Maze-Chapter One: What's Next Pt. 6
“You really seem to like to pick the worst possible timings to interact with me.” Kurama remarked, not thrilled with being poked like this from an invisible cage.
“Now, now, you want to save your friend like you wanted to save Kuronue. You don’t want history to repeat itself, don’t you?” Ophiuchus casually said, tongue clicking a bit on his end as Kurama’s eyes flickered from green to gold briefly.
“I’ll be accepting the commission.” Kurama’s expression darkened, an expression he hadn’t worn since having to kill Gamemaster back in the day was now on full display once more.
“That’s wonderful! I wish you the best of luck with the barrier.” Ophiuchus dug his own grave, not picking up on the fact he made a very costly mistake.
“Yes…’Wonderful’.” Kurama hung up the phone, his horrifying brain going to work on what to do once Yusuke was back and how to locate Nibiru to pay this ‘benefactor’ a visit.
There were two very simple rules when dealing with Kurama, one, don’t anger him and two, don’t drag his friends or family into discussion. Ophiuchus, unfortunately, broke both of those rules in one single go. For now, Kurama would have to bite the bullet for the time being as he made his way back to the restaurant. Everything seemed to go by at lightspeed in the restaurant where Kurama sat, thinking carefully on what exactly to do. Sure, he was most certainly getting that barrier broken into for the neighboring universe, that was going to happen. It was another on how exactly to wreck a primordial being like a fae queen for insulting the memory of both Yusuke and Kuronue. Sure, Kurama couldn’t fight like he once did back in the day, but there were ways, there have always been other ways of destroying a person in horrific ways. It was a very unnerving thing for Hiei to witness first hand, Kurama being silent like that and unsure what had happened when left alone. Hiei can already be certain of one thing, whoever got on Kurama’s really bad side, that person wasn’t going to be coming out of this in one piece. That one was a guarantee as Hiei debated about tailing Kurama for a bit, not wanting the retired thief to be alone to his own devices.
The dinner went on as planned, the others taking Kurama’s silences as his form of grieving when the time came to part ways. Kurama had errands to run the moment he left the restaurant. There was a twenty four hour convenience store close by that had Kurama interested, mainly the cacti up for sale and some packet of sunflower seeds for starter gardens. Those particular items were bought in bulk along with plenty of cans of water for the journey ahead. Kurama was very lucky to still have his camping gear in storage for Obon at Genkai’s old estate as Kurama got his cellphone out once again to make a call to a rental company, needing a car for an upcoming trip. Kurama was now on his way to pick up a rental van to drive back to his apartment before driving it back home. In the dark, Hiei followed Kurama stealthily with his Jagan eye, growing more uneasy seeing what his old friend had been up to. Yes, it was still a stone cold fact of life that Kurama couldn’t fight anymore, it was another to be armed with the plant versions of bombs and guns. Whatever Kurama had gotten himself into, he was clearly preparing to have some form of self defense in place to make up for the lack of close combat. There was no doubt in Hiei’s mind as he made the call to Murkuro to inform of his decision to sleep over in the human world, all to keep an eye on Kurama to see what he was up to.
Unaware of Hiei’s decision, Kurama spent the night awake in his apartment, preparing things he would need to carry through into an entirely different realm of existence. Kurama had to prepare some other plants that would be needed as they got woven into the micro braids in his hair, not just the cacti or the sunflower seeds. The calls were made and caffeine packed, Kurama was ready to go through the one thing he never thought he’d have to do: Steal Yusuke Uramashi’s body from a hospital. Objects were a far easier thing to steal from experience, never really having to steal a living body before, but there were always new things for Kurama to try his hand at. The sun began its journey back to the sky, painting it orange and pink as Kurama loaded the van with necessities. The plan was set as Kurama drove the van towards the hospital, Hiei quietly following behind.
