Langue/parole, Necessary/contingent

This is just a placeholder for something I intend to write about the widespread division of architectural practice into two categories: necessary and natural structures that are dictated by the laws of physics, and contingent and cultural norms that come from tradition and professional enculturation.

To be discussed: positive and arbitrary beauty; natural and customary beauty; necessity and contingency. Laugier. George Baird's 1967 essay “'La Dimension Amoureuse' in Architecture”; Mies vs Corbusier as practitioners of langue-centric and parole-centric architecture, respectively. Lethaby describes, in turn, the works and approaches of the key British architects of the era, dividing them into two broad categories, ‘One group turns to imitation, style “effects”, paper designs and exhibition; the other founds on building, on materials and ways of workmanship, and proceeds by experiment. Different Approaches to Curating ? Potential research question shift ..

How can Pakistani artists in london redefine success in the arts?

When the intervention took place there were ideas and questions raised about some of the specifics…..

Where are the artists looking for recognition or success? Within white wall institutions? Would a guerilla marketing approach work as well for the artists? How can we define success? 

Looking at how some galleries function for example the Tate. One can see there is an agenda from the higher ups so far as the government who have their best interests served via shows they hand select. This means utilising a white wall institution as an avenue for Pakistani artists success is probably go9ing to be made difficult.

However calling Lethaby gallery at CSM a white wall institution is only fair to say if they selected shows based on the opposite prerequisites they do, as they explicitly state that they go the extra mile to support ethnic minorities and people with neurodivergence and disabilities. 

Which avenue is the most suitable? Making the most money is important to what degree? Is being seen in the art world and getting your name out there enough? Is there a specific “art world” we refer to or think of when we discuss it? Would it therefore be disappointing for the artists to have an exhibition without fancy doors to enter the space? people not making any money at all?

February 2024- Motivated Mama

At sessions it never fails to surprise us just how motivated and inspiring our Mamas are. Each session we see women who are living the real mum life, lacking in sleep and energy, redefining their identities as a Mama, juggling the many tasks and challenges and giving it their all!

We look around and feel so immensely proud of everyone there for making the effort. Everyone leaves feeling amazing as always!

Each month We would like to choose one of our Mamas who has stood out and motivated themselves and others and say "Well done Motivated Mama!"

This month we are giving a big whoop whoop to Beth Lethaby attending Sweaty Mama Stroud.

Every week, she is always first to arrive to class.

She takes the 🚌 every Tuesday 🌧🌞🥶.

It never stop her from attending her Sweaty Mama class every week.

Your MOTIVATION and FOCUS is our inspiration.

   “ WELCOME LADIES. ”    EILEEN SAID WITH a welcoming smile on her face. She was glad they had decided to come back to her establishment and had actually hired off one of the rooms meant for groups to come and enjoy themselves. It looked quite cozy, with the finest couches, a few beds around the room and an occupied bar near .
