August 18th-Friendship
????, Spring of 2016
It didn’t matter how immortal anyone was. Falling and constantly stepping into bush after bush of stinging nettles was going to be a pain for just about anyone.
Joe was no exception. Not by a long shot.
If anything it only attested to how he needed new boots. And clothes. And a new life and new everything in general. But he was out of luck on that front.
After crawling through the wilderness for what seemed like weeks, and it probably was (he lost track of just how many times he died trying to get through it,) he could see the city lights of some unknown city in some unknown state just below him. Standing at the top of these hills with the cool night breeze blowing in his face would have been nice, under any NORMAL circumstances.
But, they weren’t. They just made him crave death.
It was still a ways back down there into town anyway, and he was exhausted. So he looked around for some place to sit, and was lucky enough to spot a fallen log.
As soon as his butt hit the trunk, his head buzzed and almost groaned.
“I’m getting...snackish...” “No ya damn aren’t.” He grumbled.
“We should eat something soon, lest we die of starvation. Again.”
It didn’t matter how long he’d known Hedous. They’d been stuck together for seemingly ever at this point. Just when he thought he had a chance to end that bond, decades ago? Fate denied him. Both of them rather. And instead opted to jam one into the other’s head.
Now he had no privacy. There was a degree of it before, but the angel always had some biting remark to give over anything he did or thought.
“And we need new boots. But I would like for you to pick up some of those seaweed crackers while we’re down here.” “Don’t ya get sicka eatin’ that nasty shit? It tastes damn awful.” “I would not expect your palette to understand.” “No! I damn don’t an’ YOU don’ fuckin’ get it either! Ain’t like ya were human!!” To any unfortunate outsiders, Joe would have been talking to himself. Oh how he wished that were so, rather than this forced friendship.
...He missed having actual friends.
...They were friends? Right?
#the august summer#THIS IS LIKE right before monte goads aaron and ray to go lookin for joe with him#and then tehy get in trouble and adrian sends lowrey to beat them up#then adrian beats lowrey up and the vampire goes to stay with liam#YEEHAW FUCKASS

ABOUT THE CHARACTER
Tagged by @falloutglow \o/
Your muse’s name: Catrene Luvere / Cat / “Rene”
One picture / faceclaim of your muse:
Two headcanons you have for your muse?
1. Cat’s luck is other-worldy. No one knows why, and if she DOES then she’s certainly not offering any explanations. It doesn’t matter where she is or what’s going on. She’s never been seriously injured, situations always fall into her favor, or she always escapes in the most ridiculous ways possible. It’s heart attack inducing for any potential allies who happen to be around.
2. She is not the ‘Sole Survivor’ in the way you’d think. But...more on that later...
Three things your character likes doing in their free time:
1. Getting into mischief and adventures of course! Cat gets antsy and has the desire to constantly be moving, and doing things. Now what those things are is up for debate, but most of it involves running haphazardly into highly dangerous situations just for the thrill of it. Or because someone needs help. Whichever comes first.
2. Cat loves hanging around pre-war ghouls, mainly for that reason. Because they’re pre-war. They have stories and such that no one else has, provided they even remember what life was like before the bombs fell, and history is something she really enjoys, but doesn’t talk about openly.
3. Playing cards and magic tricks are a favorite past time that she just can’t seem to pick up no matter how hard she tries. But that’s only because her father* would show her all sorts of neat little tricks all the time when she was growing up.
*in the barest sense of the word
Seven people your muse loves/likes:
1. The sleaze that is Lowrey, her biological father (so it is believed.) Despite having numerous children, Cat was the only one that had bothered to seek him out. Once she’d done so, she refused to leave and ended up joining the mafia Lowrey was already a part of. The two built something of a relationship after that. They’re somewhat close, but not in a conventional way.
2. Fortunato DeFleur, Lowrey’s and later Cat’s boss. The mafia lord who provides them food and shelter, and anything else they could want. The three of them are like a dysfunctional family unit, but a family unit all the same. While Fortunato rarely ever addresses Cat directly, by name or otherwise, he relies on her and Lowrey for protection. Or did, anyway.
3. “Captain.” A mysterious and mute pre-war ghoul sporting a gas mask and sea-captain-ish attire. How Cat ran into the fellow, no one’s quite sure. While they’ve rarely held any sort of conversation, mainly because one of them cannot, Cat’s able to find humor in the little captain’s existence. Because he is shorter than she is. That and she can’t resist a good mystery. The guy tends to show up and then disappear as quick as he had arrived, without rhyme or reason. If anything, she thinks of it like a game that’s been going on for years.
4. Liam McPhearson, the living pre-war relic who was freed from a busted cryo-pod from Vault 111. Cat loves pestering him about how Boston used to be, and about his general engineering knowledge, considering Liam was one of the many engineers of Vault-tec who helped actually DESIGN the vaults. Liam in turn, doesn’t care for how in-your-face Cat can be, but he’s highly aware of how her...existence is, and only manages to tolerate her because of that (fear). To Cat, he’s a treasure trove of information. That and he reacts very strongly to things in general, which makes for good fun.
5. Nick Valentine, one of the few people who’s actually bothered to entertain her antics. Out of sheer and enormous amounts of concern. Cat had come to him during her first trip to Boston, asking for help with finding the ever-mysterious ‘”Captain”. While they managed to encounter said ghoul several times, they never did truly catch him. During that time Valentine couldn’t help but feel responsible for the youngster, trying to keep her from getting herself horrifically maimed or killed while providing a voice of reason. If anyone’s been more of a semi-proper father figure to her, it’d be the old synth.
