You and Noah had known each other since you two could talk. He was always the rebellious one, you were the rule follower, you had to be. Your father was the Pastor of the Concrete Commune of Christ.

Coining its name based off of how "solid" the community’s connection to God was.

“Have you changed your ways yet?,” You question him, “I grew up with you, Noah, I really don’t want you to go to hell,”

“Oh, Dove you’re gonna go to hell too,” he smirks, all of this was a joke to him. He has made it clear to everyone in the commune, from a young age, how he feels about religion but they let him stay in hopes that the 28 year old will one day accept Jesus as his Lord and Savior.

“No I’m not,” you shriek, “I’m a follower of God, I live by the book,”

“You live by the book huh?,” he plucks the collar of your shirt, “Deuteronomy 22:11, ‘ye shall not wear cloth combining linen and wool’… your little sweater with the mock collar is a sin,”

“Leviticus 19:28,” you eye his tattoos, any time you two were near each other, it was a banter like this. Noah found it amusing but you were serious. You cared about everyone in the commune, you wanted them to make it to Heaven.

“I’ve made my peace with knowing I won’t make it to those pearly gates,” he gets closer, “If I did it’d probably be to spit in your God’s face and dethrone him,”

“Noah, that’s blasphemous!,” you gasp, “W-what… what is wrong with you?,”

“Your God makes no mistakes right? So he made me this way”

“Satan really has his claws in you,” you give a shaky breath.

“He’s a cool guy,” shrugging as if it were a normal statement, “He’s not as uptight with the rules to brainwash you all like cattle,”

“It’s not brainwash! This is the way. The word of God is the true light,”

“Why do you think he’s called the Shepherd, Dove? Because you’re all sheep. None of you think for yourselves. It won’t be long before your father is feeding you all kool aid and you all commit mass suicide,”

“You’re real nasty you know that?,” How dare you he question your faith. Your faith is all you’ve ever known and as far as you are aware, it's the reason you wake up every day.

He gets closer to where he’s whispering in your ear. He’s so haunting, so… unholy, you question how he doesn’t burst into flames when he walks through the doors of the sanctuary.

“I can show you a real baptism. I bet you’d look pretty in all white… wet… as you cleanse your soul of the dirty acts you’ve committed”

“W-we… we should really focus on getting the lesson together, Noah,” you scoot your chair away from him and turn back to your bible, “I think the book of Psalms will be a great place to start. We can teach the others about the protection the Lord gives as long as you believe and do right unto others,”

Noah played your little game. Giving you pointers for the lesson. For someone who rejected faith the way he did, he knew the Bible pretty well, better than you actually, and almost no one in the congregation knows the Bible better than you.

That’s what started your time spent together. Your father was wary of Noah, considering his tattoos and his music taste outside of the church but when he saw the way Noah studied the Bible with you, he figured you were a good influence, he figured that you were following in his footsteps and spreading the gospel.

Except that wasn’t the case.

Noah was planting seeds in the garden that was your mind. He sat beside you every Wednesday night and Sunday morning whispering in your ear. Deconstructing everything your father was speaking at the altar.

He was able to plant seeds of doubt so easily and that shook you. How solid was your faith if you could question it in just a few weeks? Maybe the Devil is trying to get you on his side, but you must stand firm. So you pray more, you sit at the altar more, you sing hymns so that the voice of doubt could be drowned out.

But it was proving to be pointless almost, you’d go home every night and find it hard to read the Bible. Finding it hard to believe in a God that let horrible things happen around the world and to innocent people.

How do you keep faith like that?

That’s how you find yourself in the pulpit of the church.

Looking up at the statue of the figure that you called Lord and Savior for the last twenty something years of your life.

“Lord, if you’re listening I really need you to keep me strong in my stance. If you’re really there why is my faith in you wavering? If you’re really up there… why don’t you help the poor? Why do you keep sister Paula in an unsafe situation with her husband? If you’re really there-,”

“No one is listening, Dove,”

He has a teasing edge to his tone. He’s making fun of you.

