Walker series finale review

It’s only been a week since Cordell nearly died and Luna died in Cassie’s arms, so their people are hard at work being there for them.  Like the start of season 3, Cordell wants everything back to the way it was and overcompensates by being extra, but his family simply want him to be in the present with them, and then take one step at the time. 

Stella tells her dad that there is no version of life where he’s being gone is better, it will just be a different kind of pain.  She gives him the letters he wrote while he was undercover in case he doesn’t make it out alive.  She and August didn’t read the letters because it came from a different version of their father and they don’t need that now.  However, perhaps Cordell do, and figures it out from there.

Despite Cordell’s assurance to Geri that the Jackal case was an “exception of exceptions”, Geri wisely tells him that there’s always going to be “the next big case” and when it happens, she wants Cordell to go to her for support.  This makes me super happy that Geri doesn’t demand that he cuts back on his work or give up his job altogether but wants to be there for him when his job inevitably gets messy again.

Cassie has to reach back to the past to galvanize herself into thinking about a different future than the one she planned with Luna and goes to the lieutenant job interview.  Trey appears to give a stronger interview, but he’s only been a ranger a short time and the job goes to Cassie.  Of course it does because they changed Cassie’s personality from Cordell-lite in season 2&3 to James-lite in season 4, so she got the lieutenant job as the newly minted female version of Larry James, who was also Cordell’s previous partner.  Anybody remember when she and Cordell tamper with evidence just to satisfy their curiosity? (X) It was actually one of my favorite scenes.

The job promotion further propels Cassie to “leap forward” into a new future.  It also means Cassie will no longer be Cordell’s partner, which is for the best because emotionally she blames him for Luna’s death even when she's concerned about Cordell and asked Geri how he is doing. Two things can be true.  I predicted a while back (looking for the specific post) that Cordell and Trey would eventually become partners and now that it’s confirmed, we are robbed of that dynamic in season 5.

August graduation party is crowded and loud and its cathartic for the audience to see everybody happy and celebrating. We even see Cassie smiling at Cordell’s toast to his son, August Edward Walker, and the rest of the family.  Here I was expecting a Shakespearean middle name for August but it’s from Emily who was a Twilight fan.  Liam and Ben declared themselves team Jacob and just like that they’re moving in together.

The party grows raucous, and Bonham and Abilene hide out in their house.  Abilene apologizes to Bonham for abandoning him while she was launching her wedding venue business and assures him that she wants to oversee and “meddle”, not deal with the bride of the week.  Nope she’s leaving bride handling to the gay guy.  Bonham compromise by keeping the boat and uses it for her events as a tax write off.  Win win!

Cordell takes a leave of absence for the summer to take August, Stella, and Geri (and a secret ring box) on a much-needed vacation, which Cassie grants on the first day of the lieutenant job because “they both need this”. A time apart from each other and away from the daily reminders will do them both good.

While the finale is a 'happy ending', there are underlying sadness that's been there since the pilot episode, starting with Cordell, then Micki, and now Cassie. Each of them has lost romantic partners to death and Cordell said time doesn't heal everything. What is unspoken is work and more work will get them through the pain of grief.

As Bonham and Abeline enjoys a boat ride and Cordell and his children and Geri head out of town, an unexpected double cliffhanger happens: Liam gets recruited by the governor for a secret job and he’s whisked away by men in black in front of the impressed Ben; the Davidson lands is sub-leased by a hippie version of SPN Lucifer, due to his all-white outfit, who is none other than Dawson Leery, played of course by a grinning James Van Der Beek!

Final score: 9.7. Point 1 deduction for each arcs we won't see in season 5: Cordell and Trey's new partnership , Liam's new job from the governor, and new neighbor cult leader Dawson Leery

I stay by the lake for hours, taking in it's calming nature. It's the first time I've felt some kind of peace in the last month and half, if not longer.

The sun starts to set, making the water seem more magical than it already looks. My magic is still spread out over the lake but it stopped moving, showing that even my magic is at peace. Now that is rare.

By the time the night sky rises I decide it's for the best to go back home. I follow the way of the river back to Riorson house. It's calm, the moon reflecting in the flowing water. There's a part of me that doesn't want to leave, that wants to live in this peace forever.

