He wanted to get his hands on Quench. It seemed as though without the drug to suppress the superhuman abilities of his “assets”, he would have no way of holding them.
With the scent of Slater’s leather jacket in his nose and the tickle of his breath on the back of his neck, he was hyper aware of the other man’s silence. “What’s your problem?”
Slater replied with silence. He plopped himself in the chair Peter’s windbreaker had previously been occupying.
Louis perched on the dusty countertop a few feet away. He kept one eye on the entrance to the wing with in eyesight and didn’t take his attention away from the four cell doors for long. The very thought of the ferocious woman getting loose and ripping out his throat with her shark teeth was enough to make him want another cigarette.
He was used to his silent companionship with Slater, who seemed content playing a game on his cell phone to occupy his time. However, there was only so much silence Louis could tolerate while he waited for something—or nothing—to happen. “What are your side-effects like?” He asked. “I know what they are, but what is it like experiencing them? I mean, you know how I feel every time I use my gift. You’ve experienced it. What about you?”
Slater’s fingers stopped tapping the screen of his phone. He sat back, seeming to contemplate whether or not he wanted to answer. He paused for so long that Louis thought he wasn’t going to reply until he said, “It’s like popping a zit.”
He scrunched up his face. That was a gross description. He supposed, Slater’s powers could be equally disgusting if he chose to just blow someone to pieces instead of keeping it contained inside of their skull.
“When I want to use my powers I feel an insane build up of emotions—anger, mostly—and there’s a rush. Then, after I use them there’s just...nothing. It’s satisfying like popping a zit or lancing a blister. Get it?”
It was a gross visual, but it made sense. “Do you genuinely not feel anything at all? You can still use your powers after you’re experiencing the side-effects.”
“I feel things, but they’re dull. It’s like the memory of a wound. The wound doesn’t actively hurt anymore, it’s no longer there, but if I try hard enough I can feel a flicker of something. That is, if I care enough to try.”
From the sound of it, Slater’s powers were emotionally draining because it took so much emotion for him to be able to use them. It wasn’t that he became apathetic, because he still had feelings. It was more like he’d used the majority of his emotional energy trying to feel things after such a powerful wave of emotion that his emotional “battery” needed time to recharge.
Louis were impressed that Slater was opening up enough to talk to him about his powers. He decided to push his luck a little further. “How did you learn that you had abilities?”
“Like most people do, by accident. What about you?”
“I had a panic attack,” he had admitted with a soft laugh. It seemed silly now, but it certainly hadn’t been funny when the bombs had been raining down on him and the earth had been shaking apart. “During the war,” he added, “we were under attack. I thought I was going to be buried alive.”
“Such a shame,” he teased dryly. He opened a few drawers next to his leg and produced a deck of cards. “Care to play a few hands?”
Louis slid from the countertop to sit in an empty chair. “We might as well. We’re going to be here all night.”

The Theme of Free Will in Yandere Simulator
So in the past, I’ve speculated at length about what some broad story points might be for Yandere Simulator and while I’ve revised my opinion on the significance of a character like Fun Girl (her statement of “YOU BELIEVE EVERYTHING I SAY. I WONDER WHAT ELSE I CAN TRICK YOU INTO BELIEVING?” feels a bit embarrassing in hindsight) I do think there are broad strokes that can be taken from what I wrote and applied to newer story points that’ve been shared with us since. You can consider everything below a refinement of those original ideas, I suppose. Let’s start by going back and revisiting Saikou Corp. Note: some of this information doesn’t have a specific source other than vague recollections aside from what YandereDev has said on Twitter, Reddit, etc. so apologies in advance.
Tumblr media
What, exactly, do we know about Saisho Saikou? If we’re taking Fun Girl less as an actual plot point herself and more as a vehicle to deliver exposition to the audience then we can summarize a fair few things:
He was drafted into the service of the Imperial Japanese Army at age 17 in the closing days of the war. This retroactively confirms his date of birth was some time in 1928, meaning Saisho is 91 in 2019.
Saisho was confined to kitchen duty after being transferred to Okinawa at first. This changed after a bomb tore his dorm apart and he was trapped with the corpses of his friends for hours until he was rescued by other troops. During the attempted retreat after their rescue operation he called them cowards for wanting to fall back in the face of American forces. The memories of being stuck there with his dead friends still haunts him.
After being moved to a bunker, he was under constant stress from air raids and a chronic lack of sleep as well as malnourishment. When the U.S. finally found their hiding spot he tried to pull a pin on a grenade but it failed to detonate; he was promptly captured afterwards.
- From the June 1, 2018 Fun Girl text files We know little of his life after the war at the moment other than in 1946 he was reduced to running the company that would become Saikou Corporation out of his family’s garage (much like the company it parodies, Sony, was forced to do at first in our world by its creators). Given his later characterization I suspect that he probably ruthlessly took advantage of the breaking of up so many of the zaibatsu (large financial or industrial conglomerates owned by specific families; Mitsubishi is an example) by the American occupying forces following the war. In the decades following his country’s defeat Saisho created an enormous megacorporation that makes most of the consumer products seen in Yandere Simulator’s universe. As Headmaster Shuyona later relates to us, once he puts his mind to something he never takes no for an answer. Aside from the obvious wealth aspect that it grants him, though, what else is at work in his mind?
Like so many others, the defeat of Japan in the war simply unimaginable to him and, as far as he’s concerned, even if everyone else surrendered he never did.
The brainwashing and propaganda of the early Showa period never left him; as more and more Western influence began to creep into Japan, the more he began to freak out about it. Progressive politics and democracy are things he utterly despises.
