While I'm still riding the Xenoblade X hyperfixation, let me just use it to talk gender identity some more.
Between deciding on my current Cross design back during last December and where I am now (i.e. feeling that I'm probably a Woman But A Bit To The Side), I initially did have the plan of just switch between the male design and the female one. But even though I kept those two looking as close to each other as possible, there was always something that I didn't quite like about the male one on a very basic level, and something that I just couldn't put my finger on, let alone fix. Somewhere down the line, I decided to also make myself smaller builds for both, as an alternative to switch to. So, "Young Boy" instead of "Boy", and "Girl" instead of "Woman". For the female Cross, that worked out well enough, and I still have the design I came up with for that saved in-game, even if I have taken no screenshots. But with the male Cross? For the life of me, I could not put together a design that I even remotely liked. Absolutely nothing felt right, even though on principle, I guess I preferred the younger looking face over my actual "main" male Cross (which even then, I almost never used). In the end, I just gave up that whole design process entirely. I guess that only really serves to show that I'm really not off in my current self-perception. . .

quais tipos de jogo você mais gosta? (exemplos: jogos soulslike ou jogos de escolha)
I like RPGs!!! My favorite game series of all time are Pokémon and Fire Emblem, but here are the games I have the most hours in/have played the most:
Splatoon 2 & 3 each have over 200 hours in them lol, love them
I own every mainline Pokémon game somewhere in my room, and most of the mystery dungeon games, and 2/3 of the ranger games
I play FE Fates (all three of them) at least twice a year, Awakening once a year, Echoes once a year, Three Houses twice a year, and I’ve beaten Engage three times since it came out in January
I’ve played all three danganronpa games to completion, voiced by myself outside of trials
And I do a casual speedrun of Undertale and Deltarune around the middle of summer just for fun

A bit of an informative post this time, a little bit about me and my art;
• I’m 19 years old.
•Female, She/Her
•American
•(Mostly) Straight. I’ve never been attracted to an IRL woman, but if Jolyne Cujoh was offering, I’m not gonna say no.
•I am in college and studying to be a marine biologist.
•I’m autistic and tend to overexplain things. Usually I don’t like the publicize it, but given that this is an information post I figured it would be worth mentioning.
•I’ve been drawing seriously since about 5th grade, so… give or take about 9 years.
•I used to be a primarily traditional artist, pen and paper, you know. But once I got out of high school, I found it difficult to do it- something about the environment of general highschool made drawing like that easier I guess?? I don’t draw every day, like I used to, but I still make a habit of doing it.
•Despite that, I still very much am a detail oriented artist, leading to my more detail-focused art style and tendency to not color my drawings and just focus on the sketches. I put a lot of detail into my linework, but every time I end up coloring, I find that the sketch always looked better. I do want to work on coloring, though, as I feel my art is not as eye catching to an audience without it.
•My other hobbies other than art consist of playing video games and writing. I’m a decent writer.
•I’ve been in a multitude of communities over the years, and although I’m not active in most of them anymore, I figured it would be useful to list them, just because this is an ‘about me’ post.
•My communities (that I’ve at least made one piece of art for) over the years;
-Undertale and Deltarune (UT and DR)
-Homestuck (HS)
-Marvel (MCU)
-Overwatch (OW)
-JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure (JJBA)
-Shovel Knight (SK)
-Cuphead (CHD)
-Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)
-Five Nights at Freddy’s (FNAF)
-Fire Emblem (FE)
-SCP Foundation (SCP)
-Attack on Titan (AOT)
-Pokémon (PKMN)
-The Legend of Zelda (LOZ)
-The Binding of Isaac (TBOI)
-Minecraft (MC) (NOT Minecraft YT, just the game.)
-Dungeons and Dragons (DND)
-Kirby (KRBY)
-Splatoon (SPLT)
-Persona 5 (P5)
-Cult of the Lamb (COTL)
-Dead Cells (DEDC)
-The Elder Scrolls V, Skyrim (ES5)
-Cyberpunk 2077 (CBP)
-Harry Potter (Regrettably) (HP)
-Final Fantasy 7 (FF7)
-Red Dead Redemption (RDR)
-Terraria (TR)
-Pikmin Series (PIK)
-Alien (The Movie Series) (ALN)
-Stardew Valley (SDV)
-The Disastrous Life of Saiki K (SAIK)
-Monster Hunter (MH)
-Ryu Ga Gotoku/Yakuza/Judgment Series (RGG) •Current Fanbase•
-
•Authors note: I’m not aware of the abbreviations for some of these fanbases so I just kinda made some up. If I got one wrong, shoot me a message and let me know! I’ll change it.