6. Cat met the mayor of Goodneighbor, Hancock, shortly after meeting Nick Valentine. The two hit it off immediately and developed an almost sibling-like relationship, with Hancock taking on more of a ‘older brother’ type role. He is far more willing to entertain her ideas than the detective is, and even came along with them in their whirlwind adventure to find the “Captain”. It put the two at odds for a while, but, in the end, they always managed to work something out, in order to keep Cat from getting into TOO much trouble.
7. A loner ghoul who owns a wagon and a radiated donkey, Silas has been a frequent traveling companion for Cat back and forth across states, if only because it’s much better to ride in a wagon than to walk all the way from the west to the east coast and vice versa. In exchange for passage, during those times she’ll often work as protection for the wagon of sorts, but of course, she’ll pester him for stories too the entire journey. To which, Silas at that point has nothing better to do but to give in (not that he’s happy about it. But it gets maddening riding in silence after the fortieth hour.)
A phobia your muse has:
Cat has a major case of claustrophobia. One would think her small size would be beneficial in helping her cram into small spaces for her own safety, and under normal circumstances, it would. But she can’t stand doing that, and would much rather deal with whatever’s coming than hide from it. If only because the act of hiding can literally be terrifying in and of itself.
Tagging: I don’t know! Everyone! Show me your OCs!!!

QUICK: What are Cat's & Liam's fav board games? GO!
UH OH
Cat’s favorite game would probably be something as simple as checkers.
Not because she enjoys it, but she enjoys flipping the board over when she gets pissed about losing to Lowrey probably.
As for Liam, he’s not terribly crazy about board games and such. He’d be happy playing whatever game his son wanted to play at the time. Now board games (among other things) just make him really really sad.

Friday Releases for January 17
Friday is the busiest day of the week for new releases, so we've decided to collect them all in one place. Friday Releases for January 17 include Circles, Little America, Dolittle, and more.
Bad Boys for Life
Bad Boys for Life, the new movie from Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, is out today.
The Bad Boys Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) are back together for one last ride in the highly anticipated Bad Boys for Life.
Weathering With You
Weathering With You, the new movie from Makoto Shinkai, is out today.
The summer of his high school freshman year, Hodaka runs away from his remote island home to Tokyo, and quickly finds himself pushed to his financial and personal limits. The weather is unusually gloomy and rainy every day, as if to suggest his future. He lives his days in isolation, but finally finds work as a writer for a mysterious occult magazine. Then one day, Hodaka meets Hina on a busy street corner. This bright and strong-willed girl possesses a strange and wonderful ability: the power to stop the rain and clear the sky…
Dolittle
Dolittle, the new movie from Stephen Gaghan, is out today.
After losing his wife seven years earlier, the eccentric Dr. John Dolittle (Downey), famed doctor and veterinarian of Queen Victoria’s England, hermits himself away behind the high walls of Dolittle Manor with only his menagerie of exotic animals for company.
But when the young queen (Jessie Buckley) falls gravely ill, a reluctant Dolittle is forced to set sail on an epic adventure to a mythical island in search of a cure, regaining his wit and courage as he crosses old adversaries and discovers wondrous creatures.
The doctor is joined on his quest by a young, self-appointed apprentice (Harry Collett) and a raucous coterie of animal friends, including an anxious gorilla (Rami Malek), an enthusiastic but bird-brained duck (Octavia Spencer), a bickering duo of a cynical ostrich (Kumail Nanjiani) and an upbeat polar bear (John Cena) and a headstrong parrot (Emma Thompson), who serves as Dolittle’s most trusted advisor and confidante.
Feedback
Feedback, the new movie from Pedro C. Alonso, is out today.
FEEDBACK is centered around Jarvis Dolan (Marsan), the star host of a successful late night radio show known as “The Grim Reality.” But his whole life takes a turn one night when two armed men burst into the studio and take him and his entire show hostage — forcing them to read from a prefabricated script, exposing a scandal that could destroy Jarvis’ life and decimate his once high-flying career. But in one night Jarvis will discover what HIS grim reality truly means — and what it means to take back his life.
Troop Zero
Troop Zero, the new movie from Bert & Bertie, is out today.
Every night, Christmas Flint (Mckenna Grace) sits under a starry sky with a flashlight, signaling to extraterrestrial visitors that never arrive. Sensitive, imaginative and deeply lonely, Christmas and her equally eccentric best friend Joseph are the ultimate misfits in their rural hometown of Wiggly, Georgia. When Christmas learns that the winners of the annual Birdie Scout Jamboree talent contest will be included on a recording to be sent into space for posterity, her mission in life becomes to join the Scouts and win Jamboree.
The Corrupted
The Corrupted, the new movie from Ron Scalpello, is out today.
Beneath the blinding lights and towering sights of the newly-built East London skyline, lies a dark, dangerous web of corruption. Stratford was home to the Olympic Games; decorated in the notion of legacy. But there’s little hope to be found for the recently released Liam McDonagh (Sam Claflin); a talented boxer put away for armed robbery, who wants nothing more than a peaceful life, and to reconnect with his young son Archie. But his brother Sean (Joe Claflin) is in deep, caught up in property developer Clifford Cullen’s (Timothy Spall) violent, unforgiving circle, with no route out. Liam knows he must risk everything to save his brother before it’s too late, but first, he needs to know who he can trust – which is a harder proposition than it sounds.
