Whether It's A Birthday, Anniversary, Or Just Because, Letterbox Flowers Are The Perfect Gift!
Tumblr media
While sometimes it may seem easy to find the perfect gift for a loved one or to get it delivered on time, it may not always be so. I would like to share with you some of the great reasons why dried letterbox flowers are such a great and convenient option in your area.
How Do Letterbox Flowers Work?
It is an arrangement of fresh-cut blooms arranged in an elegant box that is slightly larger than your mailbox but smaller than the amount of flora on the table. Our flower bouquets are carefully wrapped in protective packaging to ensure that they do not get damaged during transit or delivery, therefore you don't need to worry about them getting damaged. The majority of letterbox flower delivery companies offer a free delivery service as well.
There are many benefits to sending flowers through the letterbox
It is one of the best things about letterbox flowers that it is convenient. Now, you do not have to worry about being home for a delivery that does not arrive on time or having to pick up your purchase from the florist before it closes. With letterbox flowers, all you need to do is order online and wait for them to arrive at your doorstep. Using letterbox flower packages is another well-known way to send someone a beautiful bouquet without having to spend a lot of money; most companies offer great deals on their letterbox flower packages, so you can get a beautiful bouquet for a great price.
You can give your loved ones great gifts with letterbox flowers
There are some great gifts to be found in letterboxes because they are a thoughtful and considerate way to send a personalized letter that shows you care and concern without having to spend a lot of time or money searching for the perfect gift. The best way to make someone feel special is to send them a beautiful arrangement of blooms as a birthday gift, anniversary gift, or just to say "I'm thinking of you". There is no better way to make someone feel special than to send them a beautifully designed arrangement of elegant blooms.
These days, letterbox flowers are definitely one of the best gift options that are available out there for anyone to choose from. Despite the fact that they offer every benefit you could imagine-convenience, affordability, and beauty-they do not compromise on quality or presentation in any way. You may be looking for a way to show someone how much you care about them, but you don't want to spend hours shopping around for the perfect gift for that person, so letterbox flowers could be just what you need.
Give your loved ones a smile with a letterbox bouquet.
A letterbox flower arrangement is the perfect way to surprise someone.
A surprise gesture is a great way to show someone how much you care about them. You will be surprised by the thoughtfulness you showed them when they find the box on their doorstep, and they will be delighted to find it.
Whenever they arrive, you do not have to be there to receive them.
Quite a few people do not realize that you can send flowers and gifts without physically being there to the recipient in order to show your appreciation. You can be sure that your loved one will be ecstatic when they receive it.
As an alternative, you can also send flowers and gifts to your loved one if he or she is away from home. Perhaps they are on holiday or working somewhere else in another city or country during their time off. Perhaps you have a friend who is currently unwell and in the hospital, or maybe you have a family member who is unwell as well. In such cases, sending gorgeous bouquets of fresh flowers during their recovery time after being admitted to the hospital can go a long way in lifting their spirits. The flowers will also be a nice reminder to them that you care.
We ensure that your letterbox flowers arrive safely by carefully wrapping them.
Letterbox Flowers will provide the recipient with a beautifully wrapped floral arrangement that will be ready for delivery once you have ordered flowers from them. We diligently wrap each bouquet by our team of expert florists, then place it inside of a box with bubble wrap or foam inside, so the bouquet is protected by the bubbles. By doing this, you're ensuring that your special someone's gift will arrive safely and beautifully on its way-and that it won't get crushed during its journey.
It is a great idea to send a gift in the form of a letterbox flower and they look beautiful when they arrive.
Letterbox flowers are an easy and thoughtful way to surprise a loved one. It is less expensive than sending flowers through the mail, and it is also a great way to show your appreciation to your friends that have been doing well lately through the mail. In addition to making your life better, letterbox flowers are important to send every single day because they make your life better too.
Let your loved one know how special they are with Letterbox Flowers If you are looking for a hassle-free way to deliver flowers, Letterbox Flowers is the right choice. The Most Beautiful Flower Delivery Services That Deliver Year-Round
Tumblr media
Flowers play a significant role in the decoration of weddings, but they can also play a significant role in the decoration of your home. If you are at a loss as to what to put on a table in the entryway or are looking for a way to introduce a bit of natural fragrance into your primary living space, a bouquet of letterbox flowers UK might be the solution. Also, if you sign up for a flower subscription, you won't ever have to worry about finding the flowers on your own; they will be delivered to you on a regular basis.
The fact that subscribers typically get to choose the delivery frequency is a huge advantage of these recurring services. This means that they can choose to have a new arrangement delivered to their doorstep every week, month, or two months, depending on their preference. After evaluating more than a dozen different flower subscriptions, we chose our top picks based on a number of criteria, including freshness, variety, and cost, among others.
Best Overall: Why Did We Decide on the Bouqs Company?
The Bouqs Co. is unique among flower subscription services in that it gives customers the ability to choose the bouquets that they want to be included in each delivery (except for the very first one). In addition to selecting the flowers, subscribers have the ability to alter the delivery date as well as the recipient of the flowers. For example, if you want to use one of your subscription deliveries to send flowers to your mother on her birthday, that can be arranged.
The business provides subscriptions on a weekly, biweekly, monthly, and bimonthly basis. Additionally, customers can choose from three different sizes: Original (10-16 stems for $40), Deluxe (20-32 stems for $52), and Grand (30-45 stems for $65) These prices, in addition to the fact that The Bouqs Co. offers free shipping on all subscription orders (a value of $25), make it a difficult service to compete with.
We also admire the company's dedication to reducing waste, which it accomplishes by reusing the water that is used during the growing process and by transporting its flowers directly from the farms, which results in fewer stems being cut prematurely.
Best Variety: BloomsyBox
Why Did We Go With It?
BloomsyBox is the type of company that is well aware that there is no such thing as a "one size fits all" solution. A monthly eucalyptus subscription and a subscription based on the New York Botanical Garden are just two of the ten distinct packages that can be purchased from this company. Prices range from slightly less than $40 up to approximately $70 per delivery, in addition to the cost of shipping. Because there is such a wide variety of options, virtually everyone can find something that works for them. Pet owners, for example, can choose the pet-safe option to steer clear of potentially poisonous flower varieties.
