PROLOGUE — THE SOUL (Ghost x GN!Reader)
the soul masterlist
summary; laswell is providing you one possible last chance. will you waste it? callsign used is maverick.
[WARNINGS; anxiety, slight paranoia, slight angst.]
The blood in your head rushes underneath your skin as you stare blankly at the floor, sitting uncomfortably on a too-harsh, poorly produced plastic chair that’s digging into your sit bones, your hands on your knees with a slight grip on your kneecaps. A low, uneasy rumbling sensation grows in your gut; it's deadly silent, the exception being the clock up on the wall. Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock, Tick—
You don’t jolt when the door opens with the click, but your right index finger lifts for just a moment. You don’t look up either, swallowing harshly as the figure approaches you with light footsteps. The muscles in your shoulders and neck twitch and slowly begin to tense up, a slight ache developing already as your fingers dig into your kneecaps as an attempt to settle rolling thunder in your stomach. A pair of dark brown leather women’s loafers come into view, your eyes studying the shiny material for a moment.
“Maverick.” Laswell speaks firmly, her voice low and serious. There’s a bite of irritation coming from her—a word of warning, almost. You bite down onto your lower lip for a moment, your upper canine tooth sinking in as you lower your shoulders, however they aren’t any less tense than since the first moment you stepped into this room. Your eyes move from her loafers up her dark gray dress pants, up her white dress shirt and finally focusing in on her face. Laswell’s eyebrows are furrowed together, a wrinkle in the middle of them, her eyes narrowed. You can see the corner of her lip is curled a bit upwards. Her bun is nearly perfect, her bangs sitting beautifully across her forehead.
“Laswell.” You echo easily, your voice low in your throat. Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.
Your eyes flicker down to the manila folder in her hands, multiple packets and mismatched papers stuffed into it. Your eyes squint for a moment with recognition; your file.
“You already know what I’m going to say, aren’t you?” Laswell questions, a hint of exhaustion her words—you can’t care enough to decipher if it’s because of you or not right now. Your eyes flicker back down to the waxed floor to where her feet are. Your hands let go of your kneecaps, instead letting yourself lean your forearms down on your thighs and partially onto your knees. Your hands hang between your legs, your back bent down with your head looking down. “Yeah.” You utter, feeling the tension in the air thickening by the second.
Of course you know why you’re here. You always know why, because it’s your own doing. Being called into Laswell’s office—or asked.. More like commanded to answer her phone calls—is practically a hobby for you by this point. You could recite the lectures you’ve gotten like the way a bad yet catchy song is something you find yourself singing to yourself. One part of you is amused with how you haven’t been discharged yet. How haven’t you been is one part miracle, another part devastating. For you or the people around you, you cannot quite tell yet.
“You have a problem, Maverick. We need to fix this.”
You nearly snort, leaning back upwards with one forearm on your leg, your palm grabbing your other knee. “Like I don’t know it.” You mutter, your voice a bit gritty from how low you speak. Laswell makes a displeased noise, her eyebrows tightening together. “This isn’t funny.” Laswell says firmly, her tone stern and unmoving. “I’m not laughing.” You easily retort, your face tightening for a hot moment. You’re both silent, almost like you’re in an unofficial staring contest until Laswell mutters something unintelligible, leaning back against her desk and putting your fat file on the top of some other papers. “I need you to listen to me,” She begins, putting a palm on her knee, smoothing out her dress pant-leg. “They’re considering letting you go.”
That gets your attention right quick. Letting me go? You think to yourself, letting your facial features do the talking for you. Laswell lip twitches, her fingers brushing across her bangs to “fix” them. She’s stressed. “..They need me.” You say slowly, your gaze watching her much closer now, trying to read every part of her body language. “Yes, they do, and I’m trying to do everything I can for you.” Laswell avows, her tone stressing her words. Her fingers twitch where they rest on her knee before she pushes herself back to a proper standing position, her hands in the front of her. Your heart tightens in your chest for a second as you watch Laswell struggle to find her words.
“Look.” Laswell sighs out, her voice serious as you make eye contact with her once again. “I can try—I’m not saying I can, but I’m saying I might be able to provide you one last chance.” Laswell presses her lips together for a moment, silence overtaking everything between you and her. “You are aware of what this means, right?”
You almost want to laugh in her face; how could you not know? Instead, you offer a more polite response—a simple nod.
“I’m serious, Maverick. I’ve tried to pull every single goddamn string I have, all for you. They want you gone.”
Ouch.
“I get it.”
You press the heels of your hands into your eyes until pain prickles at the corners of the nerves in your eyes and you see stars, as well as colors. You inhale deeply, painfully aware of how much space air takes up in your lungs, aware of the way your chest expands until you slowly exhale. You sit up straighter than before, putting your palms back on your kneecaps, lifting your head to look at the woman in front of you. “I get it.” You repeat, quieter this time, but not any more soft than before.
Laswell’s eyes scream doubt. They scream disbelief, anger, worry, and burning determination. “I already sent your file over to your last chance. I’m begging you to straighten yourself out, Maverick.”
You only offer a shrug, your mind struggling to comprehend what this could mean for you. You’ve thought of this moment for months—over a year by this point, honestly. Now that it’s finally here, you aren’t really sure what to make of it all yet.
One last chance. Maybe.