VHYES
VHYES, the new movie from Jack Henry Robbins, is out today.
A bizarre retro comedy shot entirely on VHS, VHYES takes us back to a simpler time, when twelve-year-old Ralph mistakenly records home videos and his favorite late night shows over his parents’ wedding tape. The result is a nostalgic wave of home shopping clips, censored pornography, and nefarious true-crime tales that threaten to unkindly rewind Ralph’s reality.
A Fall from Grace
A Fall from Grace, the new movie from Tyler Perry, is out today.
Disheartened since her ex-husband’s affair, Grace Waters (Crystal Fox) is restored by a new romance. But when secrets surface, Grace’s vulnerable side turns violent.
Little America
Little America, the new TV series from Lee Eisenberg, is out today.
Inspired by the true stories featured in Epic Magazine, “Little America” goes beyond the headlines to bring to life the funny, romantic, heartfelt and surprising stories of immigrants in America. The first season consists of eight half-hour episodes, each with its own unique story from different parts of the world.
Dark Hope
Dark Hope, the new game from Broken Bunny Studios, is out today.
Dark Hope is a puzzle adventure game set in a steampunk world where electricity started and ended its existence with the light bulb. Towering clockwork puzzles and archaic symbols cover the halls. Strange rifts of light span the hallways.
Lenna’s Inception
Lenna’s Inception, the new game from Bytten Studio, is out today.
The legendary hero is dead, and a strange glitch is spreading across the kingdom. Explore dangerous dungeons, and defeat the eight archangels to restore order to an unraveling world in this epic action-adventure RPG.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, the new game from CyberConnect2 and Bandai Namco Entertainment, is out today.
Relive the story of Goku and other Z Fighters in DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT! Beyond the epic battles, experience life in the DRAGON BALL Z world as you fight, fish, eat, and train with Goku, Gohan, Vegeta and others.

Moon-eyed FINAL
( Previous )
Even in his sleep Liam could still hear that incessant sound of the incandescent lights above him. For a moment he felt relief, and then hesitation. Was all of that an awful nightmare? Did he really wake up in his bed like he imagined he would?
Slowly he opened his eyes to blurry shapes and brightness. And voices. But they were familiar in that he knew they were friendlier ones thankfully.
“Well now, look who’s awake!” Lowrey said as he strolled inside, shutting the door behind him. “Was just havin’ a chat with the nurse, said you should be on bed rest, but otherwise ya seem okay. Okay enough to be questioned a little.” He winked as he pulled up a chair and sat right by the bedside. “How do you feel?” Liam carefully sat up, wincing as everything suddenly panged with aches and pains. “Like I was put on the racks. Where are we?” “Vegas still. At one of our places of course.” The vampire answered, “Neil called me to go and check up on you when he didn’t get a callback. Rest assured though, I told him you were just fine.”
“Oh,” Liam let out a breathy sigh, “I had forgotten to call him, when- when everything just-” He couldn’t find the words to relay everything he’d just gone through.
Lowrey seemed to have suspected that much. “...Got your uh… Your texts too. By the way.”
“My texts?”
Lowrey pulled out his phone and showed him the screen.
“So they had gone through…they shouldn’t have been able to- nothing was wrong when I sent them I just- I just wanted to leave and was feeling annoyed-” Liam picked up speed as he explained. “I didn’t actually need-” “Hey- don’t worry about it. It’s over now. I’m just glad I was able ta get to you in time is all.” Lowrey hated imagining if he hadn’t, as it very well could have been the case. “...Did he hurt you?”
Liam paused, confused. “...Huh?”
Lowrey held a stern expression. “D’Vitis I mean,”
To hear Lowrey comment about Giotto at all surprised Liam a great deal. Up until now, no one had asked about him, and Parakletos hadn’t even seen him… He had begun to wonder if he’d been going mad the entire time.
“...” He swallowed the lump in his throat and looked away. “Ah- no, no I’m all right. Well- roughed up obviously. But, otherwise, well enough.” Liam gave a small, slightly embarrassed grin.
Lowrey’s expression remained unchanged.
Liam’s face fell. “...Really, Andrew. I’m fine. Or- well I am now, since you had come to rescue me.”
“Mm…” The vampire let his head hang to the side slightly. His usual smile came back rather quickly though. “Oh- I nearly forgot. Gotcha a little somethin’.”
“Oh? What’s that?” Liam was eager to get off the subject. “If you’ve brought something for me I’ll need my glasses, wherever they are.”
“Ah yeah, here you go. Glad these made it out ok,” Lowrey reached over for the end table and plucked Liam’s glasses off the top, handing them over to him. “I think your watch busted when all that excitement went down. That or I squashed you a little. Sorry about that.”
Lowrey handed Liam the small thin box and he opened it. Inside sat a brand new watch, a fair bit pricier than the ones he had been buying, but nothing to break the bank over either. “Oh! Well look at that, somehow you always have what I need when I need it, don’t you?”
“I aim to please, bright-eyes.” The vampire winked again and watched Liam pluck up the watch and turn it over a few times. “Ya know, I say we get outta this place and go relax somewhere nice and quiet.”
