Lian was born to human parents. They were part of a traveling circus when they were young. Lian’s father was the elephant tamer and their mother was an acrobat. Lian has long since had a love of elephants and also does various gymnastics as exercise. 

As a child, Lian didn’t know they were a witch given their parentage and they were often touring around the country. As they grew older, their behaviour started to grow erratic and restless, only growing worse and worse as time ticked on. No one knew that Lian was a witch and or that their magic was starting to build. Lian met a boy named Emmett when they were twelve who recognised what she was. They were human born but came from a family of witches and recognised there was magic in Lian, bursting to get out. 

Lian didn’t join the coven as their parents wouldn’t allow it but Lian was given magical guidance by Emmett’s family and their own family settled down so Lian could learn more about what magic entailed.

As teenagers, Lian and Emmett fell in love and planned on marrying after they finished school. They did marry at the age of eighteen. They spent the next twenty or so years together completely in love with each other. At the age of 45, Emmett fell sick. His family refused to help him, claiming that any type of healing like that would be considered dark magic. Lian went to the coven leader and asked them for their hope, thinking that his sister would help was Lian’s mistake. They sent Lian on a mission to find some plants for brewing but when they returned home, Emmett had passed. 

Lian has blamed the Remington Coven for the loss of their husband given their leader, and Emmett’s sister, sent Lian on a mission that made them miss his passing. Liam accused their leader of hating humans born to witches and was promptly kicked out of the coven.

With Lian’s grief, they went to the demon’s of the city, wanting to find some way to get their husband back. They could not offer them that but they offered her dark magic and ways to find a way back to their husband.

Lian has spent many years away from the city, learning and practicing new forms of magic. They have spent their years assisting humans. While they have a soft spot for ones born to witches, Lian will also take payment for magical assistance. If a particular case tugged at their heart strings, they would help without needing payment. 

The dark witch returned to Vievecor around five years ago with a different surname. While they haven’t aged much, most of the people who would remember them are long dead. They settled into a townhouse in the Hedon district and after finding it hard to get a job that would keep their cover, they accepted the position as Manager at the demon run club, Vicium. 

In more recent years, Lian has reconnected with their nephew in law, Eiji Remington, helping assist the young human with his desire to destroy the coven and system that has looked down upon him, the same system that allowed their husband to die so easily.

Lian likes to keep up appearances, volunteering for shelters in the city and donating sums of money towards research for diseases that supernaturals cannot fix.

She was always protective of Emmet, so when he married Lian Koeman (a witch from outside the coven who she hadn't met). Helena was never quite happy with the marriage. Emmet died a few years before Elijah was born so the two of them never met. Helena told Elijah about Emmet but never mentioned Lian.

Elijah started shadowing her and training to take over the coven when he was 22. He became her second in the 1910s, working with her to manage the coven. They stayed close partly because of their shared work.

She never outright pressured Elijah to take over the coven, but always treated it as a given. Without either of them realizing it, Elijah internalized this and accepted it as his duty/destiny.

Her husband was a skilled healer who trained many of the healers currently working in the tower. He was more introverted and didn't mind having Elijah take over arm candy duties at social functions. Their marriage was overall a happy one because they were both affectionate when they were together.

BACKGROUND: 

Emmett would be the reincarnation of Lian's husband who died a few hundred years ago. In his past life, he was a human born to witches and the Remington Coven. They met Lian when they were 10 and he helped them realise they were a witch, stopping them from losing control.

They started dating as teens and got married when they were eighteen. Lian joined the coven and began to learn magic under Emmett's sister. Emmett grew ill when he was in his early 40s and died while Lian was away, trying to fetch herbs to heal him.

In the years after his death, Lian learned spirit magic so they could reach out and communicate with Emmett, likely spending hours doing so. They never have grieved and gotten past his death.

About 40ish years ago, the communicating with his spirit stopped working, that would be when he was reincarnated into a new body. The rest from there is up to you but we can plot it out!