Unsurprisingly, his reactionary politics have a racial component to them. For Saisho, the only people fit to rule the world are the Japanese and that if only everyone else realized it, there’d be a worldwide utopia. Though not outright confirmed, this also goes some way to explaining the almost eugenics-like obsession with ‘purity’ in the modern Saikou clan.
Even so, probably through careful PR stunts and knowing when to keep his mouth shut, Saisho’s worst beliefs aren’t known to the public.
- From the December 1, 2018 build’s Fun Girl files
It’s with some surprise then we know for a fact that Saisho wanted his firstborn daughter to inherit the company after he was ready to retire and only kept his son, Megami’s dad, as a backup. Despite the grueling and inhuman training that each Saikou generation seems to be put through, it seems that Saisho did genuinely love his daughter based on what Headmaster Shuyona confirms in Headmaster’s Tape #1. While this seems incongruous at first with his far right politics I think it’s helpful to see it less as a belief in equality between men and women, but instead that since she was a Saikou, she was inherently a cut above others because of that. Not many fathers would have schools built for their children in their honor if something wasn’t genuine, I think.
Tumblr media
Megami’s aunt is a very interesting character at the moment. We know nothing about her other than the fact that she was first in line for the proverbial throne and hasn’t spoken to Saisho in 30 years because of him disowning her after they got into an argument. Fun Girl seems to hint that the conversation revolved around her trying to remember a supposed sister of hers (i.e., her) but this might just be her trolling us all. I think there’s something else very important given that time frame we also need to keep in mind: the date. What’s 30 minus 2019? 1989.
Tumblr media
If we assume for a moment that Akademi opening its doors in 1985 was her first year, then following traditional Japanese high school length, it stands to reason her graduation occurred in 1988. The following year, Ryoba’s murder of the girl who was almost certainly Headmaster Shuyona’s daughter must’ve sent serious shock waves through Buraza Town. Megami’s aunt would’ve probably followed the proceedings with a lot of interest and I think a reason she parted ways with Saisho is because Saikou almost certainly tipped the scales in favor of Ryoba during her trial against the journalist. Why? Because of the country’s insanely high conviction rate. It’s greater than 99%. You’d practically need a miracle to get through it all and make the person who tried to take you to court look like a monster for doing so - something we know she pulled off. It’s not something that she could’ve done on her own without money changing hands or judges being properly blackmailed and flipping the media circus around. Headmaster’s Tape #6 also confirms that by 1999 Ryoba had seemingly regular contact with Saisho and Megami’s dad but it’s easy to extrapolate that they must’ve been speaking with one another prior to then; after all, just because Shuyona didn’t know about it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen (it doesn’t help him either that Saisho almost certainly sees him as a useful idiot). Learning a dark secret like this about your own family, coupled with the hell they put you through growing up, would break anyone and I think it’s a good explanation of why she left. If we accept that Saikou Corporation are Ryoba’s and Mr. Aishi’s employers then several things fall into place - why they haven’t ever had to move, why they live in a well off neighborhood, how they can simply up and leave for 10 weeks at a time to a foreign country - and the picture comes into focus. One of the things that Fun Girl seems to confirm is that Saisho’s love for Japan is equally as strong as what Ayano feels for Senpai. Knowing what we know about how the Aishi family curse seems to work, that’s pretty bone chilling. Coupled with every other horrible thing he thinks, combined with his vast wealth and influence, and it’s a recipe for disaster. The question becomes, however, what the point of all of this is. What could a murderous young woman possibly offer one of the most powerful companies in the world? Her body and mind. Stick with me here. Pretend you’re a scientist working for Saikou Corporation and you’re tasked with finding out what makes Ryoba tick; we’ll ignore for the moment any possible supernatural angle that the story might develop to explain their condition. The Aishi ‘curse’ seems to be a psychological condition, effecting the maternal line, that results in its carriers possessing severely stunted emotional growth, antisocial personality traits, flat affects, monotone voices, etc. This begins to alter in the host, however, an intermittent time after puberty in their late teens when, through various circumstances, meeting an individual causes an unknown psychological trigger to occur, acting as a kind of drug that for a time rewires the brain to enter a euphoria-like state wherein they begin to function on a neurotypical level, but only in contact with the source of this change (19 being the median age when an Aishi woman typically marries their victim). What if you could isolate the factors that cause such a thing to occur? 30 years is a long time to study something, after all, and decades’ worth of research must’ve meant some kind of breakthrough. Assuming that Saikou Corporation is like any other megacorporation in fiction then they’re sure to have their hands in medical technology. Imagine taking the research you’ve done on a so-called ‘yandere’ and began to try recreating it. After all, the idea of being able to use certain external symbols or things as stimuli is practically dystopian in its usefulness. Like, say, introducing a corporate symbol and ensuring its customers only felt a sense of satisfaction when buying a certain product.
Tumblr media
Let’s go further than that. What if you could engender the same feelings of emptiness, followed by unbridled joy, when looking at something as simple as a flag? Not only could you brainwash an entire nation, but any other place on earth that allows the services you provide as a global company...
Tumblr media
From this perspective, the “why?” of Saikou Corporation involving themselves with Ryoba becomes evident. After coming to this piece of speculation, if it is the case, something else also really clicked for me. Two things, actually. The first is that it’d give new meaning to the speech Megami tells you on the Skype chat you can have with her at school:
Is someone there?...Ah! It's you...Why have you come here? Have you come here to taunt me? Do you even know who I am? I know who you are. I know WHAT you are. My father won't allow me to attend school while you are..."active". He has a reason for tolerating your presence at this school. I don't. You are a vulgar creature that is only allowed to exist because you serve a purpose. If it was my decision, then every last one of you would be exterminated. Have fun while you can. If you and I ever cross paths...you're going to have a bad time.