A Discovery of Witches Season 2: A Darker, Richer Narrative
If you thought A Discovery of Witches was just another fantasy romp with a bit of historical flair, buckle up for Season 2—this ride gets delightfully more treacherous. Based on Deborah Harkness’s All Souls Trilogy, the show kicked off with a seductive blend of magic, academia, and some good old-fashioned supernatural skullduggery. But with its sophomore season, it doesn’t just dip its toes into darkness—it dives headfirst into the murky waters of power struggles, betrayal, and Elizabethan angst. The result? A more prosperous, textured narrative that wraps around you like a cloak on a chilly London night, refusing to let go.
Power and Betrayal: The Core of Season 2
This season isn’t content with picking up where the first left off—it’s a full-blown transformation. Power dynamics take center stage; with stakes so high, you’ll need a ladder to catch your breath. In a world where every glance, whisper, and seemingly innocuous gesture could be a precursor to betrayal, the relentless pursuit of control gives the season its teeth. Whether safeguarding ancient secrets or simply trying to survive another day, the characters are pushed to their limits, leaving you glued to the screen, wondering who will crack under the pressure first.
From Modernity to Mystery: The Haunting Atmosphere of Elizabethan London
Say goodbye to the sleek, modern settings of Season 1—this time, we’re strolling through the gritty, shadow-laden streets of Elizabethan London. The production design team has outdone themselves, crafting an environment where every alleyway feels like it’s hiding something sinister. With dim lighting and claustrophobic sets, the atmosphere is laced with palpable tension. It’s a visual feast that perfectly complements the season’s darker tone, making you feel like danger lurks around every corner—and honestly, it probably does.
A Walk Through Time: The Immersive Historical Detail
For the history buffs out there, Season 2 is a love letter to the past, filled with all the pomp and peril you’d expect from the era. The Elizabethan setting isn’t just a backdrop; it’s a living, breathing character in its own right. Every detail pulls you deeper into this world, from the meticulously crafted costumes to the period-accurate architecture. This historical immersion doesn’t just serve the aesthetics—it enriches the entire narrative, grounding the fantastical elements in a world that feels as real as your own. Unless you know something we don’t, except for the witches and vampires?
The Dark Evolution of Matthew Clairmont
Matthew Clairmont’s past comes back to haunt him with a vengeance, and Matthew Goode’s performance is captivating. He expertly navigates the fine line between restrained intensity and explosive emotion, bringing the character to life with smoldering intensity and magnetic terror. It’s a masterclass in understated menace that makes for some compelling viewing.
Love and Power: The Shifting Dynamics of Matthew and Diana
The relationship between Matthew and Diana remains the beating heart of the series, but in Season 2, it’s fraught with tension from external threats and an evolving power struggle. Diana is no longer the hesitant scholar we met in Season 1—she’s coming into her own, challenging Matthew in ways that shake the foundations of their relationship. The patriarchal backdrop of Elizabethan society adds another layer of complexity, making their love story as much about power as it is about passion. It’s a push and pull that keeps the drama sizzling, and you’ll find yourself invested in every charged exchange.
Blending Fact with Fiction: Historical Figures in the Plot
One of the season’s most delightful tricks is its seamless blending of historical figures with its fictional narrative. Queen Elizabeth I and Christopher Marlowe are more than name-drops—they’re integral to the plot, adding a layer of authenticity that enriches the story. Their interactions with Matthew and Diana aren’t just for show; they’re pivotal to the unfolding drama, offering some of the season’s most electrifying moments. This blending of fact and fiction grounds the supernatural elements in history and sets the series apart from other contemporary fantasy offerings.
A Delicate Balance: Romance and the Supernatural
A Discovery of Witches has always balanced romance with its supernatural elements, and Season 2 is no different. The romantic tension between Matthew and Diana is as intoxicating as ever, but it never overshadows the show’s broader mythos. Instead, the romance enhances the narrative, adding an emotional depth that complements the dark intrigue at the heart of the plot. It’s a careful dance between the heart and the supernatural, and the show pulls it off with aplomb.
Star Performances: Matthew Goode and Teresa Palmer
Matthew Goode and Teresa Palmer continue to anchor the show with stellar performances. Goode brings Matthew Clairmont to life with a smoldering intensity and magnetic terror, while Palmer’s portrayal of Diana Bishop is a revelation. She embodies the character’s transformation with grace and strength, creating an electric dynamic that crackles with every scene. The supporting cast also shines, each actor bringing something unique to the table, further enriching the narrative’s tapestry.
A Visual Feast: The Cinematic Brilliance of Season 2
Visually, Season 2 is a triumph. The cinematography is nothing short of cinematic, with each shot meticulously crafted to enhance the story’s mood and tone. The interplay of light and shadow, the rich color palettes, and the precise camera angles all work harmoniously to create a world that is as visually compelling as it is narratively rich. It’s the kind of show where you could pause at any moment and find a frame worthy of hanging on your wall—a testament to the care and craft that’s gone into every aspect of its production.
Fan and Critic Reactions: Embracing the Darker Narrative
Season 2 has struck a chord with fans and critics alike. The darker, more intricate narrative has been widely praised, with many appreciating the show’s boldness in deepening its themes and expanding its world. The shift to the gritty realism of Elizabethan London has been a particular highlight, adding a fresh dynamic that keeps the series from stagnating. Critics have lauded the show for its character development, atmospheric tension, and historical detail, solidifying its place as a standout in the fantasy genre. It’s a season that doesn’t just continue the story—it elevates it, pushing the boundaries of what a fantasy series can be.
Building on a Solid Foundation: How Season 2 Outshines the First
While Season 1 laid the groundwork, Season 2 takes it to new heights. The progression in tone, plot, and character arcs is evident in every frame, with the creators intent on building something more ambitious and complex. The historical setting, darker themes, and more intense character dynamics contribute to a fresh yet familiar season—a continuation of the story, but one willing to take risks and challenge its audience in new ways.
Delving into Darkness: The Weight of Season 2
The thematic weight of Season 2 is undeniable. It’s not just a stylistic shift—it’s a narrative evolution that delves into the darker corners of its characters’ psyches and the world they inhabit. The exploration of power, betrayal, and control resonates deeper, making the stakes feel higher and the choices more consequential. This isn’t just about good versus evil—it’s about survival, legacy, and lengths to protect what one loves. It’s a season that engages the heart and the mind, leaving you pondering its themes long after the credits roll.
Season 2’s Triumph: A Captivating Blend of Fantasy and History
Ultimately, Season 2 of A Discovery of Witches is a triumph. It’s a masterful blend of fantasy and history, romance and intrigue, all wrapped up in a visually stunning package. The darker, richer narrative pulls you in and refuses to let go, offering an experience as intellectually stimulating as it is emotionally engaging. Whether you’re here for the history, the romance, or the supernatural spectacle, Season 2 delivers on all fronts, leaving you eagerly awaiting what the series has in store next.

The chemistry between Price and the reader was off the charts — and I’m ALWAYS a slut for a good witty character that surpasses their time. Honestly. This is so well-written and perfectly drawn out. And bitch? This is ONE FIC. ONE. I’m hooked. I’m absolutely positive I will be adding more to this rec list from this author, so stay tuned for that. Smut: ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Personal Notes: Absolutely in love. I’m not usually a huge fan of the whole kidnapping dynamic because the characters are usually placed in a harsh setting — but putting the characters in a setting where they are (moderately) comfortable?? Ate this shit up. I absolutely adore that the Pet Play dynamic wasn’t overdone, but just the right amount. Girl, the smut is top-fucking-tier — heavy on dom/sub dynamics, everyone is satisfied all around. I genuinely am in love with the premise of this fic and the way it’s written. And the cliffhanger we’re left with in the last update?? Things are about to get A LOT more interesting between the characters, and I’m excited to see the way the author explores it. 25/10, a HUGE rec.

Smut: ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Personal Notes: I fucking love the premise of this fic. TF141 as a construction crew?? Reader is the surveyor?? (I forgot the proper name, don’t judge). Simon being brooding and mysterious as ever?? Simon being down bad?? LIKE BAD?? The way the author wrote him has me OBSESSED. Oh my god. Just the banter and the chemistry between him and the reader has me hooked. This is such a sweet treat of a fic that I will have to keep indulging in.