Despite the fact that subscribers do not get to choose the specific flowers that they will receive, they are able to select the date of their first delivery and have the option to pay as they go or prepay for a set number of weeks or months, making the service suitable for giving as a gift. BloomsyBox is not like other flower delivery services in that it also provides a houseplant subscription. This houseplant subscription is ideal for adding to your collection and making your home feel more like an oasis.
Letterbox Flowers is one of the top flower delivery companies in the UK, and for good reason. They offer a wide variety of flowers, plants, and arrangements, and they make it easy for customers to find the perfect gift for any occasion. In addition to their commitment to quality and freshness, Letterbox Flowers also offers excellent customer service.

d word matty would definitely buy you a flower subscription from bloom & wild or somewhere. so even when he is away, you come home to a bouquet delivered every couple of weeks. and each time, you send him a photo and he always says something like 'beautiful flowers for a beautiful girl xx'.
oh this is so lovely!! i totally believe that flowers are a huge thing for you and matty - when you first started hanging out together just the two of you, pre-dating, you went for walks in hampstead heath and other green spaces around london, and matty would take note every time you stopped to look at flowers to see which ones you liked best, then rocked up to dates with a bouquet for you. it became a total thing, and i think when he's home he personally buys you a new bunch every week because you love them so much! and he defo does the bloom & wild thing (sidenote: their arrangements are BEAUTIFUL) on the occasions you're not on tour with the boys - which is honestly more often than you'd think, because in lieu of jamie being at the office you're the one running the place lol. a new box through the letterbox every week, always with a sweet little message from matty like "these are almost as pretty as you, but not quite" or "just because i love you" (i would MELT btw), stuff like that. and you get into a little habit of sending him a pic of the flowers in the house, but also one of you holding them looking all cute with them; one time, you're wearing a white top in the pic and matty gets teary and goes delulu imagining you holding a wedding bouquet as you marry him. but yeah, he always responds with a cute message calling you "beautiful" or something like that lol. i also think you'd take one or two flowers from every bouquet matty sends you and dry them, so by the time he gets home there's a huge monument to your relationship in a vase on the kitchen table; you also buy matty flowers as congratulations for everything, and for when you guys reunite after tour (he gets very blushy and lovesick everytime you do this lol) <3

rose & lily for everyone?? :D
Rose: Favorite form of self care? Elias: If Elias has energy to spare, then they'll work on their garden!!! It's something that is purely a hobby for them, so they don't have to worry about work or the Guild or anything else! It helps them work out frustrations, and give them something to concentrate on! They have a Dye garden at the university that their students and partners help tend, but back home they have an assortment of plants they they have purely for the love of them! it gets them out of their own head and serves as a good distraction for her! if they don't have energy to spare? They'll make their bed up with their favorite quilts and pillows, make some tea, and just rest and read a book! it provides mental stimulation, but also ensures she won't hurt her body if it's already a bad pain day! Pennitha: Pennitha will make herself a nice bath!! She likes the cool water, it helps ground her, and it also helps make sure she's clean! Pennitha likes to take care of hygeine, but unfortunatly when she's deep in morning that can go to the wayside. She also spends time taking care of her hair, and making certain her curls are properly maintained! She'll also work on her knitting, making scarves and gloves and mittens!! Usually she gives these away as gifts for friends, and if she's focusing on a complex pattern then she can't get lost in her own thoughts. She'll also go and visit friends, as being alone for too long has a bad impact on her (like with Elias! these two spend a lot of time in each other's company) Pheobe: Pheobe will dust and clean his whole house! It's good to be doing something productive, and it makes him feel good to live in a clean and happy space. He'll relight his candles, and maybe spend some time at his altar. He writes in his journal a lot too, it helps him sort through his own emotions and make well-informed decisions!!! Lily: Love language?
Elias shows their devotion distantly! They aren't affectionate in person, but they are cuddly! They'll initiate touch frequently, though they don't like recieving it if others initiate without permission! They'll lean on others frequently, or purposefully move out of their wheelchair to sit on someone. With blanket permission though, touch over clothing is fine!! Showing it to others, they'll also often send letters! Even if you see them everyday, you may still wake up to your letterbox full of poems they think you'd like, or pressed flowers, or even the rare photograph! Elias has been hurt by words a lot, but was never shown physical affection until they came to london, so if you want to win them over, gifts of things they mentioned previously, or returning their cuddles are the way to go! or just being there for them consistently! Pennitha also enjoys physical touch, though not as much as Elias. She likes being helped with things, and she'll reciprocate with lots of little gifts! Emotional comfort has the most impact on her however. Being a shoulder to cry on, to bear some of the burden with her, means absolute worlds to her. She's very good at gifting and planning things for others, and knows everyone's likes and dislikes!! She also enjoys spending time with people!
Pheobe is also fond of giving and receiving gifts! He likes scheduled time together, whether for walks in the marshes, fighting off blemmigans when those walks go poorly, getting coffee after washing off blemmigan slime... he likes being intimate with someone like that! He's also prone to cuddles! Ask game here

Some services pride themselves on their extensive selection of exotic blooms, perfect for creating a one-of-a-kind bouquet that will wow your recipient. Others focus on same-day delivery options, ensuring your gift arrives fresh and on time.
The convenience of online ordering is another key feature to look out for – with just a few clicks, you can have a stunning arrangement en route to make someone's special day even brighter. Additionally, some flower delivery companies provide extra goodies like chocolates, balloons, or personalized cards to accompany your floral gift. These little touches can elevate your present and create an unforgettable birthday surprise. So take note of these distinctive features when selecting the perfect service for sending birthday flower bouquets in London!
Pricing comparison and value for money
When it comes to choosing the best flower delivery service for birthday gifts in London, considering pricing and value for money is crucial. Each service offers different price points based on factors like bouquet size, flower types, and additional gift options.
Some services may have introductory deals or discounts for first-time customers, providing excellent value for those looking to send a beautiful birthday surprise without breaking the bank. Others may offer subscription services or loyalty programs that can save you money in the long run if you frequently send flowers.
It's essential to compare prices across various platforms to ensure you're getting the best deal possible while still receiving high-quality blooms and reliable delivery service. Remember that cost isn't everything - consider factors like customer reviews, bouquet customization options, and additional gift offerings when evaluating the overall value of each flower delivery service.
Customer reviews and ratings
Customer reviews and ratings play a significant role in helping us choose the best flower delivery service for birthday gifts in London. Reading through feedback from other customers can give us valuable insights into the quality of products and services offered by different companies.