The purpose is to further Saikou Corporation’s knowledge of the yandere condition and to find further ways to exploit it. Megami’s dad is in on this scheme and has purposefully kept Megami off campus while Ayano is on her murder spree as a way to keep her safe. What’s more, Ayano isn’t the only yandere that’s active either. Such a statement is more revealing than you might imagine it to be too. I think it’s pretty accepted at this point that the journalist’s wife was a yandere herself. He tells us as much in Mysterious Tape #6
But as soon as we met, she wanted to spend every waking moment with me. She wouldn't let me out of her sight, and got possessive if another woman so much as looked at me.
I quickly began to depend on her for everything. It wasn't long before I couldn't live without her. I certainly wasn't in any state to take care of myself... I was like an adult-sized baby. Helpless and vulnerable. Who knows...maybe that's what she was attracted to. Maybe she just wanted to experience the sensation of owning a person. Maybe she wanted to keep a human pet.
Isn’t it odd how she showed up in his life only a year after his ordeal with Ryoba in court? How his marriage to her didn’t involve them leaving the town at all? If I were him, I would’ve probably left it behind a long time ago, especially if it brought up memories as traumatic as what he’d experienced (and the fact he was directly threatened by Ryoba too). But instead his marriage and alcoholism caused him to never get out until it was too late. The timing seems... convenient, doesn’t it? Almost as if it were planned.
It wouldn’t be hard, I think, to sic some girl afflicted with the condition on someone either in hopes they’d ‘imprint’ on them or alternatively try to induce that very same response in them somehow. It’s a safe bet, again, considering how long Saikou Corp. would’ve had to pour over the data they’d collected. There surely would’ve been theories on how it happened and they’d be unethical enough to try it on human test subjects. So if they could do that, who might it happen to?
Tumblr media
I think that an overarching narrative theme in-game is going to be that of free will. Let’s consider for a moment both Megami and Ayano as parallels to one another. Both are incredibly driven women who will stop at nothing to get what they desire - order for Megami, Senpai for Ayano - with familial histories of treachery and abuse. If Megami’s life has been lain down before her without her having much say in the matter, how does this similar struggle reflect in Ayano? Arguably, Megami could have everything she ever materially wanted in life just as Ayano has in the form of the feelings Senpai gives her but the issue goes deeper. If the price for Megami was having every moment planned out for her, is it not possible that the feelings Ayano has are just as manufactured? I don’t mean that in the ‘love at first sight’ kind of way; I’m questioning if the meeting with Senpai was something that was set up for her to go through, a test to see if this poor schmuck could be the thing that would let them begin to move onto a new test subject to put them through their glorified obstacle course (Akademi). Not to mention the fact that it essentially occurs right after Ryoba and Mr. Aishi leave for America is an immediate red flag. If Megami is trying to stop Ayano, though, then it must mean that she’s rebelling against the wishes of Saikou Corporation itself. After all, they don’t want something that they’ve put years of investment into slipping through the fingers if they can help it. The end game she has in mind is anyone’s guess at this point but I suspect it will be the purge of anything related to the above secret project. As such, there’s going to have to be someone to offer us an alternative to bringing down the current iteration of Saikou - and I think we also have an inkling of who’s going to aid us in bringing her down.
Tumblr media
Kencho is emblematic of the status quo. He desperately desires his father’s approval (the one who’s likely continuing his father’s wishes and pursuing this whole endeavor to begin with) and will do anything to gain it. If Megami steps out of line too much, he’s certain to know that means she’ll fall from grace. He’s only been prevented from doing anything about his current situation because he’s only second best and hurting Megami would upset his dad. However, if she were to have an unfortunate accident... well, it isn’t as if he could be ignored anymore. In exchange, I imagine he’ll give Ayano exactly what her mother had: a nice house, a life untouched by anyone who’d take Taro or Taeko away from her, and a way for the two of them to have children if you go the latter route. All Ayano has to do is just give in to being a pawn like her mother did, like Kencho did, and like his father did. Or she can, at last, have the first real choice she’s ever had in her life by siding with Megami and tearing it all down (with Senpai still the promised reward in exchange for her help, certainly...).

Unconventional headcanon: Kabuto is a grown up Shin
Tumblr media
Let me prove it to you!
Shin coughing up blood all the time and yet still being allowed to be an ANBU ROOT shinobi? Shin mysteriously ~dying~ at the most convenient moment for maximum Sai angst?! Not a coincidence in MY shinobi world!!
A while back I postulated a headcanon that stated that Sai was a baby Uchiha that survived the massacre, and Danzo immediately stole him for ROOT, thinking of how convenient it would be to have a fully loyal Sharingan-user under his beck and call.
But ROOT’s “you will feel absolutely nothing” method of brainwashing directly opposes the development of the Sharingan, a kekkei genkai that requires deep and genuine emotional suffering. So, after several years go by and Sai continues to be a wholly average ROOT unit, dull-eyed and sharingan-less, Danzo decides to contact Orochimaru for help.
How does one develop the Sharingan by force? Danzo grudgingly asks his field agent Orochimaru, the master of kekkei genkai, the one man who managed to recreate the supposedly extinct Wooden Style from a boy not even of Senju blood.
Orochimaru smiles and it’s much like walking into a den of snakes. What will you give me for the price of two Sharingan, rarer now than ever before?