Come to bed Trigger warnings for PTSD, mentions of war, torture, winter solider stuff etc. Bucky Barnes x F Reader Chapter 1/3 4600 words fluff, angst, comfort. 18+ MDNI Sometimes you go months without this happening, and sometimes it's too cold.
Y/N curls over in the bed, arms reaching out, still half drenched in sleep as she searches for the body that’s usually tightly pressed against her. All she finds is cold sheets- the absence of him jars her awake, eyes blinking in the dark as she shifts over into the empty space.
“Bucky?”
When no reply comes, she finds herself squinting at the bathroom, the door is open a crack, but no light is coming from inside. It’s dark. She turns to her night stand and sees her clock ticking slowly, it’s 3am, it’s winter, and it’s pitch black outside.
Worry bites at her core.
“Bucky?” she tries again, her voice gritty with sleep, “Where-”
Her hands slip down past the edge of the bed, she’s searching for the switch on the wall that might bring some light into the space, but she freezes when she feels a warm body beneath her palm.
“Sweetheart”
The man is kneeling on the ground, back stiff against the mattress, head hanging forwards towards his legs. He doesn’t reply to her voice, or to her touch. He stays still, unmoving and silent, even as she drags her body across the sheets so that she’s closer to him, so that she can run her hands across his arm without stretching.
“Come to bed-” Y/N coos, trying not to startle him “’s too cold to stay down there.”
Cold is an understatement. It’s mid November, and the air is frosty, despite the way the heat has been cranked up all month.
Bucky shifts a little, her calm tone bringing him out of his half-unconscious daze. He doesn’t know why he’s on the floor. He doesn’t know why he hadn’t slipped under the covers, when he’d first come up to their room, 7 hours ago.
“…It’s, it’s too cold.”
Y/N feels her brow furrow at his words. At the way he’s repeating her own, with a voice that’s confused, and cracking, and quiet.
“I know” she agrees, “Come here, Buck- Let’s warm you up”
His head moves slowly, like he’s scared of what he might see when he finally stops staring down at the gap between his thighs.
Soft hands are on his neck, they’re slipping round to his chest, and he can’t help but lean into them, into the heat of them.
“Warm me up?”
That sounds like a question, or a request- It makes her chest ache tightly, especially when he finally starts to move, whole body curling round so that he can face her from his knees.
His eyes are wide, he’s staring at her from behind strands of hair.
She nods, reaching over to stroke his cheek.
Bucky flinches, like he’s expecting a slap, like he’s expecting anything other than his lovers palm providing comfort against his face.
Her heart breaks, as he shivers against her, barely daring to move now that he’s facing her.
“Nobodies going to hurt you, solider” she promises calmly, “do you know where you are?”
His brow tightens again, he squints before shaking his head a fraction.
“I-it happens, sometimes-” Y/N hears him confess, “-I- I can’t remember.”
She nods in the dark, hand dropping to his chest again.
“That’s alright.”
“Do you require a mission report?” his tight voice asks- she can’t help but think he sounds awfully nervous, especially when his gaze flicks down to the ground, again.
“No” He hears her reply, “You’ve done well, I know you have, don’t worry ‘bout that.”
He seems to like that. He relaxes a fraction, he breathes a little more deeply, despite the way he’s still fighting the urge to tremble from the cold.
“Come here” Y/N insists, patting the mattress that’s close to his face, “It’s alright.”
Bucky blinks suspiciously at the covers, it feels like a trick. He’s not supposed to use things like that, but the woman who’s talking to him feels safe. She feels familiar, and she- she must be his handler, she’s the only other person here- he doesn’t want to disobey.
She tilts her head as he shuffles forwards on the ground, pressing his chin against the spot where her hand had been just a few second before.
He looks at her hopefully.
It’s so endearing that she can’t help but smile, even though her heart is breaking in her chest.
It’s like he’s a frightened animal, like he’s a cornered stray that’s torn between running and being well behaved in the hopes of getting fed.
She knows he’s scared, deep down. She knows he’s cold, and more than a little lost.
Her hands snake out slowly, so he won’t mistake her as a threat.
He tenses as her fingers card his hair back, away from his face. He bends with the movement, until his whole cheek is flush against the bed, his eyes still trained on hers.
“You’re very cold” Y/N muses quietly, “You’re not dressed, you should come to bed.”
Bucky stays silent. He is cold. He’s very cold, and he is undressed. Scars throb across the surface of his skin, the usually soft carpet is harsh against his knees.
He doesn’t know why he’s wearing what he is. He doesn’t know how long he’s been poised on the ground anymore.
It’s not his concern. He does what he’s told. That’s all he knows for sure.
Y/N pulls back the sheets, knowing he needs something firmer than a suggestion.
“Come on” she tells him softly, “Lie down here for me.”
That’s an order.
His joints scream as he finally unfolds, as he stands in the dark.
Y/N looks up at the looming silhouette, before she moves over to give him enough space to sit down beside her.
“Here?”
He’s glancing at the bed like it’s dangerous. Like it’s going to harm him somehow.
“Mhmm” she hums calmly, “Here.”
Bucky is terrified as he obeys. As he lets himself lie flat on the soft, padded surface.
He’s stiff, it’s unnatural, and his back is aching from the sudden change in position.
Heavy fabric sheets cover his front, they’re warm, and they smell like lavender, they smell good, even though he can’t place why.
It’s all very strange.
He swallows bile as he tries his best to not shake- the tension is starting to leave his body, he can feel his muscles twitching, it reminds him of being de-thawed post cryo- it reminds him of waking up in agony, alone and afraid and awaiting instructions.
“Are you comfortable?” Y/N asks carefully, not knowing how else to phrase the question, “do you need anything?”
“I…” The soldier hears himself start to reply, “I don’t need anything.”
His voice is soft, it’s breathy and unstable.
Y/N turns over to face him, she can barely make out his features, with the way he’s looking up at the ceiling, but she knows his eyes are open, she knows his brow is tight.
“Are you comfortable?” she asks again, “speak freely, solider.”
Bucky inhales before he tenses, again.
“No, ma’am” he whispers, “I’m in pain.”
Her heart shatters. Her chest is tight, tears sting behind her eyes.
“Where?” she asks him gently, “where are you in pain?”
He’s nervous. He knows he has no choice but to answer, and answer honestly, but it’s dangerous. People who ask him about his physical condition, about his injuries, or how he’s feeling usually do so with bad intentions. With mockery or the desire to worsen his situation, somehow.
“… Everywhere.”
Oh, god.
Y/N takes a second to reign herself back in, too push back against the hollow sickness that’s settled in her core.
“Come here?” she murmurs, “Come closer, please.”
Panic rushes over Bucky’s chest. His metal arm tenses, the plates sliding down to lock together with a dull mechanical thud.
It’s going to happen. They’re going to hurt him, again. He shouldn’t have said anything, he shouldn’t have moved.
Disobedience has never been worth the risk, though, and he knows better than to question things. He knows that makes it worse.
He locks his jaw, he readies himself for, well, anything really.
Y/N watches him roll onto his side to face her. His eyes are screwed shut. He’s cradling his own chest in a way that is totally protective.
“Look at me” she requests quietly, “I’m not going to hurt you.”
I’m not going to hurt you.
He’s heard that before. He’s heard it being said to him, with malice and venom more often than he can count. But this is different.
Blue eyes blink open, and even in the dark she can see the remnants of something traumatised behind them, she can see something caged and frightened hiding in his gaze, and even with the way he’s gritting his teeth, she can see the way he’s trying not to ask for mercy.
“I’m not going to hurt you” he hears her repeat, with the same earnest kindness as before, “I promise.”
Bucky’s nostrils are flaring as he fights to inhale and exhale.
I’m not going to hurt you. I’m not going to hurt you. I’m not going to hurt you.
The air is icy in his lungs. It’s burning the back of his throat. His skin is still throbbing.
“Can you show me?” Y/N whispers carefully, reaching out to where his metal hand is locked around his own rib cage, “can you show me where it hurts the most?”
He can’t ignore her. He can’t pull his eyes away from hers- there’s something about her face he likes, there’s something about her that he trusts, despite every instinct he has imploring him to not.
Slowly, his arm moves, vibranium fingers hover by her hand, and they stay there, until she bringers her palm over and above them.
He guides their hands down, first, to his knees.
They’re on fire. The skin is red-raw and grazed from the time he’s spent like a statue on the floor.
“It’ll heal soon” he offers helpfully, not wanting to earn a punishment for having injured himself, “I don’t stay damaged for long.”
Those words aren’t his own. Y/N knows he’s parroting things he’s heard others saying about him, but she nods anyway, so that he knows that she’s listening, so that he might gain the courage to speak more confidently.
His arm groans as he moves it upwards, leading her hand over to his chest.
There’s a deep set gash there, it’s long healed, now. It’s been decades, since he’d received it, from a punishment somewhere in Siberia.
But it’s pulsing from the cold, every beat of his heart making the pain splinter out from it, cramping the muscles beneath.
He doesn’t linger there long nor does he comment on the nature of the wound- he doesn’t want to explain what he did to earn it, he’s not totally sure he remembers the original transgression anyway, he just knows what the officers he belonged to did, in order to ensure he’d never do it again.
Y/N sighs as he silently reaches over to the scar that is tight against his shoulder.
“Is this the worst?” she asks, already knowing the answer.
Bucky nods, silently.
Please don’t hurt me. Please don’t hurt me. Please don’t hurt me.
He’s panicking, despite the way he’s still. His thoughts are frantic and desperate, and even though he knows better than to ask for leniency out-loud, he can’t help but plead for compassion in his head.
Her hand falls to the tender flesh, and he withdraws his arm with a final, grating whirl.
He cradles his waist again, he braces himself to feel something terrible.
“Oh, sweetheart” Y/N can’t help but sigh, “we need to figure somethin’ out, you’ve gotta’ start sleepin’ with it covered, at least whilst it’s so cold out.”
Bucky feels his brow furrow. He doesn’t know what she means, but he feels like they’ve had this discussion before.
No. He scolds internally. He doesn’t have discussions. He does what he’s told.
“I… I don’t want to?” Y/N hears him ask, voice laced with fear and confusion, “I-I should do what I’m told- I… I should do what you tell me.”
She shakes her head as she flattens her palm out, over the edges of his scar.
He whimpers at her touch. At the heat of her skin against the thin band of skin which is stinging against cold metal plates.
The sound horrifies him. He tightens his jaw, despite the burn it causes. He braces for a slap, he feels his stomach clenching in poorly concealed terror.
“Shhh” Y/N soothes, knowing he’s already regretting the audible expression of pain, “nothings going to hurt you, Bucky, It’s okay.”
He feels a cry trying to erupt past his lips as the woman who’s now close under the covers, presses down against his skin.
All that she hears is a barely there groan, but she can’t help but apologise anyway.
Her fingers are soothing the area with fleeting points of pressure- Her touch is hot, it’s soft and gentle and he can tell from the tentativeness of her movements that she’s not trying to harm him.
It doesn’t make any sense.
He exists to be hurt, to be trained and used and stored.
Why is she being gentle? Why is she being careful? Why is she hushing him so sweetly?
Why? Why? Why?
“You don’t hurt me” Y/N hears him realise, “You… You take care of me?”
She beams at him in the dark. She lets her body inch towards his, again.
Bucky hisses in a breath, the heat from her is nice. It’s tempting, it’s so tempting for him to relax into her hand but he can’t- He can’t let himself move an inch.
