[In February, 2023], a small warehouse in the English city of Nottingham received the crucial final components for a project that leverages the power of used EV batteries to create a new kind of circular economy.
Inside, city authorities have installed 40 two-way electric vehicle chargers that are connected to solar panels and a pioneering battery energy storage system, which will together power a number of on-site facilities and a fleet of 200 municipal vehicles while simultaneously helping to decarbonize the UK’s electrical grid.
Each day Nottingham will send a combination of solar-generated energy — and whatever is left in the vehicles after the day’s use — from its storage devices into the national grid.  The so-called “vehicle to grid” chargers deliver this energy just when it’s needed most, during peak evening demand, when people are home cooking, using hot water or watching TV. Later, the same chargers pull energy from the grid to recharge the vehicles in the wee hours of the night, when folks are sleeping and electricity is cheaper and plentiful.
“We are trying to create a virtual power station,” says Steve Cornes, Nottingham City Council’s Technical Lead. “The solar power and battery storage will help us operate independently and outside of peak times, making our system more resilient and reducing stress on the national grid. We could even make a profit.” ...
After around a decade, an EV battery no longer provides sufficient performance for car journeys. However, they still can retain up to 80 percent of their original capacity, and with this great remaining power comes great reusability.
“As the batteries degrade, they lose their usefulness for vehicles,” says Matthew Lumsden, chairman of Connected Energy. “But batteries can be used for so many other things, and to not do so results in waste and more mining of natural resources.”
The E-STOR hubs come in the form of 20-foot modular containers, each one packed with 24 repurposed EV batteries from Renault cars. Each hub can provide up to 300kW of power, enough to provide energy to dozens of homes. One study by Lancaster University, commissioned by Connected Energy, calculated that a second life battery system saved 450 tons of CO2 per MWh over its lifetime...
Battery repurposing and recycling is set to play a massive role over the coming years as the automobile industry attempts to decarbonize and the world more broadly attempts to fight waste. The production of EVs, which use lithium-ion batteries, is accelerating. Tesla, for example, is aiming to sell 20 million EVs per year by 2030 — more than 13 times the current level. In turn, 12 million tons of EV batteries could become available for reuse by 2030, according to one estimate.
“Over the next decade we are going to see this gigantic wave,” says Jessica Dunn, a senior analyst at the Union of Concerned Scientists. “Companies are recognizing this is a necessary industry. They need to ramp up infrastructure for recycling and reuse.”

WTF!
I was watching a new episode of Leverage: Redemption on tv when in the very middle of the show- not in the commercial block, the actual show- an advertisement for the other shows on the channel showed up. No audio, visual only. They even had a sign saying there is no audio for their little mini-commercial, and they still had the audio track for the actual show playing so we don’t miss the show... WTF ion, WTF?
Edit: the words over the clips of other shows says “temp footage -- no audio”. They put it up again.

How to use roomba?
The large picture
That imaging detector on the Roomba is not the only way it could find out things about its surroundings. In addition, it has one which monitors the ground as the robot goes over it, and wheel odometry, meaning it could infer just how far it's traveled, .
The i7, however,"will now remember the surroundings that it has been conducted in that the past and be in a position to leverage that historic info on the present cleaning assignment," he states. It was a robot with no memory. Jones contrasts those kinds of markers inside your house, and their connection to one another, two stars forming constellations that permit the robot to localize itself on your residence. It is also using this cloud info around these landmarks are stored there to mention to the Roomba.
All this implies that the Roomba is going to be fine if experiences exactly what the robotics industry calls the"robot kidnapping issue," Jones states: that is what happens when somebody chooses up the robot and moves into a new location.
Ultimately, it is also the very first Roomba to develop a docking station (known as the sterile Base) that drains out the bot's dust bin, making a loud sound and sucking on the dirt into a tote which holds 30 robot debris-dumps until you want to throw it out--you will eventually have to purchase more luggage for that piece. You can buy , although Together with the sterile Base, the prices 949. The key part of the Roomba is the imaging detector on the top. The generation Roomba -- that the 900 series -- had too, but an upgrade to the hardware and the software has given a better memory than its ancestors to this. That preceding generation could make a map of your house as it cruised about, but the technology was not yet developed enough yet to get this particular to keep that map (or perhaps maps of numerous houses, since this one may ) in its own ion mind.
The imaging detector, which points up and forward, is vital for this procedure. It is not a camera. Rather, what it is searching for is something easier:"a couple of pixels within a picture that form a exceptional light pattern," Jones states. The things? "This might be the corner of the TV from a white wall," he clarifies, and possibly alongside it is a photo frame"with its contour of dark and light." Among Roomba's competitor's, Neato, utilizes a laser-based mapping program, but it does not have exactly the exact same sort of space recognition which lets you send it into certain zones in any certain time.
It is a strategy which makes sense in the family level, since GPS would not be true enough and does not work well indoors. (Another means that more sophisticated robotics systems, such as self-driving automobiles, determine where they're is by employing a spinning laser method --LIDAR--cameras, and radar, however that kind of gear will be surplus on a vacuum)
This adds up to is a Roomba
that may remember its surroundings, and that means that you are able to tag the map onto the corresponding program by room type then tell the vacuum to clean out a particular area by title. IRobot claims that the device can recall around ten floorplans, which means that you may"kidnap" it, draw it into some brand new location, and it'll learn you, too.