Hours had passed and it was soon a busy morning in the Kuwabara household. The boys were rough housing with one another as they got ready for their school day as their father made his way to the living room to get the news on. It was a normal daily ritual for all involved as the smell of breakfast lingered in the air, a smile crept on Kuwabara’s face at the relatively peaceful home life he has now with a wonderful wife and two kids that took after her appearance. Just as the news went through its cycle with Kuwabara getting up to get breakfast himself, the phone started to ring. Normally, Kuwabara wouldn’t expect a call this early in the day unless it was Koenma having to pay rent on the property, something that had been done already, or an emergency for their clinic. Concerned that it could be a client needing to come over to the walk-in clinic that he and his wife run right away, Kuwabara went to answer the phone. The sound of panicked crying could be heard on the other side of the line as Kuwabara honed in on who it was.

I've always struggled when prompted with what I want out of life/how I want to live/general life goals, etc. However I think I'm finally at a place where I can verbalize what I want and now I'm going to list them here not only as a testament to the betterment of my mental health and maturity but also to my future self to reflect upon and hopefully go 'yeah I did that'. So here goes:
I want to live somewhere where I don't need a car to interact with my surroundings. I want to live within walking distance to a grocer, to cafes/restaurants, to other 3rd places. I want to be able to live without needing something I despise to function and live. I don't want to live in a city, however. Too noisy and busy for my liking. I want to look outside and see trees and mountains, not cement and steel. I want to hear birds and wind, not traffic and road rage.
I want a job that I enjoy but is also respectful to me as a worker. I don't want a job at some superstore with a million other employees just scraping by on paycheck to paycheck where the bosses are just the people who kissed ass the best and they don't care if I live or die. I want to be somewhere small, where my talents and interests can shine and I can be a part of why the clientele come in; just to have a friendly chat and I can really help them and their experience. I don't want to rush them in, get them what they want at lightspeed, then tell them to fuck off, leaving both me winded and them feeling like I don't care.
I want a partner. I want someone who undoubtedly will stick by me through thick and thin. I want someone to spend long nights talking to about anything and everything, then wake up in each other's embrace. I want someone who tells me that they love me at every convenience, who makes me feel like to them I'm the most important person in the world. I also want to be there for them, to help them grow and achieve their dreams as well. I want to be as much there for them as they are for me, and we can tackle whatever the world throws at us as a team.
I want to maintain aquariums again. I want to keep monster fish again and I want to go even bigger with my setups. I want to keep Redtail Cats, Gar, Bichirs, Arowana, you name it. I want to have a pond and keep a Wels Cat or maybe even an Alligator Gar (assuming the climate permits). I also want a catio so that my cat can go outside and enjoy himself without me worrying he'd leave and never return.
I want to travel. I want to see the Georgia and Monterey Bay Aquariums. I want to see Crater Lake in Oregon. I want to see my friends that live on the opposite side of the continent. I want to see Malibu Creek State Park, both for me and my dad (we're both M*A*S*H* fans). I want to see Jellyfish Lake in Palau and I want to see Great Whites in South Africa.
I want to keep streaming, but I don't want it to be a job. If I'm comfortable enough financially I want to disable all ads and just play games for fun. I want to share my experiences with stories and keep vibing and hanging out with cool people on the internet. I want to play the games I want and I want to dissect the story and characters and everything down to every minutia and share how I feel about it. I want to do the thing our species has been doing since the dawn of time and I want to enjoy it without the threat of infuriating my audience with a bombardment of ads in their face.
I want to start HRT. I've been telling myself for months now that I'm going to start but I've been too nervous to even think about it and have been distracting myself with anything and everything to not do the thing. I want to be androgynous, however to me it speaks to a larger issue.
I want to be able to do the thing. I don't want my anxiety to control me. I don't want to live in fear but fear is all I know. My instinctual shut downs and avoidance have lead me to feel as though I've wasted my 20's and I don't want it to take any more. I don't want to be scared of not knowing or whatever possible outcome, even if it's in my favor. I don't want to be afraid of change and uncertainty. I don't want to cower and think of the worst. I want to do the thing.

How to Use a POS Machine in 2025: A Simple Guide for Modern Businesses
As businesses adapt to the fast-paced technological landscape, Point of Sale (POS) machines have evolved into powerful tools that streamline operations and improve customer experience. In 2025, a POS system is no longer just about completing transactions. It integrates payment processing, inventory management, customer tracking, sales analytics, and more—helping businesses of all sizes run smoothly. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to use a POS machine effectively in 2025 and unlock its full potential for your business.
