Is it too late to talk about Sedwig Tarkin - I mean Partagaz? Because I really want to talk about Partagaz.

He's more frightening a villain than Dedra, honestly. Because he's so poetic - so compelling. I think (and please correct me on this if I'm wrong) Tony Gilroy said somewhere that Anton Lesser makes every line sound like a sonnet, and it's true. He truly commands the room in those ISB meetings! He’s got the quick wit and sharp eye of that one professor at university that everybody wants to be the favourite of - he rewards lively debate and out-of-the-box thinking, can't stand laxity and ignorance, and pushes his students - I mean supervisors - not only to get results but out of genuine care for them. He's almost fatherly to Dedra when he has moments alone with her. You can tell he takes the mentorship of his favourites very seriously.

Oh yeah and he's also a die-hard fascist. There's no “could he be turned” with Partagaz. From the second we hear his speech about the ISB “treating sickness” we know exactly what side of the board he stands on. And that's terrifying! I think people like to kid themselves that things like intellect and compassion will somehow inoculate someone against fascism, but it simply isn't true. Partagaz is such a brilliant demonstration of that.

Plus Anton Lesser's performance is incredible (of course). He's just so SUBTLE - you could have gone full on moustache twirling villain with Partagaz and nobody would blame you but instead he's layers upon layers of evil. 10/10 cannot wait to see him again in Season 2

Vel checked behind the shop first. That had been her way in for many years, as she had no need to be seen in the gallery itself. But the back door was locked, and even more worrying, Luthen’s Fondor Haulcraft was nowhere to be seen. She knew it wasn’t in Koren’s possession, which could mean only one thing: Luthen was gone, and Vel would not get the audience she sought.

Not trying particularly hard to keep the scowl from her face, Vel marched around to the front of the shop and stood before the door. It took a few long moments for it to finally open, as Kleya seemed to be in no rush to allow her in. When at last the gaudy glass door spun open, Vel put on the friendliest face she could, meeting Kleya’s fake smile at the counter in the back of the showroom.

“Can I help you?” Kleya asked kindly, and Vel couldn’t help but wonder how often she had to rehearse to make herself actually sound like a sweet person.

Sometimes I think too hard about Syril/Dedra/Krennic and I just have to take a second to, like, breathe deeply and compose myself lest I trip and fall into a pit of absolute fucking madness in the middle of the workday

My pictures from last weekend in London seeing People, Places & Things one last time and visiting some Andor* filming locations.

I had the best time with @supervisormeero, @lighttailoring (and a surprise @karnpuffs!). I think getting to hang out with you all at the ISB boardwalk and freak out about the D23 trailer together has rewired my brain 🥴 You are all super super super super cool irl and I hope we get to do it again someday 🫶

*Pictures 4, 5 and 6 were used for Season 2 when they filmed at the Barbican in February 2023. The last picture is Canary Wharf station which was used in Rogue One!

@hegodamask @lighttailoring Thank you for the WIP folder ask! Aha this is one of the absurd comedies! A while back I reblogged this post and added some tags

And then talked about it with @supervisormeero and came up with a whole random scenario about Syril being stuck in a sewer. (again thank you for all the ideas, this fic wouldn’t have happened without you)

Syril is chasing after Cassian and thinks he’s found a clue to his whereabouts in a sewer. He hasn’t. And now he’s stuck in it. All of his attempts to get someone to pass him the key that will unlock the sewer fail. The key magically re-appears, just beyond his pathetically outstretched arm, no matter what happens to it. Various characters interact with Syril and fail to help him escape:

Dedra kicks him. Gorst gives him food and drink and happily chats about the blood-soaked interrogations he’s got coming up. B2 shocks him. Maarva hits him. Blevin pretends he can’t help him. Partagaz pretends he can’t help him. Dedra kicks him. Eedy gives him a lecture about being a drain on society. Linus almost succeeds in freeing him. 

Syril doesn't like being stuck in a sewer. But when he sees the sole of Dedra’s boot flying towards his simpering face, his pale hands clenched around the slimy bars of his sewer cage, he knows it’s all worth it.

More horrible family dynamics please... definitely more Eedy. I need to see how she acts without Syril around to pick on. Maybe at whatever the SW equivalent of bridge club is? Or at the supermarket?

And VEL! "A rich girl running away from her family"? They can't be good. I'm imagining one of those completely dysfunctional posh families where nobody's even noticed that Vel is away for months at a time.

Relationship status: The cells of our bodies have already renewed themselves three times over the course of our relationship. Only our bones are the same. I guess our skeletons love each other.

Looking forward to: Andor S2!! And all the conventions in other countries I'll probably visit because of it. I'm also looking forward to getting a new pet soon.

Still reeling from seeing People Places & Things this weekend.

It was one of the best pieces of theatre I’ve ever seen.

I came to see Denise on stage and was just blown away by what an amazing piece of writing it was. It’s not just a play about addiction, but about grief, trying to make sense of the world and fighting to live. I haven’t personally struggled with addiction myself, but there were lines in this play that hit very close to home.

And it goes without saying, Denise’s performance was insane. All the hype you’ve heard about her in this show is 100% REAL. There are times when you’re laughing with her because she’s so funny until you’re reminded how much pain she is in and it breaks your heart.

Denise really is meant for the stage because she’s so. Fucking. Powerful up there. She commands your attention right until the very last scene. There were moments where I could definitely understand how Tony Gilroy saw this play and pictured her for Dedra after seeing it.

After the show, I waited at the stage door and got to meet Denise! She was super lovely and kind enough to sign my program, but I messed up our interaction a little 😬

I asked if I could have a photo with her, which she agreed to, but then said she’ll have to start saying no to pictures since she’s so tired after the show. Before I could say anything the theatre security said “Denise, you don’t have to say yes if you don’t want to” but she was like “no it’s okay”. We took the picture, but I won’t post it out of respect. I hate to think she felt she had to take pictures with fans and I hope I didn’t bother her too much by asking 😞

Other than that, I’m so glad I got to experience the play. It was also really nice to meet @lighttailoring in the wild and have a chat during the interval! I hope we get to do it again someday.
