The Cab-Angel With A Shotgun (Lyrics Video) by Music Terminal
Hello, and welcome to the first of two songs that I discovered by pulling up the Leverage fan music video for Parachute on my phone and then letting YouTube do its thing while I cleaned my room. XD This one I'm pretty sure was on an Elliot-themed music video (I'm not sure which one, sorry!), and the minute I started listening to it, I was like "protective Alice vibes." XD Seriously, though I think it fits her very well -- she is not afraid to get her hands dirty to protect what and who she loves, and she doesn't care what others might think about that. "I'm an angel with a shotgun/fighting 'til the war's won/I don't care if Heaven won't take me back/I'll throw away my faith babe, just to keep you safe/don't you know you're everything I have?" -- yeah, exactly her attitude.
And, because of the video I started from and where my mind was at the time, naturally I associate this most strongly with my Valicer In The Dark version of Alice! Which I think makes sense, as she's explicitly the best fighter in the trio, being their Cutter and all. So yeah, the music video in my head features mainly that version of Alice battling baddies on behalf of Victor and Smiler. She doesn't care what it takes or how much she has to spill -- you do NOT get to touch what is hers, Duskwall!
#song saturday#the cab#angel with a shotgun#alice liddell#valicer#valicer in the dark au#I didn't see what the original video was#I just recall it had some dialogue from Elliot at the beginning#so yeah lyric video instead#but yes good protective Alice vibes here#I like the mental image of her going ham on someone to protect her little family#though my brain DOES want to keep pairing it with her fighting the six Bluecoats in the 'Accused' snippet#which doesn't make a lot of sense simply because#well Alice was fighting for HERSELF then#she thought Smiler and Victor were going to be okay because they had backup#though I guess they WERE all being accused of murder together so#still good song#I enjoyed discovering it :)#queued#Youtube

I love watching reactors try to puzzle out the lyrics to ruby songs but nothing beats watching newbies try to sort out the Red trailer intro, Red Like Roses. It always seems to be the same thing!
They'll figure out that "Red like roses fills my dreams and brings me to the place you rest" suggests a dead mother or mentor, and possibly blood. Notice that Ruby appears to be Little Red Riding Hood and wonder if her mother was killed by one of those wolf grimm. (We're all still waiting to find out, so hey).
They'll figure out that "White is cold and always yearning, burdened by a royal test". Sometimes they know or look up Weiss' name and go, oh, lol, it's snow white, of course. Struggling with potential royalty or other high status pressures, trapped by an evil parent? Yup! Pretty much.
Then they'll get to the two most obvious, direct lyrics, and the hilarity ensues, courtesy of both gender norms and heternormativity. Like, I could understand those lines flying under the radar in 2013, but these days? C'mon now...
"Black the Beast descends from shadows..." You see the word beast? It's right there. Blake the Beast. It's straight up telling us. Blake (the black beast) Belladonna (beautiful lady aka belle). Belle is the beast in rwby'verse, but it's a two'fer, and the wrong gender and reviewers just...don't see it. Even stated plainly, and conclude she's just Belle.
But it gets worse (as in, funnier)!
"Yellow Beauty burns gold." Look, beauty; it's right there. Beauty, as in Belle, the other half of beauty and the beast? The lines are practically paired together??? Nah. We're also going to ignore the opening yellow trailer quote not to judge by appearances. Looks like goldilocks, busts up the place, busts up a guy called junior, must be goldilocks, case closed.
Yeah...you know how yang goes on that psychological journey from too violent to too passive, too passionate to depressed, too much cheerful façade, to too raw, until she finds equilibrium? We've all discussed the "just right" aspect of that — the show itself made that joke! It wasn't goldilocks and her stuff that was just right; it was baby bear and his stuff. His home life that got wrecked by a silver haired old woman (I'm pointing at Salem).
Who? Right, so, the antagonist (villain) of goldilocks and the three bears was originally an old silver haired woman or vixen (fox or provocative woman), who breaks into a stranger's home, vandalizes the place and steals everything from a young child. She got retconned into a cute little blonde girl, which severely muddied the moral of that story (when you rob people you ultimately hurt children the worst), but became the most well known version.
I'm sure it's a complete coincidence that eurasian brown bears can be described as golden, but I'm still waiting to see what solar or flame deity/character is being referenced by her name and the line about burning. Chinese yellow dragon of luck and nobility, sure, which rolls right back into the beauty and beast duality she shares with blake. As when one plays beauty, the other plays the beast, and the beast is a nobleman. But solar/fire? Dragon in general, or a specific fiery beast from folklore?
But I digress. Yang's surface level allusion to goldilocks is largely limited to her being a total ass and trashing a nightclub, after antagonizing the owner; and her fighting mama ursa in the emerald forest, before the perfect babe kills papa ursa for her. After that, it's all baby bear stuff, before her underlying allusion as alice liddell comes in like a freight train toward the end of v2.