What is a POS Machine?
A Point of Sale (POS) machine is the system used to complete sales transactions in businesses, ranging from retail stores to restaurants. It involves both hardware (such as card readers, barcode scanners, and receipt printers) and software to process payments, manage inventory, and track sales data.
In 2025, POS systems have become more sophisticated, offering features like cloud integration, mobile functionality, and AI-driven analytics. Whether you're a brick-and-mortar shop owner or managing an online store, understanding how to use a POS machine properly is key to running your business efficiently.
Why Your Business Needs a POS System in 2025
Using a POS machine offers a host of benefits for businesses, especially as consumer preferences and technological advancements evolve:
Faster Transactions: POS systems enable quick, seamless transactions, reducing checkout times and increasing customer satisfaction.
Comprehensive Data Analytics: Modern POS machines provide detailed reports and insights on sales, inventory, and customer behavior, helping you make informed business decisions.
Omnichannel Integration: Many POS systems now integrate with online stores, allowing you to track sales across physical and digital channels in one place.
Improved Customer Experience: Personalized loyalty programs, faster checkouts, and various payment methods all contribute to a better customer experience.
How to Use a POS Machine in 2025: A Step-by-Step Guide
1. Choose the Right POS System for Your Business
Before diving into the specific steps of using a POS machine, it’s crucial to choose the right system for your business. In 2025, POS systems are available in various configurations based on business type—retail, hospitality, or e-commerce.
Cloud-based POS Systems: Most modern POS systems are cloud-based, meaning they store data online and can be accessed from any device. This is ideal for businesses with multiple locations or remote management needs.
Mobile POS Solutions: For businesses on the go (like food trucks, pop-up shops, or small retailers), mobile POS systems allow you to process payments via a smartphone or tablet, using a portable card reader.
Industry-Specific POS Systems: Consider systems tailored to your industry. For example, restaurant POS systems like Toast or Lightspeed offer features like table management and order tracking, while retail systems like Shopify POS are designed to manage inventory and customer data.
2. Setting Up Your POS Hardware and Software
Once you've selected the right POS system, setting it up is your next step.
Install the Software: Most POS systems in 2025 are cloud-based, so installation is as simple as signing up for the software and logging into your account. If you’re using an on-premise system, follow the instructions to install the software on your designated device.
Set Up Hardware: Connect all necessary hardware components, such as:
Card Reader: For processing credit and debit card payments.
Barcode Scanner: To scan products during checkout.
Receipt Printer: To print customer receipts after purchase.
Cash Drawer: For businesses that still handle cash transactions.
Touchscreen Interface: Many systems come with touchscreen displays for easier navigation.
3. Input Your Product Information
To make your POS machine work for your business, you need to input your inventory or product details into the system.
Enter Product Information: Add all the products you sell to the system, including their names, descriptions, prices, and SKU numbers (stock-keeping units). This can usually be done manually or in bulk via a CSV file if your catalog is large.
Set Up Pricing and Taxes: Configure your system to automatically calculate sales tax and apply pricing rules based on your location and product type. Many POS systems allow you to define tax rates by region, making it easier to comply with local tax laws.
Set Up Discounts and Promotions: Input any ongoing promotions, loyalty rewards, or discount codes into the system, so the POS machine can automatically apply them at checkout.
4. Processing Payments
Payment processing is the core function of a POS machine. In 2025, businesses need to accept a variety of payment methods to meet customer expectations.
Credit and Debit Card Payments: Customers can pay using traditional cards (chip, swipe, or tap) through your card reader. Ensure your system is equipped with EMV (Europay, MasterCard, and Visa) chip readers for added security.
Mobile Wallets: Accept contactless payments like Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay. These methods use Near Field Communication (NFC) to process payments by tapping a smartphone or smart device on the POS reader.