“I do” She tells him softly, “and you take care of me.”
The solider feels his head starting to throb, but he’s unsure if it’s just because the pain in his body is fading, leaving room for that to capture his attention.
“I take care of you” Bucky murmurs, looking over at her for the first time since her hand had met his scar, “I take care of you.”
Recognition flickers across his face. It’s uncertain, it’s buried deep, but it’s there.
He looks a fraction less afraid, he lets his teeth unlock, and he allows a gasp to leave his lips as she rubs a particularly tender area at the back of his arm.
Lavender. Bucky thinks he can smell it again, it’s not just on the sheets- it’s in the air around him, it’s, it’s nice- he, he likes it.
“I Like you.” He announces suddenly, eyes trained in on her face.
Y/N feels her chest flutter at his words. She eases up on her massage and lets her free hand roll up, to stroke his cheek.
He’s anxious, but as her palm softens on his face he relaxes into the contact.
It’s for stability, rather than punishment. It’s familiar, and safe and kind.
“I like you, too”
She watches him blink, confused.
“…me?”
“Yeah” he hears her chuckle, quietly, “Yeah, Bucky- You.”
“Bucky?”
“It’s your name, sweetheart.”
The soldier squints, memories prodding at his vision, it sounds right. It is his name. Or it, it was his name, a long time ago.
“It’s my name, now?” He checks, unsurely.
Y/N nods, stroking the deep set bruise under his eye.
“It’s always been your name-” she tells him calmly, “-but, yes, it’s your name now, we're allowed to use it”
He’s unconvinced, but he finds himself leaning into her touch a little more openly. He’s not as afraid of correction anymore, he doesn’t know why, but, he no longer believes that she’d harm him.
“…you like me?” Y/N hears him ask, “…why?”
“because…” she murmurs, leaning across to peck against his brow “you’re lovely.”
He gasps again, this time it’s relieved, it’s light and anxious, and as his eyes drop shut at the affectionate gesture, he can’t help but let his hips move out towards her.
“Do you feel any better?” she wonders, feeling the way that his body is slowly starting to warm up beside her own.
“… ‘m still cold…”
Even Bucky is surprised that he’s been so bold in his admission. It feels dangerously like he’s complaining, like he’s asking for his condition to be worsened in order for him to learn a lesson about gratitude, but before he can worry too much, the woman before him speaks,
“Still?” she whispers, concerned.
He hums gently, barely daring to say anything else. He knows he’s pushing his luck, already.
“Come’ere”
Her hands move across to his back, she guides him in towards her front.
Bucky doesn’t fight, he moves willingly into her arms, he feels his muscles unfurling as she helps him lower his cheek to her chest.
His knees are still stinging, and his scar is angry and throbbing, but as the rest of body gives a pathetic shiver, he can’t help but feel pleased with the way their bodies are now touching, underneath piles of covers.
“…Th-Thank you”
Y/N shakes her head, feeling him reaching out to hold her waist.
They fit together like puzzle pieces. The arrangement is practiced, it’s natural, and Bucky releases that the way his limbs are moving, entangling themselves with her, is almost utterly involuntary.
“It’s alright, sweetheart” she soothes, “You’ll feel better soon, just breathe.”
He nods. He already feels less rigid, less like an object and more like a person, that makes it either for him to obey, to suck deep lungfuls of air in past his lips, before expelling it though his nose.
“This is why” he mumbles, “This is why I don’t want to wear clothes in bed?”
Y/N chuckles silently, she nods, and kisses his head again.
“This is why” she agrees, “But, it’s too cold, Bucky- especially if you’re not always’ gonna be in the bed”
He doesn’t understand.
“Why… why was I out of bed?”
“I don’t know” Y/N tells him honestly, “You were going to follow me in, I guess you fell asleep on the couch.”
“I wasn’t on the couch” He whispers, remembering the way he’d been frozen and still on the floor, “…did, did I do something wrong?”
He’s not even close to being back to himself yet. She knows he’s still teetering on the edge of a strange half-state, and she’s seen him like this before. It’s not really a stretch for her to think, that he might be worried about having been in trouble, especially when she notices the way his back is taught again, shoulder blades pulling together.
“No-” She promises, “You did great, don’t worry”
That settles him a little. He nods, before letting his eyes close, again.
Y/N works at soothing him further, she hugs him, letting her palms snake up to his back, she can feel the pulsing his scars as she traces them, she can feel the pounding of his heart when she stills her palm on his spine.
“what’s your name?” she hears him murmur, voice tainted with self doubt and fear, “do… do you have one?”
He’s asking if he should call her ma’am. Y/N knows he is, she knows he’s risking the consequences, to find out how much liberty he’s allowed to take when addressing her, and that alone makes her hold him tighter to her front.
“Y/N” she whispers, “My name’s Y/N, but you usually call me, doll.”
Doll.
Flashes of her face flicker behind his eyelids. She’s beautiful- She’s smiling- She’s laughing and talking to him- God, his head hurts- it’s throbbing and splintering as he’s bombarded by images of different lifetimes. He sees friends, and a plane, he feels fingers in his hair, and they’re soft and kind, but then suddenly, they’re harsh and they’re tugging him across hard, dirt ground. He’s falling- He’s running- he’s dancing.
He clings to her tighter.
Y/N notices the way he’s starting to pant, she feels the way he’s tensing again as he tries to bury himself into her chest.
Guilt claws at her core, she knows she has to be careful with him when he’s like this. She knows it’s easy to throw him off, when he’s so glaringly vulnerable, and he’s clearly too close to the edge.
“Don’t worry about that” she tells him calmly, “Just get some rest”
Bucky barely hears her.
He’s pining, he’s grasping at memories that are sepia and drenched in loss .
His reality is suddenly malleable, it’s not solid, or definite and he’s terrified.
He doesn’t know where he is, or when, he is or, god, he doesn’t know what he is, anymore.
Being a weapon, seems the most likely, it’s the answer that has had the most enforcement over the years- he’s an asset, a solider, a killer- but, he’s awake, he’s clutched up against Y/N’s chest, she’s hushing him, she’s asking how he’s feeling, and that doesn’t seem right at all.
“I… I’m unstable” he says, “I.. I need to be wiped.”
Y/N screws her eyes shut, she shakes her head and strokes his back, again.
She knows those words aren’t his own, she knows he’s gone back to echoing lines he’s heard being said about himself, but that doesn’t make it any less tragic.
“You need to sleep”
“I…” he grumbles, “…sleep?”
“Yes” Y/N coos, “Bucky, you’re tired, you need to sleep.”
His brow creases, he’s less cold now, his body is flush against hers, and he can feel the way she’s stroking his skin. It’s nice. He feels like maybe he stands a chance at being safe, for a while.
“I was sleeping” he realises slowly, memories of himself, sprawled out on a soft surface, tucked under a thin blanket snaking out into his consciousness, “I- I was on the couch.”
“That’s fine” Y/N is quick to assure him, “You can sleep where you want”
“I… I woke up” she hears him continue, “I… I had a bad dream”
It’s suddenly very clear. Bucky remembers being thrown out onto the snow covered ground. He remembers the feeling of boots colliding with his jaw, with his ribs, and his chest and his throat. He remembers crying, and begging, but no sound leaving his lips, until he was suddenly sat upright and sweating alone in a dark room.
Was it a dream? He hopes it was, or is this the dream?
He shakes his head, he huffs out a breath and tries to assure himself that he’s okay, that he’s not going to wake up and find himself locked in a room, or strapped to a chair with his mouth wired shut to stop him from making a sound.
“Sweetheart” Y/N coos, unable to hold back the sympathy in her voice at the thought of the man she loves waking up alone and afraid in the adjacent room, “It’s okay, you’re home now-”
“Home?-” he questions, as quiet as a breath, “-I-I have a home?”
Her mouth opens to answer him, but the words die in her throat. She can’t bring herself to try and explain to him that he’s forgotten about the life they’ve built, she can’t stomach the thought of him not believing that it’ll all come back to him soon.
She nods, silently, and kisses the top of his head, inhaling the smell of his shampoo, as she urges herself to stay calm, to remember that this isn’t even close to the first time his memory has slipped like this.
“I’ve upset you?” He asks suddenly, his head pulling back a little so that he can see her face, “Doll”
She doesn’t try and stop him from staring at her face, she just tilts her head as he brings flesh fingers up to cup her cheek.
Affection and recognition surge through his body, the second his skin meets hers. He gasps quietly, as understanding mixes with the aforementioned emotions leaving his head reeling as he fights to piece together the events of the night. Nothing fits together properly, yet, but at least now he knows that it will. He’s been through this before, and every time he has, the fact that the woman he loves has been holding him when he comes round is unchanged.
He can’t help but think she looks sad, and that breaks his heart.
“No… No, Bucky, Don’t worry about that, I’m not upset, it’s okay-”
Her voice is quiet, but stable. He’s still watching her, fingers tracing the outline of her face in the darkness of the room.
“…Did… Did I forget you, doll?”
Y/N blinks, surprised and watches him chew his lower lip whilst he waits for her response.
“I don’t know” she tells him honestly, “I don’t think so, not, not completely.”
He nods, lowering his hand to her neck.
“I remember you now” Bucky promises, “I love you.”
Y/N smiles, she exhales long and slow and reaches over to guide his head back down to her body.
“I love you too” she mumbles, when he finally relaxes back into position, a mild tremor wracking his chest at the adjustment “Are you still cold?”
“a little”
That confession makes her brow crease unhappily, she knows how fragile his mind can be, she knows how hard he’s trying.
“We need to let Tony look at the plumbin’” she murmurs, reaching out of the cocoon of their blankets to pull them closer towards his neck, “we’ve got the only suite in the tower that stays this cold in the winter- it's because we're so high up.”
“I- I don’t wanna’ bother him” he murmurs, even though he’s not totally certain of why, “I- I don’t want to ask him to look?”
He’s asking, now. Y/N knows he’s unsure. So she nods, reaching down to touch his skin again. “You don’t have to” she says, “I’m going to ask.”
“Now?” he bursts, clearly concerned, “please don’t go—“
“No, sweetheart. Tomorrow.”
Bucky gulps at that, at the kind woman’s assurance, and the renewed feeling of her fingers tracing lines across his spine.
“Well-” Y/N amends, “-Later today.”
The man that she’s cradling stays silent for a while after that. He’s still, too, and he seems content with his position, until he shifts a little, nose bumping against her collar bones as he tries to gain her attention,
“you okay?-” she asks, voice groggy from the way she’d almost slipped back down into sleep, “-you need somethin’?”
Bucky makes himself inhale. He tries to draw strength from the certainty he has in regards to his feelings for her, as he readies himself to speak.
“… Do, Do I have permission to stay here?”
“Bucky” Y/N coos, “Of course you do”
He sniffs, he nods, and stays still. The confidence in her answer is strange to him, but he’s grateful all the same. He’s grateful to be allowed to remain in her arms, for as long as he can.
“You know you don’t have to ask me for permission, right?”
Bucky’s eyes screw shut, he shakes his head a little, he doesn’t know, he realises, he doesn’t know that at all.
“‘m sorry” he croaks, “I-I don’t, I- I don’t know anythin’ other than you, I- I know I love you, Y/N- I remember you, and- and - I- I”
She hushes him softly, drawing him back down into her embrace.
“Okay” he hears her whisper, breath warm against his brow, “That’s okay.”
“It-It, I- I’m not sure ‘bout anythin”
Y/N nods at his admission, she knows how jarring this must be.
“‘bout anythin’ other than you”
“Well” she coos, “that’s alright, because ‘m not goin’ anywhere, and we’ll sort the rest out once you’ve gotten some rest.”

