I'm so pleased that this movie has finally been given a proper remastering! The new version is so crisp and vibrant, so that we can appreciate every ruffle of Vinnie's green afternoon dress. As a bonus, we also have Cousin Cora's rather fussy, but still fun, outfit with paisley highlights.

Lately I keep thinking of Life with Father. It's a play that was made into a movie, based on a writer's memories of his family during the late 1800s.

There's a subplot around an imported French coffee press that was broken in a rage by the husband. Later the wife buys a new one, and it costs much more than the first one. He demands to know why, and she explains to him that tariffs (which he's in favor of) only harm consumers. When he finds out she learned this by attending meetings where women discuss finance and politics, he blows his top and insists she should only listen to him, and think whatever he tells her to.

Can't imagine why it's been crossing my mind so much. Anyway, it's free to watch just about everywhere, if anyone wants to check it out.

(CW: It's a product of two different times, and it could make you feel some things. A lot of what the characters do and say in the movie is meant to be laughed at and looked down on. It's a "Look how foolish people were back then! We know better now!" comedy.)
