August 8, 2024, had arrived, a date she had eagerly anticipated. It was the Lion's Gate portal, a powerful time for manifesting dreams and desires. She sat at her wooden desk, a blank piece of paper before her. Shaina closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and centred herself. When she opened her eyes, she began to write, each word flowing with intention and clarity:

"I am in perfect health, my body vibrant and strong. My work brings me immense success and fulfillment, my efforts recognized and rewarded. I travel the world, exploring new places and experiencing different cultures. Abundance flows into all areas of my life, enriching me and those around me."

She signed her name at the bottom of the page, her handwriting neat and purposeful. Shaina then folded the paper towards her three times, each fold representing the drawing in of her desires. She placed the folded paper into a glass jar, carefully surrounding it with a variety of crystals—rose quartz for love, citrine for abundance, and amethyst for clarity.

Shaina held the jar close to her heart for a moment, visualizing her wishes already fulfilled. She could almost feel the vibrant energy of her future self, living out each manifestation with joy and gratitude. With a contented sigh, she placed the jar on her windowsill, where it would catch the moonlight and the sun’s rays, amplifying her intentions.

A year passed swiftly. Shaina found herself returning to the jar on the morning of August 8, 2025. She felt a sense of excitement and anticipation as she lifted the jar, now covered in a fine layer of dust. She carefully removed the lid and unfolded the paper, the memories of her intentions flooding back.

As she read each line, Shaina marveled at the transformation her life had undergone in just one year. Her health was indeed perfect; she felt stronger and more vibrant than ever before. Her career had taken off, bringing her success and recognition beyond her wildest dreams. She had traveled to numerous countries, each journey enriching her soul and broadening her horizons. Abundance had truly flowed into every aspect of her life, bringing her joy and prosperity.

Tears of gratitude welled up in her eyes as she realized the power of her intentions and the magic of the Lion's Gate portal. Shaina knew that this was just the beginning. She smiled, feeling a deep sense of fulfillment and excitement for the future, ready to embrace whatever came next with an open heart and unwavering belief in the power of her dreams.

This story takes me back to undergrad, senior year, during the spring semester. By then, I’d accumulated enough credits to have a little fun, so I was practically on a self-imposed break. Every night was an excuse to go out, drink, and laugh with my friends. And in that friend group, two people stood out: Mal and Andy.

Mal was my absolute favourite, the nerdiest, sweetest, most awkward lesbian I’d ever met. We clicked instantly, and she became a pleasant presence in my life, always around for a good laugh and a ridiculous conversation. For context, I’m a pansexual woman, and most of my friends then and now are LGBTQ+—and believe me, I have plenty of stories about that part of my life to tell. But that’s for another day.

Then there was Andy. Tall, skinny, blond with blue eyes. He was shy, nerdy, and played the piano like an absolute dream. And if you’ve read my other posts, you know I had a bit of a colonizer complex. Sorry, Mom. Sorry, Dad. I’ve grown, I swear. But back then, I had a thing for his type, and I’d caught myself crushing on him more than once. We often partied at his place, and this time, it was for his birthday.

It was a massive party, and we all got absolutely hammered. As people drifted off to bed, I learned that my sleeping spot was conveniently set up in his room. I was too drunk to care and fell asleep almost instantly, passing out before the party had even ended. But later in the night, I felt someone climb into bed. It was Andy, slipping in beside me. What happened next felt like a blur—I wasn’t fully conscious, much less able to consent. We had sex, but on my end, it was hazy, unwanted, and wrong.

The next few days were a mess. I was shattered, crying at random moments, struggling to hold myself together while still having to see him almost daily. He acted as if I’d rejected him, like he was the wounded party, moping around as if I’d ghosted him after some casual hookup. But that was far from the truth. My friends started shunning me, and I felt completely betrayed and isolated.