•I tend to focus on one fanbase at a time.
•These are just the fanbases that I’ve ever made art for. This isn’t all the games I’ve played/shows I’ve watched. Just the ones I’ve made art for at some point in time. If I were to list everything I’ve ever watched/played, this list would be way longer, and it’s plenty long as is.
•Don’t expect most of my stuff to be colored. 90% of my drawings are sketches. That’s why it’s called ‘Vanilla’s Sketch Extravaganza’.

Smash Universe Experience
So I’ve been in a bit of a bad mental state the last few days, lots of personal stress and such, the tropics won’t shut up, various current year events, etc.  So trying to distract self with various things, and figured I’d try figuring out what my personal history is with the various Smash Bros. franchises.  Note, we’re only counting actual fighters here, not Mii Costume inclusions.  Distraction tactics go! :
Super Mario : I’ve played a lot of Mario games definitely.  I think I missed some of the “New” SMB games, like I never played the one on DS where there were things like the Gold Flower and it was all about getting as many coins as possible.  Also some side games, like I... at least don’t THINK I’ve played any of the “sports” type games like the golf, tennis, baseball, or soccer ones.  Also never really got into the Paper Mario series, only played Super Paper Mario and never finished it.  Also Superstar Saga is the only one of the “Mario & Luigi” RPGs I ever played.  Want to say there are a few Party games I skipped as well.  If we count Luigi’s Mansion under the Mario blanket, I haven’t played 2 (but have a copy) or 3 (want to get a copy).  Still, fairly solid Mario experience under my belt.
Donkey Kong : There are a number of DK games I have played, but probably more that I missed.  I played the original, DK Jr., pretty sure I’ve at least played DK3 on things like Virtual Console or such?  As far as the Country games, I’ve... only really played the first two and part of the third.  I tried DKC3 while I was at Full Sail, but could just never really get into it.  I did play the GBC Donkey Kong game, that one’s good...  I want to try the DKCR games, I’ve heard good things.  Definitely would like to at least get the Switch port of Tropical Freeze and give that a go.
Legend of Zelda : As far as officially sanctioned and remembered Zelda games (we don’t talk about the CDi games, which I never had that system so never played them anyway), I want to say the only mainline Zelda game I never played was Skyward Sword.  I never had a Wii Motion Plus, so couldn’t play that one.  Keep hoping we get a port on Switch so I can try it.  There are some side games I never played though, like never played Crossbow Training, or the Tingle game.   Oh, actually I guess I never played Tri Force Heroes, admittedly not sure how well that one plays as a single-player experience.
Metroid : I’ve played most of the Metroid series I would say.  I think my main gaps are Metroid Prime Pinball, Hunters, haven’t gotten around to playing Prime 3 but I do have the Wii version of Trilogy.  Kinda hoping Trilogy gets a Switch port.  I haven’t played Other M or Federation Force either.  I’m also admittedly a weirdo what preferred the original Metroid to Zero Mission, and probably preferred the original Metroid II to Samus Returns.
Yoshi : I never did finish playing Yoshi’s Story, but I have played Yoshi’s Island to 100% completion, as well as Woolly World.  Also need to finish Crafted World sometime.  I want to say there’s some motion control Yoshi game I know of but never played, but I think I also might be mixing it up with a Kirby game...?
Kirby : I’ve played a lot of Kirby games, though I know I never played Mass Attack, Squeak Squad, Epic Yarn, Canvas Curse, or Rainbow Curse.  I want to say there might have been another one as well...?  Well I know I never played Super Star Deluxe, and there are some of those mini side games on 3DS I never played.  I think there was also one with a clay aesthetic I never played?  Unless that was already one of the ones I mentioned...
Star Fox : The only ones I’ve ever played are the original and 64.  I do have SNES Online, so I can give 2 a try sometime.  I’m... really bad at Star Fox games though, haha.
Pokémon : ......Considering I have an alternate blog for all my Pokémon nicknames, yeah, I think we’re covered here.  I’ve played all main series games and most side games by this point.  I did not play Dash, and there were those three Mystery Dungeon games on Wii eShop that never got released here.  I never played Masters, nor the new Cafe game, and only really played Go long enough to get Meltan and Melmetal.  But yes, pretty solid Pokémon experience.
Mother : Earthbound is the only one I played.  I tried on multiple occasions to really get into it, but just... couldn’t really.  It just never really reeled me in and kept my interest.  I think the furthest I ever made it before quitting was the desert area near Fourside, and I just ran out of steam.
