Is Lionel Luthor dead in BvS? 🤔 Never saw the movie and like, there's flashbacks of him from Lex but I don't if his is still alive and stuff
He is! And he's technically Alexander Luthor Sr. in the movie, which is strange. So that makes Lex Alexander Luthor Jr., which caused some confusion when the movie came out.
Here's an interesting tidbit from the DCEU wiki:
The Lex we see in BVS is definitely still reeling from the treatment he endured from his father. So much of how he treats Superman and Batman in the film seems to tie back to those same issues of control and abuse.
#asks#anon#reading this wiki page was really kinda what jumpstarted me feeling bad for lex in ASOH#like yeah he shouldn't have tried to kill superman but#did anyone try giving him a hug instead of full access to alien tech first??#lex luthor#i am not a lex luthor apologist ok#i just feel bad for him in that movie#(up until he pisses in that jar that was SO weird lex)#bvs#batman v superman#alexander luthor jr

#i subscribe to the theory that the black k incident changed lex's personality #by making his bad half stronger #it also worked the same way with davis bloome in season 8 #thta's the only thing that helps me to reconcile with lex's (and davis') rapid change #and it totally fits the sv lore #i also think clark's 3-months red k stint also made permanent changes to mhis personality due to prolonged exposure #he becomes more aggressive and blunt after that summer #of course it's all desperate headcanoning (or fanwanking as we used to say in the old days) to explain away the bad writing choices #the jor-el theory makes perfect sense to me too #tess mercer in s8 talked a lot of how clark needed to overcome his 'greatest challenge' to finally become the hero he was destined to be #and helped unleash doomsday on metropolis for this reason #jor-el would follow the same dumbass logic as he was even more obsessed with forcing a 'destiny' upon clark than tess was (via @raelis1) [x]
ok I really do hate thinking about Smallville past season 4, but I can't help but think about what a weird amount of power the Jor-El A.I. seemed to have and wonder if Lex had any control over his fate at all
Jor-El was this cold, omnipotent being whose sole purpose was forcing Clark into his destiny, right? like when Clark disobeyed him, got killed, and then resurrected, he said he was going to kill someone Clark loved. So Lana was killed in an car crash caused by Lex drunkly driving after her. ok so if this happened because Jor-El wanted Lana dead, then he orchestrated it. and what does that mean for Lex's free will? I mean if Jor-El was able to turn back time itself so Lana lived and Jonathan died instead, where is the limit to his power and influence?
if his purpose was to force Clark to face his destiny, did he force Lex into a villain to make Clark a great hero?
what about the end of s4? after the Stones of Power made Lionel into Jor-El's vessel and blasted Lex against the wall with their power, the first thing out of Lex's mouth was the most out of character thing imaginable. "I'll be the son you always wanted me to be, Dad." hello?? Lex's entire demeanor changed like a lightswitch in that moment, and he changed his stance on his convictions he made THAT VERY DAY. did Jor-El alter Lex in that moment like he altered Lionel? it would fit with his goal to make Clark great or whatever, but how awful
I don't know. Jor-El's influence is just very creepy and sad and weird to me and makes me question the ideas of free will and fate in this show
#Smallville Meta#Meta#Smallville#Spoilers#SV S4#Lex Luthor#honestly either that blast did something to him or he was concussed because it was like a switch was flipped#how rapidly he began acting really weird#Lex switches from 'It's so important to get Lana to safety' to 'GIVE ME THE STONE I KNOW YOU HAVE IT YOU LIAR!!!!'#like you said it's immediately after he and Lionel are blasted by the stone that he says that OOC line about being the son Lionel wants#then grabs Lana's bag out of her hands as she's leaving and threatens Chloe forcing her to take him to the caves during the meteor shower#lol I'm only a few steps away from being a full on Lex Luthor apologist at this point#but there were some really weird moments that don't make any sense#it does become off as the show goes on how from episode to episode Lex will switch from very sympathetic and well meaning#to completely evil business man and it comes across less like him having different sides and more like a split personality

It's crazy how you can go on twitter and just see your city hall representatives having bitchfits about getting called lex luthor or some shit and mocking families and organizers calling them apologists and shit. on their phones or sitting half asleep while people beg them to acknowledge any of what's happening

Lex Luthor is a raging racist towards Supes and human supremacist that is constantly scheming to kill him because he can't control him. Like yeah? That's extremely gross and abusive?
Denying as much makes it sound like you believe people belonging to certain groups or with certain attributes can't be abused. So biased or prejudice against certain groups I guess? Possibly as racist as Lex? Against a fictional guy but still, the pure white privilege is definitely showing.
Anybody can be abused, it doesn't matter what they look like or what they can do or if they can "take it". Imagine thinking it's okay to justify any kind of abuse just because of who it's against. Last I checked, it's just abusers and apologists that do that.