“And how would we do that?” Liam asked as he fiddled around with his newest accessory piece, making sure to set the time and strap it back on his wrist. “I thought the nurse said that I needed to stay here.”
“Oh they did. But uh… heh. Not exactly safe around here for my liking. After a big thing like that? No doubt the hunters will be on the prowl, sniffin’ around where they shouldn’t be. So, I figured I’d let Adrian deal with it. Besides, it’ll be much quieter back in New York City. Ironic of me to say, I know.”
Liam knew Lowrey wasn’t mentioning Giotto’s escape on purpose. He was right though, it would be risky staying in the area after everything he’d been through. His ears still tingled with the remnants of all those voices and sounds he’d heard… or at least had thought he’d heard. Was any of that real? Were they hallucinations?
Giotto claimed to have heard it all too…
“Hey are you in there??” A voice came from the other side of the door, followed by a series of rapid knocks. “Can I come in yet??” “Door’s open.” Lowrey called out.
Through the doorway came Cat with her hands on her hips, walking around the bed in a semi circle and examining Liam real closely. “Huh. So, this him?” Lowrey gave a faint snort as he stood up. “Yep, that’s the one. In one piece too! Nice work gettin’ us there in the nick of time. Liam, this is Catrene, one of the original founders of the company. Might have heard of her. Cat, this is Dr. McPhearson. One damn bright engineer. Solaina don’t know where she’d be without him.” “Hardly anyone seems to know who I am. It’s insultin’.” Cat crossed her arms, looking away with her nose in the air.
“Uhm…nice to meet you? Thank you for coming to find me.” Liam nodded towards her, smiling a little. “You’re… fae, aren’t you?”
Cat’s eyes lit up (not literally), “Heeyy! He knows his stuff! Would’ja look at that!” She grinned, coming over to Lowrey to elbow him in the gut. “Forget what I said about eggheads,I like him already. Wanna be part of our secret club?” “Cat-” “What?” “If you could so kindly take us back home.” Lowrey cleared his throat, going over to Liam to help him out of bed and to grab his things. “I’m sure the others will be dying to know if I’m alive or not.”
“Technically, you are alive still! Though, just barely.” Cat was quick to correct him, before she moved to the opposite wall and tore open another portal. “Here we are, an all-expenses-paid one-way-trip back to the good ol’ N.Y.C! Just try not to let anything hitcha on the way out.”
Liam regarded the ominous looking swirling vortex with justifiable hesitation, before looking up at Lowrey for confirmation. The vampire gave him a light pat on the shoulder. “It’s safe. Been through it myself several times tonight. I’ll even letcha hold my arm if yer scared.”
Cat scowled at the whole thing, “Ugh, rude? You never offer that to ME!” “Yer a big girl you can handle it. This one here’s probably still spooked outta his wits. Gotta make sure nothin’ happens to him!”
With a sharp hmph, Cat stepped through, and the other two followed. Only…
Lowrey raised a brow in confusion, “Cat? You might be losin’ yer touch, this is the parking lot right outside.”
The fae turned her head back and forth a few times, “Huh! …And so it is!” She said, pretending to be shocked. “Ugh, please. I did it on purpose, I wanted to try driving one of the cars back home!” “Driving??”
“Yeah!”
Liam scratched at his face lightly, watching them go back and forth for a few moments. It was still night outside, and the moon hovered above them as bright as it was before. He began to stare at it.
“Fine, but you gotta portal us back while you’re driving then. I seen ya do it before.” “I will, I will! Just wanna get my land-legs again is all! Or uh…car legs. C’mon! I got a company car and everything all by myself!” Cat bounced away, leading them towards yet another black SUV.
“Geez could you get one any bigger?”
“It looked like a small tank, I thought it was cool!!”
Liam hardly paid any attention to their banter as they all climbed inside and buckled up. He was content to sit in the backseat, as they wouldn’t be able to see just how closely he paid attention to the sky outside. Even with tinted windows, the moonlight blazed right on through.
His ears tickled.
“Ok here we go!”
The car roared to life and they began to roll. The radio came on, left on whatever station the previous driver had tuned into.
“...And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Paraclete, to be with you forever,-”
“Aw man, what is this? Change it to something else.” Lowrey complained as he rolled down the window, flicking at his lighter and holding it up to the brand new cigarette that had suddenly appeared in his mouth afterwards.
“My hands are full here Lousy, stop being useless.”
Liam drowned everything else out. All he could hear in his mind replaying over and over was what Giotto had said. Things he had hoped would not haunt him for years to come.
They locked me up. They said I was crazy. They called me a liar.
“-even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him.”
I hoped for someone else to come …now you’re here.
“You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.”
Every moon, every sun, every star in the sky. They're alive. They're alive… Now we’re both here, together. We’ll end this. Every. Last. One.
____
A storm hung over the sky back in New York City, ushering everyone off of the streets at that late hour with a pelting sheet of rain and thunder rumbling almost directly over the city. The street lights flickered for miles around.
Not a storm that anyone wanted to be caught in.
On the sandy Manhattan Beach to the south, a lightning bolt tore through the sky and touched down, the affected area essentially turning into glass. Any beach-combing ghouls that happened to be in the area were scared away immediately.
A figure stood there at the point of impact for some moments alone, bundled in a thick and billowing cloak with a hood drawn over their head. In one hand rested a bitter smelling staff with a branch tied to the upper end of it.
With bare feet, they began to walk inland.