F-Zero : I’ve only played the original and I think maybe the one on GBA a little?  I can’t say it’s a series I’m good at, haha.  And yet the crazy part of me would kinda like to get the infamously difficult Gamecube one.
Ice Climbers : Yep, I’ve played it....  That’s pretty much all we got for that one, just the one game, and yes I’ve played it.
Fire Emblem : The only FE game I’ve played is Fire Emblem Warriors, so... not exactly the real FE experience.  Granted I can’t say I really feel all that interested.  Turn based strategy games like FE, Advance Wars, Wargroove, they don’t tend to keep me interested all that long.  I also have a feeling the permadeath aspect would drive me batty.
Game & Watch : I don’t know if I ever had a legitimate Game & Watch, as in, the actual machines.  However I played the heck out of the Game & Watch Gallery games.  I loved those things.
Kid Icarus : I’ve played the original and Uprising all the way through.  The GB one, Of Myths & Monsters, I’ve only gotten to try that one via an emulation, and it glitched during a boss fight, so I was never able to finish it.
Wario : On the Wario Land side of things, I’ve played most of them I think.  I never played Master of Disguise, not sure if that counts as a “Land” game.  As for WarioWare, that too, I’ve played most of them, though I never played Smooth Moves I think, the Wii one?  I know I’ve played the original, Twisted, Touched, and Gold.
Metal Gear : I haven’t played much of this series.  I played a little of the original NES game, never beat it, and watched my uncle play the original Metal Gear Solid, and..... honestly I think that’s about it.  So not a lot of Metal Gear experience.
Sonic the Hedgehog : I’ve played a lot of Sonics.  I didn’t play 4 or either of the “Storybook” games, haven’t really had access to most of the side games though, like I never played Shuffle, the Game Gear ones, also never played things like the Sega All Stars Racing games, not sure if those count for Sonic or just Sega in general really though to be fair.  I do have a weird choice of favorite Sonic game though, I unironically really enjoyed the 360 version of Unleashed.
Pikmin : Unless you count things like the Gamecube and Wii versions of Pikmin as separate entities, I think I’ve played all Pikmin games : 1-3 and Hey Pikmin.  I have 3 Deluxe pre-ordered as I felt it would be an easier one to record for an eventual project.
ROB : Played one out of the two games he had.  I played Gyromite, never had Stack Up.  Sadly my ROB was stolen long ago from storage.
Animal Crossing : I want to say the only ones I never played were Wild World and Happy Home Designer.  Well, unless you count ones that weren’t released here.
Mega Man : Yeah, kinda think I got this one covered.  I never played the Game Gear one, which.... yeah, looks pretty bad, so I don’t feel I missed out there.  Played 1 - 11 of the Classic series, as well as Powered Up and MM & Bass.  Played X1 - X5, Zero 1 - 3, all the Battle Network games (aside from mobile ones that I don’t think were released here), Starforce 1 and 2 (got 3, just never got around to it, and never quite finished 2), and a small bit of Legends 1 (want to give that another try sometime).  Heck, even played the PC Mega Man 1 and 3.  Think I’m pretty set with this one, haha.
Wii Fit : I.... played Wii Sports, does that actually count?  Probably not.  I never played one of the proper Wii Fit games with the balance board and all that.
Punch-Out!! : I played the NES and Wii games.  I... honestly don’t remember if I ever played Super Punch-Out!! or not...  I know I never beat the Wii game, I stalled out at Soda Popinski.
Pac-Man : I’ve played a lot of Pac-Man games, as well as other retro Namco games.  I had all the Namco Museum games on PS1, loved those.  There were a ton of different Pac-Man games though, so there are likely some I missed along the way.  Probably mostly in the vein of Pac-Man World type games, I don’t think I got to play a lot of those.
Xenoblade : I never played any of the Xenoblade games.  I’m kind of intrigued by maybe wanting to get the Switch port of Xenoblade Chronicles, but RPGs tend to be intimidating for me to get into, the whole time commitment thing.  Still seems like something I might be interested in trying sometime.
Duck Hunt : Indeed, I played it.  I know well the trauma of dog ridicule.  As far as other light-gun games on NES, I did play Hogan’s Alley and Gumshoe.
Street Fighter : I think the only one I ever played was the SNES version of Street Fighter 2 that had the four extra characters, I want to say it added Cammy, Dee Jay, T. Hawk, and Fei Long I want to say?
Final Fantasy : The main ones I played a lot of were 7 and 9.  I did play a bit of the one with Kefka as a kid, but didn’t really get too into it.
Bayonetta : I’ve played both 1 and 2 all the way though, and am interested in hearing more about 3 when we get some new info there.  I can’t say I’m that GOOD at them, but I could at least beat them, haha.  Still find them fun.
