One of the librarians has been sneakily removing books from the snowman to make it slowly melt over the last couple months, and he’s finally gone. I only got a couple pictures of the process, but the later stages are hilarious

This one's not a book rec, but we wanted to take a second to brag on our Highland Branch janitor, Lynne. She makes these cake sculptures out of brick and asphalt!

Alright so I work at a library in a red county in California and since Trump’s inauguration and specifically seeing the executive orders he passed, and then his little butt-buddy Elon throwing a FULL sieg heil salute, I have been feeling desperate to help fix this. Obviously I’m just one person, I can’t do much, but I can’t just do *nothing*, and I haven’t found anything near me for any direct action so I did this.

I’ve been seeing book recommendations float around on here and TikTok and I felt like it was a good idea to make a display of them in case anyone comes into the library feeling helpless and scared because of what is happening in our country.

It’s not an exhaustive list, it was only what we had catalogued and in the main branch BUT I think it’s pretty good.

My children's display for World Book Day 😊

They've got some interesting articles on their official site about the barriers to reading that children (and tbh adults as well) face. Mostly, it boils down to feeling there's an expected "correct" way to be reading, and that isn't necessarily how or what kids prefer to read.

So, my goal was to showcase a few of the suggestions they provide in those articles. I do wish I'd had the time to add a large comic strip, but I was racing the clock for this one.

The board measures in at ~8' long, and this display is made of 90% recycled materials, including discs from withdrawn audiobooks in too poor a condition to be re-sold 😊

I'm sorry I just cannot get over how BORING the eras tour book cover is. not only is it the same photo we've seen a million times as the tour movie poster but there's zero design elements to it?? I'd hoped that midnights + ttpd signalled taylor moving away from the recent album art trend of "just take a photo and leave it at that, who cares about incorporating the title or anything" but that's exactly what we're getting here 🥲 and it's even worse when it's a $40 coffee table book like those are meant to look good!!!!! bring back graphic designers we're in a pop culture crisis