Positive reviews highlighting quick delivery times, fresh and beautiful flowers, and excellent customer service are key indicators of a reliable service. On the other hand, negative reviews pointing out issues like late deliveries or wilted flowers serve as red flags to steer clear of certain providers.
It's essential to take these reviews with a grain of salt and consider the overall sentiment before making a decision. Some platforms offer detailed ratings based on various factors such as bouquet presentation, value for money, and recipient satisfaction, providing a comprehensive overview.
By taking the time to read customer reviews and ratings, we can make informed choices when selecting the best flower delivery service for our loved ones' birthdays in London.
Unique offerings from each service (custom bouquets, same-day delivery, etc.)
When it comes to finding the perfect birthday flower bouquet in London, you'll be delighted by the unique offerings from various flower delivery services. Some providers offer custom bouquets tailored to your specific preferences and style, allowing you to create a truly one-of-a-kind arrangement that reflects the recipient's personality perfectly.
If you're pressed for time, don't fret! Several services in London provide same-day delivery options so you can ensure your loved one receives their beautiful blooms on their special day. This convenient feature adds an element of surprise and delight to the birthday celebration, making it even more memorable.
Whether you're looking for a classic bouquet with a modern twist or something bold and extravagant, each flower delivery service has its own signature style that sets them apart. From elegant hand-tied arrangements to whimsical floral designs, there is something for every taste and occasion.
Take advantage of these unique offerings to make your birthday gift extra special and unforgettable.
Additional gift options such as chocolates, balloons, and personalized cards
When it comes to birthday gifts, sometimes a bouquet of flowers alone might not be enough to truly express your love and appreciation for the special person in your life. This is where additional gift options like chocolates, balloons, and personalized cards come into play.
Imagine surprising your loved one with a beautiful bouquet of their favorite flowers accompanied by a box of decadent chocolates. The combination of sweet treats and fragrant blooms will surely put a smile on their face!
Adding colorful balloons to the mix can make the birthday celebration even more festive and joyful. Whether you choose helium-filled balloons or ones with fun designs, they are sure to add an extra element of excitement to the occasion.
Personalized cards are another thoughtful touch that can elevate your gift-giving experience. A heartfelt message written specifically for the recipient can convey emotions that words alone cannot express.
By including these additional gift options alongside a stunning flower bouquet, you can create a truly unforgettable birthday surprise for your loved one.
Tips for choosing the perfect bouquet for a birthday gift
When it comes to choosing the perfect bouquet for a birthday gift, consider the recipient's preferences and personality. Think about their favorite colors, flowers, and scents. If they love vibrant hues, opt for a bouquet with bold blooms like sunflowers or lilies. For someone who prefers softer tones, a pastel arrangement of roses or tulips might be ideal.
Another tip is to take into account the occasion and setting. If the birthday celebration is taking place in a formal setting, a classic bouquet of elegant white flowers can add sophistication. On the other hand, if it's a casual gathering or outdoor party, a wildflower arrangement could bring a more relaxed vibe.
Consider adding personal touches to your bouquet selection. Choose flowers that hold special meanings or significance to create an emotional connection. You can also customize the bouquet by including their favorite blooms or incorporating unique elements like succulents or herbs for added charm.
Don't forget about the presentation! Opt for flower delivery services that offer stylish packaging and include personalized cards with heartfelt messages. The way you present the birthday bouquet can make all the difference in creating a memorable gifting experience.
Conclusion: Final thoughts on the best flower
In the vibrant and bustling city of London, finding the perfect birthday gift can be a delightful experience, especially when it involves beautiful flower bouquets. With a plethora of flower delivery services to choose from, each offering unique features and benefits, you are sure to find the ideal bouquet to make your loved one's special day even more memorable.

From stunning floral creations to additional gift options like chocolates and balloons, there are endless ways to tailor your gift to suit the recipient's preferences.
When selecting the best birthday flower bouquet, consider factors such as color scheme, flower types, and any special additions that would make the arrangement truly stand out. Remember that each bloom carries its own significance and symbolism – so choose thoughtfully based on what message you want to convey through your gift.
Whether you go for classic roses or exotic orchids, what matters most is the joy and delight that your carefully chosen bouquet will bring to the birthday celebrant. Let's talk about the series Giri/Haji (2019) aka the most underrated series in Netflix
I literally just finished Giri/Haji and I need to talk about it. Because I don't think I've ever been this...in love with a series since ever.
First things first, I'mma share a little bit how I learned about the series:
I became obsessed with Sophia di Martino after seeing her in Loki, and like anyone with a heart, I looked through her IMDB to find where else can I see her?!
And I stumbled upon Flowers, which is an equally phenomenal series also available in Netflix, and I discovered Will Sharpe.
And lemme tell ya, he's a beautiful piece of mankind and I learned that not only did he write and direct and act in Flowers, but he is also the lucky husband of Sophia.
Then I saw that Will won a BAFTA for his role in Giri/Haji. Learned that it was also in Netflix and a week later (because I wanted to savor it), here we are.
Okay. No-spoiler thoughts first.
If you dig detective series and/or British series and/or Japanese drama, this delicious piece of bilingual media is for you.
If you love the whole "found family" premise, this is for you.
Off the bat, Will's character Rodney is the clear scene stealer of this series. Right from the first episode, you just know you're gonna love him and wanna give him all the love he sorely needs.
I adore that Kenzo isn't written as a macho detective lead. He allows himself to be vulnerable and isn't afraid to get in touch with his emotions.
Of course, as the Japanese man he is, it takes time for him to accept his emotions, but I'm happy he doesn't resort to anger or self-pity to deal with them.
I love how all the women--and I mean all of the women characters--are strong-willed and unapologetic and flawed and fierce and I-will-stab-you-in-the-legs-if-you-grope-me energy. All of em. They take no bull shit and I respect that.
It is particularly nice to see that kind of energy with Japanese women, who are often written as innocent and demure and pure.
My most favorite aspects of this series is its cinematography, its editing, and its storytelling.
The various ways it uses cinematic language and different forms of media to highlight important moments of the story really makes the series a well-crafted show.
My favorite episodes are Episode 3, 4, and 6.
Episode 4 was particularly memorable. It is one of the best flashback episodes I've ever seen and it deepens our perspective of every main character.