What was your favorite childhood tv show and why?
Literally every single show I watched as a kid just disappeared from my head haha. I know I watched a lot of Leverage, Psych, Burn Notice and Cold Case growing up because we didn’t have cable so we relied on Ion Television as our only channel that wasn’t the news. WB17 was also big in my house so like Smallville, What I Like About You, 7th Heaven, Gilmore Girls, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, THE ORIGINAL Teen Titans, were on a lot.
I specifically remember one episode of Smallville where Lois I think gets transported back in time or something like that happens but she ends up being possessed by a witch who was burned at the stake during Salem. Like I specifically remember the stake burning but nothing else haha.
Also watched some soaps and, again, specifically remember one where one woman LITERALLY stabs another woman in the back with a pair of scissors and then dragged them down her back.
Watched a lot of game shows with my grandparents like the Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune. On Saturdays mornings ABC would turn into Disney Channel and play all the episodes of the week so like watched a lot of Lizzie McGuire and Kim Possible, Sabrina the Teenage Witch and . There was also stuff like Arthur and Dragon Tales and ZOOM omg I loved Zoom so much.
Clearly I watched a TON of tv as a kid haha but I know I’m forgetting so many. They’ll come to me tho, they will.

Your Favorite Local T.V Channel?
As someone who's dirt poor, we don't have cable. You know what we do have? An actual tv antenna. Old-school. But we still get good channels: ABC, CBS, NBC, KTLA and FOX.
But my FAVORITE channels... Are actually some pretty obscure ones. Here's a list:
COMET: Regularly airs old sci Fi movies and B horror movies, along with the sci Fi tv classics like Stargate SG-1, Star trek and Babylon 5. 10/10, my fave channel. I've seen Carrie, Twins of Evil, and Labyrinth, and some other good Steven King stuff on there.
H&I: Heroes and Icons. Lots of old school adventure type shows including : Hercules, Xena the Warrior Princess, all the Star treks, and lots of police dramas from the '90s.
ION TV: "positive entertainment". That's hilarious because they regularly air Criminal Minds. I've also seen TNT's Leverage on this channel, and Psych. During the holidays, this channel basically turns into our local Hallmark channel with all the "there was only one bed" Christmas romance tropes we could ask for.
Justice: CRIME TV EXTRAVAGANZA. Basically a lot of older true crime shows. Right now, they're airing something called Most Evil, but I've also seen Dr.G Medic Examiner. My mom has recently gotten into true crime podcasts, so this channel really supplements her (who am I kidding our, lol) obsession with real life cases from 10+ years ago
Quest: I've recently discovered this channel, but it seems to be a local HISTORY type channel. They show a version of "how it's made" called Factory Made and Mystery Quest which is a docuseries about various mysteries around the world.
BOUNCE: our local version of BET. I've seen a lot of good black movies on this channel, stuff I never even knew existed. They also have various daytime soaps/ dramas.
NHK: great Japanese channel with a world news segment, also has documentaries and travel shows.
So those are my fave Local Channels I watch without Cable! Any other cable free households have a fave channel? I'd love to meet a fellow Comet Fan!

Idk how many followers you have but you can probably reach more Leverage fans than I can. The TV channel Ion is playing Leverage reruns from 7/6c am to 11/10c am on weekdays and they seem to be going in order, for those that don't have access to other ways of watching it.