The guards that guard the gate tell me it's almost midnight upon my arrival. Once I walk in the castle it's almost completely quiet. There is a darkness that falls over the castle at night that's only beaten by the small mage lights that dance in the darkness.

I pass by the mess hall where a few staff are still cleaning and I take some bread with me. I snack on the bread while I make my way to my room. I shut the door and sigh. It will never be easy to walk through the family quarters now that no one's here, now that's it's so quiet and abandoned.

My bed still looks like someone fought a war in it and besides what I cleaned today it's still pretty much a chaotic mess.

I get out of my day clothes and out some grey sweats on with a matching grey shirt, comfortable for sleeping. I lit some candles for light and sit on my bed, finishing the last of the bread. It's then that my eyes fall on my desk. Another meal and two letters, one small, one big.

I walk over to my desk, the meal is a simple spaghetti without cheese, a glass of Cassis juice. I look over at the letters, one is definitely Brennan's. The other has a wax seal that's been torn, I push the two halves together and recognize it as the symbol of House Lindell. I waste no time opening the letter.

Dear miss Riorson,

Its been brought to my attention that you've been wanting to see your brother. At the time that letter was sent that was not possible, I had to protect my own life too. I knew Navarians would come to look whether bother Xaden Riorson and Liam Mairi were here. A few days ago that happened and I highly doubt they will come again any time soon.

With this letter I wanted to Inform you that I have a proposal for you regarding the two boys; I will bring the boys to you, reunite you with your brother but at least once a year during reunification day I will have to borrow the boys to keep up my reputation, they're both to be expected each year at the reunification ball. This is the only time you will have to bring them back to me. Take it or leave it.

You're brother has been in good hands, he's been taken care off and his injuries are slowly healing. He's been resting most of the time, as I advised.

My condolences regarding your family, I cannot imagine how you must be feeling, to lose your family at such a young age. Your father was a great man and I will always be in his debt, now yours. If you need anything let me know. Take your time, the throne is not important right now. Mourning is.

Maybe he is not that bad, maybe he truly means what he says. Naolin trusted him and he probably knew his real identity. Then why can't I try that? Maybe i should try to talk to him, hear him out.

SO! I’ve been working on a LOTF OC for the past day or two and I’d thought I’d talk about it for a little bit!:3

Here’s her designs/info (yes it’s a girl😓)

I have some more information about her and how I’m fitting her into the original story!

Cassy (Cassidy) Bowman is one of two girls who are stuck on the island full of school boys. (the second girl is more of a fill-in for the Ralph x Reader story i’m working on).

She’s best friends with Ralph (love interest), Piggy, Simon, and Mulberry Boy (Liam). She’s second in command for chief while chief over the littuns, Simon being her second in command.

She dislikes Jack, due to him being psycho and being heir to the company her father works at (they make his life a living hell).

She became friends with Ralph during the plane ride to wherever they were heading, calming him down whilst he was having a panic attack.

She befriended Simon after the two of them talked about the stupid looking choir uniforms while walking around the island.

And she befriended Piggy when they found the conch after exploring the island.

After Simon was killed, she had a deeper hatred towards Jack, due to him calling Simon “the beast” which lead to his death. She also hardly ate since she would puke up her food whenever she remember Simon’s body.

She also has a deep vendetta against Roger, for killing Piggy for no reason at Castle Rock.

When the Navel officer came to rescue them, both Ralph and her were at each others side. They didn’t trust any of the other boys (besides the twins and for Cassy, Maurice). They would take turns sleeping, Cassy would sleep during the night while Ralph would sleep during the day, the other would be on watch, gripping a random item they found on the ship.

During the summer, Ralph and Cassy would hang out almost 24/7, drinking and smoking together as a coping mechanism.

They all went to their original schools for about two weeks before they were all pulled out and sent to a boys and girls boarding school.

Inconvenient Truths

Premise: When Ethan’s mother is brought to the hospital after a drug overdose, it raises emotions he’d rather stay forgotten.

A/N: Set during 2.13. Submission for @choicesjunechallenge2024 prompt: Growing Sideways by Noah Kahan.

Tears flowed down his cheeks, but the darkness of the on-call room hid them from the shadows. Ethan Ramsey didn’t even know why he was crying or for whom.

It’s not like he didn’t know Louise was an addict. He’d learned that secret a long time ago and accepted it.