From the churning seawater, a large mop of dark and floating black hair rose to the surface, watching the stranger leave the beach. They waited for a small while, watching with a scrutinizing and burning eye until the figure wandered away
They too sunk below the depths and swam away, with a long flowing tail trailing behind them.

ABOUT THE CHARACTER
Tagged by ME, just kidding I wanted to do this for my actual SS
Your muse’s name: Liam McPhearson
One picture / faceclaim of your muse:
Two headcanons you have for your muse?
1. Despite being frail and small and weak in every physical sense of the word, Liam is completely capable of going on a one-man rampage once he is pushed to his limit. His Scottish blood runs strong in him, he only needs the right motivation (which is the hard part.) And unfortunately for everyone else, he is capable of building robots. Rather large robots. With guns. And things.
2. He’s addicted to adrenaline rushes despite having a major anxiety disorder. Somehow. Life is hell.
Three things your character likes doing in their free time:
1. Considering the state of the Wasteland and the world in general, Liam finds plenty of enjoyment in fixing Pre-war technology, or building new things much more adapted to the current world. His extensive knowledge in engineering and such has given him that extra edge and if he can make life easier for himself, he definitely will.
2. Liam loves collecting little toy cars. Not because he himself is into cars, but because his son used to be. If anything, they’re keepsakes of better days, that Liam normally packs away into a small box or any other holding container. Sometimes he’ll just take them out and look at them, and think. For a long while.
3. Though he will never admit this openly, arriving in a world not your own can certainly take quite the mental toll on you. What better way to forget than to try all these fun, new drugs just lying around and possibly dripping out of the gutter? It’s the most exciting thing he’s ever done in his life by far (when you come from a background of a perfect honor roll student, a great white-collar job, a good house and a perfect nuclear family, etc,) and he finds it much too tempting to give up now.
Seven people your muse loves/likes:
1. Walker, the ghoul scavenger who rescued him from his broken cryo-pod in Vault 111. Liam owes much to him as Walker was nice enough to give him food, shelter and protection, as well as introduce him to the Wasteland, and Wasteland living. Over time they opened up to one another, during their travels and various misadventures (of terror,) and inevitably, both fell completely head over heels for one another. Now they live together permanently and ...do the exact same things as before. Survive. In permanent states of anxiety, as they have that in common.
2. "Captain”. The same mysterious alleged-sea-captain-ghoul that Cat had been chasing for years prior. Only, Liam so far has been the only one to ever have the privilege of getting kidnapped by the tiny madman. Despite that however, the “Captain’s” never treated Liam poorly on purpose (maybe poorly in the sense of throwing him or carrying him around like a mishandled sack of potatoes.) He most often needed Liam to fix something for him, and likely didn’t know how to ask, to which Liam could hardly find adequate reason to remain angry at him. If anything, Liam always felt like he was SUPPOSED to know who the “Captain” was, but could never really put a finger on it.
3. Lowrey is a very difficult subject to bring up with Liam. The man’s a rat, a charming rat, and Liam like so many others, easily fell into the open manhole and down into the sewer, only because he wasn’t paying attention to everything else around him. Lowrey’s initial kindness and care-free attitude (and his intro course to Wasteland drugs) is what Liam likes, a lot, and the fact that he’s human- things feel almost normal again. And thrilling, and risky. Liam’s vices. Unfortunately for him, Lowrey seemingly hardly feels anything else for Liam beyond ‘a night of good fun.’ With maybe a dash of pity.
4. His son, Neil, leader of the Institute is also a very sore topic. Thanks to the divorce when Neil was still in elementary school, the two had grown apart year after year, until they both found themselves far in the future. When they had reunited, Liam stood on the precipice and nearly accepted Neil’s invitation for him to come and live there, in safety, and amongst fellow peers who were as smart- if not smarter than him. But as the tour progressed, Liam realized he and Neil were far too different in their ideologies to be able to be together, which, tore him up even further. Still, Neil remained persistent and always extended a hand, even until the very end. A hand Liam did not take, and regrets not taking, to this day.
5. Silas, an uncanny voice of reason. Liam met the ghoul once on a return trip from out of state somewhere, during some emotional and existential crisis or another. Silas let him ride in the wagon back to Boston, and they had a long, long chat about life. Whatever was discussed was nothing short of miraculous, as Liam found his feet again once they’d arrived back home. He never did get to thank Silas properly, but the moment he sees him again, he most certainly will.
6. Preston Garvey and the Minutemen are a group that Liam can say he admires. Their values especially. Even after nearly falling to the temptation of joining with the Institute, the Minutemen still welcomed Liam’s know-how if it meant protecting innocent people better and more easily in the long run. Being able to work with a community of people fulfills that need for a purpose Liam and many people so crave. And although he doesn’t live with them, he and Walker still drop by from time to time to offer their services on repairs and selling whatever they scavenge along the way.
7. The mysterious being that is Catrene Luvere. Liam can’t say he likes her in any capacity of the word, but... She is young. And he feels bad. So he fixed up an old Pipboy she brought to him. And now she won’t leave him alone.
A phobia your muse has:
Despite being afraid of literally everything most of the time, if there’s one phobia Liam has hardcore then it’s atychiphobia.
The fear of failure.

Moon-eyed PT4
( Previous ) ( Next )
Being awake and aware while traveling through the In-Between was one thing Lowrey never wanted to brag about out of everything he'd ever done in his extraordinarily long lifetime.
