your caine art is so gorgeous!! kind of a silly question but what movie genres do you think the “gone” kids would watch?
Aa thank you so much!!! I'm so glad you like it
This is such a great question and is perfect timing as I've just got back from my film class. Here are my ideas:
Sam: I don't think Sam is really a movie person so, this is a bit of a cop-out, but I don't think there's any particular genre that he likes. He spends most of his time surfing. The only reason I'm willing to admit he has at least seen A film is because he took Anna to the cinema for their date. (Also the film was definitely Surf's Up, 2007. And no I will not take any criticism on this)
Astrid: Astrid is definitely one for documentaries. And this girl will watch documentaries on EVERYTHING (even open-heart surgery). She also has a secret soft spot for kids films as she watches them so much with Little Pete. She likes how easy everything is. There is a right and a wrong and its clear and obvious what it is. If you ask her though she'll never admit to it.
Quinn: Comedy. I love this boy but I just know he spends his evenings watching Adam Sandler films. That being said, he is open to a wide range of comedy including rom-coms and chick-flicks. He likes to dip into different genres, but really comedy is his thing.
Edilio: Edilio would mostly stick to Spanish-speaking films. Probably comforting family-friendly films that he can watch with his family. But I also think he would have an interest in old cartoons (think thundercats or trap door). They're easy to watch, family-friendly and can be useful for learning English. (I know that Trap Door is an English cartoon but shhhh I'm projecting)
Little Pete: Little Pete doesn't really watch the films that Astrid puts on for him. I think he just likes the experience. Being near her without her talking to him or touching him. He can experience the safety he feels around her without the sensory issues that can sometimes come with it. That being said, I think he would prefer the cartoons with muted colour schemes and softer soundtracks. Maybe Tim Burton?? As opposed to the more colourful Disney films she puts on.
Caine: Did somebody say crime films?? The Wolf of Wall Street, The Godfather, Nightcrawler. He likes to imagine himself as the leading man and he genuinely believes that he could do it better than the actual character. He also watched The Great Gatsby once and thought it was a good romance.
Drake: I think it's mentioned that one of Drake's favourite films is Saw ll?? And I definitely think he'd be into horror, but he would have no respect for the genre. He likes cringey, gory horror (which in of itself isn't a bad thing) but with particular love for any horror that involves the unnecessarily graphic assault of a woman. I also think he would really like Michael Bay and Joss Whedon films. Now that I think about it, he probably likes Tarantino as well.
Diana: OK so this one was tricky but I feel like Diana is, very secretly, a dark fantasy fan. She likes Guillermo del Torro and one of her favourite films is The Witches. It's the perfect blend of cynicism and escapism that just really hits the spot for her.
Jack: Jack is a sci-fi and high fantasy fan. Does it have magic?? He'll love it. Space tech?? He'll love it. He is definitely a fan of the big ones like Star Wars, Star Trek, Harry Potter and Lord of The Rings. But, and this may be controversial, I don't see his liking superhero films. He finds them too cliche and simplistic.
Orc: Orc doesn't get to choose what he watches a lot. He usually just has to watch the crime shows that his father puts on. But when he does get the TV, he's a big action fan. Think Terminator style films. He has also seen Die Hard upwards of 10 times.
Howard: Howard likes cult films. And a good Zombie movie never goes amiss. He hasn't gone a single Christmas without watching Gremlins and David Bowie in Labyrinth was his sexual awakening.
Dekka: Dekka likes a wide range of genres with no particular favourite. She leans more towards foreign films, indie films and experimental just because that's where she finds the most lgbt representation. After the FAYZ, she would be introduced to Ava Duvernay's work and would fall in love. If she's looking for an easy watch though, a good slasher never goes amiss
Brianna: Brianna has never, in her LIFE, been able to sit through a full film. However, if her parents order her to sit down for 5 minutes and just be quiet, adventure will always be her choice.
Mary: Mary likes chick-flicks. They're feel good films that don't require much thinking. They make her feel good about herself and give her some much needed entertainment. Also John loves musicals. I have no reason for this, it's just true.
Lana: Dark Comedy all the way. It just fits her personality so well. She enjoys the humour. She enjoys the aesthetic. And she kinda feels like she's rebelling against her parents in a minor way. What she will not tell you is that she is also a sucker for a well-written romance film.
Dahra: Hear me out here. Historical films and period dramas. Not sure why. I just get The Vibe. She loves Pride and Prejudice (as she should) and just finds historical films incredibly interesting and entertaining.