My favorite sequence comes in both Episode 6 and Episode 8, the finale.
Despite getting recognized by BAFTA, the show got cancelled after one season.
But you know what?
(Spoiler thoughts start under the cut)
I think it was a smart move to keep it a one-off drama.
Everything actually wrapped up nicely. There's one semi-loose end that I need reassurance about, which is whether Rodney and Sarah (our female lead detective) become friends again and Rodney can fully realize that he is loved by his newfound family.
Apart from that, this is one series where the semi-open ending finale trope works.
I think the whole Ian-might-rat-us-out subplot could have played out better? Or maybe it could not have played out at all? Like, maybe instead of Abbot being at the rooftop, maybe it could have been Ian?
I actually wasn't sure about how we should feel about Ian. I mean, he didn't deserve Sarah, but...he's...not...a bad...person? I mean, a sketchy detective and a bad boyfriend, yes, but it didn't fully read out to me as "don't trust him" or "stay away from him."
Because when Sarah said in the second episode that her ex was a man who did bad things "until he couldn't," I heard that as he physically abused her. Like, that shit of a man.
But...I don't know. Maybe I missed out on something.
Plus, WHO DID PUT THE SNAKE IN SARAH'S LETTER BOX? Was that some kind of sicko prank?! Did one of her neighbors have it as a pet and it accidentally went to her letterbox???
If Ian was worked for the mafia, maybe that would have worked better? Like, switch Vickers, for Ian, maybe?
Gosh, Vickers, am I right? I mean, who would have thought Justin Long would be a part of this?
ROY was a surprise. Did not expect that twist in the finale. I feel bad for him though because he was really just a bloke caught up in a sticky situation. Like, he's not a bad guy, too. He's just in a bad situation.
Huh.
It's like what Kenzo said, huh? "We're not bad people. We're just doing bad things."
Kenzo and Sarah, right? I felt like it wasn't necessary for them to get romantic, but after Episode 3 with that silent exchange, I appreciate that they went that direction.
I also appreciate that Kenzo was fully aware that he is married and Sarah was fully aware of it too. She knew it was the worst way to let light in.
And I'm glad that there was a moment between Kenzo and Rei where they allowed themselves (or at least Rei allowed Kenzo) to go off their separate ways.
I love the detail that Rei was actually in contact with Yuto and Natsuko is an badass old woman who likes to live on the edge.
The way she said, "Then we will fight" when Eiko and Rei worried about the yakuzas. I mean!
Okay, okay. I'mma back up a bit, because the reason why I thought the whole Ian subplot didn't work was because it felt like the writers eventually didn't know what to do with Rodney?
Like, why bring this kind of pain to Rodney?!
But then, you know, thinking about it as I am writing this, we all know Rodney would be with Taki and it might be Rodney who gets in trouble with Jiro.
Ahh, Jiro. That...dangerous specimen.
Glad he didn't kill Toshio.
But still, my biggest concern for the ending of this series is that we leave Rodney at such a low place.
Like, I just need to know that he needs up okay and he reunites with Sarah and Taki and all live together in London now. And Rodney's restarting his life with a better direction in life, but of course struggles with relapse?
Okay, I am seeing now where the second series could have went on. The creator said it would have been a "Rodney-Taki centric" season.
Gosh, so maybe they would have changed genre?! Aaaahhhhh! but who knows? I mean, I imagine the yakuzas are still after the Mori brothers.
But then again, Fukuhara and Endo are dead sooo...
Giri/Haji, right?! It's... It's a great piece of media.
Anyway, if you wanna talk about Giri/Haji, please feel free to send me a message!
PLEASE! Haha. Take care, y'all

Thank you @sleepyowlwrites for tagging me!
Here are some awkwardly translated excerpts (using DeepL translator because I’m lazy like this) from my WIP, Unwritten Sacifice. I promise it sounds much better in the original version.
hour
"Go back to sleep, I'll be back soon," he whispered, soothing the crow with his thoughts. Satisfied, he watched as Bone tucked his head back under his wing and slept on. He locked the door from the outside and threw the key in the letterbox, because he didn't need it to get back in. It took him almost a whole hour to walk the way he was now facing. Of course, he could also take the Underground, but the risk of someone inside remembering him was too great for him. The street was still busy at this time - after all, he lived in the heart of London - but most people passed each other with lowered eyes and paid no further attention.

He leaned against the counter next to Blackie. While Blackie tried to anticipate what incredible news he was about to reveal, he eyed the flowered shirt Goldy was wearing. For once it was buttoned up almost all the way to the top, but there was a worrying tug on the buttons at the chest. It was still a mystery to Blackie how someone with a slender build like Goldy still managed to find shirts that were actually too small even for him.
sink
His work corner contained everything he needed to have within reach. Above a marble work surface - a gift from his grandparents for the opening of the shop - in which a sink was embedded, a shelf hung on the wall, in which at the very top were glass jars containing various herbs and powders as well as some other substances, some of which he had taken the precaution of not labelling. Below that was a hodgepodge of glass containers in many different sizes and shapes. On the lowest shelf was a basket with various frequently used tools and his notebooks with the recipes. Next to the work surface was a small fireplace, as many preparations had to be cooked and magic usually required real fire. The stereotypical witch's cauldron hanging above it had not been his idea, but contrary to his expectations, it had proved extremely useful.

cut
"We have no choice but to fall into their trap, do we?" Blackie thought for a moment before replying. "If I had anything of either of them, I could find out where they were." "Can't you do that with Sudie's sleeve?" "Not after that spell," Blackie replied. "We should have cut it first," Goldy said. "No. Then the spell wouldn't have worked." Goldy sighed. "What else can we do?"