O-YAKI Partners with NewsWatch TV
The O-YAKI Skewer System is possibly the most efficient system for cooking skewers on the market today. The unique design allows you to cook multiple skewers simultaneously with even cooking and, most importantly, minimal loss of juices.
The system is innovative and perfectfor those who love eating off a stick or hosting a skewer party. And because it works in an oven, grill, tandooror roaster, it’s ideal for any set-up.
After O-YAKI launched, they needed a smart marketing campaign to capitalize on the innovation of the system. The company turned to NewsWatch TV to help craft a campaign that would garner customers. Turns out this was the right move.
The online campaign reached over 800,000 consumers with over 14,000 buyers engaging with their site. In addition to the digital campaign, they also leveraged NewsWatch’s paid content show for further exposure.
NewsWatch’s early-morning monthly show airs on basic cable channels like AMC and ION, and beams out to nearly 100 million households in the U.S. It covers every major TV market and is a great alternative for small and medium sized companies who don’t have an endless marketing account to play with.
The campaign was a huge success and even notched a 4.8 out of 5 rating on Gadget Flow as a result of the O-YAKI segment airing on NewsWatch TV.
This is a typical story out of the NewsWatch TV camp. A client turns to them for a budget-conscious marketing campaign with dreams of reaching a large swathe of the population and NewsWatch delivers. The following they’ve gained over more than three decades on the air has contributed to their ability to gain massive exposure for their clients.
Sometimes having an innovative product isn’t enough. You need smart marketing that spreads the word and gets eyes on your product. That’s what NewsWatch does and at a budget that virtually any company can afford.

The Ultimate Construction Holiday Gift Guide 2020
Tumblr media
Another year is about ready to wrap up as the holiday season is upon us. It’s the most wonderful time of the year, but it can be stressful for those in your life that are hard to buy for, especially those in the construction trades. Our goal is to make that process easier for you or your loved one with our top picks for gifts every year!
For more gift ideas, be sure to check out our Ultimate Construction Holiday Gift Guides from 2017, 2018, and 2019 or our past Father's Day Gift Guides from 2018, 2019, and 2020.
I’ve been lucky enough to be able to use many of the tools on this list throughout the year and there are others on the list that I’d love to try because they have been highly regarded in reviews.  It should be assumed that the tool manufacturers have given us these tools for free to test out, but none of them have paid to be a part of this gift guide. All tools on this list have been chosen by me, because I think they would be great gifts.
This post contains affiliate links, which earn us a small commission for the things that you buy.  The prices in the links are exactly the same as they would be normally!

Zenith Industries ZN700001 Trim Puller Buy on Amazon
Trim Puller Multi-Tool
If you’ve ever had to pull baseboard, crown molding, or other trim work, you know it’s pretty easy to either damage the trim or the wall behind it in the process. I picked up a Trim Puller recently and it makes saving trim extremely easy and greatly reduces damage to the wall.  Just line it up with the joint of the trim against the wall, hit the back of it with a hammer and the trim pops loose.

Vaughan & Bushnell 4300 Dalluge Da Bar By Dalluge Nail Puller, 12" Buy on Amazon
Vaughan & Bushnell 4300 Dalluge Da Bar Nail Puller
Whether your building new or demolishing existing, chances are you’ll need to pull a nail somewhere. The DA Bar was another one of my recent purchases and its beauty is the ability to dig its claws into wood to expose sunken nails and the leverage it provides to pull it out. The nail puller comes in 8”, 10”, 11”, and 12” sizes.

Spring Tools PM407 Nail Set and Hinge Pin Tool Buy on Amazon
Spring Tools PM407 Nail Set and Hinge Pin Tool
Removing hinge pins on doors are annoying and using a screw driver can cause damage to the finish on the hinge. Spring Tools not only has a spring loaded hinge pin remover, but also a nail set for those pesky nails that refuse to be driven flush to the surface. Both of these have come in extremely handy for me recently and it’s also another tool that I’ve purchased.
Tumblr media
Starrett ProSite Miter Saw Protractor Buy on Amazon
Starrett ProSite Miter Saw Protractor
As every contractor knows, wall corners are rarely ever 90 degrees. The Starrett Miter Saw Protractor, another one of my recent purchases, is a low tech way of finding the exact angle of the cut that you need, whether it’s joining 2 pieces together or making a single cut. This simple tool takes a lot of frustration out of the finishing process.

