I'm trying to learn how to make gifs but I'm not tech savvy.

I used a video editor called clip champ (i think that's what it's called) and i posted the results. I don't know how to sharpen or pretty up the gifs. Can you help me?

so i'm afraid i can't help with clipchamp - i haven’t heard of it before so don’t know how it works. i use adobe photoshop to make gifs and everything i know is from there. i don't know if this still works but you can find links to download it on various resource blogs, like this one. with photoshop you can crop the image to remove bits you don't want, adjust lighting and colouring, add text with or without text effects, add overlays and change blending modes etc which all help to create more layered, bright or vivid gifs.

if you end up downloading and using photoshop, i'm more than happy to help talk through how i make gifs or do tutorials etc.

some other general advice that might be helpful:

i make my gifs after screencapping the frames from the video i'm using. i use mpv player to do this but i have also used kmplayer in the past which is fairly simple to use.

i also make sure the video i'm using is at least 1080p. you can get away with 720p if you're making gifs around 268px wide, but anything larger (certainly anything 540px) should be made from a video with a much higher resolution. 4k is obviously the best but the files are huge and can take a long time to process. i honestly think even without doing much else, video quality makes such a huge difference to the outcome of the gifs.

try to keep the gifs short if you can - it’s tempting with a higher gif size limit here to make them really long but sometimes this isn’t always best. tumblr compresses the gifs automatically when they go above 3mb in size which can visibly lower the quality - it’ll look fantastic when you save it but after upload, it can be pixelated or not run as smooth. it’s sometimes better to make more gifs in shorter bursts than to do a few long ones.

overall i think yours are fine for grabbing the moments that you want to post, or adding some text to like you have, but if you wanted sharper or generally cleaner gifs, i'd try to get a copy of photoshop and practice making gifs in there. once you know how, there are so many resources to help you whether tutorials or even just psd downloads that you can drag-and-drop onto your gifs. photoshop is what the majority of us are using on this site to make gifs so there's lots of help or tutorials around if you need it <3

He's not directing 4x01, Lance Anderson is, but I think he's shadowing, and I'll even go so far to say that I believe S4's the season where he's going to direct an episode.

But so far, there's no confirmation about whether that is actually going to happen, and if, which episode. But I'm sure we'll find out in due time. :D

That scene in S3 where Mickey meets Ned and "just like you and angie" is one of my favorites in the entirety of their relationship.

First, the way Ian is watching Mickey and you can tell he's annoyed with him; probably wants to throttle him but settles for just playing with his switchblade (or whatever he had in his hand)

Then when Ned comes in, it's honestly like watching a nature documentary haha the way Mickey spots him and then eyes him as he slowly approaches. The young male sees the old male sniffing around his mate and is immediately defensive, raising his haunches. I swear if I knew how to make edits, I would make that scene look like animal coverage haha

Ian's satisfied look when he sees Mickey is bothered

Mickey's face when Ian says like you and angie. It looks so 'yeah, he got me. I can't even fault him for that one'

One of my absolute favorite Ian things regarding Mickey is a) Mickey was the 3rd person Ian was ever with b) Mickey is his first love c) Ian has NEVER said he loved anyone other than Mickey. Sex is whatever but the attachment & feelings he has for him are unparalleled.

I don't find it weird at all actually! We been knew Mickey likes sex toys! Last time Mick suggested using one Ian kinda freaked out but i get it, they were teens after all!

I'm glad that now that they are older they both feel comfortable using them and exploring together!

That's one of the things I hate about shipping culture; this idea that once a pair is together, that's all they: a pair. They no longer seem to have independent drives, responsibilities, or personalities but it's also involving the other person.

thats very true. and if they don't have scenes together, its automatically "a bad episode". also whenever a ship gets really popular, people act like that couple IS the show and completely disregard everyone else on it, which really bothers me.

ooh lots. in ep one the wedding killed me, ep 2 it was the chest-grab. i was dying husfuhs. i also like the pool scene where he's just living hs best life. alsoooo the part where he hugged her while drunk. so crazy abt it.

