Welcome to my library. This is the Lauki section, more specifically Lauren x Kieran. A few notes before you continue: I am very picky about what I read, what does that mean? While I judge stories on the storyline as well, it’s mostly about how the stories are written (writing style). Also please remember that 90% of these stories contain dark content, so proceed with caution; dark content means smut and/or 18+ content in general.

Book Blurb:
High heat. Low stakes. Sharp steel. The cozy, low stakes of Legends & Lattes meets the scorching bodyguard fantasy of Jennifer L. Armentrout's From Blood and Ash in this enemies-to-lovers romance where, yes, the swords do cross.
A USA Today bestseller! An Indie Next pick A LibraryReads Hall of Fame pick A LitHub most anticipated book of 2024
Mattinesh Jay, dutiful heir to his struggling family business, needs to hire an experienced swordsman to serve as best man for his arranged marriage. Sword-challenge at the ceremony could destroy all hope of restoring his family's wealth, something that Matti has been trying—and failing—to do for the past ten years.
What he can afford, unfortunately, is part-time con artist and full-time charming menace Luca Piere.
Luca, for his part, is trying to reinvent himself in a new city. All he wants to do is make some easy money and try to forget the crime he committed in his hometown. He didn't plan on being blackmailed into giving sword lessons to a chronically responsible—and inconveniently handsome—wool merchant like Matti.
However, neither Matti's business troubles nor Luca himself are quite what they seem. As the days count down to Matti's wedding, the two of them become entangled in the intrigue and sabotage that have brought Matti's house to the brink of ruin. And when Luca's secrets threaten to drive a blade through their growing alliance, both Matti and Luca will have to answer the question: how many lies are you prepared to strip away, when the truth could mean losing everything you want?
"There's nothing in fantasy or queer romance that Marske can't do."—Sarah Rees Brennan
Review:
When you need to hire a swordsman to fight a duel in case someone challenges you on you're wedding day the last thing you expect is to fall for him. Mattinesh Jay is the dutiful heir to a struggling house, and has tried everything to keep his family's wool business afloat... and his latest attempt is to marry another heir to a rich house, yet one of her suitors is determined to duel Matt on his wedding day and since he has zero swordsmanship skills he sets out to hire a bodyguard to fight the duel should it arise. Cue Luca, the guy who kind of conned Matt the previous night at a bar and who is on the run from his own family, yet he offers a trade: he'll fight for Matt and teach him sword fighting skills and in exchange Matt will not blackmail him. Yet the more time Matt and Luca spend together training and getting to know one another, the more the chemistry between them begins to grow... yet Luca's lies are going to catch up to him and Matt will have to choose between following his duty and marrying someone he doesn't love or following his heart and going after the man who's tumbled into his life. This was a fairly easy and fun read, it's got low stakes but a fun arc to follow and the romance was nice. It's a good time and one I'd absolutely recommend for anyone looking for a romance with low stakes.

The Fiancée Farce by Alexandria Bellefleur
Alexandria Bellefleur knows exactly what a girl wants. Gorgeous love interest? Check. Book-related career? Check. Marriage of convenience that sparks an enviable romance? Double check. Bellefleur is in the LibraryReads Hall of Fame for a reason.
I have been desperate to get my hands on The Fiancée Farce for months, and when I tell you I had to stifle a scream when I saw that I was approved on Edelweiss, I’m not kidding. Normally, you have to be careful getting your hopes up so high when you only have the summary of a book, but I was hooked right away. Gemma and Tansy had such palpable chemistry, Bellefleur beautifully designs their complementary dialogue with such spark and sweet banter. Gemma is a swoon-worthy love interest, especially with some angst to kickstart her journey to do a little emotional development. Tansy is very sweet and as a book lover, it was so fun to see the shy bookstore worker get some attention from her beautiful crush.
If you saw the cover and, like me, immediately made grabby hands at your screen of choice, you absolutely must get your hands on a copy. You won’t regret it!
I received an advanced digital copy from Edelweiss and was not required to give a positive review.