Malco MSHXLC 6-inch Reversible and Cleanable 1/4-inch and 5/16-inch Magnetic Hex Driver (1-pack) Buy on Amazon
Malco MSHXLC 6-inch Reversible and Cleanable 1/4-inch and 5/16-inch Magnetic Hex Driver
¼” and 5/16” hex head fasteners are extremely common on jobsites and this magnetic driver bit combines those two sizes into one. This bit is a favorite of technicians in the HVAC-R trades, but most will find it to be pretty handy to have for a variety of tasks.

Klein Tools Digital Circuit Breaker Finder with GFCI Outlet Tester ET310 Klein Tools
Klein Tools Digital Circuit Breaker Finder
If your house is like mine, the labeling system inside your circuit breaker box is an absolute mess, which makes it extremely difficult to find the correct breaker to turn off when needed.  The Klein Tools Digital Circuit Breaker finder is a 2-in-1 tool that not only can confirm that your outlets have been properly wired, but it can also help you easily locate the correct breaker an outlet is wired to. Simply plug the outlet tester into an outlet, bring the receiver wand to your breaker panel, and run the receiver down each breaker until the light indicates that the correct breaker has been found. Of course, you should ALWAYS double check that power has been turned off to whatever electrical system you need to work on before beginning.

ISOtunes LINK Bluetooth Hearing Protection: OSHA Compliant Noise Isolation Earmuff Headphones, 14+ Hour Battery Life, Included Rechargeable Lithium Ion or AAA batteries, 23dB NRR, 85dB Safe Max Volume Buy on Amazon
Isotunes Link Earmuff Headphones
I’ve included some version of Isotunes on nearly every one of my gift guides, because they offer a rugged product with sound dampening technology. Last year, the brand released a rechargeable, cord free version of their ear buds, but this year, they have released their first set of earmuffs, by popular request of their customers. The Isotunes Link headphones reduce noise by 24 decibels, have an IPX4 rating for water and sweat resistance, provide 14+ hours of runtime on the included lithium-ion rechargeable battery, or 28+ hours with 3- AAA batteries.

BOSCH GLM400CL Blaze Outdoor 400 ft Bluetooth Connected Laser Measure with Camera & Lithium-Ion Battery C & J Direct GmbH & Co. KG
Bosch GLM400CL Outdoor Laser Measure
The Bosch GLM400CL is the coolest laser I’ve ever used, because it solves a laser measure’s biggest problem: sunlight.  With the use of a built-in camera and on-screen crosshairs, this measure lets users measure up to 400 feet away without the need to see where the laser is pointing. This laser will set you back around $300, so if you don’t want to spend that kind of cash, Bosch makes plenty of other great laser measures that won’t break the bank.  Their GLM30 model has a 100’ range and can be found for around $70 currently.

TRUEWERK Men's Work Pants - T2 WerkPant Technical Workwear, 32W X 32L Wolf Grey Buy on Amazon
Truewerk Work Pants
Truewerk makes some seriously comfortable work pants.  You may like your jeans, but your jeans aren’t water repellent, stain and wind resistant while also being breathable and stretchable for increased mobility.
The T3 Werkpants are made for the colder months, as they are fleece lined for additional insulation.  I’ve been wearing mine for a couple weeks and they truly do make a difference.
For warmer climates, the T2 Werkpants are not lined, but have all of the same features as the T3. For even warmer climates, the T1 Werkpants are even thinner and more breathable than the T2.  I have all 3 versions, most of which I have purchased myself and they’re quickly becoming my favorite pants for not only working, but for a casual look when I leave the house.

Milwaukee 2951-20 M12 Lithium-Ion Cordless Jobsite Radio/Bluetooth Speaker with Built-In Charger (Tool Only) Buy on Amazon
Milwaukee M12 Cordless Bluetooth/AM/FM Jobsite Radio with Charger
If you’re on a jobsite that allows music, this compact 12V battery-powered radio from Milwaukee is an easy-to-transport and easy to use radio and Bluetooth speaker. You’re not going to be blown away by the volume it puts out, but that’s probably for the best, as contractors need to be aware of their surroundings on a jobsite. It connects very easily on the Bluetooth setting and I’ve been pleased with the sound quality and runtime from a 2.0ah battery. It can also be plugged in for infinite runtime and for battery charging.
Tumblr media
Dewalt DWST08400 ToughSystem 2.0 Extra Large Toolbox Buy on Amazon
DeWalt Toughsystem 2.0
Modular tool storage can make anyone in construction more efficient, as it helps them stay organized, while also making it much easier to get all of the tools they need on and off the jobsite. DeWalt has recently updated their popular rugged storage solution, Toughsystem, with an updated version called Toughsystem 2.0. It features and easier to use, one-handed latching system, upgraded latches and wheels, the ability to connect new half-width cases, and add interior trays for the deeper boxes.
The Toughsystem 2.0 is also reverse compatible with the original version, other than a few exceptions, but the updates make this storage system much easier to use and more versatile.