The space fabric rippled and tore open as he and Cat spilled directly out of the rift and onto the desert ground. And not gently either.
Cat hopped back up to his feet in a frenzy as he spun around in place, "We here?! Is this the right place??" The moon was full, making it much easier to see despite being out in the middle of the desert.
Lowrey groaned as he peeled himself off a patch of sandy dirt, dusting his suit off as he did so. He felt queasy, but his worry for Liam's well being took precedence over the minor bout of sickness. "No idea… this looks right though," He hoped anyway. The mountain range just ahead of them seemed sort of familiar.
"Hm… what's that glow over there?"
"Huh??"
Cat pointed to what appeared to be a small orange light on the dark horizon. "That!"
Was that the facility? Lowrey had good eyesight in the dark, but not to telescopic levels. "I'm not sure. Let's go and check it out."
"Ugh I don't wanna jump in again so soon," Cat began to complain just as Lowrey took a few steps forward. "Give me a few minutes, or an hour. I've been stuck in a box for over fifty years."
Lowrey looked back at the fae from over his shoulder. "We don't have time. C'mere." He knew it was a bad idea to fly in the open in bat form, especially out in hunter territory during a bright night. But time was of the essence.
Cat groaned loudly and came forward, holding his arms up as the vampire began to rapidly shift into a big, furry mass of teeth and claws. And ears. And extra skin and wings. "Hey ya seem bigger than when I last remember!" (Lowrey had in fact not grown any larger.)
With a beastial grunt, he grabbed onto the fae by the arms with his talon-like claws and took to the air. The orange light on the horizon grew in size, revealing itself to be the parking lot lights that stood along the front of Area 51. This was the right place.
"Hey lookit all that, the cops are here!" Cat pointed out with his foot as they swooped over a series of red and blue flashing car lights scattered all around the facility.
Lowrey's nostrils flared with concern as he scanned around for Adrian. The man ought to have been here during an emergency. He'd know what was going on in more detail, or at least…he was supposed to.
Once he had located the DeFleur in question, he flew away from the commotion a short distance, dropping Cat off back onto the ground and shifting back into his human form. From the darkness they both emerged, catching more than a few policemen off guard. A quick flash of a badge that Lowrey always kept in his wallet but never wore was enough to calm them down. "Adrian!"
Upon hearing his name, Adrian turned away from the authorities mid-conversation, annoyed that Lowrey decided to suddenly manifest on scene at the slightest hint of trouble. "Let me guess, Solaina sent you?" He asked with a fair bit of irritation. "I have this situation under control."
Cat glanced back at the building. "Huh…ya do?"
Adrian furrowed his brows, looking down at Cat.
"Don't worry he’s one'a us. I'll introduce ya over drinks sometime." Lowrey stepped in between them to defuse whatever was about to come. "Heard there was some big trouble cookin' out here, thought I'd pop on over to make sure everything was ok. What's goin' on exactly?"
Adrian stood down. "The third level suffered a breach in its security and one of the more dangerous specimens got out of its cage. The director and I have been working alongside one another to sort things out as quickly as we can."
Heads were going to roll for this, certainly. But Lowrey wasn’t interested in that aspect of it. "Everyone get outside all right?"
"They have been taking roll call. A fair number of employees were reportedly trapped on the third floor when the lockdown was initiated I am afraid. Top priority right now is to keep all ways into the facility closed, so that the specimen does not escape. So far we-"
The longer Adrian went on, the less Lowrey paid attention. He'd never be able to single Liam out up here around all these people. "Yeah," He added absentmindedly as he glanced around every so often. "Great, we'll keep watch on the perimeter."
Cat made a surprised 'huh?' "But ain't we gonna-" Before he could say anything else, Lowrey grabbed him by the arm and pulled him away. "Hey, watch it!!"
Adrian thankfully spared them the suspicious staring and went back to his business. He didn't have time for either of them.
"What's up with you?! You're acting like a total freak!" Cat growled at Lowrey until he finally let go.
"We need a way in. Adrian was never gonna entertain that, so I didn't bother bringing it up. He doesn't need to know." Lowrey quickly explained as they both took a walk around the parking lot to people-watch. Liam was nowhere amongst them.
"Why? Who ya lookin' for?" Cat asked, following Lowrey's lead and growing several inches taller again as if it would help aid in their search.
"A real important scientist, indispensable to the DeFleurs. He works here. Lil' guy, a bit shorter than ya now, blond hair, wears glasses,"
"Scientist?" Cat repeated in awe before laughing. "Since when did you start hangin' around a bunch of eggheads!" He turned away. "I’ve seen a couple folk like that around, but I don’t think they’re who yer lookin’ for. Maybe the poor bastard got stuck inside like some of the others. Whatever that dude said."
Lowrey swallowed once, shoving his hands into his pockets for his lighter and cigarettes as they continued to weave in and out of groups of employees. Their excited beating hearts formed a wall of noise. Overwhelming to the unpracticed, certainly. But after having lived in the big city for so long? This was nothing.
Still… he could not find Liam. The longer the search went on, the more his absence became obvious and irrefutable. He wasn't here. Something in his gut told him as much. Even Neil seemed to have some sort of sixth sense about it.
"Let's circle around back." He suggested once they'd finished making a pass through those who were able to escape safely.
There had to be other ways into the vaults below. But where? They couldn't just walk in through the front. Adrian said so himself, there’d be no getting inside from out there. And even if they could, he and Cat likely wouldn't have been able to get very far down below.