It also wasn’t like he needed a mother anymore. He’d done quite well for himself without one for twenty-five years.

So, why had seeing her wheeled into the emergency department on a gurney shaken him to the core?

For a second, he hadn’t recognized the deathly pale face beneath the oxygen mask. It wasn’t until Cassie cried out that it was his mother that he connected the dots.

He remembered being rooted to the spot, unable to get his legs to move or for his brain to process the scene. But then his medical training kicked into gear, and Louise was just another addict who had overdosed on opioids.

He leaped into action, scanning the patient with a clinical eye. Blue lips and fingertips. Shallow breathing. Pupils small and unresponsive….

And on it went. It was just another day in the hospital, with Dr. Ramsey working alongside his colleague Dr. Valentine to diagnose and treat a patient.

But it wasn’t that simple. Cassie Valentine wasn’t just any doctor. She was the woman he was in love with. American royalty with a perfect family and class leaking from her pores.

She hadn’t grown up hearing taunts about her mother running off with another man or seeing her father trying to save face and provide for his only child while working long hours as a single parent.

Truth be told. Ethan had never wanted Cassie to see that or know about his past. He was what he had molded himself into. A cultured and sophisticated man who kept a box at the opera, vacationed in five-star resorts and could call in favors at the American Medical Association with one quick phone call.

He was not the motherless man weeping in a darkened room, hunched over a cot, hands balled into tight fists, wishing for the impossible.

Ethan heard the door click and hurriedly wiped away the tears with his hands.

Cassie peeped cautiously through the crack before she rushed into the room, letting the door close behind her, and sat beside him on the small cot.

Leave me alone, he wanted to scream. Leave before I drag you down with me.

But his lips didn’t move. His voice seemed stuck in his throat like a lump of coal.

She gently ran her hand over his back, telling him without words that she was there for him. He supposed it was meant to be comforting. But right now, it felt like a vine of brambles stinging him with their sharp leaves.

“Ethan, are you alright?” Cassie asked softly, concern in her green eyes.

Somehow, the sympathy coating each word was worse than being comforted. Ethan was not that boy anymore. He didn’t need nor want her pity. So, he fell back on anger, an emotion so powerful he could sense it coursing through his veins.

“She does not get to do this to me,” he hissed. “She does not get to make me feel bad for her.”

“It’s okay to be sad,” she said.

“I’m not sad,” he countered vehemently. “I’m… I’m… angry.”

“That’s okay, too,” Cassie said gently. Her voice was calm and steady, as if taming a wild beast. “Anything you’re feeling right now is okay.”

No, it wasn’t, Ethan wanted to shout. Nothing about this situation was okay!

“I’m…”

For a second, the grief he bore for all he’d lost bubbled to the surface, and he felt tears sting the corner of his eyes.

Sensing his distress, Cassie pressed her lips against his, pouring everything she felt for him in the tender kiss.

When her arms circled his back, holding him close, he gripped her shoulders tightly and let himself take and take. His lips turned greedy, and he ignored her shocked gasp as he sucked out all the love as if he was a vampire hungry for blood.

The kiss was almost his undoing. His heart ached to believe that it was okay. That his mother showing up like this wasn’t a reflection of who he was.

But it was a lie. Just like this kiss was a lie.

He tamped down the vulnerability she brought out in him and brutally ended the kiss, pulling himself away.

Huffing in frustration and anger, he stood up. “I have to get back to work.”

Undeterred, Cassie stepped in front of him. “That was your mom, Ethan. She nearly died.” She placed one hand on his chest and cupped his face with the other. “You can take a minute. It’s okay——”

“No, it isn’t,” he snapped angrily, unable to hide his disbelief at how she didn’t understand him after all this time. “There are patients that need me much more than she does.”

Ethan marched out of the room before he said something he couldn’t take back, slamming the door behind him.

It was not okay. That much he was sure of.

1. when not braided, it reaches to just above her hips! he also has to brush and rebraid it basically every week because his hair is naturally very fluffy and wild (blame liam’s genes) and it does Not stay contained easily.