Danzo grits his teeth and pays a steep price: a lock of white hair from his beloved and long dead sensei, Senju Tobirama. The next day, Orochimaru brings in a dull-eyed boy with white hair.
Who is this? Danzo asks. For half a horrified second Danzo wonders if Orochimaru has brought his sensei back to life. But no, this will come later.
I have no name unless you will it so, Danzo-sama, says the boy with white hair and dull eyes. He places his hand on his chest respectfully; the hand glows briefly green, and the boy gives a horrific, hacking cough, and splits out bright red phlegm at Danzo’s feet.
You bring me one of your defective experiments? Danzo asks, disgusted.
He’s his own experiment, Orochimaru laughs. And he will die to bring you the Sharingan.
Danzo takes a closer look at the boy. He thinks he understands what Orochimaru means, now. Long ago, Kagami’s sharingan had first flared red when Kagami had thought Danzo dead. It’ll be akin to the Mist’s graduation ceremony, a method Danzo had secretly admired in his youth and as an adult discarded for it’s wastefulness. Mindlessly culling his own soldiers after investing resources to shape them was neither gratifying nor productive. But in this case, the friend-killing method had merit: after all, an Uchiha’s bonds must be brutally severed in order to reach their full potential.
Very well, Danzo agrees. From today until your mission is complete, you will be known as Shin.
Codename Shin gives a dull-eyed smile.
And so Shin is allowed to so openly befriend Sai, to give him gifts and encourage brotherly emotion, something Danzo would have surely snuffed out in any other context. All the while Shin is very conveniently suffering from a mysterious illness that causes him to hack blood, until the dies SUPER FUCKING CONVENIENTLY just at the right time for Sai to not have to kill him. Even I can’t believe in coincidences that far-reaching. A genius medic nin like Kabuto could pull it off, though. Wouldn’t it be all the more plausible, and all the more devastating, if behind Sai’s raison d'etre was Kabuto’s lies all along?!?
Aaaah. I love this pain.
It also makes Shin waaaaayy more interesting, because let’s be real, he was a fridged woman trope in boy form: created and killed solely for Sai’s wangst. Boringg.
A part of me wants to explore this possibility in that other story I have rotating in my head, focusing on those left unmoored by ROOT and Orochimaru’s carelessly cruel actions even years later: the quiet melancholy of a Kinoe/Tenzo/Yamato whose post-manga mission appears to be to forever shadow the man who left him to rot, a still-experimenting Orochimaru who has somehow been forgiven by Konoha; the quiet distress of a Sai who marries Ino and tries to learn how to live and love genuinely despite still feeling a profound and confused emptiness; the quiet insanity of a Kabuto who has been so many faces and so many people that he transformed himself into something inhuman to seek the affection of the one man who cannot feel it, and later tries to find his humanity through an orphanage and healing; and the quiet and perverse smugness Orochimaru himself, who continues to casually create and discard blank-faced boys as if none of them will ever come back to kill him one day...or is his real motivation a profoundly narcissistic self destruction?
Maybe someday :3 But yeah. Kabuto as a grown up Shin!! I’d be fascinated to see Sai realize Kabuto was his old best friend all along. Did Kabuto fully fake it? Or was there something genuine laid bare there, even if only for a little while. Will Sai’s memory of a boy he loved be enough to motivate him to help the twisted funhouse mirror that is the grown up, fucked up Kabuto? And what of Yamato, who is older than them both, who was fully created inside that deep darkness and yet clawed his way to the light and managed to grow up into a “normal” adult? Can he find the strength to help teach them how to be better than their roots...
Who else can help and heal these broken ROOT remnants but each other? No one else knows what it is to go through something so fundamentally disabling, a developmental trauma so perverse, than someone who went through it just like you.

@shattered-catalyst asked me what underused female Marvel characters that I’d like to see in the RPC. I misread it as asking what underused female characters I would like to see in a canon Marvel story, and started making this list. Then I realized what they ACTUALLY asked me---and answered it HERE-- but since I had this list started I thought I would post it! As a note, I tried to overlook my own biases for whom *I* simply want to see back in action, versus if there’s actually story potential there that I think other fans would genuinely want to see. It’s also by no means complete/comprehensive, so if you think someone is missing and deserves to be on here---you’re probably right! Feel free to add to it! BLINDSPOT - Blindspot is a female member of Mystique’s Brotherhood who was friends with Rogue, and had the powers of memory manipulation. After several missions, Mystique decided to cut ties with her due to lack of trust. Blindspot left, but not without wiping herself out of Mystique and Rogue's memories first, as she always covered her tracks, which is why Rogue doesn’t remember her (actual reason is she was retconned in, she’s a 2000s creation) Years later, when Rogue had become an X-Men, they would come into conflict once more, as Blindspot wanted to ‘save” Rogue from Xavier’s “brainwashing”, but Rogue would still leave Blindspot with her X-uniform to remember her by. Blindspot is unique in having been a Brotherhood friend to Rogue, as she was never shown as close to any of the other members, and was also mysteriously immune to Rogue’s powers. I think Rogue fans might enjoy seeing her in a Rogue story again, and perhaps learning more about their time together. CATSEYE - I think ALL the Hellions were criminally underused, and I know from X-Men/comics discussion boards that there’s an audience for their return. Catseye seems to be the favorite in terms of who people found most interesting, and I agree. A girl who believes she’s a cat who can turn into a human form, rather than the reverse, is a really neat concept, not to mention Sharon had a charming personality with surprising depth for what little time she got. There’s a lot that could be done with her return, and I think she could totally be the lead in a revived Hellions story on Krakoa, or a story depicting their time as Frost’s students at the Massachusetts Academy. CORDELIA FROST - Look, everyone loves Emma Frost, I think it’d be easy to get people interested in a Cordelia story. Not to mention the fact that like...Adrienne is dead, Christian was institutionalized, but Cordelia has been running around this whole time. She seems to have had some big