Happy birthday to the one and only @writcraft! I know you probably feel this year hasn’t been as productive as you’d like fandom-wise, so this is both a reminder and a token of appreciation, a short rec list that hopes to highlight a little bit of your immense contribution to fandom. This is ofc 100% self-indulgent and my picks might be a bit too obvious - I doubt that anyone who’s been around for a while hasn’t heard of these classics before, but those who are new to the fandom (or just new to Writ’s works - I’m so jealous!) might enjoy this “starter pack” with my personal selection of must-reads.
There’s a little bit of everything: Drarry, Snarry, femslash, dark fic, kinky fic, angst with a happy ending, romcom, hurt/comfort. No matter the tone or trope, they’re not only perfectly thought out and executed but they also deliver profound human experiences that resonates within, and thought-provoking explorations of romance, queerness and hope. I have often wondered how Writ could be so prolific over the years, always impressing me with such flawless depth of characterization across different ships. Now I realize this comes from the amount of passion and research they pour into their work. Writ commits to fandom - and to writing - both intellectually and emotionally, bringing together their creative, fannish, militant and intellectual sides like nobody else can do. This combination breathes life and heart into every love story they create, making them all bright and unique, inspiring universal emotions while remaining deeply personal.
Writ, I cannot thank you enough for being such a kind, witty and welcoming friend, always up to discuss fandom meta, gritty fic plots, old and new ship obsessions, dog parenting, queer & pop culture references! I learn so much from you and it’s a privilege (and a delight) to have someone to share both silly and deep, insightful convos with. Becoming friends with you - an author I’ve been admiring and looking up to for so many years now - still feels a bit surreal but it’s easily one of the best parts of 2022/2023 for me. I hope you enjoy your day to the fullest, and have an amazing time celebrating with yours. Happy birthday my friend! 💜

