Festival of Lights… A 'USB Stick' Sparkle Motion WLED driver ✨💡🔌🌟

To wrap up this year, we're doing 8 days (maybe!) of light-filled designs. We started with the Sparkle Motion Mini

which can drive thousands of shimmering RGB LEDs. Next, we were going through some of our NeoPixel samples today and found some "LED Christmas light kit" with star LEDs, its basically these stars

with a little USB plug that has IR, a crummy mic, a tactile switch to cycle modes manually, and a tiny microcontroller that turns the LED selections to different patterns - kinda like this:

The idea is cute - but the implementation could be improved with a lil sparkle motion

! we made a PCB that would fit into the same plastic enclosure but with an ESP32 instead. it's got an IR receiver, ICS-43434 I2S digital microphone

gpio 0 button in the 'right' place, 5V 2A fuse, USB-serial converter for uploading/debugging, and two level-shifted outputs. We can probably get the case in quantity or have this be a 'DIY replacement' that folks can use to make their existing setups WLED/xLights friendly.

For those of you that do not know I am very very color blind. Also another thing that for those of you who dont know I don't normally edit my stuff when it comes to photography. However video is a vastly different animal. I spent a fair amount of time on this specific one. I spent time to adjust the colors. Fix saturation levels. And give it a neat kind of glow all while sharpening it up. A large amount of artifacts that were present in other videos are now gone. Please let me know what everyone thinks.

Hop over to Piccadilly Circus, London and you'll see this amazing light display hovering over Coventry Street which leads towards Leicester Square. London's first official Ramadan light diplsay were turned on last week by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, who described London as "the first major European city to host a spectacular light display to mark Ramadan". During this period, fasting is observed between dawn (Suhur) and nightfall (Iftar) and lasts for 29 or 30 days each year, with the dates varying each year due to the lunar calendar. It is a period of reflection, appreciation, empathy and charity. The fully-recycalble aluminium frames containing 30,000 LED bulbs will be turned on every evening until late April.

~31/12/2022~ Not sure how coherent this will be… Morning felt a little foggy, but an improvement on previous mornings physically. Decided not to chance it though as MCAS symptoms had been bad in the night so had meal replacement drink for lunch. Decided to get the bus to Chichester as wanted to read kindle on the journey. There was a weird guy on the bus with Tarzan hair who made grunting noises and who kept looking at us, which was making us feel a bit uncomfortable. It was rainy but not as torrential as thought it might be. It was weird when we were in Chichester - felt like it was all new to me and I hadn’t been there before - so probably dissociation was at play :/ Liked looking round the shops as it wasn’t too busy - Paperchase had an amazing sale - got 2 pretty ring binders for £1.95. Did encounter my pet hate of people (shop assistants and bus drivers) saying “happy new year” to me before it’s actually the new year :/ Got the buses back to parentals - was dark by the time I got back, and was starting to struggle as NYE is a trauma anniversary. Didn’t help that when I walked in Pom shouted “Happy New Year” at me, when I’ve told him previously about how it bothers me. So hid in room for a bit. Then had dinner with parentals. Been watching true crime to distract. Haven’t managed to do some of the things I’d planned today but did just manage a shower, which is a major feat as (TW) being ‘nakey’ on nye is a major trigger.
