Let It Be

The world could do without us,

     our lives, a daily crime,

exterminating a thousand species

     one act at a time.

Plastic in our water,

     corals bleached away,

another million tons of ice

     melt every single day.

Jungles cut for farmland,

     trees go up in smoke,

now that we can hardly breathe

     we find it’s not a joke.

Mercury in our bloodstream,

     oil upon the waves,

destroying that which feeds us

     leads us closer to our graves.

We found a way to profit

     from ocean, field, and tree,

but one thing we can’t seem to learn

     is just to let it be.