⛓️ Dirty Little Secret (E, 22k) - Drarry
When someone threatens Harry’s life, Kingsley decides to send him to a safe house with only Draco Malfoy for company. As the two men are forced together, memories of the past resurface and secrets are discovered.
🥐 A Life Worth Remembering (E, 23k) - Drarry + Snape

🚘 Harry Potter and The Bisexual Awakening (E, 23k) - Drarry
Harry is perfectly content being single, heterosexual and living in Godric's Hollow with his very clingy rescue dog, Snitch. When Draco Malfoy turns up on Harry's doorstep demanding that Harry teach him how to drive, things quickly become a lot more complicated.
⌛️ Collapse Amongst the Dying Stars (M, 26k) - Drarry
After the final battle nothing is quite as Harry expected. Death Eaters remain unaccounted for, Malfoy is in prison and there is something rotten in Azkaban.
💋 The Beating of This Fragile Heart (E, 33k) - Snarry
After the war, the last thing Severus Snape needs is the memory of a fleeting wartime kiss and a very persistent Harry Potter thwarting his plans to live a peaceful and solitary life.

🏳️🌈 Little Compton Street verse (E, 150k) - Drarry, Sirius/James, Minerva/Will
Draco is lonely, Harry hates the press and it won’t stop raining in London. Harry discovers a magical street that’s close to disappearing forever and Draco realises he’s one rainy night in Soho away from finding everything he’s been searching for.