Splatoon : I played the original, but can’t play online, so just the single player stuff.  Still need to do that on Splatoon 2, I do have a copy, just haven’t really gotten around to playing it.
Castlevania : I’ve played MOST of the series I want to say?  Mainly some of the 3D ones I missed on, never played the Lord of Shadows games, 64, also notably never had access to the actual Rondo of Blood, only Dracula X.
Persona : The only one I ever played is Persona 4.  I’d be tempted to give 5 a shot if it got a Switch port.  Admittedly I kinda shied away from this series for awhile due to Persona 3 being the main one I’d heard about, and mostly it was hearing about how they invoked their Personas, which was... not something I liked due to personal squick with that sort of thing.  I had the mistaken impression that was how it was in ALL the games as such.
Dragon Quest : I’ve played a bit of some of the NES ones as a kid, but never really could get too into them.  Always liked the monster designs though, so I did like the Dragon Quest Monsters games.  Only got to play the two on GBC though.  I tried the demo for DQ 11... just didn’t really pull me in.  Turn based RPGs are just hard for me to get into admittedly.
Banjo-Kazooie : I played and loved the original and Tooie, as well as the GBA game (don’t remember much about that one though).  I never played Nuts & Bolts.
Fatal Fury : I don’t THINK I’ve ever played a Fatal Fury game.  If so, I have no real memories of doing so.  Still familiar with Terry though, just never really had much SNK / Neo Geo access growing up.
ARMS : I only ever played the demo of the game, not the full one.
Minecraft : I’ve never played it.  From what I’ve seen, it doesn’t look like my kind of game.  Just total open world sandbox / survival type stuff, not usually something that pulls me in, and admittedly I don’t really like the Minecraft aesthetic too much.  Nothing against anyone that likes it, just not really my thing.

I’m sorry I haven’t really been active recently. I have this blog free of my personal issues for many reasons, so I won’t go into any details. You can look below if you’re interested in the handful of details I’ll give in the cut. I’ll keep it short, but I suffered rather big emotional problems recently that took so much out of me. One of them, actually roleplay-related. I’m going to therapy, thankfully, and have been for over a year, and I have an amazing support system of wonderful people I love. Still, it’s really difficult for me to handle these issues, and it’s the most broken I’ve gotten in a long while.
I’m going to be a bit inactive because of these reasons (I need to be in the best mental state to roleplay, unfortunately–and I don’t want to tarnish the quality of my replies by just throwing stuff out when I’m not ready), so I apologize for that. Just know, I’m not leaving. I’m just starting to push myself in the FE and the Splatoon, but the Pokémon community is an incredible place I’ve grown attached to, surprisingly. I say surprisingly since I got anxiety attacks from seeing all these fancy blogs and long rules because I was all too used to the very chill Cookie Run RPC. I was worried I wouldn’t fit in, but when I came back from my hiatus in November, I’ve found so many roleplaying partners and even befriended some of them. I feel like I finally have a place in this community, and that I’m not a stranger. Pretty good for only a few months, huh? I’m entirely thankful for all the people who have given me chances and who have interacted with me. Even more thankful for those who have stayed and loved my interpretations!
I really mean it when I say roleplaying is for me to cope. I’ve been coping with it for, what, nine years? It’s something that I’ve gotten close to people from, and I’ve made unbelievable friends that I still have, years later. I even met my partner from these roleplays. It really is something that’s been helping me throughout all the chaos of my life in reality, and something I don’t know what I’d do without. So again, I want to thank everyone who has helped me and has had fun with me! I know it takes me forever to reply, but I value every roleplay I get and I don’t want to stop any of them. My motivation changes too infrequently to my own dismay, but I applaud those who don’t get angry at my low-attention span. Thank you! Now, below, will be the major reason for my sporadic activity that will involve personal issues (talking in heavy detail about abuse and a lot of it). Only go down there if you want to and if you’re able to handle such dark topics.
I will be vague as not to upset anyone–originally I was talking heavily of this, but I found it too graphic and too much of my vulnerable state being seen out in the open. I write this while my anxiety is attacking me, so that isn’t good either. Anyhow, I’ve been suffering all my life in an abusive household, physically and verbally. I remember my mother always insulting me harshly if I bothered her, hitting me as well. The worst of the emotional and physical abuse is from my older brother though. I dreaded whenever something bad happened, as he would always cause an entire fight for the family to get sucked into. Not just arguing, but full-on physical fighting. I remember trying to stand against my brother, and my mother was the only one to stop him from beating me into pieces. So much chaos, I can’t believe we’re still together.