plans once upon a time, what happened to that? Nothing ever came of it. Why not? What’s she been up to all this time? Also, we should finally get to see what kind of powers she has! I’ve seen it quoted around the Internet that Emma claims Cordy is “the Professor Xavier of empaths” but I’ve not only never seen the source for where she says this, she’s never demonstrated ANY kind of powers in canon, besides Emma not being able to read her mind. I would like to see what the “subtle, dark, and devious” Frost baby gets up to! DARKSTAR - Darkstar is a mutant and she’s been present in the comics since 1976. She’s been a member of X-Corps, as well as served in the Champions with Angel and Iceman back in the day. Yet her loyalty (coughBRAINWASHINGcough) has always brought her back to serving Mother Russia first and foremost. We saw recently though that Russia has gone back to its “All mutants serve the State or die!” position, and not allowing its mutants to go to Krakoa. It’s pretty easy to work Darkstar into a story about that, and finally exploring the way she was deeply conditioned to the point her “choice” to serve her country is probably anything but, and coming to terms with that at last. I’d really like to see a story like this, because Darkstar is kind of unique in that her brainwashing wasn’t a dramatic trauma-conga full of torture and abuse, she actually seems to have been treated well, she was just also kidnapped as a baby and never knew anything else. I think it’s about time we get a story that shows abuse doesn’t always “look like abuse” and how denial of someone’s agency can run so deep that their own choices that they THINK they’re making of their own free will, really are products of that. Also, her story could be an easy way to get my STARLIGHT fix, and FANTASMA on top of that. Remember, Fantasma was banished to Limbo, and pulled Starlight in after her. Why WOULDN’T Darkstar want to go rescue her teammate? And there’s a member of the X-Men who is mistress of Limbo and can open portals there, it’s totally easy! Darkstar enlists Magik (who has a huge fan following, and thus would get people interested) to guide her through Limbo so they can find Starlight and bring her home, but on the way they run afoul of Fantasma! Who, being a Dire Wraith sorceress, makes a great foe for Magik! PHANTAZIA - During 1990s, Toad struck out on his own and formed his own Brotherhood, which consisted of several old faces---Pyro, Blob, and Sauron (despite Sauron not being a mutant)---and a new one, the woman known as Phantazia, aka Eileen Harsaw. Phantazia had the power to manipulate electromagnetic energy fields. This allowed her to fly, disrupt machinery, and  disrupt the bioelectric energy fields and nervous systems of other living beings as well, resulting in pain, paralysis, loss of physical coordination, and in the case of superhumans, the inability to control their powers, causing them to fluctuate in strength, cease functioning altogether, or spew out uncontrollably. Not much is known about her personality, but she seems to have been well-educated, as Blob refers to her as “Ms. PhD” and tended to stay out of the arguments between her male teammates, ignoring them while she read books on scientific subjects, such as astrophysics. . She also displayed loyalty, such as when she also opted to stay with her teammates when only she among them was invited to Magneto’s new mutant sanctuary of Avalon. Alas, Eileen met a wicked fate---for some reason, she was one of the few mutants to retain their memories of the “House of M” reality shift, and the shifting back and forth drove her insane. She was last seen in a S.H.I.E.L.D. custody cell, babbling “House of M” over and over. I think Eileen was interesting. She had a cool powerset, hints of a personality, and was never much of a “bad guy” certainly not enough to deserve what happened to her. Female Brotherhood members are also pretty rare, so she catches my eye for that too. I like to think Xavier found her and fixed her mind, and she’s going to hang out with her old pals Pyro, Blob, and Toad on Krakoa. HAVEN - I’ve been yelling about her on this blog for like 5 years, but if you’re not familiar with her, Radha Dastoor aka Haven was a villain who ran a cult dedicated to bringing about the end of the world as we know it in order to usher in a golden age of peace. She only did this, however, because she was being possessed by a demon. Her real self was a kind, charitable woman who was just all about feeding the hungry, caring for the sick, and, as it happens, advocating for mutants. Though it had little to do with her villainy, Haven still found time to be a demon-posessed super-terrorist AND write books promoting mutant/human peace and give lectures condemning bigotry. She seems like someone who SHOULD have gotten saved from said demon, but no, she dies alone in the mud after being victim-blamed by a Marvel deity. Her entire arc is really misogynistic, she’s only possessed because she had sex once and then got pregnant, she’s basically punished for breaking the purity taboos of her culture once, and it’s also pretty...racist isn’t the right word, but she’s the first Indian and Hindu character in the X-Men comics, and a lot of her terrorist philosophy fed to her by the demon comes from actual Hinduism, which has unfortunate implications, as does the fact that the “brown woman with a funny religion ended up being a terrorist just like the government said so X-Factor attacking her before they were sure of this is okay” was part of her story. Eesh. Anyway, she was a very good person and an interesting character, I think bringing her back as someone trying to do good in the world again as a human ally to mutants while also dealing with what happened to her and what she did and her loss of 20 years of agency to possession, would be a good story. I at least want to see a cameo of her taking care of a bunch of orphan and refugee kids who are a mix of mutants, Inhumans, Warpies, aliens, and humans. LORELEI - Lorelei is another little-known woman from the Brotherhood of Mutants, and unique in that she’s NOT a mutant. At one point, Magneto used a machine to mutate members of the native tribes in the Savage Land, giving them super-powers. These Savage Land Mutates served him in their homeland, fighting the X-Men at his command, but he left them behind when he returned back to the rest of the world...all save Lorelei, who he took with him for his new Brotherhood, citing a possible “Pygmalion complex” for why. Lorelei was a beautiful blonde woman who could control men with her voice. However, she seems to have a childlike intellect, as she speaks very simply and in the third person, and doesn’t really seem aware of what she’s doing or why she’s being told by Magneto to do it. It’s a really worrying dynamic, and I also worry about Lorelei once Magneto just...kinda ditched her, I guess, and left her with Unus, Blob, and the Vanisher. Then she turns up back in the Savage Land serving yet another bad guy. Lorelei--or Lani Ubanu, as seems to be her name before Magneto transformed her--comes off as an unaware innocent that just gets constantly picked up and used by greater villains because she doesn’t know any better, and given that this is because of the powers Magneto gave her, I’d like to see that come back and have him take responsibility for her. And if she’s NOT as unaware and innocent as she seems, I’d like to see that, because she’s been around since 1969 and she doesn’t have a personality and she barely speaks! Flesh this girl out! MADELYNE PRYOR - I feel like this one is cheating a bit, because I’m not sure I’d say Maddy is under-used. She’s seen more action just this decade than all the others on this list saw in their entire careers COMBINED. It’s more than she’s just...not used well, in my opinion. 