“No one is up there answering your prayers,” his voice gets closer until he’s sitting beside you, “You’re alone. You’re praying to a voice in your head. You want to know why he doesn’t help the poor? Because he isn’t real. And if he is… then he’s one selfish fuck. Wanna know why sister Paula stays with her abusive husband? Because your father brainwashes his congregation into believing that divorce is something that immediately sends you to hell. Either that or your God is a sadistic voyeur,”

You feel Noah wipe the tears off your face as you turn to look for him.

“There are no pearly gates… there is no eternal damnation. Everything you were taught was to keep you in line. To keep you docile. But I know you wanna be set free, Dove,”

“I will be forsaken,” there’s a tremble in your tone. Your wings have been clipped long enough and yet now that you have the option to fly, a part of you wants to stay caged.

“You’ve already been abandoned, Dove,” his spit covered thumb traces over your lips, “I can give you something to pray to. Something that’s tangible. Something you can see… touch…,”

“I can be your God,” he was so close to your face now, so close that his lips were touching yours, you could smell the sweet mint of his favorite gum, “I can make today your judgment day. I can walk you to the light, Dove,”

“H-how? You’re just a mortal like me,”

“You doubt me but believe in a man that rose on the third day?,” he was smiling as if your words were the world's best comedy. The congregation had its hooks in you deep. But it's okay, he'd remove them with ease.

“Noah. I don’t wanna go to hell,” you cried, it was hard to break free of all you were taught

“With me, heaven is the only place you’ll go. Follow me and I can show you the real way. Follow me and you won’t have to live your life in fear. Follow me… and I will show you how a real God treats his followers,”

Before you can answer, Noah is taking your hand and guiding you to your father’s study, locking the door before letting go of your hand.

“You claim to know the Bible front and back and can’t recite one of the easiest scriptures?,”

“You’re forgetting a vital piece of that scripture, Dove,” his hands are touching you now and you find it embarrassing when his grip has to tighten when your knees buckle.

“I am not-,”

“I hate my people worshiping other Gods,” he answers plainly, “Your God admits there are others amongst him. He’s just a greedy…,”

what is the Gospel?

history . .

there is one God in 3 persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

God existed before anything else did; He created all things perfectly, including human beings, who He made in His image (Genesis 1:1, 26-28, John 1:1-3). God is the only holy, perfect Being in existence, and He created us to know Him forever.

God created humanity to partner with Him in ruling His perfect creation, however, humanity quickly fell into rebellion when adam & eve listened to temptation from satan, the serpent. the serpent twisted God's Word and adam & eve trusted in their own judgement rather than God's and listened to their selfish desire to define good and evil for themselves instead of letting God show them what was holy & good (Genesis 3).

adam & eve were cast out from God's perfect garden, severing ALL of humanity's relationship with God and separating us from His presence. because of this original sin (disobeying and distorting God's Word), all of humanity is born in a sinful state. the serpent, too, was cast from the garden and since the original sin, has been influencing the world into more and more evil, temptation, and distance from God. however, God promised that there would be a Descendant from eve Who would crush the serpent's head and defeat him (Genesis 3:14-15).

the sinful state of humanity causes all of us to be separated from God from birth and into eternity; sin cannot coexist with utter purity & holiness (Romans 6:23, 8:7-8).

God stayed faithful in taking care of humanity even despite our separation from Him; He made promises to abraham, isaac, and jacob, and their descendants (the jewish nation israel named after jacob), that they would be God's people and He would be their God (Genesis 22:17, Jeremiah 32: 38). He promised to multiply them, making them a countlessly large nation, to set them apart from the other nations to show the world what God is like (Deuteronomy 7:6), and to send them a Savior who would restore all things and bring justice (Isaiah 9:6). God gave them His Word and fulfilled every promise to them; He rescued His people many times from oppression and the downfall of their own mistakes, yet not even His holy people could stay obedient to God. God gave them His law (found in the 5 books of the Torah) to show His people how to be holy (set apart) and to show them who He is and what He values; in order to be worthy to enter God's presence, there would be animal sacrifices and sanctification rituals (Leviticus 16:21) in order to atone for the sins of Israel (God's people), yet none of His people were perfect and kept rebelling against Him.