Albert: Albert is another one who likes documentaries. Definitely after the FAYZ he would focus more on business documentaries. But I think before, he would mostly just watch whatever his mother was watching. Which would include a wide range of interesting topics.

Space Jam A New Legacy Wishlist
This here’s a list of properties and characters that I want to see in Space Jam A New Legacy and some explanation as to why or how they can even appear. And I am well aware these would just be cameos. That doesn’t bother me.
RWBY (Warner does in fact own RoosterTeeth and RWBY is just about their most well known original work. Plus Warner seems to have some interest in expanding the RWBY brand, what with a Justice League crossover comic and all)
Mortal Kombat (Owned by Warner and if they’re willing to include the Droogs and freaking Pennywise this franchise has no reason not to appear. Plus it is getting a movie and cross promotion never hurt anyone)
Birdman (There are already Hanna-Barbera super heroes appearing and this one is a personal favorite of mine)
Mightor (Again with the Hanna-Barbera superheroes)
Jonny Quest (Hanna-Barbera and honestly has gotten a bit more of a push in recent years than most of that brand has gotten)
Speed Buggy (They got Jabberjaw so why not)
Freakazoid (The only one of Spielberg’s 90′s cartoons that isn’t up for a reboot. Also it got a crossover episode with Teen Titans Go so it clearly isn’t forgotten)
Beetlejuice (I just like Beetlejuice)
Loonatics Unleashed (I actually enjoyed this show. It wasn’t groundbreaking but it was a pretty fun superhero show that tried to put an original spin on the Looney Tunes. I would just like to see an appearance by them that wasn’t a potshot)
Xiaolin Showdown (This was actually a pretty decent show that seems forgotten nowadays. Would be nice to see something to show it isn’t forgotten.)
Teen Titans (The original cartoon. I just want something for Teen Titans that doesn’t remotely involve Go at this point)
Swat Kats (This is definitely a fan favorite that has gotten jack squat done for it for years. Would be nice if this is where they made a return for a quick moment)
Road Rovers (A personal favorite of mine and also Warner Bros. Would be hilarious if they met the Swat Kats)
Ricochet Rabbit (A personal favorite Hanna-Barbera character of mine)
Venture Bros. (Got screwed over big time with it’s cancellation. An appearance could be a good way of saying “No Hard Feelings”. Also makes the most sense for anything from Adult Swim appearing because they aren’t going to do the HB revamp stuff from Coast to Coast or Attorney at Law for that)
TOM from Toonami (Would just make my day if I’m being honest)
Tom and Jerry (We’ve never actually seen those guys with other Hanna-Barbera characters. Would like to see it happen.)
Lego (I would take anything for this one given how much Warner Bros. has done with Lego media. My personal choice would be Bionicle given that it was hands down Lego’s best franchise but I don’t know if they could legally do that. There were plans for Takanuva in The Lego Movie sequel so it may be impossible.)
Captain Planet (Would just be fun. Especially if he met Don Cheadle’s character face to face)
Big Bird (Just want a Sesame Street character and he’s my choice)
Sam and Dean Winchester (Supernatural got 15 seasons. I think their popularity speaks for itself)
The Banana Splits (This is Hanna-Barbera’s only real stab at live action work. They deserve a spot for that alone)
Godzilla (The Monsterverse is on an upswing after GvK. Plus Kong will appear. Plus it’s Godzilla and we would be there just for him)
Osmosis Jones (If you want a real obscure pick here’s one)
Rick and Morty (The biggest deal on Adult Swim. Need I say more?)
Powerpuff Girls (Due for a live action show. If any Cartoon Cartoons get chosen it would be this one)
Samurai Jack (Still freaking popular with folks. Would drive all of us insane)
Courage the Cowardly Dog (My personal favorite Cartoon Cartoon)
Ed, Edd, n Eddy (Would just be fun)
Johnny Bravo (Very popular Cartoon Cartoon)
Dexter’s Laboratory (Same as above)
Cow and Chicken (Ditto)
I Am Weasel (Michael Dorn would be a good win for the movie)
The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy (Just think of the jokes this one could be used for)
Codename Kids Next Door (Really just want to see these characters again)
Gremlins (Due for an HBO Max cartoon so why not)
Adventure Time (Started the Renaissance age for Cartoon Network so it deserves a spot for that)
He-Man (If Thundercats have gotten in than he deserves to too)
Steven Universe (A personal favorite and Warner Bros isn’t done with the property yet)
Regular Show (The chance to see Mordecai and Rigby’s “Whoa” is too good to pass up)
Young Justice (Love this show. Greg Weisman is the genius who gave it to us. And Phantoms is still a ways off)
Mucha Lucha (Pretty off-kilter and could be a visual stand out)
Speed Racer (I am pretty sure that Warner Bros. has the rights licensed out like the deal they have with Godzilla. I just think it would be fun and awesome)

It’s been a while since I’ve doodled my OC Sabora - she lives in a world based off of 80′s cartoons, ie Thundercats, He-Man, Thundarr, the like. She’s a giant beefy barbarian queen! Here she is showing off with Tomwitch, a mischievous little gremlin of a black cat.