2000s writers generally seem to forget that her stint as the Goblyn Queen came from being infected by demonic energy and also insane (for VERY understandable reasons), and seem to think she’s just evil on her own. Not to mention they take all the depth out of her; she’s a character with a full personality of her own and some very fucked up struggles that she was not to blame for, but that all gets boiled down to “Scott’s sexy evil ex who is mad he left her so now she trounces around in skimpy clothes she never actually wore when she wasn’t possessed because EVIL LADIES ARE SEXY CUZ FEMALE SEXUALITY IS EVIL” and it’s just....u g h. When Maddy was herself, she actually was very heroic, to the point she sacrificed her life to save the world (her FIRST death, which everyone forgets). But she also has good reason to be really angry and bitter at the X-Men, and I don’t see her letting go of that even when she’s back in her right mind. So I think depicting her as an anti-hero, who saves innocent people yet works against the X-Men, would be a neat story, with the ultimate conclusion being her letting go of her grudge, not for THEIR sake but for HERS, to not have her be tethered to them any longer, not even by hate, and finally live a life that is HERS. MISS SINISTER - So, Miss Sinister is NOT Nathaniel Essex in a lady suit. She’s actually an entirely different person, and actually has a very sympathetic situation. She’s a woman named Claudine Renko, whom Mr. Sinister injected with a virus containing his own DNA. The idea was that in the event of his death, the virus would activate in her or one of his other test subjects, transforming them into Sinister complete with his consciousness replacing their own. But when it activated in Claudine after Sinister’s apparent (but in fact only temporary) death in the “Messiah Complex” story, Claudine did not become possessed by Mr. Sinister nor become him---not exactly. She became essentially a female clone of him, gaining aspects of his appearance (such as the chalk white skin) as well as his telepathic powers. He might also be how she got her wicked personality, but since we don’t know anything about her prior to this, that could just be how she was already. But she also suffered invasive memories of Essex's life, and that as a malignant presence within her mind, he was slowly killing her as a means of self-resurrection. He even managed to manifest briefly before being re-absorbed back into her. It was for this reason that she wanted to switch bodies with X-23, thus gaining Laura's healing factor, something she had wanted after her stabbing, and thereby freeing herself of Essex. The plan backfired when Essex took control of Laura's body and used her to mortally wound Claudine. Laura managed to overcome Essex's presence in her mind, expelling it through force of will. She was next seen working with Emma Frost on using The Mothervine, though Emma ended up turning on her. I remember feeling bad for Claudine when I read her story with X-23. Having someone else trying to take over your body is a pretty good motive for doing something as evil as trying to steal someone else’s, while also being inexcusable to do. It’s unlikely she was a willing subject for Sinister, so she probably isn’t to blame for what happened to her, but is to blame for her actions after, which is the kind of villain I like. Also, while she’s usually in lingerie ala a Black Queen of the Hellfire Club, she wore a really cute little normal outfit in a story with Sebastian Shaw and Daken...which ironically is when she actually was Black Queen! I’d like to see more of Claudine, and find out more about her story and who she was before all this, and whether or not she’s REALLY free of Sinister, as she seems to be now. After all...is anyone ever free of him? Bonus if she teams up with Madelyne Pryor! NOCTURNE - No not TJ Wagner, THIS LADY! I don’t think anyone (except me) is hoping for her return, as I don’t think anyone else really knows about her, but Spider-Man stuff is still popular so there’s no reason she couldn’t come back and have a prominent role in that. I really hope they go with the interpretation that she’s gay, since now is a time that they can actually have that open instead of coded, but more than just the representation of a gay WOC (which is awesome) I really am interested in her adjustment and journey into her new identity, and in particular her communication via empathy powers rather than speech. That really intrigues me about her. I think she could become very compelling and popular if brought back and handled well, perhaps in a story that brings back other neglected characters in the Spider franchise as well. SAT-YR-9 - Okay, so in the Captain Britain/Excalibur comics of the 80s, there was a woman named Courtney Ross. She was a banker and Captain Britain’s ex, and she became a side character, having adventures with the team and even besting none other than ARCADE through STAND UP COMEDY. Then one night, a version of her from another universe emerged in apartment, killed her, and took her place. This evil counterpart was Sat-Yr-9, who had been a cruel dictator in homeworld, and has been running around doing evil in 616 since while masquerading as Courtney. Captain Britain discovered the ruse and vowed revenge...but has yet to really do anything, probably because Sat-Yr-9 herself really hasn’t done anything since either. She popped up for a brief moment in the 2000s as the new White Queen of the Hellfire Club, but that’s it. I would like to see more of her, in that role or outside it. Given her connection to both the Hellfire Club and to Kitty (whom she was grooming under the guise of “Courtney Ross” and seemed to have big plans for, as well as some mysterious connection to that was never explained) I think she’d be great for the Marauders series. Or in the