Then, months later, the few friends I had left finally told me the part that destroyed me even more: Mal and Andy had made a dare. A stupid, childish game to see who could get more dates and hookups, and I’d been their “special little dare.” I was nothing but a challenge, an object, a game to them.

That night, and the months that followed, shattered something in me. I learned how betrayal feels when it comes from people you trusted, people you considered friends. I had to face the horrifying reality that I’d been violated, that I’d experienced something no one should ever have to endure. The worst part was the twisted guilt, the battle in my own mind. I had been violated, but not in a way that was easy to categorize or even easy to say. It left me grappling with questions I never wanted to ask myself, left me blaming myself for something I’d had no control over.

But I came out of it with hard lessons. This experience stripped away my naivety and taught me that cruelty sometimes hides behind friendly faces, and that betrayal can come from the people closest to you. It forced me to learn, to grow, and to remember this: never lower your guard, never take responsibility for other people’s cruelty, and always, always speak your truth.

Chantel pushed open the double doors of the high school gym, the faint scent of floor polish and aged wood wafting toward her like a ghostly echo of the past. The reunion buzzed with voices layered in laughter and exclamations of surprise, faces lit by strings of fairy lights that wound along the walls. It had been fifteen years since she'd last walked these halls, an insecure teenager wrapped in self-doubt, unaware of the woman she would become. She smoothed her navy-blue dress and glanced around, her heart thudding with a blend of anticipation and nerves. Former classmates stood in clusters, some looking shockingly unchanged, others with crow’s feet and silver streaks marking their stories. As she approached the refreshments table, her eyes caught a slight, familiar figure near the corner.

Mrs. Eberle stood there, her silver hair now piled into an elegant bun, and her eyes—still sharp behind gold-rimmed glasses—scanned the room with an amused, warm detachment. The world seemed to pause for a moment as a flood of memories washed over Chantel.

She recalled sophomore year: her father had just walked out, leaving her mother hollow-eyed and distant. School became both a refuge and a battleground. It was Mrs. Eberle’s English class that had kept her anchored. One day, when she turned in a paper streaked with tear-smudged ink, the teacher had asked her to stay after class. Chantel remembered Mrs. Eberle’s soft voice, her steady eyes, and the unspoken understanding they shared as she simply said, “Some stories are heavier than others. But they’re worth telling.”

Chantel took a breath and approached her.

“Mrs. Eberle?” she ventured, voice catching slightly.

The older woman’s eyes sparkled with recognition. “Chantel Dupree! Oh, my goodness. Look at you!” She reached out, clasping Chantel’s hands in hers, fingers still thin but firm. “Time has its way, doesn’t it?”

They talked at first about the usual reunion chatter: jobs, families, the weird twists of life. But then Chantel found herself pausing, the old lump in her throat rising. Mrs. Eberle tilted her head, a signal as clear as a raised eyebrow in her class.

“I just—I don’t know if I ever properly thanked you,” Chantel began, her voice low but steady. “Those days in your classroom, they were... more than just lessons. You saw me. And that made all the difference.”

Mrs. Eberle’s expression softened, her eyes glistening for the briefest moment before she blinked and chuckled. “I always believed in you, Chantel. I’m glad to see that belief wasn’t misplaced.”

They sat at a table under the warm glow of the lights, the chatter around them fading into the background. They swapped stories: Mrs. Eberle recounted how teaching had been her life raft during her own dark moments, and Chantel spoke of her work as a journalist and how she now used words to give voice to others who felt unseen. It was a conversation filled with laughter and quiet pauses that carried more weight than words.

As the night wound down and the last slow song began to play, Mrs. Eberle touched Chantel’s arm. “You know, my dear, you’ve become the story worth telling.”

Chantel smiled, her heart swelling with gratitude, a bond of friendship rekindled under the banner of shared history. For once, she felt not only the weight of her own story but the strength it had given her—and the teacher who had helped her carry it when it was too heavy alone.

They promised to meet for coffee soon, an unexpected friendship blooming like a secret garden rediscovered.