Cat shrugged and followed him as they wandered off partially into the desert to circle around in a wide arc to the other side of the building, still within the fenced area overall. "This place is pretty big. What do they do here?"
"Well as you so lovingly heard Adrian, Boss’ actual grandson, put it… they keep the real nasty and dangerous stuff down here. Stuff that shouldn't be wanderin' around."
"Grandson,” Cat muttered in awe, realizing just how much he had missed. He could focus on that later. “Oh! Then it must be even BIGGER down below, huh?" Cat exclaimed, whistling to show how impressed he was. "...A futile effort with how much shit out there wants to harm humans, you realize. You could never keep all that locked up."
"A real Sisyphean task, I know. Now help me look for a way in."
They continued to walk around, looking for a door or a window, a manhole, any kind of entrance they could see from the outside, but no luck.
"Don't they got some kinda, I dunno…emergency exit or somethin'? Kinda like an ant hill." The fae mused.
"Well, actually," Lowrey slowed to a stop. "There is a tunnel. Somethin' they use ta spit up rockets and little flying things into the sky for science experiments I think. I always heard about it but never seen an actual launch." From where they were, they could see no such tunnel. "Might be far away… or could be right under our feet. It's probably hidden." There were no conveniently lone shacks or markers resting out in the desert to give it away if it was in fact nearby.
"Well, finding hidden paths and other stuff I'm not supposed to get into is my specialty!" Cat clapped his hands. "I feel a little better now, let's dive back in and find it! If you turn into a bat again we'll be able ta scour this place in no time!"
Lowrey had no arguments. If that was the quickest way to get in, then he'd take it. Once he had transformed back, the fae pulled another dimensional rift open, this time leading into the ground. Lowrey hesitated briefly.
"What? It's safe!" Cat reassured him as he climbed onto the vampire's back this time. "As safe as the In-Between can be. Now let's go!"
They leapt straight in.
—
Liam knelt down by the workbench he stood beside as the two collided with one another.
The robot was able to grab a hold of Osiris somehow, but only briefly before it dissipated and reformed again elsewhere. "Threat has been engaged, resetting tolerance threshold."
Osiris somehow let out a hiss as it rushed towards the robot again, intending to knock it over. Its attention was fully on the metal man.
Liam stood again as he watched their fight move away, only to see Giotto coming at him from the corner of his eye. He yelped as he moved under the man’s thrown fist. "OPEN THE DOOR!" The rage and desperation present in his voice was enough to rattle the doctor about as much as a punch would have.
He backed away, gun still in hand as he pointed it to Giotto once more. But the convict didn't so much as flinch. He reached forward and ripped the pistol straight out of his hands, throwing it roughly aside and onto the floor. "Open, the damn door or so help you God-" Giotto devolved into a brief fit of nervous sounding laughter. "So help you whatever it is that's out there!"
Liam made sure to keep a fair amount of distance between them both, searching for any sort of escape route as he did so. There were none. They were trapped in here while the robot and Osiris waged war against one another just a short way's away.
OPEN THE DOOR LET US OUT
For a moment he glanced over to the access tunnel, almost willing for it to open. It did not. Giotto came up to him in that moment, grabbing him by the arm and roughly yanking him closer. "Open. The door. I'll give you one more chance, or I’ll kill you."
Liam pulled against him and kicked at the man's knee but to no avail. His words struck him as odd though, enough to make him cease in his struggle. "Do…do you- hear that…?"
Giotto’s grip on him became stronger, and as he began to answer, another loud crash interrupted whatever he'd been planning to say. Quickly he looped an arm around Liam and threw him out of the way (while launching himself in the opposite direction afterwards) as the robot went barrelling in their direction and landing hard on the ground. The two slid off towards their respective sides and both scrambled back to their feet.
"Osiris is unable to be contained through conventional means, doctor-" Parakletos' voice came from the robot. "I will attempt to contain it here, fulfilling protocal's safety requirements."
"How?!" Liam sputtered, keeping an eye on the swarm of metallic insects advancing closer.
The robot righted itself and Osiris once again charged- when a bright light flashed throughout the entirety of the room, blinding it and sending it fleeing for a brief moment. Liam held his arm up to cover his eyes before looking again.
Before them a blue wall of energy separated the laboratory into two sides, with Osiris isolated on the other. The creature slammed against it over and over, but it couldn’t get through. Liam had heard of forcefield technology being delved into for containment purposes, but he hadn't actually ever seen it in play until now. The shield was quite a sight to behold.
Parakletos planted their feet on the ground. "I know not who you're speaking to or what you've been throwing yourself against. But the subject Osiris has now been contained. I will open the doors for you, and then reseal them.
Primary objective: Doctor Liam McPhearson must be kept alive to report to DeFleur what has occurred here."
Liam's stomach felt like it descended into a pit when he heard the hiss of the access tunnel doors slide open behind him. He'd have been lying if he said his heart didn't wrench somewhat at the thought of being left alone. Even if Parakletos was not a person.
"Farewell doctor."
Giotto wasted no time and quickly took Liam in a chokehold from behind, forcefully dragging him down the tunnel. Just as Parakletos promised, the doors shut after them as they wandered briefly into the dark.