i like conner luthor aus best when lex is an abusive dad btw. i’m never going to become a lex apologist and i’m not interested in make believing he’d be a good dad. he wouldn’t, and we’ve seen this several times over now. kon is his science project and superweapon. if you’re looking for a good parent for kon, ma kent is right there.
….also obligatory disclaimer that clark didn’t neglect or abuse kon, he was dead for 80% of “child star abuse metaphors in hawaii” and when clark did come back to life it really didn’t take long for him to say “wow! this child doesn’t even have a name? yikes, let’s do something about that! … hm. he isn’t telling me much about his living situation but it seems as though dubbilex and guardian are looking after him, and i don’t want to intrude in on his life since he’s so independent and doesn’t seem to want my help, but …let’s offer to let him stay with my parents sometimes. …………..what do you mean guardian is dead and dubbilex isn’t looking after him anymore. what do you mean he’s homeless living in metropolis now. oh no. oh boy. okay, well, better late than never, this kid is gonna be parented whether he likes it or no. ma!!! get my old room ready, im finally getting that baby brother i wanted”
peace and love. 🧡

unfortunately i am a bvs lex luthor apologist sorry superman but im gonna have to overlook that 🫢
That’s the thing!! Superman DOES kind of overlook it. Even when Lex kidnaps his mother and threatens to kill her, Clark STILL saves Lex from Doomsday. Even when Lex is ranting about being abused, how Superman failed him by letting him be abused (?), etc and bleeding everywhere, Clark shows him mercy.
He DOES save Lex from Doomsday’s (his father’s) fist after all.
He is not the kind of Superman Lex fears or wants to control. He doesn’t bring the Bat’s head back in exchange for his mother. He never even touches Lex, and — interestingly — neither does Bruce at the end of the movie, when he has the opportunity to brand him in Arkham.
Both Batman and Superman show Lex mercy by the end of the movie, despite him killing and hurting a LOT of people.

World of Tomorrow
I am a Marvel shill. I love the comics, the worlds, the films; All of it. To this day, i am an MCU apologist, though, lately, that’s becoming harder and harder to do. I personally feel that, between the Big Two, Marvel is the superior company in all aspects, save one - animation. Marvel animated fair is pitiful in comparison to what DC has given us over the years. I mean, the Nineties were solid with the X-Men, FF, Spider-Man, Hulk, and Iron Man shows but Batman: The Animated Series trumps all of that. B:TAS is more than classic and gave birth to one of the most intricate, enduring, and entertaining franchises, ever. DC has had a penchant for animation since On Leather Wings first aired so long ago and that has continued to this day. I mean, they made kind of a detour with that mixed bag of a film universe based on the Nnu52, the DCAMU, but that got the reboot treatment with Justice League Dark: Apokolips War and gave birth to what looks to be a brand new franchise: The Tomorrowverse.
Superman: Man of Tomorrow

On the surface, this is a solid “Superman” origin story. In reality, it's a dogsh*t watch. This is the firt entry into the Tomorrowverse and it's definitely a mixed bag. Love the animation and art direction. Love the casting, outside of Lois Lane. Kind of hate the Parasite and Martian Manhunter redesigns. Really hate this universe's take on Lex Luthor. Out the box, for me, The Tomorrowverse stumbled and hasn't really recovered yet. The following two entries (three if you count the two part Long Halloween entry) are much, much, better. Unfortunately, the last two, so far, are much, much, worse.
Justice Society: World War II
I kind of liked this one. It’s basically Flashpoint mixed with New Frontier. It’s an interesting idea and the execution is there, but it feels like filler almost. Almost as if this is the jumping off point for something more. All in all, it’s kind of my favorite of the bunch, not named Long Halloween. It’s always dope seeing DC’s wildly overpowered take on heroes, participate in very much human conflict. All in all, solid watch.
Batman: The Long Halloween

I actually wrote and entire proper review on this when it first released. I loved it. Most accurate adaption of the iconic Bat-story to date and the best entry of The Tomorrowverse to date. Well worth a watch or two.
Green Lantern: Beware My Power

This on was weird as f*ck. Actually, to be honest, all of these are kind of weird as f*ck. All of the Tomorrowverse entries, except Halloween, are weird retellings of iconic narratives from the comics, but wrong? Like, this is definitely the origin story to Kyle Rayner’s take on Green Lantern, down to a really corny take on Parallax, but it was given to Jon Stewart. Hell, they threw in a little bit of sexual chemistry with Hawkgirl at the end as a nod to their DCAU romance. Ultimately, this thing was f*cking boring. Zero out of ten, would not recommend.
Legion of Super-Heroes

I think i liked this one even less than Green Lantern. I honestly have nothing good to say about it outside of the costumes are dope. That’s kind of it.
The Tomorrowverse is in it’s infancy but, so far, it’s underwhelming. The writing needs to be much better and the overarching plot should probably be much, much, more compelling. Still, i love the art style and character designs but, if I'm being honest, it’s worse than it’s predecessor. There’s still room to grow but if this is what tomorrow holds, I'm happy with what we got today.

As one of the first Phans, I think the major issue is that the graphic novel humanizes Vlad, something that most - if not all the phandom, sans the VladxDanny shippers - dislike. It's equivalent of being an apologist for Lex Luthor or Norman Osborne.
While Vlad's redemption suits the ghost's innate possessive nature, we try to blacklist it from our minds, because after all he had done, he still gets part of what he always wanted. That doesn't sit well with many.
this is my open letter to the people who harassed me over the years, trying to "cancel" my DP AU saying I was doing the character wrong.
"Go on. READ it. I'll wait for your return."