art student kilgour who is soft and quirky and dresses like an old man fashion disaster, all florals and knitwear and combat boots and scarves - but even in school, the would-be bullies ended up loving him just as much as everyone else
art student kilgour who rents a tiny flat above a café in inner-city london and has the rowdiest neighbours in history, and they’re lowkey crooks but they love kilgour because he always brings them hot chocolate from the café below and he has a sweet smile and he either straight up doesn’t realise they’re dodgy because he’s too innocent or he just loves the good in people more than the bad
art student kilgour who’s clumsy and prone to disaster and who manages to burn water when he’s trying to cool and has had to babble his way out of eviction three separate times when his cranky landlord saw the burn marks on the ceiling above his stove
art student kilgour who has decorated his flat like a countryside cottage, all soft yellows and flowers and cheap antique furniture; and he always has the windows open, and in the mornings and on the weekends he’ll lie down on his floor in the warm sunshine and paint, or doze, or eat his breakfast upside down and watch the shadows on the ceiling
art student kilgour who has a shrine to lana del rey in his bedroom and owns every one of her albums on vinyl record and has been to every concert she’s had near london - and the only thing he loves more than Our Goddess Lana is musical theatre, which is where most of his money goes when it isn’t on paint supplies and train tickets to the country to sit in the manor house grounds during opening hours and paint the gardens (and thank u @schofield-n-cherries for the thought of him loving musical theatre (‘:)
art student kilgour who’s shy, and gentle, and doesn’t speak much - and who everyone would die for because when he does speak, he’s sweet and funny and passionate and weird and deeply, deeply kind, and there are times when he just never shuts up and he babbles on and on about anything and everything for hours and everyone loves those times
art student kilgour who loves and supports his friends with all his heart, and paints them something for all their birthdays, and picks them flowers that make him think of them, and reads their horoscopes in the newspaper down in the café every morning and texts them all individually about it, and read their palms and tarot cards when he went through his witchcraft phase
art student kilgour who, one night, was simultaneously buzzing on his seventh iced coffee and crying into his art history books in the library because he’d suddenly forgotten how to read and the test was tomorrow and he was a mess - and a kind stranger a year or two older than him quietly came over from where he had been studying and sat down without a word and rubbed his back in slow circles and murmured “shh” until kilgour could breathe again; and he offered to buy him a herbal tea instead of an eighth coffee and kilgour laughed through his runny nose and the next day he aced the test, because of course he did it’s just that self-doubt has always managed to get the worst of him
and even though he’s only a year or two older, scho takes kilgour on as a younger brother and lets him stay over whenever he needs; and he has his own room that scho let him paint the walls of, and he likes to sit outside in scho’s little garden in the golden morning with a hot cup of tea and listen to the birds and paint the flowers and the trees
art student kilgour who loves the quiet of art galleries and could spend hours just staring at one painting, and who is just at home screaming his lungs raw with a huge smile on his face at gay pride marches and women’s rights rallies
art student kilgour who is always so cheerful and positive and full of love and energy even though he feels so sad and lonely most of the time
kilgour, who sleeps around to try and fill the confusing emptiness inside of him; whose father never loved him; who sometimes breaks under all his sadness and tries to derail his own life, who goes on week-long benders to night clubs and stays out till dawn in drunken, screaming colour and throws himself at nameless guys to make himself feel needed and wanted even though it always ends up the same: crying on his friends’ shoulders and feeling dirty and helpless and more lost than ever with a warning of suspension from university in his letterbox for having missed a perilous amount of classes
kilgour, with a sister who he’s closer to than anyone in the world and who always supported him when they were children and who always knows when to try and cheer him up and when to just sit quietly with him and let him put himself back together until he’s ready to smile again
art student kilgour who bumps into a german exchange student on the street and knocks over all the books he was carrying and feels himself turning bright red even as he rambles on and on about how sorry he is because oh no the boy is so pretty and he’s in love and he’s being an idiot and oh my god he’s so embarrassing he’s going to hate him forever and he actually might start crying because he’s never seen anyone so hot
but turns out the hot german exchange student is having the same internal panic, just a whole lot quieter because all he can do is stare in complete silence as kilgour keeps babbling and now somehow he’s gotten onto 17th century finnish art and no one seems more confused by the change in subject than kilgour but he can’t seem to stop and bäumer can’t stop staring and everyone on the street is giving them dirty looks because they’re in the middle of the sidewalk with a dozen books and then finally bäumer blurts out, in the most strained and anxious voice, do you want to get a coffee and now they’re both staring at each other in silence - and finally kilgour beams into a grin, and bäumer smiles back at him, and they burst into laughter
and eventually bäumer moves in with him into his tiny apartment and all his books join all of kilgour’s art supplies, and bäumer is a significantly better cook and he quietly makes dinner most nights and hums to himself while kilgour paints by the window in the light of the setting sun
and more than once kilgour has flung open the windows while reenacting whole musical theatre shows and bellowing at the top of his lungs and all the people on the street down below have jumped back like ‘oh my!’ (and a few have cheered and clapped) and bäumer has had to poke his head out the window and quietly call down, “i’m so sorry he’s very passionate” while kilgour has already disappeared back inside the apartment and is still belting out every part to ‘one day more’ in interchanging (bad) falsetto and (awful) baritone
kilgour, who’s silly and sleepy and soft and kind, who tends to and quietly talks to the plants in his apartment and has named every one of them after his favourite artists, who loves the soft sunshine and the quiet of mornings, whose favourite mug is one his friend made for him in their pottery class, who takes hours to wake up in the morning but who is bouncing off the walls and having Revelations come midnight
kilgour, who’s sad and self-doubting but warm and sincere, who thinks himself stupid but who all his friends know is a font of knowledge for all obscure and odd and wonderful things
modern au kilgour!!!!!!

My fanfictions [5/?]
I continue posting my already existent fanfictions translated from French to English with My only debt, a North and South OS written for a monthly challenge. Yes, this time it’s not FMA.
I discovered "North and South" a few years ago, read the book and watched the BBC series soon after. I fell in love with the characters and the story, and the themes covered are much more than another version of Pride and prejudice. I can only recommend that book and the series adapted from it (there's Richard Armitage)
My only debt
Genre: romance
Rating: K
Word count: around 1000
Margaret was grieving. Of course, she had left black clothes to wear dark-coloured and grey dresses, but her heart was still full of sorrow. She had to leave a place she saw as paradise to live in a smokey and noisy city. She had lost both her parents a few months apart. Then, she had to leave this same city, still smokey and noisy, but where she knew there lived a few people she liked and who liked her back.
Life in Harley Street in her Aunt's house seemed sometimes exhausting. Because of her grieving, she could not join the receptions held by Mrs. Shaw's friends. However, Edith always insisted that she took care of Sholto when she was out with her mother. Her cousin's son was only one, but had a strong character, so Margaret often wondered if she would run out of patience and ask Edith to hire a nurse or to take care of him herself. Margaret wanted to be undisturbed, to write letters for her godfather, Mr. Bell, or for Frederick, thanks to Henry Lennox.