new “Excalibur” series that stars Psylocke as the new Captain Britain! I also think there would be interest in a story that finally resolves her murder of Courtney and shows Brian finally at least TRYING to make her pay, I still see it talked about on Marvel boards how unsatisfying and frustrating it is that Brian vowed revenge DECADES ago and has yet to do anything about it, and how much of a waste that makes Courtney’s death (Courtney was surprisingly popular with fans even to this day due to how she handled Arcade, it instantly endeared them to her...and then that’s RIGHT when she got killed off, literally the evening after) Maybe Betsy is the one who finally gets her at last! THRENODY - I think that Threnody’s coming back in the recent Deadpool series revived enough interest to justify bring her back yet again, and I think her baby being killed, however monstrous it was, means that fans are probably ready to see her get a happy ending for once. I know I sure am. ZALADANE - Zaladane was a personal villain to Polaris, and given that Polaris has never really had a book that was about her (as far as I know, I’m far from a Lorna expert) I think bringing her back as the bad guy for a Lorna solo series would be cool. I also would like it resolved if she’s Lorna’s sister or not. It seems to add up at the time it was written, but changes to Lorna’s backstory continuity since make it impossible. I think that a suitably comic-booky explanation could work for that, such as “she *is* Lorna’s sister but from another dimension, not 616, and also that explains how/why she’s in the Savage Land” or something like that. Plus it satisfies both the people who think she is and who think she isn’t.

Randomly thinking about a yokai watch and lobotomy corporation crossover au because honestly both games have an equal mix of scary and silly monsters and the difference is just in the tone. I could easily imagine a lot of Yokai making sense as Abnormalities and some of them already kinda have minigames of doing weird overspecific stuff to keep youself safe from them. And thr whole Infinate Tunnel/Moody Mary questline is so effing surreal its like an Abnormality! Plus there's lots of Abnormalities that are sympathetic and itd be cool to reimagine a version of them that can be befriended and helped.
Tho i dunno, maybe this concept is just too similar to Shadowside? But also with like..un-shadowsiding the Abnormalities. A two way horror and cuteness swap~!
Random place to start: Dr Maddiman! As an abnormality he'd be similar to Nothing There, a mimic type. But instead of trying to mimic people on purpose to escape, he seems to genuibely believe he is an ordinary employee and has to get back to his very important science work. And in this au he'd probably look lots more terrifying and inhuman and such, so his delusion is very clearly false. Theres no chance of anyone actually falling for his mimicry, he never stops looking like a horrifying monstrosity squeezed into a labcoat no matter how much he begs for you to believe he's human.
Containment procedures for him involve validating his delusion so he doesnt attack you- treating him like a valued employee and pretending to involve him in important work even if you're just having him staple together blank papers all day. Whenever he breaches containment he just goes around doing paperwork like that and copying other stuff he sees humans doing. Or he latches onto an employee and annoys them by following them around and babbling cute anecdotes about his beloved wife and kids. Research has been able to track down the locations he describes as his childhood home and where he got married, but can find no proof that he was ever human or that his family ever existed.
Despite his sympathetic nature and good instentions, the doctor is still a very dangerous Abnormality. He's usually harmless when breaching and even protects employees from other abnormalities but his desire to protect others can be also his biggest danger. You cant under any circumstances let him know if you're sick or injured, his well-intentioned attempts to help often end in completely remodelling the human body into a more efficient form. Several abnormalities around the facility were once people who encountered this one and found their wishes answered in the worst of ways. The doctor speaks fondly of his past patients and seems convinced they must be much happier now. If he's ever placed close to their cell and they breach containment at the same time, the patient will ignore all humans and attack the doctor constantly. And the doctor usually stops attacking at all and just stares into space as he's torn apart. Every time his twisted body reforms and he finds he's been denied death again, he seems to quickly forget what happened as a form of coping mechanism.
He cant stand the thought of knowing he's been hurting people, and even when he briefly remembers sometimes he still cant stop himself from doing it. His chance of breaching increases the longer he goes without 'helping' someone, and a third eye opens on his forehead and dominates more and more of his face. His potential positive effects are the same as his negative ones, his 'helpful' surgery is a random roulette so sometimes it genuinely is helpful. No matter what youre gonna end up mutated, but if youre lucky you'll just be twisted up inside into a stronger faster creature and still look outwardly human. Effects can include simple level ups in skills, increased elememtal resistance, growing a random abnormality's E.G.O gift from your flesh, randomizing an appearance trait like face or hair colour, and various temporary buffs. A negative result will turn the employee into an -02 type abnormality of the same genus, a massive tumourous blob of multiple arms that seems to leak sunlight out of its eyes and mouth. The doctor expresses fondness towards these creatures and will seem to mistake them for the children he believes he once had, whispering gently that he missed them so much even as they try and take their revenge by tearing him limb from limb. Once placed into a separate containment unit (for the sake of the doctor's safety as much as the employees), these creatures will settle into a hibernating state and eventually emerge from their coccoon of terrifying limbs as a random Abnormality you havent already seen yet. Once the process is completed they seem to have no memory left of being human, and will replace their previous AI with that of the resulting Abnormality. If they meet the doctor in future breaches they seem to not recognise him, but he always calls them his child no matter how different they look. He seems to see their abandoned aggression as a sign that the surgery was successful and he saved them from the tragedy of being human. Energy output increases for the rest of the day due to happiness!