Another light came on, the echo of the electrical pop it made bouncing around the chamber and revealing the actual launching pad. A rather round room with a platform predictably in the center, surrounded by scaffolding and another elevator that was more akin to a cage attached to a pulley and a wire. It went up a ways, but Liam didn't know if it had run all the way to the surface. Not that he could move his head to check.
High above their heads they could see the moon and the night sky, unveiled by the bay doors that were slowly opening up.
Giotto pulled Liam along towards the elevator, taking the doctor's wrist and slapping his hand onto the identification pad there. It gave confirmation and the elevator doors opened. In that time Liam tried to back into Giotto hard enough to knock him away, but his being a lightweight did nothing to help in that venture. The most Giotto did was grunt as he was jostled slightly.
"Why fight so much," He said in a low voice again as the doors closed and the elevator rattled. It slowly began to drift upwards. "You hate it here."
"GET OFF ME!!" Liam shouted back as he strained against the man again.
Giotto's hold did not loosen. "You show up, you work, you don't remember anyone's name or anyone's face. They don't remember yours either-
You're just a cog in the machine. Don't protect them!"
The cable made an odd groan the higher they climbed.
Giotto took hold of Liam's head with a hand and forced him to look out the window by pressing his face against the metal wire. "There’s so much that no one understands." Once he’d adjusted his grip on the doctor, he pulled him towards himself again, only to grab his hair and yank his head back so that he looked up and out of the elevator. There was no roof to block the night sky above them. The white of the full moon was strangely hypnotic.
Static hummed in his ears and his head began to feel foggy the longer he stared. He could hear a…word. Several words, several phrases. Voices perhaps… but they were whispering all together into a jumbled mess.
"I was unlucky enough to stumble upon something so massive… and dangerous. And what do the DeFleurs do?
They locked me up. They said I was CRAZY. They called me a liar."
Liam continued to fight back, but the exhaustion was settling into every bit of him. He couldn’t move.
"They took everything I ever cared about away-"
The surface of the moon began to distort in some strange manner. Even if it was too far away to see any real detail, Liam could have still swore that something looked off about it. Like it wasn’t the right shape- or the odd feeling that it shouldn’t have been there in the sky at all. But that couldn’t be- that made no sense-
A droning filled his ears to the point where he could hear nothing, but Giotto’s voice ripped straight through it.
"I have nothing." The man lamented. It sounded like he was crying. “I told them the TRUTH-” Giotto’s breath hitched. “We’re all alone.” He nearly whispered in a haunting, chilling and quiet tone.
“We're all alone… There’s no one out there. There never was.”
Liam felt a sharp pain run straight through his forehead. A dizzy spell followed and a relentless frenzy of ghostly screaming and chattering filled his ears. It was so distant… but that quality only added to its hellishness.
That was what it sounded like. Hell.
The moon's brightness made his eyes pound, and the heaviness that weighed on his mind only increased.
"Every moon, every sun, every star in the sky…" Giotto’s voice wavered in volume, growing more intense as he went on. He clenched his jaw, the muscles in his neck straining. “All of them.
They're alive. They're alive…!"
Too much.
“But… I’m not alone anymore…”
And as he hears us
“I’m not… I hoped for someone else to come- …now you’re here,”
It was too much. Liam felt his eyes beginning to roll as everything transformed into numbing darkness.
“Now we’re both here, together. We’ll end this. Every last one.”
So too, shall you
Giotto felt Liam’s weight drop entirely in his arms. He leaned forward, craning his neck so that he could look. The doctor had passed out.
He stared down at him, feeling something similar to perhaps pity.
“...I’m… s-” The elevator suddenly let out a loud metallic bellow. Or was it the scaffolding around them? Or the entire room itself? Giotto glanced over the side and down below but could see nothing of interest. What was that?
A shimmering sound appeared next to him- next to him? Coming from the very wall the elevator traveled alongside. As it continued to climb, he was able to see a light ripping through the interior wall, and some shrieking, roaring beast climbing out of it-
A great weight slammed hard into the side of the cabin, sending it swinging from side to side. Giotto fell to his knees, refusing to let go of Liam entirely. He looked up. A massive bat was clinging onto the side of their little box, ripping through the wire and squeezing itself inside. He could hear a voice buried beneath all the straining though.
“WOAH- LOWREY HEY- CALM DOWN-” The vampire roared at Giotto as he clawed his way towards him snapping with his powerful jaws, only to be kicked in the face as the convict scooted to the opposite side. Undeterred, Lowrey dove straight for him again with the intent to crush him outright. Even going as fast as he was, he could still catch a glimpse of the man’s soulless eyes. It didn’t matter who you were. They bore into you deep down. It was unnerving. Infuriating.
He would have loved to tear them out.
With another big crash the elevator cab swung dangerously on its cable again. Cat finally managed to grab hold of the elevator and climb in on his own, keeping close to the entryway. “HEY! YOU’RE GONNA KILL US!”
Lowrey lifted his head, searching underneath himself only to find no one. How? How had Giotto escaped? He was right there-
Before his mind could run away, he turned to see Liam had rolled to the adjacent corner. The vampire carefully came over to him, plucking him up gently and holding him against his body. Despite being unconscious Lowrey could still feel a heartbeat, and that calmed him a great deal.
“Let’s get the hell out of here!” Cat exclaimed, leaning down and opening another portal into the In-Between, though this time on the floor of the cabin itself. Once Lowrey had dove in with Liam, he jumped after them, and the rift closed in a glittering flash.