God started sending prophets into the world, spoken to by His Holy Spirit who divinely inspired the Word of God (the entire Bible), to warn Israel of the gravity of their sins; soon, if God's people would keep participating in evil and turning away from God, they would be exiled from all of the peace and possessions God had promised them and fulfilled them with.

The Good News . .

Jesus is God, described as the Son of God and the Word of God become human; Jesus took on human flesh yet stayed completely sinless (Hebrews 4:15). He gave His life in the place of all of humanity, not just Israel, in order to extend God's grace, salvation, and presence, to anyone of any background who would repent and call upon Him (Hebrews 2:17, Galatians 3:8).

"The Gospel" means "the Good news."

to repent, means to completely turn around.

atone, means to make amends.

Jesus became the sacrificial lamb (symbolically) in order to fulfill the law of sacrifice that God's people used to participate in in order to enter God's presence (John 1:29, 1 Peter 1:19); because Jesus is God and was the only One holy enough to perfectly atone, this means that Jesus' sacrifice not only fulfilled every law and prophecy, but humanity finally had the chance to be in right-standing with God (1 Timothy 2:5). this means, that instead of being enemies of God, being estranged or distant from God, we now have the right to become God's children, His people, and His friends (Romans 5:10, John 1:12). to repent of our sins, means to pray to God our Father and confess our sinful nature, our rebellion, and the things we have done that have hurt our relationship with God as well as hurt ourselves & those around us. by confessing, we ask for God's forgiveness, we confess who Jesus is and what He did for us, and through this, we receive the Holy Spirit who testifies that we are God's children and Who seals our salvation in Heaven for eternity (Romans 8:16, 2 Corinthians 1:21-22).

Jesus came to earth as a human, yet also 100% God; He lived a perfect life, started His ministry at 30 years old, baptised, healed, drove out demons, and taught of God's character, Word, and Kingdom. Jesus was persecuted by the nation of Israel in order to fulfill the prophecies, He died on a cross, was tortured and killed in our place, and after 3 days He rose from the dead, to fulfill every prophecy (Mark 8:31). in Jesus' death and resurrection, He defeated our sins, He defeated the enemy (satan), and He defeated death. setting us free, giving us eternal life and forgiveness from the Father if we repent and believe that this is Who Jesus Is.

in Jesus, there is forgiveness, peace, healing, joy, & hope (Galatians 5:22-23, 1 Peter 1:3). God heals, God saves, God loves, His Spirit guides and reassures every believer and Jesus completely sets us free; no matter what you have said or done, no matter how much seems to hold you back, Jesus breaks every chain and meets us where we are, however, He loves us too much to leave us as we are. Jesus gives us the ability to live the life of righteousness (right-living) that God intended for us that we were not able to fruitfully & fully do without Jesus and without God's active help. for all time, God has kept His promises and His Word, He has kept His covenant with those He chose to be His people, and while those people always failed, Jesus never has and never will; Jesus fulfilled our side of the covenant, He paid the price that had to be paid for our sins, and in doing so, we can now have relationship with God for eternity, we can now partner with God in loving His people and doing the work of His Kingdom. God is always near, always present, and desires to help you, heal you, and save you.

How to view tattoos? I got into discussion with someone who said that we could not use Leviticus 19:28 to condemn them since that was the Mosaic Law. Not something I would agree tho since while we aren't under the Mosaic Law that doesn't mean nothing from the OT is gone (2 Timothy 3:16). And since tattoos destroy our body which is God's temple (1 Cor 6:19-20), I don't think tattoos are lawful in spite of there not being a NT verse against them.

If you think we have to obey Leviticus 19:28 to a T then to be consistent you have to include verse 27 as well.