The rarest result of the random surgery is a small chance that the employee will seem otherwise unchanged but suddenly start seeing the doctor as their father figure. They'll know details about his false fantasy of a normal human life, even if he never told them. And their personality begins to change to that of once of the nonexistant children, remembering dear moments with their dad that really never existed. Aside from loss of self and being distracted from productive work, there are no dangerous effects from this. They will just perform better at work with the doctor and have a small chance of experiencing family actions at the end of each work session. Varying from tea parties to stereotypical 'its not a phase dad, punk rock is my life!' conversations. It seems the 'children' have very different personalities...? The possessed employee will receive a glowing heart on their chest (in various colours depending on the "child") and its possible to free them by shattering this heart, however theyre insanely protective of it. A possible theory is that the doctor was indeed a human once, and is merely the conduit for a cluster of otherworldly forces that he perceives as 'cute children', who are using him to help find new host bodies. The higher ups are currently considering passing a bill to allow sacrifices to see what happens if the possession is ever completed. (Doctor is very hsppy about this!! He loves his kids!!)

Devilman Crybaby: Series Reflection
I’m someone who genuinely believes in humanity’s capacity for good. I think in a world as manic and agonizing as the one we live in, it’s easy to throw up our hands and say “fuck it, everyone sucks”, but I’ve seen too much of the other side of that equation to buy it. Humanity just is inherently worth fighting for, and from that, everything else follows. It definitely informs how I write for this blog, if nothing else; you’ll note that the shows I truly despise over the course of watching them, such as Future Diary and Guilty Crown, are those that mindlessly regurgitate inhuman examples of cruelty and savagery with no grounding in reality, just to pretend that misery and torture porn is somehow more genuine than empathy and hope. That said, I am far from blind to humanity’s faults. I know we have the capacity to fuck things up royally if given half the chance. And any piece of media that can accurately capture that truth, that can genuinely depict the ways in which humanity fails itself without slipping into a grimdark trash fire, is sure to stick with me for a long time to come. So when I say that Devilman Crybaby’s portrait of humanity’s failure sunk its claws into me and refused to let go, know I mean that as the highest possible compliment I can afford.
Devilman Crybaby is one hell of a show. It’s ambitious, it’s audacious, it allows itself no room to slow down or chicken out, and it hits the gas from the starting pistol and never lets up. It’s an intense, nightmarish whirlwind of perverse imagery, crushing despair, sinister overtones, and gristly insanity. It goes to places few other anime even dare approach- explicit sex and nudity, legitimately grotesque action horror setpieces, a cavalier disregard for the sensibilities of the youngest in the audience- and hits them all with the force of a ten-gallon steel drum full of blood and viscera. And yet, for as brazenly chaotic as its presentation is, its narrative and thematic intentions are never anything less than remarkably focused. It’s like a black hole of storytelling construction, a vortex of incomprehensible and maddening proportions that funnels down to a single, concentrated point of complete synthesis. It’s chaotic and brutal and often unsettling, but always with a point and always towards it’s ultimate goal. And that goal is nothing more or less than putting humanity itself on trial, showcasing its light and darkness in equal measure, and allowing its audience to understand the entirely of its spectrum before leveling its judgement.
It’s in that understanding that Devilman Crybaby becomes a genuine masterpiece. Not because it wallows in the worst humanity is capable of, but because it weighs that darkness against all the light humanity has to offer regardless. It understands that only in the failure of Miki’s hope, of Akira’s empathy, of the world’s desperation to pull through, does its bleak narrative and intense imagery hold the power it does. Only against the tidal wave of Akira’s tears does the story’s darkness hold any sway, and it milks that darkness for all it’s worth. It’s a powerful, eviscerating depiction of humanity at its lowest only because it understands humanity at it’s highest as well, the rare tragedy that never feels the need to give up on hope in order to communicate the hopelessness of its inevitable conclusion. And as a result, the overwhelming intensity of its darkest, most uncomfortable moments all sticks with you long after the final ember has flickered out. This show didn’t make the splash it did for no reason, and any aspiring writer looking to tell tragic tales of their own should study the dizzying way it weaves light and shadow together.
If I had any criticism to offer at all, it would be that I could have used a couple more episodes. With so much uncompromising content packed into such a small space, it leaves you very little room to breathe. Which is certainly intentional, but with even just 25 more minutes to allow certain subplots, like Miko and Kado’s relationship, time to develop into more of their own thing than just thematic seasoning, I’m certain the entire affair would feel that much more complete. But that’s a nitpick against what is otherwise a devilishly good show. Devilman Crybaby is absolutely a modern masterpiece, and if you think your stomach’s strong enough, it’s absolutely worth a look. And I award it a score of:
9/10
And thus ends the densest ten episodes of my life. Thank you all for joining me, and I hope you stick around for the show that takes its place! And according to my random number generator, that show will be:
Scum’s Wish
Oh hey, I’ve actually watched half of this show before! Not that I remember much, so it should still be an interesting experience. See you next time!