More to come, maybe? We’ll see.

Out of curiosity what are some of the stuff that inspired you to draw and write?
And now you guys get your learn how much of a massive nerd I am.
Anyway, I was heavily inspired by movies like The Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, Neverending Story, The Last Unicorn, The Black Cauldron, A Knight's Tale, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the How to Train Your Dragon series, Beetlejuice, Nightmare before Christmas, Coraline, Jurassic Park, The Grudge, The Ring, the Exorcist, anything by Stephen King (Dad I was like, 5 when you had me watch The Shining), The Gremlins, Dracula, Predator Series (thanks Mom, I was like 7), the Alien series.
For literature I grew up reading Harry Potter (grew up watching the movies to when I lived in a shelter), The Darren Shan Saga/Cirque Du Freak series by Darren Shan, The Demonata Series by Darren Shan (I was in 7th grade. Great job parenting, Dad), Warrior Cats was one of my first major obsessions outside Pokemon and Harry Potter, Artemis Fowl, Leven Thumps, Inkheart series, The Vladimir Todd series, Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr, The Spiderwick Chronicles, Tithe by Holly Black.
For Manga/Anime/shows I was HEAVILY influenced by Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball, Digimon, Pokemon, D.Gray-Man, Katekyo Hitman Reborn, The Ancient Magus Bride, Mahou Sensei Negima, Inuyasha, Cowboy Bebop, Ruroni Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakusho, Detective Conan, Megaman NT warrior and Starforce, Gundam (all if them till Seed), Code Geass, Card Captor Sakura, South Park (thanks Dad, again. Really needed to watch that as a kidnergartner/first grader), Supernatural (up to season 4), Avatar the Last airbender, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Vampire Hunter D (I have a funny story about this one), Charmed, Danny Phantom, Thundercats, Doctor Who, CSI, and Criminal Minds (thanks Mom. I was 7).
Games that were heavily influential to me were probably Pokemon, Final Fantasy (in particular the Tactics games, 6, 9, and 10), Okami, Kingdom Hearts, Fire Emblem, Digimon World series, Persona, Devil Survivor, Elder Scrolls, Professor Layton, Ace Attorney, the Golden Sun series, The Dark Cloud series, Legend of Zelda (especially OoT), Star Fox, and Spyro.
Yeah, lots of influences sure but these all helped me in some way develop my taste in storytelling. Also take note I only included things in my life during the time I was in Highschool or Prior (so 18 and bellow), so this doesnt included any of the more modern inspirations I've gained since (such as Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Shield Hero, ect)

One of these days, I'm going to write the ultimate 80's VLD.
Pidge is a literal Gremlin (like from the movies) - no, a MOGWAI!!!!
Hunk is the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man (only not as big - Mini Marshmallow Man?).
Shiro's Robocop.
Allura's Jem.
Coran's a Care Bear (with a mustache on his tummy).
Lance is a Thundercat.
and Keith is just 80's DotU Keith.
#...I might need to commission this as art#tiny little mogwai Pidge trying to nibble on Hunk's hand#while the clock in the background reads 11:59 PM#Lance has the shiniest fur coat#because of course he takes excellent care of himself#of course Coran is the same color as his hair/mustache in the show

Thundercats Roar Ramble
Yeah, no, this is just a ramble. Rant 2 doesn’t come until I actually see Thundercts Roar-and if it really is bad or not.

So yeah, Ramble. Just wanted to put this thought out there while it’s still fresh in my mind. I mentioned before that they don’t even look like cats, and Lion-O looks like a deformed Gremlin. And they all have pretty...bad designs. But if I’m being honest...Cheetara doesn’t look too bad.
Now I know you all probably think I have a bias towards her. And no, it’s not that. I legit think that, despite the deformed art style, Cheetara has a decent design. Still doesn’t look like a cat, still looks like a gremlin, but I feel she has the only design that isn’t ass. It’s far from my favorite look for Cheetara, but she’s tolerable.