2. you kinda answered your own question with the addendum! nate is Extremely pissed off that willow didn’t come with him, but he’s only mad about this years later because he still cares about her and because she’s important to him. he is bitter and childish about grudges but his weird obsession with her doesn’t come from nowhere. think jinx and vi but like, reversed ages (<- said by a girl who watched 2 episodes of arcane when season one came out and then never touched it again)

3. yes and yes!! selfshipping is 100% okay, and canon ships are welcome as well so long as they’re legal and respect the characters’ existing identities*! i will note that some relationships have already been developed (have i talked about minnie here yet? no? well she’s sort of implied to be theo’s love interest) but that shouldn’t stop you from having fun!!!

*in which i should remind people that the treacher sisters are both lesbians + sharkie is exclusively gay 🫶

4. sharkie without a doubt, no questions asked. they don’t feel like their life has much value outside of will, so sacrificing themself for him would be a no-brainer. willow is also the one comforting them more, but frankly it’s kinda shallow on her part. sharkie comforts her when she’s freaking out as well but is awkward about it and doesn’t know what to do so in their mind they suck at it and they’re the worst and they’re only making it worse and yadda yadda yadda. bpd thingz

5. ohhh wait i love this question ok hold on .. i’ll be exploring dynamics between the main 4 in the actual comic (so things like cassie & willow/sharkie will get expanded on) but duos like theo & ash or sharkie & viv are curious …… postcanon theo does get to hang out with ashton more but i haven’t actually considered the extent of their interactions much. sharkie would realistically never hold a conversation with viv given the circumstances but i think she’d have an energy that star would vibe with

anyway that’s now what you asked lol tldr i Love unlikely duos!!! i like exploring all sorts of character dynamics and sticking to Just canon on the basis of ‘anything else just wouldn’t happen’ is boring and lame

Relationships, Home and HCs:

I know that PB has said she is bisexual, and I have written her that way occasionally but I originally HC she was lesbian and wrote her accordingly.

I have paired her most often with Riley. I have put her with Lena a few times. I have made her aromantic. I have given her a fling with Penelope. In my Drake x Leo universe, I paired her with Olivia. I have never paired her with a man other than Liam. I have made her queen twice. In Dark Elf she is escorted to social events by Rashad, but she hates it and only does it to appease her parents so they leave her alone and she can focus on her true objectives.

In Royal Retribution she is engaged to Liam but still lesbian and knowingly going along with the fake engagement until Riley's name can be cleared thing (makes way more sense to me than him choosing Maddie, why not chose Riley's best friend?)

In any universe she and Riley aren't lovers, they are best friends.

Shanghai may be where she was raised, but I HC that once she came to Cordonia and bonded with her found family, Cordonia became home to her. I generally have her living at Valtoria, in Hinge, Liam gave her a duchy as well, the one he stripped from Cedric Vescovi (in canon he just dissolved it again, but I had him simply strip it from Cedric and bestow it on Hana) In The Agreement, she becomes Prime Minister of Valtoria to rule alongside Riley, freeing Drake to return to the King's Guard, his true vocation.

In Hinge, Max is also gay and she and Max are close, like siblings. But honestly, she is sibling close to Liam, Riley, and Drake as well. But I HC it's Riley and Max that she is closest to. Hinge may be my most found family story ever.

Pairings by series:

Complicated/Hinge: I gave her a moment with Cassie (F!OC), after Cassie broke up with Madeleine (because of what she did to Hana at the bachelorette party) and toyed with putting them together, but think I am saving her for Lena in this one.

Savage Love: She and Riley had a one night stand during Leo's social season but become friends during the course of things.

Bad Romance: She slept with Riley prompting Liam to kick her out of the country. Riley leverages the marriage contract to force Liam to bring her back. Hana is aromantic in this one and she and Riley are best friends. She gets together with Penelope at the end.

Royal Retribution: Fake engaged to Liam.

Dark Elf: unenthusiastically dating Rashad, fixated on Riley.

Unexpected: Clearly crushing on Riley. Not sure where that's going yet as I have Riley entangled with both Max and Liam.

American Girl: one past relationship with F!OC so far.

In Your Room: Moves in with Olivia by the end of it.

Victim of Love: Married to Liam, ruining her friendship with Riley in the process.

Law's End: Crushing on Riley but single.

Corondian Karaoke: she has feelings for Riley in these drabbles, sometimes unrequited, sometimes not.

Probably a Bad Idea: a one-shot where she is married to Riley.

Other series/one-shots where she is not a main character put her with a variety of people, usually Liam or Lena.