Are you looking forward to the new season? I'm not. The season finale last season underwhelmed me and now this new season will likely just have more racism, slaves, and war. All things I could do without. Plus it's a shorter season by an episode or two so stuff I going to be jammed in. But then again maybe they'll be able to make that work.

you know I haven’t been happy with the show since s2.  lol I’ve always thought they changed the characters/important scenes, mostly due too many writers and they rushed too much. but I’ll be here to the end.

I will always have the Outlander books to be excited about.

I feel like "I want to be where you are" is going to go down as one of the top gallavich lines/quotes. It's so sweet and loaded. Top 10?

Oh definitely. Especially in terms of Ian quotes. Actually I think it might be my #1 favorite thing that Ian has ever said to Mickey. So far anyway. I have a feeling that we're gonna get more good Ian quotes about and to Mickey this season if they continue the trend they started in this episode.

But I think this quote was especially beautiful because it's Ian telling Mickey that he wants to be with him, passionately and without hesitation. And it came directly after Ian was 100% prepared to blow his parole in order to stay in prison with Mickey. It was like putting a band aide across all my wounds that were created by Ian's trend of abandoning Mickey in the recent past. Ian was telling and showing Mickey that he's ride or die for him now. And god, I can't wait to see more of this during the rest of the season.

So yeah. It's 100% in my top 10 favorite Gallavich quotes. Possibly even in my top 3.

Sometimes I just wonder about the practical side of Ian and Mickey living together. Like I wonder who got the air mattress and who blew it up. Did they make sandwiches while waiting for it to inflate?

I have a feeling that Mickey got the air mattress and made Ian blow it up 😄. Though I’d bet that they got “distracted” many times while furnishing their new appartment haha

You said that Ian is thinking about them the way he did S1-3, so do you think Ian's bipolar disorder changed the way he thought/viewed their relationship during season 4 and 5?

This is... really complicated... and I think I rambled fairly far off-topic at some point here, but I REALLY don’t want to edit:

I haven’t actually drawn a parallel between S1-3 and S7 properly, before...

But in S1-3 (and to an extent into S4), Ian was chasing that One Big Romance. He wanted the guy and the future and everything else that came along with it.

In S4, Ian was clearly (in retrospect) manic, but he was also really starting to have Mickey in the ways that he wanted to.

And then in S5, especially the first half of that season, Ian and Mickey HAVE that family life that Ian was thinking about in S1-3 (and that he was talking about again in 10x03). So, it’s a lot more about the here-and-now, rather than saving those goals for the future.

So, on the one hand - yes, Ian’s mania in S4 and S5 kind of interfered with Ian’s Grand Ambitions for his relationships...

But on the other hand, was it the mania, or was it just that Ian didn’t NEED to consider the future? He already had the guy and the kid and the family life.

And the thing is - I know that a LOT of Shameless fans have always tacitly agreed that Ian wanted that settled family life. I know this because there is a disproportionate number of fics, written and set in times from S4 to the mid-2030s, about Ian and Mickey and Svetlana and Yevgeny (and the Gallaghers and Mandy and Iggy and Nika, from time to time) as a family unit.

And then you look to S7-10. S6 gave us a hard reset on the Gallavich front. They were broken up, Svetlana married V, and Ian had completely lost his status as a parent to Yevgeny. When Mickey returns in S7, in a lot of ways it’s a reset to how they were in the earlier seasons. I don’t have any solid examples, but it does seem to me like Ian was once again thinking about the future when he ran away with Mickey, before realising that maybe he CAN’T have the future he wants if he stays with Mickey.

Which brings us to S9 and 10. I think this is really a continuation of the S7 story. Mickey’s back, but there’s still no Yevgeny or Svetlana on the scene. They’re back to their S1-3 status quo, in that regard, so it’s natural that Ian is thinking about the “next time” they can bring back those traditional hallmarks of a relationship together.

In summary: I think it’s not that Ian changed the way he was thinking about their relationship, necessarily. I think it’s just that as the relationship changed, the things he used to think about were just... happening, so there was no need for further-flung goals on that front, until they came crashing down again in S5-6.