Fortunately or not for me, I have the worst memory and I forget a lot that happens to me, but that doesn’t mean my feelings change easily. But at the same time, they do. I forget the bad things they do, I give them chances, something terrible happens. Rinse and repeat. This has been going on for years and years, and while the chaos has calmed down in a sense, it’s still an ongoing thing. I’ve developed anxiety and depression, so these things are even worse to me. I handle them better, yes, but at the same time, I’m more broken from it all. I can’t continue it anymore.
I’ve always wanted to move out of here, but as my mental health worsened over the years, so did my general performance. I was considered to AP classes when I was young and in school until I took such a heavy hit from everything. Then, I couldn’t even handle normal classes. I had the goal of going to college, to both better my life, and to finally be able to live without being with my family. However, now, I’m unable to due to how much I struggled. I would struggle even more in college and waste thousands of dollars doing so. It’s not worth it.
I can’t be here anymore. Fortunately, I’ve been asked to live with a friend of mine, though I was very unsure if I could, since my mother hangs like an overbearing hawk over me. I’m an adult, yet I have to ask to go to places. I have to write such an essay on who I’m going with. It’s downright irritating and demeaning. I’ve never been free until I recently started to hang with one of my friends from school. We drove in the night, even at 3 AM, doing what we pleased without even informing my mother of all the details. It was honestly the most fun I’ve ever had in my life, even if we were just screaming around like idiots. He’s the only one my mother trusts, but lately, my mother has been guilt-tripping me and accusing me of hating her and everyone in the family, all because I’ve been going to friend’s houses, and not inviting them over. Like, petty highschooler drama business, it’s really sad. She’s nearly 60 years old, and yet she still acts like that. I can’t invite anyone over in the place I hate the most. It’s a whole trip just getting the courage to ask, and it hurts to have shit thrown at me for it. I can’t even stand being here, so why would I bring people I love dearly to such a horrible place? I got an anxiety attack when my friend just entered my house to say hi to my mother a few weeks ago.
I’m going to get out of here, no matter what it takes. I hate this environment, it’s unhealthy for me and I’m not going to be my siblings who decide to stay despite everything bad. I finally got my ID recently (by my therapist; my mother would always say she would help me get it, but she never did–no matter how much I kept reminding her) and while it’s been difficult to find a job that doesn’t deal with Amazon or food (I have anxiety issues with fast-food chains, as my mom would always yell and insult the employees every time we went there), I need one so badly. I’m going to save much money as I can, so I can be prepared for moving out of this place. It’s hard for me to be so pro-self-care about myself, but I deserve better. No one deserves to be in such a toxic home. Hell, this place never felt home to me. I always looked forward to going to school to seek asylum, despite me being bullied there–anything was better than this house. Now that I’m grown and graduated, I don’t have that safe space anymore.
I’m going, whether she likes it or not. I’m going to talk about this to my friend when we next meet up, but I’m also going to take steps to get closer to achieving this goal from my therapist. I don’t even have to tell her I’m going, but I want to leave a message for her when I leave so she doesn’t hunt me down or say I’ve been kidnapped. My therapist said something to me that I’ve been trying to remind myself: I’m an adult, and I can do whatever I want, and I don’t have to ask permission from anyone or tell anyone what I’m doing. She has no legal ties to me since I was a ward of the state when I was a child, meaning she only had guardianship over me until I was 18. I’m nothing to her. I’m so afraid of making her upset or getting her angry at me, I nearly broke down mid-session at the thought of it. After all, I’ve been spending my years, hiding my real self away so I can blend in and not get myself killed in this place. It’s been damaging.
I feel like I’ve talked too much of this, but I did seal it off with a warning and a read more. I think I needed this though, I needed to let out my feelings out on a document. I wanted to sound more enthusiastic about leaving, so I apologize for that and talking so much about this. I will never talk about my personal life negatively again, and if I do, it’s something big. Just in case, I will be making a new tag (TW Personal), so if you don’t want to see this stuff, you can block the tag. Thank you, for whoever has read this far. You didn’t need to, but I’m ever appreciative and I admire how you could survive this heavy content. Take a rest if you can, alright? I love you!

Hey tacky! So what games( other than fire emblem and Sims )do u like to play ? Any suggestions?
Hoo boy, you’ve opened Pandora’s box with that question, I can ramble about games for forever! I don’t talk much about gaming here, but it’s one of my main hobbies.
