TV: Jake Wheeler

Jake Wheeler (Zachary Arthur) tiene catorce años y es gay. Esto es algo que sale a relucir en una de la primeras escenas del episodio inicial durante un inquietante almuerzo que lo reúne con su padre (Devon Sawa), el acaudalado hermano gemelo de éste (tambi��n Sawa), su tía (Lexa Doig) y su primo Junior (Teo Briones), causante del comentario malicioso que expone su realidad sexual, a sabiendas de la molestia que le causa a su padre. Sobre su madre sabemos que ha muerto en un accidente y que ha heredado de ella su gusto por el arte perturbador, razón por la cual suele comprar muñecos en ventas de garaje para convertir sus cabezas en complejas esculturas. Y aquí entra Chucky, claro, muñeco en el que se ha encarnado el brutal asesino serial Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif, casi una aparición constante desde la primera película de la saga, en 1988), quien no tarda en mostrar sus verdaderas intenciones. 

Habitual víctima del bullying escolar, debido a su sexualidad y a su personalidad huraña, Jake encuentra a su némesis en la maliciosa Lexy (Alyvia Alyn Lind), que se burla de un infortunado hecho que lo involucra (Chucky asesina a su padre), razón por la cual irá a vivir a casa de sus tíos.

Sin embargo, en medio de tanto desastre, el joven conoce a Devon (Björgvin Arnarson), hijo de la detective que investiga lo crecientes asesinatos que acontecen en Hackensack y también un entusiasta de las historias de crímenes. Crímenes que los tocarán cada vez más cerca, al punto que se verán obligados a enfrentar el tema por sí mismos porque, claro, nadie jamás podría creer que un muñeco de aspecto inocente sea el responsable de tanta muerte, a menos que seas la víctima.

Esta aclamada serie de SYFY (con segunda temporada confirmada), creada por Don Mancini, continúa la angustiosa travesía de quienes conocen la pérfida presencia del muñeco diabólico y prosigue allí donde concluyó “El culto de Chucky” (2017).