You shall not round off the hair on your temples or mar the edges of your beard. You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the LORD.

We have to consider why God is commanding these things. These were practices of pagan cultures like the one Israel came out of in Egypt. Pagan priests cut themselves to commune with the dead and worship false gods and they tattooed themselves with the names of false gods. The problem is the worship, not the tattoo itself. People don’t look at tattoos anymore and automatically think you’re worshiping a demon. God commanded these things to separate Israel as His own and now Christ and our obedience to Him separates us.

Regarding the body being the temple of the Holy Spirit, people often use that phrase to say “my body is important to me so I should take care of it by being healthy.” It is wise to steward our bodies well and take care of the gifts God gave us (though I think you have a debatable case saying tattoos “destroy” the body), but the context is about not using your body to sin, such as committing sexual immorality.

Tattoos are an issue of wisdom and Christian liberty. Each person has to make their own decisions on how to best use their body for God’s glory. If you’re convicted by it, don’t get one. But we can’t put laws on people the Bible doesn’t or judge them by external things instead of the heart

Stephanie Meyer in her“The Twilight Saga: Official Illustrated Guide” wrote that vampire pallor is part of the transformation new vampires undergo that beautifies them as their melanin drains away, resulting in their white skin.

Ok, apparently, Mormons think black and dark-skinned people are in some way descendants of Cain, who was banished from human community and condamned by God to a nomadic life. However, God was pleased by blood sacrifice (God favored Abel who killed animals for God, while Cain offered the products of earth he cultivated) and gives Cain a mark, known as “Mark of Cain” (Genesis 4:15). This mark of Cain is God's promise to offer Cain divine protection from premature death with the stated purpose of preventing anyone from killing him. Bible does not identify the exact nature of the mark God put on Cain. Whatever it was, it was a sign/indicator that Cain was not to be killed (but also a warn that helped others to spot him as a murder to not trust). Some propose that the mark was a scar, or some kind of tattoo (Maybe this is the source of Tattoo Prohibition in Leviticus 19:28). Whatever the case, the precise nature of the mark is not the focus of the passage. The focus is that God would not allow people to exact vengeance against Cain. Whatever the mark on Cain was, it served this purpose.

However, Brigham Young, one of the founders of Mormons and one of the earliest leader, described black people as cursed with dark skin as punishment for Cain’s murder of his brother. “Any man having one drop of the seed of Cane in him cannot hold the priesthood,” he declared in 1852. Young deemed black-white intermarriage so sinful that he suggested that a man could atone for it only by having “his head cut off” and spilling “his blood upon the ground.”

NOT BEING LIKE A MULE WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING

"DO NOT BE LIKE THE HORSE OR LIKE THE MULE, WHICH HAVE NO UNDERSTANDING, Which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, Else they will not come near you."

• A believer considers as a mule without understanding is someone or a person who is being dealt with or disciplined by God in order to get his or her attention; to correct or make adjustments about certain aspects of their life.

- Such a believer also could be said to be dull of hearing, in the Bible term or language (Hebrews 5:11).

- There are many believers in this state or category. They professed to be born-again, quite all right, but they are not sensitive or discerning.

- Such believers could not receive or get or deduce the messages being passed across to them, by God, through whatever they are passing through.

- Most of the things happening in such a person's or believer's life are messages meant to discipline or break him or her, mould and shape and transform them in their characters, but the person would not, because of the dullness in their hearing or discerning (Hebrews 5:11).

- Such a believer always blames or attributes whatever wrong that happens to them as the fault of someone or people around them. They would never see the hand of God in it, and they would not see these negative events in their lives as God's hand of discipline or shaping or moulding—they rather would blame someone as the cause.

- Such people or believers are considered to be like a mule without understanding (Psalm 32:9). They are being disciplined and wounded, yet they would not see it as God's hand of correction or discipline. In most cases, such people would not see God in it at all!