My favoritegenres are turn-based RPGs and SRPGs, and visual novels. Aside from FE, I’m alsoa longtime Megami Tensei , Ace Attorney and Pokémon fan, and I really likeotome games too. I also like watching let’s plays (Chuggaaconroy’s my favorite,he’s funny and super knowledgeable, and his videos have a very feel good vibe)and I have a Twitch channel with a friend where we take turns playing games theother wants to see but won’t play on her own (because we can’t be arsed withthe mechanics and the like), so I’m getting to enjoy games outside of mycomfort zone that way. Anything you’re looking for in terms of recommendations?I always tell people to try out the Persona series, the newer Shadowrun gamesand the Devil Survivor games, but I can point you in a more specific directiondepending on the genre or gaming equipment you have.
What else…I also love Animal Crossing, and I got hooked on Splatoon a few months ago, andthough I’ve never liked a shooter before, I’ve found out that flinging paint atpeople is much more fun and way less stressful than shooting them to death.

Just wanted to to talk about my opinion on Nintendo’s E3 presentation.
K so of course imma get the octo expansion pack for splatoon. Imma get Pokémon let’s go pikachu.
I’m a little sad/disappointed that they didn’t presented anything on Bayonetta 3. I was hoping we would get some sort of trailer or more info or maybe some kind of release date. But I guess that just means they’re still early on development.
But Super Smash Bros tho.... IT IS LITERAL HEAVEN. DAISY IS IN IT. I can’t believe Sakurai actually managed to put Ridley in it. All the Zelda characters look BEAUTIFUL AF. IT’S AMAZING! EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER THAT HAS EVER BEEN IN SMASH IS PLAYABLE. Also, small detail, I like that they put Rodin as an assist trophy in the game.
Now tbh about FE16...... so far..... I don’t like it. I don’t like the art style of the characters; I don’t like how it looks like the Persona games. I prefer the styles they had in previous FE games like with Fates. I know I’m probably being biased or whatever cuz FE Fates was my first fire emblem game. But the way they advertised Fates, the art style, the characters of Nohr and Hoshido, the storyline, the different paths, etc etc, was what captured my eye on FE Fates and on the FE series in general. Now I’ll still be keeping my eye out on FE16. I do want to find out more about it and stuff, but as of right now, I don’t like it that much. The only thing about that FE16 trailer that caught my eye was that new goddess lady.

March 10: Smash, the Switch, and the Current Nintendo Landscape
Tumblr media
Since around the time discussion began on a possible Smash 6 and what it might look like, one of the things that I kept thinking about was time. It’s been not even four years since the games were first released, and yet the whole world of Nintendo feels drastically different. We’ve got a new console that’s the fastest selling machine in the company’s history. We’ve got mobile games, with Pokémon GO in particular being one of the most iconic games of the 2010s.
Generally - and, I think, understandably - Smash generally gravitates towards not just classic games but the biggest, most important releases in the years preceding the game. Melee took in The Binding Blade, Majora’s Mask, Donkey Kong 64, Yoshi’s Story, and Star Fox 64. Brawl drew from Twilight Princess, Wind Waker, Sunshine, Diamond & Pearl, Pikmin, and Prime. For looked at Galaxy, X & Y, the various Mii and Wii games, Skyward Sword, Mario Kart 8, New Leaf, and Xenoblade. It leads to this interesting result where you have characters and stages that represent key eras and iconic games in Nintendo’s history, giving the series a wide range of what it represents.
And this got me to thinking. Because whether or not it’s a fully new game, or an expanded port, or what have you, there are a lot of really important games that came out since the release of Smash For. I’ve put together a list of things that would normally be fairly obvious choices for representation in the series:
Splatoon and Splatoon 2: Probably the most obvious one here. Splatoon is Nintendo’s biggest IP in a long time, and it’s already an iconic series with its own huge sequel. We’re getting the Inklings, of course, but we also got that Mii costume for DLC (and you better believe my Mii rocked that squid hat). A stage and some of the series’ rockin’ tunes are fairly obvious additions.
Fire Emblem Fates: At a collective 1.6 million copies sold worldwide by the time of Nintendo’s 2017 shareholders meeting, the two Fates releases did not do as quite well as Fire Emblem: Awakening, but those are still very good sales for a series that is still considered fairly niche. I don’t think we’ll get more from them than Corrin and a few more music tracks, but it’s worth highlighting.
Yoshi’s Woolly World: Really, this isn’t important “enough” (though it did get that 3DS port), but I’m adding it here because Woolly World material was included in Smash For Wii U, so far before the game came out that the original main theme included in Smash is actually different from the final version. I could see more of its excellent score being added, though.
Super Mario Maker: The official stage builder is a fairly worthwhile part of the Mario series, so its having gotten that DLC stage is pretty cool. Not really much else we could get from it.