I still hate this art style, don’t get me wrong. I still hate how they’re trying to make a predominately action show into a comedy when, really, they could’ve just made a new show. But I feel Cheetara made it out alright.

Welp... here we go...

If you dont want spoilers then I recommend you skip this entire post because I do not respect this film at all to not talk about the shit that happens in this film.
⚠️AFTER THIS LINE ITS ALL SPOILERS⚠️
This films wants to be an emotional gut punch but it is so... I your face about it. Emotional beats are either predictable or just... they don't hit. And the ultimate sacrifice from Bhgs at the end while sad just doesn't hit anything. And the plot of "Oh the main villain manipulates the kid to go against his dad and the villain ultimately joins the rival team" is really predictable. And I know that in the end this is a film targeted to kids and thats fine. But this film felt like it was trying to be too hip and too aware (the entire joke about LeBron acting hip and the 'don't dab' comment is just not funny)
The jokes
The jokes in this film do not land for me, albeit 2 (the joke about Sylvestar grabbing Michael B Jordan instead of the actual Michael Jordan was ok and the fact Wiley Coyote was in Mad Max was really cool) ; most the jokes either fell flat or completely missed the mark (this film tried to be hip and modern with its humor and honestly it was more cringe than anything else.
Also idk if this was intentional or not, but can we stop making jokes about how companies are stealing our info and spying on us? We get it Zuckerberg is trash Facebook and other big companies are taking our personal info but seriously it does get old. Mitchell's vs the Machines was at least clever because it was about a big tech company abusing it's power. Space Jam: A New Legacy is about an A.I trying to make himself feel better cause he doesn't feel appreciated and is projecting his issues on a kid he cyberstalked for a whopping 3 minutes.
The Plot
The films Plot is predictable, short, and a around not engaging. The idea of bringing another pro basketball player to aid the Tunes in another wild game for their survival isn't the problem, it's the rest of the Plot that's the problem.
The first film had a simple enough Plot that worked really well (The Tunes have to win a basketball game against roided up aliens or they'll become Amusement Park attractions, and they need a bow retired player to hp them win) Its short and sweet and it works.
This film felt the need to overcomicate it by forcing a dramatic subplot into the fold which, can work. You can have a dramatic subplot while still being a Zany and fun film. But SJ:NL can't seem to decide which to focus on; it goes from zany and over the top one moment moment then gives you tonal whiplash when it jumps to the dramatic bits in the plot.
I genuinely think that this film would've benefited from focusing on the zaniness over the drama, since frankly that's always been the focus of the Looney Tunes
Loony Tunes: Back in Action and Space Jam 1 are two tonaly similar films but both have better comedy and each have their respective dramatic beats, though their both saved for the climax of the film.
LT:BIA and SJ1 both have they're own dramatic subplots (M.J makes the deal with Smackhammer to raise the stakes of the game and J.D has to save his father from the Chairman and his plans. The difference here is that these films, while adding a level of drama, don't let the drama overshadow what tnis film is actually about (the Looney Tunes)
SJ:NL let's the drama completely overshadow the actual Tunes and isn't really engaging (to me anyway)
Also I'd like to say that, while giving this film a video game feel was an interesting concept it just reminded me more of Pixels or The Emoni Movie (though this wasn't NEARLY as bad as the Emoji movie I'll say that)
That's something else about this film. It feels like one big advertisement for everything WB owns (much like how Emoji Movie was one big Smartphone ad) and while that isn't inherently a bad thing it can be a hinderence to the film as well (I wanted to watch the films that cameod in this film more than the actual film itself)
The Characters
Look this is the Tom and Jerry film again, we don't go to this film for LeBron and his fictional family (if some people do then that's fine) but most of us go to see the film for the Tunes and the cartoon asthetic, and there's plenty of that here. But I'd like to actually care about the human characters in this film frankly.
Let's just get this out of the way, LeBron is not a great actor. He tries his best yes but he is not a great actor in this film; he reminds me more of Vin Deisel when he acts (he has a voice yes but he doesn't act physically. It's like he's trying to have his voice match the film but his body isn't in tune with it.
Now I don't wanna hate on kid actors, they do what they can and they're kids. But listen this kid was not interesting at all, and id have rathered the film not include him (or very least make him more interesting other than the "Gosh Dad stop pushing your ways and beliefs onto me" archetype.