She knew, she saw. The lawyer hoped for something from her, but her heart did not want to give it to him. She would not make the mistake to accept a man she respected but knew she could not love. The more she thought about it, the more she knew there was only one man she could see as the one who was able to take her heart. However, since she had left Milton, she had not been given any news. She had no news about how the master of Marlborough Mills managed, how well the Irish who had stayed settled in, how Nicholas Higgins coped with raising Boucher's children.
Months passed, and time brought back colours on Margaret's dresses, although she had to wear grey clothes when Mr. Bell left for Argentina, giving her his fortune and belongings. She learnt of Marlborough Mills' bankruptcy with a twinge. He had not succeeded in resolving the situation, orders had been to few and clients had not paid. Somehow, she knew that the success of the speculation might had been hard to him, and Milton's Masters might be laughing at him during their meetings.
However, one day as she tidied her papers, Margaret came up with an idea. He was still her tenant, and she could find a way to keep him as such. With the help of Mr. Lennox, who had been managing her property with her, she made an offer and sent it to Marlborough Mills, hoping for a quick answer. She wanted news from him, even if it was fewer than what she wanted.
Two weeks later, Edith knocked on her office door, where she managed her properties. "Margaret, there is a letter for you. It seems it has been put directly in the letterbox. "
Margaret was as intrigued as her cousin was. A twinge of hope in her heart, she took the letter. It was not heavy, but bigger than expected. She openend the enveloppe, and a small violet bouquet fell on her knees. Pansies. Who could be sending her pansies ? How was it even possible to find pansies in London?
Suddenly she realised. She knew the writing on the envelope, she has seen it in letters for her father or mother, with a fruit basket or a philosophy book. She knew, thanks to her childhood readings, what purple pansies meant.
I've loved you and still am loving
There was nothing more in the envelope, but now Margaret knew who went to Harley Street to put a modest flower bouquet in the mail.
She rose from her chair, surprising Edith. The pansies in her hand, she ran the stairs down to the hall. She did not care to put a shawl or hat and walked out of the house. People strolled on Harley Street, and passengers were getting in a coach. But a big silhouette clothed in black with a hat caught her eyes. He was here. Seeing her, he left the fence he was leaning on and smiled at her.
Margaret approached John Thornton like in a dream. Was it really him? Yes, he was there, in the flesh. She was standing in front of him and tried to speak, but no sound left her mouth. She was dreading and anticipating the next minutes. She rose the bouquet. "I hoped you would understand the meaning of these flowers", he began. His deep voice sounded like a purr.
How she had missed his voice…
"After all, you told me about Helstone's flowers, so I thought you could know the meaning of pansies."
Margaret nodded.
"I received your letter. And I've been surprised. Pleasanlty surprised. So much that I began to hope that something had changed in your feelings toward me. All I said that day is still true." He whispered.
"And my offer?" Margaret asked, desperately trying to change the subject.
"I cannot bear such a debt, Margaret."
She rose her eyes and met his own, filled with intensity, concern, and hope. Intimidated, she looked down.
"You would not owe me anything. And you would give me much more than bank interests. You see, it is you who would be doing me the service."
John took her hands in his big, callous, and warm ones, and Margaret rose her head.
"In that case, allow me one debt." He implored her. His voice full of restraint. "Allow me a lifetime debt. The one a man owes to his wife. Please."
Emotion ran through her vein. Margaret had guessed right, he still loved her. He had the same wishes than the day she had so cruelly rejected him.
"I am not worthy of you, Mr. Thornton," she whispered. "Not after what I said and done to you."
"Not worthy! Margaret, do not mock me, as I am convinced that I do not deserve you."
John rose her hands and kissed both on the back, giving her delicious shivers. If her life should be as delicious as this, then accepting his love debt would be the most marvellous thing.
Suddenly concious that they were in the middle of the street, she offered him to come for tea. After all, he would have to meet his future in-laws.

Thousands of us have picked up a surprise savings habit in lockdown, a Money Mail survey reveals today. The coronavirus crisis has inflicted job losses and pay cuts – and still threatens to kill off many struggling businesses. But despite the doom and gloom, many Mail readers have found they are saving hundreds of pounds thanks to lockdown, and becoming more financially secure as a result. Spending cuts: Despite the doom and gloom, many readers have found themselves saving hundreds of pounds thanks to lockdown and becoming more financially secure as a result  Large expenses such as holidays, commuting costs and entertainment have vanished following unprecedented social-distancing restrictions – giving households the chance to set aside money during an economically uncertain time. Exclusive research for Money Mail by Consumer Intelligence today suggests 16 per cent of people now feel financially better off. Almost half are spending less since social-distancing restrictions were introduced, with 38 per cent saving more. Nearly four in five families say they have more money to spend since lockdown, with a quarter having between £200 and £500 more in disposable income each month. The findings come as figures from the Bank of England yesterday showed the nation saved £16.2 billion in April. In the six months to February households saved an average of £5 billion every month. What is more, households cleared an astonishing £5 billion of credit-card debt, which was more than double the previous record of £2.4 billion paid off in March. In a standard month the nation would usually clear £300 million of credit-card debt. Becky O’Connor, personal finance specialist at insurer Royal London, says: ‘A financial divide has opened up during lockdown. ‘While some are really struggling on reduced incomes, there’s another group whose experience has been almost the exact opposite. ‘If you are in a position to do so, there might never be a better time to ‘build back better’ and save.’ Here, Money Mail meets some of the nation’s new ‘accidental savers’. At last, I’ve managed to build a little nest egg  By HENRY DEEDES  All my life I’ve been a spender rather than a saver. Whatever I’ve earned during my career, my bank account has always puffed and wheezed its way through to pay day. I’ve tried to be sensible. I’ve opened saving accounts, dabbled in Isas. I even bought Premium Bonds once. Much good it’s done me. You see, any disposable cash I’ve ever had has this annoying habit of winking at me through the computer glass, urging me to go out and enjoy it. Terrible, I know, but there’s something innately therapeutic about rewarding yourself after a busy week with a little something.  