Anyway, it always make me chuckle because those two lyrics are so bald and direct but, nope! Overhead like a decomposing boeing 747, even this decade. It's great.

Writer Interview Game!
Thanks @kalmiaphlox for tagging me!
When did you start writing?
I've written since I was a kid. Got heavily into fanfiction as a teenager ... and then promptly stopped when I entered college*. Didn't start up again until about 2020; there were stories I wanted to tell of my D&D characters that didn't come up during gameplay. (Having a pandemic to keep one at home helped as well). Picked up fanfic again in 2021 when, after beating Bloodborne, I found a little site called Archive of One's Own...
* I did co-write a play that was produced at my college; it was about Lewis Carroll's relationship with Alice Liddell, the girl for whom he wrote ALICE IN WONDERLAND I ended up playing Lewis Caroll in the production, which was a treat. Probably fed a secretly-held love of men's 19th century fashion.
Are there different themes or genres you enjoy reading than what you write?
I love shows like Babylon 5 or Deep Space 9, as well as a good documentary. I also like reading play scripts.
Is there a writer you want to emulate or get compared to often?
Someone once compared my writing to F. Scott Fitzgerald and I about exploded with joy. Other than that I love a good (translation) of Gabriel Garcia Marquez or the aforementioned Fitzgerald. Edgar Allen Poe in terms of sheer variety of word use, as well as horror inducing terror.
Can you tell me a bit about your writing space?
I have an office with my various fandom paraphernalia around me; but I do a lot of writing on the couch so I can be in the same room as my family. If I get to be alone I love writing outside, or barring that, my local library.
What's your most effective way to muster up a muse?
Listening to music. Even if the lyrics aren't exactly what I need, the tone or mood of a piece can be enough for me to start imagining.
Then again, some of my favorite fics have started from dreams I've had.
Are there any recurring themes in your writing? Do they surprise you?
I write a lot about parenting, because I am a mom; perhaps it's a way to explore the ways parenting can go wrong (and how it can go right). I also seem to write, at least recently, about marriage. I have a lovely happy marriage, but I'm not sure people would know that by the demented marriages I often write about.
What is your reason for writing?
I have fun making up stories, but I find myself needing an outlet to explore some idea of humanity - often an aspect of some part of my life or past that I want to understand better. My stories are me showing my work about various themes in my own life. I don't want to provide solutions or definite answers, but rather, present a situation or feeling and go, 'what do you think?'
Is there any specific comment or type of comment you find particularly motivating?
If I touched a single person with my prose or character situation or if I even made something beautiful from something horrific, then I consider it a win.
How do you want to be thought about by your readers?
An engaging writer that makes a reader think about their smut.
What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer?
World building and, occasionally, dialogue.
How do you feel about your own writing?
I think I have a strong command of a scene - dialogue and scenes between two people are a strength of mine. I have a strong understanding of character motivations and how to present multi-layered characters to an audience, hopefully without judging them too much.
I'm proud of how far I've come in terms of descriptive text; sentence variety, invoking memories and all the senses is something I am experimenting with. (Not every sentence needs to be complex.)
That being said, I wish I knew more words. I'll read something and be reminded of words that I had forgotten, or, even better, learn new words. I want to fill my writing with texture, so that when you read it it tickles all parts of one 's imagination. (I like words.)
When you write, are you influenced by what others might enjoy reading, or do you write purely for yourself, or a mix of both?
I have struggled a lot with writing what I like, because I know what I like is a specific niche; I try to find a way to write things people will like or comment on but also speaks to bigger themes. I can't write just smut, for instance - there has to be some sort of pathos or character change. In the end I do like most everything I write, because otherwise I wouldn't bear to see it on the screen/print.
tagging @wikipedianna, @karnaca78 , @slothquisitor, for writer fun.