"I loved Daisy and Brittney so much. Sambury wrote these two characters so well - they are angry, they are withdrawn, they are vengeful, and they are messy. Their character development was incredible to see on the page, and I really did love how their stories ended" ~ Sanjariti
Sanjariti, we couldn't agreed more. Delicious Monsters was a page turner from start to finish!
We have hardcover editions in stock signed by Liselle Sambury! Link: @sistahscifi | www.sistahscifi.com | https://sistahscifi.com/products/delicious-monsters. Better yet, check it out from your local #library!
Reposted @sanjariti DELICIOUS MONSTERS🌿
Liselle Sambury @lisellesambury has written such a thought-provoking, raw, and terrifyingly haunting story that everyone must read.
DELICIOUS MONSTERS is a well-crafted, multi-layered story that is creepy, smart, and honest. Sambury weaves together a powerful narrative that tackles important and difficult topics, like abuse, neglect, racism, sexual assault, grooming, and even how the cycle of abuse is perpetuated through generations, in a very thoughtful manner.
I am a huge fan of the body horror trope, and the way Sambury utilizes it to talk about real life horrors and tragedy is incredibly impactful, and adds so much to the story without coming off as something done for pure shock value.
I loved Daisy and Brittney so much. Sambury wrote these two characters so well - they are angry, they are withdrawn, they are vengeful, and they are messy. Their character development was incredible to see on the page, and I really did love how their stories ended.
All in all, I was thoroughly impressed by Sambury’s writing with this book, and it has solidified just how much talent in the writing craft they have. I cannot wait to see what Sambury comes out with next!

A Year Without Books: July Wrap-Up
SIX MONTHS of reading from libraries! I cannot believe we are halfway through 2022. This has been an interesting experience. What I have learned this month: Every library is different, but most have a larger e-collection. Most libraries have three or so ebook copies of…

All my love and thanks to library staff across the US who voted to include THE HURRICANE WARS on the LibraryReads Top Ten List 🥹🫶🏼 I was a socially awkward turtle growing up and the school library was my refuge, as well as where I discovered the formative books that set me on the path to becoming a writer. Thus, this recognition is very near and dear to my heart and I also want to use this time to tell everyone to support and appreciate your local library because it’s such a special place 💕 Check out the full list at LibraryReads.Org 🌩️

Everything on here is rated E, except for a few, please remember that an E rating can be from curse words, to sexual content, or something more. Preorder now and receive the stunning DELUXE LIMITED EDITION while supplies last―featuring a gold foiled cover, gorgeous sprayed edges with stenciled artwork, as well as exclusive metallic ink patterned endpapers and unique foiled front and back case stamps. This breathtaking collectible is only available on a limited first print run, a must-have for any book lover. “Exquisite and devastating. It won’t fail to move you.” —Shelley Parker-Chan, #1 bestselling author of She Who Became the Sun
Inspired by the legend of Xishi, one of the famous Four Beauties of Ancient China, A Song to Drown Rivers is an epic novel steeped in myth about womanhood, war, sacrifice, and love against all odds as the fate of two kingdoms hangs in a delicate balance.
Her beauty hides a deadly purpose.
Xishi’s beauty is seen as a blessing to the villagers of Yue—convinced that the best fate for a girl is to marry well and support her family. When Xishi draws the attention of the famous young military advisor, Fanli, he presents her with a rare opportunity: to use her beauty as a weapon. One that could topple the rival neighboring kingdom of Wu, improve the lives of her people, and avenge her sister’s murder. All she has to do is infiltrate the enemy palace as a spy, seduce their immoral king, and weaken them from within.
Trained by Fanli in everything from classical instruments to concealing emotion, Xishi hones her beauty into the perfect blade. But she knows Fanli can see through every deception she masters, the attraction between them burning away any falsehoods.
Once inside the enemy palace, Xishi finds herself under the hungry gaze of the king’s advisors while the king himself shows her great affection. Despite his gentleness, a brutality lurks and Xishi knows she can never let her guard down. But the higher Xishi climbs in the Wu court, the farther she and Fanli have to fall—and if she is unmasked as a traitor, she will bring both kingdoms down.
"Stunning and heart-rending." —Chloe Gong, #1 bestselling author of Immortal Longings
Review:
A beauty who is tasked to seduce an enemy king in order to avenge her sister's death and save the lives of her people...but finds herself for the handsome military advisor, a heart breaking story of sacrifice, forbidden romance, and womanhood. Xishi is a beauty, which would be seen as a. blessing as she would be able to secure a good marriage to support her family... except she draws the attention of a famous military leader, Fanli. Fanli offers her an opportunity: in exchange for her using her beauty to seduce and help destroy a neighboring kingdom that seeks to ruin them and work as a spy.... he will protect her family and she would save their people. Xishi and Fanli grow closer and closer.. but as she delves deeper into the enemy king's court the higher the risks become and the deadlier the game gets as all eyes are on her and if her act isn't perfected then she could lose her life and the life of everyone she holds dear. This was a fantastic read and the ending was heartbreaking. I am a sucker for stories like these and this one was inspired by the legend of Xishi, one of the Four Beauties of Ancient China. This is a beautiful story of the lengths that we would go to to protect what we love, the endurance and constant trials that Xishi is put through is just testament to her strength. I really had fun reading this one and would absolutely recommend it! If you love forbidden romance, political intrigue, and inner strength, I would absolutely say add this book to your TBR.
