I’m a little iffy about the new optimised Wizard in the party. Arcane Abeyance with spells that should take 10 minutes to cast is pretty bullshit, and it turned an interesting encounter into a totally non-threatening one. In the end, I’m probably more annoyed that she handed off the mote to me so I’m not only complicit, but I had to waste my action casting it!

Silvery Barbs

Totally fine with it if it didn’t work on saves as well. As is, it’s encounter disrupting, but doesn’t do anything that lucky rolls wouldn’t. My proposed balance is that you actually need to make a Vicious Mockery-style insult for it to work. I might take it myself in the future and only use it sparingly, but holding back creates a problem, too.

Principles

I’m still not able to define ‘bullshit’, but I think it’s along the lines of designer intention (potentially disregarding their later rulings) rather than anything about balance or fantasy-feeling. I dislike the aesthetic of hand crossbows and I’ve avoided them because I believe the intention for Crossbow Expert is to work in combination with a melee weapon rather than itself. (I don’t think it changed for One D&D, so maybe it’s time to give up that thought.)

The underlying ‘do what’s fun’ will probably always stay true, so I guess whatever goes as long as I’m making an median contribution to the party. And I guess I do see a world where Lifeberry makes someone’s game healthier.

Origin/Bio➭ ScholarsTale/ Bard was raised in a lab half his life due to a defect in his soul causing him to have too much magic. In attempts to save him, Gaster carved runes in both his soul and bones, trying to link that excess magic into the Isle as a "back up battery" if the last totem ever fell. It didn't work, as planned, Bard is linked to the Isle, but as it's Guard Dog rather then sleeping in a coma allowing the Isle to consume him. More info available

Backstory➭ Bard was born Sans Serif the son of the Royal Scientist Gaster. Due to his soul trying to consume itself with the amount of magic he produced at a young age, he was locked away in a cell that limited his magic. Alone, with hardly any outside contact, for a long time. Gaster experimented on him in an attempt to use that magic to help the Isle, their home. in placing the final grounding rune into Bard's sternum, instead Gaster linked Bard to the Isle... and broke his young mind. Now, as an adult he still has to deal with too much magic, a second personality who is a massive @$$hole and trying to seem like a normal tracker to the rest of the Isle, only the Royals and Alphys know better. At least he has his jam...

Physical Des.➭ Bard often has a tired grin on his face, his bones pearlescent and seem to shine. His eyelights are sharp and catch everything, but there's a gentleness in them and a clear sense of good humour, though there are times when he's afraid or angry that those violet eyes turn cold, green and alien...

Bard can't use a lot of "heavy" magic without one of his runes splintering, making him lose a chunk of HP automatically. If all his runes splinter or he hits 0 Green takes over until he's hit once more, before they dust.