Music, Mental Health, and Moving Forward: An Interview with Canisha" Canisha, another artist from Melbourne music scene, sings passionately, yet professionally. Following in the footsteps of Adele and Harry Styles she has created her own niche for this genre where pop music can be emotional and storytelling at the same time. Her new song entitled “Save You From Yourself” is all about the domain of mental health and substance dependence and what it is like to remain as a spectator. The track further establishes Canisha’s ability to turn private suffering into public empathy; a talent that is making her famous across borders much as she grows popular domestically. With help from acclaimed producers Anthony Liddell and Jake Amy, Canisha took the song from stripped back acoustic beginnings and molded it into a slick electronic production that still retains a lot of live instrumentation. Featuring Melbourne soul artist Bumpy injects the track with both additional meaning, and even more, a personal touch creates the song’s narrative and takes it to another level. Canisha reveals the process of creating this powerful music and shares the story behind those songs rooted in her own life experience. Listen to Save You From Yourself below https://open.spotify.com/track/1MepHBfeW1EQbsmVYQnfHG?si=28FOQ3lvRtO_gSNEIMSX7w Follow CANISHA on Facebook Spotify Soundcloud Bandcamp Youtube Instagram Congratulations on "Save You From Yourself"! What sparked this song's concept and message? I had someone close to me who was struggling with their mental health and turning to alcohol to cope. I was too scared to tell them I was fearing for their safety, so I wrote a song about it as an outlet. I never intended for anyone to ever hear the song, I wrote it for me and for them. How does this single fit into your artistic journey and musical evolution? It had been a while since I wrote a powerful ballad like this, I had been releasing a lot of pop songs. I don’t want to be stuck in a box of just releasing cheesy pop love songs. This song showcases my vulnerability and my powerful vocals. What emotions or experiences do you hope listeners take away from this song? I want to promote talking about mental health, seeking help and support for mental health and checking in on your loved ones to let them know they are not alone. Can you elaborate on the theme of self-salvation in "Save You From Yourself"? Those with addictions and mental health can only be helped by others so much, they need to want it for themselves. But encouragement and support from those around you is so important for self motivation. What personal experiences or observations inspired the lyrics? The loved one that this song is about had a history of suicide attempts. I lived with the trauma of that for a long time. There was a time during COVID that I couldn't get in contact with this person, so immediately my mind thought the worst. I went to their house and I kept knocking on the door but no answer. Eventually I managed to find a way into the house and found them in bed passed out after a night of drinking. Relief and anger came over me, relieved that they were ok, but angry because they had been drinking while I was scared for their life. I wanted them to know how I felt, but the conversation was too hard to have, so I wrote this song. [caption id="attachment_57785" align="alignnone" width="720"] The loved one that this song is about had a history of suicide attempts. I lived with the trauma of that for a long time.[/caption] How do you envision the song impacting fans struggling with self-doubt or inner turmoil? I want everyone to know they are not alone, that it's okay to need help. I want them to want to help themselves, they need to want to help themselves. Because their struggles impact those around them as well. Which artists, genres or albums influenced "Save You From Yourself"? Adele has always been a major influencer for me and my music. I grew up listening and belting out the words to ‘someone like you’ and ‘rolling in the deep’.
When I started busking, I loved singing Adele songs. I felt like you could always feel the emotion and power in her songs and I want to write like that. Adeles bridges are what really get me and I knew I wanted a powerful bridge like her songs. I was lucky enough to write this song alongside Bumpy - soul artists from Melbourne. I remember seeing Bumpy for the first time at Sidney Myer Music Bowl and there was instant adoration. I cried when I found out I was going to work with her. Bumpy helped me with my vocals and bought so much more power out of me. Can you walk us through your songwriting process for this track? So I wrote this song in about 30 minutes during an online songwriting course. That week the topic was drink. I used a youtube piano track to sing along to. I then took this song with me to the singing our futures program writing camp, where I was paired up with Bumpy and producer Anthony Liddell. I showed them the song and they helped me bring it to life. I sat there with Bumpy at the grand piano and we figured out the chords and developed them further. We wanted to bring a darkness to the song, and anthony did that with his amazing production skills. (check out verse 2) How did you balance vulnerability with musicality in this song? With each lyric, I thought about the moment those lyrics are describing and thought about the emotion. I emphasised certain lyrics with powerful vocals so the message of the lyrics was louder. Will "Save You From Yourself" be part of an upcoming album or EP? I released my first EP in Jan 2024 and I'm excited to let you guys be the first to know that I am working on my debut album which will be produced by myself, along with Candice Lorrae. Save you from yourself is a stand alone single https://open.spotify.com/artist/1gQ6RBQFW1RmEMDN2XQQt9?si=Pld2whGBT964pzg35wn-VA How do you maintain creative motivation and inspiration? Just keep on writing and moving onto the next thing. Don’t stew too long on one track when it doesn't come out like I want it to. Don’t think about what others want, I need to focus on what I want people to hear. Its easy to fall into the trap of trying to recreate what's trending, but you gotta stick to what you want to do. What message would you like to share with listeners worldwide? It's ok to not be ok. Even if you're not alright right now, you will be alright eventually. Check in on your loved ones and reach out for help when you need support. How does "Save You From Yourself" reflect your personal growth? I wrote this song from scratch by myself, whereas in the past I struggled to write without a track from the producer first. I am growing as a songwriter. What impact do you envision this song having on your discography? It shows that I am capable of different styles of music, that I can be real and vulnerable or fun and cheesy. You don't have to stick to one genre/style. I am a real person who has struggles. Everyone has their struggles and things aren’t always what they appear to be on the outside. I want to decrease the stigma around mental health and addiction. Addiction is an illness and they need help and support. Addiction and mental health impact those around the individual as well.