The Tunes are fine I have no beef with how they treated the Tunes (all for ONE detail)
The way thsi film treats the Tunes in this film bothers me on so many levels. "Send him to the Rejects" "Losers" The fact that they treat the Looney Tunes like they're some forgotten property is really unsettling to me. The Tunes have never been forgotten the notion that they ARE forgotten bothers me so much, regardless if it's a plot point for the film. The Looney Tunes are some of the most recognizable faces in ask of media, and I get this is supposed to be a "New School vs Old School" message like with the Father vs Son but my God I do not like how this protrays the Tunes.
Speaking of the rejects, let's talk about AL G Rythm.
My God this is the most uninteresting villain and his whole plan is so easy to spot from the start of the film. "Oh look at me, I have a bruised ego cause I feel unappreciated in my time and im gonna project my issues on this kid I cyberstalked while praying KING JAMES would bless me with his support." Holy shit my guy you have a bigger ego than Tony Stark and its more bruised than Bruce Wayne's back after Bane was finished. He is one of the most bland villains I've seen in awhile, and the Goon Squad is no better. The Goon Squad is nothing but cool designs and a refderence to more popular Basketball players (and yeah they're supposed to be cronies but at least make them cronies with personality; the Nerdlucks were funny, had personality, and were an integral part of the story (also the fact that they ACTUALLY HAD THE NERDLUCKS CAMEO in in film but they were rooting against the Tunes just... Ehhhhhhhhhh) And the Goon Squad was boring and didn't add anything say for AL G. stealing the kids algorithm to make his own team.
Also sidenote, them constantly calling him "King James" got really annoying really fast. Like we get you gave yourself that nickname, you're the current too NBA player rn and all that but you don't have to keep saying it my God.
Now what did I actually like about this film. Well quite a bit actually.
For starters, the animation was top notch and everything looked great. I thought the 2D models were a little odd at first (too shiny compared to the faded sleek of the original) but they grew on me. All the CGI models of the Tunes looked really great, say for Sam who just looked really weird to me (probably cause he loses his hat by the end and a CGI Yosemeti Sam without a hat just looks strange)
The Tunes also felt exactly how they should in a Space Jam film, Bugs especially. Yes Daffy was his usual comedic self and I like how they had him try and be the manager of the team instead of a player, and every other Tune was just as zany as usual; honestly of all the Tunes I'm genuinely impressed with how they treated Bugs (till the end)
Bugs was the most interesting to see in the film, wherein every character left Tune World except Bugs and he kinda became this Castaway parody (with his own makeshift Porky Pig dummy) and he was just really lonely and stayed true to the Looney Way and he just wants his family back. That entire subplot is the most interesting part of this film hands down; the only thing about Bugs's arc I didn't like was the end which was predictable, but i was still more invested in Bugs's arc than anyone else's.
Also when they showed the Tunes on the other WB worlds in the Warnerverse that's not the name ik but it's basically the Warnerverse the only Movie refferences that i thought were clever were Mad Max, Austin Powers, and Themyscira. And as much as it pains me to admit it the Rick and Morty Gag with Taz was probably the funniest of them, and I don't even like Rick and Morty anymore.
The Matrix was just eh, Yosemite Sam just didn't land, Game of Thrones was just not funny and I won't apologize. As far as the cameos/refferences in the end I'll say it again, I wanted to watch the movies and shows that cameod more than the film itself. I'm not gonna try to list them off but some highlights were seeing Gremlins, the Mask, every Tim Burton Batman villain/Adam West Batman, Thundercats, and Scooby Doo. Aside from that this was all just one big add for Warner Bros.
So I'm gonna try end this on a note that I know alot of people are gonna bring up or use to say shouldn't be brought up: Nostalgia.
Listen. This film has the same issue that alot of modern film reboots tend to have, which is the fact that it has to match the same hype as the film that came before it.
Now I'd like to say that this isn't gonna be a Power Point on reboots, God knows this is long enough as is, but the issue with alot of reboots is that they try to remake something that more often than not did the media justice the first time around. Robocop, Nightmare on Elm Street, Ghostbusters 2016, litterally every Disney L.A Remake. This isn't to say these films can't be good, or even surpass their predecessors. But more often than not they tend to miss the mark either just barely or drastically.
And here's the thing, this argument can also apply to sequel films that are following up an iconic film that for fhe most part is still very prominent in modern media.
Space Jam has, for better or for worse, remained one of the most iconic films every made, if not for its premise alone. And when they announced a sequel it was only inevitable that people compare it to the original because, let's face it, we want the new film to live up to the original.