Pokémon Sun & Moon: Okay, now we’re getting into really new territory. Sun & Moon are the second best selling 3DS game of all time (after Mario Kart 7 and X & Y) and the second best selling game of 2016. They’re also, and this is the most important part, a new Pokémon generation, which is inherently a fairly big deal and worth some sort of inclusion. If this Smash is a “fully” new game, I’d expect a stage from Alola, and possibly a new character.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: More than any game on this list - except possibly Splatoon, as it’s a new series - Breath of the Wild absolutely deserves representation. It’s a symbol of Nintendo’s new commercial success, it’s one of the most critically acclaimed games of the past two decades, it’s the de facto mascot of the Switch, and it’s probably the biggest Zelda game since Ocarina of Time. And, well, it certainly looks like we’re getting Link (or a Link) in his Breath of the Wild gear.
Super Mario Odyssey: And here’s the other Switch icon. Odyssey is a big deal as well - for a lot of journalistic outlets, Nintendo was competing with itself for Game of the Year awards - and its wide array of locations, music, and memorable moments are all worth adding to any kind of Smash game.
Tumblr media
This list also ignores a lot of other reasonably important games since Smash For: Xenoblade X and 2, ARMS, Star Fox Zero, Samus Returns, Kirby Star Allies, Miitopia, Fire Emblem Echoes, and Captain Toad. It also ignores upcoming stuff like Kirby Star Allies and the untitled (or unseen) Yoshi, Pokémon, and Metroid Prime Switch games, and crossovers like Mario + Rabbids and Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE. I also didn’t count mobile games or side projects like Nintendo Labo, as Sakurai has a history of now drawing much from spinoffs, a field into which those very cleanly fall.
But still, that’s a pretty damn wide selection, right? Splatoon really did start this path for Nintendo, one that’s drastically reversed a lot of their recent fortunes. It hasn’t even been half the length of a console generation, and already their landscape seems so different. I suspect that highlighting the Inklings, Mario, and Link’s Breath of the Wild outfit - all Switch staples - Nintendo’s way of telling us that this will be very much a game drawing from and part of its current history.

Nintendo Direct Recap
So for those who can't tell from my twitter (@alisdair42), I've become a bit of a fan of Nintendo recently. so I ended up watching yesterday’s Nintendo direct. since I did a big review of the switch trailer, I tried to do something similar. only problem, that took about an hour to make for a few minutes of trailer footage. this is a full half hour long piece of news, that went so fast, I couldn't press pause during the live coverage. aside from some small typo corrections and edits, this is exactly what I typed. heads up, it's a lot of content...
New Pikmin game for the 3DS coming out on July 28, along with an Amiibo more info on that coming later. another 3DS game called ever oasis on June 23. monster hunter stories look like a monster hunter: pokémon rip off edition 3ds, this autumn. YO-KAI watch 2 was just released, and it has an early day exclusive with A June 2nd to be the expiry date for some in game itemsspr@kl3s as a code Culdcept Revolt on 3ds game, some card/board game  September 1stRPG Maker Fes is now a 3DS is a thing there is a free player for that tooJune 23 Miitomo gets a sequel or DLC, I can't really tell, called miitopia release date is sometime this year.
new fire emblem, NOW WITH DLC, because who doesn't want DLC it also offers seasons pass. because doesn't every gamer want to spend more money on a game that they already own, without knowing the quality, content, or even release date of the thing that they're buying?
It's the 25th anniversary of Kirby, which is weird since it seems like we just had 25 years of Mario. I thought that Kirby was a lot younger, oh well. how are they celebrating this? with a 2d fighter game, out now. Kirby blow out blast looks to be a weird 3d puzzle game, and I just can't wait for the comparisons to Toad treasure tracker, even if it's not deserved, it's coming this summer, e-shop only. there also something that there not telling us about for this winter, so I can't really comment on that at all...
you know how Nintendo love to play on people's nostalgia, WELL THERE'S A BRAND NEW BRAIN TRAINING GAME : DDDDDD
Devilish training: can you stay focused?
I'm not certain if devilish training is the name of some diet chocolate or a porno, and I don't want to find out personally...
Also, new amiibo for the system, but that went so quickly I couldn't get any details written down
For full disclosure, I have a pre-order of Mario Kart 8 from family relatives, but I have not spent money on it. Mario Kart8 has 11 players online, which is weird since its normally 12 players online mode.