- Although God would not want a child of His, a believer to be like that, thus, the admonition in the text: "DO NOT BE LIKE THE HORSE OR LIKE THE MULE, WHICH HAVE NO UNDERSTANDING . . ." (Psalm 32:19 NKJV).

• God chastises and corrects, remoulds and reshapes, or regenerates, through discipline. It is one of the most effective tools, If not the main, which God uses in changing and transforming believers.

- Using discipline to effect a change in humans is usually effective and is always responded to quickly. It usually brings a desired result. However, God does not always want those who are His to suffer or pass through some things, challenges, but He could not help It because of humans' rebellious nature.

- Correction through discipline or chastisement always yield a good result: "FOR THE TIME BEING NO DISCIPLINE BRINGS JOY, BUT SEEMS SAD AND PAINFUL; yet to those who have been trained by it, AFTERWARDS IT YIELDS THE PEACEFUL FRUIT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS [right standing with God and a lifestyle and attitude that seeks conformity to God’s will and purpose]" (Hebrews 12:11 Amps).

- This method is the major way through which God breaks or reshapes whoever He purposes to use for an assignment. The method is for every believer in Christ Jesus.

- So, for discipline or chastisement to be minimal or less severe or stringent; cooperation, prompt obedience, and a changed heart are expected or required from a believer who is being trained by God (Leviticus 26:14-16,21-28).

• The Admonition in our text is, a believer should not be like a horse or a mule that needed to be harnessed or yoked with bit and bridle (Psalm 32:9), before it could be put into action or service—understand what to be done.

- In other words, a believer should not be like animals that needed to be flogged or forced before they obey and do the right thing.

- One of the signs that shows or indicates that you are rigid is, you would discover that God's hand is always severe on you whenever you missed it on whatever you are expected to do.

- A rigid person with a strong Will would always receive severer discipline or chastisement in his or her walk with God.

- Human's Will which is a part of his or her soul is the most difficult part to get to oblige or agree with whatever God intended to do in, or through, a believer's life.

- Someone with a strong Will would always receive severer discipline or chastisement than any average believer who is bendy or pliable.

- This is the reason why some believers usually face a lot of challenges, just because they are rigid and strong-headed; more force or pressure would have to be applied on them before they yielded and summited to God's plan and Will for their lives.

• The intention of God is not to annihilate the human Will, thought, and emotion, but to transform them to be under the control of His own Will or Word or plan for each individual believer.

- God wants your thought or mind, Will, and emotion, to be submissive to Him—be under His guide and control.

- Note: If God took away or annihilated the human soul that comprises the Will, mind or thought, and emotion; humans would not be different from a robot. God still wants every human to be able to use his or her mind or thought, emotion, and Will, but under His guide and control or influence.

- Since the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit, lives on the inside of your spirit, the inward Man or newly created human spirit; thus, He wants your thought or mind, emotion, and Will, to be directed and control from there—your spirit where the Holy Spirit dwells.

- You are free to use your Will, emotion, and thought, but under the guidance of the Holy Spirit through your recreated human spirit. Thus, If your Will is contradictory to His own Will for you on whatever you wanted to do, He would not support It, and such a thing would be made difficult to achieve or accomplish.

- God will not render a believer's mind, emotion, and Will useless after being saved, but He would want him or her to align their souls which is the custodian of these three components—mind, will, and emotion—to agree with His own plans.

- It is when this is not agreed with that the rod of discipline or chastisement would be applied. The believer who refuses and rigidly wants to have his or her way would be made to Will or agree with whatever the plan of God is: "FOR IT IS GOD WHO WORKS IN YOU BOTH TO WILL AND TO DO FOR HIS GOOD PLEASURE" (Philippians 2:13 NKJV).

- This is the life God wants every believer to live. The life is where whatever you chose to do is in line with His Word or principles—His plans and programmes concerning your life.