We want this new shiny film to live up to the film we all knew growing up as kids and adults, seeing the Tunes on a basketball court for the first time back in the 90s. And frankly, this film did not do that for me.
This film, to me, wants to be what Space Jam already is. But it felt the need to try and thats the first step it failed; it wanted to be hip and aware and make loads of refferences to the original
This film has a similar issue to Ghostbusters:Answer the Call I think, where in it wants to stand on its own two feet, but jt cant help but constantly remind us of a much superior film. We know they've done this before you don't have to keep saying it "We need help with a basketball game Lola!" Been there! Done that!" "So you want me to help you win a high stakes basketball game? One that could very well decide both our fates? Hmmmmm where have I seen that before?"
This film is like that one kid in class who already proved he was right, and is still trying to prove he was right.
If you think this film is great and you enjoy it just as much as the original that's perfectly fine, I'm not gonna try to overshadow your opinions, I just want to share mine.
In the end, I'm gonna rate this film a solid 4/10 (and most of that 4 is the comedy and the animation and the Tunes themselves.) Can you watch this just for the Tunes? Absolutely. Can you like this film more than me? Also absolutely. Do I think this film would've been worth it if I'd have seen it in theaters? No not at all I'm glad I waited for HBO Max.
#again#this is all my own hot take#you can have your opinions#and ill have my opinions#space jam#space jam 2#space jam new legacy#space jam 2021#lebron james#bugs bunny#warner bros#dc comics#the looney tunes show#looney tunes#looney toons#movie review#movie rant

That makes sense that Annoying Gremlin Pidge was an alien. I feel better about this.
Actually, the “gremlin” bit seems to be more an eighties cartoon problem where they completely misunderstand how to make a character charming or likable. (see eighties Thundercats and Snarf- he has very much the same kind of voice and mannerisms) Like... it’s the eighties version of the Blatant Mascot Character.
I think Voltron Force made Pidge an alien ninja child because in DotU he was inexplicably able to leap ten feet in the air and held a grenade to Lotor’s face and IIRC there was never any real explanation for why this twelve-year-old was so bafflingly death metal.

Welcome to Fandom
You know, one of the great things about fanwork - fanfic, fanart, fan edits, fanvids, cosplay, etc. - is taking this thing you love and making it a sandbox where you can basically do what you want. The creative exploration is fantastic, and it’s super helpful in helping hone your chosen craft.
Like, I could write a Voltron AU where Shiro’s RoboCop, Allura’s Jem, Keith is a ThunderCat, Lance is DotU Lance, Hunk is the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, and Pidge is a literal Gremlin (don’t get her wet...). It doesn’t make any sort of sense! It doesn’t HAVE TO MAKE ANY SORT OF SENSE. It’s just for fun! (and if you’re wondering, Coran is Inspector Gadget.)
In fanart, I’ve seen Allura with different features, Keith with super wide hips, Shiro with even floofier hair, Lance being much taller than he’s presented in the show, etc. I HAVE WITNESSED CORAN WITHOUT A MUSTACHE. Because it’s fun to play with.
Fanwork is a labor of love, a passionate expression of creativity. It’s experimentation - tweaking, poking, combining and re-combining. And not everyone’s going to love the end result. That’s to be expected. We don’t all love - or even like - the same things.
And that is why “Block” exists. That is why “Unfollow” exists. That is why there are tags and warnings and ways to filter out the content you don’t want.
There are a lot of areas in our lives where reflexively limiting the voices we are exposed to is a bad idea. It limits our growth and narrows our horizons. It leaves us in echo chambers and leads to extremism of thought and personal philosophy.
But fanworks don’t fall into that category. This is FUN. This is about ENJOYMENT. If you’re not enjoying something, don’t engage with it. It’s really that simple. You have to go out of your way to yell at or lecture someone when you can, instead, just filter their content out of your life and go find other content that you actually will enjoy.
There’s a WEALTH of creative expression out there. I encourage everyone to try their hand at some! Even if you think “I can’t write” or “I can’t draw” or whatever - learn! Please, never ever stop learning! Learn how to express the creativity in your own soul and make your own works! It’s a lot of fun, and it helps you meet other people who also like the kind of work you’re doing.
But, at a minimum, let others do as they please with their own fanworks. If you don’t like it, step away. Don’t go out of your way to make yourself angry, upset, or stressed by continuing to expose yourself to content that you hate or that triggers you in some way. Be HAPPY. Have FUN.
Because this is Fandom where anyone can be and do anything.
