“Are you sure you’ll be all right? I could see about leaving early- it’s no trouble really-”

“Liam it’s fine, really. Right as rain, don’t worry ‘bout me ok? You just do whatever it is you do n’ come up and it’ll be like always.” Liam held his breath as he readjusted his cell phone against his ear. He shut his eyes...Inhale...exhale...he told himself several times.

It would be all right. Even immortal vampires needed a break every so often. A long break.

“...Well...ok. But if something comes up-” “I know I know, I’ll give ya a call...” Lowrey yawned on the other side of the line, sounding no better despite all the sleep. “I’ll see ya at home?” “Yeah.”

“Good man...be good now. I love youuuuuu.” Click.

Liam sighed anxiously. “He must be going out of his mind. How terrible.” He said aloud, mainly to himself as he sat alone in the break room.

His phone however did not remain silent for long, and immediately began to ring as soon as he set it down.

“H-hello??” Who could POSSIBLY be calling him from up there- DOWN here no less-

“Good evening, Mr. McPhearson, this is Adrian DeFleur-” “O-OH-uh h-hello! Adrian!! Uhm- what- ...er- well why…????”

“Solaina had come over there to visit, no?? Is she still there?? I must speak with her, it is very urgent.” “Solaina?” Liam repeated. “Well- she was here the other day- and then at my house, but- then she went off to go uh...to go look into some matter or another. I’m not terribly sure. Did you try maybe calling her first?” There was a frustrated and muffled sigh on the other end of the line. “Yes??” Adrian answered, slightly exasperated. “If I would have been able to get a hold of her, I would have relayed what I needed to speak with her about, directly TO her. But, clearly that is not so. And she speaks with you so-” “I-I mean no disrespect by it just...”

“Regardless, I cannot reach her. The call will not even connect, which I find to be rather strange and concerning.” “It won’t??” Liam raised a brow. “The only reason I can think of why that would be is that she either broke her phone or she’s out there in the desert somewhere.”

Adrian’s breath hitched softly. Liam could just barely hear it. “I see. I will be coming over shortly within a few hours. I am already en route for the base. Please see to it that the staff is ready for my arrival.” “Shouldn’t you be telling that to a manager or someone actually in charge?!-” Before Liam could continue his protest, Adrian had hung up. “Ugh!” He pulled his phone away from his ear, glaring at the screen for a few seconds before knitting his brows and frowning sadly again. “What trouble is she in now...”
