(Genuine question, I really want to learn more about the various viewpoints of this discussion)
Something I don't understand about this discussion is that it seems to be focused very much on the ability of a person's condition to recover, to go into remission, or to be treated.
But, at least the way I'm interpreting it, the way you discuss it (and others I've seen discuss it) seem to put physical disabilities under the "no treatment/recovery/remission" umbrella, and neurological and psychiatric conditions under the "able to receive treatment/recovery/remission" umbrella.
What I don't understand about this framing is that there are conditions under either of those umbrellas, it's not two completely separate group. So, I don't really understand why disabling arthritis that is able to be treated (with pain meds that work enough for the person to be able to move around) counts as a physical disability, and therefore part of cripplepunk, but psychomotor retardation in someone with a treatment-resistant mental illness ISNT seen as a symptom worthy of cripplepunk inclusion.
Or, like... if someone has a central-nervous-system injury that could go into remission with surgery, but that surgery isn't available to them because of money constraints, and their primary symptom is a lack of motor control and balance that means they are a wheelchair user, would their physical disability allow them to be accepted as part of the cripple punk movement? If yes, why, even though it could potentially be treated, while someone with psychiatric illnesses that make them have trouble moving wouldn't be, despite their symptoms not being treatable?
I guess what I'm asking is if you could maybe give me a bit of an explanation about why treatable physical conditions may be or may not be accepted as part of that movement, while untreatable neurological or psychiatric disabilities aren't.
My brain is a little messy right now, so I hope this makes sense, but if it doesn't please let me know what parts don't make sense so I can try to reword them.
Also, this question is directed towards eroticcannibal, but I encourage anyone to reply to my question, because I'd really appreciate some more insight into this discussion if it's not too much trouble.
I'm getting very tired of seeing u all reblog very reasonable *sounding* posts alluding to some cripple being ableist against mentally ill ppl when I can see the context and can see that that shit is getting VERY twisted
#i worry that im not getting my point across#its kinda like#okay why is someone who shuffles and stumbles around bc of brain stuff and is discriminated against and has a low qual of life excluded#but someone with a similar outward appearance who has like idk a CNS spinal whatever disorder is included?#also as someone who has had both psychomotor issues and executive dysfunction they both just. suck so much.#but the experience is a lil different for me#like being in bed bc of executive dysfunction and lack of energy is frustrating and upsetting#but so is having to sit in a chair for half an hour because im too paralysed for my legs and torso to move#but despite issues with joints and psychomotor issues and executive dysfunction issues i never considered myself physically disabled#which is why im asking for peoples opinions to better understand the discussion