"I suppose I could be the magician deciding whether to put a show for you," Ayumu grinned as they watched Lian move between their parted legs and they reached out to smooth an appreciative hand over the side of their thigh.

"And if you can push me far enough, I might just crack. How about it, Mx Koeman? Wanna see if I do?"

The spirit was proving to be just what they had thought. "I'm glad you understand. Most people get too hung up on things like money and it's just terribly boring." Money didn't matter when you were dead and Lian had a lot they wanted to do before that day came.

Lian turned to watch them spread out over the sofa, looking like some kind of dishevelled rock star. Her lips quirked, amused at the choice of safe world. "Are you hoping for a magic show or are you the magician?" Lian asked, moving closer until they stood between their parted thighs.

"That's quite alright. Liber is not going anywhere... And neither am I." Not when he considered Vievecor City home now more than ever.

Matthew rolled his eyes at the mention of Hemi's name. "And what is Mister Te Koha up to these days that warrants such a long leave of absence?" he asked, vaguely curious even if he called little for what the man got up to. Information was always a good thing to have.

"Hmm..." Matthew hummed as he pondered Lian's question. How much did he want to tell them? Especially given how private Matthew considered himself to be. But it was still nice to have someone to talk to. "You've had many lovers, Koeman... And you mortals seem to get terribly sentimental very easily. How do you deal with all that?" The fallen deity swiftly hid his face behind his wine glass as he took a drink from it.

At least away from the bar the crowd thinned out a little. They relaxed back, keeping the mug between their hands. "I would offer to help but I don't want to be on a deities bad side." They weren't as strong or durable as a demon so Lian would be on their best behaviour.

Lian lifted their shoulder in a shrug. When they lived as long as they did, life felt like it was dragging on the same. "Oh you know, exciting times running Vicium in Mr Te Koha's absence," they replied, rolling their eyes. While Lian had a decent rapport with their boss, it put a damper on some of their plans and studies but the club was a good ruse. "How have you been Matthew?" they asked.

Lian was acutely aware that they should have gone to visit Matthew as well. It wasn't just up to the demon to keep in touch. "I've been meaning to come visit Liber, I'm sorry I haven't come sooner."

They could sense his unease, meaning his magic still hadn't come back. It was good to know that the spells they had helped with could suppress his magic for this long. With some adjustments, it might depower him completely and what a wonderful thought that was. "Yes, that's the one. It was a good group, I think the uh... vampire," they whispered, pretending they couldn't remember their name. "They were good leader and got us all out." Of course Lian had been very lucky, carrying a charm that protected them from the nullifying magic.

From the way Elijah looked at them, he had no idea who or what they were. That worked in their favour right now. While they didn't probe into his thoughts, some were easily read when their magic skipped over the edges. They had no plans on giving up too much of that information. "Oh, that's quite alright. I have a forgettable face, happens all the time," they said. "I'm Lian Koeman." Lian didn't mind revealing their name, knowing they could take the memory of it from Elijah's memoring, making them just as unforgettable as they claimed. "We've only been introduced briefly before so don't worry about it."

He returned the smile with one of his own, shutting his computer. "Yes, that's right." Having everyone know that he was kidnapped and a lot of them figure out that he must have been depowered like the others was annoying, but there was nothing he could do about it now except for wait it out. "So you were part of the team that rescued Teddy. I heard what happened to Gwen, but I'm glad no one was killed." Especially that he'd managed to keep his own head.

Elijah was realizing something he'd taken for granted with his magic was being able to tell what species the person in front of him was. If they were part of the rescue teams that meant they weren't human, and based purely on gut feelings he would guess witch, spirit, or a younger deity, but couldn't be sure. "I'm sorry if we've met before, but I can't quite place your name." The way they were speaking was familiar, but Elijah couldn't remember their face no matter how hard he tried.