Werner Leansafe X3
Buy at Home Depot
LEANSAFE X3 6 ft. Fiberglass Professional 3-in-1 Multi-Purpose Ladder
Ladders are one of the most dangerous tools on any jobsite and much of that can be attributed to using the wrong type of ladder for the task. The good news is that Werner has solved that problem for many different situations with the Leansafe X3. Not only can this ladder be safely used as a step/a-frame ladder, it’s also designed to be leaned against a wall (something that most tradesmen do with other stepladders, but aren’t supposed to), and the back of the ladder can be extended vertically to transform the ladder into a straight ladder, giving the user several additional feet of climbing height.
This Type 1AA ladder has a load capacity of 375 pounds, making it super sturdy to go along with its versatility.

MILWAUKEE HYDROBREAK RAINSHELL JACKET Buy on Amazon
Milwaukee HYDROBREAK Layer Rain Shell Jacket
Fall, winter and spring can come with some pretty cold and rainy days, so it’s important to keep yourself or the contractor in your life dry and warm on those days. I’ve been wearing this Milwaukee Hydrobreak jacket for over a year and it’s my go-to for days I have to be in a wet environment. It’s thin enough to not make you uncomfortable on warmer days, but also provides wind resistance to match the water resistance if you want to wear a thermal layer underneath on colder days. Combine it with a base layer of a Milwaukee M12 heated jacket for maximum warmth.
Tumblr media
Helly Hansen Women’s Luna Winter Jacket
buy at helly hansen
Helly Hansen Luna Women’s Winter Jacket
For the female contractors working in cold climates, this new Helly Hansen Luna Winter Jacket is a high-quality, lightweight, waterproof, and windproof jacket perfect for the jobsite.  Like many brands have discovered recently, you can’t just shrink down a men’s version of workwear and call it a women’s size, it has to be completely redesigned to meet the needs of the women wearing them, which is exactly what Helly Hansen has done with the Luna collection.
Tumblr media
DEWALT 20V Max XR Cordless Router, Brushless, Tool Only (DCW600B), Black-v186, Mini-v186 Buy on Amazon
DeWalt 20-Volt MAX XR Lithium-Ion Cordless Brushless Router
A few different cordless trim routers have hit the market in recent months and I picked up the DeWalt version a few weeks ago and have been extremely pleased with it. It’s powerful, quiet, and smooth, making it easy to control while adding those finishing touches to your trimwork.  It also has plenty of power to cut out windows and doors in plywood for framers.

Keen Utility Men's Chicago 6” Composite Toe Waterproof Metatarsal Guard Work Boot Construction, Tobacco/Black, 11 Buy on Amazon
Keen Utility Chicago Work Boot
Heading into the cold and wet months of the year, it’s extremely important to find a work boot that is not only comfortable to work in, but also waterproof. Keen Utility recently released a new boot called the Chicago, which features their KEEN.dry waterproofing membrane and a cushioned midsole for added comfort. The 6” boot comes in a variety of different versions, including a soft-toe, carbon fiber toe, a metatarsal guard, a women’s version, an Electro static dissipative (ESD) version, and even a low-top oxford version.
Tumblr media
Milwaukee Gen 2 Rocket Tower Light/Charger
Buy at Home Depot
Milwaukee M18 Cordless ROCKET LED Stand Light/Charger
Days are much shorter in the later months of the year, making it extremely important to have a good lighting solution on the jobsite.  No one matches the collection of lighting solutions that Milwaukee has and one of their latest releases is the upgraded LED Rocket Light/Charger.
With an output of 6,000 lumens on high, this light can be set up and extended to 7’ high in a matter of seconds. The max height helps reduce shadows and its 3 heads can all be angled separately to provide both ambient and task lighting.  The onboard changer can also charge M18 batteries while plugged into an extension cord. I’ve had this Rocket light for a few weeks and, if you only need one light that can pretty much do it all, this is a great place to start, but you’ll have to pay for all of those features.