- Whatever is not of God in your body that might be working against your wellness and good health, such is cursed and completely uprooted in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

IF you are yet to take the step of salvation, that is, yet to be born-again, do it now, tomorrow might be too late (2 Corinthians 6:1,2; Hebrews 3:7,8,15).

a. Acknowledge that you are a sinner and confess your Sins (1 John 1:9); And ask Jesus Christ to come into your life (Revelation 3:20).

b. Confess that you believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is Lord, and that you confess it with your mouth, Thus, you accept Him As your Lord and Saviour (Romans 10:9,10).

c. Ask that He will write your name in the Book of Life (Philippians 4:3; Revelation 3:8).

I guess my biggest concern is the fact that those anti-queer scriptures seem to be so direct… However, I do see steps being taken to combat homophobia even if it’s something like treating someone who are queer with equal respect as you would treat anyone else.

I think the scriptures which are used to say homosexuality is wrong are largely used incorrectly. Here's a quick run down of the "clobber verses" (and I included links to a longer write up about each one):

Genesis 19:1-11 - The men of the city of Sodom want to harm two strangers in a way that they go forth and say how horrible the city is so that it keeps other strangers from coming to the city. Their plan to do this was to rape the two visitors. The Bible is clear about what the sins are of Sodom--pride, lack of concern for the poor and needy, hatred of strangers and cruelty to guests, arrogance, evil doing, injustice, oppression of the widow and orphan, adultery, and lying (gay sex is not on the list)

Leviticus 18:22 & 20:13 - this is part of the purity code which includes things like kill disobedient children, don't eat or touch pork, don't touch a woman who is menstruating, and on and on. This code was meant to make Israel distinct from the other people who lived in Canaan. Modern Christians ignore almost the entire code, except for these verses about a male-male sex act.

Romans 1:26-28 - The passage these verses are taken from also condemns people who gossip, who disobey their parents, people who have sex with someone they’re not married to, people who boast, murderers, deceivers, and the list keeps going on. These specific verses are saying not to behave in a way that is against the nature of who God created you to be. Gay people are gay, so how is it that these verses are used to say gay people should act against the way God created them?

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 and 1 Timothy 1:9-10 - I put these 2 verses together because the meaning of both of them depends on the translation of a word created by Paul and its meaning isn't clear. Putting aside translation issues and possible meanings, let's think about what if Paul really was condemning sex between 2 men, why do we take this seriously but ignore his other teachings about sex? Paul says everyone should be celibate, only the weakest who can't hack celibacy should get married and that their sex should be passionless.

Out of the whole Bible, these 6 scriptures are said to be anti-gay sex, and they are a part of lists of forbidden things which are otherwise largely ignored by modern Christians. The Bible says so much against greed and being rich, yet in America, where a majority are Christian, greed & wealth are considered good. We pick and choose which things of the Bible to follow and which to ignore, and for some reason Christians have decided to focus on any verses that seem to be anti-gay

As a Latter-day Saint, isn't it interesting the scriptures meant for our day (Book of Mormon and Doctrine & Covenants) are entirely silent about forbidding gay people to have relationships?

Lol got curious about my fellow Christians' takes on tattoos, looked up articles and interpretations, and the first one I read takes Leviticus 19:28 to mean that all tattoos are sinful, and this is one thing they said

Imagine calling snakes, spiders, and bats immoral. Bro. These are literally creatures created by God. So were dragons. There are so many legitimately evil and satanic images that people DO get tattooed on them, and the person who wrote this decided to choose animals??? God's animals?? And if you think the snake and dragon part is somehow justified, it's not. Satan took the form of a snake in the garden of Eden, Satan is not a snake. Snakes are not evil. They are still used as a symbol of cunning and stealth only because of their natural animalistic behavior. And yes revelation mentions a dragon as part of the unholy trinity being cast into the flame, but that doesn't mean regular dragons that flew around with the dinosaurs were evil (if they were real - idk I'm not an expert on this. But if they were real they were not evil)

I respect you if you are a Christian and interpret tattoos as being inherently sinful, but at least come up with a better argument than this.