Hi, you can call me Storm! I'm 30 and the mom of a loud and demanding cat ❤️
I’m a multiple paragraphs/novella style writer. I love to write detailed descriptions and delve into a character’s head/emotions as well as surroundings. I compare it to writing a novel together. Not every reply has to be novella length, however. If there are action or dialogue heavy scenes, I tend to do a shorter back and forth to keep the momentum going.
I only do MxF (with me writing the female role). I don’t double, but I’m more than happy to write side characters of either gender to help move the story along. I only want female authors writing male characters as I’m uncomfortable with cis male authors. (Nonbinary pals are an exception).
I'm really hoping to find a friendship, someone who can add to our story, and most importantly, someone who wants a long-term connection. It's difficult for me to write with someone if I don't feel that genuine bond. It's also important to me to have a high level of activity, with at least one reply a day.
If you suddenly stop replying ic and ooc, I'll drop the story after 2 attempts of gauging interest spaced a week apart. But feel free to message me if you want to pick the story back up again, even months later.
Searching For:
21+ partners only
An excellent grasp of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and capitalization. (Literate to advanced writers only, please. I'm not looking for newbies)
Plot before smut. While mature themes will be in my writing, there needs to be chemistry between our characters. I normally do a 60/40 plot to smut ratio and my characters tend to be subs/switches depending on the circumstances
An older male character (early forties to mid-late fifties). I love the gruff and tough men with dark pasts who secretly have a soft heart. I also love grumpy, hypermasculine men being intimidated by sweet but fiery women. My characters are mid-late twenties to early-mid thirties so the age gap is legal.
I'm not looking for age play. It's a romance between two consenting adults who each act exactly their age, and they just happen to be different ages.
Enthusiasm to chat about our character and ship, how to crush them and then gushing over fluffy moments. I love crying over characters and what the heck they’re doing. I want my heart ripped from my chest from angst, then feeling like it’s going to burst from overwhelming cuteness. I want us to love these characters and the world we create. I want to make pinterest boards, spotify playlists, graphics, and toss headcanons back and forth until late at night.
Have an idea for a scene? Found a picture that inspired you? Send it to me! Be invested when it comes to plotting/worldbuilding. There’s nothing worse than receiving one sentence in reply to two paragraphs of ideas, or having a doormat partner who says “sure” to whatever I ask. Building ideas one on top of the other, watching them snowball into amazing plot threads brings me joy. But having to pull plot ideas like I’m pulling teeth makes me think you’re not interested, and I will lose interest in return.
Interests:
Modern fantasy, monsters, sci-fi, omegaverse, southern gothic/midwest gothic (i’m a sucker for that southern/texas drawl), horror, height/size difference, enemies to lovers, slow burn romance, spooky small towns, post apocalyptic/dystopia, crime/mysteries, emotionally charged/dark and gritty, forced proximity, opposites attract, fated mates, anti heroes/morally gray characters, traumatic pasts, grumpy x sunshine, touch her / him and die, and more.
I have lots of original plot ideas in mind as well!

agent SEO SUNHWA has volunteered as a SCOUT in division four. they are 31 years old and resemble LEE JOOBIN of the good ol’ days. think they used to be a DISASTER RECOVERY SPECIALST FOR KOREAN RED CROSS back then, too. pity those days are over now. they’re a little NEUROTIC, but with their COMPASSION, they’re sure to make a fine addition to the unit. good luck and godspeed, soldier.
well hello hello everyone ! you can call me raroo and I'm so excited to join this rp and write with you (been waiting for a zombie themed rp again for a hot minute!!) !! I bring you my muse, sunhwa, a former korea red cross worker and kdr agent who has become jaded and pessimistic due to seeing how the kdr treated its fellow people during and after the outbreak. I don't have pages up yet but I hope to work on those today and tomorrow and get them up asap. in the mean time, under the read more I'll do a quick bio and some wanted plots! just click that little heart in the bottom corner and I'll come to bother you with plots. discord is available upon request!?
sis grew up the only daughter of a wealthy family and all their regrets and expectations were piled on her so she was in a thousand activities and doing the most constantly.
it worked out for the best as she got into yonsei university and graduated in 2015.
her first job had her dealing with the sewol ferry tragedy and needless to say it shook her and cemented in her that corruption couldn't be tolerated, especially if it was to benefit the haves at the risk of the have nots.
her job for the korean red cross saw her getting folded into the kdr leading up to the outbreak to try and mitigate disaster. needless to say it didn't go as planned and now everything is shit.
she hoped the kdr would be everything they said they'd be but seeing the reality has disillusioned her and once she was able to ditch them and join the fireflies she immediately took the opportunity.
she doesn't believe in the fireflies either tbh (not that she'll ever say that out loud) because she doesn't trust any group to be transparent and altruistic. she figures once the fireflies don't have a force to fight and unite against, they'll likely fall to corruption too but until that day comes she'll gladly use them to destroy the kdr.
she will push and start trouble if she thinks she knows something that can help others or make things easier. she's very outspoken but she's not a troublemaker or someone who starts issues for no reason.
she tries her best to be very kind and compassionate but something is just below the surface, her paranoia and neurosis.
if you knew her before the outbreak you'd think she was a pushover and maybe a bit naive and sheltered.
now she's closed off and detached but still wants to put humanity first.
she trusts very few people and may seem fake or disingenuous to some as she tries so hard to put on a good face??
plots that'd be fun??:
a love interest she ultimately betrays for the sake of her personal mission. m/f available.
obvi gotta be cliche and have someone who hates her/doubts her because of her former kdr affiliation.
someone who knew her before the fall. preferably friendly so we can have a cute found family plot?
someone who finds out her real motives? maybe they found a journal or saw her acting oddly and confronts her? the more dramatic the better!
I love angst and drama and slow burn so yeah!
someone she can vent to and wax poetically to about corruption and her wants for humanity and the future.
someone she can't stand. you rub her the wrong way and she gives you wide berth but something forces the two of you together.
?? literally anything and everything because I'm down. I have zero triggers and love dark and gritty and angsty so throw it at me!! (hope to add more and make a wanted plots page)

Book Review 9 - Forge of Darkness by Steven Erikson
Okay, after roughly a decade of nagging and peer pressure from a friend who adores the series (and has the terrible curse of often recommending stuff I end up loving in the least appealing-to-me ways possible), I finally broke and agreed to read some Malazan. But a ten-book series of thousand page tomes was still too much, so, the prequels trilogy! Or the first volume of it, anyway.
So, this was a, as they say, real fantasy chonker. Nine hundred pages, like literally over a dozen POVs, unexplained but extremely detailed magic systems and worldbuilding and so. Many. Proper. Nouns. Being a prequel, it’s also literally set before humans existed, as far as I can tell – the main caste is all what were described to me as the setting’s elves (well, the overwhelmingly majority of them, anyway). Also, 900 pages long. Which is just too long for a single book, I think.
Anyways, given all that, surprisingly readable? Not necessarily objectively – it was absolutely a slog at times – but compared to what you might expect from a story that expects you to pick up the meaning and significance of every bit of jargon by use and context and will loop back to any given POV every hundred pages or so, if you’re lucky. You could fit the number of names I remember on one hand, but the book does a good job of giving you enough context and providing enough little reminders that I could remember who any given POV/what any given plot thread was within a paragraph or two of being dumped back into it, anyway. (Except Ursander’s captains. Like, I know they got characterizations but relying on social rank and narrative role to tell people apart really failed on the five different ones running around doing genocide or atrocity to start a civil war).
Plot wise it’s an awkward but interesting halfway point between brutal gritty realpolitik and mythic epic fantasy? Like, the better part of the plot in concerned with aristocratic decadence and Machiavellian scheming and a seemingly inevitable slide toward civil war and all that, but also the only reason any of that could happen is because the guy who could probably fight every army involved singlehandedly was out of town that month trying to do some father-son bonding/accidentally sponsoring a demigod who invented blood magic and human sacrifice to complete his commission of a present for his girlfriend. Or the careful diplomacy around noble hostage-taking being almost derailed because there are three kids who are just actually immortal demons and decided to kill everyone in the castle and go on a trip. The two tones interact in interesting ways at points, and lead to some real tonal dissonance at others.
There is some thematic purpose to that, I think – there’s absolutely a recurring motif of people with power and influence refusing to use it, and ostensible subordinates acting in their name running around and making everything worse in ways they did not understand or approve of while they sat around. From one lens the whole book is one long warning about the horror of delegated authority. Or even broader than that – the distance between someone’s reputation or how they’re regarded, what they think their reputation is, and who they actually are comes up a lot. So much angst and miscommunication.
Beyond that, the best way to describe the plot is ‘three different standard epic fantasy pseudo-chosen one plots happening independently and possibly mutually exclusively, and also a bunch of different views of a pretty fucked society sliding into complete bloody anarchy and religious genocide.’
Character-wise – well, the downside of having so many POVs is that even when there is enough wordcount to actually give several of them real depth and development, it’s incredibly easy to miss it. So it’s utterly possible that there was tons of subtle and nuanced character work I totally failed to notice, but as far as my actual reading experience went most of the arcs were fairly broad and obvious, and focused on the really larger than life operatic characters. (Though as far as somewhat generic fantasy stories go, Korya and Haut are the best and I won’t be accepting disagreement on this.)
Like I’m fairly sure every big fantasy chonker in existence, the book’s ever so slightly Weird about sex. Also one rather extreme (and plot-critical) bit of on-screen sexual violence, though that’s thankfully not the bit the book’s weird about.
The setting was interesting, though buried under so much jargon and proper nouns that it took a fair bit of page count before you begin to understand absolutely any of it. Still, the sea of chaos and the savanna of razor-sharp grass were both really vividly described, even if there’s no chance in hell that I could tell you what their names were.
I really did enjoy the book, on the whole, but it was also kind of an exhausting read? The whole book’s got the whole pseudo-archaic tone and vocabulary you expect from map fantasy, which did help sell it but also do make reading it a bit more of a slog.
Overall, I mean, does ‘extra-worldbuilding heavy prequel set in the lost mythic age of an already famously and world-building heavy fantasy world’ appeal to you? Because if so this book absolutely lives up to expectations. But I’m not going to read anything over 500 pages for a solid bit now, I think.