Lian had made the offer before they got a good look at the person who slipped in beside them. If they had seen who it was, Lian might not have been so willing to invite the witch to join them for a drink. It was too late now though and they had to pretend like they were happy about it. As Lian ordered, they cast a few small spells under their breath, focusing on putting barricades around their mind and thoughts, protecting them from a man like Elijah Remington. They didn't trust that he wouldn't go prying about in their thoughts. When they turned back, they had a second mug of cider and slipped it over to the other. "I don't believe we have met, at least not that I can remember," they lied, easily enough. Technically they haven't met properly but Lian knew all about him. Thankfully they were wearing gloves, they took Elijah's hand with a small shake. "But it's nice to meet you. I'm Lian Koeman." It was easier to introduce themselves with the full name, knowing it would mean nothing to him.

Elijah had gone for a walk around the small village just admiring the sky and the building before eventually the cold started to get to him so he stepped into one of the bars to order a drink and warm up. He turned when the person beside him spoke. "That sounds like a good idea, thank you." Something about them was familiar, but Elijah couldn't exactly place it. He could tell they were a watch, but with the deities' magic all around he could tell light or dark. Had the two of them met in one of the alternate timelines but not in this one? "I'm sorry, have we met before? I'm Elijah Remington." He smiled and held out a hand.

"Oh, I'm not concerned about that, Mx Koeman," the spirit returned with a smile. "I know exactly what that feels like." Ayumu enjoyed a spot of shibari from time to time themself but they tended to be the one doing the tying.

"How long have you been up there? Can I get you anything? A drink, perhaps?" Ayumu chuckled, eyes still trained on Lian and the intricate patterns the ropes were making across their body.

There were few things Lian kept a connection with from their old life. The feeling of being high in the air with an audience watching in awe was one thing they had taken from their circus life. While the witch kept a distance from the clientele of Vicium most of the time, they sometimes got the urge to have that thrill again. In those instances, Lian dressed down and wrapped robes around their body in intricate designs.

The art of rope bondage had become a fascination of theirs in the past fifty years, enjoying the control and comfort that bondage could give someone, even themselves. Years later, Lian was more than skilled enough to tie themselves up in criss crossed patterns. As part of the show for the evening, they were swinging upside down, just a metre or so above the crowd. They spun slowly, enjoying the blood rushing forward as they took in the crowd and their fascination.

From one person's expression, they smiled, painted red lips splitting wide. "It doesn't hurt, if that's what you're worried about," they commented. "It's actually quite comfortable, if you would like to try it."

Matthew had been to the hot springs and tried his hand at ice skating, the latter of which he did not really care for, and he soon found himself in a place that was more to his liking -- the Mount Paean bar. He had heard that they had an adequate stock of wines and spirits and wanted to see for himself if there was anything he had not tried before.

"Hello, Koeman. I'd much prefer a wine..." the fallen deity commented when he finally managed to get himself to the front of the bar. The crowd was already beginning to get one his nerves, but he did see a bottle of interest on display on the shelf. "And a red at that." It was almost odd seeing Lian outside of their work setting, but they had come to know each other enough over the years to even call each other friends. "I thought you'd know that about me by now," he added. To many it might have come off as condescending, but knew that Lian could hold their own against him.

After stepping through the portal, Lian had felt overwhelmed by the magics that the deities were using. It felt like it was stifling despite the cold weather. Lian had been able to suppress that feeling, pushing down that discomfort so they could enjoy it. Or at least look like they were. They had spent the afternoon ice skating until their fingers and toes were numb.

Lian's cheeks were still flushed pink as they ducked into one of the bars along the main street. The busy bar was warm and buzzing with activity. Making their way to the bar, the witch ordered some hot cider, ready to wrap their hands around it and warm them up. They noticed someone trying to squeeze in beside them and shuffled over. "Did you want some cider too? I can order another glass for you?" they offered, seeing the bartender making their way over towards them. "Or something to warm you up at least."