If you're playing with friends, then you can customise the rules quite a bit, and tournament mode has now been built into the game, making it seem more like Nintendo want it to become an e-sport. are a thing too
Ultra Street fighter 2 is being re-released for the switch with 19 fighters, but I'm not certain if this is more, less, or the same amount of characters. some weird person also decided that a first person mode that uses motion controls would be a good thing, so that's in the game, along with this, you don't have to remember Combo's at all for the portable mode, with on-screen buttons, (opinion) which is stupid since street fighter is all about executing ridiculous combo's.
Minecraft wanting more money is now getting a Nintendo switch verson, that allows an 8 player multiplayer mode, which is cute compared to the Java version, but this does also allow local co-op of 4 players, so you have that at least. It's getting a Mario skin pack as DLC, out may 12 e-shop, later for physical.
sonic forces - a shit 3d one that looks dark and gritty, that has old and new sonic in it, winter this year.
sonic mania -a good fan version that looks awesome, summer this year
project mekuru looks weird, good weird though, has a bomber man feel in its gameplay, releases this summer.
fate Extella for  July 21'st, hate to say it but it kinda looks like a generic JRPG :/
Disgaea 5, has a demo to be released soon, release date may 26th, ill have to give that a look at, since anything that has a demo must be tried, seriousialy, its the one thing that i want devlopers to get back onto.
Puyo Puyo Tetris is amazing, I've played it, you have to try the demo from the JP e-shop if you can, don't go for the UK one, the voice actors just fall flat. it's coming to the EU soon, if you don't have a switch or another console to play it, this is why you need the switch. The demo is out now
monopoly for the switch, because you haven't hated your family over this game enough already Autumn 2017
Rayman legends: definitive edition, it's a 2d platformer, and you could have gotten it previously for free on PC, but this now has more DLC. out sometime this year
THQ Nordic are alive, apparently, i thought they died along with the hope of another good Saints Row. Sine Mora EX, its a 2d bullet hell game so im not touching that (unles it has a demo) to be released sometime this summer. battle chaser night war looks more interesting however, releaseing late summer.
PayDay 2 for switch, because if you've not played it yet, your me and you really should have, releasing sometime this year.
Namco museum: a glorified emulator for the console, probably not worth buying since you could find the rom files online, summer 2017.
change of pace now whilst i focous on somthing that works on a lot more meaty.
This first big block is Arms, if you don't care, skip the first, long, paragraph.
Apparently, you can customise the arms in Arms, as if we didn't already know this, it does, however, reveal that each arm has an element. fire, electricity, wind, ice, stun, explosion, and more I couldn't read quick enough. It also shows that in the game, you can use currency to unlock the different types of arms. this doesn't appear to be real world money, and I don't think that Nintendo would do that, but I still don't like the idea of unlocks in an arcade game. We have a new character called Mminmin, who is based on noodles, no, seriously. if that wasn't weird enough, she has an ability, where she can kick people in a boxing game... quick question, why? why did that seem like a good idea at all? doesn't that kinda defeat the whole point of it being a boxing game? wait, she has dragon arms that shoot lasers? all is forgiven. Spring Man is a new person (i think) who has permanently charge punches IF he has low health. he also has an electric shield for very quick deflects of almost anything. and coming back to Minmin, she has an area based off of her, it's a massive ramen bowl... no comment. we also have team battles for a 2V2 mode, because everybody can afford 4 pairs of Joy-Con's, clearly. speaking of Joy-Con's there's a bundle that contains the console, the game, and a set of yellow Joy-Con's, that look like a set of slightly off bananas. and if you just couldn't get enough Switch action, there releasing a Joy-Con battery pack, which is odd since I personally have never had to worry about the battery for the Joy-Con's at all, I will say that I have been charging them and the console overnight every night, so that may be why I've not been having any problems. The full release date for the game, the bundle, and the Banana-Con's (yes that's what I'm calling them) is June 16.
And now for the reason im here: splatoon 2, its not as long but still substatial, if you dont care, thats it for this article for you, good bye ^^ otherwise, onto splatoon 2, the main reason I wanted a switch at all.
we start with a with a weird trailer, that has the music of a discounted Toys R Us instrument set. Feeles like its from the 80's in a parody way. the main purpos of the trailer is to introduce "Salmon Run", a wave based PVE mode, which had me in full caps in my notes, accompined by a ":DDDDD" or 2. the main purpos is to kill the enimies to get power eggs, which is your form of in game currency that can be spent on the splatoon shop for cosmetics. keep on going however, and bosses will appear, these drop golden eggs that too can be exchanged for items. if you have bad players in your team, and they die, then you can revive them by walking over to get them back. The game adds in 3 new Amiibo, that allow people to save custom data to for clothing, but the old splatoon Amiibo's will also work. the game, the Amiibo will be released on July 21st.