QR Code Payments: Many customers prefer paying with their phones using QR codes. Your POS system will generate a unique QR code for customers to scan and complete their payment via mobile banking apps or digital wallets.
Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL): Payment options like Klarna, Afterpay, and Affirm are becoming more common in 2025. Integrate these services into your POS system to offer flexible payment options to customers.
5. Tracking Inventory and Managing Stock
One of the main advantages of using a modern POS machine is its ability to manage inventory in real time.
Automatic Inventory Updates: Every time a sale is made, the POS system automatically updates inventory levels, so you always know how much stock you have on hand.
Low Stock Alerts: Set thresholds to receive automatic alerts when stock levels are running low. This allows you to reorder products in time to prevent shortages.
Stock Adjustments: In case of damaged or returned items, you can easily adjust inventory levels manually within the POS system.
Inventory Reports: Access detailed reports on inventory performance, sales trends, and stock turnover. This data helps you optimize inventory purchasing and avoid overstocking or understocking.
6. Using Customer Data for Marketing
POS systems in 2025 can gather valuable customer insights to help you boost sales and improve customer loyalty.
Customer Profiles: Collect and store customer information, such as contact details, purchase history, and preferences, so you can tailor offers and communications.
Loyalty Programs: Many POS systems allow you to create loyalty programs that reward customers for repeat purchases. This can include point-based systems or personalized discounts for returning customers.
Targeted Marketing: Leverage the data from your POS system to create targeted marketing campaigns, such as sending personalized offers via email or SMS to customers who haven’t visited in a while or promoting items that align with their past purchases.
7. Generate Reports and Monitor Business Performance
To gain insights into how your business is performing, POS systems in 2025 offer a wide range of customizable reports.
Sales Reports: Track sales volume, revenue, and profit margins for specific time frames. Use this data to identify trends and make informed decisions about pricing, inventory, and staffing.
Employee Performance: Monitor sales per employee and track shifts to ensure optimal staffing levels during peak hours.
Tax Reports: Automatically generate tax reports to help streamline tax filing and stay compliant with local regulations.
8. Ensure Security and Compliance
With increasing concerns about data breaches and fraud, security is a top priority in 2025.
PCI Compliance: Ensure your POS system complies with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS) to protect customer payment data.
End-to-End Encryption: Many modern POS systems offer encryption features to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access.
User Permissions: Set up different user access levels so that only authorized staff can view sensitive information, such as customer data or financial reports.
Conclusion
Using a POS machine in 2025 is about more than just processing payments; it’s about optimizing every aspect of your business. From inventory management and customer insights to seamless payment processing and detailed business analytics, a POS system helps you make smarter decisions and improve operational efficiency. By following these steps and choosing the right POS system for your business, you’ll be well-equipped to stay competitive and offer an exceptional customer experience. Whether you’re a small shop or a large enterprise, mastering your POS system is a crucial step toward success in today’s fast-paced, technology-driven world.

I remember thinking that there was no way this was happening. To me?! No way! Things rarely, if ever, go the way that I'd want them to!
I felt like our time together at brunch moved at lightspeed. And about 1 hour in, I instantly knew that I wanted to go on another date with him. Like ASAP.
We talked about everything. Our family. What our long-term and short-term goals were. Our opinion on dating. What values mattered most to us when it came to parenting/children, finances, mental health, how we handle conflicts. Why eventually being married was important to us. We talked about our childhoods and our siblings (I think now's the perfect time to mention he's a twin as well).
He opened my car door for me, we said our good-byes, and just as he was walking away he said, "I really enjoyed myself, and I hope we can do this again soon."
My heart leaped into my throat. "For sure!"
My pits started to sweat, and my hands turned clammy. Why am I so damn nervous?!
Once I was home doing what your mother always told you to do to prepare for work - take out your clothes, pack your lunch and work bag - I received a text from WC.
"What's your favorite restaurant to eat at?"
"I really love this hole in the wall out in Bloomfield. Their Italian food is always amazing, called Carbone's Kitchen," I replied.
"Ok that's where we going tomorrow for our second date. I'll make a reservation for 7 pm."
I was floored. Yea, this was going to certainly be different than before.