A case of wine, something new to hang in the flat. Perhaps another ill-advised addition to the summer wardrobe from a tempting online emporium. Invariably, no sooner have I clicked the purchase button and the boiler will suddenly crank to halt and there’ll be nothing in the cookie jar to pay for a repair. I never learn. Lockdown has changed all that. Like a lot of people, I imagine, being trapped inside an apartment for the best part of three months has brought about a vast reduction in expenses. No need now for expensive Travelcards, pricey gym memberships or all those overpriced cups of coffee every day. And that’s before you’ve taken into account what I used to spend going out to see friends.  Remember socialising? Drinks rounds, restaurant bills. I dread to think how much I used to splurge on late-night Uber journeys during normal times. But it was a lot. And so with all these weighty charges lifted from my balance sheet, I’ve started to experience a novelty. When I check my balance at the end of the month, there’s now actually something left in the kitty. In the past I’d have been tempted to do something extravagant. ‘Why not?’ would have been my attitude. But in these times of enforced isolation, that thinking has been replaced with what’s the point? Instead, I’ve been putting it in an online investment Isa with savings app Moneybox. I pay a set amount in each month, as well as any additional funds I might have left over.  It also has a nifty feature which rounds up all my debit card transactions to the nearest pound and automatically squirrels away the extra cash. H ow satisfying it has been, how oddly empowering. Each time I check to see how my savings are accruing I now get that same whoosh of excitement I used to get when an Amazon parcel would plonk through my letterbox. It would be nice to think that when this is all over, when the High Street tills begin to ring again and when the beer pumps start flowing, I will be able to maintain this spirit of restraint.  If nothing else, this pandemic has taught us how quickly life can go south. In bleak times it pays to be prudent. Doubtless this is the last thing Chancellor Rishi Sunak wants to hear. As we re-emerge from lockdown, he needs as many idiots like me as possible flashing their plastic around with reckless abandon to get our ravaged economy moving. But if this crisis does make some a little more financially responsible, surely that’s no bad thing in the long term.   I have cleared my credit card    Olivia McCulla, who works in PR, has saved by moving back in with her parents By moving back in with her parents, Olivia McCulla, who works in PR, has saved enough to pay off her £1,000 credit card debt. She still pays £775 a month in rent for her flat in North-West London but gets £100 back that would usually go on bills because she isn’t there. Her £120-a-month travel costs and £150-a-week work lunch habit have also disappeared while she works from her parents’ home near Leeds. She has also saved thousands after the two hen-dos and four weddings she was supposed to attend this summer were postponed. However, she now has eight weddings in the diary next year to budget for. Olivia, 29, who wants to buy a property in the next few years, has opened a new savings account. She says: ‘It feels more important than ever to have a rainy-day fund with things being so uncertain. ‘In London I was paying £9.50 for a gin and tonic and through the nose for a very small flat I dread going back to. ‘Lockdown has made me question if I even want to buy in London.’ Before the coronavirus crisis, Olivia was saving about £100 a month. Her father Bernard, 65, and his wife Susan, 66, have seen their household costs rise slightly since their daughter moved home but are also saving money each month.  They previously spent £100 eating out each week, so their bank balance is boosted by £400 a month. And instead of paying a tradesman £2,000 to replace his patio with a flower garden, Bernard did it himself and slashed the cost in half. Before social-distancing regulations were relaxed, Bernard was also saving £180 a month on his golf and walking-football memberships. He says: ‘We are very fortunate. Lockdown has made me think we should live more for today and enjoy our pensions more.’ I feel guilty I’m better off  Quids in: Ashleigh Meale is saving between £500 and £700 a month Ashleigh Meale says her ‘stripped-back life’ means she is now saving between £500 and £700 a month. This is despite her grocery bill doubling to £400 a month and signing up to a TV and film- streaming service costing £60 a year. Before lockdown, the 27-year-old recruitment consultant, who is currently working from home, was putting away between £250 and £500 but would spend hundreds of pounds a month socialising with friends at expensive bars and restaurants.  Now, she and her boyfriend Rob, 38, cook their meals from scratch at home. Ashleigh, who lives in Sheffield, is also saving £70 a month by working from home and not having to pay to commute by bus. She has also been unable to spend money on holidays since the Government warned against non-essential travel. Ashleigh admits that, while she is not a natural saver, she has now realised how much she spends unnecessarily and hopes to remain mindful about what expenses she reintroduces when restrictions are finally lifted. She says: ‘Feeling better off financially during this time is a strange position to be in and it does make me feel guilty when so many people are struggling. But it has given me time to re-evaluate things, and I have no intention of blowing what I’ve saved. ‘I don’t need to be out all the time spending money on eating out and drinks when I could be just as happy with a barbecue in someone’s garden. What I have missed the most is my friends — not the expensive socialising.’ Pay cut but £400-a-month saving  Sally Walsh is saving an extra £400 a month on top of £200 she was already setting aside in a help-to-buy Isa Sally Walsh was worried when she was told she would have to take a 10 per cent pay cut in March. But despite the shock announcement, the 24-year-old engineer has found her finances have improved during lockdown. She is now saving an extra £400 a month on top of £200 she was already setting aside in a help-to-buy Isa. Since working from home, Sally has saved around £200 a month by not having to commute to central London, and a further £200 by not eating or drinking out after work. The only bill to go up is her food cost now she cooks almost every meal at home. Sally, who has lived with her parents in Bromley, South-East London since graduating, is determined to continue saving even after lockdown lifts. She says: ‘My goal is to move out as soon as possible. I feel like I am closer to it now. ‘I don’t have to spend so much on going out. I hope I will soon be able to have people over and cook for them.’ Childcare cut by thousands  Claire Jarrett and her partner Jon Howell are saving £50 a day in train fares alone Claire Jarrett and her partner Jon Howell have saved enough since lockdown to pay for renovations on their home. The couple need to fix the roof on their house in West Malling, Kent, and want to make the garden more child-friendly for their one-year-old daughter, Eleanor, to play. Claire, 31, had only been back at work for two days after returning from maternity leave before staff were told they had to work from home. With Jon, also 31, working from home too, they are saving £50 a day in train fares alone by not having to commute to the insurance firm where they both work in Bromley, South-East London. They are also saving around £5 a day on lunches at work, £80 a month on petrol and £200 a month by not eating out. But their biggest saving has been on childcare. It usually costs £800 a month to send Eleanor to nursery — but the couple have not had to pay since March. It has helped the couple to replenish their savings after Claire’s maternity leave and move their renovation plans a bit further forward. However Claire says their financial gain is likely to be short-lived. She says: ‘Lockdown has made us realise we do not need to go out as much but lots of the costs will be re-introduced when life goes back to normal, unfortunately.’ Not relying on investments  Retired Gerry Short is making savings by not playing golf, employing a cleaner or taking weekend theatre trips Retired Gerry Short has seen such a drop in his spending that he has decided to stop withdrawing income from his investments for the next couple of years. Gerry, 61, a former college principal, has two pensions that pay £20,000 a year. He gets a further £16,000 a year from investments.  After the pandemic hit the stock market, his investments plummeted. While they have recovered slightly, he wants to give them time to recover. His reduced outgoings mean he can do this as he is making savings on weekend theatre trips which can cost up to £100 a time.  He was refunded £60 of his golf-club membership. He also stopped spending £20 on drinks three or four times a week after games.  The father-of-one, who lives in Leicestershire, also no longer employs a cleaner, which cost £100 a month. He says: ‘I was aware I was spending a lot as a distraction after my wife died and knew it couldn’t continue. Lockdown has given me time to plan further in the future.’ Windfall from lost holiday  Dannielle Phillips has had to put expensive holiday plans on halt Dannielle Phillips, 32, spends most of her spare cash on trips away. But since lockdown kicked in, expensive holiday plans have ground to a halt. She has already got an £870 refund for a trip to Mexico that was supposed to take place in April. And she has received a £500 voucher she can use to re-book her holiday to Portugal in June for next year. Dannielle, a senior marketing consultant, had always put £250 a month into Premium Bonds, but has since increased this to £750 a month. Since lockdown began, she has saved around £2,500 in total, which she says would have been impossible for her before. She has always checked her banking apps frequently, but is definitely more aware of incoming and outgoing transactions now. Dannielle, who lives in Croydon, South London, says she also feels very lucky it worked out like this because she had originally handed in her notice in February and was planning to leave after finishing a project six weeks later. But the new job she had been offered fell through so her company agreed to rehire her. Dannielle says: ‘I am looking forward to lockdown ending but also dreading it because I will need to rebalance old habits. ‘I’m going to try to budget more at the weekends because I want to keep saving to buy a house. ‘Building up my savings has become more important to me because the future feels so uncertain.’ [email protected] Some links in this article may be affiliate links. This isn't exactly an "evil" Victoria but I never could quite see her so bad. @vicbertsource
Vicbert Fanfic Challenge
Day Fourteen: good vs evil!au
Albert was a good person. He was a diligent student, wrote the school newspaper and volunteered in his spare time for various causes. So it didn't make sense that he'd fall for a bad person...someone like Victoria.
She was short but fiesty and liked to strut around like she owned the place. The only class she showed up for was world history, which Albert was in, and she never participated in school activities. She snuck out with her friends on weekends to drink copious amounts of liquor and do stupid, reckless thing. Although she lived in such a different world than Alberts, he wanted to be part of hers.
But that would ever happen. As much as Albert liked to dream his perfect world would be tipped upside down by Victoria it just couldn't occur.
But things did change one night. Albert was walking home from the library. He had books under one arm and was admiring the stars. He was fortunate to live in a quiet neighbourhood in the outskirts of London that was away from the hustle and bustle of the city. However, because it was so quiet it was the perfect place for unruly teens to hang out. He heard them before he saw them.
They were at a children's playground, Victoria and her friends. Their laughter echoed into the night and they each held a large bottle of spirits in their hands. Victoria was lying on the slide while a couple girls had taken residence on the swings and some boys sat on the seesaw. They looked effortlessly cool and free, something Albert could not experience.
He tried to cross to the other side of the street so they wouldn't notice him but it was too late. Victoria sat up and hollered at him suddenly.
"Oi Albert! Wanna drink?!" She yelled. Her friends snickered. Everyone knew Albert didn't drink at all out of principle. He flushed and kept walking. What he did not expect was for Victoria to get up and chase after him.
"Albert!" She exclaimed, catching up to him. He appearance in a mini skirt, tights and jumper made his throat go dry. Surprisingly there was no alcohol in her hand. "Why don't you come drink with us?" In fact, she didn't seen intoxicated at all.
Albert's brow wrinkled. "Why would you want to hang out with me?" He asked, genuinely confused.
A small smile played on Victoria's lips. "Just come have a drink it'll be nice. I want to get to know you better." His pulse quickened as she said so.
"Maybe not" he glanced at her unruly friends. "I don't really fit in with your crowd." Victoria considered his words, looking at her friends. Suddenly she called out.
"Oi you lot! Be back later I'm gonna walk this one home." She gave an airy wave to her disbelieving friends and linked arms with Albert. "So which ways home?"
Numb with shock, Albert pointed in the general direction and they set off. Victoria smelled like his mum's favourite flowers. She clung tightly to his arm.
"So uh what did you wanna talk about?" Albert ventured.
Victoria studied him. "You intrigue me Albert. Tell me about yourself."
"Well I'm German, I run the school newspaper, I love history..."
"No" Victoria cut him off. "Tell me stuff I don't know."
She knew those things about him? Tonight was certainly full of surprises. "Oh well I have an older brother Ernest who has left school, I love walking in forests and playing piano and my mum left when I was young." He stopped at that. Was this oversharing? He had barely talked to Victoria before now. But somehow he felt utterly comfortable.
"Mmm" Victoria said. "I'm sorry about your mother that must be hard. I don't know my dad but he passed away. Must be harder for you because you know your mother's still out there somewhere..." They walked in silence for a little while. Albert appreciated Victorias honesty...it was refreshing definitely. Everyone including his brother wanted to move on and forget but pretending never did anyone any good. They were rapidly approaching his house and he hoped Uncle Leopold wouldnt come out.
"Tell me more about your piano playing" Victoria prompted. "I play too - which composers do you like?"
"Chopin is pretty good...but my favourite is Mendelssohn by far."
"Same!" Victoria exclaimed with a laugh. "My we have a lot in common."
After some more idle conversation they reached his house. Albert paused at the letterbox. "This is me...thanks for escorting me home."
Victoria tilted her head to the side. "We will have to do it again sometime. Night Albert." She turned and walked off down the street. Albert watched her go before going inside to bed. His dreams were filled with her smile and laugh.