https://movieweb.com/what-the-castlevania-adaptation-got-right/
Babe wake up. It’s time for the regular Netflixvania dick sucking
Reply:
Oh, this is a recent one. Usually dick sucking articles were mostly written around S2. Nice.
Castlevania is from Warren Ellis. Ellis is a prolific comic book writer known for his dark, gritty, and violent stories.
... do I need to add what else he’s famous for?
and the beginning of a beautifully crafted love story
Bro, the games did not do a stellar job either, but Lisa literally appears for a whole minute before dying c’mon
As the series progresses, the audience is introduced to the idea that Dracula is not some crazed madman interested in destroying all life but is instead merely a lover whose heart has been broken. Dracula is still the monster audiences know him to be, terrifying and powerful, but his motivations are now deeply rooted in relatable human emotions.
True. But this is straight from the games. We see Dracula’s sorrow for Lisa’s death way back in SoTN. The difference is that Dracula in the games isn’t shown angsting on a chair.
One of the best character arcs in the series is from Alucard, son of Dracula. Alucard is a half-vampire, half-human, born from Dracula and his human wife, Lisa. Alucard's story is that of loss, grief, and pressing forward. Alucard begins his arc by losing his mother, a moment shared with his father, Dracula. The character's reactions are completely opposite to one another and show how grief affects people differently. Some lash out at the world, like Dracula, and some bottle it up as a burden, like Alucard. Alucard never fully gets over his loss, and, despite recognizing how hard it would be for him, he joins Belnades and Belmont to kill his own father. Eventually, Belnades and Belmont leave Alucard behind. Alucard is then forced to live alone in the place he once called home. The loss of his family haunts him, and his psyche begins to break down as phantoms from his past bring him to tears.
oh my god you’re just praising SoTN the idea of Alucard reacting in the opposite way as Dracula comes from SoTN just admit you’re praising SoTN
even the pain that comes at killing his own father is something mentioned in CV3! this is the bare minimum an adaptation that includes Alucard should do!!
As for the rest of his arc, lol and lmao. ah yes, peak character arc, Alucard’s friends ditch him, he gets so lonely that he becomes ripe for manipulation, he gets raped, and he shows trauma for a whole two episodes before reverting to his old self. writing.doc
its melancholy portrayal of the effects of grief
yeah i sure was grieving what good writing could have been instead of endless CHURCH BAD and HUMANITY SUCKS and PISS JOKES and rape apologism
Castlevania's ability to adapt its source material from an action platformer with little dialogue to a four-season-long story-driven epic filled with brilliant character moments and jaw-dropping action
Yeah, which is why the show stopped pretending to be a CV adaptation halfway through before shifting into a generic Game of Thrones clone.
Also I need to see those brilliant character moments. Perhaps they’re in the same version of the show where Trevor, Sypha and Alucard have polyamorous chemistry, instead of being Trevor, Sypha and that asshole no one likes
I’ll give one point though: this guy does not need to shit on the games to suck the show’s dick. But this is clearly because he never played them in the first place - the only mention is this one:
Castlevania is an adaptation of 1990's Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. Dracula’s Curse and 2005's Castlevania: Curse of Darkness. It featured a simple singular story that involved the player moving throughout the country of Wallachia recruiting allies to kill Dracula.
which to me implies that this is yet another case of “dude who may have heard of CV3 when it came out and then never revisited it” - he mentioned CoD but didn’t even bring up its elements, and SoTN is nowhere to be seen despite being a huge influence on Dracula and Alucard’s portrayals
anyway tl;dr: yeah the action’s cool but that’s about it

Hi, you can call me Storm! I'm 30 and the mom of a loud and demanding cat ❤️
I’m a multiple paragraphs/novella style writer. I love to write detailed descriptions and delve into a character’s head/emotions as well as surroundings. I compare it to writing a novel together. Not every reply has to be novella length, however. If there are action or dialogue heavy scenes, I tend to do a shorter back and forth to keep the momentum going.
I only do MxF (with me writing the female role). I don’t double, but I’m more than happy to write side characters of either gender to help move the story along. I only want female authors writing male characters as I’ve had bad experiences with cis male authors. (Trans men and nonbinary pals are exceptions).

Interests:
Modern fantasy, monsters, sci-fi, omegaverse, southern gothic/midwest gothic (i’m a sucker for that southern/texas drawl), horror, height/size difference, cheating/affair, enemies to lovers, slow burn romance, spooky small towns, post apocalyptic/dystopia, crime/mysteries, emotionally charged/dark and gritty, bodyguard x assignment, forced proximity, opposites attract, fated mates, anti heroes/morally gray characters, traumatic pasts, grumpy x sunshine, one bed, men who simp over their women, touch her / him and die, and more.
I have lots of original plot ideas in mind as well!

I'm not looking for age play. It's a romance between two consenting adults who each act exactly their age, and they just happen to be different ages.
